Review Base. Bar - Norwood

Vegeterian pizzas are one of the best I have ever had in Australia. Simply outstanding!! We had plans to just have quick bite and leave. We ended up ordering the same pizzas thrice !!! Highly recommended.
Jeremy
Great feed! Sweet potato fries were perfect!

On Tuesday, lovely pizzas are all $16. It is nice to try all of them XD. Depend on where you seat, you might need self service, but I like to get my own plates and cutlery.

Been going for years, Tonight Pizzas are soggy, staff on their Mobile phones, no service. Might give the place a miss until someone actually tells the staff, people are paying for this ,and go across the road to the European.

Really good pizzas and great atmosphere

Menu is lacking some range and someone in there loves garlic abit to much.

Really good pizza. The kids have had the slider burgers. It's all good really I have not had a bad meal. The wood oven guys pump out pizza for the entire restaurant and go flat out. I have tried varying the toppings but it just doesn't translate so go with what is on the menu. The pepperoni pizza is just to die for. The so called 'hot' pizza is not hot so if you want it hot ask for the extra chilli. The beers in base always seem to be the ones that I don't want. To the Bath Hotels credit they have Heineken Zero on tap unlike the Hood that didn't have a single zero alcohol beer even in the bottle.

BASE is still a good place to relax over drinks but food has gone downhill. Pizza was soggy (despite asking for crusty base), bland, with hardly any toppings. Pork sliders were devoid of taste and chips were cold and oily. Sadly, nothing like the above average standards of past dining experiences here. Would happily have a drink here but not waste money on food.

Been a regular here for long time. Base Bar now shut but pizza still served from here. Very disappointing pizza, nothing like the usual standard. Soggy limp base, minimal ingredients and over salted. Bath Hotel always good, but won't have the pizza from Base for now!

Great location with parking and great pizza menu. They do special prices on Tuesday-from memory.
The pizza tastes authentic and crispy. The only downside is that it's a pub and the atmosphere is not always relaxed with people getting drunk and acting silly.

Base bar is great for pizza. The pizza is well priced (especially on Tuesday nights) and the portion sizes are decent. There are a range of different flavours and they yummy!! The chips are also delicious and go nicely with the pizza. The atmosphere is vibrant and comfortable and the staff are friendly.

Sorry guys the ambience at base is fabulous the staff are very good but the pizza was horrible. We have been to Base quite a lot for Friday night after work. Pizza has always been a. Bit hit and miss. But last night the Pizza it was as if the dough was not cooked but it was burnt. The topping was cubes of vegetables. The only thing that was ok was the basil sprinkled on top. This was our last visit to Base ever.

Base Bar on The Parade in Norwood has a cool vibe, good service and although the menu is not extensive, it serves tasty food. The pizzas are definitely a highlight and I love that they serve my favourite Dal Zotto prosecco. #basebar

Came here on my recent trip and in a street of cafes and eateries, the place didnt disappoint. Got the Mexican board to share. Only criticism is that there weren't enough tortilla. The food was amazing, so tasty and pretty cheap for a board big enough for 3!

Amazing Pizzas and cocktails, a great place to hang out with friends on a Friday night . Staff was friendly and the whole place had retro chilled vibes 👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing ambience, friendly service but wouldn’t say above & beyond. We ordered two pizzas & a side of sweet potato fries. Although the pizza tasted good, I must say I was truly disappointed about the amount of topping each pizza had. It was mostly bread & cheese, especially for the amount it costs. Apart from that, I enjoyed my time at The Base.

Have been here a few times now and can easily say this is one of my go-to places in Norwood now ! The pizzas are amazing, great selections of cheeses, antipasto platter is awesome and the sweet potato chips are to die for! Also love the wine list ! Definitely becoming a regular here

Best wood-fired Margherita pizza ever! Funky, chilled out place with quick service. Would definitely go back. We got chips, pizza and two drinks for $40. Not bad!

Average to nice bar at Norwood - basically an extension of the bath hotel. They have a beer garden in between the bar and the bath restaurant. Much thoughts put into the bar - hippy New York styles with brick tiles as their wall features. They don't take any reservations so first come first serve. Get there early or expect to wait as this bar can get pretty crowded during lunch and night time. Came here to try their Sunday special event paella for 2 and a jug of sangria for $45.
Services - there's some hit and miss with staffs. Some staffs are not attentive at all, couldn't be bother. One of the male staff that makes the sangria is quite friendly. Given the price they charge, I really don't think they should give their customers a buzzer. It's one of those where it buzz and you will have to go and collect your food. I think with that price they are charging, really they should serve it to the table. Same goes with drinks, you order at the counter and self served. So, the staffs are not really doing much really which I can't understand why they still look so inattentive.
Food - the paella was good but the serving was small and not much ingredients were put in there compare to the price we are paying. Paella was cook perfectly with chorizo, ham and small prawns. I would much prefer if its seafood paella with some mussels, big prawns and squid. We also try their pizza, prawn pizza with truffle oil and chilli. The pizza here is good, base is thin with crispy sides. Nice touch of truffle oil. Love it. Must try side dish - sweet potato chips with guacamole. The chips are crispy and not too salty. Surprising goes well with guacamole. Most places serve with aioli or Mayo.
Drinks - wide selection of beers, ciders, wine and sangria.
Nice place for friends to catch up. Nice bar for night time drinks at Norwood. Would recommend pizza and chips but not all the others with that price list.

Base bar has been a fave with my local work colleagues as we all work nearby. However instead of ordering the pizza I tried the Vietnamese coconut beef salad. The so called beef was basically deep fried blocks of fat. When I complained I was told -"well that's what's brisket is". Code "@&&? Off" "What deep fried fat blobs??!! "Great customer service. Avoid at all cost. Try Argos or Madame Wu's or the Robin Hood.

The hype has appeared to have died down at Base. I first came here about a year and a half ago and had an amazing serve of sliders and a dessert pizza (which has disappointingly been taken off the menu). On my most recent visit I tried a margherita pizza, cooked in the very impressive wood oven. After all that is what this bar is well known for. While the pizza was good I was a bit disappointed that there were only 5 different pizzas on the menu, not giving me much to choose from.

Base Bar is a subset of The Bath Hotel and is one of the trendiest restaurant and bars in Norwood. It’s contemporary New York decor is a feature with exposed ceilings, industrial lights, brick naked walls and open plan kitchen area. Grabbing a drink after work is not a problem with their strong wine list, beer and cider on tap, and an extensive collection of spirits and cocktails. In the past, their food menu had a lot of deep fried options but that has since changed with the release of their new menu. It’s now about fresh local ingredients with their true flavours brought out in the simplicity of the dishes. Adelaide Food Central was invited to sample some of the new offerings. All food and drink were provided free of charge.

Iv avoided this place for a while, due to its service reputations, but I put it behind me and I was pleasantly impressed.
Incredible tasting plate, pizzas and a large range of beverages left me full and satisfied.
The dukkah was ace, the olive dip delicious the salt n pepper squid was delicately coated.
It's exactly what I needed.
Look at the pic the tasting plate it actually was made to be exactly that offering generous servings of all that it featured.
It was norwood's fashion show and an outdoor pop up setting had been established so it really was a comfortable casual affair.

Heading out to one of my favourite bevvy places in Norwood, the Bath Hotel and Base Bar have never disappointed! I have had several meals here and all of them have been pretty good. A little bit hit miss at times, but more hits than misses! Sharing some pizzas with a few friends, we chose a selection of different toppings. The pizzas were well received and quite nice, but I have to say, they used to be much better. As nice as the pizzas were, they seem to lack some moisture, missing the essential squelch and burst in the mouth that should be there in every good pizza. Apart from that, Base Bar is awesome on a sunny Sunday afternoon with the band, some besties, great bevvies and good food! What more do you need!!
Eating Adelaide
Did a lunch session at Base Bar and was expecting good things after trying to get in once before and there being a 1-hour wait for a table (they don't take reservations!). So it's pretty much an extension of The Bath Hotel, and they've fitted it out really nicely which makes it seem like more of a place for a casual catch up.

We ordered a few different things to share as their menu seems to be made for sharing. The dough on the pizza's- prosciutto and bbq pork was fantastic, thin crusts and cooked in a wood oven so had that delicious flavour. My only qualm is that the toppings were quite oily, which seemed to be coming from the peperonata. We also had the confit duck crepes which were nice but a bit salty from the hoisin/soy/? dressing and the schezuan pepper squid which was beautifully fried and tender.

Service was a bit of a miss, when we arrived it wasn't too busy and food took about 45 minutes to arrive, without any small plates or cutlery. They got fairly busy later in the afternoon, so understandably it would have been hard for two bar staff to manage the floor. Would go back, but not in a hurry!

Dined at The Base Bar last night with a few friends after we decided on this venue due to its proximity to our workplace. First impressions when walking in was the amazing smell of the kitchen which was visible from the front door. We were greeted by a young friendly gentleman who provided us with a complimentary bowl of popcorn and placed tea light candles to add to the ambience of the venue. The cocktails were amazing. The Pina Colada was magnificent and they even made a mocktail not on the menu for our pregnant friend. Then the food came.... wow. Share plates and tasting boards provided variety for all of us. Some of the favorites were the hashtag fries with a chilli aioli which was sickly good and the pork crackling with a apple/pear dipping sauce. The sliders due to their convenient size were also a hit. The sticky ribs fell off the bone and cooked to perfection and the tasting board with home made dips was to die for. Definitely a place we will frequent again in the future.

Simple fails at simple meals. The staff recommended Pintxos, which ended up being 3 thin sliced of shriveled beef on overcooked thin sliced potato for 18 bucks. And it tasted crap. I am still hungry, but will just make a sandwich when I get home. Chips were average and the garlic aioli sauce didn't revive it.

Not coming back.

Base Bar. Awesome cocktails! The pizzas and tapas are fantastic as well as the specials that they serve up. Staff are very friendly and helpful! Definitely recommend!

Can't get enough. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and delicious pizzas and tapas makes Base an enjoyable night out.

Was good.... Until I found a dead moth in my salad......and the chef laughed when I took it back....and the on duty Manager didnt do a very good job with my feedback.....moth not the problem but Chef's attitude yes....

Have returned multiple times. Very busy and always happening! Food is extremely tasty, great atmosphere and always good service. Will continue to return.

Rude wait staff. Pizzas are excellent but Base needs to work on its customer service or at least who they employ; the young female wait staff rudely accused our table 'did you order gluten free?you have to order it' (well duh) when the wrong pizza was delivered. She then proceeded to make no sort of apology when it became clear that a mix up had occurred... Yes we know it's busy and it's loud but cut the sass

Really enjoyed all my food here. sizes are as you would expect for the price. the layout is a bit useless when the only entrance open is next the front bar, which is annoying when trying to order. But if you are into pizza and finger food this is a great stop!

Amazing Place; Shame About The Kids. Hi there...my fiancée and I just love Base. Great atmosphere, great cocktails and great food (wine list could be revamped). What I cannot understand is the proliferation of kids and it is on the rise (And this comes from someone with three kids of my own). There seems to be a kids birthday party on the night I write this. A third of the clientele tonight are minors (22 ATM); impacting on the atmosphere and more importantly for Base, their profit margins. Not sure what can be done...
But we still love it anyway!

Really impressed. First visit to this place last night, and won't be the last. Loved the decor, cool deep house /garage music, and the food was delicious. Had the chicken pizza, arancini and lamb, all were excellent. Can't wait to come back and try what else is on offer.

Best pizza. Soooo good!!!

I went here with a group of friends on a Saturday night. On arrival I had high expectations as I had been told good things. The decor was funky and we arrived early so didn't have a problem finding a table. The service was a bit strange to say the least, we weren't greeted and when we asked about tables we were told 'sit wherever'. We ignored this and ordered drinks as well as food. Nearly an hour later the food arrives and It was an underwhelming dining experience to say the least.. The lamb was disgusting and full of fat and not much else. The aranchini balls were completely bland and like giant balls of stodge. The Vego sliders also bland and the chicken sliders were like a mini glorified KFC burger but not even as tasty... The chicken wings were good, the salads were not bad but overall not somewhere where I would be returning for food.. Decent prices or not it's all about the flavour! The waiter we had was great though and when we sent something back he delt with it really well and was awesome in resolving the problem.. Overall I would suggest going to base with friends for drinks not for the food.

I went there recently to celebrate my birthday with 12 people on a Sunday afternoon. Bookings are not accepted and was told over the phone that there are plenty of large tables, so you will be okay. When we got there, all the larger tables for big groups were occupied with two or three people, yet the smaller tables vacant. It made it really difficult to dine in the venue and staff weren’t interested in assisting our group with a suitable table location. We all thought that the food was wonderful but the service as average. I would suggest this place only if you have a smaller group, 2-6 people max.

Had lunch with friends and ordered 4 different pizzas. All were absolutely delicious. Will be going back.

Cool little place!. LOVE Base Bar! Hard to get a table - yes, but worth the wait. Staff are friendly and the food is very tasty, bit expensive (portion sizes aren't that great for how much you pay) but still very, very good.
Victoria
Great atmosphere, great food, and great espresso martinis! bases were a bit tough though.
Laura
Cool little place with great selection of food and drinks. Went on a Wednesday night so wasn't too busy. Service was pleasant and food was delicious. Would go again to try more of the menu!

Burnt!. Love the Bath beer garden and was delighted to find a new wood oven pizza bar adjoined. The decor is great and service friendly. Should be a great addition to a fabulous spot. Unfortunately the pizza was terrible! We ordered the potato pizza and the margarita. Both bases were burnt and totally under seasoned. The only flavour was of burnt dough. The margarita was the worst with no taste of herbs and floury tomatoes. Such a shame that the food is letting this place down. Will stick to the menu from The Bath kitchen on my next visit.

Overheard 'worst meal ever' as we sat down!!! ......but feeling hopeful we ordered. .......had some lukewarm gnocchi delivered & so asked nicely to have it warmed.... Waited & waited!!!! ... seems it was up to me to go back to collect the replacement dish!! ... My fault it was lukewarm AGAIN. ??? Won't be going back!!! Very rude service!

Excellent. My friend and I had lunch at base today and loved it. We ordered the pork belly, szechuan chicken and gnocchi. My friend had the pork and said it was amazing, the chicken was perfectly crispy and flavoursome, but the home made gnocchi (which are house made) were my favourite. The interior is nicely styled and comfortable. We will definitely be back again!

What's with the buzzer to collect your food? Feels cheap..
Pricey for what it is.
Just head to melt instead.
Not convinced they know what they're doing.
Lilly
That's why they call it Base because that's all you get! Not only is it not possible to book a table but what is with the crap "self service" set up yet the prices on the menu are clearly table service prices! Three slider burgers for $16 the size of a peanut! Really?! The pizzas are below average with pre-made pizza bases and anemic toppings what a joke. If you are going to base your business on the pizza at least learn to make a decent one or get an Italian pizza maker who actually knows what they are doing! Another typical Adelaide try hard set up where people are stupid enough to pay top dollar for crap. Thumbs down.
Stuballs
Dishonest pizza sizes. I asked what size their pizzas are, their answer was 'all 12 inches.' I ordered a take away and it was just under 9 inches in diameter. This is becoming common and unethical. A classic example of business ripping off customers. Not a great start by a new business, concerned too much about money and not about the customer.

Good but not amazing. I had low expectations for Base, given it's owned by the same owners of the bath, who has to have the worst pub food in adelaide, but i had a nice meal at Base, despite the staff being absolutely clueless. The arancini balls were the only thing I didn't particularly enjoy. The pizzas are
Slightly frugal on toppings, the chicken had about 5 pieces of chicken on it which wasn't really acceptable. I would go back, good but not great.

Just had lunch at base. Really loved it pork sliders followed by mini donuts with citrus and chocolate dipping sauces. Great atmosphere, will be back.

Fabulous,Fun and Modern. Base is a fun and modern place to sip cocktails, have a pizza or tapas-style tasters with friends. In the heart of the Eastern suburbs it has a vibe that Adelaide has been craving for some time. A mix of industrial chic and warehouse warmth would best describe the interiors. We've had repeated trips back to Base and have enjoyed our experience every time.

One word, WOW. This place is what the Parade has been missing. Great food, Great setting, the Open kitchen allowed us to watch our food being prepared and the chef although busy explained each component of the dishes we ordered. The bar tender a very friendly Irish man prepared us some extravagant cocktails and explained what he was putting in them as he made them in front of us, a nice personal touch. Two thumbs up. Have found my new local.

New York comes to Adelaide. This place is ĂĽber cool, the food is pizza and tapas style. The only problem was how to choose what to eat. The food was great and when accompanied by colorful cocktails life couldn't get better. The decor is groovy, very New York, SoHo. Go just to see the lights, particularly the vintage operating theatre light. Have already been three times !!!!!
Alex
Decent enough but not excellent. Don't go here expecting a restaurant meal. Go here if you've caught up with your friends for a drink and feel like having some tucker. You can't book, which I accept given the new arrogant trend of new restaurants believing it to be reasonable to have its customers wait. If you rock up and it's full, be prepared to feel silly standing in the middle of the place waiting for a table because you'll have to pick the next free table quick smart, before you lose it to someone else. That's correct, there is no queue, there's no waiters to write your name down to give you the next available table. The customer service is certainly forgettable - they don't help in the slightest trying to get you a table and you have to up and pay. Won't be going back.
Adelaidegirl
Mostly good. I decided to try Base Bar after coming across some Facebook posts that had been posted by The Bath Hotel - basically, it's an extension of The Bath, but with a different vibe.

We went on a Friday night and found it was super-busy. The beer garden (which connects Base Bar and The Bath) was packed, which added a bit of atmosphere. My friends and I sat inside, but had to wait for around half an hour for a table to be free. It's a pretty casual sort of set-up in that respect. Don't expect a restaurant-type meal - go to The Bath restaurant for that. There are only around 6-7 tables inside Base's main area, so if you decide to go on a Friday or Saturday night, book a table in advance! The ordering system is fairly casual too - just head up to the bar and place your order. Personally, I feel like the attitude of the bar staff could have been a bit better. I understand that they were very busy (I'm sure that the owners will recognise the need to hire more staff at busy times) but it would have been nice to have some eye contact and a smile. After ordering and paying, they'll give you a timed buzzer (similar to what they give you at Cibo) so you can collect your meal when it's ready. We had to wait for about 20-30 minutes for our order (2 pizzas, which came after around 20 minutes, and a serve of 4 arancini balls and some crispy chicken, which was ready after another 10 minutes).

The food itself was pretty good. The ingredients seemed very fresh and not a scrap of food was left by the time we were finished. We actually went back and ordered a bowl of "chili fries" (which seemed more like chips instead of the thin fries), which were filling and nice and crispy (the way I like). As for value for money - it was ok. No more expensive than other similar places like the Grace Establishment further west down The Parade.

The cocktails they were making looked amazing. Didn't have a chance to try them this time, but I'll definitely be back to try them soon.

Overall, a good experience. I'd go back, but hope to see better service on my return. Go for the atmosphere and the trendy setting.

With a big wood oven, it’s no surprise that pizzas are on offer at this place. They also have a selection of tapas dishes as well as a few sliders and desserts.

Base Bar continues to impress, and is the perfect destination for dinner on a warm summer evening, with a really relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it for the great food and cocktails, which I didn't have this time round but really enjoyed the first time I visited.

After spying a hip and new modern bar down The Parade next door to The Bath (an extension of The Bath), I instantly told the stranger that a visit had to be on the cards. The 200 year old Egyptian doors opened up to a dark urban industrial space with an open kitchen fitted with a huge wood oven, open face brick walls, tiled benches and tiled tables, exposed ceiling with hanging industrial lights, a mixture of wood, metal and ceramic fittings and a black wall of wine shelf displays towards the back of the venue. A beer garden sat between both Base Bar and The Bath Hotel connecting the two together. Base is targeted towards a younger crowd with offerings of cocktails, craft beers, wood oven pizzas and tapas. Menu shot, interior, wood oven We claimed our spot inside the venue and took our time going through the menu. Wood fire roasted pork belly with remesco sauce; $12.00 , handmade gnocchi, pumpkin puree, sage, rocket and pine nuts; $14.00 , crispy Schezuan chicken with garlic aioli and
