Review Station Street Cafe - Nunawading

Food: perfect ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Service: perfect Value: perfect Venue: adorable Location: perfect for me Music volume: low, which is perfect 🤩 I would have lunch here every single day. The gnocchi with slow cooked beef is not just a dish - it’s a culinary experience. The chef nailed it! Chicken Parma is also delicious with an amazing mayo. Coffee is great!
chinupguy
The beef burger and the chicken nuggets with chips are nice and portion is good enough after going to the climbing gym nearby.
Mary Bsr
Delicious vegan/non vegan food. The staff were polite and friendly.

Yummy food run by a great bunch of people
Vincent
Friendly staff and nice food. Have had breakfast and lunch here a few times. Really enjoyed the crispy Chicken burger.

Very quick service, friendly staff and a calm, relaxing environment. A fair amount of options to choose from but nothing out of the ordinary. A great overall place!

Station St Cafe 3.7 Cute cafe right beside the station as the name suggests. Surprisingly large and not unpleasantly decorated with occasional splashed of greenery. Good music playing. Overall, there’s a good relaxed feel here. Quick stop only today as I was time poor. The coffee here was ace. Rich, silky and powerful. Just as I like it. A good tasty reasonably priced egg, cheese and bacon muffin was had as well. Service was friendly and cheerful. On what I saw today, I’m not surprised this cafe is well regarded.

Very good coffee, plus breakfast was delicious with lots of attention to detail. Generous serve too

Food was very average (frozen hashbrowns, really? They are not hard to make). Exceedingly inattentive staff, greasy finger marks all over the plate that my food was served on, and the most horrible attempt at making chai that I have ever encountered. Honestly, throwing a spoonful of chai blend into a teapot of boiling water is the equivalent of using instant coffee in a latte - don't do it. Make the effort to learn how to do it properly. Won't be back.

Fantastic cafe with a great vibe. Food was spot on, staff were lovely. Will definitely be back

Like this place and they are vegetarian friendly. Many places offer 1 or 2 veg options but they have a few for me to choose from. They are also generous with their serve. Coffee is good too.

Love the coffee here, great service and very friendly. And the answer to your riddle is 0 none as they live in opposite directions north and south, see you again soon 😃

Station street Cafe is perfectly situated within walking distance from the Station, the staff are friendly, the service is excellent, food is delicious and prices are reasonable!

Great coffee, good food and friendly staff! Favourite place to go on a Monday morning for breaky.

Quaint hip vibe - welcoming - delicious well presented food - great coffee. MAGIC FIND!!

I think they've changed hands. Not as good as it used to be. Coffee was average. Service was impossibly slow.
Rachel Adelholm
Amazing! Food was so yummy! Service was fast! Will definitely be a regular!!

31 minutes for a slice of fruit toast, after being the second customer in the door on a week day - even after enquiring as the whereabouts of the toast after 15 minutes. A request for a second coffee also went unanswered. But the best part was the girl at the counter saying I was being unreasonable. Fortunately, there are plenty of other great coffee shops around Blackburn and Nunawading who respect their customers. Highly recommend The Peddler just down the road.
Helena Sims
Loved the food, generous servings and great service

Good food good service and became very busy very quickly!
Tracey Roy
Great coffee, best in Nunawading..don't walk pass.
Peter Karaoglanis
Great service, always consistently good lattes across all baristas. The food menu is focused and of the highest standard always. I always bring clients who are blown away by the Collins street standard in the eastern suburbs. #highlyreccomended

Thanks for dinner tonight! Had the nachos and meatballs. Delish! Glad Friday nights are back. Love a good local. Thanks boys.

Takes me 1 hour to eat here and that is 1 hour waiting for the food. Coffee comes 55mins before the food. Just dont come here. Alot of better choices. Would give 0 stars if i could.

Used to be a fantastic place for brunch and coffee. Went in after a long while and it looks like it has changed hands and the quality of food and drinks is not the best. Disappointed ☹️

We had the big breakfast and breakfast ‘baos’ both which were not fresh and kinda tasted like they were cooked a few days ago and then re heated.

Place is also not that clean and my teapot even having old dust around the handles showing they just rinse.

I felt queasy afterwards.

Use to be good but no more.

Lovely cafe with good vibes, great food and friendly staff.
I really loved the coconut porridge generously topped with fruit, yogurt ,nuts ,seeds etc. Fantastic and unique combo.
I also recommend the Egg Benedict . The bacon was so crisp and topped with heaps of mayo.
Besides the savory dishes, I am also loving their sweet roll and almond croissant. So tasty and rich in flavor!
I will definitely come back to try more!

Very lovely cafe. I don’t think there’s another cafe as good as this one in the area so definitely worth coming to have a try if you’re in the area.

The new head chef has added everything this cafe was missing. Food is amazing, and the menu is always being updated with new and yummy things!!

Amazing amazing Cafe, my fiance and I were so impressed.
They were so busy but we went in and found a table and a waiter saw us straight away and took our order.
We had the cheeseburger and the mushroom and haloumi burger, both were seasoned beautifuly and the flavour was brilliant.
The coffee's were really lovely as well.
The highlight was the spiced apple and chocolate muffin. What. A. Muffin. Such a winner.
Highly recommend.

On a rainy day, with a hangover and in desperate need of a feed we came across Station Street Cafe. It was very quiet with basic decor so I wasn't expecting too much! Turns out my expectations were beyond exceeded! Both our meals came out quick, hot, and cooked to perfection! I highly suggest giving this place a shot if you're in the area!

We came into Station Street Cafe just after 9am for a quick bite before heading out for a the day. The place had a relaxed feel to it with a few plants in terrariums in the front window. Other zones down the side and back were decorated with a selection of art and photos that appeared to be for sale. They had a riddle of the day up on the blackboard which was a nice touch. There was also a cake cabinet with some delicious looking slices. There was already a small queue forming for take away coffee so we grabbed a menu and a table and waiting staff soon came to take our drinks order. I ordered a strong coffee which came out pretty acceptable at strong but I think it needed the extra shot I asked for. I also ordered corn fritters with bacon, poached eggs, beetroot chutney and corn salsa. This came out to us in under 5 minutes. The combination of corn and beetroot chutney is something I would definitely try again. Overall the menu wasn't super extensive but had a good mix of sweet and savoury and a couple of healthy options for people other than myself. A well run cafe with responsive staff. Honourable mention to the smallest room which was super clean.

An established spacious outlet conveniently located by a stretch of shophouses on Station St off Springvale Rd with some angled and street side parking. Simple interior urban fit out, the cafe was relaxed and well spaced. They have lounge, communal and table seatings so can cater to different needs.

Needed a place nearby to enjoy my coffee. Moreover, I was surprised that there was a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on my French toast which was very tasty! Price was above average but reasonable for decent servings.

Staff were also efficient, friendly and polite. An easy going place to hangout if you're in the area.

Noted they offer alcohol too!

🌟🌟🌟🌟French Toast
🌟🌟🌟🌟Long Black

Fantastic quality food, great range for selection, extremely friendly service. The interior design of the cafe was quite pleasant. The strawberry milkshake was definetley my favourite.

As part of my lifelong search for the perfect brunch, I set out to try Station Street Café on a Sunday mid-morning with my brunch buddy, Tash. Hmm…this was one of my lesser researched, random picks and it was not the best call. I’m going to get straight to it. The coffee was okay (nothing special at all), and the service was strange. We had the most forgetful waiter ever. He had to come back twice to confirm coffee orders, and then forgot some sides that my friend ordered with her breakfast. It was weird.

Long standing cafe in Nunawading ......

It has been challenged by a few contenders, however still the leader of pack in that enclave.

Coffee and Menu is above average.

It's a bit of a drive but I was intrigued by the high reviews so went there for lunch. Nice casual cafe opposite the station, friendly service and varied menu. I went for the Rueben sandwich which was very tasty and the chips were chunky and cooked very well. The prices are on the premium side but you definitely get the quality that you'd expect. Only complaint was I wish there was another half a kilo of that yummy corned beef but that's just me being greedy. Highly recommended for a nice lunch and I will be back soon to try the other options.
David Food Leasing
DO: The Rueben with fries and eggs Benny, always a favourite and hits the spot every time.

DON'T: Forget the great coffees to go before and after your meal.

TIP: Gets busy as do most cafes, so be prepared to wait.

Loved my salad - coconut, chicken & prawn.
Young staff, friendly and attentive.
Good atmosphere, good background music.
My partner enjoyed his beef salad.

Pretty awesome! The lamb burger was rich in flavour with a soft fluffy brioche bun accompanied by sweet potato chips 😍 I wouldn't say the nourish salad was mind blowing but it was nice enough but a little over priced
Patrick
I've been here plenty of times as it's one of my locals. Without fail, what brings me back is the eggs benedict. I love my Hollandaise sauce and Station St always nails it and it's always a generous serve. The only thing I can fault is they change the bread quite regularly and the thickness varies quite a bit. The coffee is ok, It's not as good as other cafe's in the area (two brothers, fingers crossed, Hey Mikey, Peddler). The staff are always friendly but at times it can take a while to get served.
Helen Lai
This is a regular for my husband and I. They have casual couches that you can sit at and read the paper over a coffee. But sitting down for brunch or lunch is a must. Modern menu with familiar ingredients, created in to innovative dishes. Great cafe!
Alex
Staffs of the restaurant were really bad. They are not professional! The meal was cold, tasteless and served in a plate with poor hygienics. Please don't offer rubbish and bad service anymore.

I'll start by saying that this is the third time I have visited the cafe. First two were good. Food and service was a 4 out of 5.

Unfortunately this time was VERY bad.
1. Food took too long to come out.
2. Poached eggs were way too over cooked. No yolk ran when cut.
3. The smashed avocado had no chilli on it and they didn't provide the gluten free bread ordered or the extra egg. It took a long time to get chilli after it was requested.
4. A steak sandwich came with gluten free bread when it wasn't ordered.
5. Another steak sandwich came with extra egg when it was ordered for the smashed avocado.
6. Did I mention the poached eggs were way over cooked?

One problem in itself is excusable. However, all the issues we had is just disappointing. To top it all off, they charged us for their mistake of putting gluten free bread on a steak sandwich and for extra egg we didn't order on another steak sandwich. My friend mistakenly paid for this.

Unfortunately, this experience has turned me off the place and I will not be going back.
Has the chefs and owners changed recently? Something must have happened.

With the rain outside, it was instantly welcoming entering this cafe, with the selection of comfy seats at the front. Along the side and toward the back there are tables for those, like us, who are looking for more than just a quick cuppa, but the front space would be lovely for someone and their book/laptop or a couple of friends grabbing a coffee.

The menu selection is satisfactory, not a huge range, but most people could find something they like. Today the special soup was potato and leek, and I probably should have gone with that. I was curious about the pork in the Vietnamese Pork and Prawn Salad. I enjoy pork as long as it's female, but unfortunately the waitress wasn't sure if it was, so I erred on the side of caution (been caught before). Child number one was feeling unadventurous so went with the Beer Battered Chips - that was a very good choice, they were genuine planks of potato, super crispy, with a lovely rosemary herb salt and a good aoli. Child number two selected the Pulled Pork Burger - he's not bothered about the gender of his pork (yet), and he was very pleased with his selection. There was a lovely spice blend to the pork, sweet spices like a mixed spice blend or Chinese five-spice perhaps. Child number three chose the Kid's Egg on Toast, which stated on the menu 'Thin cut on toast' which I mistakenly assumed meant thin toast. Not sure what 'thin cut' referred to, but he got sourdough, which he can't handle right now thanks to wobbly teeth. His scrambled eggs were relatively creamy if a little over done for my preference - he liked them. The Speedy Gonzales was almost a huge hit. It's very filling having lots of the 'red rice' and some chicken, but unfortunately the avocado had been heated so long it'd gone a little bitter. The fennel slaw was quite good if on the verge of being too astringent.

It's lovely that there are small milkshakes, that really are small, so as not to overfill little tummies, my kids enjoyed a vanilla version as well as a chocolate one. The kids also enjoyed nutting out the puzzle on the wall and Child number one was most proud to work out the answer (second time around) and was rewarded for her efforts.

Stuff are mostly attentive, replacing our water bottle when it ran out, and friendly, never intrusive.

Nice local cafe.

A very relaxed atmosphere. Just next to Nunawading staton. There arent much cafe nearby making it a great place to hangout locally. Newspaper, riddles, books, great cafe for brunch.

I made a bit of a mistake ordering the Station Street Rosti. Not because it didn't taste nice, it was actually really nice. It just wasn't filling and I was starving! As I I said though it was a really nice meal and combined some really cool flavours. Cappuccino was pretty spot on too.
The Whippeteers
Epic Latte, strong but not burnt/bitter. Luscious milk.

Comfortable/relaxed venue. Interesting stuff inside: books, riddles etc.

Feel like going back for a brunch date, hopefully soon!
Philby Ruready
Today ordered a soy cappuccino in a mug and Walnut Slice. Service was slow they almost forgot about our coffee until we asked. The slice was average nothing to write home about. The decor and paintings on the wall add a nice touch and the only reason I'm bumping up my rating.
First impressions were good, with spacious cafe space and decorated with lots of succulents and photos. Food was inexpensive however you get what you pay for, it was nothing to rave about - no amazing flavour combinations or amazing wow. French toasts berry compote consisted of 3 berries with no sauce (however waitress fixed this swiftly once she was notified), lemon curd served on top of the toast was too over powering, but the French toast it's self was cooked nicely. Partner got the b.l.a.t which he throughly enjoyed as well as the chips it was served with.
Coffees again were average, looking a lot better then they tasted.
Blueberrypie
A warm little cafe hidden near the station with an inviting environment. Alright coffee and sweet foods at reasonable prices. The hot food looks good and would like to give it a try. Excellent customer service! Haven't come across this old school service in a very long time.

Today I woke up excited as I was going to try a cafe in Blackburn that I had not visited before. Sadly my heart sank as it was closed so Hubstar and I decided to try Station st cafe in Nunawading. Suitably named as the cafe is right near Nunawading station so you can just hop off and enjoy some food!

Came here for a coffee and a bite today because of its convenient location next to Nunawading station. First impression was the place was spacious and clean, we sat on the comfortable couches. The service was alright - the waiters did their job and were not rude, but they weren't particularly friendly and some of them looked like they didn't want to be there. One waitress was attentive and regularly brought us water when our bottle was finished. The coffee was okay - I'd give it 6-7/10, there wasn't quite enough froth and it wasn't quite sweet enough for me. The muffin didn't look like a cafe-standard but tasted fine. The beer battered chips were good - they were herbed, mostly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I would've liked to have a choice of aioli or tomato sauce - I think paying $8 for chips we shouldn't have had to pay extra if we wanted aioli. Tomato sauce didn't go quite as well with the chips. Overall it was a decent experience but I probably won't be back.

Came here the other day for breakfast. Had the veggie breakfast, and my gf had the bacon and eggs. While both were ok it was certainly nothing to crow about. Seevice was good, but prices were too expensive for an average surburan cafe.
AK
The atmosphere is quite kooky and relaxed but unfortunately, service was lacking today! None of the waiters noticed us when we sat down so we had to go up to the counter and ask for menus and water. After we received our meals, the waiter took our empty water but didn't return a full bottle so we had to ask for another. Ordered the pulled pork burger which was quite delicious but maybe make it a little less moist? My bun was quite soggy. Also the top bun was slightly burned on the edge. Overall, the food was good but service needed to be picked up today.

Difficult to fault this cafe as it does so much right. What ever I order I make sure I always get a side of hash browns. Golden, crispy and thick the hash browns are a non-negotiable for me.

Food and coffee here is awesome it's a great little cafe that I stumbled upon and ill definitely be back to try some more of it!! Great service and quite quick to get a meal
Good Food = Happy Mood
If you want to have the best porridge ever this is the place to go to...good coffee, food and service...never disappointed when we come here
Dcowburn0
Great little cafe, I ordered a veggie burger and it was delicious. It had grilled saganiki, smashed avo, field mushrooms and relish - It came with a side of crispy fries - yum! They also have freshly squeezed orange & apple juice! Very affordable

Been here a handful of times. Food is good, got the big breakfast this time around which was indeed big but hasbrowns and chorizo were a bit bland. Good amount of bacon though.
The place can get a bit loud when busy so be aware if you want a place to chat and catchup if you don't want to get into a shouting contest. Staff are friendly though, a good choice for brunch and lunch (they have their liquor licence too, so a few cheeky beers or wines can be on the agenda as well!)
Eastina Zhang
Ambience is nice in this cafe, but coffee was pretty flat and average.. Got the breakfast wrap and the BBQ sauce made it WAY too sweet, had to add a fair amount of salt to it.

The terrariums and seats are pretty cute though
Gastronomous
Been here a few times. Their coffee is fantastic so is their food. Loved the braised lamb salad. Would loved some more variety though. I will go back again for sure.

Best coffee in Melbourne. Great ambience too. Haven't tried a meal yet, but will soon, if you are going out for a coffee, it's highly recommended.
For the last two years, I have come to this cafe religiously and I absolutely adored it. They have created a menu that really understands everyones preferences with an extensive selection that caters for everyone at a very affordable rate. It's a quiet cafe, that is very casual and clean. The staff are also very attentive, well presented, friendly and most importantly, they always make an effort to make you feel welcomed and they listen when you order. I have visited this cafe more than I'd say 25 times and I have never received a bad or the wrong meal. However, I am really missing their garlic/balsamic tomatoes :(

What an absolutely beautiful weather it was today and thank God for it because I had to perform at an outdoor festival today! It was the Whitehorse Annual Spring Festival and I offered to play guitar and sing in the youth section.

...decided on the Lentil Burger ($16.00) with zucchini, aubergine, peppers, turmeric, yoghurt, and onion rings. This was tasty except the couple of onion rings placed above my burger were made with the very outer layer of the onion. You know the stuff that you are meant to throw away...
The World Loves Melbourne
Is this Melbourne's best steak sandwich? Gourmet perfection! You get a generous piece of quality steak cooked wonderfully and still juicy, with great combination of quality bread (which is important), that great bacon again, mushrooms, tomato, lettuce, a great chutney, an awesome mayo - served with shoestring fries...
Hold The Peas
The beans were bland and lukewarm. J did go traditional with the eggs and bacon on sourdough, but he also ordered a side of mushrooms and a side of the spiced beans. He didn't like the mushrooms, the bacon was soggy and the bread too thick. He agreed with me about the beans. The only good part about his breakfast was the eggs. I like thick bread so didn't agree with him on that point, though mine could have used some extra time in the toaster. A very disappointing breakfast and I doubt we would go back.

Just had a really fantastic breakfast, coffee was spot-on, best corn fritters I've ever had! Service friendly and quick. Highly recommended.

Stand out for Nunawading; ok coffee and service. Friendly service and ok coffee, worth a visit if in the area.

Served food that can't be eaten. Wow! just ordered breakfast that was served so hot that it caused me a blister in my month and I could not even eat after 10 minutes. When I advised the waitress and chef I was offered the option of taking away to eat it later when it was cooler or to mix cold water with it. When I advised that given the meal had caused me to have blisters in my mouth that I didn't want to eat the meal. I was told that regardless as there was nothing 'wrong' with the food that I would have to pay for this. Can’t believe that serving a meal that can’t be eaten with 10 minutes of being served is considered ok and that there is nothing wrong with the situation.
Brucej
Loved it. Called in for a quick coffee and cookie ( great homemade ) was served quickly and coffee is great , will try out dinner next time

Go to Mitcham instead.... Had breakfast here this morning. It was underwhelming and overpriced. For almost 30 dollars for two simple breakfasts (no coffee) it is just not worth it. A very disappointing start to the day! The cafés in Mitcham are much better value for money !
Youwish
FANTASTIC. The staff here are absolutely fantastic!
It really shows that they care for every single person who walks into their store! So inviting and great coffee!

keep up the good work!

Chai latte is increditably sweet! Will never order it again.
Jojo
Not bad. Inexpensive, but don't have special food i want to come for again
Barry
Friendly service, nice hot coffee, no wait. However, egg Atlantic had a sinking feeling as was rather small yet the eggs were not free ranges that light yellow colour is a give away. The ham and corn fritters were tasty but on the small side. Overall satisfied but unlikely to return as better in the area towards mitcham
David
Got there at 2:20, seated and asked for coffee.....waited for menus then at 2:40 went up to ask for the menu to find the kitchen closes at 2:30 on a Sunday. Coffee finally arrived at 2:50..... Not the best experience from a normally reliable venue
Shasha
Doing it right!. Been here 3 times now for breakfast and it's always been delicious. Bacon is crispy, tea is good, all the veggies seem fresh, the toast is cut super thick, and the servings are generous. The best thing is that you can read a book and take your time over your breakfast without feeling like they're trying to rush you out the door, like with some of the more inner suburb cafes. Will be back (again and again!)
William K
What happened to the coffee? Used to be good. Today it's no different than the coffee from McDonald.

Two plus baby for breakfast: Very pleasant. Walked in off the street not knowing much and not living in the area.

I had the big breakfast, my wife had the smashed avo+feta. Coffees were very nice, nothing too spectacular but weren't burnt (pet peeve) or bitter at all.

Food was really good. Big breakfast very generous for $20. A lot of Big Breakfasts are oily or covered in butter, but not here. But top marks are reserved for the smashed avo+feta meal. Delicious. It actually had a bit of a spice 'kick' to it. I'm sure if we hated spicy food this would have annoyed us (as it's not mentioned on the menu) but we loved it. Tasty.

Service was prompt and friendly. Baby friendly (although a change table in the toilets wouldn't go astray).
Claireh
Used to be great but after it changed gands it all went down himm. Waitresses are un pleasent food takes ages to cone and they screw up my order often
ZomatoM
Nice atmosphere on entering. First visit. Slow dim service, food took ages. Waitress seemed not to care. also mucked up one order too. Just a bad first visit? First impressions count. Not going back
Mark_helen
My favourite place. I have been coming here for lunch or a late breakfast here for over two years. It's my favourite local cafe. The coffee is always good and the service is exceptionally friendly. Their egg and bacon foccacio thing is to die for. Great risotto and pasta also.
You know a place is good when it's full of locals who keep coming back!
Roy
Good, but not great Coffee,.... Good, but not great
Coffee, while nice, needed to be hotter
Orange juice, at $6.50 a glass, was delicious, but pricey
Had the homemade baked beans, & the eggs hollandaise. Again while nice, they were a bit bland, & no butter offered with the toast
While the venue is a bit noisy, service was spot on
Price for four of us was $90
Jess
Good coffee & eggs. We've visited a few times now. Each time has delivered good service, great coffee and amazing scrambled eggs. It can get really busy, so it's pot luck where you get seated.

We will be back.....
QT
I've no idea what happened to the new menu, it seems they no longer use butter in their cooking, but instead use old and stinky oil. We went there for breakfast and ordered eggs Benedict and pancakes with extras, which we both later suffered from bad stomach ache and head ache a few hours later...
Holtmarcia1
Looked ok on arrival. Menus brought to table but no drinks menu.
Ordered meals. Food arrived very quickly. Poached egg was just that, nothing fancy, plonked atop of a wedge of unbuttered slough dough. Bacon was a curled up pre cooked ball that had obviously been keeping the grilled tomato company in the warming drawer until required. Who in their right mind pastes crushed garlic on to grilled tomato before serving. Is this to hide the drying film appearing on the flesh? Honestly it was a lazily slapped together brunch. Not good enough to warrant a return visit. Coffee was ok though.

Retribution? Sad face. When.... Retribution? Sad face.
When first relocating to the area I was disappointed in the repetitious menus, decor, solemn sully faced, over worked under paid wait staff. Lacking passion and stuck somewhere between tuck shop and cafe. Reveal station st in all its pollished floor glory, bent wood, chalk board urbane style. Chucks and chinos everywhere and me not caring bout the slacker hipster style cos my coffee came, was drank and enjoyed. This fond memory now is but that, no recollections mirror the present.
So it begins...
Do not mop or sweep or count your till as I pay my $100 on a relaxed commemorative evening(my anniversary). Do not traffic stock whilst i savour my white bait (delicious) or clean the loo as delightfully delicate vanilla cream and flaked pastry pass over my lips. Do not ruin my evening by making me feel a burden on your Friday night. Management check your hospitality qualifications cos I fear they may need a revisit. You have all the fixtures for a great place but I dare say dinners may be done n dusted as of next week not forthe food or hard working and
pleasant Staff but for the obvious lack in customer courtesy.
Ally
Good atmosphere, easy enough to get a table for Sunday morning brunch. The prices were pretty standard though mine was almost on the small side - I had the scrambled egg with dukkah, avocado and goats curd and added chorizo. I'm glad I added that as I would have still been peckish afterwards! Friends had the Spanish Inquisition which they loved and an egg and bacon focaccia. All in all fresh food, good flavours and pleasant staff.

Went for lunch today at 12.30. Was seated and handed a menu. No breakfast after 12 noon. Sat for at least 15 mins waiting for order to be taken waited waited waited...... We then left hungry. The girl on the floor washed dishes chatting to the barrister looked at our table a couple of times and still ignored us.
Really bad service. Would never go again
Halfcastfoodie
Went there for lunch. Was hoping they had the breakfast menu as most places offer it all the way through lunch. But I'm glad I chose something from the lunch menu. I ordered the pork belly risotto. It came quite quickly which was a suprise considering it was busy. The pork belly was tender and cooked perfectly and the tartness of the risotto made the pork feel less fatty. Really nice joint and ill be looking forward to coming on a Friday night for the live music and bar.

Good Food - Great Service. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with this place, it was buzzing on Friday night, with some live Jazz, and every table full. Our group of 9 selected 3 servings of 3 different tapas (9 in total) and 2 gourmet Pizza’s. Tapas range from $6 to $10, and the Pizza’s from $11 to $14.

Food wise, everything was top quality. We chose: “Pan fried saganaki Ouzo inferno” (a bit salty, but it always is), “Capponatta bruschetta w warm olives & anchovies” (Fantastic), but the standout was the “Pork and almond Arancini w orange tarragon beurre blanc sauce” (Absolute perfection !!! – The centers were rich and creamy, and the crumbs beautifully toasted with a hint of orange). The Pizza’s were “Braised lamb, red onion, roasted cherry tomatoes, garlic yoghurt” and “Spinach, caramelized onion, roasted pumpkin, pine nuts & feta”, both were fantastic.

The service was great, friendly, accessible, and the young girl on our table seemed to know the wine list well and made a cracker of a recommendation (I wish I could recall what it was, but seeing we had 3 of them, that is not surprising).

Overall it was not too pricy, and we all went away very full and very satisfied.

P.S. If you have a group of 12 to 18 there is a great massive square table at the rear which would be fantastic for large social groups.

I like it!. I finally got round to a Friday night at Station Street.

I went for a tapas selection of smaller plates, all of which i enjoyed. (Although my partner did think it was a little too oily)

Excellent wine selection with some good knowledge and advice from the bar too.

It was a nice setting but it did seem very quiet. There's nothing like this place out east - I really hope the owners can make a success of it.

Not the greatest. 7 staff, quiet day and little to no service. Food was disappointing and cold (must have let the steak rest far too long). Tried to grab the attention of one waitress to order a second drink but she was too busy sweeping and cleaning (1:30 in arvo) whilst others were chatting...Chef even popped out (whilst cooking) to have a 5 min chat with an old waitress. We were never offered another drink and gave up with trying to order one. Hopefully the food and service can improve so I can return.

Love a good Inquisition!. I stumbled on to this place purely by accident when looking for a quick bite and ended up having a long lunch.

Despite it being a particularly busy day with no tables available inside, we managed to find a comfortable table outside in cool weather.

Ended up trying the Spanish Inquisition, because there nothing like a witch burning to satisfy your appetite. It was creative and tasty.

The performance of the staff on the whole was better than I expected.

Service: Good
Staff: Good
Food: Very Good
Prices: a bit high
Authenticity: Not Applicable
Coffee: Very Good
Décor: Average

My favourite and my local. I love this place, and not just because they are displaying my photography! At this place its all about the staff. They are great and despite the change of ownership have managed to keep the culture of the place the same. Its relaxed, light, great coffee and lovely food. New menu items have appeared so im really looking forward to trying them. Oh and dont forget to have a look at my images while you are there ;)

I attended this cafe for lunch today with my family and my eleven month old son. I found the food and service to be fine, although I was extremely disappointed to fine this cafe very baby unfriendly. They do not provide high chairs, and when I requested a scrambled egg for my baby's lunch I was refused. This made me extremely angry, especially because they had a bacon and egg focaccia on the lunch menu. I was surprised to find this cafe so baby unfriendly because many of the customers were pregnant and/or accompanied by toddlers. Unfortunately I will not return to this cafe, they were not accommodating at all to me or my needs as a customer.

Really cute cafe, delicious coffee and friendly staff. On Friday nights they have happy hour from 5:30-6:30 and the cafe transforms into a relaxed wine bar. Will definitely visit one evening to check out that side of it!

A bit disappionting...crispy chicken salad was bland as the dressing was non existant. The steak sanga was ok except for the tough overcooked steak. Not a majorly bad place but when a bit of attitude starts creeping in to the service, you really dont feel like round 2.

Good brekkie - Great Gluten free bread. I drink coffee black and there blend was very average.
The bacon and eggs was a good size and fair enough in terms of taste.
The gluten free bread was excellent!!!
Very nice staff and service - thanks

Had breakfast with my partner at this cafe that we discovered from UrbanSpoon! Eggs Benedict was delious! Meals are pricey although they are large and left us full and satisfied! Would recommend to anyone.

I haven't been there in a while but the coffee is amazing! The service is good. The place has a nice laid back feel to it.

Great lunch today, great gluten free options, yummy quinoa salad, delicious coffee and friendly staff

Ridiculously overpriced. The service is friendly, but the coffee is rubbish, and among the most expensive in Melbourne. The menu items are ok, but not entirely sure why everybody raves about them. Nothing special, and extremely expensive. I've eaten at establishments with much higher overheads in busier inner urban areas that are a fraction of the price and much better quality. I think they have a monopoly on the market because there's nothing else in the area. Doesn't justify the price by any means

Excellent lunch. Had lunch here with a colleague and we were both very impressed. i had the steak sandwich and he had the veal scnitzel. my sandwich was a generous portion, well balanced flavours and not just a heap of stuff between two pieces of bread. the bread was also delicious, a lovely soft bread with a chewey crust.
the coffee was also excellent.
pricewise, its maybe not an everyday lunch place but i dont think you will be disappointed with station street cafe.

Will NEVER return. As a Hospitality Venue manager and my partner a executive chef and owner of a Chef's Hat restaurant, we actually are quite laid back about our dining experience; we don't judgeharshly nor do we get angered easily as it's a hard job to do and sometimes things just go wrong.. and more than often i make excuses for staff and venues because patrons can be harsh, rude and know it alls. We(hospo workers) all hate when someone drops they work in this industry but i'm doing it.

We patron here at least once a week and have sent a few of our staff there! the steak sandwich is yummy and there isn't a great lot of choices in the eastern suburbs.

The service is always luke warm at best, i'm not a fan of the coffee but my partner is and the menu is quite limited for us however we looked past these things and continued to dine.

a couple weeks ago took the cake! we ordered our coffees and breakfasts.. coffees took ages (as usual nothing new) then 20 mins after we ordered (most people exaggerate time when they are waiting so trust me i am NOT) a waiter came to our table (who i suspect to be a manager or supervisor) said they were out of bacon even though the table that ordered after us got their bacon, but that is an assumption i'm making.. i ordered the bacon and eggs i changed my order as i don't eat eggs i just want the bacon with toast ( i don't even get fussy altering my original order) the waiter had no problem and he offered chorizo to my partner who got a breakfast with everything pretty much. 10 mins later the breakfast were out, my partner was dissatisfied with his as it wasn't hot and quite cool.. i suggested just ask to get it heated which he was happy with.. too bad we never got any further service 30 minutes we sat there.. and we sat there to see if anyone would acknowledge us! my partner's meal was untouched and we were sitting in front of the waiters entrance at the bar! they all looked from the bar at our table but were too scared to ask us this is a BASIC method of service. many problems can be adverted if you just only acknowledge the customer.

I hate complaining but this time it had to be done! my partner went to the bar and spoke to a different waiter explained how we just sat there and no one came to us and we knew they noticed there was a problem!.. and how something so simple could've been done not to turn us, we never stated we were in this industry.. they took the meal of the bill and apologised that he didn't see us there. i have never reviewed and most of the time never trust urbanspoon as it's only ever one side of the story and patrons always think they know it all and are right.. there are reviews on here about me and the venues i've run which are false.

This experience was a disgrace.. this may not happen often there but service is pretty non existent as it is and they have a lot of staff on.

maybe some real management or staff training would help!

When I'm in the area I love coming here for a coffee and one of their fresh muffins. The staff are lovely and always friendly. My friend and I have sat and had breakfast a couple of times and its always enjoyable. When I'm in a rush the chorizo roll takeaway is my favourite. Thanks for all the great starts to my day Station Street Cafe, see you soon.

I had been here for breakfast, which was fantastic, so naturally I was excited when we booked in for Friday night tapas. I couldn't have been more disappointed. We ordered just about one of everything on the tapas menu, there was not a delicious dish amongst them. The only positive of the night was the girl who served us was lovely.

Lukewarm.. The experience at Station Street Cafe was lukewarm. It was not bad, nor good. The food was average, with a very limited lunch menu. The service was lovely. However, the food did took a long time to come out. Would not rush back.

Nice find in Nunawading. Recently tried it out for coffee. Enjoyed the couches and no-pressure service. Will definitely return and try out the menu. Very conveniently located a few doors from Springvale Rd, opposite Nunawading Station. Wish I had checked it out some time ago, as have long been looking for a different coffee/lunch spot on the weekends (it is open until 3 pm Sunday but kitchen closes a bit earlier). Interested to check out the live music on Friday nights too. Kudos for this, there aren't many places around with live music that aren't pubs.

What a pleasant surprise!. How great to have a really good cafe in the eastern suburbs. Good coffee, fresh tasty food (could be hotter), the best steak sandwich and plenty of room to relax. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. I have been there for just coffee, lunch, evening drinks and weekend brekkie each time it has been really good.

Was there a new barista today cos the coffees were heaps better.

We love this place. Friendly staff, perfect coffee and fabulous Sunday brunches or Friday night tapas and drinks. Highly recommended.

Great for a Sunday brunch. Group of 6 for Sunday brunch. Good coffee, much better food than expected, and lots of time to catch up with friends on a lazy Sunday morning.

Yummy food, however variety was limited. Would go back for seconds.

Coffee & lunch for 4. What a find! After seeing it in four different magazines we had to try this gem out and it was worth it. We stayed there for 2 and a half hours and there was lovely service. Time truely does fly. Atmosphere, location and ambience was good. Coffee was a little bitter to my liking but my chai after was reply smooth and silky. My friends boyfriends iced chocolate was very rich and indulgent. Food is a little bit of a let down. Steak sandwich was average-good, but a suggestion to improve on dips, try naan or pita bread, not toasted sourdough/multigrain. Will definitely come back and recommend. Overall: Service 9, Food 6.5, Coffee 8.5

So worth going out of the way for this neat and tidy cafe - definitely on my return list! The pancakes, and Spanish inquisition were up there with the best breakfasts I've experienced! Highly recommended for coffee also. A+++
