Review Katialo Greek Restaurant - Oakleigh

Very quiet mid week. Serving sizes are decent although quality is still reasonable. Splurged on the meat platter and while I can say 2 people minimum is correct (very impressed with the volume) the food itself was a little hit and miss. Chicken wings - good. Chicken skewers - dry. Pork skewers - spectacular. Meat patty - not very flavourful. Decor was nice, food a little overprice, and the music was occasionally too quiet and too loud, but a good selection

This location is fantastic! The ambiance is laid-back and laid-back, but the staff is quite friendly. They know what they're doing and talking about, and it's clear that keeping consumers pleased is their first concern. The food is decent, with some special classics and some variations, and it's well worth the money.

Really nice restaurant, with lots of space and a nice feel. The staff were very friendly. Had a quick bite for lunch and was very surprised that you could get a wrap with chips for $10! I don't think you'll find anywhere else with such a price for something so fresh and tasty..😮

It's a fantastic opportunity. The ambiance is both warm and inviting. Wines, food, and service were all outstanding. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and offers excellent advice.

We booked a table for eight to welcome an oversea visitor. We wanted a change from the usual restaurant that we used to go to. We NEVER regret.... the moment we stepped in..... services were above normal..... makes us welcome especially our visitor... and increase our appetite. We ate & drank happily and although it was a rainy night.... we enjoyed. Food was fresh and delicious.... embience..... superb..... this is the area to consider for your Greek/Italian dining in your next appointment !!! 😍🥇😀

Katialo sells St Gerry's loukamades with maple and walnut sprinkles. Super sweet, crispy yet soft donuts and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Poor service - pre booked a table for 6:30 and arrived on time. Once seated it took 30min for someone to acknowledge us and offer any service. Meanwhile 5-6 tables were cleared of leaving diners. The calling of meals to the kitchen was not structured as our mains came out half way through our starters causing a very cluttered table and no time for us to relax and order more drinks (also profit loss to the restaurant). Food was nice but we were left very bitter from the neglect of staff.

A group of four ordered 4 starters and 3 mains - all to be shared. For some reason which was never explained to us, the starters and the mains were all brought out at the same time - one big influx of food. I explained to the waitress that our group was waiting for all our starters to come out first and that it was unreasonable to bring the mains at the same time we were waiting for all the starters. They took the mains away and the rest of the starters were brought to our table. After about 30 minutes (as requested by me), our mains were brought out -- which were clearly the mains that were brought to our table 30 minutes earlier, having being kept warm until they could be re-served to us. Incredibly appetising to eat dry fish and dry lamb cutlets and barely warm. The prices are not cheap, so to be served this standard of food is disappointing. Overall, an underwhelming dining experience.

We were a table of 6. Ordered s variety of meat and seafood plates. The meat plates (mainly lamb) were served quickly. The lamb was dry. The seafood dishes were served arrived 30 minutes later...<br/>The waiter kept apologising, but did nothing to please us.<br/>Later, we complained at the cash register, the person didn't really care.<br/>None of us will be going back there!

A modern Greek restaurant in the heart of Oakleigh (Eaton Mall) was the destination for myself and a couple of friends.  We decided to order a range of dishes to share and got the Saganaki, Spanakopita, Zucchini Fritters, House made Tzatziki dip with pita bread and a traditional Greek Salad which I will say was one of the best Greek salad's I have ever had in a restaurant - super fresh veggies with quality Fetta cheese and a generous drizzle of beautiful olive oil...YUM. All of the dishes were entrees but were generous enough to feed 3 hungry people. Friendly service, we didn't feel rushed, quality decor and super clean bathrooms. Parking in Oakleigh is always a bit of a problem but managed to find something nearby. Overall a very enjoyable experience. The only things stopping me from giving them a 5 star rating was that there was one token vegetarian main on the menu and they wouldn't split the bill - I think this is almost a given these days and should be a service available to guests like any other.

We had dinner there. The food was really nice and good value. We ordered a meat platter for two. It could easily feed 5 people. The service was a little slow. Overall, it was a nice experience, with a lovely ambiance and we would go back again.

My favourite restaurant on Eaton street! Staff are friendly and attentive, and there is a nice cosy atmosphere. The food is great with original takes on classic Greek cuisine, offering a point of difference from many other restaurants nearby. Have also received a free Greek yoghurt for desert each time I have visited!! Highly recommended.

Amazing burgers and service. The chips were also real crunchy! Lamb burger had nice flavours and texture. Haloumi and eggplant burger was by far the best!

Seafood is always on the agenda when we're at a Greek restaurant. And so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have grilled octopus. This was a juicy, tender and meaty tentacle. Simply seasoned with oregano, lemon and olive oil this was so, so moreish. While the solitary tentacle may look meagre to some, I can assure you that this was a good sized serving. It came with a squeaky fresh salad.  <br/>We love white bait and this delightful basket was pretty tasty. A generous amount of these tiny fishies, which had a light batter. Oh-so-delicious! There was so much of it that we had to take some home in a takeaway container.

6 of us went for dinner. Ordered our meals. 1 person got their main meal within 5 minutes. The entres followed 5 minutes later. Then 3 of us got our main meal 20 minutes later the other couple were still waiting for theirs and after another 20 minute wait they were told it’s on the way. Finally they cancelled their meal. Our evening was ruined. The bill for what we ate came to over $225. They offered a $25 discount NOT GOOD ENOUGH KATIALO. NO APOLOGY. <br/>I have been a regular there but never again.

The calamari was delicious, but then again, how can you ever go wrong with fried calamari? The sausages on the mixed platter were a little bit too salty, the chicken pieces were slightly pink inside, and the meat patties were a bit burnt. Other than that, everything else was delicious.<br/><br/>A great place for a quick dinner or a night out.

Was driving slightly near Oakleigh when the bloke suggested that we stop for dinner.I was astounded when walking past all the restaurants in the mall - whats with all the smoking at the tables? I saw people smoking and eating on the same table.<br/>Picked Katialo since it was at the end of the mall with no smokers outside.What a great choice.We shared the grilled bell peppers, grilled zucchini and the garlic scallops. The food was fresh tasting and covered in garlic. Yum. The serving staff were quick and friendly . We shall be back.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Eaton mall. Their halloumi burger is excellent, and anything that comes with their fantastic home made tzatziki will be worth trying. Meat is well cooked, juicy and tender. A little more expensive than some other Greek places nearby but well worth it in my opinion. Service was also fast and friendly.

Kids meal was ok, but nuggets tasted fatty inside, so my children didn’t eat them. Some tables receive complimentary dessert others didn’t including ours and we spent over $200!<br/><br/>Food was average, size was huge, eggplant dip tasted fishy which was weird, service was great. Really hoped it would of been better. I won’t be back.

Visited this Greek restaurant over the weekend. Our table of 8 wasn't ready and we were freezing so the restaurant gave us free hot chocolate while waiting. I'm already liking the service! Ordered the meat platter, meatballs, fried white bait and fried calamari. The servings were generous and tasty (although some of the meat were overly seasoned with salt). At the end of our meal, we were served complimentary dessert - greek yogurt with honey drizzle and walnuts. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience.

I popped in here tonight and had the spanakorizo - spinach and rice with feta cheese ... nice presentation, clean flavours, a well priced very well cooked meal, served by nice pleasant staff ... the complimentary yoghurt is a nice touch too ... I’ll be back

My ice hockey team came here at 9:30pm on a Monday night after being turned away from the restaurant we had originally planned to go to. Katialo welcomed us with open arms at the late hour, served us very delicious souvlaki in a good time frame, and always made sure we had full water jugs on the table (appreciated after a game, when the whole team are drinking like fish). They even treated us to some shared plates of Greek yoghurt with walnuts, cinnamon and honey as an unexpected dessert!<br/>We felt like they truly cared about customer service for us, and so will definitely be coming back here next time our team has a post game dinner. Thank you Katialo!

Nice greek coffees, staff are really friendly too.. and the atmosphere is nice here too, not as noisy, much quieter than other places in the mall, and easier to have conversations. Great for groups and gatherings... Have had a few meals here since they’ve opened.. souvlakia plate is really good, fresh ingredients and nice seasoning on the meat.. the chips are cut in house and are beer battered and have a nice crunch, not oily and well seasoned. Salads are pretty good here too. Decent portions and lots of meat.

There was quite the striking bald fellow at the bar who seemed to work like a ninja, balancing himself and making himself at peace while providing the busy eaton mall with coffees, cocktails and a glistening smile. I ordered a Strong 3/4 turmeric latte with half a sugar. Perfection! One of the greatest baristas of all time.<br/>Breakfast was on par and the service was good.

Came for breakfast. Ordered the asparagus scrambled eggs. It was basically a huge egg mess. No creaminess, no flavour. The toast was uninspiring basic white bread like you get in Coles. A tiny side of butter that barely covered one slice. <br/><br/>My husband ordered the Aegean omelette which was another average attempt. Dry, no flavour, basically looked like something you'd get on an airplane. He also ordered an iced frappe which, by the time we'd finished both meals, still hasn't come out and there was hardly any other patrons. <br/><br/><br/><br/>

A group of 17 of us dined here Sunday 15th Oct for a friend's birthday. The drinks and food came out and it was great and that's where it all ended!<br/>This is the third time we have been to Katialo with the exact same group. The first time was fantastic, the second time was good (except for one meal been forgotten and part of the bill mixed up with another table!). This time sorry guys but your great food just doesn't make up for your totally pathetic service!!<br/>After all the food arrived one waitress asked us if everything was ok. And it was. But then nobody bothered to ask if we would like dessert, tea or coffee after our meal. The table was not cleared for 45 minutes after everyone finished. We asked for more water and that took 20 minutes to arrive (after asking a second time!). But when we asked for the bill it arrived in 20 seconds. <br/>When you put out tables and chairs for 80 people, make sure you have staff that can cover that amount of people. When the waiting staff come out to serve tables, they can clear tables that have finished on the way back in. And they should always check in on customers.  Love your food guys but your service tonight was just not good enough.

This place is a great new edition to the famous Oakleigh Mall wow great staff & the food is 10/10 we had zucchini chips , grilled octopus, garlic prawns & meat skewers they even bring out a complementary fruit platter after your meal give it a go WOW i will be back soon .

Well what can I say about this restaurant it's just amazing food is fantastic nice and fresh. Staff are on the ball here. Was in there last night had a really nice waitress serve us she knew exactly what to do took very good care of us very friendly and I must say very polite. You don't get many like her. Well done. We have been here before and she's always taken good care of us. It's really nice to see that this place has always got the same waitress and waiter working here. Bravo keep up the good work and the fantastic serve and food. Highly recommend this place. 😊 thank you

Service was great,l. The octopus was good quality but i needed to add salt and lemon as it didnt have much favour.. after adding this it was beautiful! I prefer a lil Charing on mine though.... <br/>Feta and oregano chips were great. <br/>Saganaki was delicious. <br/>Bread and dips were average and minimal bread and dip was given. <br/>My frappe was too watery. <br/>Almost there!! Just neee to tweek a few things. <br/>

Such a great meal and service from Katialo! We have lived in the area for 3 years and have struggled to find a Greek restaurant that we love in Oakleigh. We'll be coming back here for sure! Strongly recommend the calamari - succulent and light. Great restaurant fit-out, super friendly and efficient staff and delicious food!

I went here for lunch. The service was really friendly, polite and quick. The Greek music playing in the background added to the authentic feel for this restaurant/cafe.<br/><br/>For lunch I had a cheese, tomato and ham toastie w some hot chips. The toastie was really good, fresh and hot. Yummm haha<br/><br/>The hot chips were excellent, some of the best that I've had. <br/><br/>Fir what it was today's lunch was perfect. But there a lot if carbs so all I wanted to do was go to sleep haha

Well what can I say this time last year I was in Greece and tonight's dinner certainly took me back. I have been eating in Oakleigh for the last 11 years and Katialo Greek Restaurant reflects authentic Greek cuisine at its finest. The staff are friendly and very attentive. I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment. Cheers 🍷
