Review Stables - Oatlands

Sean
A lovely food bar, which owns by a family, mum and daughter are involved in the day-to-day running of the business. I wasn't feeling very hungry but a homemade two rounds of steak sandwich was really delicious. It became practical to make this trip in winter, although I remembered Silent Hill while I arrived in Oatlands in the morning covered by a freezing fog.

History meets modern in Oatlands. The Stables Licensed Restaurant is located on the Main St of Oatlands. Set in a stone constructed building, with attached 1832 stables, with antiques for sale. Very unique. The dining area has an old petrol pump as a centre piece. As the site once was a service station. The dining area is large, modern, light and bright, with a large open fire. The kitchen is open plan, over looking the dining area with an 1800's coffee grinder. Very functional. An Al Fresco area in the front of the building with umbrellas, stone seating, sets the place off. Out back a very spacious walled court yard complete with original well and hand pump. The lunch brunch menu, along with blackboard specials, makes for good choices. We had a very nice coffee and a delicious cake. All very relaxing and pleasant. Opening hours 9 to 4.30pm 7 days, open for diner Frid & Sat evening. A very good call.

They should give her the award for rudeness! We went in and it was just us. It took the lady something like two and half hours to cook 2 steak sandwiches, rea & scones and a coffee. Actually she also assumes that when I ordered a tea & scones I did not want tea. When asked for my tea, no apologies received for forgetting it or for lateness. Just some mumbling about what she thought my order was (ie tea& scones but without tea). Never again!

You must stop at Oatlands! We found the whole town more historically charming than Richmond. It is a great spot for photographers and the restaurant was very pleasant with pretty gardens.

Incredible experience. Fresh cream, jam and scone! The owner even showed me how to eat a freshly baked scone! Thanks from Miami!
