Stopped in here for lunch on Wednesday with my wife. Really enjoyed the great quality food and the fantastic service in all areas. Highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back.
The chef and the staff were fabulous. Great food! We had the house special steak and the fish. Both excellent. Staff were very attentive. Will definitely go back!
Great food, lovely warm atmosphere and just the best staff around. Mark, the Publican is a genuinely good bloke who clearly loves the local Mt dandy community.
So good! Beautiful food, great friendly staff and warm by the open fire. The parmigiana's are amazing. Huge! We enjoyed the soup, veal scallopine and the awesome calamari green curry.
Beautiful food served by wonderful staff. To top it off we were entertained afterwards by a great rockband called Sleepers. Highly recommended.
Found the hotel to be very clean and put us near the fireplace as it was a cold night, the service was excellent and the food was fantastic would recommend this little country pub to anyone
Delicious meal and fantastic customer service. I will definitely be coming back again!
The new chef here is amazing. Every meal we have had here over the past few months has been amazing. Last time we had the Salmon and it was truly amazing. Next time you're up in the Dandenong Ranges you have to come here for lunch or dinner. We'll always be back.
Best food. Great service! I've always ordered off the specials and it never disapoints. Large portions and warm fire places.
Took my mum here for lunch today. We had the Cajun chicken and Thai beef salad. The best meals we have ever had! The new chef is amazing! Will be coming back! :D
Dinner last night for the mans birthday. Meals were fantastic, very reasonably priced. Service was amazing. The waitress was brilliant. And the fact you were cooking the meals by yourself was simply astonishing. The open fire topped it off. Never disappointed. I think we will be making this a monthly family occurrence. Keep up the spectacular work.
Good old school pub no bells and whistles just good food good beer and nice people
Beautiful delicious hearty meals. Warm atmosphere and friendly helpful staff.
Love the food and the friendly atmosphere Mark and Jenny are so welcoming!
The service was great and my mushroom / chicken risotto even better! Whole family was very satisfied and we enjoyed our evening out!
We love the Mt D. Celebrated our wedding anniversary last night. Sat at a great table...right next to the enormous open fire. Mark is such a welcoming host. I had the best meal ever...beef, mushroom and red wine pie...it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

Love Mark, Jen and Andrea. Always greeted with a friendly smile and awesome service.
Fantastic pub, awesome owners and tasty food.
One of only a few pubs where you can ride your horse up to it and put them in the stables out the back while you go inside and have lunch and drinks!
Also a great venue for birthdays or weddings etc.
Steak burger was delicious. Excellent service. We will be back!
Foods great, Mark and Jenny are great. Love the atmosphere. It's an upmarket country pub
Set in the hills thus pub served us s great lunch. Tasty food with fast service and a fire place as well. All dishes were fresh and served hot ! I’ll be back another time.
Been coming here since I was a little kid. It’s a bit tired and dated but also kind of quaint and the food is terrific - pub grub but always a good feed. Cosy in winter with open fire.
beautiful area, and clasic original features that catch your eyes, lovely art work and photos of the area dating way back to 1931, showing the history of the area!
meals were presented beautifully, the home made pie was to die for! great choices of drinks!
Will definately reccommend trying this place out.
great for functions, family's and couples, birthdays or anything!
they also have gluten free options, and a vegan/ vegetarian menu!
Located in the greens of Mount Dandenong this hotel- pub- restaurant offers a good option for Australian meal. Ambience is good , a well maintained establishment with decent deating in the indoors , limited outdoors. 3/5
The bar offers a range of spirits, wines and limited beer options. Cocktails is the handicap. 3/5
Meals options are good with variety in lamb, beef, chicken , sea food, entrees and mains, limited options in veg. We tried garlic bread, chicken parma, fish and chips, risotto and salad. Food was good value for money, good servings. 4/5
Revisit : Yes
The service was outstanding, they served with a smile! The food was amazing, they cookes it to perfection! Amazing Steak! Although I wanted ribs!
Service was spot on!! There was a bit of a wait with dessert and they gave us a double serving and free hot chocolates to make up for it - very impressed! The food was also delicious and the vibe very cosy on a winter's day. Definitely great value. Hanging out next to the fire was also a treat.
We had lunch on a Sunday, risotto and burger was amazing!! We will be visiting again, decore a little dated but the staff were really helpfull and nice.
Interesting mix of reviews here. Maybe it depends on which chef is working. I ate the most superb Barramundi on mash with lemon sauce while my wife loved every bit of the roast. Good food, good service, good price.....no complaints here.
Three of us had the utmost lovely lunch here today and the service was some of the friendliest and customer-engaged we've experienced. My friend said her Parma was the best she'd ever had, and the kind chef even included pineapple as per the Hawaiian Parma they usually only do for Wed night specials. Looking at it it looked very nice, great crumbs, stringy cheese.
Her husband had the beer-battered fish and chips, which both meals came out with a really nice looking mixed salad plus chips.
I ordered the delicious sounding house-crafted gnocchi carbonara with wild mushrooms, prosciutto, fresh parsley and Parmesan. Being a vegetarian, I assumed the prosciutto was the bacon substitute in the carbonara as bacon wasn't mentioned in the carbonara. I asked because of my vegetarianism if they could leave out the prosciutto, which to my glee wasn't at all a problem!
Unfortunately when I received my ever so delicious bowl of goodness, I noticed there were still torn up bacon bits throughout and I didn't know what to do.
I ended up going and speaking to our frontman and explained the situation and they were kind enough to whip me up a new one without prosciutto AND bacon, which I was so appreciative and apologetic for. (He was also happy to have a yummy lunch now lol)
The gnocchi was fluffy but still well cooked, fresh spinach was also stirred through which I lovvved, but the wild mushrooms were beautiful! Definitely not stingy on the nice produce that should promote the delicious gnocchi, and not too 'wild' that it was like eating tentacles and whatnot! Very creamy but hey who cares about the hips when everything is so yummy, tasty, friendly and perfect!
Drinks, food, friends and sunshine on this beautiful day, couldn't have asked for more! We will definitely be back as we couldn't stop talking about the friendly service and delicious food. I was surprised to see the previous reviews on here for sure!! Thanks for a great Saturday team at Mt Dandenong Hotel! :) :)
Not just a pub!
BEAUTIFUL food - we had the scallops, paella and beef cheeks and everything was delicious and of a good portion.
GREAT service - noting also it was a Saturday night - food was prompt, staff were friendly, tables were clean and the open fire was warm and welcoming.
The owner Mark was beyond welcoming and the locals treated us like one of them!
We popped into the sports bar to watch the Saturday night football and then headed across to watch the karaoke which was surprisingly REALLY good!
I will remember this night for a long time; LOTS of laughs, great food, well priced, CHEAP DRINKS.
If only I lived closer it'd be my new local :)
Warm and friendly. Love it. My wife and myself prefer to head up the mountain on quieter nights midweek to an old fashioned pub.
The food is good, hearty, and quite tasty. It's not fine dining but that's not why we come here.
The atmosphere is great, and my most memorable visit was on a stormy night, seated near the open fire, looking out the bay windows and seeing that we were in the clouds, lightning flashing, and then the power went out.
No matter, the candles came out, the fire kept going, and we continued to enjoy our night.
Last..... NO POKIES!!!
I regularly recommend this place to all my friends.
We come here every Wednesday love the mt D. The food is absolutely amazing.
Underrated. Not sure how this place is rated so low. The food is great as is the service! Will be back!
Great place!!!. Love coming here!! Great food, great service!! We will be back!! Thanks guys!!
Great service, amazing food!! Been coming here for years!! Great place, highly recommend! A gem!!
Love our local !! Awesome value and good old fashioned pub meals.
Good old fashioned pub food in a great in environment the Mt Dandy pub never disappoints
Amazing! So happy with the menu and the service. Come at least once a week. The parmie is fabulous.
2 great meals - thanks!. After reading some dull reviews here, i just wanted to go back to our fave place to eat locally to see if the bad reports were true...
We were greeted promptly and shown to our table, near the huge open fire +++!!, and as usual the service was friendly. Ok, the decor isn't the latest, but the atmosphere is still casual and relaxed, in a lovely setting. I ordered ocean trout, and my partner a 400g rib eye with pepper sauce. I was not disappointed with the fish, it was cooked perfectly, and the chips & salad tasty. My partners response to the rib eye was ' this is really good' (yes that's as good as it gets), and were were also happy with the Little Creatures Pale Ale being on tap and the house Cab Merlot - all thumbs up!
Those rumours are not correct. We will be back.

Don't expect anything fancy. Big simple well done pub meals. kids loved theirs and mum had the biggest beef ribs ever. Chips are sensational. James squire beers on tap. Big roaring fire. Nice and simple and exactly what you expect from it. Live music sat night was a bit too loud at 7pm. Nice staff but dated chairs (dodgy cow hide!) and dated interior. I think it almost adds to the place though, weirdly! We have been here a few times and I keep coming back for the simple kid oriented night out with family.
Great food prompt service and good prices. Go on Thursday for steak night bargain at $16 if going for lunch on the weekend give the pig and whistle a miss and come here instead.nice open fire in winter
Good local. I ate here earlier in the year and it was good food, affordable and the staff were friendly. It's appeal is in being a genuine local pub rather than an overpriced tourist trap like many places further up the road. So if want proper country pub its great.
A nice drive up the mountains. .
Pros:
- Good country-pub style food
- Open fireplace, nice drive up the mountains
- Casual atmosphere, beer garden, good place to just chill
Cons:
- What was once the best roasted pork belly in the whole State is now just average
- Have to order & pay at counter, but they do bring it out to your table
- Menu is brief so doesn't encourage repeat business on a regular basis
A lovely pub on top of the "big hill".
Staff were fantastic. Atmosphere fantastic. Establishment is very clean and tidy!
The food that we orderd was excellent! The only disappointment was a mushroom gravy came out as a peppercorn gravy (that I can't eat). However, my hubby tried the peppercorn gravy and said it was absolutely delicious!
We will definitely be back :)
This place is really a step back in time, in a good way. A huge fireplace, the furniture, the floral carpet and the old bar feels really different after all the blond wood and glass treatment of modern pubs. The whole place feels well worn but well maintained and clean. The food is not outstanding or innovative but it's good honest cooking and that's fine. Prices are very reasonable too. A roast for under $25 with 5-6 generous pieces of lamb, veg and crisp roast potatoes, with lots of gravy and mint jelly is nice and great value. The bar is well stocked with about 8 beers and cider on tap. Service is really quick and friendly. Well worth a visit.

Good old country vibe pub!
Good feed with exceptional portions, will fill up the biggest of eaters.
A nice place to stop at whilst visiting the Dandenongs, sit in the front beer garden, enjoy the fresh air whilst enjoying a cold beer off the tap with a decent feed.
Plenty off the street parking available.
2nd visit and didn't disappoint with the expectations that come with a country-like pub!
TAB facilities.
Support local.

Cosy pub in the mountains, great food, pub atmosphere with a separate dining area by a huge open fire...
Fantastic customer service.
The head chef is fabulous, very helpful in customising my meal. I really appreciate his input.
Very friendly staff and fabulous food.
Thank you for looking after us.
Cold, rainy Friday and I am chilled to the bone. Lunch at the Mount Dandenong Hotel warms me beside the open fire, cheers me with a red wine and repletes me with tasty food. Incredible value, generous serves (senior's lunch) and helpful, friendly staff. Now I need to find a reason to visit again very soon! (Edit - that second visit was the following week!)
