Review Walafel - Ormond

Quincy Malesovas
Walafel is one of the best restaurants in the area by far and one of my favourite falafel spots in Melbourne. The vegetarian menu is much more interesting than your standard falafel joint, offering a range of sweet and savoury dishes and vegan options at reasonable prices. Obviously, the waffle (falafel waffle) is the signature. I tried one topped with hummus and and tahini and two types of tasty, crunchy pickles. It’s such an interesting texture and lovely blend of flavours. While this dish was good, I think I loved the malawach even more. It’s a flakey Yemenite pastry filled with assorted veg, pickles, and the freshest falafel. The pastry and falafel are a true match made in heaven.

Been seeing this place as I go past for awhile now and was pretty curious. Saw the good reviews here so thought I'd give it a go thinking it might be more the novelty value. There is that but it's so much more, I had the signature namesake dish walafel for $12 and comes with a drink for that price and I was so happy with it. So delicious and the variety of food and flavours. As well the presentation was excellent. Finally the service was friendly, warm and fast and I also enjoyed the ambience of the place. I was there for a weekday lunch. My son also very much enjoyed the Belgian chocolate waffle tho he wished it was bigger. Of course he did 🤣 they also serve up your more standard falafel fare such as pita pockets etc. That also looked really good and reasonably priced, reckon I might have to come back for a crack at some of them at a later date glad to have a falafel/pitta joint in my area as previously I probably would've headed to Caulfield or balaclava to get my fix now I can walk here

Super light tasty wrap, was really fresh and tasty Angelina wrap. Their falafel is superstar level! A really cute welcoming place. Can’t wait to try the weekend lunch in the courtyard.

Ordered the Falafel Plate. The falafels were cooked fresh on the spot with delicious matching side salads. The pita was soft and fluffy, only wish they gave 6 instead of 4 pieces. All in all a great feed.

Surprisingly good vegan and gluten free felafel waffles in the quiet suburb of Ormond. The walafels tasted like felafel but is healthier as it's not fried. The accompanying pickles salad is just as delicious. They also have sweet waffle options, also gluten free. Highly recommend!

Had the signature "Walafel" and it was super tasty. The decor is great and the owner is very friendly. They also have plenty of vegan options. Would recommend!

This is an amazing tastier and healthy food in low price. A must try vegetarian food. I prefer walafel Ormond over subway.

Three of us had dinner there yesterday. We sampled various dishes and enjoyed our meal immensely! I was apprehensive as I don’t usually choose vegan food but everything was delicious! The falafel are definitely the best in Melbourne and the walafel , a waffle made of falafel was equally delicious, without being deep fried. We also had the Angelita Malawah, a delicious , flaky pastry with salsa and hard boiled egg. I will be back and will happily order all of those dishes again!

Tried the new Walafel which I found different however very tasty. Then they served extra falafel with the meal at no extra cost. Talk about going the extra bit. Thanks

Finding reasonably priced vegetarian options is hard but this place was great! I had the pita pocket and it was the perfect lunch size meal and good priced too. Flavours were really good, can't wait to stop by again

Walafel offers delicious falafel, waffle, and dessert options, all of vegan and kosher offering. The falafel plate was fresh, tasty, and balanced - filling me up by not stuffing me out. Nice and unassuming interior right in the midst of the North road hustle. Support your local businesses and visit this great community option. I drove for 20 minutes to get there and it was definitely worth it for a great feed!

Fantastic kosher, vegetarian fare with vegan options. Friendly and knowledegable service.
Not sure about their name giving signature dish walafel, basically a waffle made of falafel mixture. Healthier than deep fried falafel, but the falafels are so~ooo good! Pair it up with the malawach (Yeminte flaky pastry) add salads and dips ... heaven.
My absolute favourite is "The Diva".
Try it and you will understand. Everything freshly made to order.
On our visit we were given the vegan chocolate mousse and vegan brownie to try, both not our thing.
The ambience of Walafel is so so, could probably improve. But if you go around the corner or through the back there's "The Black Yard", a pretty cosy & cool place open Saturdays and Sundays, serving Jachnun.

Lovely falafel restaurant in Ormond not far from my work and just 2-3 min walk from the station. I often go on a Friday and get something to go. They make everything up fresh to order which is always a plus. Love the pita pockets with corn fritters and also the Angelita wrap with egg!

Great hidden gem just a short walk away from where I work. Great fresh food made daily. Quick and friendly service from the boys all the time.

Ordered from here at my daughter's suggestion and was pleasantly surprised! The quality of the falafel is fantastic. I don't know how they get them so soft inside but I'm a big fan.

Happy to see that they're also available on Uber Eats in my area so I'll definitely be ordering from here again, keen to try the signature 'walafel' next time!

Second me ate at walafel. Such a great little place, all vegetarian, the staff makes you feel very welcome. They prepare the food close to you, so you can see. I had the walafel pita, everyone loved their meal. We will come back. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the music. We haven't found something we didn't like yet!

I finally got to try a Walafel and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a quite unique combo but it works!
The food is freshly made and presented in nice way. It's full of flavour, healthy and prices are reasonable. I really want to try more from their menu!
The shop is small but quite cozy! Lovely staff as well.
Will definitely come back here.

I had their signature dish (the walafel) and it was delicious. Full of flavour, very healthy (with heaps of vegetables and salad) and superb value. I see they have expanded their menu and opening hours recently, so looking forward to trying new items on their menu.

Living in Bentleigh East the options are few for a quality falafel. Thank you walafel for opening and thank you for having the best falafel I have ever had. My go to on a weekly basis!

I've been meaning to leave a review for these guys for ages! As someone that is going vegan - finding gems like this place is always so great! From the minute you walk in you are made to feel welcome in its cozy environment - The management has worked in the industry for a long time, and the chefs have some recipes that have come straight from the Middle East and can only be described as AMAZING! It's healthy, it's inexpensive, the service and vibes are great! It's a gem that locals flock to, but that my friends and I will always travel a bit further to come to - it's so worth it!

First time at Walafel! Incredible service! All the servers were accomodating which was such a bonus! On top of this, the food was exceptional! Such a fantastic balance of sauces and toppings. Love the waffle concept and will definitely be going back!

One of the best falafels I have ever had!! As soon as Walafel opened, I have been going at least once per week. From the falafel plate to the falafel pitas - these guys cannot do wrong! Being a local to the area, this is my favourite place in Ormond and I think we are lucky to have such a quality product in the area! If you are looking for the best falafel in Melbourne, it's right here!

Right near my work these guys are pumping some sick falafels, they're hella tasty and the service is quick and prompt. Definitely one of those hidden gems in the area.

A hidden gem! The falafel here is seriously the best in town. Big call but they really are perfection. Salads are fresh and the service was swift and friendly.

Having just had a wonderful falafel for my dinner and a friendly conversation with the owner, I have left very happy and am sure to return soon.
So happy to find an authentic place serving falafel with a twist which I highly recommend.

My friend and I both got the name sake dish, the 'Walafel'. Some sort of Falafel/Waffel hybrid. It was really delicious! Came with house made pickles, hummus, salad and a few other sauces. The restaurant has a cosy welcoming feel and the staff are very friendly. Will defiantly be going back.
