Review Festival India - Osborne Park

Barun Dutta
Just returned from the shop. 14 April 10 pm. Booked for 730 pm for three families. Water and menu served after few requests about 20 mins of waiting. Food served at 9 pm. Total lack of management. Two servers kept on saying sorry but resources were lacking . Attention was focused on uber eat couriers. Why have so many varieties if do not have resources? Knowing night before long weekend will be rush cater for some one to manage cash desk and ordering. If u r unable to cater stop taking orders. Your capacity and capability to be matched. Do u really care for a good customer service? Honestly vthe owner was talking to some one but did not bother to come and express sorry. The young servers were good with smile but outcome remained same - poor delivery. Food quality and price was acceptable.

Ate for the first time here tonight and it was AMAZING! The service was spectacular. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The food is one of the best I've ever eaten. We had the butter chicken and it was so delicious. Will definitely be returning! Please support businesses in these tough times.

Very authentic Indian food with probably the best Dosa in Perth. Highly recommended will definitely visit again

Food was really delicious appreciate it. But I was waiting for 40 to 45 min, would be gone home and prepare food if I haven’t paid. The service is horrible, i went in to the restaurant to ask about my food and how long should I wait, i could hear a large laughing and a chat from the kitchen in side the restaurant. Also the lady i asked the food for was telling me something but I could not understand, when i was asking again she repeated the same, talking in native language is okay but not for someone who do not understand it. I really don’t think it is okay as a worker to judge people from the appearance I personally think it’s a bit sign of racism.

Great service, food came quickly, lots of vegan options too if you swing that way. Had the chicken ultharm myself and it was blasting with flavour. Also tried some goat curry which was delicious - price was solid and good portions!

Really good food, relatively short wait for a Friday night and friendly service. I am glad we finally found an Indian restaurant that we like and will definitely be back! The kids absolutely loved it as well.

I got take away and everything was way too sweet. Seriously, Indian food is one of my favourite and I tried many restaurants in past..here every dishes was oversweet. Samosa, small and no taste.

We had catering from festival India for my son’s birthday and the food was amazing delicious and service was awesome. The chef has great knowledge about what he do. Highly recommended. MUST TRY HERE 🙂

Had an amazing dosa last night with delicious chikoo milkshake.

Festival India restaurant are well known in the perth city. Reasonably priced good food and drink. Lots of drinks and dining room, with plenty of music in Hindi, Punjabi and English. The menu favourite that keeps me coming back is the Indian and seafood. Really tasty, nice and hot, perfect for a summer night. Always glad that I decided to go and happy that I went. Raj and Aman was my server tonight. Very attentive and helpful. Always nice when a restaurant succeeds because of its staff and not in spite of it. This location is about the same driving distance to the Main city, Osborne park, but I prefer eating here. The atmosphere seems a little more calm and under control.

Fantastic, had an amazing byriani with vegetable curry! One of the best I've had in Australia!
Went to pick up from the restaurant which seemed like a very nice and calming atmosphere. The lady that greeted me was extremely polite and helpful!

Our favourite Indian in Perth, particularly given it is southern Indian. Service is always outstanding. We are very lucky to have this as our local.
Carla Rose
My favourite Indian restaurant. My husband and I have been coming here for years. The service is friendly and prompt. The food is delicious. I recommend the gobi manchurian. Who knew cauliflower could taste so good? We also love the chicken tika, kerala lamb curry and kerala paratha. Also try the chikoo milkshake, it's very good. I look forward to each visit.

We love this restaurant, one of our favourite locals.
Atmosphere is a bit lacking inside but the food is always delicious every time. Staff are quiet but friendly.
Mary-jane_cullen
Cannot fault this place. Food is delicious, honest and inexpensive - our takeaway orders are usually under $70 and feeds 4 people. Staff are just wonderful - looking forward to going in for a meal when our baby is a little older. All the dishes I have tried have been just so yummy! highly recommend

Mouthfull of cartlidge is not very nice! We started with the beef samosas which were ok. For mains we had beef vindaloo, pepper chicken and rice. The beef vindaloo tasted great, but was lacking in meat and was mainlya bowl of sauce. The pepper chicken dish had fantastic flavours with fresh curry leaves and again light on meat. It was a real pity when we both bit down on cartlidge, which really let this dish down. As a minor point, the amount of rice was inadequate to soak up the sauce in the meal. The lime pickle consited of 1 grape sized lime cut in half which did not go far. overal, great flavours in the dishes, but lack of detail to presentation and skimping on the meat too much.
Akshara
We ordered mixed platter, parrota, poori, chappathi , goat curry , chicken vindallo and mango lassi. Parrota, poori and mango lassi were good. Chappathi was too thick, goat curry and chicken vindallo and in mixed platter Gopi manchurian and chicken 65 was tooooo salty that we could not eat. I will never ever suggest any of my friends nor family to have food in that restaurant. That is my first and last time to have food in that restaurant.

Best service. Great food. Waiting staff great knowledge of products. Go back lots of times rest small n convenient . Very friendly staff. Yumm food

Unfortunately I cant give less than 1 rating.

Spoke to them on Saturday morning asking if they can cook Dosa's. The person who picked up the phone assured it and asked me to reserve a table.

When I reached there and place the order, after waiting for more than 30-40 minutes, and inquiring a couple of times the waitress said the chef cant make dosas.

The food is very average in taste. you wont find any difference between sambhar and dal. They have placed a big 50" TV right in the centre of a restaurant and the volume is LOUD...

Surely there are better places around. If you wish to try south indian food I would suggest going to MAdras Cafe, Mela or any other restaurant around Perth.

BTW I paid full amount for Papad which I ate waiting for the waitress who didnt till she cant serve dosas till I asked a couple of times.

Best south indian cuisine in Perth. The quality and taste were a value for what they cost. A must try and we will certainly return as its really hard to come by a good southern indian restaurant which serves good tiffin even during dinner and most importantly fresh.

Went there on a Friday night since I had heard a lot about it earlier. I had previously done a take away and loved the food, I was in Perth for the weekend and wanted to dine in this time. I havent come across an Indian restaurant that i can compare to Festival India in Sydney. The food is simply amazing, a very comprehensive yet outstanding menu. The ambience gives a perfect feel of being in India and taste of food will leave you wanting to come over every weekend.
I ordered for Methi nan jeera rice, chicken tikka and stir fried beef, and to my surprise even though the restaurant was running at full capacity I got the food within 20 minutes. The staff supervised by Bani and Kamal are simply amazing very helpfull in deciding what to order and delivering as well. Overall an amazing experience and everyone must visit.
Shaun Rose
Excellent south indian food and friendly staff. There are some great dishes on the menu, our favourites are the chikoo lassi, Kerala parathas, dosas and gobi manchurian!

Excellent Food. Been to Festival India restaurant and we love their food. We get take away from them often. My favourite is their parathas and chicken chettinade. Would go back there for sure anytime.

Authentic Indian food ever tasted in Perth. I have a had a meals at this restaurant and must say this is by far the best Indian resturant i could find after living here for more than 10 years.
Both the North Indian and South indian dishes have the feel of a home cooked meal and the prices are very reasonable.
Hats off to the team at Festival India.

Great Indian. My husband and I went to Festival Indian last night. We love Indian food, but have been disappointed lately by some Indian Restaurants. We have been trying some Indian restaurants that we have not been to before. Festival is the best so far. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food, lovely ambience and good service. We would both highly recommend Festival to anyone who likes Indian food. We were also impressed by the wine list. While we went BYO, we checked the wine list out and we were happy to see such a well constructed variety of wines at very reasonable prices.

Never try again. Me and my husband went to there today, it was just so bad service and bad food was there and that too to expensive. ordered2 items and said we need it one by one and they just served it together....can you believe it...and it is so expensive. We ordered Gobi Manchurian thought of trying something else but when it came we were surprised to see quantity of it... you can hardly have 8 to 10 bites for paying $18...really, you can have whole lunch or dinner by that much amount. When we said about it what was the reply you know, that is our normally quantity....wow...so great..who will go there to pay $60 for only 3 dishes for 2 people and still stomach not full....Everyone in Australia work hard and saves each $ and they are just looting it...I don't mind paying for something which satisfy taste and quantity for money but here... you will be disappoint by quality and quantity....

And one more think they ask our feedback and when we said about quality and quantity they just ignored it and said this our standard...

I suggest you to never visit this place if you want good food for your $....

Authentic South Indian Food in Perth.. In my opinion Festival India is the only restaurant in Perth which serves authentic south Indian food. Whenever my partner and I miss authentic south Indian food we come here for the yummy, must eat Paneer butter masala, malabar chicken curry and Kerala parata. Some of the other must eat dishes are gobi manchurian, biryani (veg and non veg) and chikoo shake. Overall great food, welcoming staff and good ambience!!

-----05 Feb, 2015-----

Authentic South Indian food!!. Must visit restaurant for those who love South Indian food :-)

Best south indian meal!!. Absolutly love this place!!! The chikoo shake soo good..Me and my partner would pop in for some good south indian paratas and goat curry (love the fact their curry is thick and not runny)..The fish wrapped in banana leaves is my other favorite here :) Overall good food and ambience!!

Excellent Taste. We have been visiting this restuarant so many times in the past year and it has always been great. Service can be up and down depending on the activity level but the food quality has been never compromised. Only Indian restuarant that serves authentic both north indian and south indian food. Highly recommended. Big Fan of their Pepper chicken, and Roti Paratha

Good food & service. Dining at Festival India on a Monday evening was very quiet but the food & service was excellent. The rest room very very clean.
Must try the Kerala style fish cooked in banana leaf.
Tried the Ghee roast Masala Dosa. Good but not special. All in all very good.

The best Indian food I've found in perth. Just had another beautiful dinner here, the food was excellent as usual and the service was great. Been here a few time and consistently good. Certainly not expensive by Perth standards.

Getting worse !!!. I used to enjoy the food... But they are getting worse day by day ...the food is getting horrible and they have made everything so expensive ....!!

Great South Indian. This is my frist time writing a review for a restaurent after coming here to Perth. The reason I am writing this review is that I believe good food should always be appreciated. I would regard it as one of my best Indian culinary experience after coming to Perth. The staff here were friendly and courteous and my order was processed quickly. The chettinadu chicken curry and the kerala parrotas were good. I would strongly recommend this restaurent to anyone who would like to try the authentic flavour of Indian cuisine.

Regulars - Great Food Everytime. This is our favourite Indian and we have never had a bad meal here! The staff are very friendly and we love the place.

This is the best Indian around the area, so many other competitors near here that are rubbish,
Downside is they dont deliver. :(
Ravi Mani
Real South Indian taste food. I have enjoyed.

Great food! and this from an Indian that cooks good food herself. One of the few Indian Restaurants in Perth that serves authentic South indian food - I would actally even say cuisine - chefs have worked in 5 and 6 star restaurants overseas and have maintained authenticy whilst adapting some food to the western tongue. Be brave - dont just order the standard butter chicken - order something you have not had before - you wont be dissapointed.
Bats.hus
Nice Authentic South Indian food. I visited this restaurant recently with a couple of friends & really liked the food. Specially the Masala Dosa & the Gobi Machurian as must tries. Also not to forget the Chickoo Milkshake (6 bucks for a glass full)...

Lovely quiet restaurant. I've enjoyed this restaurant every time I've been there. It's quiet, staff are lovely, the decor atmospheric, and most importantly, great food! One of my fave places to eat.
Adam.f.james
Best Indian in Perth. Unreal South Indian food. The pepper chicken is awesome and the breads are amazing. Top notch!
Catherine Livingston
The absolute best Indian food we have ever tasted. We get takeaway from here at least once a week, the chicken chettinadu and the Kerala lamb curry are amazing! We are moving 40 minutes away from this area but will still be coming back for curry!
Pjdavies
Best Indian near Karrinyup. Always great food, brilliant service, family friendly.
Kate
Previously have been impressed but has gone downhill. Flavours nice but curries are pretty much all sauce. Minimal meat/vegies. This makes it feel like a rip-off.
Norbert
Seriously? We don't live in India where access to meat is an issue. Reading through the reviews, My father and I decided to give it a chance, even though the reviews were mixed. It's Friday night and the place is empty. The food is OK at best. I can make a better curry at home with more than 3 pieces of meat. Anghiti blows this out of the water. Don't waste your time or money on this place, unless your on a diet and prefer tiny portions.
Nerissa Rowe
Beautiful fresh rich flavour!. I like Indian food and this was up with the best I've had in Perth - fresh and flavoursome. The menu looked very interesting with lots of South Indian specialties but we were only in the mood for something simple, so ordered a tikka masala and Dahl curry - both were absolutely incredible. The highlight though was the parantha - perfectly cooked and a delicious naan alternative - yum!
Akam
Awesome food , very good service , great choice in menu and well priced
Peter Van
Shocking service ,crap menu you don't get what's on the menu choose any other indian
Andrew Coxall
The size of the takeaway meals tonight were very small. Although the food was tasty we were disappointed with the portion size of the butter chicken and the lamb vindaloo. The butter chicken literally contained 6 small pieces of chicken.
Still hungry and not happy.
Alexandros Floriniotis
Terrific Indian food. You know it's good when your full and eat more.
Great choice in menu and well priced.
Found my new local.
Rachel Lieberfreund
Really Nice. We ordered take-away for the first time a few days ago. We frequently eat at Anghiti , The Punjab etc and have 5 Indian places within a 2 min drive of our house.

The food at Festival India is on par with Anghiti and The Punjab. Flavorful and rich the Dhal Makahi and Paneer were excellent. We also ordered the Paratha which (as a nice surprise) was prepared in a Indian / Malay way similar to Roti Canai !

The Paper Dosa was very nice and the coconut chutney that it comes with is perfect.

The Garlic Nan was ok, probably the weakest part of the meal. If we had the option of getting the Nan from the Punjab, the Palak Paneer from Anghiti and the Dosa and Paratha from Festival it would be the perfect meal.
Reviewperth
I normally get indian from here. I ordered the vegetarian thali meal from festival India, however when I got there the lady said there was no thali meal available, it was still on the menu and it was written on chalk on the board. She said they hadn't updated there menu yet. When I asked for the receipt it was for the same price as the thali meal, however came without the rice and papdams, very bad experience here!
David
Always great takeaway.

Its been 6 months that I am in Perth and was searching for the best South Indian food. Festival India is the best place in Perth to have authentic Indian food. We come here from south perth. We do not mind travelling bcoz the food is so delicious. MUST TRY!!
Annie.xavier
EXCELLENT FLAVOURS. Just loved the food at Festival India. I went there specially to eat south Indian food and I was happy to get what I went for and it was just what I was expecting. Generous quantity at a reasonable price. Good job by the team in the kitchen. Most of the Indian restaurants may have the similar menu but it just lacks taste. But Festival India made my day. I am very happy. I will recommend this place to all my friends and family. Hope to come again soon. Thanks again.
Dawn Rouse
Brilliant. Very authentic food. Great service. Thosais were out of this world. Will keep coming back.

Been to Festival about 6 times now and love the food and service!! We'll be back again and recommend it to everyone! Those haters that talk about slow service.... your obviously going with bad company. Nothing to chat about while the chef and kitchen staff prepare the most amazing dishes?! The food is top quality, flavours to die for and the service is family friendly. Just sing out to the 2 friendliest gentlemen and they are there for what ever you need with the most amazing smiles. Nothing is a ever problem. Go soon! Share this Indian restaurant secret with everyone!

Love it. Good food at a great price. Intimate atmosphere and friendly staff. Keep up the great work :-)

Shocking service. Took my wife for a dinner as it was her birthday, let me tell you it was the biggest mistake!

We had to wait 45 minutes to get one main course and another 15 minutes to get the second one!

Meanwhile i had to ask for extra sambhar 4 times.

Food is average.

Avoid if you can!
Katy
My favourite Indian restaurant in Perth. Ghee Paper rost is the bomb - crispy dosa served with lentils and a coconut sambal. Yum. Chicken tikka masala also best in Perth.

Svādiṣṭa - Tasty. I've been to this restaurant twice now and on both occasions with friends who don't consume Indian food regularly (as a gauge it would be once in 6 months) and from all the verdict was positive in all aspects.
The service was quick and correct and the staff all had a pleasant friendly attitude. We were there before 6.45pm and the place was quiet and only another two groups were there but that all changed fairly quickly after 7.30pm.
The Indian decor was effective and interesting to look at the different pieces on the walls. The toilets were clean and had hand soap at the wash basin, which I feel is important in a restaurant.
The only detraction from this great restaurant is the outdoor setting at the front could do with an upgrade. A must to try if you like Indian cuisine.
Go Seb....

What a gem if a find!!!! W.... What a gem if a find!!!!
We LOVED IT!!!
So much attention to detail ...
the service, attentive friendly staff, food, the décor, the hygiene & cleanliness is excellent (usually my big bug bear with so many restaurants out there)
We will DEFINATELY be back!
Thank you!!

Been there done that... I have been to many restaurants in the Americaas both NORTH & SOUTH but never tasted anything like this... food was great and reasonably priced, a great place to chill out. The service is really good with very friendly staff and owners, who are only too pleased to ensure your visit is perfect..HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF U R A CURRY LOVER!!

Some of the best Indian food in Perth. Amazing food, great service... great place to come to

Not your typical Indian restaurant. Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I've twice eaten at Festival India, and on both occasions I've been very impressed. Delicious food, well-presented, and at a very reasonable price.

It's not your average Indian - it specialises in the regional cuisine of the Malabar coast of south-west India. If you have read (and loved, as I have) Arundhati Roy's 'The God of Small Things' then this is the restaurant for you. This is not the place if you are looking for a generic vindaloo; it's a place for an authentic dining experience.

I always think that you can tell a lot about the authenticity of the cuisine from the patrons of a regional restaurant: the Festival India is always packed with South Indians. It's not a big restaurant - perhaps 60 seats - but it's busy, clean, and the music is just the right level. (I don't know about you, but I hate it when the music is intrusive).

On my most recent visit I started with Masala Dhosa, a crisp rice/lentil rolled pancake stuffed with vegetables and potatoes. The pancake is huge, maybe 60cm across, and the stuffing is smooth, rich, spicy, but not hot. It's a main meal in itself: crunchy pancake with a generous serve of vegetables ($12.50).

Pancakes of various kinds are a feature of the menu; previously I've had the Masala Uthappan ($13.50), described in their menu as "Savoury stuffed (onion, tomato, green chilli & fresh coriander leaves) rice flour pancake". Unlike the Dhosa, this is a soft pancake, and it is a taste sensation.

Of the courses I've had, the meals have been spicy, but not overly hot. Think rich, mouth-filling flavours rather than chilli-burn.

For a main I had Malabar Chicken Curry ($16.00) with Pulao rice ($4.50) and Naan ($4.00). The chicken was delightful: richly flavoured with an onion, tomato, ginger and garlic sauce. The Naan was good, but not great. A little oily.

On my first visit I had the Kerala-style Lamb Curry for my main. Fantastic! Nothing like any other lamb curry I've had, this was a real treat.

I accompanied both meals with Lassi, with salt. If you haven't tried a salt Lassi, I strongly recommend you do. It's entirely different from a sweet Lassi and it complements the richness of the curries.

The only downside of the meals was the wait: both nights it was over 30 minutes before I received my entree.

Superb!. I am glad to see this restaurant serves consistently good Indian fare. The flavours and quality is excellent and the portion sizes very generous. Love that it is also close to me. My partner says it is the best butter chicken he has had. The samosas are traditional, light and crunchy. The masala pappadums are a great accompaniment to the curries and the Keralo parathas are to die for (flakey and buttery). I can't wait to go back again and again! The staff here are also extremely friendly. Loving it!

Where to Start?!. I went to Festival India on a Thursday night with 6 others for dinner. BYO wine, no problem. Where do I start....well, this place far exceeded any expectations I had. It is located in a very ordinary strip of local shops but the food is world class. Service was faultless as well.
We had starters comprising uttapums and vadas, served with the traditional coconut chutney and sambar and it was superb! The vadas are a must try for the uninitiated (and the seasoned vada eaters). We also had the cauliflower starter which was the best I have ever had. Seriously. It should be pointed out that the cauli was saucy and spicy - just the way I like it. definitely don't leave this place without trying it!
On to mains - everything was a winner (I like lamb and don't mind a bit of fat, but others don't) but the real standouts IMO were the Chicken Tikka Masala (smoky taste to it but overall only trumped by 9Mary's Chicken Tikka masala), the Yellow Dahl (perfectly perfect), the chicken with-a-funny-name which I have never seen anywhere but was dry (not saucy), had chunks of coconut through it and strips of chicken. Also, the Channa Masala (chickpeas) was fantastic (ordered some bathura bread with it - yum).
Must try this place. It may not be in a traditional location, but wherever you are, you should definitely make the effort to try it. At the least try the vadas if you already have your favourite place for some of the above listed dishes.....

Awsum food as went to the restaurant couple of days ago enjoyed a lot

REAL INDIAN TASTE , Very Nostalgic !!!!!!!. Been to Perth visiting friends and families.Dined at Festival India, a truly authentic Indian restaurant with friendly staff and fantastic tasty food with very reasonable price.
The flavour and taste is by nostalgic and would highly recommend if you truly an addict for Indian real taste .
Heather
Authentic Indian. Perth is a place for fine dining.the question is what is really constitutes good Indian. The only one stands for authentic taste is Festival India.we been here few times always they keep their standard for serving tasty food. What I always noticed most of the restaurants have been serving same dishes but this one differ from a normal Indian. a humble request "keep your authentic taste always" . Well done guys with your creativity for providing a fabulous ambience and cosy feeling. We will be coming more........
Ckrb
Not your usual Indian. Enjoyed this & will return, good service & food. Plus it is not the usual Indian we get here in Perth. Most of the Indian restaurants here in Perth have pretty much the same items on their menus, not here. Make a nice change.
Coffeeaddict
Love this place!. The meat thali meal is amazing and great value for money. We also tried the masala dosa which was very good too. The staff here are always courteous and helpful. We've only had take away from here but quite keen to dine in as it looks like it has a nice atmosphere.

Awesome Food. The food was really good and authentic.
Tried the malabar chicken curry and it was awesome!!
The masala dosa was pretty good too.

Great!!. Don't really want to write this review as I selfishly would like to keep it a secret. 'This is the second time we dined here and it did not disappoint. Excellent service with wait staff that actually smiled and did their job! Food second to none and all at a very reasonable price. So reasonable that I decided to treat the whole table of nine!
Well done Festival of India.........you are definitely one of the best.
Juls
Korma is far too spicy! :-(
Steven
I have tried many Indian restaurants. Many of them claim to be the best or the most original etc... I stumbled across Festival and was surprised. The interior is warm and cosy. The staff are friendly without being fake. The food is second to none, the flavours are truly Indian.Beautiful presented mains and lovely desserts. The vindaloo is delicious and a bigger than average serve. You cannot go past this restaurant it is well priced compared to others in the area.Make certain you make a booking, every time I have gone its been packed!
Gourmandius
Good kerala curries. Highly recommend the paratha.

Worst old food served. I went to this restaurant , i mostly go to restaurant to taste variety of food but found that where ever i had food specially indian restaurents the waiters atleast were quite happy to serve but the 1st worst service provided indian restaurent in perth is festival india ,ordered butter chicken and biryani found a sour taste in chicken ,felt as if the chicken used were used from the chicken left from yesterday night or they are using frozen food they got from india not freshed cooked ,feel as if they just heat up the fozen food and serve it , request who so ever goes to have food there try to taste it and review it . saaw some reviews but for sure all the reviews are fake except this , coz not at all impressed by the food hope the owner dont write their own reviews
