Review The Freedom Hub Cafe - Palm Beach

James Donison
I stopped by Freedom Hub thinking it was a different cafe that I had a great dining experience in once. It wasn’t, but I was immediately impressed by the layout. I can’t resist a set of comfortable chairs and couches that look out onto a busy Palm Beach footpath. Inside they cater to tables of up to six, and outside two to four. The black and white portraits of women on their wall caught my eye. It would seem Freedom Hub isn’t just a trendy cafe name, they are also in the business of doing good. Each of those portraits tells a story of modern day slavery here in Australia. And although it wasn’t the best coffee I’ve had on the Gold Coast, when I’m in the neighbourhood I’ll keep coming back to contribute to their profits, which 100% goes to helping people in these situations. It also helps that the staff are super friendly. The food looks pretty tasty as well. You can find the menu and their story on their website.

This cafe is one with a conscience. All profits go towards fighting slavery in Australia and the rehabilitation of victims. The cafe coffee rescues child soldiers. All cafe produce is ethical, serving coffees, brekkie and brunch and we couldn’t think of a better place to have a coffee to help the plight of others

Not only the freedom hub serves an amazing tasty creative food, with a great coffee and kind service, but It is also fighting for a good cause. It blows my mind the amazing work they do at the café being so sustainable, ethical and responsible. My Partner and I will come back and recommend to everyone that is looking for something beyond breakfast!

Coffee was good. So nice and lovely. One thing that made us upset was unbearable halloumi, which was extremely salty for both my dish and my partner's.

Delicious vegan muffin. They were pretty busy, but I waited a bit for someone to even say "I'll be with you in a few minutes ".

I used to eat here multiple times a week and love the food and space. Unfortunately there appears to be new management/owner and the simple act of ordering from the menu borders on impossible. We tried to order from the sides menu this morning and were told we couldn’t. The man behind the counter was incredibly rude and we left in shock. We ended up eating at Barefoot Barista where another woman approached us and asked if we’d just been at Freedom Hub. Turns out she was also appalled by the poor service and went elsewhere. I hope something changes but after personally having three bad experiences over the past couple of months, I won’t be returning again.
