Review Earl Of Leicester Hotel - Parkside

Have always wanted to go to the Earl. You won't be disappointed. Fantastic place. Cozy. Burgers were excellent. Service was great. Really glad we dropped in. We will definitely be back. Plenty of different beers to try. A great day đŸșđŸș🙂

Always enjoyed food here but haven't been for around a year. The 600gm chicken schnitzel is epic, but make sure you choose one of the various toppings - can highly recommend the sweet chilli. Pizza is great, wings are great but would have liked more sauce (Korean style is best when they are drenched in sauce but these were dry with a small amount of dipping sauce). The desserts are all lovely as well.

Nice 600g beef Schnitty with meat lovers topping!!! And yes I ate the lettuceđŸ€ was full after this one. Washed it down with a couple beers. Mrs had the barramundi which was nice also. Busy place on Friday night which is always a good sign if there are plenty of people around. Great diverse menu, would recommend a feed here in the back streets of Parkside.

Crunchiest onion rings. Love them. The entree garlic bread was also tasty and very crunchy. 600g Schnitzel was less crunchy but still tasty. Paired with a yummy mushroom sauce. Fries were really addictive and crunchy too. They fry things up well here. Decent portion as well. Definitely can share between 2. Buffalo wings were also crunchy and the aioli sauce was the bomb

There is a wide range of choice on the menu with reasonable prices.. My choice of Shepherds Pie with root vegetables was disappointing. No root vegetables except small diced carrot and a few peas in the mince. Flavour was insipid. Others at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Those who ate the Coopers Ale Pie praised the filling and the light as air puff pastry. The fish also received a thumbs up. Desserts sounded delightful a twist on old English staple puddings. The service was polite and efficient. I would go again and try something different.

I'm a local and eat here two or three times a year. It's a lovely old English style pub that had a welcoming open fire when I arrived earlier on this chilly autumn evening. I had an eye fillet steak which was a bit chewier than usual but otherwise very tasty. My desert was excellent and the plaxce offers a good range of beers and wines. Built some 170 years ago this is a relatively small, stone-walled pub comprising several rooms on different levels. Recommended.

Great traditional English pub with friendly atmosphere and a roaring fireplace. Food was brilliant, but would avoid the schnitzel - was too dry. Bit tricky to get a drink at the long bar, but selection was worth the wait.

A great spot for Sunday roast. The Yorkshire pudding was perfect and not dry. We had one of each meat and they were all good but pork was the best. Make a booking if you want to sit in the quiet dining room but the atmosphere by the fire in the bar is better.

The menu is quite extensive for a hotel and the food we ordered was very promptly brought to our table. Delicious. Quite a nice wine list. The ambience in the dining room is very pleasant. Staff are all helpful, pleasant and knowledgable. Two good parking areas on either side of premises which is a huge bonus

Raw chicken parmigiana. No thanks. Staff were lovely, salad bar was nice and onion rings probably the best I’ve had. Unfortunately when you cut into a chicken parmigiana and it is pink and cold inside, it’s kind of off-putting. They did give me a refund which I was grateful for. Hopefully this is not a regular occurrence and others enjoy their meals here because it is s lovely place.

Helpful and friendly staff. Had a great time at the salad bar which had a fantastic selection of salad-y things so would go back for more of that

Great restaurant, outstanding food and customer service.  Just three suggestions for management:<br/>1)  When staff are cleaning tables with spray cleaner - while others are still eating their meal - this becomes airborne and takes away from the ambience of your venue & aroma of your food.  Stop it already.<br/>2)  Completely remove canola oil from your kitchen.  It causes a broad range of serious health issues.  Read Dr. Mercola dot com. Research this toxic, solvent based oil.<br/>3)  Upholstery needs cleaning.<br/><br/>Addendum to Review:  I have since returned to this establishment only to be incredibly disappointed with the 'zero care factor' attitude of a few of their staff when I expressed concern about poor service.  Nothing has been done about the grotty upholstery and to make matters worse they have some perfume aerosol being pumped out of the a/c vents in the dining room which reminds me of a seedy hotel I once had to stay in with college friends on a road trip.  How to wreck a perfectly good pub...

Celebrated Mother In Laws 85th Birthday with the family.<br/>Ordered two fish and chips, one barramundi, one small beef and one huge chicken schnitzel.<br/>Prior to coming read the reviews on Zomato and would have to says we were a bit intrepid about coming to the Earl after reading them.<br/>How wrong they were - everyone really enjoyed their meals, so much so that comments such as “best ever battered fish” were made. The large chicken schnitzel was huge but moist and cooked to perfection and chips were tasty. Check the photo - size comparison is the butter sachet next to the plate.<br/>Salad bar was excellent with standouts being the capsicum, artichokes, olives, quinoa, and pumpkin - so tasty.<br/>Service was friendly and prompt but not in your face.<br/>Meals were definitely value for money.<br/>I would have no hesitation recommending the Earl of Leicester for a decent pub meal.

PUB FOOD<br/>Lovely old stone building with on site parking and good service.<br/>I had the swordfish special & was surprised to be asked how I wanted it cooked: rare, medium or well-done. I opted for medium & the densely packed flesh was a little rubbery. It was served with a pumpkin & taleggio crepe plus a fancy salad. He had shepherds pie which was tasty & filling. She had the fish & chips & cleared her plate. We also used the salad bar which satisfied us. For afters she & I shared the hot chocolate & peanut butter pudding with banana ice-cream - it was delish.

We came here for the Wednesday quiz night so we enjoyed our meals in the front bar. The meals came a little slow but considering the amount of orders the kitchen did well. The food was yummy, your typical no fuss pub grub.

Service was really poor, wait staff totally not interested in service, girl taking my order cut me off mid sentence to speak to another staff member. Food was awful, dry bland burgers & overcooked chips. Only saving grace was a nice cocktail and good cider on tap.

Visited recently for a quick meal and decided we couldn't go past the schnitzel for dinner. The portion was more than adequate even though I chose the small size and it was tasty, as was the mushroom sauce I decide to have with it. The side salad was nice too with olive, feta and radish but the chips were ok and not overly crunchy. Prices on the higher end but the lovely warm wood open fire that was burning and the cosy, warm charm of the place helped me look past this. Popular with locals, book early to avoid not getting a table.

Haven't been to the Leicester for a while, used to come semi regularly to eat one of their notoriously large snittys until the point of illness. I know what I'm getting into. I arrived to notice they had redone with bistro area and dining room. It all looked quite nice, warm atmosphere and service was very good. Ordered food and that's where things unravelled. They have always had a salad bar, the size of it has shrunk by about half and is probably of worse quality. Also, no damn beetroot. I rely on the beetroot to cut through the thick, greasy, cheesy schnitzel. Food arrived. It was still massive, as always. Flavours were ok, nothing dazzling. One of the snittys were raw in the middle, another in our party had three tiny ones making up a full size snitty. Very strange. The raw one was pretty screwed up, hopefully that was a one off.

My last experience at the Leicester was the final landing off a long, steep, slippery slope downhill since this pub's glory days about 15 years ago, and I won't be returning. The food is in decline for sure. But the service was the real clanger. The same tired, bored & disinterested faces whose enthusiasm for hospitable service is now in negative territory. The barman's thrill was to provide hot chilli sauce when asked for tomato sauce.... the 'liar's bar', right? OK we get the joke, but it ain't funny, and it didn't add to our dining experience. Time to bring this wonderfully located pub into the 21st century.
Laura
Boring, outdated and dank. The menu could really do with a face lift, as could the venue. So dark and uninviting. I definitely wouldn't be heading back.

I will never be back to this place.. Ever! Food is actual gross. Avoid this pub if you can. The service is very bad also. The place has gone down hill

Most people associate The Earl of Leicester with schnitzel. Good large schnitzels with a plethora of topping choices. What many don't know is their beer list is as big as their schnitzels. On this particular night, I was about to sample even more potential additions to the list. I was lucky enough to attend the Beer Degustation Dinner they hosted recently, truly a dream for any bloke - elegant man food paired with beer.  The event was graced with the presence of three breweries namely Beavertown Brewery from the UK, Victory Brewing Company from the USA and NomadBrewing Company from NSW. I arrived by Uber and got picked up after, let the night begin! Tablets set and ready. Good turnout for this special event The menu, for your envy

Tasty Schnitzels. I have come to this restaurant frequently. My friends love the schnitzels here so I always tag along with them. <br/><br/>Great atmosphere, the staff are really polite and helpful. Also restaurant has two separate dining places. One at the pub side and in the bistro side. Normally we eat at the pub but this time we were at the bistro which was a good choice. Because it does cramped in the pub side of it and if your coming with a large group of friends you should be at the bistro because it's a large space that can accommodate everyone. But if your coming in 3's or 4's, dining at the pub side is alright. <br/><br/>Now onto the schnitzels. It's a no brainer that I only come for the schnitzels here at this restaurant. They are known for excellent quality schnitzels here. And yes they do not disappoint! I always go for the 600g schnitzels since I have got a big appetite. They come in 300g as well for the light eaters. The flavours I have tried are the Italian and Chorizo on Top of the Schnitzels. Both are excellent flavours in taste and quality. You feel very satisfied at the end of it. <br/><br/>But beware, if it's a crowded house your order will take time. I knows ours took a while but we didn't wait for as long as we thought we would. The only negative I would say is the price for the schnitzels are a bit expensive. I can go to another pub place and still get a 600g schnitzel for cheap. But if your willing to pay a bit extra and won't mind about the money then this place is for you to get a great quality schnitzel with delicious toppings. <br/><br/>Overall - 8/10
Adam
Took nearly an hour for our meal and absolutely no apology, just blaming us for ordering at the sane time as the bistro. One of the meals was cold. Schnitzel mainly batter, over priced and definitely quantity over quality. Will not return by choice.
Kaylene
I wouldn't feed the so called famous schnitzel to my dog! Chips were like rubber too! Don't get me started on the salad bar!!!

Easy to please Nanna. Disappointed with the quality extra thick crumb coatings on the schnitzels calamari tough as boots soup on the menu board was different to what was served <br/>We had not been in a while found out later patrons in the last few months said the standard has really dropped

Bad, bad food quality...never again. I have just had lunch at the Earl of Leicester and it has been the worst meal i have ever had...ever. And I have had some real shockers. Firstly, we had rung up earlier to book a table but when we arrived their was no waitress to ask where to sit. There were many customers just standing around waiting to be seated. Having one staff member on the bar at peak time on a sunday lunch is another pitfall. They do have a salad bar, but the quality was very lacking. What seemed to be white coles bread was stale and the salads comprised of canned beans and poorly made pastas. The bistro was packed...but I see a 45 minute wait for 3 simple dishes as unacceptable. By the time they arrived I wasn't even hungry, nor in the mood to eat, anymore. I ordered the plain chicken schnitzel. I had read good reviews and had eagerly waited to try the meal...but was bitterly disappointed. The chicken was heavy, greasy and pink in parts. The fish and chips meal was far worse. It was practically inedible as they were several bones found in it. The chips for both meals were over salted and greasy as well. Very poor quality food and average service...would never return.

We went based on the food reviews in the bistro but unfortunately could not seem to get past the ageing bistro. Food was ok, I've had better schintzels and the burger would have been a lot nicer with a better bun rather than one our of a tip top bag.

Worst garlic bread I have ever had very average !!!

Go for the schnitzels. Went for lunch, huge servings, nicely crumbed, not oily all hot and fresh, partner got the ribs and they were ok,salad bar nice and fresh, would go back for the schnitzels for sure.Gravys and toppings were good too.
Off The Street
Disappointed. We had to have the schnitzels, one beef with pepper sauce on the side and the other kilpatrick. We have no complaints about the taste of the beef in their schnitzel, or the thin-ness of the meat – it should be thin, but the crumbing was way tooo thick, it spoilt the meal. Some people might like their schnitzels with 4mm crumbing on each side of 2mm meat in the middle. We don’t. You can hardly taste the beef through the thick cludgy coating. The chips were a little cold, but otherwise bog standard pub chips. A serve of garlic bread was promptly delivered but the thin smear of butter on only one side of the toasted bread did not have anywhere near enough garlic, and there was not enough butter so the bread was like dry toast. The pepper sauce had a good base, but hardly any pepper flavour, the Kilpatrick topping was a little sickly and was scraped to the side. The salad bar was selection is basic, but fresh and OK. Best part of the meal was the Black Chook Pinot Grigio!

Quality pub food. The serves are enormous at the Earl of Leicester and importantly the food is also of a great standard. I enjoyed the porterhouse steak with a side of mushroom sauce and vegetables. If I was to have one gripe with the evening, this is the first pub I have ever been to that wouldn't let me substitute chips for vegetables so I had to pay extra to have vegetables and no chips. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed my steak and the remainder of the table also enjoyed their dishes (several enormous parmigiana's were eaten!). In terms of the ambience I would say that the bistro is a little bit dated (carpet needs to be replaced) but it's so busy in there you barely notice. I may return next time I am in Adelaide.

Schnittylicious!!!. Love the schnitzels that these guys pump out. I've been coming here for the passed 5 years and I'll continue to come back. Bloody good!
Mirror
Bistro a bit tired, snittys pretty good although I had the chorizo topping and the chorizos themselves were very bland. Nice enough staff. Overall average.
Jonathan
Fantastic chicken Parmi, I come back time and time again. The price is very good as you only have to pay an extra 3 dollars and you get a large and trust me to say a large is worth it. I highly recommended this place for any night of the week!

Seriously disappointed at The Earl. Our family has been wanting to go back to the Earl after a great lunch for Dad's 60th a few years ago..so we went for my & my twin sisters b'day last week. After waiting at the counter for a while to order, we then had to ask a disinterested staff member where our meals were nearly an hour later. In the meantime we helped ourselves to the picked over very basic salads. When our meals arrived, I was presented with a small dried up piece of chicken with a tiny drizzle of aioli, a small hard risotto cake & pile of plain spinach leaves thrown on the plate. I could barely cut the chicken & couldn't eat it. Two of the schnitzels were fatty & gristly. The only decent meal was Mums garlic prawns. I asked for my money back, had an offer to choose something else from the menu but I declined. We were all so disappointed with the food, waiting, salad bar & poor service, not to mention the tired looking dining room with thread bare carpet. The only nice thing was the overpriced bottle of wine.Would not recommend The Earl at all.

If you like tasteless cold snitzels and a very average salad bar then The Earl is the place for you. Unfortunately for me I like my snitzels hot. The snitzels are very large and the plain snitzels we're apparently ok, my wife and daughter had one each). <br/><br/>The dining room has two distinct areas so why sit us next to screaming children, I am a parent and understand but please just a little separation would be nice. <br/><br/>Summary <br/>Food - Poor<br/>Service - ok when you can get their attention<br/>Decor - Pub standard<br/>Value - Very good <br/>Will I return, not if I can help it.<br/><br/><br/>-----10 Mar, 2013-----<br/><br/>Snitty was large and the kilpatrick topping was good but actual chicken was thin. Next time will get the normal size one. Will I go there again, yes.
Vicky Brooks
Parmi's are massive and looked nice but anything else is a bit pittiful. I had Salmon which was ok but nothing special, could have done better myself! Salad bar was poor.

Went in there today. Wow - $10.50 for a small pint of Heniken!!! Sic<br/>Rip off

Themed front bar is fantastic - Great service, large range of international & local beer. Brilliant shnitzels with great toppings.

Why bother?. The Earl of Leicester is a beautiful pub - on the outside. Inside it's uninterested staff, tawdry interior, a decidedly dodgy looking salad bar and bad pub food. Adelaide does food so well, there is no excuse for a pub like this. Go elsewhere.
Pub Munch
Unlucky for some. I’d been telling Significant Other for ages that we should go to the Earl – I love the interior and the beer list. However, when we got there, the trivia night was on – and so there was no room at the inn.<br/><br/>But lo, what was that light and sound coming from the end of the car park? The “casual and affordable Lucky Leicester’s Bistro and Gaming Lounge”! We were saved!<br/><br/>A charming and attractive waitress barged past us and ignored us resolutely for a couple of minutes before pointing in the direction of a table. Sidestepping the butter wrapper on the floor, and almost sitting on the smooshed remains of something, we took our seats and admired the venue. It was a vision in bright mustard paint and teal chairs, with a worn carpet -a testament to the number of hungry gamblers it has acommodated over the years. We had a great view of a service trolley that staff kept the dirty rags they used to wipe down tables.<br/><br/>The salad bar was dull and unimaginative – the sort of Aunt Sharon would serve up at her soirees in 1985. Mango and sweetcorn? Exotic eh! When my ribs arrived, they were covered in a great sticky bbq glaze, and weren’t too fatty. However, the ‘potato skins ‘ on the side turned out to be deep fried potato peelings. Alright – I concede that technically they are potato skins – but it just wasn’t what I was expecting for $19. Similarly, the burgers weren’t good value – not a lot in them, on buns that required a bit of resuscitation from Aunt Sharon’s glass bowls of self-serve condiments.<br/><br/>Time to cut your losses, Lucky Leicester.

Great beer range, awful food. This is the sort of pub that would have been the 'cool' place to go 10 years ago. Ridiculous sized greasy schnitzels, terrible burgers, and stupidly sized servings of soggy chips is what this place is all about. The menu hasn't changed in years and needs a revamp - badly!<br/><br/>Had a steak sandwich recently and it was absolutely disgusting. Almost no filling between two ridiculously thick (over 1 inch) pieces of bread. Impossible to eat by hand, and almost impossible with cutlery. This is in the 'Liars Bar'. I can't recommend the actual restaurant due to the aged, RSL feel and pokie sound, cigarette stink of the place. <br/><br/>The beer range and menu is incredibly extensive, however probably one of the priciest places to get a beer in Adelaide. They jacked up their prices during the boom times, and never brought them down. Their beer 'specials' are more like regular prices anywhere else.<br/><br/>Avoid if you want good food for a reasonable price. Simple.

Great pub. Earl of Leicester is such a friendly pub who also make great food. <br/>Their meals are big and affordable & especially love their salad bar. We are regulars.

Schnitters from heaven. Its been 5 years since my last visit to SA and the Earl but their schinnetters are still awesome. My collegue took the challenge of eating two large ones and succeeded, me, i just managed a single. Truely one of the best in australia, keep up the great work.<br/>ps. Happy birthday Coopers.
Eva
Disappointing. It was disappointing to say the least. The food took over 50 minutes to come, quite sad for only 3 DRY schnitzels. It wasn't that busy at the time. During the wait we had to occupy ourselves with the salad bar which was, quite boring. Six 'salads' of plain lettuce, plain tomato, pasta salad, potato salad and beetroot.
RobFTOcrew
Disappointed!. I love this place BUT recently have been really disappointed! What's happened to the Ribs? They were dry and had no BBQ sauce on them? I had ordered them as take away and noticed they were without the normal generous serving of the delicious BBQ sauce! So I went back and asked for some, I was given this thin tasteless liquid that I think was the juices from cooking the ribs! That's twice now! The thick, sticky rib sauce made that dish! Bring it back!

Special night out. Took half an hour to serve a bowl of cold wedges, when it was asked before mains. New serve delivered just before mains<br/>Main course though was good, well presented and hot<br/>Could do with a faster service and staff that are a bit more on the ball.

Big drink, big feast. One of South Australia's little treasures. The food is good for pub grub, their famous schnitzels are deservedly so, and the range of beer is outstanding with many of my favourites German and Belgian often on hand.
Skujam
Schnitzel good, ribs ok. Had a meal at the leicester last night, had the ribs in the bistro, wonderful value at just 16 bucks. The only problem was the BBQ sauce smothered all over them, it was an odd blend of fennel, BBQ sauce and what tasted like HP sauce, truly the ribs would have been better without it.
Foodie
Love this place!. My friend brought me here because they have "the best schnitzels in Adelaide" and who am I to argue? I have yet to find a schnitzels as tasty as the schnitzels are the Earl. I've tried just about every topping on the chicken schnitzel including plain and they are all delicious! (I don't like steak schnitzels so I can't comment on that!) And they are HUGE! I'm talking ridiculously large... they have the "Liar" size and the "Liarette" size which is about half the size. My friend and I go about once a week and struggle to split the Liarette size every time, and believe me, we can eat!<br/><br/>The Beer Legends is such a fun challenge, a bit pricy, but a really good reason to try beers you wouldn't usually try. Wednesday night is the time to come and join in on the Comedy Trivia. Heaps of fun with chances to win beer throughout! How can you complain about that! I DEFINITELY recommend the Earl of Leicester! :)

Parmi not as amazing as I had anticipated. The search 4 best parmi continues!

Wow. And not in a good way. Great beer list, pity the staff have no idea about anything on it. Yes the schnizels are huge, but bland and tasteless with equally tasteless toppings. The front barnis a dive full of hobos and knobs. The restaurant was well overly complex for a pub, to the point of seeming pretentious. The bistro is the same food as the front bar but it costs more because it has a crappy salad bar? Super! Bad inattentive staff, bad food, bad wine list, personality devoid decor... And I had heard such good things...
Adam
Fantastic schnitzels!. Believe everything you hear about the schnitzels here.<br/><br/>We visited the Earl a couple of weeks ago and ordered a chicken schnitzel kilpatrick, and another schnitzel with sour cream, sweet chilli, and bacon. The range of flavours and toppings you can choose from is quite large and diverse.<br/><br/>The servings were massive, the taste was great and the toppings were amazing. Also got a large side serve of chips included with our meals.<br/><br/>The salad bar, however, I was less than impressed with. Nonetheless with the main meal attraction being so impressive, it didn't bother me too much.<br/><br/>Definitely worth a look if you're after an old fashioned decent size pub meal.
Danko
Best beer list in adelaide friendly bar staf and great ribs. Pull up a bar stoll and prtend your on the set of Cheers!

Always good!. We have been going to the Earl for many years as the menu pleases all palates from the older people to the teenagers in the family. Famously huge schnitzels - bet you cant finish one!
Conquistador De Amor
2nd biggest and best parmy's in Adelaide.. Salad bar is small but good, and the service is great.
Gary Bourman
Pretty poor service indeed. We walked in and were ignored by the serving staff for aboUt 15 minutes. Then sneered at when we dared to air we hasn't booked. We're left standing by the smary faced waitress for another fifteen minutes waiting to be notified of a table would be ready. Ended up walking out in disgust and won't be back.

This pub's reputation is serving large portions of schnitzels. Their Chicken Parmi's come in a range of toppings with a reasonable cost on top. This pub is normally pretty busy during anytime of the week and weekend, so best to make a reservation before dining.

At the Earl of Leicester Hotel.<br/><br/>Before I'm seated, I'm warned that there are no schnitzels in here. I've been mistaken for some schnitzel-munching yobbo. :(<br/><br/>I am, in fact, a fine cuisine-munching yobbo.
Adelaidefoodcentral
The pub has a lot of old world charm with good use of dark wood and an exposed timber roof. This place has a reputation for serving up large schnitzels.
Twohungryitalians
I enjoyed my meal at the Earl and was not disappointed. I'm sure if we came back at another time not the week before Christmas we wouldn't have a problem with wait times, which were the only real let down today. The only thing I was missing was a pillow to have a nap to sleep off that massive meal!
Parmi Guide
...the Parmi wasn’t the un-conquerable monster it once was. Pleasingly any reduction there may be in size has also resulted in an improved taste. The schnitzels seem slightly thicker than before and of far better flavour. Mine was slightly burnt around the edges which did detract from the dish but being as though they are still quite large th

A friend of mine recommended me to drop by this place as he reckons it is quite good value for money and customer service here is not only efficient but friendly. And that's what I did. Went here for my brother's birthday, for a change in atmosphere as compared to your usual pub food dining areas. I have always been a fan of eating food whilst watching TV shows (although it didn't help me lose weight at all!) but nevertheless, was fortunate to get a table with a nice view of the plasma TV. Had a brief update on the current news while waiting for our mains to arrive:) The bistro menu is not too extensive and it was easy to locate our favourites. I have to admit that I did not do much research about this place prior to arriving and little did I know that they have a salad bar available for diners. You can refill your plate at no cost and the vegetarian and cold pasta salads were yummy appetizers. Slices of bread and butter were also included but we did not want to be too filled up prior

I kid you not. This place has the best schnitzels ever .

Famous or infamous, depending on who you ask, one thing the locals agree on here is that size matters. You might want to start small. I won't assume to know what impresses your friends, but sooner or later the mind games begin.

There are two eating areas at the Earl of Leicester Hotel , Leicester St., Parkside. Liars' Restaurant & Courtyard is good for fine dining and an extensive menu and Lucky Leicester's Bistro for quick meals and the salad bar. The hotel is famous for its hu
