Review Lachlan's Old Government House - Parramatta

Roawiel Stronghammer
We held our wedding and reception at this venue and we could not have been any happier. We were unlucky enough to have had to reschedule several times over the past two years due to the pandemic. Martin and the team were nothing but accomodating and helpful. There are many beautiful spots we could choose for the ceremony and it was set up beautifully with care and attention. We asked for a high tea for our reception and we have nothing but praise and compliments from all our guests on the quality of the food and the promptness and care of the staff. Thank you for all Your hard work and for making it such a wonderful event!

Visited here for the first time with a group of friends. The place is beautiful. Really liked that there was on-site parking because Parramatta is a pain to find parking at times. The staff was lovely. The food was filling and they were able to cater to our different dietary needs, but would love to see a bigger variety of teas. Overall it was a good environment and had a lovely time.

We had a bridal shower in the private marquee at Lachlan's Old Government House, and it was absolutely beautiful. Martin was very responsive to all communications prior to the event, and the service and staff on the day were excellent. Everyone at the bridal shower loved the high tea, the beautiful set up in the marquee and grounds. Will definitely be back for another event or to try out the restaurant.

Excellent! We had a party of 16 for high tea on 24th April 22, the venue was great, we were given our own private room. The high tea was lovely, especially the scones, we had a lot of food left over and the waitresses gave us take away boxes to take the food home. Our waitress was lovely and did not rush us at all. Price was very reasonable for a high tea. Everyone was very happy with the venue, we can highly recommend Lachlan's Old Gov house

Great service! We had our staff Christmas / farewell / birthday lunch here and it was such a lovely experience. The whole venue and the outdoor seating area is beautiful. As soon as we sat down we were instantly relaxed and time slowed down to what felt like a long and lazy Sunday brunch. The service was fantastic, friendly and so much attention to detail. The food was delicious and the desserts were spectacular! Thank you for making our staff lunch so relaxing and memorable.

I had a wonderful birthday yesterday at Lachlan’s Old Government House. A delicious high tea was served after receiving a lovely greeting from Phill and his “young” colleague. Our champagne, orange juice and selection of teas were wonderful as was the beautifully set table and fine china. The gentlemen were so friendly and kind, even offering to take photos for us to help celebrate the occasion. We were even given chocolates as we left. I can’t speak more highly of our beautiful day. Thank you all.

Lovely time celebrating my Bridal Shower at Lachlan's Old Government House. Martin and the team were very helpful during planning and setting up the marquee on the day. Beautiful marquee room, with everything included from table cloths, napkins, crockery etc. Standard High Tea selection with Scones, sandwiches, sweet tarts and warm quiches. Various Tea options, coffee, juice and sparkling included. Our package went for 2.5 hours but could have easily used and extra 30 mins-1 hour. Also would have liked some more hot selections but overall, a really lovely day and would recommend.

Unfortunately didn't get to try the food here. I went in on a Sunday to book my 50th birthday. The event organiser, Martin, told me there was availability on the day and time I asked for and for the number of guests (up to 20). He showed me the dining room and the menu and gave me his business card. I emailed the next day to confirm the booking in writing after confirming the final number with my friends. Around 24 hours later he phones me and says the venue is booked that whole weekend. He denies ever having spoken to me, even though I reminded him I came into the restaurant personally and spoke to him about my 50th. Shocking customer service.

Beautiful grounds for a wedding. Food was overrated though. Actually, not good. Fish was undercooked and the lamb had an unusual taste. There were quite a few of us for the night and had these two as alternating dishes. Almost everyone in the group did not enjoy their main dish.

I came here for a bridal shower in a marquee and it was lovely. Service was good and the high tea was really good. The garden is nice to take photos with friends. Loved the small pies and the scones with cream and jam. Yum!

I came here for a bridal shower and we had the high tea. While the high tea didn't blow me away, the setting of old government house within Parramatta Park is lovely and the service was friendly.

Recently attended a reception in the Marquee. It was a cold night and although the area was warm on arrival that soon changed. There was a constant cold draft. Due to health problems I have to have a vegan diet. The food presented to me was terrible! My main course was what they called vegetable soup. Hot water with a few bits of over cooked zucchini and far too much chilli and pepper. I just couldn't eat it.
I was offered nothing for desert. I was charged the same price as everyone else and we booked our table at the same time as everyone else so the caterers has about 2 months to organise food.
I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Service was bad.

I had my wedding in the Marquee at Lachlans and was so impressed with the food and service. Absolutely delicious everything I ate. The waiters were attentive and delightful. The historical location provides the backdrop for an ambient lunch or dinner and I cannot wait to go back here again.

Poor gluten free offering. Came to Lachlan's yesterday (16 May) for high tea. Thought that the venue and service for the most part was nice, but the food was terrible.
I have suffered from Coeliac disease for a number of years, and the quality of gluten free options has greatly increased in that time. Given that it has for the most part improved, I was very disappointed with what was offered today
- sandwiches on stale bread
- chopped tomatoes and onions
- a rice flour scone that was chewy in texture (just placed in the middle of all of the other scones, not very considerate of contamination)
- strawberries
Not only was this offering poor, but to then be told that they had run out of gluten free floretines because of the number of other Coeliac's that had already been that day was disgraceful given that this had been booked over 2 weeks in advance.
Not only will I not be returning to Lachlan's, but will discourage others from going there also.

Only average unfortunately as lovely location and menu. Four of us ate for lunch today , a last minute booking as my dad flew over from NZ to help me celebrate my 40th - always wanted to go here so we thought we'd give it a try. Menu looked great and there were some highlights (soft shell crab, pork belly) but most of the food was average for the price ($20 entrees, $40 mains). Service was very relaxed to the point of a little over friendly. Small things when you're paying these prices can make a big difference - not once was our water refilled without having to ask, our wine was plonked in an ice bucket and never refilled, The lot of tea I ordered with dessert (very dry chocolate slice) was simply a teabag in a small metal pot.
It was also a particularly chilly autumn day and nothing was provided to help keep us warm on the balcony, no heaters, no blankets.
So for nealry $80 a head, excluding drinks, I would recommend elsewhere.

Lachlan’s is set in the picturesque Parramatta Park, on the site of Old Government House. I absolutely adored this place from the moment I walked in as history and good food are two of my most favourite things. Lachlan’s, named after Governor Lachlan Macquarie, is both a café and a restaurant. For casual dining there is the breakfast menu which includes a champagne list, high tea and a light lunch menu. Or there is the more formal Al A Carte menu. The breakfast menu offers a range of options to suit everyone. Ethan opted for the traditional Hot English Breakfast with toast, sausage, bacon, friend eggs, tomato and mushrooms. The generous serving was lightly drizzled with balsamic vinegar and looked incredible. I ordered the grilled mushrooms a

Rudeness & 5 star bad service. We booked a table of 11 and when we arrived we politely told them after we waited for quite a while that 2 of our friends cancelled and there are now only 9 of us eating. The room we sat in was cold, dark and no heating on a winters day. The sandwiches where cold & the tea was served as tea bags in a container with jugs of hot water. We ordered wine & they didn’t even open the bottle for us. We received our bill & they charged us for 11 & rudely told us they would not change it. I would never ever go there again and for a bill of $500 it was a horrible experience. As you can guess no tip was left.

A wasted oportunity given the location.. We were there to see an exhibition in the house.
For light lunch food was ok (very nice wedges), but service dreadful.
First I got the impression that we should eat at the coffee bar outside, as the 'resturant" was for those ordering a substantial meal. We were shown to a table in a small room (2nd class to the verandah or other inside tables). While we were there other customers were given a table in our room by one waitress to be moved to a different table by a waiter for no apparent reason. After waiting for the bill for 15mins, I went to pay, and was virtually accused of trying to leave without paying by the "gentleman" who suggested we eat elsewhere and moved the other patrons.

A lovely venue, but wouldn't come back in a hurry. We paid $45 per person for high tea. We were sat in a hot stuffy room to the side with no AC, served instant coffee and given quite a small amount of very mediocre food. Definitely not worth the money or the drive, disappointing

Crap. Two of us went to this restaurant on a Friday evening as it was in the entertainment book and looked like it had a yummy menu. Despite there being only 6 people in the entire restaurant (3 tables of couples) the service was incredibly slow. The waiter took his time socialising / chatting with another table while we waited for about 10 mins for him to bring us the menus. The food was served lukewarm. Kangaroo was overcooked. Portion size for the scallops main was ridiculous - 8 scallops and a couple of tablespoons of cauliflower puree - $36.90! Don't bother.

Absolutely awful... Crab and polenta cake entree was polenta and capsicum, barely a hint of crab, it might have been there but I couldn't taste it. Eye fillet main was ordered rare and was served medium well! Pork fillet main was dry and cold. The service was appalling we were all but ignored, waitstaff didn't top wine glasses ever and looked confused when asked to do so... And acted like we were lying when we complained about the quality of the food. Will never come back here and strongly discourage others from dining at this venue. It is a real shame that such a beautiful part is Sydney's history is ruined by this blight of cullinary abuse.

Lovely setting with a beautiful outlook to the park - but not a place for coffee, unless you have a liking for thermonuclear milk temperature.

-----09 Jun, 2012-----

Lovely setting but not a place for coffee, unless you have a liking for thermonuclear milk temperature.
