Review Port Bar Restaurant - Parramatta

Cher Bear
Sitting alongside the river, this restaurant is a nice change of pace from the hustle, bustle, and traffic noise of the other places along Church Street. The food is good and the service was even better. Port Bar has more wait staff and they are much more attentive than the staff of other restaurants I've tried. It was nice to actually get a refill on my water. The Tiramisu was delicious!

This restaurant has a great of view of the river. It's also a good spot to people watch and contemplate the universe. I have been here for breakfast a few times and I have walked away satisfied each time. The staff are very professional and prompt in taking orders. The menu is standard modern Australian. Nothing special. The meals are large and the added extras are even BIGGER. The extras are very expensive, but they are also massive. The extras are served on seperate plates because they are so large. Prices here are on the higher side, but not unusually so. Worth stopping in. Coffee is good too!

Good place to spend the evening near the river. Food was delicious. Definitely a place you can visit regularly

We really enjoyed it here. We came on a Sunday night about 5pm. The price was reasonable with decent portions. The staff were great and it didnt take long to receive our meals. Recommended for sure! The food tasted great! Will definitely come back again. Only slight downside were the bathrooms as you had to walk outside then back in to get to them. But not to much of a issue.

I'm visiting Port Bar every time when I want to be full. Very friendly atmosphere, quite well variety of dishes and almost all people are locals. All dishes are huge size and so tasty. I recommended this place.

Had a great time. The staff were very attentive and the food fantastic. Will go again I hope. Had bruschetta, antipasto plate and volcano pizza. We didn't leave anything.

A below average breakfast experience, ordered the salmon breakfast pizza it was very watery and also order the mushroom omelette it was quite bland. Although a nice view and friendly service.

Two stars, instead of one, just because its riverside location is quite appealing. However, service is poor, kitchen is sluggish, and the final bill is far too expensive! Moreover, the chicken I ordered must have managed to run off prior to reaching my table, as my "chicken salad" had none in it. First and last time at the PBR.

My first time to this restaurant as I found this restaurant through the Entertainment Book m. Food is pretty good and pretty big portion. The staff were attentive and pretty have with the customer service. The only thing is when we first get there the plates were pretty dirty/dusty and we have to asked staff to changed it all.

What a disappointment! People have been telling me to go there, but it’s just the location by the river that draws people. It’s certainly not the food quality. it was fast service, but the salad was so oily it dripped from the lettuce and the chicken so dry it was flavourless. Nice sunny day though.

Quite enjoyed the food here and location is fantastic. Be careful of mosquitos at night though!<br/>If you'd like to read more of my reviews, please check out my Zomato page and visit @cynthiaeats_ on Instagram for more photos!

I have given this place chance after chance and I never leave wanting more. While the location is beautiful, the food is mediocre at best. The service can be a miss too, waiters can take a while to come and serve you. <br/>Also don’t get the pesto pasta, it may as well be olive oil soup. Big turn off when your penne is literally swimming in olive oil.

I waited for 15 minutes before walking up to the bar for the menu when I was told that they would get the menu to my table. I waited for another 15 minutes for the menu and no one came. Sometimes food joints make up for average food with great service. I didn’t get to taste the food so can’t comment on that as I left before someone remembered my request. As for the service I didn’t get any as well so rated it low. The view is great, no free WiFi.

Today is our wedding anniversary, and I booked a table for 2 at Port Bar at lunchtime.  Imagine our surprise when we arrived and were told, "some people walked in off the street and sat at your table, so we'll put you here."  'Here' was at the end of a long table, and it was very cramped on my side and I almost had the concertina sliding door poking into my shoulder!  <br/>Our Question:  what's the use of booking, if you don't get the table you booked?  Haven't they heard of 'Reserved' signs?<br/>The waiter who sat us 'here' gave us menus, but did not return.  I had to call to him.  Other waiters were nice and more attentive.<br/>P.S.  the food was nice.

Location was lovely I’ll give it that, but the banquet menu just wasn’t great. Overall didn’t feel like tasty authentic Italian and the food was a bit limp and unappealing. It kind of felt like watered down food lacking in flavour. I personally wouldn’t go back.

We had a large function here in the upstairs area. The food was so terrible! It seems that the staff went to Coles to buy frozen food, and then chucked it in the oven. Way overpriced at $55 a head! Without exaggeration, the food was worth $5 a head. The most disappointing meal ever. Frozen curry puffs, mini frozen pizzas, and bowls of nuts. Really?!?!

My partner and I popped down here without a booking and the staff were welcoming and accommodating. The restaurant had outdoor gas heaters making it lovely and cosy outside. The food was beautiful. Angels on horse back, prawn pizza and chicken burger were all demolished by the end of the night. Staff were polite, quick service and the food surprisingly came out super quick despite being quite busy. Would certainly come again, especially due to the prawn pizza and pints of beer

Great location with great view of river. Thats it!! Nothing else is appealing about this place. How would you rate a restaurant if you find strands of hair in your food!! Not just one, but 3-4 of them. Yuk

First impressions are everything, this place missed the mark completely. Had breakfast there recently and was extremely disappointed on many fronts. First when coffee arrived the waitress passed the coffee over my little girl who was in her pram. Lucky for her she didn't spill any or there would have been hell to pay, that is just poor serving skills, you never EVER pass anything hot or otherwise over a baby. Next up the food arrived with raw sausages, and when i had them taken back to be rectified they returned not long after clearly having been put in the deep fryer as they were dripping with oil and the skin was tough. Lastly they forgot the hash browns off my order even after the waitress had written it down and repeated my order back to me. The waitress clearly lacked basic serving skills and the chefs need to learn how to cook food properly.

So we tried the prawn pizza and the mango chicken. The mango chicken is pretty interesting - it's has an Achaar (pickle) flavour which comes with rice. If I have to describe the food in one word, it would be fresh. The moment you take the first bite you know it's made with fresh ingredients. I won't say it's the best thing in Sydney but it's good. You are content. And it's a water view restaurant, I won't recommend for a romantic lunch / dinner but great place to hang around with friends.

We have given this place chance after chance and its déjà-vu<br/><br/>We had a break from visiting for several months and on our return, the place seemed to be just as popular.<br/><br/>It is in a good position and decent outlook.<br/><br/>The service, although friendly, on occasion don't get orders right.<br/><br/>This last visit, was atrocious.<br/><br/>I ordered house Cab Sav, poor quality, I requested a staple from the kitchen, the beef burger, with NO BACON.<br/><br/>I said no BACON twice, because the waiter came back and asked to clarify if it was chicken or beef.<br/><br/>They then served me a beef burger with bacon.<br/><br/>When I reminded the waiter, he said they will fix it. Well a very short time later they returned the same burger less the bacon, but with the same smell. This is beyond commenting.<br/><br/>The wedges were as always good quality.<br/><br/>After more than one major error over the years, I think I have finally parted company with the Port.

It's on the river, near the ferry stop. Which is good. I found the food fairly middle of the road Italian fare at river-view prices.

Poor. Great location but the service isint very good. Only two of us so they weren't interested.
John
The food is really yummy but honestly, overpriced. I would expect much better service for the price. Worst coffee of all time (every time) clearly not trained in coffee. Lame drinks menu, if I want to chill out with a smoothy or something other than a huge meal....zilch

Mrs. Anita Allen. We travelled down from the central coast for the day and arrived on the rivercat,. Would highly reccomend this resteurant as part of the river experience. The service was 1st. class the food great, it came out hot and plenty of it, we had 5 different dishes and each one was wery enjoyable. The girls waiting on our table were 1st. class,<br/>All in all the resturant added to a wonderful day in Sydney.

Joan. This is a dreadful restaurant which I visited on 20 July. Okay, there were lots of big groups and unfortunately I was on a table for an 80th birthday where half the table turned up 1 1/2 hours late. However, the people who were there waiting spent lots on wine. When we ordered, we had a long wait, my sister ordered pasta with chicken and basil pesto which was cold, had no sauce, no pesto and little bits of very hard chicken. A pie ordered by one of the party was cold, the lamb shanks looked grey and horrible and my Risotto that turned up 20 minutes after the other meals had lots of seafood, was hot, but was more like a pasta dish with lots of tomato passato. There is nothing to recommend about this business.<br/>The toilets are awful for a business that charges $27-$146 for a seafoods platter for two and more than $30 for a bottle of wine.

Great outlook over the Parramatta River.<br/>But sorry that's it, we were there for a catered function; and the Pasta was ok for entre, the Mains were overcooked and uneatable... Overcooked snapper, tuff chicken breast !!! Yuk!

Pleasant Riverside Setting Next To Parramatta Wharf. Enjoyed a work function at this venue recently at an outdoor setting. The pizzas were enjoyable. However the customer service was alittle mediocre and the food pricing alittle on the high side. Happy hour for $5 beers, spirits and wine from 4.30pm to 6pm was good as there are some enjoyable craft beers on tap. Can't beat the pleasant riverside location of this restaurant in Parramatta. I would go back as part of a large group but would choose elsewhere if seeking a purely dining experience in Parramatta.

Avoid, terrible service! Our group was clearly of age (29-33), and one in our party was refused service or forgetting her ID. The waiter served us an extra beer anyway, then the manager scolded us for trying to sneak a beer. We hadn't touched it, the service was rude and uncomfortable to experience. Needless to say, we moved elsewhere for dinner.

Terrible...dont bother going here!. Service was aweful! Waitstaff put us on a table with insufficient chairs and then took forever to take our orders. I clearly asked for no bread with my meal yet it came with it anyway. Eggs were poached and very overdone!! Ridiculous prices for terrible food and service. The location was not even that nice as the river smelt terrible and the people gathering around to get on the ferry were very noisey.

Great service, great location (esp having caught the RiverCat) and a great meal. Plenty of variety and no surprises.

Port bar is a definite misnomer!. Located right at the Wharf perfectly poised to serve customers waiting port side for a ferry - what a gold mine. Snag is that they don't seem to be able to get their act together. With 25 minutes to spare they only managed to produce a takeaway tea (peppermint instead of breakfast as ordered). We'd hoped for 2 simple glasses of wine from already opened bottles but I see that 25 mins was just not enough time for the staff to manage. Too bad!

Excellent!. Lunched here after taking some visitors from overseas on a ferry ride upriver from Circular Quay to Parramatta, and we were all delighted. Excellent variety on the menu, and everyone was extremely pleased with their dishes. Angels on Horseback, the Antipasto plate, and the Risotto Mare were particular highlights. Portions were generous, the service was friendly and efficient, and the setting by the river and the ferry wharf was most pleasant to while away a lazy afternoon of long lunching.

Good menu and variety, pleasant staff and friendly atmosphere

Port is a very relaxing place to have lunch or dinner, it is right on the water and has an amazing nreeze flowing in the restaurant. the waiters/waitresses are friendly and do not preassure you into buying too much. the pizzas are amazing. the bases are thin and crispy, it is not too cheesy and the toppings do not fall off. most importantly it tastes great. port is an excellent place to go to for lunch or dinner with your family and friends
