Review Tokyo Japanese Restaurant - Parramatta

This restaurant has a good location near the river, which is handy if your catching the ferry. There's a nice view if your sitting outside. However, there hasn't been much attention to creating a nice outdoor dining area. It's just plastic chair and metal tables on the concrete. Inside they have hung a pictures of the food that they serve. They all have a 'cook suck' or 'taken with flash' feel about them. It's not a good representation of what is being served. When we arrived the place was less than half full, but the women serving seemed run off her feet. I think that it might only have been her and the chef trying to get all the orders taken and meals served. They really needed another person. Though our orders didn't take too long, each dish came out at different time, which was a bit osd. There were people a number of getting served after us, even though they had arrived before us. The meals were ok. The teriyaki chicken was very sweet, and the Nori rolls really looked like they had been slapped together with out much thought of presentation. The edamame beans were a bit old and under seasoned. The tempura batter was ok, but there was a hair in one of the pieces of tempura potato. The salmon and tuna sashimi was awesome though. So soft and silky. That was amazing. So, there were some good bits. They have EFTPOS, but only for orders over $30. They also sell beer and wine and you can BYO.

Delicious tasting meals. Very reasonably priced for great food. Staff was nice. You can get both Japanese food as well as Korean food here. The sashimi portion was large and didn’t cost too much, and tasted just as good as other restaurants I’ve been to. Only thing it lacks is a bit of decor and aesthetics, but the food is amazing!

I'm a bit torn on this place. I'm not sure why there were a number of reviews specifically pointing out the quality of the sushi compared to others in Western Sydney. I mean, it's okay, but not great. I can think of Hukuya in Eastwood or Tanomi in Lidcombe that are better off the top of my head. Ultimately, it was decent, but I don't think I'd go back for dinner. Their weekday lunch specials look like really good value though.

So Rude to a regular customer. Waiting to order, then told by the older boss lady, no sorry you can't order "large booking coming". Can I eat-in? "No" Can I takeaway? "No" What terrible manners! If I did not have Korean friends, I would expect this is how Korean restaurants treated customers when busy. However, great Korean & Japanese food, quick, tasty and light on my pocket, just like the City. Better than Asadal around the corner and much cheaper. Also you don't get any tasty side dishes if you takeaway, so eat in.

Affordable and very cosy. Quiet neighbourhood away from the main Parramatta strip. This place is popular amongst Koreans and is run by Koreans. The set meal is very filling and delicious, usually a very busy place for dinner. I loved the sashimi however the tempura was a little soggy, which may have been the flour mix.

Good portions and good value meals. Always like coming to this local restaurant for a quick lunch/dinner.

Perfect place to have dinner. Such a nice place hidden in Parramatta, very friendly environment.

This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise. Hidden away near Parramatta wharf and off street, it is so unassuming. Food however, is delicious, fresh, varied, well presented and great value. The couple running it are such gentle lovely people. Nothing like good ol wholesome food.

Was turned away at the door 8:30pm on Sunday night when all signage indicates open to 10pm. Restaurant still had customers and would recommend they advertise correctly

I've been here half a dozen times now and will keep going back. Especially for the fresh, succulent sashimi. This is comfort food at its best. If you're drinking then BYO is a good option to keep the price down a little. I agree with some of the other reviews here, staff can be aloof in a way but I'm socially awkward anyways so I don't mind that lol. I'm just glad there's a place in the west that serves decent sashimi.

I'm beginning to appreciate the simple things in life. For example, ugg boots, $20 from Kmart comes with a lifetime of warm feet and social isolation should you venture from your abode. Much can be achieved and great happiness will unfold from such simple pleasures in all facets of life. Simple service for example costs not a dime, you can only place a price on service that pushes the boundary of what is common place within the service industry. Simple service is about comfort of the customer, the welcoming, the timing, the accommodation for your guests during their short and potentially final visit.
Food prices are reasonable, however don't reflect the quality of ingredients. The Japanese have a habit of producing some of the highest quality and presentable food I've eaten. Take Sushi for example, little packages of easy to eat, fast, healthy food that's delicious. It's a reflection of their culture of niceties. Tokyo falls short in every aspect. From a $30 EFT minimum, to the outer skin of the hardly fresh onion left within the dish, to the chefs eating in the restaurant. At 800. On a Friday night. The abrasiveness we received from the waitress, we must admit to interrupting her dinner to being charged an extra $7 for an EFT payment because it fell short of this outrageous minimum. They didn't take Amex either, we could hardly back out of the deal because cooking had commenced prior to payment. Awkward, confusing, embarrassing.

We have been here several times. Generally the Sushi/Sashimi is excellent. Fresh and nicely served. Plus its a BYO. If you would like to sit a few meters from the river-front, then you can sit out in the covered porch of this restaurant. Else just sit in for a regular hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. Good prompt service, though not particularly warm.
Other mains is a completely different matter though! They have no idea what BBQ beef should taste like it. On one occassion we also ordered fried chicken as an entree and BBQ beef in the mains. The chicken was good, but came after the mains were served! There is a bit of a communication barrier, and so we have to explain ourselves a couple of times before we get what we ask for!
Next time will stick to sushi/sashimi and will prefer take away. Certainly value for money, I will be coming here again for sure! Hope this place stays open for a long time to come!

Great for sashimi!. I have been here several times for sashimi and it really is good for price, quantity and quality. The sashimi was so good it just melted in my mouth which is a rare experience these days. Have brought others here for sashimi boats, and am a repeat customer.
