Review The Boathouse Restaurant - Paynesville

Just stopped in after fishing off the jetty. 30 mins before they closed. Ordered a super supreme, thin crust extra cheese. The bloke smashed out one of the best pizzas i have eaten in a long time. So much flavour!!! Crust was crunchy and not stingy on toppings. As for the store itself, one of the cleanest, tidiest and well kept pizza shops i have ever seen. Staff were friendly too. Would recommend a pizza from here with no problems whatsoever.

Staff were very friendly and very accomadating for my son who is gluten free and for myself who is vegan, for lunch. Quite stylish inside and food was delicious. Would definitely visit again. And also because I had two young children staff straight away suggested the comfy couch and bought over colour in sheets and pencils. Was a perfect experience!

Had brunch during a very busy Xmas period. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Manager seemed across everything. Food was excellent and venue is clean, well spaced and in a gorgeous location. Highly recommended.

I went in Lunch time, wanted to have Pizza, however the pizza bar was not selling Pizza, a bit disappointed. Food is ok, big serve.

The food here was excellent. The portions are large so if you're not very hungry consider sharing. The customer service was excellent and all the staff was friendly and accommodating. I would recommend the beer battered fish or Salmon. Both were large and tasty. Will come back.

Very good service. The staff were wonderful when we dined in for lunch, great food for a reasonable price. They were even better when we came back for pizza and dessert. Just all around good experiences.

Had a family breakfast here. Food was quite good. Only thing that I was a little taken back by was 10 dollar kids menu. I didn't feel like the value was there. Other then that a great in town Cafe. Great servers and food. Oh and coffe was lovely which is always on my must know 😄

The lunch menu decent however I highly recommend not getting the pasta- it was soupy, and was just plain bad. It was a very memorable experience, but not a good one. We ordered two of the garlic prawn pasta and it was a good thing we didn’t decide to order another. An enormous disappointment. Also, I expected more squid in the salt pepper squid for its price- it was mostly salad. The caramel milkshake was extremely sweet as well. The rest of the food was decent. The servers were nice, patient and accommodated us well. I’d just recommend the fish and chips, and the steak sandwich from the lunch menu.

I think the confusion with this place (from our experiences and also reading other reviews) is that there is a sit down restaurant area and a takeaway area and they seem to operate separately with different menus. It’s very confusing and not well indicated. We turned up (a family of four), and said we would like to order pizzas to eat at their outside table as it was a lovely evening. Ordered from the very limited and uninspiring selection of big standard pizza/pasta at the window, but made it clear we wanted to eat outside at their establishment. I also ordered a beer which presumably they wouldn’t be allowed to sell us if we were taking away.
We waited over an hour, I ordered a second beer during that time. When we finally asked how long our pizzas were going to take they looked confused then someone motioned to four cardboard boxes sitting on the oven. Apparently they were ours (they weren’t really sure) but they said they had only been there a few minutes. Judging by how tepid (almost cold) and stale they were, I would guess they had been there much longer, and no one figured that the family sitting at their outside table over an hour might just be waiting for food and no one thought to ask.
The pizzas themselves were just barely edible, don’t think they would have been much better fresh out of the oven. Couldn’t find anything resembling salami on my salami pizza when I asked they said ‘under the sauce’ but there was maybe one or two tiny slivers.
Maybe the seafood dishes inside were better but the pizza was at the lower end of bog ordinary and the service was terrible - these people just don’t have their act together or any concept of service. In general better to self cater in Paynesville as this place had one of the higher average ratings - would hate to see the others!!!

Saw this restaurant advertised in the lake coast magazine as a fine dining venue. Photos had tables covered in beautiful table cloths etc. We then looked up the website which contradicted the ad saying it was a pizza/pasta venue?? We phoned the venue who asked for our mobile number and text us the fine dining menu.
We decided to give the venue a go.
The place certainly wasn't fine dining. Just a casual place with over priced food. The captains table had fish cakes that were so very dry.
Not impressed for the money it cost us. Wouldn't go back.

Definitely a nice place to be in Paynesville considering food quality and price. Staff are very nice as well. It has its own bar and breakfast sector and pizza take away, very convenient for local life. The map direction on zomato seems not correct, but the actual "address" is correct. So don't follow the map, you will find it.

Service pleasant but slow and undertrained. Waited until after enter and then main for drinks. Food just tasteless and uninspiring. Advertised new chef more like new cook.

We were pleasantly surprised by this place! My pizza was delicious and had many toppings. The only reason I didn't rate higher is because I specifically ordered no onion and was given it anyway. My partner enjoyed a Gorgonzola and chorizo chicken breast. He said it was delicious with a creative mix of flavours. He wished the breast had more cheese but he was very happy with his meal. Thanks!

A great place to relax and dine with some mouth watering dishes on the menu and good quality wines available, the views of lake are unparalleled and uninterrupted.
Staff is very courteous and service is usually on time.

Disappointing.. Despite the high prices, the menu was jaded, ingredients poor quality (gristly steak), and the atmosphere, despite the gorgeous setting, was that of a supermarket. Homemade dinner from IGA or Foodworks, indeed, would have been nicer and much, much cheaper.

Went there tonight for our 21st wedding anniversary and had amazing service from Gary and a lovely meal. Would definitely recommend and we will be back as lots of things on menu to try

Went here with my mum for a Sunday lunch. Beautiful Parma's with good quality coffee. Very good service. Overall really well worth the visit.

Crummy service. Agree with other comments, staff very unfriendly, waited for nearly an hour for a drink, not busy, understaffed, to the owner food great, sort the staff situation out, u r losing money by not serving drinks sooner, this was Easter Sunday, we went another day same crummy, I do not want to be here service, will not eat here again

Nice place with a good view of the water. Couldn't get a smile or anything from the staff. Staff didn't know the menu when I ordered. Oysters seems like they were pre made or brought in and small which isn't good for a town on the sea. Not many other choices in town for dinner. Can't say I will be back in a hurry
