Review European Restaurant - Perth

Amazing service and meals. The Miss Maud Buffet is a wonderful establishment. It keeps with the European style. From the art to the food, Miss Maud is an excellent buffet to bring the kids and/or the family.

EDITED. This is an old review. I need to revisit now that it is been rebranded into European Restaurant. Old review: Oh Miss Mauds Smorgasboard. What a joyful place. The collection of gallant and graceful hospitality staff truly go far to make your visit an enjoyable one. They consistently ask you how you’re doing, is the food alright, and they scoop your employ plates away faster than you can turn around sometimes. Each and every time I come, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner I leave feeling like it was a good use of time and money. It’s by far one of the most pricey buffet I’ve been to. With breakfast at $27 seven days a weeks, lunch at $45 on weekends and dinner at $55 it’s not for the frugal amongst us. The best of the lunch is the giant pavlova and the muscles in cream sauce. The endless string coffee is a fav of mine, as I like to stick around the whole meal and eat slowly, so my many a cup of joe helps is flow.

Very nice, clean, quiet hotel would definitely recommend it. But was a bit disappointed with dinner does look lovely on the pictures, in reality the selection was much less than in the pictures. Breakfast on the other hand was great, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, juices cereal and much more.

WOW...!! I'm sorry but I've had to change my review regarding the ICONIC MISS MAUD RESTAURANT & HOTEL... It is now called the NEMONIC... I haven't actually been here since it changed ownership, I remember when it was called The European Hotel, so I'm sorry that I had to edit my past review.... Unfortunately, The Miss Maud Restaurant & Hotel is now gone forever... Among many other companies, especially small business owners in Perth... I will leave the photos here, just so we don't forget the awesome restaurant, especially the pastry shop which had some delicious cakes... Miss Maud Cafès are still around Perth. City Arcade, Hay Street West & The Carillon Arcade.. I'll have to go visit NEMONIC so I can write a decent review... The exterior is still the same...

Firstly: any individual over the age of 10 yrs that uses the word "yummy" in a written review, deserves to be drowned in a warm bucket of milk! I can recommend the breakfast buffet here - for $27, it covers all the bases. Fresh, excellent drip coffee,(which in itself is a rarity these days with espresso/latte etc) juices and all the breakfast items you can expect. The pancakes and fresh whipped cream were also a nice addition. The decor is a bit dated, but that didn't interfere with enjoying the food. To correct another reviewer, breakfast starts at 6:45am. I don't know where he got the 8:30am from? The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. Worth a visit.

We dined here as part of the Miss Maud Hotel room package deal. Buffet dinner was superb. Staff were friendly and worked quickly and efficiently. The selections of food from seafood, salads, hot dishes and desserts were delicious. In particular the beef brisket which was melt in your mouth and deserved 5 stars of its own - and I'm not a huge fan of beef! All the desserts were so yum, many are sold in Miss Maud cafes. Our only "gripe": the chocolate mousse is overly sweet. It was like the chef sneezed while adding the sugar and accidentally put in 200% sugar. The birthday balloons were a lovely surprise as was the musician who came to our table with a slice of chocolate "birthday" cake aka Queen Silvia. Breakfast was a laid back relaxing affair with equally efficient and friendly staff. The crepes are very addictive and so mouth watering. Everything else was standard breakfast buffet fare all well cooked and nicely presented. Of note: the two male staff members who manned the restaurant reception at dinner and breakfast (sorry don't know their names) were so lovely and welcoming. They are a great choice to be the "face" of the restaurant. Would definitely recommend dining here.

The Saturday lunch buffet has a large selection of dishes. There are also cooked prawns (boiled) and pickles fish. There are Miss Maud Cakes for dessert. I tried the Red Velvet Cake and that was pretty good. There is also unlimited brewed coffee/tea Overall, the food tasted good. The price was about 50 per person for the buffet
Vorhees a jolly good fellow
Absolutely satisfied. I've visited the breakfast buffet twice. It's a very comprehensive spread, that includes pancakes, French toast and waffles. The brewed coffee is piping hot and very good!

Food was super fresh and delicious. Brilliant service and staff were very warm and friendly. Kids got gifted balloons and hats on arrival and loved the variety of the food. Def a new place to add to our restaurant list.

Did the hotel, dinner, breakfast deal. Had such a great time, room is comfortable and clean. Meals were great. Special thank you to our server at breakfast Theresa who was just awesome. Friendly with everyone and took an interest in each person she came across. Hopefully she is teaching the rest of the staff customer service skills because she is top notch.

The staff were absolutely phenomenal. Very helpful and always happy. I couldn’t believe it. They all seemed to really love their jobs and it set a good mood for the night. The seafood was just perfect. Everything tasted fresh and presented well. Everything else was a bonus. Thank you Miss Maude’s for an enjoyable night. It was definitely worth the price and the experience was memorable. We will be back 👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗

We had a lovely meal at Miss Maud's today & the roast meat & vegetables was absolutely delicious! Buffet was nice but lacking a little, considering we paid $45/head. All in all, we had a nice experience but will not rush back. One thing I will point out, the service from Teresa was absolutely outstanding!!!! Credit to Teresa for making us feel so welcome & she could not have helped more. I hope this message gets back to her. Well done xxxxx

My partner and I stayed at the Miss Mauds hotel for the Treat for Two deal, and it was definitely worth it. Included buffet dinner and breackfast for 2! Hotel facilities were clean and tidy and enjoyed the themed decor. Dinner and breakfast were amazing!!!

Miss Maud's is still the best place in Perth City to have Smorgasbord meal. The service is also eally good

Excellent variety and quality of food, lots of wait staff promptly clearing tables and providing wonderful service overall. Great atmosphere, have celebrated at MM’s milestone birthdays, work functions and Christmas do’s.

Ate here last Saturday for the dinner buffet with a group of 7. Service friendly enough and cleared plates etc quite quickly and not too intrusively. Atmosphere was lacking, just a few tables of people.<br/><br/>I was really not impressed with the selection of food available and quality was really average too. for the price I did expect a little more. choice of 2 roast meats which where very dry and tasteless, roast veggies were not good, under cooked soggy potatoes etc. seafood selection all cold options, some OK though i am not a fan of natural oysters and cold prawns when out for dinner. Deserts were OK but all cake options the same as the cafes from the looks. would have been nice to have something like a crumble or custard as an option, old fashioned maybe but at least an option and in fitting with the food style of the restaurant. <br/><br/>I left feeling hungry and unsatisfied despite it being a buffet. might be better if you really liked to eat oysters and prawns.

Had the $27 breakfast buffet here and it was good. They have limited selection but I have no complain over their dishes: the bacon waa good, the poached eggs were perfect, pancakes was decent and the mushroom waa allright too! I was a bit dissapointed that they only have 1 type of danish and 1 type of brownies - I mean it is Miss Maud afterall you would expect more pastries. Still, it was a decent $27 buffet : I was full and it was good :)
Michelle
New owners and everything tastes different, quality of seafood is no longer fresh like it used to be. Only thing that’s the same is the dessert section. They also use cheap meat for roasts now too.
Leslie Yapi
Looking for grand buffet with the best dessert?<br/>Whenever I go home from this place, I ate at least 8 different desserts. <br/>There's always place for dessert rite?!?<br/>The savoury food is also nice, but I always love Miss Maud dessert, <br/>So for me, this is heaven!!

The seafood was so exquisite I fell like I was back in NZ. The mains and sweets were on point. I was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding staff who were friendly and helpful. My family and I enjoyed ourselves very much.

We went here for a dinner buffet and unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. There is a very small selection of starters and main courses with the main focus being on desserts. Hence I didn’t really enjoy a balanced meal and not sure if I’ll be back again for the buffet
Canaan Perry
I go here for the marinated herrings on the Smorgasbord. Give me those and rye bread and I'm in Valhalla! The breakfast is also great. Something about the sausages is transcendental.

Family and I when here for Sunday breakfast as it was my son’s birthday. The Christmas decorations were out. It was not too busy and the atmosphere was pleasant. The usual tried and tested fare was on offer. No complaints.
Rob
A Perth institution. Fresh and wonderful food, comfortable surroundings and absolutely outstanding and efficient service by most courteous staff. I cannot believe that this venue gets any negative reviews, it is excellent in all respects.
Jemma
Amazing food every time I have been. You definitely need to try, if you have a sweet tooth because the desserts are fantastic! I have been going here for over 12 years and the food is always fresh and of the highest standard.

If you have lived in Perth as long as I have I doubt you haven't visited or at least heard of the Miss Maud Smorgasbord Restaurant. <br/>I have fond memories of visiting this venue, few places in Perth have such a range of beautifully prepared dining delights. The roasts are succulent and desserts always flavourful, a foodies paradise for sure. <br/>Be sure to book for the smorgasbord because this restaurant is always near capacity, especially at lunchtime when I usually visit. <br/>Seating is comfortable but somewhat crowded, the decor suitable for the restaurants heritage and staff efficient. It hasn't changed that much over the decades, and I hope it never does! Very well done.

Excellent service, will be there again very soon.<br/>The sea food is very fresh, all the classic food available, roast lamb, roast beef.<br/>I will bring my friends families with me
Perth Eater
Easily ordered take away online. Really good choice of platters. We chose the number 2 Sliders which consisted of 14 sliders, egg salad, ham salad and smoked salmon salad. They were really tasty and beautifully presented on a covered plastic tray. Cost a little steep, but you pay for convenience. $61.95 plus $10.00 delivery. Will definitely do it again.

Got taken for lunch here yesterday and it was pretty delicious! Nice home cooked food and lots to choose from.<br/><br/>I love desserts and the lemon tarts and caramel slices were amazzzingggg! Can't wait to go back! 😍

After walking up and down Murray Street for 2 hours, I returned to Ms Maud Hotel and at about 7.30pm, into Miss Maud Restaurant, two doors away and at the corner of the street. Almost 3/4 full with customers, upon entering, the pleasant manager checked through my reservation. I then sat at the nearest empty table and had a glimpse of the ambiance as well as the array of dishes. Feeling a little uncomfortable with picturing in the lightly dimmed homely dining area without interrupting the diners, I asked for permission and the manager smilingly replied - "Please, by all means".

This place has got to be one of the most boring places I have ever eaten at in my life the atmosphere makes you want to sleep and the food is so plain. Stay home and eat a piece of dry toast and you will be happier
Paul
Went there every morning for breakfast <br/>Unbelievable the different kinds of food there from cereals , pastries , fruits all different types of cooked breakfast .I could go on and on but do yourselves a favor and just go.

Great food. The roast pork was succulent and delicious. Wonderful fresh salads and amazing roast vegetables. The pavlova was somewhat lackluster, but overall a very enjoyable experience.
Pollo_pesce_me
I am not sure if the owner are Swedish or not but it does feel like you've transported or stuck on Christmas Eve in Swedish town in 1901 :-)<br/>Food was generally good for a buffet. Prawns yabby and pork roast was nice. They also had a good selection of salads. I think it’s a good family restaurant if you are chaperoning a bunch of teenagers.
Mimie
Not impressed :(. Went for dinner with a group of friends and I was very disappointed bacause I dont eat sea food and sea food was pretty much 80% of the food available. There were only 3 hot meals and the rest were cold meats etc. Honestly, I was expecting more variety of food options. The only thing I enjoyed there was the friendly Pianist who sang and played nice music. He really does a good job, He should keep it up :)

Sometimes you need to experience the worst to appreciate the best. <br/><br/>As newcomers to Perth, my partner and I didn’t recognise the name “Miss Maud’s” when my partner was given a gift voucher from a friend. I looked it up online and read some reviews and found the overwhelming majority to be negative, so I lowered my expectations from the beginning, and that was absolutely the right decision as things turned out. <br/><br/>The chilly reception from the front of house (senior) staff member set the tone from the beginning. She seemed equally curt with her other colleagues and patrons alike. About half the tables were taken on arrival at about 7:30 on a Friday night, populated mostly by pension-aged folk who seemed to be enjoying themselves. The lone musician seemed like something out of the Wedding Singer movie, but more sad. In fact everyone working in the place seemed a little despondent. I empathise and think this must be because of the quality of product that you are trying to flog, and the undoubtedly high number of furious, unsuspecting patrons that pay top dollar for bargain basement food. This is yet another example of carnie-style exploitation of the dull Perth populace who don’t seem to know any better.<br/><br/>Now I must admit I am not of a fan of buffet dining at the best of times, but this was not the best – rather the most laughable culinary experience I have endured in my life. It was so far subpar that my partner and I were actually in hysterics for most of the 40 minutes we were there. Starting with the hot food, there was some pork that was miraculously dry on the outside and pink (raw-ish) in the center, some very rubbery “crackling”, some roast beef, which was silverside, and splendidly tough at that. There was something that resembled beef stroganoff but it looked horrendous so I steered clear. There was a tray of micro-mussels in a passata-type sauce which actually wasn’t too bad, however the tiny mussels had been cooked to within an inch of their life so had shrunk to the size of a peanut so were lost in the copious sauce. It was therefore mainly a tray of shells and sauce. <br/><br/>The cold options were equally hilarious. There were several inane, repetitive salad options, predominantly comprised of ingredients that looked a liked they came from a tin, and all swimming in cheap mayonnaise. There were some very cheap looking sliced meats on offer – which looked like the kind that resides next to the pet food in the supermarket – you know that chicken loaf stuff? The jewel in crown of Miss Maud’s must be the seafood section. There were some small, bait-sized, probably bait-grade, prawns that tasted like they had been frozen sometime last year, along with some little, smelly yabbie-like things that I’d never seen before. They smelled like a pungent gym sock, and tasted little better. Once shelled, they were about the size of a cashew nut, but I could only eat half as the smell was just too much – and I’ve eaten some nasty stuff in my time (e.g. balut, durian, Andean cuy). There were cold mussels in the shell which were enormous and really gave the jaw a good workout due to their leather-like consistency. I chuckled when I saw one of the dishes labelled “seafood salad”. It was chopped up seafood extender in mayonnaise. That was it! I finished off my taste test with a couple of pieces of cheese that was on par with Home Brand, along with some decadent Chicken Shapes. The bargain supermarket-quality cakes on offer seemed popular with the kids in the place. Some were smashed up beyond recognition from the earlier 5:30pm seating so I steered clear. I opted not to drink any of the overpriced beverages on offer as, I was continually hassled by staff for drinks despite saying “no thankyou” to each staff member at least once.<br/><br/>So all in all, this was both the worst, and one of the most amusing dining experiences. Go for the goofy décor, the ridiculous food, and the appalling atmosphere. Have a laugh and enjoy it for what it is – the Fawlty Towers of Perth. This is the farthest end of the hospitality yardstick (by Perth’s handicapped standards), and puts every other dining experience you will have in perspective. <br/>We left with a partially-full stomach and opted for takeaway on the way home, and came to the conclusion that the gift voucher must have been as a joke. Well played, sir.

Mrs Royal. Over the past few years myself and my family have been regular customers at Miss Maud's restaurants. Last night I was sadly dissapointed at the hot food served at the smorgasbord in the city centre restaurant. On top of this I was not impressed at being charged $5 per person extra for our group of eight leaving at 7. 20 I was originally told that the session times were 5.00 to 7.30 and 7.30 to 10. 30 I opted for the early session and was totally unaware that we were being charged extra for staying after 7.00 pm .I must say that the service from the staff was very good and we were actually participating with the guy doing the entertainment which is why we stayed after our meal was over.I will be seriously considering any future visits as I consider that somehow the food standards have slipped to what they used to be. Not everyone eats the sea food and cakes and the beef last night was very tough and the alternate choice of sausages was not well received . All in all a rather disappointing evening. Regards Mrs S Royal

Amazing. Was staying at the hotel so had the smorgasboard dinner and also the breakfast, staff were lovely and service was excellent, selection of food was excellent and everything was absolutely delicious, we will definitely be back :) 5 stars!

Wow let me loose. I must admit I love food far to much and I love variety just as much.<br/>I have dinned here so many times and have dragged family and friends along to enjoy it.<br/>One night we stayed at the hotel and didn't get much sleep due to the night drunken bums across the street fighting and sirens going off regularly with the cops and ambulances.<br/>Anyway we had breakfast there and loved it than decided to stay for lunch as well.<br/>The food is fresh plentiful and very tasty and it seems I just cant get enough, we even held my mums birthday there since its her favourite eatery as well.<br/>I just cant say enough about this place, the staff very helpful and speedy, The food impeccable, The price very acceptable except the $14 for a carath of cola and the only gripe is the smelly high rise parking building across the road, apparently some people think its a urinal.

Lordie, lordie Miss Maudie. This restaurant is ranked #55 of 1,466 Perth restaurant on Trip Advisor and the reviews are rather different to those that appear on urbanspoon where they generally reflect my view of this establishment. Clearly this restaurant is a matter of taste and in fairness, it was beginning to fill up by around 7.30 on a Friday night. Whether these guests will come back again Is anybody's guess. I certainly wouldn't.<br/><br/>The experience was massively underwhelming. The format is smorgasbord and this is, unfortunately, often an excuse for the restauranteur to provide volume rather than quality. This is certainly the case here. <br/><br/>There were two options for meat. One was beef, which was extremely dry and chewy top side. From the look of it I would suspect it was doing its second night out. The lamb was small chopped up bits of lamb swimming in gravy and I decided against that. There are vegetables and cauliflower cheese. Think Sunday Roast at the local bowling club but without all the flair. <br/><br/>There were large bowls of pasta style salads and a couple of large trays of prawns and yabbies. The yabbies looked as if they shouldn't have been taken away from their mothers.<br/><br/> The deserts with the normal range of sweet cakes and there was a range of supermarket style cheeses available.
Foodie
So disappointing. Appalling service - the staff act as though you are inconveniencing them. Plates never cleared so had to be piled up at the end of the table to make room. The food is very poor. A million cold salads but for $60.00 a head I expect more than that. Main courses are limited. No fish or chicken meals, just a bland curry and stodgy rice. Vegetables to accompany the roasts taste soggy and underseasoned. The desserts are simply leftovers from their vast array of coffee shops around town. They need to lift their game in all departments. We will not be returning.

Went today for a friends birthday, plenty of food and what we ate was ok.<br/>For the price I would of assumed the soft drink would of been complimentary
Frank
It was bad food and over priced I was hungry and couldn't finish my meal , I think the potatoes were from a can ! My mates meal was awful too . Very simple meals and they managed to fail. The service poor . The restaurant looked beautiful should be a great restaurant just need better food and service. And no real swedish meals on the menu ? I won't be back I can't believe some people out there actually liked it but then people still eat at coffee club and current affair does well in the ratings ?
Shan
A BIG disappointment. Had dinner here with my family, even though the range was pretty good the atmosphere, setting, and music I didn't enjoy. Music was really old, needed to be more up beat. The prices were to pricey too. Won't be back again!<br/>A

The Evergreens. There were 5 of us (elderly ladies) lunching at the Innaloo outlet this afternoon. As there was 5 of us, one of the<br/>kind waitresses quickly organised for two tables to be joined up. However, we were served by another<br/>waitress who just dropped a bunch of forks and knives on the table together with 5 napkins. Are we supposed to<br/>set the table ourselves or is this is your usual service? We do appreciate it was around your busy lunch time but<br/>we were quite surprised by this kind of service. Otherwise we have no complaint against the food and beverage served. .

Still Good..... Have not been for years and years went back for dad's birthday and was super, he was looked after like a king. Heaps of food, good range, service great. staff on finding out it was his 70 th, got the the entertainment to come over and sing him happy birthday.
Kdernt
Always good, but just got better. Having a good dinner, with plenty of seasonal variety, is guaranteed at Miss Maud's. The big surprise was the addition of gluten free desserts, which were really delicious and didn't hurt my complicated tummy. A big thankyou - from someone who rarely gets to enjoy the sweeter things.

Well just finished dining at Miss Maud's in Perth CIty, on the corner of Murray and Pier Street... Initial booking was difficult through their online booking service, Dimni I think it is called... The food was say so, variety was there, highlight was the seafood and the live entertainment... $49 per head was somewhat justified, I did not leave the restaurant raving about the value... 4 adults including drinks (no alcohol) the bill came to $230 ... Not that worthwhile when you look at it like that.. Once again poor service experienced, even to the fact the staff could not speak English that well.... We asked for a chocolate with our coffee (which was very good), and they needed 3 people to achieve the request.... When I went to pay the bill there was 5 different types of chocolate at the counter.... I was puzzled !!!!! Overall rating from me was a 5/10

My partner and I dropped into Miss Maud's Joondalup store on Sunday, we ordered the Devonshire special with two hot drinks, a flat white and a affogato.<br/>The waitress spilled the flat white into the saucer, however she proceeded to place it in front of my partner and offered her extra napkins to clean it up instead of taking it away and sorting out the spilt coffee. My affogato had a very very small serve of ice cream so small that the coffee didn't Chang colour and the coffee was burnt!!!! Therefore undrinkable and to top it off the scones were defrosted and topped with fake cream.<br/>This would have to be the worst customer service experience and appalling quality that I have experienced in a long time!!!!

Rubbery breakfast. This place was the duck's nuts when I arrived in Perth some 20 years ago. It was always considered expensive but also worth it since you were getting something slightly exotic of high quality. Sad to say this is no longer true. I went in for the breakfast smorgasbord recently and found the frankly pedestrian selection unappetising. The pastries were old and dry, all the eggs and bacon (which you often have to wait for) were either rubbery or greasy, the drip filter coffee tasted like hatred and pain. At least I got a buzz off it, or maybe it was all the cream and syrup I needed to drown the flavour of passive aggression and spite that permeated the pancakes. There's obviously no love coming out of that kitchen. I'll never go back. There are SO MANY great breakfast places in Perth that won't charge you $31 dollars for crap you can cook yourself much better at home.

Mrs. After booking nearly 12 months in advance for my Danish mother in laws 80th birthday, and travelling from Queensland and South Australia for the occasion, miss mauds called us in October wondering why we weren't there, thinking our booking was for that date, when the booking was for December, then when we arrived in December there was no record of the booking despite talking to us on the phone a couple of weeks prior and confirming for the 3rd time the booking was to be for the 12th December. The food was below average, not Swedish, inedible chicken and meatballs, sloppy tasteless salads, oysters were old and most of the seafood was frozen and tasteless, nothing like the food and service we had 30 years ago, very disappointing and over priced, could have done better at a market stall. We certainly wont be going back again and neither will anyone we come into contact with Australia wide. Shame on you Miss Maud.
Europefeast
Mrs. The atmosphere was okay but the food just below average, the roast was dry, the cold meat just didn't taste fresh, oyster was good, but prawns is so smelly, doesn't smell fresh at all
Cibo Semplice
Average Buffet Antiquated. Food is okay. But for $55 i don't believe it's value for money. Most cold dishes are very simple that could be prepared at home. Lack of meat dishes as well. No real Swedish feel about the venue.
Mummy Picnic
Nice staff, but 'okay'-only food. Mediocre in comparison to the Miss Maud's smorgasbord of yore. Very disappointing 'black forest' cake, lacking in taste and quality, overly sweet. In Sophia Pou's words: "a waste of stomach space". Sorry, but we won't be back.

Lunchtime Smorgasbord. We celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary at Miss Mauds with others in our family. Miss Mauds included balloons, which was a nice touch. The price is pretty good for what you can eat, when you add it all up. There is quite good variety of food. I thought the cakes were a bit uninviting (apart from my favourite, the Princess Cake). But others in our party enjoyed them.. The mains had variety, fairly standard. Salads, cheeses, breads and cold meats with a small variety of hot - roast and a curry. There was coffee and tea and iced water on tap. The staff were very attentive to everyone and friendly. They cleaned up plates regularly and were helpful. <br/>As for the decor, it hasn't changed in all the years we have been going...I have known Miss Mauds to be Swedish, but there wasn't really anything in the restaurant to show it was Swedish. Could do with a refreshing paint throughout. <br/>Parking is excellent, with the multistory carpark across the road. <br/>I enjoyed our experience and will go back. I like the atmosphere. Its not posh but it is welcoming.
Alfred
Breakfast Buffet. Just love it ! Variety of choice. My wife just likes the pancake very much.<br/>Two particular staffs are extremely friendly and always smile... LIKE it !<br/>I hope another one and the chef do the same :)
Sillystupid88
Just bad. This is probably one of the worst places i have eaten out. For the price you pay there is not much food and the choice of food you get is poor. besides the roast there was only two hot dishes a curry and mussels.the rest consisted of sloppy salads. Never going there again!
Todd
Appalling service, average food and rude staff. Went here on ANZAC day with my highly decorated father and the staff we so rude to him. Never again. McDonalds is a better option. Shame on you staff of Miss Maud's . Shame!

Off the streets and into Christmas!. When I walked in off the streets and into Miss Maud's Smorgasborg (not "buffet!) Restraunt I had the illusion of the fact that I had stepped into this surreal place where it was Christmas Day every day. And with the ammount of food that is up for grabs it is not surprising. For the price you would be mad not to do what most people do on Christmas Day and stuff more food down your throat in one sitting than you normally would in a week, definetey bring an appitite. A Sweedish friend commented how acurrate the artifacts that they decorate the establishment are but not too impressed with the fact that the seafood is Ausutralian influence. But hey it is Australia! and where else are you going to heat as much seafood as that for the price you are paying! Even the decedent caviar! they had caviar what a luxury for the price!!! The staff may not be genuiney Sweedish but who cares! If you leave hungry then you are a very picky eater, but if you are like me and are an eating machine that is built for "power" and not for "economy" and are tired of these places that serve up a main that looks like a "snack" that is cleverley disguised as a "work of art" and costs you $70 then i recommend Miss Mauds Smorgasborg where you will think that all your Christmases have come at once!

Fantastic!. Took a chance on the smorgasbord one night while wondering where to have dinner. Have been back several times and always been happy with the food and service. the staff are always lovely and the old guy with the accordion is hilarious! Eating your 3rd plate of roast lamb and potatoes listening to folk versions of national anthems is always quality. The smorgasbord is around $47 dollars for dinner, which reasonable, and includes the carvery, seafood, cold meats and deserts, and we always have trouble getting a table because its so busy. Miss Maud's has been there for a long time, and hopefully will be around for a while yet

Long live the 70s and 80s!!!! From the decor, the dishes from the buffet, umm I mean smorgasbord and right to the wonderful singer with his Casio keyboard memories kept flooding in from my wife's and I teenage years. All that was missing was the seafood mornay. Great food, great service and a great night. We stayed and extra 30 minutes after eating waiting for some to try the princess cake so we could see what was in it!! So much fun :).

Sunday lunch - Great spread and if you can eat a lot, great value. Everything fresh and tasty and love the pastries and prawns and yabbies and salads. Best thing about it is the time warp atmosphere and daggy entertainer who you can't help but smile to. Service is old fashioned and good.

Love it. Had lunch while visiting Perth. Loved all the choices of food. A bit expensive but worth it :)

Where's the salad?. Miss Maud's was great as a kid- but now it's become disappointing.<br/><br/>The staff were fantastic and the decor stunning- its the food thats a real let down. If one thinks even Sizzler is better- you know that this is not quite right.<br/><br/>The spread is disappointing! Dinner is $55 I think from memory and if you dont like seafood, there really isnt much else.<br/><br/>There is no pasta- lasagna etc which I found odd. The only salad I saw apart from those bulk nasty coleslaws etc was a tired old bowl of lettuce and carrot. It looked like something I would make at home. <br/><br/>I wouldnt go back unless someone bought me a voucher.

Bad buffet. Hot food = sloppy curries, salty sausages, nasty roast meat with sugary sauce.<br/>Seafood = frozen thawed oysters and prawns one of mine was still frozen fresh seafood? please.<br/>Roast = very dry almost like jerky<br/><br/>Worst of all the salads just a huge slop on a plate with a ton of dressing <br/>makes it just so soggy.<br/><br/>IIn all seriousness whats so swedish? when the hot food are pasta/ curries and the salads are asian?

Great Night. We went on a busy Sat night and enjoyed great food, excellent service and overall had a really enjoyable night. Def will be returning.

What the????. Don't understand what all the hype is about this place. For $40 you can get a MUCH better meal just about anywhere else. Don't bother.

Great ! Say no more. We have our Christmas lunch here with our mum and my kids. They have everything you could possibly want. Year after year there is the same wonderfull staff. That talks volumes. They are a wonderful family run business. The food is fresh, plentiful, good variety . Fantastic service. You could not want more in a restaurant. Live fun entertainment. We also go for special occasions throughout the year and its always great. The sea food and deserts are to die for. Good selection of beer and wine. Don't eat lunch before you come for dinner. Easy access to parking and cinema. Wonderful.

$45 on friday night for buffet. NOTE the 10% RAC discount doesnt apply on Fridays. Good selection of food- roast lamb and beef, garlic bread, curry beef and rice, sausages, potatoes and cream cauliflower, lotsa different salada. Also oysters mussels chicken fish cubes in sauce. Dessert also good selection. Food was very nice. Oysters slightt over ripe a bit.<br/><br/>Definitelt come here again. Much cheaper than other buffets like atrium($75). Atrium has bigger selection, but one can only eat so much! So an extra $30 is not worth it
.....
Good with the kids. Good food, tasty and feels like you are having something nice & healthy for lunch/dinner, unlike other smorgasboards around. We took our almost 3yr old & 16mth old and they received a menu to colour-in, with a box of crayons each to take home, a balloon & a kings crown to wear. Ladies bathroom had a great little change table and a large basin, out of the way which made changing easy. We were in Perth for 9days & went twice in that time, yum!

Delightful!. We have always enjoyed the smörgåsbord here - freshness, consistency, staff, price, music. Also, it's a genuine buffet meal where you actually serve youself unlike some other "famous" Perth buffets (read Café at the Hyatt) where the waitpersons dole out some of the dishes like a mess canteen! Try to go over the Christmas season at least - truly magical. One night we even saw Miss Maude herself dining there.

Went there after football so was not up to smorgasbord so ordered a veggie lasagne and it was average at best. To be honest had better feeds at ikea Then ordered a little creatures pilsner they brought me a pale ale I told the waiter he went back to the bar exchanged it then told me I ordered the wrong beer Won't be coming back anytime soon Over priced and food was not that good
GeoM
Had the smorgasbord. Food was fine. Service good. Cosy atmosphere. Price is reasonable

Good food. This place has a good smorgasbord buffet for dinner. The price has increase slightly to 44 on weekday dinner and 52 for weekend dinner. The choice is limited but the food they serve is yummy. There's ham n roast beef that's cut right in front of you , mussels, oysters , prawns, cakes, pastas, salads etc. love the beetroot salad and the chicken dish n mushroom soup! While the oyster was quite ok , it's not the best I had:(<br/><br/>I also realized the food they served on weekends tasted better than weekdays hence the difference in price .

Great food! Place is a bit crammed but that doesn't stop us going back:)

Super. I've been here twice now recently on the overnight stay package. Not disappointed and loved the buffet. We're veggies and there was plenty of choice for us. Great value!

Overhaul Needed. This place is a living memory reference to what it was when I was 8 years old. Been in for coffee and cake special which was ok but everything else seems to be dated and barely functioning..and its so dark in there throw a few laser guns in and you'd probably be catering for the right crowd...them and I think oldies still grip on to it but just change a little and move into the year 2011.

Awful. Miss Maud should either invest some serious money in her tired old business or shut up shop. Food - and decor - has moved on in the 40 years she has operated in Perth, but she has changed nothing. Breakfast today was quite horrible. From the poor quality fruit juices through nasty bacon, overcooked eggs, rock hard pastries, and indescribably revolting "coffee" , a disaster from start to finish - aided by the naffest of decor from the 1970s and sullen staff. And as for any "swedish" association, there wasn't any. Last time I was in that country, every meal seemed to offer an abundance of fish - salmon, herrings, and others in various ways. Miss Maud? Nothing. Shape up or go away Miss Maud, we have better places to eat in Perth these days.
Elizabeth
Love it!. Fantastic buffet, not overpriced and food is absolutely devine!
Jonathon Sciola
Wow. I can taste the love in the food. This is the best buffet I've experienced. You can taste the quality oil in the salad. I am impressed. It's like eating Christmas dinner at your sweedish family home. 100% satisfaction for quality, atmosphere and service.

Great for family gatherings.. Me and my family have been coming here for years for special occasions. The food is good, but it's also about the vibe in this place. It has a really homey feel to it, and you just feel really relaxed here. The live band just adds to the positive vibe especially because they always sing to the birthday girl/boy. If you've never been to Miss Maud before, generally the menu consists of:<br/>Hot food - roast lamb, pork or beef, 2 soups, a curry, 4 warmers of various dishes ranging from cheesy potato bake to even chilli mussels! <br/>Cold food - cold meats, prawns, mussels, oysters, yabbis, a selection of breads and cheese. <br/>Deserts - a fine selection of cakes and pastries you would find at Miss Maud cafes!
Luke
Awesome food, great relaxed atmosphere and the staff are so friendly and welcoming...I'll definitely be going back. Highly recommend this place, you won't be disappointed!
Eve Lin
Abundance made up for anything lacking!. Good service and range of food and cakes - overwhelmed by the sheer quantity! Quality of mains was slightly above average with some pretty yum food (and some that I don't really like) and I'd rate the cakes and other desserts as above average. Didn't see any chilli mussels tho, only had the plain ones.

Not to bad all round. A step up from sizzlers on the bistro front. Great selections

Wierd is not the word, don't think there's enough drugs in the world to make me get this place:)

Breakfast. Nice breakfast, lots of choice and variety - really good pancakes with maple syrup - every breakfast choice you can imagine can all drinks are included as well

Sunday Lunch. Where did the $100 per person come from??? More like $40 (adult). Good selection and the music contributes to the family atmosphere. Good for a family lunch.

Best smorgasbord in perth?. There's a lot of choices around Perth when it comes to buffet dining now, but this still remains the original and a benchmark for the others to live up to. The cakes are awesome. Seafood is tops, hot foods such as roast turkey, casseroles, etc. are also good. Price is up there but its a lot less than $100 per person, as one reviewer has mentioned. I think saturday lunch is the best time to go.
Cintia
The manager was very rude! It was too crowded also. Not a nice atmosphere! I'll never step there again!
Mr Lad
More expensive then it seems, $100 for a smorgasboard per person. My fruit salad tasted like garlic and my chicken soup had lumps of bread in it. Yuck!
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
A solid but not spectacular smorgasbord. Reasonable variety and reasonably priced.

For $26 you get a decent spread. I’ve had better. In terms of hot food there is fried and scrambled eggs, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, sausages, baked beans, hotcakes and French toast. Another section included a variety of boxed cereals, pastries, yoghurt, fruit, bread and spreads.
Shaun
Overall, this is a really nice place to enjoy a meal amongst family and there’s a great choice of food on offer to cater to each person’s tastes. I’ve gone back a few times with my experiences being consistent to the my first time here.
