A-grade steak sanga to say the least, the pork crackling on the side was the cherry on the top the wife and I will be back, friendly service/good atmosphere/good beer on tap check it out !!
Peace & love too all
staff did an excellent job on which was a very busy Father's Day lunch time. Food was exceptional as always. Great view. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner

The famous steak sandwich lived up to its reputation and the beer was cold and delicious. The special St Patrick’s Day event was great too. A top night!
Great staff and great food and great atmosphere. Congratulations on the 2017 best Steak Sanga win, I had it yesterday and it was amazing! love the touch with crackle on the side, delish!!! :D
Nice meal nice beer. Service was excellent. what more could you ask for.
Love the view from the dining room. It overlooks where Burnett bakery was in the 50,s.
Excellent theatre over the road which I had not been to for about 40 years...oh the memories
of youth.
Overall food was great salt and pepper squid was a little blan but the amazing desserts and excellent service made up for it only negative is it was quite warm and stuffy inside but we will definatly be back!!
Great food and excellent staff such a great place to dine .
Thanks so much for a great lunch. Balloons for mum’s 81st Birthday. Food was great, steak sandwiches were a big hit and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We’ll be back soon x
First meal since arriving in Perth. Great start. Friendly staff and great food.
First time visit from out of town and the food was absolutely delicious, extremely fast service and the customer service if the staff was amazing very well looked after by your staff have been raving about our visit since!
Been wanting to try the Karalee for ages. We had a table by the window with a great view of the sunset. The antipasto share plate for entree was delicious. The steak sandwiches for mains were worth the visit. Beer was well priced and service quick and effecient
The first bite of their steak sandwich made me smile. It was delicious, steak char-grilled perfectly cooked medium rare just the way I like it. The combination of rocket, tomatoes , pepper jack cheese, and their own aioli recipe just wow. Was well worth the price too. Had the antipasto for two as well and we absolutely loved it. Sweet spicy pork was cooked so well they melted in our mouth, sourdough bread had really nice mouth watering char grilled aroma, grilled marinated prawn skewer and calamari really goes well with the chorizo and the sauce. We definitely ordered the best foods of this pub. Staffs were quick to serve and friendly too! Will come back to have the steak sandwich again for sure.
This place were very busy on the weekend. I came here for my friend birthday dinner. The foods are nice, the staffs are friendly. The food was served pretty fast. Overall it’s good experience for me.
Had a great dinner here last week, the atmosphere and vibe of the pub made it even better. Look forward to coming back and trying the tasting plate.
I came here and had the steak with pepper sauce which came with chips and salad 🥗
I must say that the steak was cooked quite well and all that was left on my plate was the days which seems a little too much!
Besides that the chips were okay but could be a little crispier but besides that it was all good food!
The place was crowded when I went and a very loud vibe!
Best steak sandwich ever. Great service and nice atmosphere too. Gets nice and busy in the restaurant. Meals were served quickly and more importantly they were hot when they arrived at the table.
Not the sort of place you would pick unless you are a local or recommended by a local.
Big open dining area, busy and vibrant.
Menu does not do justice to the quality of the food on offer.
Definitely over delivers.
Went for dinner tonight with friends and their 2 year old. We were all super impressed when they gave us a little activity pack for the toddler. It kept her pretty amused. I had the calamari and it was cooked perfectly. My partner had the chicken parmi which he enjoyed.
The service was quick and friendly. We will be back. The night was topped off with a beautiful sunset.
Great pub experience. Food was delicious - we had the steak sandwich, pork belly, risotto and calamari on our table and everyone loved all the dishes but it was the service that was the real standout. The staff were considerate, attentive and appropriate. I don't think I have experienced such great service in years and I eat out a lot. Price was good too.
I ordered the fish of the day which was a grilled barramundi with potato gratin and a salad. The fished was cooked well with the flesh flaking apart easily and the skin was crispy. Salad was nice too. Partner had the steak sandwich which in their menu they claim to have won an award for. It was a nice sandwich but not remarkable.
Menu has a lot of variety, food is always fresh and delicious and the staff are always friendly and happy. This is definitely our 'local' and such a handy place to have down the road for a quick easy meal. Consistently good!
This place always seems to be busy and especially on a Friday. I have been here now a few times for drinks and dinner. More recently was just for a quick drinks. Staff always helpful and can’t get past the fantastic view of the River. Prices for drinks seem reasonable.
While visiting jersey jacks I saw the sign 'best steak sandwich' across the road on a building. Looking for a nice lunch on this sunny day so shot down for a look. Fantastic location! The view varies from glimpses of the city to to full river. The open bifold windows made it a delight on a warm day (31deg). Steak sandwich $25 and it was large! It had great flavour and would be more than enough for any hungry human. The portion size of chips was just enough too. Will be back but will squeeze in a dessert next time
Great local pub!
You get good pub food and good service here. I had the lamb shank and it was delicious! Would recommend for a casual night out with friends or family. Much better food and value for money than any other pub in the area.
I love this pub. The beer is good, the wait staff are efficient, the food is good and especially the steak sandwich, which deserves its reputation. The views of the river and the sunset just make me really happy, thirsty and hungry, which is a dangerous combination for old fats here. The only little issue I have is with one guy in particular who has indian accent on the phone and can be rather rude at times. It might be that they get a bit stressed at times but won't stop me from going there.
Busy but great food. Antipasto good size for two. Easy Friday night or weekend cosy meal. All meals I've had here have been good and good value - not cheap but portion are big
Comfortable place, staff were lovely and even gave us a comfortable table so I could feed my baby with a little privacy. The steak sandwich really is as delicious as they say!
2015:
1. Steak Sandwich. 4/5. Good.
Thanks
Love this place being my 'local'. The food is always good and the service is friendly and attentive. You can always get a good steak here, & yummy comfort food. And let's not forget the perfect view of a sunset over the river.
Went with a large group on a busy Friday and our orders were handled really well. Great selection of dishes and specials, very generous sizes. Great service and easy going atmosphere.
Great friendly place with a decent menu. The steak sandwich is the best I've ever had, plus the other dishes are fresh, tasty and ample.
The best thing is the service, each time I've been here you feel like a valued customer and never have to wait around long. The manager seems like the loveliest guy and always has a smile on his face.
Rolled into the Karalee on what seemed to be a busy Tuesday night. My mates and one acquaintance (you know who you are) sat down for our usual midweek feed which has somewhat become a tradition. The atmosphere in the bar seemed as lively as the current Australia vs West Indies test series however it was good to see local legend Anthony Morabito being among the diners. The menu said best steak sandwich in WA so that was the go for most people.
The steak sandwich was okay, cooked well however nothing really made it standout and the chips were a little over done for my likely. Not the best steak sandwich in WA in my opinion.
Overall a pleasant dining experience for a Tuesday night but nothing really makes me want to go back as it just seemed pretty standard.
I love this hidden treasure…Great locals bar and better option to the windsor…food is on point and views are great..You need to try their steak sandwich

Great place to catchup for afterwork drinks and am a really big fan of their steak sandwiches!
Lovely staff and service and have had no baf experiences over many visits.
Love the food and goes very well with view and service, well done, keep up a good work...tried new winter menu with family, lamb shank and southern style butter milk fried chicken salad😋
Bit disappointed in the steak sandwich, quite bland, other than that was alright experience food took a while to arrive but was busy at time, would come to try something else next time
Amazing steak sandwich see why it won the best of 2014. Also they have regular specials on pints and to top it off great service and nice atmosphere.
We stopped in for the first time for lunch on a Sunday and I ordered the Lamb & Rosemary Burger and my partner ordered the Steak Sandwich. Both meals were served on a wooden board with the crispy beer battered chips in wire baskets. The Burger was really yummy and you could taste the rosemary throughout. Along with the cooked onion the burger also had beetroot, melted swiss cheese and delicious mint taztiki. The steak sandwich is massive and the small bit of steak I tried was nice and tender. Really nice setting with the huge windows and views. Also large screens for the sports fans. We will be back.
Athomas. Booked for 20 people on Mothers Day. Was a bit worried that service would be slow . The night was fantastic. Lovely food, great service, can not complain about anything. The manager was very attentive and organised, hence the night went off without a hitch. Highly recommend. The good was excellent. Will keep going back.
Could not ask for a better place. Went to Karalee on Preston for the second time on Sunday night as my friend and I had to try their 2014 Steak Sandwich of the Year again before the new winner was announced in May.
We made the mistake of also having the Antipasto for Two as entree...or did we? The Antipasti was awesome! Pork belly, chorizo, tiger prawns, squid, toast and some sort of delicious spread. By the time we had gobbled the entire plate between the two of us we had to wait a while and make room for our steak sandwiches.
When the steak sandwiches came out they were just as good as I remembered them the first time. Chips done to crispy perfection, turkish bread nicely toasted with cheese and bacon oozing out of the side as well as a beautifully cooked piece of steak - not overdone, with a glimmer of red down the middle. The only minor complaint I have was that there is not enough tomato sauce served with the chips - had to steal my compatriot's share.
It was a struggle to finish it all, but we did.
Overall, service is fantastic, each time we finished our glasses or plates there was a waiter/waitress there taking them away or asking if we would like a refill.
A+
Very Nice. I went there today for my 39th Birthday and we had a good time.Service was good and all staff had a smile on there face,They have big Screens with Sport on them.Drinks and meals were not bad priced and the Parma was delicious.
Nice steak sandwhich and good service. We went to Karalee for lunch on the weekend and were made welcome by the friendly staff (+1 for child friendly staff). I tried the famed steak sandwich, which did not disappoint. (sidenote: can burger places stop placing a skewer through burgers to hold them together - when you grab on, the sauce always seems to ooze through the hole from the skewer. My partner had the fish of the day which was well fried. The chips are very crispy and a hit all round - a bit too much salt though.
We felt that the sides of salad and vegetables were poor quality, compared to the rest. Some of the broccoli florets and beans were yellow. The veges were probably prepared much earlier (or day before) as they just looked dry and unappetizing. The salad leaves were fresh. We didn't raise this to the staff at the time.
The prices are comparable to establishments of similar quality and surroundings (not cheap to eat out these days), but the serving sizes are quite large. We noticed that the kids meals are quite enormous and reasonably priced at $12. The amount of chips in the kids meal is looked close to double that of the adult meal serve. Both deliciously unhealthy and attractive for the child seagulls.
We'd go back, for the friendly service and try some other dishes.
Always good. I've been going to the Karalee every so often for the past 3 or so years and it never disappoints. After another lovely lunch on the weekend I thought I should write a review. A group of 8 of us went, all ordering differently and everyone was raving about their meals. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to shift tables around to fit us in. The chef came out to ask if our meals were ok - not ok - they were delicious. The steak sandwich is amazing!!!
LUNCH AT KARALEE ON PRESTON. Excellent food and service with great views of the river. We ordered Pork Belly which was beautifully cooked and presented and 'man-sized'. The wait staff were great, very attentive. Definately making a return visit!!
Highly recommended!!
A real Tavern ... The Karalee is a winner... there is a real buzz whenever you go there. Its a cross between a sports bar and a lounge bar and a great atmosphere. Bar service is the best in the area and whatever they are doing there, both the Windsor and Como pubs both need to take note. Its clean, staff are friendly and prices are normal unlike others. A great place to go and feel comfortable... only downside there is no outside area for non smokers buts ok.. its a great place.
Fest on Prest on. Fond memories of the Karalee from back in the day. I would see my school teachers congregate here for their Friday swim thru and the bottle o would serve us local kids every time, that was @1980.
Anyhow fast forward 3o years, had a charming lunch with 5 others. Meals came out together, tick for that. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered . Portions were good, salads fresh and presentation great.. Friendly efficient staff with an "hands on" manager got the job done. A bit pricey but when it is good and the place is so spotlessly clean you dont mind so much. Busy place, not surprised, thanks.
Excellent service, the young girls are polite and very willing to assist. Food is good, no complaints. Only grumble, the decor is dated and the pub takes little advantage of the views.
Loved it, saw on TV voted the best steak sandwich.., came down and wow for sure simply the best... Footy, beer and the best steak sandwich in town... Loved it...
Favorite Pub Meals. We go there all the time for family dinners and sometimes on a Friday night and who wouldn't with $10 cocktails and they are pretty dame tasty. The menu is always good and would recommend going there for a meal. Keep up the good work

Great to have a good local. Consistently good food. Great during footy season with multiple big screens.
Excellent meal top quality will be going back grear pork belly and rib eye thankyou
Faultless. Had lunch there. Staff were friendly, efficient and professional. Food was served in a timely fashion and was delicious. We had scotch fillet with green peppercorn sauce which was cooked to perfection, also mushroom risotto with truffle oil - again, perfection. Just the right amount of truffle oil. Far exceeded my expectations for a pub lunch.
Very friendly staff, couldn't do enough for you. Lovely food, very well presented, great view and atmosphere.
Daily Specials. The daily specials at the Karalee are now great. . I've had the American ribs and the Moreton bay bugs recently and they were excellent. I have heard they have a new Chef who has been there a few months and is obviously making a difference here. Worth a visit I reckon.
Reasonable Meal. The food and service are not outstanding but nothing to complain.
The restaurant is located in a elevated point so the window view from one side (facing west) is quite open. Unfortunately we were not sitting on that side. Also the blind might close to block the sun in the afternoon or evening.
Can imagine it might be a crowded place during weekend due to its pub and location.

Generally satisfying pub grub. "Little Dessert Spoon" and I have been going to the Karalee for years now. It's a friendly, unpretentious pub/restaurant that generally serves up tasty and generous meals. Whilst their track record is pretty good overall, it must be said that a disappointing meal occasionally slips out of the kitchen.
The meals I've had include the pork belly (generous portion, with a tasty crispy skin), the steak sandwich (good and filling) and the rib-eye steak (ordered medium rare, but unfortunately served medium-well). The salt and pepper squid was served as delicious lightly battered squid pieces one night, then as bog-standard squid rings on the next visit (not sure what was going on there). The chips (good, classic, beer-battered chunky fries) are always a delight though.
The desserts are generally excellent - a big piece of Karalee lemon meringue pie is one of Como's simple pleasures. Just pick out what looks good from the cake display.
You won't find culinary perfection at the Karalee, but you'll (generally) find good, satisfying pub grub that'll leave you with a full stomach and a smile on your face. Just be prepared for the occasional average night.
WHAT A GREAT VENUE - BEST IN COMO !!!. Found the place to have great views, very affordable drink prices & the meals were better than any other pub we have been to. The place is more than a pub, it feels like a warm local with a restuarant feel.
11/10 the Karalee - definately will be back.
Unpretentiously pleasant. Karalee on Preston, or as it might be more honestly called, the Karalee Tavern, is a good, solid venue for a good, solid pub restaurant meal. I made excellent progress through the Scotch Fillet, an honest cut of meat cooked exactly as requested, although not greatly aided by a fairly innocuous mushroom sauce, accompanied by quite acceptable chips (no, they are not fries, because Perth is not located in the USA, no matter how many battleships are parked at Garden Island), and a smart little salad (if you're the unfortunate kind of person who enjoys such things). My Beloved had the same except for the sirloin with green peppercorn sauce. And most of my salad. Our glasses of Coonawarra house red were adequate but I wouldn't die in a ditch to have them again. One plus, a pleasant view through the upper floor windows across the Swan River, very enjoyable when accompanied by a rare beautiful Perth sunset. Another plus, the charming art deco Cygnet cinema is just across the road. A third plus, good service and attentive staff. One minus, the plates were cold, a basic shortcoming that is distressingly all-too familiar even in better venues. A blowtorch could be applied to the rear parts of all chefs committing this Restaurant 101 faux pa, in my not particularly humble opinion. Therefore, before we finished, our steaks were also cold. Overall though, thoroughly acceptable for what it is. We've been before and we'll come again -- probably before watching a movie as we did on this occasion.
Really solid Australian pub food (steak, chicken, fish). Tasty and not overdone as a lot of pubs seem to do (the masterchef effect).
What sets the Karalee apart is its attentive friendly staff. Great for the kids too.
5 stars. Really welcoming atmosphere. Staff were able to recommend a good wine based on our tastes and the steaks were cooked perfectly. Overall a fantastic view of the river, good food and very helpful service.
Very generous entree, and delicious mushroom soup. Friendly and helpful staff - what more could you want!
Had lunch here with 6 people, generally the waitstaff were polite and attentive. The floor manager however was rude and almost aggressive when we sent back a meal as it was the wrong one. He immediately stormed over and argued with us that that was what we ordered and needed to give him more money for what we actually wanted. Definitely put a dampener on the lunch. Overall couldn't complain about the food, pity all these refurbished pubs think they can charge restaurant prices though while serving pub food.
Warm and Fuzzy. Good produce, fast service, reasonable pricing, clean and warm atmosphere, attentive staff etc.
Well done Karalee well be back.
Good food, once it arrived. I've been to the Karalee several times for drinks and it's a nice environment with decent prices.
A few of us went there the other night for drinks which lead into dinner. It was a Friday night and quite busy so we were happy to have a couple of rounds while waiting for food. After about 45 mins though we wandered over to see how much longer the meals were going to be, and it seems that somehow our food had disappeared into the ether.
The food manager asked if we could wait at the table while they took a look - the main manager was over a couple of minutes later and he apologised for what had happened and comp'd us a round of drinks which made it ok (seeing as we weren't in any rush). He also had our entrees out in the next couple of minutes, and the mains cooking straight away.
So a bit disappointing that the first order disappeared, however they handled it well once it was brought to their attention and the meals were good when they arrived.
Good meal. We also had the bangers and mash and the pork belly. No complaints other than peas would have complemented the bangers. Big meals. Friendly service.
We'll be back. We dropped in for a quick meal before going to the movies at the Cygnet! The service was fast and friendly. The Karalee is a lovely space with windows that actually open and a variety of seating options including a tiny outside dining area.
I ordered pork belly with red cabbage and my husband had bangers & mash. My pork belly piece was huge - half the size would have been ample and came with a whole apple on top - a few slices artfully arranged would have been slightly more sophisticated! However the meat was beautiful - a nice thick piece (which I find difficult to buy at my usual meat outlets) and the cabbage was delicious - sweet but tangy.
My hubby declared that the bangers were some of the best he'd ever had - high praise. His mash was delicious!
For dessert we had coffee and a piece of cake to share. I hadn't told the girl who took the dessert order that it was to share but, obviously due to previous dessert incidents, it came out with 2 sets of cutlery.
We were really happy with the service, and the quality of the food. If they could just get the smokers to go & do their stuff somewhere else it would be perfect!
Really good service. The guy paul running the place is a real nice guy, knows his stuff and gave us excellent customer service. Food a tad pricey but i like the homely feel.
Friends have spoken about the Karalee for months.
Very impressed staff were lovely, orders were taken quickly.
I've been told that the Karalee had the best steak sandwich, and yez they did, steak was tender, bread was light and easy to eat, the relish was to die for.
Chilly muscles had the right amount of chilly.
Garlic prawns were good, can't go wrong with them
Over all, lovely meals,
And best steak sandwich
Cale provides absolutely grand service - a great conversationalist & is fantastic at his job.
Very professional, the meals are generous in size too.
Feels wonderful to get some outstanding service in these times. Would recommend.

Great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. The food was fantastic. My wife had the garlic prawns with basmati rice and I had bangers and mash. Both were very good.
Good food, quick service, big portion sizes. Their steak sandwich is also worth mentioning, definitely one of the best ones around.
Holy moly, what an amazing place to eat at! The food was probably the tastiest food I've had in Perth, and for an amazing price! Had the Lamb Shanks, Garlic Prawns and the Pork Belly. Cannot recommend this place enough, can't wait to go back!
Friendly bar staff is always a great start. We shared a steak sandwich and it’s as good as they say. The chips are good too. I’m just sorry we didn’t get a photo, too hungry to wait.
I like that you can walk in and grab a table, order drinks and food when you are ready and it’s all reasonably priced
Great place!
Lunched with friends at Karalee on Preston yesterday. Service excellent, wait staff so attentive and even asked if our meal (huge!) was satisfactory.
Had to return when I lost an earring (suspect it was outside when I removed mask) and again girls were so helpful.
Will visit again.
