Good reliable pub food. Actually that’s probably not fair because the food is a level above a pub, more a gastro pub.
Best to grab a few dishes and share them amongst your table... as there are a few winners on the list.
Only gave it four stars because on the night I was there the service was a bit tardy... might have just got a bad night
It’s had a bit of a makeover upstairs and you can get fabulous restaurant food - unfortunately you can’t order bar food at the upstairs dining area, but that was no loss for us. Amazing crab risotto, chicken schnitzel and 10/10 for the spiced pork roll. Mains were amazing, service was attentive and friendly. The desserts weren’t as impressive as the mains but will definitely be back. Bar (both upstairs and downstairs) were fabulous as always.
What a great establishment! We ate at the restaurant upstairs and we were all very impressed. Fantastic decor with a clever design with acoustic panels so you can have a conversation despite the soaring ceiling. We all thoroughly enjoyed our delicious meals...the crab risotto was an outstanding dish! The accompanying salads were freshly prepared and different from the usual green leaves thrown on the side of the plate. The staff were attentive and professional. Well worth a visit.
Enjoyed the meals we ordered from " The Glaze " menu. Staff were helpful and the cost was not over the top. Will definitely return. Setting was pleasant.
Great place for a drink with friends, good vibe seriously under rated. Food looks good will be back to try. Honestly only down is can be hard getting a drink when busy.
The atmosphere here on a friday night is pumping with a dj. I'm glad we booked a table as the down stairs was so busy with people having after work drinks. We decided to order lots of share items which were all large sizes and all every delicious, one of our friends is dairy free and they were able to accommodate for us.
Great service and great food... lamb was delicious and everyone in my group very happy... great atmosphere... good value with entertainment book offer...will be back
Beautiful interiors and exteriors. Greenery outside and all the old school exposed brick - so good! Booked in for lunch for my birthday with family today and our waiter was Aaron (?). He was brilliant. Really friendly and attentive and even had my cranky Dad laughing. Food was beautiful. Gnocchi was like cloud pillow’s - just as it should be. Fried Mac & Cheese was epic - so crisp and rich and crunchy. Bangers and Mash although sure a simple dish was too good - great choice of banger used. Steaks were cooked beautifully. Dessert a treat too. Had a great time and will def be back!
Lovely venue in the city. The share platter was definitely enough for two. The arancini balls were really yummy. The pate smooth and sliders really yummy.
Good atmosphere for any occasion.
Have only come here for cocktails with a friend, but every time I've felt very welcome and cared for by staff. They're attentive to allergy information, make an excellent Aviation cocktail, and security make sure that when people are getting a little too excited after a few beers, everyone stays safe.
The decor is lovely, and it's definitely worth sitting under the fairy lights after dark if the night is clear.
Great cocktails, great food, and beautiful atmosphere! The stables bar is not just a great modern bar, with a vivacious Friday night, it’s upstairs restaurant is equally as impressive! While I generally find myself going for the cocktails, I’m always impressed with their mains and nibbles.
Great setting with numerous meeting and dining settings. Quality, scrumptious food and good service. Good upmarket dining for both lunch and dinner. Handy for those work lunches and get togetherness for city folk.
Company had our EOFY lunch at the stables, I ordered the salmon for the main and for the dessert chocolate mousse, brownie, and coffee ice cream.
Salmon was perfectly cooked, love it would't mind having a second serving.
Chocolate mousse, this dish is too sweet for my liking. Most of my colleague didn't finish the mousse because it was too rich and sweet. Ice cream was good and perfectly paired with the brownie.
Will definitely be back to have dinner on the second floor where it is not that loud and quiet.
What a cool place. Great stable-themed decor and delicious food. We had the chilli calamari and arancini for entrée. I probably didn't read the me properly and was expecting the usual crumbed calamari. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a fresh salad with delicious pieces of plain but beautifully cooked and tender calamari. It was a much better start to a meal than the usual fries offering. The arancini was also delicious. For main course I chose the Cone Bay barramundi which was cooked to perfection. The fennel salad was fresh and delicious. I'm not sure about the raviolo - it had a strong flavour that didn't really go with the other items on the plate. The filling was fennel and shellfish but the cooked fennel and shellfish combo was just too strong for me. Overall, however a delicious meal. There was a great choice of wines which were generally of a standard where it was safe to just have the house wine. I highly recommend this place.
Tried their Roast Pork Belly Bites and the House Baked Ricotta Bruschetta. The pork belly was absolutely amazing, the soft and tender pork belly with the crunch of the crackleing and the amazing addition of the kimchi apple slaw were matched made in heaven! The bruschetta was also really good but the pork belly was a stand out dish. Also really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere at this restaurant and loved the interior.
Love this place to visit with friends, vibe is great and friendly. Food is really nice and big servings. Bar staff always recommend a good drop!
The scene of another pre-Fringe dinner this week was the Stables bar – situated in a laneway off Hay Street and apparently one of the City’s original horse stables, now restored and adapted to house of the Perth’s better bar/restaurants. A shaded outdoor area downstairs leads into a bar area, while upstairs you have the choice of sitting inside or out on a balcony protected by umbrellas and on the hot evening we ventured past cooling mist sprays. Acknowledging the heat we sat in!
Been wanting to try this place out for awhile now and only found a great opportunity to eat & drink here for a friend's birthday. It was great upstairs with service and drinks. Probably a great spot to be able to enjoy food and drinks with a lot of chatting & laughter. I enjoyed upstairs more than downstairs in the bar area. But like most places you can't really sit all night and everything is timed.
I do think the cocktails served upstairs was much better than the ones served downstairs in the bar. Food was okay but we weren't hungry just peckish.
On another note, perhaps they could check up on the maintenance in the toilets as there was no toilet tissue in the female toilets apart from paper hand towels.
Awesome place, reasonable priced food, and delicious. Me and my two friends enjoyed beef brisket sliders, turkish bread and dip, octopus salad, and hand cut chips. If you have reserved a table, you will be directed to go upstairs. After we finished, we enjoyed more cocktails downstairs while listening to good music. We were lucky enough to come here early as it does get very busy(Saturday Night).
Have eaten here a couple of times. The food is decent enough for what is essentially a drinking establishment. You could do worse on a Friday Afternoon.
Good was ok. Mac and cheese bites lacked taste but ambiance and service was great. Well dressed and behaved customers which is great for a weekend night out without getting drinks spilt on your clothes or shoved and pushed
We loved everything about this place ! Nice location in the back of a non creepy alley, great size, it's quite comfy in there. The staff is very friendly and attentive, service is fast and the food is amazingly good. We got shared plates and they were worth it ! Would definitely go back !
Came here for a function. Quite impressed with the selection of food and drinks. My favourite is the arancini balls. The pork for the mains was cooked very well. Just needed a bit more sauce. The dessert was just delicious. Super rich with chocolate!
Good for after work drinks on a week day. Particularly busy on Fridays, as you'd expect. It's spacious and has several spaces for use. The menu is perfect for sharing and changes frequently, apart from the favourites.
Not my favourite bar but good for large groups.
Like the look of this bar, very cool. Cocktails are always delish.
Went here last night for a group function. The food, drinks and vibe was great. The service was friendly, but confused. When we got there we were asked if we wanted to order drinks, we asked for a few more minutes and then about 30 seconds later another person came and asked us if we wanted to order drinks. They split the group on to 2 tables without informing the host/person who booked. They miscalculated the amount of slices of cake to prepare and then to top it off they messed the bill up! Despite this confusion, a pleasant experience. Think the team needs a bit more cohesion is all. :)
This bar has a gorgeous design! Very rustic and charismatic. It is usually packed on a Saturday night and we had to wait 30minutes in line to get in. Even then we couldn't get a table or seat. The bar was very hard to get service at, simply due to the sheer number of people, but the service we did receive was great.
Oh my goodness - the Mac & cheese bites is probably one of the best entrees I've ever eaten EVER! The cheesiness mixed with pumpkin and battered in bread crumbs is an unbeatable combination. I also tried their arancinis, which I thought were rather average/dry. Drinks are always spot on - had a great espresso martini.
My favourite time to visit Stables is a weeknight after work. It's a nice place to chill, great wine and cocktail list and delicious food. They change up their menu often but the chicken liver pate with fresh baked brioche is a staple on the menu and it's good! The gnocchi is another favourite of mine.
Friday it's super busy and can be quite loud but the service is still really quick. The only time I've had a bad experience at Stables was at their Melbourne Cup event where we paid over $100 for a ticket and got very little in return. The tapas menu sounded amazing but we hardly got to try much of the food as there just wasn't enough to go around.
I like the ambiance but it's impossible to stand comfortably on a Friday or Saturday night, it just gets too busy. Even when I try to go upstairs, everyone is mostly shoulder to shoulder there too! Drinks and service is good, finger foods are acceptable so my only wish is there to be a solution to the crampness!
Welcoming and efficient staff, delicious food and a great selection of well priced drinks. Would strongly recommend the steak - cooked to perfection!
This place is a must! Service very attentive. Good selection of both food & drinks. They have taken advantage of the historical charm of the building & it's definitely got a lovely atmosphere. Food was delicious and prices were very reasonable!! The Tasting Plate is a must & the items on it change daily.
Fabulous venue for a drink downstairs or high quality meal upstairs. Food was incredible. Restaurant was much larger than I was expecting so not jammed in. Both floors can get a bit loud but that's ok its not fine dining. Highly recommended
I'd only ever been to the Stables once for a drink quite some time ago. It was on a crowded Friday night and it didn't really leave much of an impression, so my expectations for lunch earlier this week were not high. Happily they were well exceeded.
The restaurant upstairs has a lovely spacious feel - high ceilings, wide open doors and comfortable seating - a lovely spot on a mild day. Service was very friendly and attentive.
We shared a baked gnocchi with goat curd and mint, roasted heirloom carrots with a tahini yoghurt and some very crispy fries with a smoky mayonnaise - all well put together and presented (not that you can see that in the photo - I mostly only remember to take rather poor photos part way through the meal!) and lovely flavour combinations.
I would however, go back just for the the corn manchego arancini - sensational little flavour bombs and had I not been shouting a birthday lunch for a friend, would have eaten them all myself and then ordered another plateful.
I thought prices were very reasonable - the dishes above plus a large bottle of mineral water came to just over $60 - well worth it.
The Stables is a great centrally located bar in the CBD. We had a table on the upper floor and had an amazing view of the city skyline.
I'm also a huge fan of the cocktail menu and the general atmosphere .
I am looking forward to getting back to try out the food soon!
The lamb rump was too pink for me but the accompanying chorizo was beautiful. The barramundi was cooked to perfection. The duck confit salad was excellent.
First time at stables the food was excellent service also very good will definitely go back again this is without doubt one of the best restaurants in the city shared the tasting plate for starters which something I never have normally but being first timers at Stables thought would try for a change chefs choice for this one great choice as well mains slow cooked beef short ribs very nice partner had fillet steak also very nice the potatoes with the steak where some of the best ever had definitely worth a visit
Went to their Mix it Up vol5 cocktail degustation lunch. Great pairings and a great lunch in a great location. The cocktails were really well put together. And the alcoholic churro dips were a really interesting dessert. Best course was the scallops and with the 36 and sunny. Can't wait for the next one
Nice food, nice place. Would only come here for the lunch specials or grazing menu however as its a bit overpriced otherwise in my opinion. It is good food though
I've been to the Stables Bar many times, and usually just ordered tapas food, I love the wine list, I love the cocktails, staff and venue and vibe is all awesome.
Recently, however, I thought we'd try the mains...................................................... I very rarely send compliments to the kitchen and IT WAS AMAZING! I had the pork belly and it was so reasonably priced and tasted beautiful, the elements on the plate were generous and well-balanced. I enjoyed it so much I went the next week to test out the theory, ordered the lamb shanks, and again was not disappointed.
Thank you for being a young vibed bar, with well-priced good comfort food. Much love xx
Love the place, excellent décor and ambiance. There was good and not so good but overall we had an enjoyable lunchtime. Staff were great. Brans, the maître d', and our waiter both looked after us very well. The waiter showed genuine interest in our criticisms and obviously cared about doing his job well. And he refused a tip - you don't get that every day. The food was ok but not brilliant. We like the menu. Plenty of variety and it's inventive. Presentation of the food was good but some of it lacked oomph and flavor. For example, the nuoc cham with the soft shell crab, which should be chili hot and full of flavor, was quite bland. Also the batter on the crab was a bit thick and chewy. The crab meat itself was good. We also had the Stables Tasting Plate, which again was ok but a bit short on flavor, and the banh mi (similar story). They have a good winelist and a good selection of beers on tap. That's always a plus for me. Very strange acoustics - very loud, as mentioned by other reviewers. Very hard to hear your partner but you can clearly hear conversations three tables away. Despite our criticisms of the food, it was a very enjoyable experience and the waiter played a big part in that (along with the ambiance, and the lovely beer and wine.....). They only have to improve the food a bit to become a favourite.
Like the vibe and the food, it's just a little loud here, and that's even comparing it as a pub. Really struggled to have a conversation (outside and in) when grabbing a few drinks and food. Would't come here for a sit down dinner but drinks and tapas next time.
First impression - I've been here before it's still bloody loud! $18 for tiny cocktail oh yeah that's right I'm in Perth. Dinner upstairs still bloody loud! Soft shell crab yum, pork & pineapple tacos yummy, food good...still bloody loud...
If Prince Harry visits the Stables then it must be good. Since it was also my birthday my friends and I. wanted to go somewhere nice. it being a sunny lunch time we were quickly shown a table outside a table. It. took a while to choose what to eat as there the menu was relatively extensive. always like unusual food so I went for the Pigs Ears which I had never tried
Overpriced. Service is good though. Food is alright.
Not as tasty as it looks

On our previous visit to the Stables we were tempted by the wagon wheel dessert but overindulged with our other dishes and couldn’t manage it – this time we were determined to avoid that mistake. And we did, just!. For those who came in late, the Stables is situated at the end of a laneway off Hay Street, just up the road from Shafto Lane. The building apparently one of the City’s original horse stables, has been restored and adapted to its role as one of the new breed of bar restaurants around town.
Visted The Stables for lunch on Thursday and loved the food. It was interesting and well presented. I really the location of this bar as it felt part of the city but not part of the hustle and bustle of the CBD.
The staff are attentive to the point of being annoying but they are told to be so by their managers
Been here twice for evening drinks. Always pumping this place. Big place with alfresco area. They got knowledgable bartenders that make seriously good cocktails with fresh juices and quality spirits. I had the lemon meringue pie and appletini. Both house creations and classics are done very nicely. Good place for a quality cocktail.
New menu is amazing!. I had been before and found the food a bit too interesting for my liking, but loving their new menu! I've tried the arancini balls (amazing) the lamb koftas and the duck which were all really yummy! Especially loved the barley risotto! Very extensive wine and cocktail list (final fantasy was very yummy). Service is great, food came out quickly the only complaint is that it is rather loud in the restaurant even when its not that busy, the sound seems to bounce off every wall!
Wasn't too bad, wasn't too good either. Service was decent, you don't get ignored by the bar and there's always a hidden table somewhere pointed out by a happy waiter. Food was not exceptional, but it was good. Highly recommend the zucchini chips as they were something different and delish. A few wobbly bits of furniture were a bit annoying. They also don't serve mains on Saturdays, not sure why, they need to have a sign instead of letting customers sit there and decide what mains to order as they're really hungry just to be told later that they can only have share plates.
Impressive great selection and well set out great spot for a drink or a meal... Back for sure staff Magic as well..
Giddiup! Have eaten here a few times and it never fails to please. Delicious food, great service and awesome cocktails. Love the barramundi!
Nice atmosphere and good food. I enjoyed our Monday evening at the Stables Bar, eating from the all day grazing menu and drinking a couple of glasses of champagne. Beautifully presented bar with a nice casual feel in the front courtyard area. Staff were friendly and food was good.
Pulled pork sliders were delicious. Will have to return for the dinner menu, slow roasted pork hock - yes!
Wonderful Night Had. Wonderful food, good wine, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Had our anniversary dinner here and could not have asked for anything more. It was amazing :)
Upmarket bar. Very clever bar - this place is very popular on a Friday afternoon for drinks and the owners have certainly come up with what is missing in Perth - an upmarket bar / pub that has nice food to accompany it. This place is just around the corner from my work so a usual lunch and after work hang out for us. The bar menu is quite unique and offers some great tastes - have had the sliders, chips, whiting. All very nice, expect the chips were a bit soggy - I think they were pre cooked as it was quite busy. The fact that they can pull table service off in such a busy place is quite remarkable actually. Upstairs, we've had lunch and dinner and the menu is quite extensive. I've had the quinoa salad, barmamundi and paella. Everything was very tasty and reasonably priced. The staff are a bit hit and miss but you don't really notice them if you're in a big group catching up. Have had the wagon wheel for desert which is a fav of mine, which I highly recommend, the sorbet is just enough tangy to make your mouth water and go back for me. Really modern and diverse menu.
Great Event. Had my recent birthday at the Stables. I had a great time!
In the lead-up, Olivia was responsive to my queries. It was all pretty low-key and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. So many places I called in Perth made holding any event either too hard (no bookings on a Saturday, etc) or too expensive (minimum spend per head for catering).
I was allocated a great little area downstairs to hang out with my guests, and the staff on the night were sure to check in with me about how I'd like the food to come out. I'd pre-ordered some platters, mini-sliders, aranchini and I think some cauliflower fritters. The food was fantastic - all my guests enjoyed it.
I will (and have already...) recommend The Stables Bar to any friends or colleagues planning a low-key, minimum-fuss delicious event in the future!
As we made a booking late in the day our group had to take a 6pm seating, although the restaurant/bar were already busy the staff were very accommodating. Our waitress for the evening had only been employed for 2 days and unfortunately mixed up our order however the Duty Manager was quick to apologise and compensate for the inconvenience with complimentary wine. The food served was tasty and wholesome - happily return.
Great lemon lime bitter!! Big tall glass $4 and not from schweppes bottle. Cocktails ave $18/19. Got the FTD - Fresh To Death.. Not the best cocktail in town, hardly taste any alcohol.. Didnt get any food coz ate prior to coming.. But the menu looks great, lots of good affordable option.. Couple friends got some food like chicken pie, fried gnocchi.. Looks great but quite small serving.. Excellent service all round, from the nicest bar lady to the friendly attentive wait staff, tables and glass cleared quickly.. I like this place, great place to hang out..
Great night out. I went out for dinner with some work colleagues on a Thursday night. When entering the Stables Bar it was quite packed. Despite this, we received great service from the wait staff who were quite attentive. The decor of the Stables is very fresh and I like the ambient background music.
We had a few entree dishes which were all quite delicious and reasonably priced. In particular I loved the gnocchi dish. Everyone on my table enjoyed their dishes. I definitely recommend the stables bar for anyone who wants a new trendy restaurant to try.

Cool bar with cool people! Great for tapas and drinks trendy relaxed atmosphere with prompt service-the in place for perth if you wanna be the in crowd
Drinks and Dessert was great. I've mainly only been here for drinking and its a good location with lots of areas to choose from both up and downstairs! The other night I ended up having a dessert and I must say it was great! It was called "deconstructed wagon wheel" or something similar (too many drinks first sorry)... It was delicious and you really could taste the wagon wheel in there. Beautiful chocolately crumb and little dots of meringue etc. Its very clever...
Trendy, decent.. A friend and I were looking to grab lunch on Friday, and I thought I'd take him to The Stables Bar, a place I consider to be pretty cool having drunk there before but never eaten. He has done a fair bit of travelling and loves checking out eateries and he appreciates cool decor, something Stables has that fits in nicely with the history of the venue; pre-hospitality era.
We were greeted by a cute chick on the door who asked us what we were after, and sat us down with some menus, returning afterwards to take our order. Having recently frequented a couple of venues in Perth who either didn't have table service, or greeted you, brought you menus and then told you to place your order at the bar, it was nice to be looked after again. Staff gave us time to check out the menu's, took our drinks orders and returned for our food orders since I hadn't decided what to go for.
I was stuck between a couple dishes from the all day grazing menu (cool concept, love tapas style eateries) or the fish of the day. I am not a great lover of fish unless it's white, and the pan fried gold snapper with israeli cous cous and seared cuttlefish (not a huge fan of cuttlefish) caught my eye - and for 29$ was too good to turn down, with most venues charging in excess of 33$ for a fish dish, and this had two proteins. My mate went for their steak, 300g scotch, root veg & mushroom ketchup (interesting) priced at $34 - about average for a steak in Perth.
The dishes came out, cool plates, cutlery in tow. I did ask for salt and pepper but the girl who brought the food out was busy running food, and turns out neither of us needed it anyway because it was perfectly seasoned, and I had a lemon wedge with mine which went down a treat too. My fish was cooked wicked, crispy outside, moist in the middle and well seasoned - went great with the cous-cous which had carrot and zucchini tossed through it amongst other things. Cuttlefish I am not that fond of, and only really eat it deep fried, but it was cooked well also, wasn't rubbery as it sometimes can be, and took on the flavour of the rest of the dish. My risk in choosing the fish item paid off, i was very happy with my meal.
The steak was inhaled, nothing was left. Steak doesn't really get me excited, it's hard to mess one up in my opinion and I rarely order it when i eat out, but Rich was happy and enjoyed his meal. We knocked our food down with an IPA and a cider - although I was pretty bummed to hear that they no longer stock Kirin; Stables being the first place I learnt of this Japanese import cider - its amazing.
Both of us had a good lunch, service was efficient and friendly, and the music was decent. He never got a chance to see the interior upstairs, but that's all good because we'll be going there for drinks before he leaves. We're fans, its unlikely you'll be disappointed if you venture here.
Sydney visitors loved it. Last night we took our friends from Sydney, to The Stables Bar. Although it was Friday evening and extremely busy, the staff couldn't have done anymore to accommodate 4 older patrons. We sat downstairs as the upstairs was fully booked for a private function. They found us a quieter corner near the fire and thoroughly looked after us. The food was delicious and filling. Our Sydney friends were so impressed with the service and quality of food, that they will be making a daytime visit in the next few days, to really appreciate and take in this lovely restored building. Thanks you
Went for a work lunch. Service was really good. Food not bad, nice for a bar. Servings were really generous. We all enjoyed our meals.
Randomly chose the stables for a quick drink and bite to eat as my sister and friend flew out the next morning and wanted an early nite. went on a wednesday at about 7pm and after telling the staff member that we didn't have a reservation were seated downstairs in the bar area. the service was attentive, in fact a lot a of places could learn from the stables and the atmosphere was chilled out. we ordered from the sharing menu (i recommend the goat croquettes - yum!) and also ordered cocktails (love love the warm apple pie). definately returning =)
Love the cocktails!. Came for a couple of drinks with friends - nice atmosphere! Have forgotten the name but the watermelon cocktail and the sangria jug was lovely! Only downside was how long the wait was for our cocktails but other than that enjoyed it!
Food was good, service was great. We went for dinner on a Saturday night with friends. From the booking over the phone to receiving the bill at the end of the night, the service was great. Sometimes hard to find at the moment. The main girl that was looking after us would find out information regarding allergies with no problems and all the staff were attentive and friendly all night.
The food was also pretty good. I had the special short rib which didn't look like much food when it came out but I couldn't finish it. The meat was rich and tender and I loved the pickled veg. My hubby enjoyed his Salmon although is was a little too rare for him... just a few more seconds and it would have been perfect. Everyone else on the table also enjoyed their meals. My only let down on the food side was the dessert. It was OK but not what I had imagined from the description.
My only negative was the noise level. obviously it was a Saturday night and a noisy night with a DJ and lots of people. We were seated near the front of the venue so the noise from downstairs came straight up the stairwell and it made it very very hard to have a conversation. I assume this would have been different if we were seated at the back. Maybe a heavy curtain or something at that end of the restaurant would help to deaden the noise a little??
Nice. Went to The Stables Bar last night for dinner. It was good, but not amazing. The atmosphere was nice, a little bit loud though, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the gnocchi and wagon wheel. The wagon wheel was the highlight, it was actually really nice, maybe one of the best desserts i have had.. it was deconstructed so there was chocolate mousse, i think raspberry gelato, strawberries and little meringues on top of crumbled chocolate biscuit. We had a great night here, nice food, nice atmosphere, so i will be going back to this place :)
This place is definitely my favourite place to go in Perth. The food is creative and amazing, the staff couldn't do more for you to make your time there more enjoyable. The atmosphere is just fab, very modern and funky! Dined there for a friends birthday last Friday and what a fabulous day/evening (as we didn't want to leave) we had, beautiful classy lunch followed by drinks and great vibes downstairs from the DJ! Hats off to the owners who have given Perth a fab place to go!
Great food, with changes to the menu regularly. Staff extremely helpful and friendly and a fab wine list. A bit too crowded on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner but there's a great vibe there then so "glass half full" sort of thing. Definitely recommended.
Great experience. Four oldies for lunch, all impressed with reception and staff in general (friendly, knowledgeable and attentive). Impressed with the food, we'll presented and tasty. Will definitely return.
Awesome night with a great atmosphere wonderful attentive staff although being fully booked on a Tuesday. We had eggplant chips, goat, paella & gnocchi all incredible although on the smaller size meals, but that meant we could fit desert. The Desert Tasting plate was brilliant, loved the choc mousse & variations if Gellati. If the goat had a gravy & paella had punch we'd catch up there more often
Stables dinner. Had a lovely dinner with mum at the stables tonight! The atmosphere was great and the food was outstanding. Definitly one of the best!
Sensational - a 'must try' bar in the CBD. Have enjoyed the odd drink or two at the Stables but dined there on a Saturday evening and feel compelled to give credit where it is due. Despite the busyness of a Saturday night, the service was outstanding with our hosts showing a thorough knowledge of the items of the menu as well as being able to recommend suitable wines to enhance the dining experience. We began with a range of items from the grazing menu which features a wide range which will suit the tastes of the most fussiest of eaters. For mains, the wife and I enjoyed the lamb shank which melted off the bone and the duck which was cooked to perfection. As we argued with the other members of our table as to who had the best dish, the Stables Wagon Wheel caught our attention for dessert. An outstanding way to complete a wonderful night out. Highly recommend! Great food and service! Great value!
Went on Thursday night. Great crowd, great service - the dinner was delicious and was impressed with the bill at the end of the night! Definitely go back - about time Perth had a CBD bar like this.
Great Last Dinner in Perth. My friends and I went here last night as one of them was leaving Perth and we wanted a nice place to eat. And what a great choice. The dinner was delicious, the service was fairly decent, and the place was really cool! I had the pork loin, which was to die for, so amazing. My friend had the gnocchi, which was equally as amazing. Overall would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
Great drinks. Had a great night here last Saturday, loved the little tequila bar outside - cheap fresh apple drinks and lovely bartender complete with sombrero. Will be back for sure!
Great new Find. Came across the Stables Bar whilst wandering around Perth. Never heard the name before, but turned out to be an excellent find. Great setting, top decor. Service was good, food was outstanding. Certainly be back again!
Went to the stables bar last night with a group of friends - great tequila cocktails at the outside bar
Went to the stables for lunch today with a few of my friends. We had delicious meals, the atmosphere was great and the waiters were lovely. Don't have a bad thing to say about it
Craving yesterday's lunch. Went for lunch yesterday and had the barramundi on a bed of risotto and squid....absolutely delicious and want to go back this weekend to have it again! Great venue and every single staff member friendly too, when you walk in a place like this you know Perth has finally grown up.
Dinner Date -11/3/14. WOW and OMG - I went with my husband for dinner at The Stables, the place was pumping outside (downstairs and upstairs). The restaurant inside was empty as I guess everyone wanted to make the most of the Tuesday Autumn balmy night in Perth. We thought we would sit inside all by ourselves so we didn't have to yell at each other (WINNING).
The waiter showed us to our table and it all started with a yummy sparking bottle of wine for two. We picked the Eggplant chips and Crumbed paprika pepper stuffed with paella. These were amazing - two very different tastes that exploded in our mouth.
The main was the Marinara special for the husband and the Confit duck for moi.
These dishes again were fantastic!!!
We were curling over as we were so full and in food heaven, the dessert menu came and of course there is always room for sweets. The husband went for the special of Cheesecake and I decide to try the Eton Mess. I was highly surprised that everything we had eaten did not disappoint. The dessert was as good as everything else we had. I couldn't believe that everything was AMAZING.
Our waiter (not sure if he is french but he had an accent) was as good as the food. Always topping up our glass, very friendly and chatty with us. The prices were so good as well so we had to leave a good tip.
THANK YOU THE STABLES I WILL BE BACK.
Nice place good service, food was bland. Nice place, good service, food tasted bland though. Restaurant needs to tailor itself to daytime clients. I.e. club sandwich, how about a thai curry? Wasnt impressed by menu. Limited and very simple, no flavour. Would return just not to eat.
Loved the food here!! We had paella stuffed bell peppers and fish tacos for entree followed by confit duck and gnocchi for mains and it was to die for!! So affordable too with the duck being $26 and cooked to perfection! Highly recommend and I will be going back!!
Club spot. Not my typical kind of place - full of young clubbers and loud music but I enjoyed it despite the distractions - of which there were many. Next time I will try it for lunch or a little earlier in the evening...Service was good and staff friendly. Didn't get to try the food (yet) and my only complaint would be that paying $12 for a bottle of Corona is freaking robbery....
Love your Lunch - yes indeedy!. Just saw the last two sorry reviews for The Stables Bar, not sure whether it’s because the day staff are different from the evening staff, as I have only lunched there ‘dahlings’, but my fourth experience here a couple of days ago was great with no problems with any of the service and I certainly aint pretentious.
So back to the crux of the matter...the food. We went to try their Love Your Lunch for $15 – and it was lovely – I really hope they continue with this initiative next year.
We found the grilled vegetable sourdough with fig balsamic & extra virgin oil very more-ish and (at least I find) can test your sharing capacity.
My companions chose the Organic beef burger with house cured bacon and hand cut chips – both of them enjoyed this substantial dish. And I tried one or two chips – very nice - not often you get such fresh chips like these.
I found it difficult to choose but I opted for the Grilled chicken which sat on a huge pile of quinoa, and included beautiful fresh mint, roast cauliflower, dukkah too I think (should have taken a pic of the menu and the food!) whatever was in the mix was beautiful, I was chasing the last of the quinoa around my plate. Another substantial dish – I ate everything because it was so tasty, not because I needed it all!
I like it when staff ask you how you enjoyed your food, as the young lady on this day did, as it’s an invitation to give them direct feedback, and it’s always great to be able to say you enjoyed it – which the three of us certainly did.
If my waist (and purse) could afford to be fed by these chefs every day it would be bliss!
Saturday night and the Stables are very busy. Booked for dinner before going to the Muse concert. The potato herb gnocchi with globe artichoke, roasted red onion with creamed ricotta was very good. The deconstructed wagon wheel did not disappointed. Good service standard. Can see why it is popular.
A nice lunch. Gnocchi small and a little overpriced but all in all tasty and nice. Good wine again overpriced but that is Perth. Staff tryimg hard . I think they were quite new. A lovely venue though.
Went on a mid week night and food and service were excellent and a great venue - only down side is getting a table on a weekend seems impossible! :(
Amazing. Came here before a show at his Majestys Theatre.
Luckily enough I booked for an early dinner because around 7 it became packed!
First off the service was delightful, they knew about their wines, my glass was never empty and the suggestions were spot on.
The food was absolutely delicious! My friend and I couldn't stop raving about it! We filled up on about 5 tapas plates!
The dessert was just the cherry on the top, I couldn't get enough of the special dessert they had on offer!
All in all I would definitely recommend coming here for a nice dinner =)
Loved it all! The Stables Board is one of the best starters ever! Also loved the beetroot gnocchi, stuffed eggplant and nougat with sour cherry sorbet. Not big servings, but delicious!!
Awesome Sunday Session, great vibe and good times.
Come here for the gnocchi. Amazing gnocchi, that is all.
Second time still a winner. Love it here - its a little gem in the centre of the city - food is delicious and quite reasonably priced (for Perth!) service is good and the atmosphere and decore nice too. It can get very noisy and perhaps some kind of insulation would assist as it can be difficult to have a conversation across the table but otherwise a lovely place.
Service 7/10 Food 8.5/10 A.... Service 7/10
Food 8.5/10
Ambience 7/10
Had to wait a while for food and ask where our 2nd round of drinks were.
Overall I would go back. Looking forward to going in summer and a new menu, as the winter menu is quite good.
Nice Spot. Great location for after work drinks and dinner for those who work in the CBD. We went here for lunch on a Saturday and it was awesome. The atmosphere is very Melbourne-esque, but relaxed. The space is quite large, with an upstairs and downstairs which is nice if you come to dine, but don't want to be swamped by party revelers.
The service is attentive and helpful, with wait staff happy to offer their suggestions and explain the menu. The kitchen is quick and the food is lovely. The food really has a freshness about it. Everything was delicious and my boyfriend declared the ragout as the "best he's ever had".
I appreciated that the kitchen and wait staff went out of their way to accommodate and make recommendations for specific dietary requirements too.
I will definitely be back when I am in the area.
Pretty Good!. Went there on a Tuesday and it was fairly busy upstairs in the restaurant. Ordered the gnocchi and it was cooked perfect, my guest and I also enjoyed a lovely bottle of Tempranillo. To share we ordered the Eggplant chips which was the only shortcoming. Definitely will be returning.
Great!. Had a great time at the Stables the other night. Lovely wines and my favourite beers on tap! The idea for dinner was taste almost everything with the group ordering 6 different starters followed by 6 different mains. All were delicious especially the soft shell crab & beef rib. Fast efficient service meant our food came out on time, together and hot, plus the glasses were never empty! Recommended!
Excellent food, staff & very cool. I will return again & again!
Outstanding food and floor staff. Thank you to The Stables for great food and service. We had a table of 8 and all found the food and service outstanding and VERY well priced.
A big thank you to the floor staff who made us feel welcome and important.
A delicious blend of flavours in every dish. Great range of food, incredible cocktails and extensive bar menu. Perfect for events - a hidden gem in Perth!
Great bar, awesome staff and tremendous food! Me and a few mates called in on a friday night and we were all blown away with how good it was. Best bar in Perth at the minute! Will definitely be going back, Boom!
I love it. Ignore all of the negative reviews, they have no idea what they're talking about. Staff are excellent, food is excellent and the drinks, also excellent.
Love this place. Food was amazing-especially the gnocchi! Vibe and service excellent! Definitely will return...excited to see Perth has stepped up!
Well designed addition to the CBD. The place has a great feel to it. Service can be a bit hit and miss, but overall quite enjoyable. Better for casual dining with some snacks from the all day grazing than a sit down meal.
Fabulous. Went here for lunch on Saturday with 9 people. Service was excellent, food was fabulous, everyone enjoyed their meals. Alcohol was well priced. Mulled wine was delicious! Definitely worth a visit :)
Love their gnocchi & their cauliflower salad, nice place for lunch in the city, gorgeously decorated !
OMG! Love it! Awesome food! Great service! Gotta come again!!!!
Great place to go for dinner or lunch. Friday drinks and saturdays are always lots of fun. Good service and delish food.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They delivered great service and an enjoyable menu. Food was clean and fresh with a lovely combination of flavours. Only issue was the coffee experience. Why? Shame not to finish the experience with a good quality coffee to match the lovely desserts.
Lovely afternoon. I went to The Stables Bar for a Friday work lunch and we had a fantastic afternoon. We had pre-ordered so when we arrived the service was prompt and friendly with everyone around the table very impressed with their meals. I shared the lemon polenta cake for dessert and it was amazing, I highly recommend it! A great addition to the city scene and I'll be going back soon.
WOW factor. I'm not really an urbanspoon sort of guy but I felt compelled to join and give my thoughts...
Having heard much around the CBD about The Stables Bar prior to it opening, I was very excited to see what all the fuss was about. My expectations were exceeded no end. Often in Perth there is a great deal of hype intially but you're inevitably disappointed by something moving forward. I can safely say the opposite is the case for The Stables. I have been half a dozen times since opening and I am yet to be let down.
The building itself is part bar, part lounge, part dining room, part balcony. Given the setup I was first skeptical of their ability to deliver. 'Jack of all trades, master of none' was my first fear, and I thought this would be just another bar. I was wrong. There really is nothing like The Stables anywhere else in Perth. You can sit down comfortably to have a meal (the food is first rate and great value for money) then slide across to the bar or balcony to enjoy some beverages and conversation, all the while maintaining an 'it' factor. There really is a great intangible feeling there and as Dennis Denuto might say, it's 'the vibe' of the place. The diversity of drinks on tap (and their wholly reasonable prices, unlike other city bars - I'm looking at you Trustee! lol) is a credit to management. The staff seem like they genuinely enjoy their job and to be of assistance is their pleasure.
Usually the hype and excitement dies down after a month or two, but The Stables shows no signs of slowing. Even the line moves quickly. The Stables, in my opinion, is an asset to Perth. It doesn't try and pigeon hole it's patrons or demand anything of them. The Stables has fast become my go to city bar and I cannot stop telling my friends to come join me there for a drink.
I really cannot compliment the venue enough. Kudos to the owners and management for adding something so brilliant to the Perth social landscape.
Every week, a new venue seems to pop up in Perth somewhere and it's the flavour of the month, however, people quickly become tired of it. The Stables Bar is an exception to this rule.
It's about time Perth had a venue minus all the things we dislike. Minus the ambiguous dress code, minus the ultra-loud music, minus the tight t-shirt wearing gym junkie and minus the over-priced beer.
The Stables Bar had a great atmosphere, friendly staff and a vibe that will keep me and my friends coming back. It is and will continue to be a vibrant, exciting addition to Perth's otherwise dull nightlife.
Thank you Stables Bar. It's about time.
Amazing addition to the City nightlife, perfect mix between restaurant and a funky place to have a drink on a Friday or Saturday night. Great food and great service with a great location to boot, lofts and balconies overlooking alleys and city streets give it a great picturesque melbourne bar feel. Best place in Perth for 21-35 year olds. Will be back there this weekend and many more to come!
Great place, great atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks and food. Tasted some of the all day grazing menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend.
Best bar in Perth. Great location, atmosphere and food. Reasonably priced and an amazing venue. Been many times and it cannot be beat.
Loved it!. We had a work lunch at The Stables on a Friday afternoon. We pre ordered which was incredibly easy and the food was amazing. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The service for us was great; when we arrived the staff pointed us in the right direction and were ready with drinks menus as soon as we sat down. It does get quite noisy upstairs but it creates a fun atmosphere! Overall I think it is a great new bar that Perth desperately needed!!
Great Food, Great Service, Well Priced!. I went to Stables with 5 friends for dinner on Saturday night and the service and food was outstanding. Such a well-priced menu for food and drinks which is great to see in Perth. We didn't have a booking and the place was packed however the wait staff still managed to sort out a table for us. I was very impressed with the service. The food was delicious, especially the eggplant chips! I highly recommend this place, great atmosphere, delicious food and fantastic service.
The new standard. First of all let’s talk about the other options in the area. 1. "Lost society"- as the name suggests... lost. 2. "Generous Squire" as the name suggests....more like the "general". 3. Dirty Nelly's...dirty. You get the theme. The stables is an example of how someone has not just done a generic, sterile fit out that is Perth’s norm. It’s thought out, designed, stylish, with attention to detail and with historical value being the old Perth Mounted Police stables. Credit where credit is due. They have created a unique venue that does not offer the same generic food or atmosphere that Perth dishes up. I can only infer that they are new to the Perth landscape. What I get with the place is that they are a bar which offers good food. They are not a bar that is trying to be a restaurant. Had a great time, good food, staff service was attentive but not over bearing. See it for what it is...streets ahead of what’s been opened in Perth recently. Do yourself a favour and check it out.
Wow-wee. Looooved the food, particularly the gnocci and was very impressed by the service. Looking forward to going back asap!
Love from a Veghead. Rolled up on a Saturday night to have some drinks with friends. There was a long cue out the door, but it didn't take very long to get to the front. The music was pretty funky. The DJ had a trumpet hooked up that he played in between spins, which was interesting. Drinks were cheap, but the food was the best part by far! Def not what I expected from a bar menu. I'm a veghead and there was a lot for me to choose from. Def recommend.
Nice and fresh food. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff. Nice random find for us Sydneysiders
My partner and I came to The Stables for dinner before the circus last week, and loved it. The food was delicious, although portions are on the small side. Wine list is fabulous, and the service is efficient. Love what they've done with the place!
Great for Mid Week Lunch. Went for a work lunch on a Tuesday and the service was quick and very friendly, food was AMAZING (definitely recommend the eggplant chips and ricotta gnocci). Everyone in the group was really impressed with the food but the menu is quite limited. I would definitely go back for a lunch.
More than happy. A friend and I went here for something to eat and a few drinks. We decided to share a bottle of wine, of which the list was extensive enough, and the prices were very reasonable. I noted you can purchase a bottle of Moet for $80 and Verve $90, not bad prices for dining out. We selected the zucchini, pea and mint crocquettes, which were nice, not great but nice flavours. Expensive for what they were really at $12. The big winner for us were the mains though. The braised lamb with fattoush salad and the slow cooked chicken with chorizo were so full of flavour, the meat falling apart and so tender. We were both very happy to say the least. I didn't want to stop eating the lamb at all. Although the mains were not a huge serve at $26 (chicken) and $29 (lamb), I considered it very good value for money. I look forward to returning, and enjoying more of the menu next time.
I like it.... Here for a work function, very impressed by food and drink options - although I burnt my tongue on the super hot canapés!
Warm, Good Food and a Nice Layout. A lovely new bar with an open plan atmosphere which was warm and inviting. My partner and I had the cuttle fish salad and egg plant chips. The cuttle fish salad was delicious. the egg plant chips were a little over battered but were above average and priced well.
All in all a good dining and drinking experience with a wide range of ales and wines to choose from. The only thing which let it down was the bar flys. They had the footy on at the bar and all the bar stools were taken by people watching the game. Therefore there was no room for people to get a drink at the bar for the entire night. This needs to be addressed because there were alot of unhappy customers.
It's nice to have another little hidey hole open in Perth. It's like stepping into another world. Classy decor, killer cocktail list an all within the more reasonable end of Perth prices. The pan fried ricotta gnocchi is crispy, melt in your mouth amazing. The slow cook chicken is smokey deliciousness. Order them with a side of the eggplant chips (which are more like croquettes and the croquettes are more like fritters, but hey they're just names). I imagine this place will be heaving on a Friday night, so try the menu mid week.
Great new bar!. Love this place! Went in last weekend for dinner and we all enjoyed it.
Great service, cool staff and good quality coffee (i think they use some organic fairtrade stuff, i'll have to ask next time i go)!
We will definitely be back :)
Came for dinner girls night out, Amazing food awesome selection of cocktails, the staff were awesome 9/10. surprised the Stables has only been open for 1 week considering the professional level held, Defiantly has become our local
This bar has a good atmosphere and the food was good, but the staff need to be a bit more attentive to the customers needs!
Went to the VIP opening - because that's how I roll - and this place rocks. What an amazing makeover from what it used to be. And definitely no 'small bar' - this is huge. Well done on setting the benchmark for new establishments in Perth's CBD. Now I've just got to find time to go back for a meal!
Excellent experience. The staff were very friendly, helpful and relaxed. The menu was interesting, and the waiter & somelier were knowledgeable. Child friendly, too. Especially when it wasn't too busy; it gets really loud when it's full. A really cool venue right in the heart of Perth. We'll be back!
Food was ok. Nothing to write home about. Beverage selection ok as well but overall I like it, could have spent more money on the feel its a bit bland and the music is horrendous
Fantastic! I went here for lunch with some work colleagues and we are set to go back again next week.
The food was incredible, the dishes aren't over complicated with an abundance of ingredients like some perth eateries, meaning that each flavour shines through and each dish was a winner.
The decor and atmosphere was also great, and whilst there were some small service hiccups that would be expected on any second day opening the wait staff were friendly and extremely knowledgeable on produce and ingredients.
The Stables Bar is a great addition to Perths rapidly growing restaurant and bar scene

The Stables is situated at the end of a laneway off Hay Street, just up the road from Shafto Lane. The building was, in fact, one of the City’s original horse stables, magnificently restored and adapted. An open cobble stoned area outside the bar is set up with tables and chairs; inside high benches with stools; and up the stairs the main dining area, with a delightful balcony outdoor dining room adjacent. On our last visit, for lunch, the day was warm and sunny so we chose to sit upstairs on the balcony at a bench. The menu is largely composed of a variety of smaller dishes, designed to share; but with larger meals also available. A specials list was also provided. The share dishes included chicken and chorizo croquettes, lemon battered whitebait with paprika mayonnaise and seared tuna loin with wasabi. Among the larger dishes were a slow roasted pork hock, tiger prawn and mussel paella, pan fried ricotta gnocchi and a scotch fillet. For really big eaters or groups there was a 700g Blackwood Valley organic beef rib eye and a 3kg (!!) braised lamb shoulder on the bone, for $70 and $100 respectively. With just the two of us, we chose from share menu the pulled pork sliders; smoked salmon and green apple bruschetta; marinated Fremantle octopus served with chickpeas, roasted garlic and rosemary; and cauliflower and zucchini pakoras served with mint labne. We also ordered a dish of spiced almonds while we waited for our other dishes, together with a bottle of Bunker Bay rosé from Margaret River. The wine list is comprehensive, weighted toward Australian wines, but with a good selection from Italian, French, Spanish and New Zealand wineries. Many are by the glass; as well there is a selection of aged reserve wines for a special occasion. The list also contains a large list of spirits and cocktails. The food came quickly; the pulled pork sliders were a real hit – unctuous, tender pork in a soft seeded bun,
We sat casually in the shady courtyard and ordered a few cocktails. We had some Cider Bellinis and Mai Tais. The Mai Tai was new for me – I loved it!
There was a fairly decent selection of drinks on offer, but I just couldn't go past an ice cold pint of Little Creatures (well it was a schooner but all the same it was amazing). In addition to the great range of beers and wines, the food menu was just as interesting. There wasn't a huge number of items on the menu but they all sounded really good - definitely not your average pub food. Matt went with the Organic Beef steak with oxtail and Yorkshire puddings and I couldn't go past the Twice cooked pork belly.
I adore passionfruit and this is all about showcasing a diverse way of using this tropical ingredient. The mousse is definitely the star for this dessert but the gelee is a close second. This is a dish of texture and bags of flavour.
foodie cravings Top 5 Perth Eats in July and August... at #2 is The Stables Bar’s pan-fried gnocchi I was craving the pan-fried gnocchi at The Stables Bar but the main ingredient of the dish was mushroom which I don’t eat. I asked if I could substitute the mushroom for something else expecting a flat NO but was super impressed that The Stable Bar was more than happy to oblige...
The Stables Bar is a popular restaurant and bar built in the refurbished landmark residence and stables of 19th Century businessman Jonathon Butterworth. The bar, tucked away in a cobblestone courtyard of the tiny Hay Street lane way in Perth’s Central Business District, is the perfect location if you want to drink outdoors on a warm night. When I went for an early dinner, the two-story bar was packed with after-work happy hour drinkers enjoying a beer or cocktail in the outdoor courtyard with strings of light bulbs or the second-floor deck with a view of the city skyline. The dining room where I was seated had the masculine charm of a Colonial library, and like I read in many of the local reviews, the service was friendly and welcoming, making me feel like I was just going to my buddies’ home to drink and eat. Reasonable Menu The menu has a nice mix of bar fo
The restaurant is very nice and the service staff is amazing. One of the best I have experienced so far in Perth. So keen to details, polite and friendly. The food is outstanding from start to finish. I have nothing but praise about this place. I was there for a staff Christmas lunch and everything was great :) well done and keep up the great work!
We attended the Bottomless Botanicals yesterday. The service was impeccable and our servers were consistently on the ball topping up our champagne, taking our cocktail orders and making sure everything was okay. The food was delicious, our drinks were perfect and the decor and atmosphere was also beautiful and welcoming. Highly recommended.
My hubby and I dined at The Stables for his birthday. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. Always a pleasure dining here.
Cozy even on a cold day. Picked the first four items off the entree menu and it was heaps of food for two. Chicken bites were the favourite
Absolutely loved dinner here! What a hidden gem!
Outstanding service, amazing space - I let Luca choose our entire menu and wine for the night and his service was second to none!
Anyone looking for a bespoke evening or a fun drink should hit this place up!
Great live music fantastic ambience!
A must visit when I'm in Perth. Great food.
Lucky for me I'm here to enjoy Taco Tuesday. $8 tacos. Sampled the barramundi and chicken kraage to start with. Barramundi worth a repeat followed by the slow cooked lamb taco but this was $10...no complaints though, worth it for the deliciousness.
I'm sure the pork taco was equally delicious....unfortunately no more room in my stomach!
