Zafferano is situated on the Swan River by the Old Swan Brewery. The views of the city are amazing, and it seems to be a restaurant that you visit for a special occasion. I was really looking forward to trying some good seafood here. The first thing I noticed was the car parking – it’s expensive! Not only do you have to pay premium prices for food, you have to pay to park there, which seemed to me a bit rough.

Food was average. Nothing great. The staff was rude. We had a table for 6 for Father's Day lunch and we were literally pushed out of the restaurant in 50 mins. The restaurant was not even that busy. We had a few fries left on a plate which we were eating but slowly. 3 staff in about 5 mins came around asking if they can clear the plate. During our meal, we were asked to move our table a meter or so to create more space for the table next to us. The food was very pricey understandably due to the location and views on offer. Food was ordinary and really poor service. I would never go there again.

Disappointed <br/>Meals were ok but they were expensive. Too much interfering by serving staff while eating. We didn’t order a set menu because they said we could not to use an entertainment card. I chose this restaurant to use my entertainment card before the expiry date. <br/>When I was in a bathroom, my mother paid but forgot to show my entertainment card. I asked them whether they would reverse the transaction but they said ‘No’. Our bill was about $300 for lunch inc a bottle of wine. I knew it was our fault but they didn’t understand what a hospitality should be.<br/>I never go back again.

Lovely view. Staff were lovely. Coeliac friendly. In the entertainment book. Good selection of food. The gnocchi was very oily and the grilled fish had some kind of coating on it. Around $50 for a piece of fish not including side etc.

Zafferano was really good! I had the mushroom risotto and it is definitely one of the better ones I've had in Perth! We came here for my brother's 21st birthday dinner and the staff had arranged to have "happy 21st birthday" on his dessert. They were very professional and the restaurant was well polished. I found the price to portion size slightly high but the quality of food was undeniable. The birthday dessert was the Wildflower Honey Bavarios. The other dessert we tried was the Cookies and cream terrine - a must for chocolate lovers.
The Ponder Room
A few years ago our family booked this restaurant for a significant birthday. It was a brilliant night where the staff went above and beyond on every level. At the time I promised I’d write a review. Life continued on and I never got around to it. So I was very pleased when I was offered a return visit this month and even happier to be on the end of another top experience. Consistency your name is Zafferano.

Nice ambience overlooking Swan river, especially to watch the sunset. Went here for dinner, lovely service & reasonable price. Had the truffle risotto & seafood pasta, they’re okay but not great. Overall pretty good spot for a romantic dinner.

An absolutely awesome place to eat. Another dinner at the best feed in town. Gnocchi with king prawns again was unbelievable. Service was 10 out of 10 so definitely back there in three weeks

Had a great valentines day meal here service was impeccible and the food was delicious and the view was as beautiful as ever looking across the swan

Really lovely experience dining here night, both in regards to food and environment. Dining on the Swan River here is phenomenal and the whole experience is worthwhile. The food portions look as though they could be more generous, but do not be fooled, the dishes are very filling indeed! We ordered a set menu and plan to return for lunch on a Sunday soon.

Nice ambience, beautiful river view, great food! If you're vegan/vegetarian there's a menu specially catered for you with so many options! I went for the vegetarian meal options with my friend and we both chose different ones so that we could try different dishes! The truffle potato was crispy and well baked yet creamy on the inside, the pasta dishes were flavourful without being too cheesy or oily and I loved both the pannacotta and creme brûlée. This place is definitely worth a try for a special occasion.

A great restaurant with one of the best ambience. The staffs were amazing, probably one of the better service we've received in Perth. The food is good as well, be prepared to fork out a bit more but it's decent considering the location. They have a good selection of wine. I'd recommend trying zafferano if you haven't and would like a good night out.

We (4 adults) had the most enjoyable meal at this amazing restaurant.<br/>Booking was easy and the staff friendly and helpful.<br/>Parking (on a Tuesday night at 5:45pm) was very easy and free - just drive in next to the main entrance from Mts Bay Rd heading from the city.<br/>The setting was stunning as the sun set over Matilda Bay with the odd determined sailor still pottering around. Then The Narrows bridge lit up with cars and trains flickering past.<br/>The tables are beautifully set and nicely spaced, with wine coolers in close reach and a quiet, warm ambience.<br/>The staff were polite, attentive-without-harassing and knowledgeable, quietly serving and clearing our meals.<br/>The chowder was to die for, the Flatheads with crumbed asparagus (special) and the peach salad (special) also amazing. Decent portions nicely set with warmed plates.<br/>We enjoyed a gold label Wolf Blass shiraz from an extensive menu, which the staff appeared to have a good knowledge of too.<br/>And we were too full to try desert :( Next time...thank you all!<br/>Definitely recommended for that special occasion.

Went to Zafferano with my wife for our anniversary.<br/>The food was tasty and the service attentive.<br/>However my wife got really sick straight after arriving home. She had the oysters...and she does not consume alcohol, so it could not be because of what she drank. A mixed end of the evening for us as a result - not what we had planned.<br/>She was absolutely fine the next day.<br/>

What an enjoyable dining experience, whilst being seated in the best possible location overlooking Perth city, I was lucky enough to be a guest at an event whereby I was able to try a little taste of a little heaven.<br/><br/>Cocktails are sophisticated and tasty <br/>The wine complimented my delicious barramundi, the after dinner mint tart was the most tantalising dessert That's ever touched my lips.<br/><br/>Thankyou for an incredible dining experience & to the team looking after us that night you were all top class waiters & waitresses who delivered to our demands <br/><br/>Grazie xx
Chelsea
My husband and I made a reservation for our wedding anniversary. We were seated along side the river and pathway. The service from the waiter and waitresses was perfect. Always refilling water, and asking if you'd like more drinks. I had the chowder for entree and honestly it wasn't that great. I've had better. The seafood was good, but the sauce was average. Calamari for husbands entree, delicious and fresh. Main- I had a special, seafood spaghetti, delicious again, full of plenty of seafood! Husband had the duck. Which he said was good. We shared a dessert, caramel decadence... this was a perfect finish. They kindly had the kitchen staff write 'happy anniversary' on the plate with a sparkler. I wouldn't return here however.

We had previously dined at Zafferanos about 5 years ago and had very good impressions of the food then. So we decided to dine there for a pre-Valentine's Day dinner and submitted an online booking request on the restaurant's website. By the date of the dinner, still no confirmation email or call had been received but we decided to just go ahead anyway. <br/><br/>We ordered from the Sunday Seafood Menu instead of the ala carte menu. The entrees and desserts were average but passable. For mains, my husband had the whiting (which he said was good) and I had the chili mussels. Loaded with strips of carrots and with hardly any sauce, the main issue I had with it was that a lot of the mussels still had their beards left on!! When I got the first couple of beards, I was just going to let it pass and not mention it. Then I started getting more and more mussels with beards until I ended up leaving the rest of the dish uneaten. <br/><br/>We mentioned it to 3 different (stony-faced) wait staff and all they said was "I'm sorry" and "I will tell the chef". For a restaurant of this price range, the actual quality of the food was a real let down. Serving your customers mussels that have not been properly cleaned is a big mistake. Isn't making sure to remove the beards from the mussels one of the basic preparation steps? It was not just one or two mussels that were the issue but nearly half of the bowl! <br/><br/>Compared to our previous visits, this was definitely a huge disappointment. The only dish that we thoroughly enjoyed was the French baguette and butter, which we ordered off the ala carte menu. If I had ordered the chili mussels off the ala carte menu and paid the full price for them, I wonder if they would have been cleaned properly then?

This restaurant is incredible! The menu is exquisite and the meals are executed with great talent. Everything is cooked to perfection. Staff are friendly and willing to help. Atmosphere was wonderful. Highly recommend as I could not fault!

Came here with group of 5 of us. Great view, staff attentive and food was great. Sirloin Steak cooked perfectly and great flavour, oysters kilpatrick amazing. Sides all good, although mash could have been a little more creamy, but hint of truffle flavour was great. Not cheap but $100 off with entertainment book, so $90 a head with entree, mains and 2 desserts shared between 5.

A delightful find for lunch today. Delicious fare and superb wine thanks to the Maitre de. Many thanks to the highly trained, professional, and friendly waitress.

Went for dinner on a nice spring night, seated inside, thus the view over the swan river was fantastic. On this night it was perhaps quieter than we expected however this worked well as the noise level was low and made for great ambience. Staff were very attentative which was lovely, and the food was spectacular. Will definitely return in the summer for another lovely evening meal.

If you are considering this restaurant, we would highly recommend it.  We have just completed our 38th return visit, that in itself should tell you something, but if you need it pointed out, Ross' culinary skills are up there with the best of them, along with one of the world's premier locations  (and yes we have traveled widely), Western Australian produce is some of the finest in the world, add all of those to great service from the staff, we will keep going back.
Daniel Wyatt
Wonderful location and ambience. The staff were very attentive and looked after us extremely well. The food was excellent with the seafood being the standout for us. All meals were cooked to perfection and presented very well. The sides were also fantastic. Overall it was a great night out and we'll definitely be returning.
Kermit
Great venue, with amazing views of the river. <br/>Menu was abit expensive.. I guess that just Perth.<br/>Food was well presented, full of flavor. The steak was beautifully cooked. Found the red emperor abit boring.<br/>The desserts very nice.<br/>Very impressed with the wine.<br/>Staff were very attentive<br/>Overall great venue, great staff, great night.
Michael Thompson
Another great venue on our Swan River. Chicken caseser salad was delicious along wit the steak which was cooked medium rare as requested. Can be touch and go pending the night due to being highly popular for big groups and functions, the noise wasn't over the top but could be off putting for a romantic occasion

Started with some cocktails. They dirty martinis were great. I had the tasting menu with seafood and beef. Fantastic.! Service was brilliant. Would go back again.

We recently went to Zafferano Restaurant for lunch. Such a beautiful view. The food was fresh and delicious but a touch over priced for lunch we thought. Delicious seafood. Service was good. Would go again. Leave the kids at home.

This place located in the old brewery on mounts bay road has amazing views of the swan river. Food is great. However when we ordered dessert we got the wrong order. We eventually got the dish we ordered. This place super expensive. I think it is way overpriced for the food. On a plus note. They do espresso martinis!
Rmtl13
One of those venues you could easily be paying for the view and substandard food. However Zafferano exceeded my expectations and then some. <br/>Best espresso martini ive had in perth. <br/>Mains were veal and seafood pasta special. <br/>The Veal for main was cooked perfectly and the polenta had perfect crunch. Pasta special was loaded with seafood and cooked to perfection in a light sauce. Both were outstanding. <br/><br/>They had a new dessert menu which was really hard to choose from. Tiramisu and the sour cherry chocolate tart were both delectable. <br/><br/>10/10 for food and for service. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Wonderful evening which we couldn't fault. Will certainly be back!
James Symonds
The views are fantastic and the food, being a lover of seafood, is quite good but not the best. The staff, or at least the waitress who served me, was very polite, friendly and knowledgeable. I intend to return

We went for our daughter's 18th birthday a few days ago. When things go wrong people are quick to jump on social media and criticise, however less inclined to praise. <br/>We wanted to give this restaurant the recognition they deserve - the service was fantastic from start to finish, nice relaxed and friendly whilst still very professional. The food was gorgeous, breads, calamari, duck, crab, crepe suzettes - all were beautifully presented and tasted gorgeous. If you are looking for a beautiful location, great service and memorable food then Zafferano's is the place

went to this restaurant for a 60 th Birthday , was very dissapointed ,  on booking we told the manager there would  be 7 young children joining us 2 of which were tiny babies , we had asked for 3 high chairs , to which they didnt accomodate , then to be told the children were stomping on their  garden  . which was laughable as the children were standing next to their parents .. one parent got angry and took two of the children home and meant she couldnt join the birthday party and it gets better with them telling us we could not have the 2 prams near the table as they couldnt serve  which was crap as the prams were at the end of the tables no where near where they would need to pass...  the meals arrived , my seafood was under cooked and everyone complained there food was very average .. .  I am very dissappointed  it spoilt a night that was supposed to be a special night , for our sister .  wont be going back  neither will our families

Had a beautiful dinner, the service was fantastic and the food was amazing. Would definitely go again!<br/>When they say share the dessert, do it, don't make the mistake and order it for yourself. Chocolate almond royale - delicious but soo very rich.

Similar thoughts to Hannah below.  Our first comment when we walked through the door was 'what is with the flooring?!' ... it is just odd!  The lighting could definitely be improved, and we too had at least 4 different people serving us which felt unorganised - but it seems that's how they do it here! <br/><br/>Meals were very pricey, however most of the portion sizes were quite good. All of the dishes were praised except for my meal (crispy skin barramundi).  It came out on bed of red onion and looked so underwhelming, like something had been missed.  It unfortunately tasted just as bland as it looked!  The fish was on the dry side and didn't have any oil or buerre blanc (or anything whatsoever!!!!)  I spoke to one of the waitresses who promptly took it away and returned with it re-plated and a buerre blanc drizzled over the top.  My thoughts - waitress was very good about the ordeal and didn't make the situation awkward at all, but why didn't they do this in the first place!  It not only tasted much better, but looked great on the plate!<br/><br/>Our bill came to just over $450 for 5 diners, with bread to share as a starter, a main meal each, 2 tiny side dishes, 1 dessert and 2 bottles of the least expensive wine.<br/><br/>Overall, staff here were lovely and genuine, but I left feeling underwhelmed and like we had paid way too much for what we received.  Next time we will try the Old Swan Brewery next door... for a start the decor in that place looked beautiful!
Lt
Really disappointing dinner<br/>Extremely overpriced for the quality of food<br/>Ordered ciabatta and blue swimmer crab pasta - both of which were very bland<br/>Service was fine<br/>Views are average at night, would be better during the day or during sunset<br/>Would recommend spending your money elsewhere
Call Em As I See Em
Amazing food, fantastic service and a gorgeous atmosphere, can't fault this place at all. I wish we could have tried everything because there wasn't one dish we did not thoroughly enjoy. You definitely get what you pay for, would absolutely go here again in a heartbeat. Amazing.
Heros
Really good service from all staff!!! For starters I had oysters with cheese / scallops with corn and peas (yummy!) Main lunch was chilli mussels with beetroot / walnuts and cheese salad. Finished off with their pudding! So good?

We came here on Saturday night for a friends birthday. The décor and ambience is unusual for a 'fine dining' restaurant, and the lights inside were too bright to see the view outside. It felt as though about 7 different people were serving us and constantly interrupting (although they were very friendly). The food was just ok, but I didn't pay for it. For a touristy 'fancy' restaurant it is fine, but I wouldn't return.

We came here on a busy Saturday night. We were attended to as soon as we walked through the doors. The atmosphere and setting were great. We ordered entree, mains and dessert and were thoroughly impressed with everything we got. Everything was delicious. The waitress, Zena, was incredibly helpful, informative and friendly. She made great recommendations and appeared highly passionate about the food and restaurant. She told us all about the dishes and the ingredients as well as describing the taste and complementary dishes so accuratly. Overall our experience was unfaultable. Would definitely go back.

I can't believe I have never reviewed this place. I love this place and come here at least once or twice a year. The food is always "excellent" the service is always "excellent" and the view is just "exquisite". Yes the place is a bit expensive, but look at it like this... "I get in a suit to go to dinner and everything will be just perfect... The food, the service, the view." You simply won't find better in Perth. If I could rate this place a 6 out of 5, I would.... If you have a special occasion to take that special someone, this is the place I recommend every time... Every time!
Eroshaforevereating
One of my all time favourite places! Great for date night and special occasions. The food, service and atmosphere here is really nice. In summer it gets even better when they open the big doors and the view across the river is amazing. Been here on multiple occasions and I can't complain.
TheBearReview
Beautiful venue with a lovely view over the water. Excellent service and good food. I don't think it is overpriced because you are paying for the view and the service. But it is definitely a place you go to for that purpose. If you want amazing food, go somewhere else.
Lifturgame
Food incredibly overrated & overpriced. You are once again paying for the location & views. Although service was great and the wine lovely. Over priced Perth again lived up to its reputation in regards to style over substance....$50 for a bowl of risotto is just outrageous in any language, anywhere.... Never again!
Kelvin Ching
This is an average fine dining that seeks to compete with the next door old brewery co. Haven't tasted OBC but I find the food at ZAF rather pricey and also the wait for the food was long.

Worst decision ever to come here for a friends birthday. What an absolute disappointment. My friends bought 2 seafood platters for $60+ each and we're served small stale tasting fish, a lobster the size of a prawn, with frivolous plain calamari. We also ordered the chowder which tasted like licorice and had like 1 prawn in it, and depressingly tiny risotto. They also took my friends cake and planned to charge us 5 bucks per slice of our own cake?!? For the ridiculously high prices serving sizes were tiny with the quality of food shocking. The restaurant is outdated/ old looking with the wait staff being desperate and annoying. I couldn't even have a conversation without waiters chiming in constantly and filling my water (which they charged me $18 without my knowledge might I add!). Total price for the night: $350. No wonder this place is dead with no customers. I don't care if I can see the city outside the window, you're poor tasting food and exuberant prices ruined my friends birthday!
Flat Coat Foodie
Too much Service?!. We arrived to an almost empty restaurant with no mention of our names or booking (impersonal) we are a couple celebrating a birthday and did have a nice inside corner table with a view. It was cold and outdoor seating was not an option. The ambience in the restaurant is not the best with huge limestone pillars that make it look like a tacky Chinese restaurant.<br/>They could not wait to 'get us started' and so we had a nice glass of sparkling wine. No champagne and as only sold by the bottle starting at $195. We really did want to relax and take our time but we were again asked and asked if we wanted to 'get started' so the baguette with butter and salt was ordered. The butter was rock hard and very disappointing in the portion at $8.50 (ok fair enough) but for 2 x slices of french bread that was very doughy was rude. The calamari for main was ok, bit average and the duck with cherries was far too sweet. The specials are not price revealed and we had to ask, they are not specials and are way above menu price. In fact we werent told the specials and overheard them at another table, so we had to ask.<br/>Service OTT with the waitress's hovering close by and walking past the 3 tables regularly, felt like at a school camp. They topped up a sipped water glass twice within 4 minutes. This place may be great for a business lunch if the service is that OTT but for a romantic relaxed evening meal for busy adults definel not. Go to Frasers instead, the ambience kicks this places butt, in fact so do many places in Perth. 6/10

Best gnocchi since the Belaggio. The gnocchi at the place is UNBELIEVABLE!!! So good. They do veggie food right. Nice classy vegetarian dishes. The veggie food isn't just an after thought, they care about making it as good as the meat dishes. The chef makes some awesome hot sauces too. <br/>Always love coming here. Awesome wine list. Just a tip, get your order in before Gina. There's always a wait after she gets hers in.

Absolutely amazing dinner there a few weeks ago on a Tuesday night. Seafood chowder was superb, beef carpaccio stunning and tasty and the rest was fantastic. Service was best we had in ages. Thanks, we will so be back again!

Sorry, but this is 'ciao'!. We've been going to Zafferano once a year for the past 5 years and usually find it such a treat. After last night, I doubt we'll go back. We took my teenage son as it was my birthday. He ordered gnocchi and just laughed when it arrived. The serving was so tiny, he was still hungry afterwards. The waiter and waitress were very charming, but that doesn't make them good servers. The waiter could have warned my son the serving was so small and suggest he might like the sirloin steak instead, but no. Then I ordered the crepe flambe because, again it was my birthday, and it's special to watch them cook it at the table. Again the waiter didn't mention that they can't do it outside where we were sitting and instead suggested we go inside and watch it being cooked. It just wasn't the same. The food itself was very tasty, although my fish was overcooked, which for the money is unforgivable. The money? About $45 - $48 for a main. For that I want perfection.<br/>Sorry Zafferano, but this is 'ciao'!

Excellent food, friendly but poor service. Our group of 4 went to Zaffetano on Saturday night. The food was lovely! Our oysters were fresh, pasta special perfectly cooked an the risotto was just as I hoped. The desserts hit the spot but perhaps were overpriced for what they were. Our guests were also very happy with their meals.<br/><br/>The service was appalling! Whilst most of the staff were indeed friendly, the place could use a good manager and some training if they want to charge the prices they do. In a half-full restaurant we were seated next to a large and rather loud table. 3 separate staff asked us if we wanted drinks and to hear the specials (ie: no communication), and little things like clearing away unused wine glasses were overlooked. Drinks were put down in front of the wrong person twice. Our sides simply did not appear! We were given knives for pasta and risotto. After desserts, we were offered drinks several times an declined, but had to get up to get the bill as this was not offered. The worst part though was when the girl started bang clanging away polishing the cutlery right near us whilst we were eating our mains! This has happened to us previously here.<br/><br/>In summary, lovely food and delightful location, let down by untrained staff.

Zafferano Restaurant. I booked in to Zafferano for a special dinner occasion ( My Wifes birthday) expecting to enjoy a fabulous meal and memorable evening.<br/>I was expecting to pay a premium price for the food and wine but when shown the wine list I was astounded at the sheer gouging on prices, $18 for a glass of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc a wine which an entire bottle is around $15 at Dan Murphy's $9 would be an average price around town which I am more than happy to pay. However as it was for a special occasion,I ordered a glass for my wife and I had a beer ($9).<br/>The service was good but the waiter needs to learn to not lean across the table to serve or retrieve plates and beverages etc at a premium price I expect a waiter with the knowledge of the basics of table waiting.<br/>Now down to the food,<br/>My wife had an entree of Salt rolled Calamari it was overcooked ( rubbery and the blending of the flavours was ordinary at best. (if Salt and Pepper calamari is one of your favourite dishes try Bay 33's at Watermans Bay it is probably one of the best in Perth) and she had a main of Barramundi which was undercooked when we spoke to the waiter about it he basically dismissed us as not knowing what we were talking about. <br/>I have caught and cooked my own fish all my life and know when fish is or isn't cooked.<br/>My entree consisted of oysters Kilpatrick which were good and my main was a Seafood Plate for one pretty exorbitant at $59 and consited of Scallops which were very nice the prawns were good a piece of battered Snapper which at the price was only alright, half a Scampi which was ordinary and the very ordinary Calamari.<br/>To finish with we had Sticky Fig and Banana pudding with vanilla bean ice cream which we both agreed was the best course of the night.<br/>Now for the bill for 2 mains, 2 entree's,1 dessert, I serve of Garlic and Parmesan Bread ( ordered ) we actually got fetta and tomato Ciabatta but accepted this, 1 side serve of steamed broccolini, 2 beers, 1 wine (glass) 1 dessert and a coffee we had to fork out $248 now I don't mind paying for quality food and service i.e; (The Loose Box around $300 for a degustation meal + drinks around $400, Frasers around $230 including drinks and their staff know how to wait tables with the correct etiquette but Zafferano wasn't even close not within a bulls roar of either of these establishments but still charge a premium rate.<br/>I for one will not be returning to their establishment I rate it at 2.5 Stars.

Beautiful. Went here for a birthday dinner for 2 with a voucher I'd won from a radio station, so didn't really know what to expect. The service was friendly, professional and attentive, the view was beautiful, the food was delicious as was the wine, which the waitress helped us pick out. While it's certainly not cheap, for a special occasion I would definitely go back.

First Anniversary Bliss. Just spent a wonderful evening dining at Zafferanos for our first wedding anniversary. We dined here for my husbands birthday last year and were so impressed that we bought gift vouchers for all of our family. Tonight once again did not disappoint. Excellent service and meals to die for. Every dish we ate tonight was fantastic. Well worth the money for a visit. (Thanks for the lovely service Xena)

Worst meal ever. Just had dinner with a group of friends at Zafferanos, the place was overcrowded and very, very noisy and chaotic. It took about 4 wait staff and more than half an hour to get 2 beers & a coke. I ordered duckling for a main - $50 for a piece of dry tough meat, mostly bone with a few cherries, I passed on dessert- at $23.50 nothing was appealing. I will never go back. One of the most expensive and disappointing meals I have ever had.

Perfect for a special occasion. My partner and I celebrated our anniversary at Zafferano last year and returned again this year because it was so good. The atmosphere is great, the view is beautiful and we received wonderful service on both occasions. It's a bit pricey but I feel it's worth it for a special night out. I ordered the fillet of beef this and it's the best steak I have eaten. Every meal we have ordered has been delicious and perfectly cooked and the wine list is extensive. It is our favourite spot!

Pleasantly surprised. After having a few wedding anniversary lunches and dinners destroyed by certain up-market restaurants who's ability was far less than their own perceptions of what should be delivered, I continued to search for a great venue for lunch. Having heard varying stories about Zafferano's I decided to try it for myself with my wife and we were very pleasantly surprised. It was a Wednesday afternoon, the weather perfect and the place was deserted except for a table of 3.It was a shame it was deserted as atmosphere lacked, but that was all... We were greeted very pleasantly and looked after very well. The lady serving us was friendly, informative but not in your face familiar. The wines and champagne were very reasonably priced and a good selection too. I have to admit I had the best rib-eye steak I have had for a long time and I generally don't chose steak as usually the chef knows best how to cook it but not how I want it. This was a winner all the way. My wife's pink snapper was delicious. Overall a very good lunch that lasted more than a few good hours with lovely wines overlooking the Swan river.. thank you Zafferano for not destroying a precious event in our lives. We will be back.

Delicious food. Amazing service. Beautiful views. So glad we finally tried this iconic perth restaurant

Family Dinner for 12. Had a fantastic night on Friday night at Zafferano's.<br/>This is top class food, service and location.<br/>I am recommending it and one of my family has already booked again.

Fussy Diner. Great food and atmosphere :-)

Disappointing. One of the worst meals I have ever had.. Not sure if they were having an off night or not but was disappointed with the food and the service.
Liz Gatdula-Rombawa
Overpriced for the food you get. Would not go there without a discount card. Service was first class. The lovely lady who served us (European accent, shame we didn't get her name) is an asset to the restaurant. Friendly yet still very professional. Nice setting, overlooking the swan river. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner experience

Good service!!! Not so good food!!!. Went to Zafferano's for dinner and it was pretty average! We got our entre's and the scallops were very bland! Seafood chowder was only ok! I must say the Beetroot risotto was outstanding!<br/>We then got our mains, the beef cheeks, and they were not cheeks at all, but bowl of mashed meat! It was seasoned well but they were well overcooked! My brother got the barramundi but was unable to eat it because it had a weird fishy taste! My boyfriend was very disappointed with the sirloin steak! It was cooked correctly but was tough and the fat wasn't rendered! Overall was disappointed in the meals! On a good note the service was great!

Had lunch here yesterday (Friday afternoon) it was beautiful. Setting is beautiful, staff were amazing and probably the best wait staff I have had.<br/>we ate red emporia fish with a side of steamed veggies. It was absolutely delicious. desert we had sticky fig and banana pudding - it was also delicious. The only thing I could fault was the noise but that died down after a couple of big groups left.<br/>Expensive - but if you want good good and excellent service in Perth, that is what you pay. <br/>Thank you for a wonderful afternoon

Great - 12 years ago!. This was one of my favorite restaurants....back in the day. Went on the weekend for my birthday dinner - with 2 young kids, going out is such a great that we don't choose just any restaurant.<br/>My husband had made a reservation over a week earlier...turns out they are super busy on a sat evening and there were only 3 tables available - all pretty much in the corridor of the restaurant! I couldn't stop laughing as it felt we were sitting on the naughty kids table - it was beyond ridiculous with all the waiters rushing past us! Anyway we decided to move to another table that was on the edge - slightly better.<br/>Food - average. Seafood platter was underwhelming - and the presentation was poor. Nothing clever on this plate - panfried scallops and prawns were ok, calamari was bizarre - looked like fries. The fish was average and there was a very random chutney on the plate - no idea what for!<br/>Brocolini and asparagus sides was probably my highlight.<br/>Also disappointed by the tomato and buffalo salad - 4 minute pieces of buffalo mozzarella and the tomato didn't seem all that fresh. <br/>French bread was delish...but really, wouldn't go for the bread!!<br/>Overall I was disappointed. Service was patchy and very rushed - they kept saying they'd ask someone to see us about either wine or bread order, but no one came!<br/>It was amazing, a long time ago. I think you are better off trying somewhere else if you are after quality, presentation and technique.

Went to Zafferanos the other week as it was a special birthday. 6 of us dined there and my boyfriend and myself both got steaks medium-rare. When it came out mine was so rare everyone at the table was shocked. Paying $50 for a steak inwhich wasn't cooked correctly sucks. Everyone else enjoyed their meal, just unfortunate mine was just satisfactory.

Outstanding!. I regularly dine at high calibre restaurants and this did NOT disappoint! Its classical interior and unsurpassed views were the backdrop to an exquisite and elegant meal. The cuisine is sumptuous, produce driven and unpretentious. The scallops were succulent, steak was meltingly tender and the prawn risotto- creamy, well seasoned and generously topped with large kings! To finish, I chose the delicious strawberry crepe dessert, flambed and assembled near our table. A little showmanship makes one feel special! The entire meal was perfectly crafted by an aware and experienced team. The manager was very pleasant and helpful and the waitstaff, obliging and timely. Zafferanos can certainly continue its claim, amongst Perth's best dining spots! My looooooving and appreciative tastebuds.... highly recommend it!
Food For Thought..
Excellent. Came here for a Mother's Day dinner and it was amazing. Beautiful views across the river and excellent food. Service is outstanding, without being intrusive. They have a very good wine list and desserts to die for. Although pricey, it's well worth every cent. I look forward to coming back to Zafferano's.

We had our wedding reception at zafferanos on the 16th march. It was unbelievable how good it was, the food is outstanding and the service is above and beyond. I highly recommend zafferanos.all of our guests were amazed at the food and also the amount of choices. Ross and the team at zafferanos, u made our wedding so fantastic, thankyou

Best night for ages. Our daughter and son-in-law had their wedding reception here last Sunday. All our family and friends have raved about what a good night it was, the staff were wonderful, couldn't fault them. We have a few fussy eaters in our family, and we were well catered for. Absolutely delicious, best vegan meal I have had out. We would recommend this place to everyone. Apparently we just missed Mick Jagger too.

So disappointed ! My hubby wanted to take me out for a special birthday dinner. While the location is fantastic and the service impeccable, I ordered the tiger prawns special and risotto, The prawns were well over cooked the risotto under seasoned peas under cooked in the risotto I could have cooked it much better. When we received a bill I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the dish cost $58 !!. Soooo overpriced and we are unimpressed.

Very happy camper!!. Can not understand why the rating is so low- definitely one of the best nights I've had eating out in Perth to date!<br/><br/>Food, wine and service was outstanding! <br/><br/>To start with we had oysters.. AMAZING (natural, kilpatrick and a couple other great variations). The chef's special of chilled avocado and mango crayfish as our shared entrée was light and fresh- perfect for a balmy summers night. Amelia Park Lamb for my main (melt in your mouth..) and another chef special for my partner- the Jumbo Tiger Prawn risotto. Needless to say we had a mini break between mains and dessert to finish our drinks and loosen our belts!!<br/><br/>My partner drank a bottle of the Salitage Chardonnay (although not usually a huge white fan I quite enjoyed a glass of this little number), however I stuck to the cocktail list. The caprioska's and espresso martini's were by far my favourite!<br/><br/>To finish the night off we shared the Turkish Delight Parfait (we were just to full to get a dessert each- not matter how much I wanted to!) PERFECT ending to the evening! Not to sweet with just a hint of turkish delight and pistachios, this light and fluffy dish surprised me and was presented in the most beautiful way!<br/><br/>Although a pricey night all up- taking into account the quality of the food, the location right on the water and the attentive staff who were knowledgeable and helpful with both food and wine selection- it was very well priced (especially with an entertainment card)! <br/><br/>It is not often that you leave a venue trying hard to find a fault- thank you Zafferano for a wonderful evening. I will be back very very soon!

This place is amazing. I was shocked when I saw such a low rating actually)<br/>Been living close by for months and only just tried them tonight.<br/><br/>Was welcomed by the owner, we had a joke about the fact that they are tolerant about dairy and gluten intolerance.<br/><br/>Food is absolutely outstanding, garlic bread, risotto and awesome wine. <br/><br/>I leave with a warm feeling, enjoyed the view and extremely satisfied.<br/><br/>You must try this place

Very disappointed. We ate at this restaurant on Friday and we were very disappointed. My husband ordered a chargrilled fillet steak which was neither fillet nor chargrilled and was also not medium rare as he requested. It was boiled. It arrived swimming in a bowl of jus along with the potatoes. He could not eat it- he never returns food. My carpaccio was tough. I have never had tough carpaccio before. I think the chef needs to review his meat supplier. <br/>On a positive note. The location is fantastic, the service was good and the staff did not charge my husband for his meal. With so many options in Perth these days we will not be returning.
Tracy
Disappointing. The food might have looked wonderful but we were seated outside in the pitch dark and could not see what we were eating. Two in the party ate the rosemary garnish by accident. When the sweets menu came out we were given torches to read it! No tablecloths either. This is an expensive restaurant. But we didn't get a fine dining experience
Juanita
Disappointing. We chose this restaurant for dinner because of the location, and were not disappointed with the stunning views of the river and Perth skyline but our pleasant experience ended there. We found the atmosphere stale and the staff disinterested, pushy and insincere. The price of the 'specials of the day' were not disclosed by the wait staff and were more expensive than the menu items; our water was being constantly refilled which ended in a $40 water bill; the $48 steak was grisly; the children's meals tiny and they left hungry (5 pieces of pasta in the bottom of a huge bowl) and the 11 year old at the table commented the Eton Mess, $21.50, was '...good but not as good as the one she makes'. All in all we found Zafferano's to be over rated and the food to be below average and overpriced.
Linzoid
We were attracted to this restaurant by its location. We came away disappointed by the overall experience.<br/><br/>We had a table on the terrace and we could not fault the view back towards the CBD.<br/><br/>However, the service was appalling and certainly did not match the huge price tag. It took at least ten minutes for our drinks order to be taken. When our drinks eventually came out it was the wrong wine. We finally got the correct wine after we had received our starter.<br/><br/>The food was good but did not warrant the cost as it was not exceptional.<br/><br/>I wouldn't recommend a friend to go.

We had a fantastic Christmas lunch their great service lovely location and fantastic food

Warm night on the Swan. Could have easily been ruined, but this place held up well under scrutiny. Wonderful venue with a slightly modern, upmarket Itlian vibe. Buzzy, but not noisy like the brewery next door. We had a table outside on the veranda. White lanterns appropriately dressed staff. I kept waiting for the shoe to drop. The food was excellent. We both started with the seafood chowder. It was fresh and held the right balance of flavor. I had the Chorizo pasta as a main and was impressed that the chorizo was beatifully spiced and properly cooked (as in not overcooked or dry). My partner asked for his snapper to be deep fried instead of grilled and was given his main exactly as it should be...beautifully flakey inside. I could wonder through a description of the wonderfully crips wine, fresh side dishes and fabulously stuffed cheese tray he had for desert, but I think I'll tease you with the real, honestly...I wouldn't kid you...Tiramisu (something I have been searching high and low for in this town). Trying hard to find some form of critisism? It would have to be that the servers were just a bit too attentive. But all in all...we will be coming back!
Sarah
A busy and blisteringly Christmas Friday and so may places booked out. Our group had to leave the appalling Raffles Hotel, and Zafferano accommodated us at the last minute, with a table outside but in full shade. The staff were wonderful, service efficient and the food terrific. Thank you for turning a potential disaster into something great.
Stacey May Spagnoletti
Outstanding. My husband and I went for dinner and were wowed by the setting, the service, the decor and definitely the food and wine. Our waitress Kristin was spectacular, present without being overbearing and made insightful recommendations. She brought the proprietor over to recommend wine for our meal and although an expensive bottle, I was more than happy to pay the price for the most beautiful Chardonnay I've had in years. It was a special evening, the table side crepe Suzette was a delight and all the staff were wonderful. Well worth the spend.

A night to remember. Had our wedding reception there back in June 2013 and it was really a night to remember. Everyone love the food, atmosphere and service was excellent :)

Jury's Out. Lovely setting, glassware, napery, cutlery, attentive staff to the point of rushed service, giving you feeling they are trying to turn the table, so not really sure what this restaurant is trying to be. Food was ok but for $45+ a main, plus sides and an expensive wine list, you go there for a special night yet it is a mixture of intimate and large tables, noisy fellow diners in jeans and t-shirts and food ok but comes out quickly. We were home, there and back in under 3 hours and sort of wished we had gone to our local for half the price.

My partner took me here for my birthday recently. Lovely romantic setting with beautiful views of the city from across the river. Delicious meals! We had a side of breads & Carpaccio, a main of barramundi and salmon & desert of pecan and butterscotch tart & chocolate pudding & we would highly reccomend them all :) the table service was brilliant, very friendly waiters and waitresses. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the front of house who after paying $300 on food and wine, didn't even acknowledge us leaving. Other than that, fabulous place!
Cymantha Heather
My fiance took me here for my birthday last night. The service, food and atmosphere were incredible. Neither of us went home hungry like we have in the past at other restaurants. Our waitress made me a sangria even though it isn't on the menu and it was one of the best sangria I have had so far. It was her first time time making one too I was very impressed. I had the Amelia park lamb and my fiance had the seafood plate and both were fantastic. We would definitely go here again it is definitely worth the money. We paid $350 inc a tip and we got a bottle of moet, sangria, garlic bread, two mains, one side and a cheese plate to share for dessert. I understand what some people are saying about the lighting but it was perfect for what we were there for.

Amazing service fantastic food little pricey but its definitely worth it

Very good seafood! We Had the seafood platter and king prawn pasta. A bit pricey, but overall a good meal. The waitress looking after us was very attentive.

Lovely atmosphere, fantastic service and a wonderfully diverse menu. Really impressed by this place, get out there.

Love this place. This restaurant is amazing, not had a bad meal here in all the time I have been frequenting the place.

Attended last night. Amazing food, service and ambience. Highly recommend the Lobster risotto, crepes and cheese platter. Will be back again!

One of the best experience for wedding reception I've been. Staffs are happy, accomodating and very attentive. Special mention to Steven who eve makes the effort to ensure that the little kids play safely in the alfresco area. Food are tasty, well presented and just the right temperature. Great team you have! Definitely the place to recommend

Simply gorgeous. I was lucky enough to be taken here for dinner last night (a Wednesday). It was very quiet, only one other couple, but this did not dampen the wait staffs' attentions. We were great by a lovely Scottish man and given our choice of tables, right at the windows overlooking the Swan and city. Everything on the menu was enticing. I settled on the Calamari and my hubby on the daily special of the Dhu fish.<br/><br/>So so so delicious!! Excellent wine, attentive staff and we were even complimented with a free port each at the end of our meal. We used our Entertainment Card, but luckily they did not scratch it, so we will definitely be back!!<br/><br/>I don't know why the rating is only 60%. It is a gorgeous restaurant in a beautiful location with amazing food and staff.
Vanessa Truter
Awesome views, great food, excellent wait staff. Couldn't have asked for any better!

The name and the look are Italian, but the food it is not. I had a seafood platter which was quite expensive but honestly was basically pub food: a restaurant like that should not serve such food, Italian or not.

An evening to remember!. So, last Saturday night was Good Daughter Day and I decided to treat my folks to dinner... and it didn't disappoint!<br/><br/>We got to the restaurant through the brewery eventually found ourselves in a very romantic looking restaurant! The maitre'd immediately came over to greet us with a smile and commented that we came in through the "secret" entrance! Love it!<br/><br/>We were ushered to our table (at a window) and were immediately offered our choice of water and a wine list and I decided to choose the Howard Park Flint Rock Pinot Noir (Mt Barker) to start with. <br/><br/>I commented to the maitre'd on how good the Pinot Noir was and she recommended another wine that she had tasted at a previous Zafferano tasting event - the Forrest Hill Highbury Fields Cabernet/Merlot (South Australia). Her enthusiasm in the telling of this experience definitely led to my decision to try the Forrest Hill red next!<br/><br/>I kind of went a bit crazy when we ordered (I just wanted to try everything!), but we chose to each have a Rockefeller oyster, the Seafood Chowder (which the kitchen so kindly split into 3 bowls for us so we could all try it), and the Carpaccio - and it was all SO GOOD! I'm a big fan of chowder and theirs is creamy and rich, but you don't feel like it's so rich that you can't have more than a few spoonfuls! <br/><br/>For our mains we enjoyed the Braised Amelia Park Beef Cheeks with parmesen gnocchi (OMG YUM!) and the Seafood Plate, which had beautifully cooked prawns, perfectly seared scallops, flaky fish fillet and gorgeous little calamari fingers - DELICIOUS!<br/><br/>I couldn't go past the Broccolini and Asparagus with a Macadamia Nut and Parmesan Crumble, Mash with truffle oil (I just couldn't resist!) and dad loves potatoes, so we had to get the Hand Cut Chips too!<br/><br/>Mum and dad were pretty full, but when we walked in, we saw they had a crepe station set up! Mum was like "I'm so full! Just a coffee." but I convinced her to have the Flambé Crepe Suzette (YAY!) <br/><br/>The owner wheeled the station over to our table, and started to make our crêpe Suzette. You really wouldn't want to be self-conscious, because all eyes were on him whilst he was making our crepes! Gotta love the flambé part; it's so impressive! Equally impressive was their Butterscotch Creme Brulee!<br/><br/>Suffice to say, we walked out feeling VERY satisfied with every part of our experience at Zafferano... will definitely be going back!

Update. Had a mixed evening where an old friend proposed to his girlfriend.<br/>Food and table service was AMAZING.<br/>Treatment by the floor manager was... uninspiring... following a table mix-up.<br/><br/>Received a call from the head chef on behalf of the owner with a heart felt and sincere apology. I've not experienced such a dedication to customer service before.<br/><br/>I'm certainly inclined to try Zafferano's again, I can not overstate jusr how amazing the food was.<br/><br/>I would recommend that you confirm any special bookings prior to the event, to ensure you get the table you requested.
Tom Nguyen
Good effort but.... The service of this place seemed quite adequate. The river views were nice, and the best table for a view would be in the corner of the windows. <br/><br/>Apple Martini was quite refreshing, smooth and only a hint of alcohol. <br/><br/>The chowder looked very appetizing, and the smell would make a hungry man's mouth water. However, the taste of the chowder seemed bland (unusual for a seafood chowder dish as the seafood would have added some saltiness to it), and I had to add quite a bit of seasoning to get it to my preferrable taste. The prawns did not taste fresh, if not frozen. Scallops had been cooked for too long that it had toughened and shrank in considerable size.<br/><br/>The steak was somewhat dissapointing. $45 dollars for a "prime fillet sirloin" and it was filled with chewy lumps of tendon and veins. The taste of the mushroom tart that came with it matched well with the steak and red wine jus. <br/><br/>Overall, good effort but the steak was definitely a let down. I felt like I was taken advantaged of paying for an average meal at high prices. I may come back to see if things change but not anytime soon. <br/>8/10: Ambience; <br/>8/10: Service; <br/>6/10 for food; and <br/>3/10: value.

Over priced for the tiny breakfast servings. Very small breakfast menu, not much choice, won't be back.

Love this place. We love this place for the view, but it also has beautiful food and great service!

Redeemed. Went to Zafferano approx 13 months ago and had a shocking experience. For the first time in our lives, we emailed through a complaint. The complaint was handled perfectly by the manager and he responded to everything we commented upon and said they were going thru a transitional period. <br/><br/>Recently we returned upon request by the manager and were completely astounded by the change. A different restaurant greeted us. Service was great where before is was lacklustre, the food was wonderful where before it was bland and left too long under the heat lamps and the entire experience was vastly improved. <br/><br/>I really appreciate when a restaurant turns it around like this and would recommend the 'new Zafferano' to my friends.

Great river view. My wife and I came here especially for the view, enjoyed the night, food a little expensive but expected that. <br/>Certainly try the Expresso Martini, or two.<br/>thanks

Disappointing Anniversary Dinner. Great expectations from friend recommendations were sadly not met on a March 13 30th anniversary dinner here. First item had promise - a very well done bruschetta - but the seafood pasta that followed was un-inspired. The rice dish we cancelled earlier magically showed up and was returned; the Tasmanian salmon dish was overly smoked, poorly presented and was apparently presided over by a heavy-handed sea salter in the kitchen - so much so that my wife developed a sore in her mouth and we had the dish taken back. And then a good 15 minutes after we finished the pasta main, the "signature" chowder appetizer showed up, which was again uninspired. A lovely riverside venue yes - but that's about it. Opt for the Old Swan Brewery next door, next time.

Menu. We went on the recommendation of fellow gym friends. Absolutely divine. I eat a paleo diet and made my diet known, Ross (chef) was more than accommodating, he made a special dessert which was exquisite. We will return

Snobbish waitress and food over priced. View is great but can get these views elsewhere with better service. <br/><br/>Perth please clean up your act with your customer service! Ashame to say I'm a perthite after coming back from Syd!

Delicious. So my parents are meeting my girlfreinds parents for the first time and im thinking - I have enough to be worried about except the food like, will our dads punch on or our mums get too p1ssed and stack it but I am happy to say that the night was fantastic. Beautiful location on the river. Friendly, competent wait staff and the meals huge and tasty. Worth the price. We will return, though without the parent.

Thurs 28th Feb I organised a function for 20 at Zafferanos. From the moment we arrived we were not disappointed, drinks were ready to go and the wait staff were hot on glasses that needed topping up. We were seated to 2 tables of 10 with beautiful views across the river. I had arranged for set menu option 1to be served on the night and it was just as delicious (if not more so) as it sounded on paper. The food was just sensational and the portions were generous! <br/>Overall we had a fabulous evening with a wonderful setting, beautiful food and impeccable service! In fact my manager has been back twice since and it's only been just over a week! <br/>Thank you staff at zafferanos, it was perfect!
Dinner-er
Pricey, but you are paying for an AMAZING location. We had the best seat available outside on a balmy summers night with a beautiful skyline to admire. Food definitely wasn't WOW as it was fairly generic (as such a restaurant has must be to please the masses) but it was done well & was delicious. We were also lucky to have great service. One of the few fine dining restaurants in Perth that still offers some privacy for couples to have a romantic dinner. Definitely recommend Zaffereno to others.
Rachael
Terrible service, lovely food but pricey. Took some friends there who were on holiday and they were amazed at the location and view but baffled by the prices and shocked by the rude service. Went for lunch and don't know whether they just expected not to serve anyone but considering we were the only ones there for 2 hours having lunch we had three different staff who were all as bad with service. We couldn't fault the food but the high end price deserved the service to go with it.
Shane
Disappointment - a common theme. As with a number of the reviewers here, I had an exceedingly disappointing experience at Zafferanos. <br/><br/>I took my wife for a romantic evening and meal on the river and although the place was relatively quiet, we were shown to a table that was located well back in the restaurant, and as the night got busier, we were completely obscured from any view of the river.<br/><br/>We enjoyed the entre's enough, but our mains were incredibly bland and in some instances overcooked. I had the braised beef cheeks and my wife had the duck. Both dishes were dark looking (almost black) and presented in a very uninspired fashion. But is was the flavour that got me (or lack thereof). Here's a tip for Zafferano's; if your clientele are paying top dollar for their meals, they want to be WOW'ed. These dishes were less wow and more, yawn! We paid about $50 per main and although reasonable sized portions, we both felt that we had eaten better tasting food elsewhere (and at considerably less expense).<br/><br/>The service too was highly disappointing. Although we were attended well early, as soon as the restaurant became busy, we were quickly forgotten. I specifically asked for the wine menu so that I could order a glass of red with my meal, but was not asked if I would like to order another drink until I had almost finished my meal. Again, if you expect people to pay for excellence, you must provide them with excellence!<br/><br/>I won't be going back, and I definitely won't be recommending Zafferano's to my friends.
TAI_PAN
OK BUT HAVE HAD BETTER SERVICE. I have had better service, the Staff were friendly but slow. <br/>Had to ask for Wine several times.<br/>Food is good, but have had better.<br/>View is HEAVEN.<br/>Yes I would go back, but I know what to expect now, so would pick my times perhapse.
Macfish Notes
There are only a handful of eateries in Perth which take full advantage of their location on the river or the beach. Zafferano is up there with the best. Great location; easy access to parking; then when you finally make an entrance through the old Swan Brewery you are greeted with great attentive customer service, good wine list and a selection of tasty well plated food. We had a great dining experience once again. This time for our anniversary. Thank you to front and back-of-house for a wonderful lunch. Will definitely be back.

A Lovely Meal. I was really impressed with Zafferano. The ambience and the view is perfect, very romantic. Staff were attentive and friendly. I ordered the Amelia Park Lamb and it was the best lamb I think I’ve ever eaten. The portion sizes are also quite generous so I was quite happy to pay a bit more for the food and an all round enjoyable experience. Will be back again.

I went here for dinner. As a celiac I absolutely loved how well they looked after me. The food was amazing. Atmosphere was lovely. Great staff.

Never again. Sadly made the mistake of ordering the pork belly.<br/>I got three 25 mm cubes of fat with a minute portion of meat attached <br/>Basically $15 per cube for fat, didn't come with any vegetables as they had to be ordered separately.<br/>Suckling pig in Bali is far superior.

Excellent night - Guide Dog friendly. We enjoyed excellent service and a very well prepared meal at Zafferano. The seafood plate was delicious. The staff were very welcoming to our guide dog in training.

Perfect!! a match for melbourne. I've been to Zafferanos twice so far and I just can't get enough!<br/>The first time we went for a lazy saturday breakfast - it was fairly busy and only 1 waitress on (??) but she did her very best to please - my eggs benedict was poached perfectly and my husbands english breakfast was HUGE and delicious, combined with good coffees and an amazing veiw - perfect. <br/>We went back the following saturday for dinner and it was amazing! I had the special tiger prawns and mushroom risotto, and the hubby had the fillet steak, both were amazing. we shared a bottle of bowen estate(?) shiraz which was decanted at the table and the waitress told us a little about the winery and how it was made - nice touch. Finished off with a heavenly chocolate pudding from the special menu and some port. <br/>The service: attentive and knowledgeable<br/>The food: amazing<br/>The view: to die for<br/>10/10 Perfect - we will be back.
Nadia
I did not like this restaurant at all. The food for what you paid was shocking! Not fine dining at all! The restaurant only had our table and another table to serve so not busy at all but I can't see why anyone would want to go there! I don't think I would ever go there again I would prefer to go to a cheaper restaurant then go back there and pay silly prices for that food. Very disappointed

Totally disappointed!. It may be hailed as one of Perth's top restaurants but the brush-off we received today was no excuse! It's our wedding anniversary today so we decided we'd try Zafferano Restaurant based on the reviews we'd read. We made a booking thru the internet and had it confirmed yesterday 9th October. They called my husband today (the 10th) but he was unavailable so returned the call later and spoke to a man and again confirmed the booking for 6.30pm. Well, we rolled up at 6.30 on the dot looking forward to a nice dinner. The waitress who took our name then asked if we were aware that the Forest Hill Winemaker's Dinner was on (I guess we weren't dressed to the nines). My husband said he wasn't told anything when he'd called back to confirm so the waitress asked if he remembered who took his call. This guy standing behind my husband said he had (that's all he said) and the waitress then said that sorry he's the manager and there's nothing she could do. And that was it. All we got was a sorry from her but the manager didn't even bother to come over and apologise. It totally ruined our anniversary and we had to call up a few places before we found somewhere to dine.

Amazing & Fantastic. This is my most Favourite italian restaurant! the atmosphere is amazing and fantastic. Food and service are superb. This is a must try and i promise after one bite you really will be hooked!

Unfriendly staff. Was my birthday last year and i had to remind the waitress it was my birthday. Terrible service! we spent so much money and got nothing but frowns.

Great degustation with matching wines. This dinner was fantastic. Vases felix showcased their new vintages and the food pairings were spot on. I have never visited and ordered a la carte so i cant comment on that, but for this event it was Good service, lovely atmosphere, great food and wine. Finally a $100+ /head meal that I wasn't disappointed with here in Perth.
The Big Man
Pricey but very good gruel. Fillet was tender and the oysters were fresh from the gullet. Service was excellent and the nocturnal view of Perth was fantastic. No complaints. TBM

Pricey but excellent quality. My partner and I dined here on a Saturday night to celebrate a refund from the tax man. It was well needed as it doesn't come cheap, but the Entertainment book voucher helped. The food quality was excellent though with my partner having oysters and a full lobster and I had some prawns (good size and quantity) and the beef cheeks with Gnochi which were delicious. Certainly a restaurant for special occasions, but the food, wine, service and ambience were all of the highest quality.

Bowers Family. Impressive location by the Swan River, candle lit tables adds a romantic touch, perfect for an intimate evening. The owner greeted us with warmth and made us feel welcome. The staff were very attentive and friendly and we did not feel rushed or pressured to order. The staff had great knowledge of their menu and extensive wine list. <br/>The Chef's special of whiting fillets was a big hit, a good serving of delicately crumbed fillets. The beef cheeks are to die for, very tender.<br/>A very pleasant experience. Highly recommend this restaurant to visitors to Perth and locals because the location and food is outstanding. Thanks for a good night.

Amazing location, attentive staff, gorgeous food, a tad pricey however you pay for the ambiance and experience

We spent the day there!. Sometimes you just need to do it. Went for breakfast as guests of our friends. The four of us settled in joked about having a look at the lunch menu, yes, we were tempted and stayed. The beef cheeks were excellent and the seafood chowder was creamy and delicious. The conversation raised the topic of who of the four of us had ever stayed at a restaurant for three meals in a day, none of the four of us had so the challenge was on. Dinner was great and my Dhufish wings to die for! Smiles all round. We will be back.

Never again!. Went to Zafferano's for my birthday with some friends and was so disappointed. Its time to get out of the 1980s! The lighting was so low I couldn't actually see what I was eating - which I think may have been the point! The four of us ordered different meals and each plate had the same port flavoured jus! I'm not sure chicken and duck go with a heavy sauce?! <br/>Dessert menu lists Affogato but it doesn't have coffee - its a gelato with amaretto and a biscotti...what!? So instead my friend and I ordered an espresso, vanilla ice-cream and shot of amaretto and made it ourselves. Couldn't fault the dessert! My husband ordered the apple and blueberry crumble which we think was muesli and blueberries with a sweetened condensed milk sauce. Not good. <br/>The service was a little over the top and inconsistent. They also left our wine bucket over a metre away from the table which was fine if they had the staff to keep filling out glasses, but they were clearly understaffed and we had to keep filling our own glass - which required a hike to the wine bucket and back. <br/>In general, very disappointed with a night I was really looking forward to. Won't be going back.

Have had both dinner and breakfast here and both were delicious! Have had great staff and good food. The breakfast is very well priced and the French toast is to die for! Love the breakfasts here!

Very disappointing. Good starter selection, then main course a real let down - had the seafood platter at approx 56$, which incl more of the starter, some bland prawns and a nicely cooked piece of Red Snapper. Nice location, but food was expensive and not up to standard. Dinner visit, Feb '12

Lovely. Went to Zafferano's and after reading some of the reviews I was a bit dubious. I had the duefish with mushroom risotto which was lovely and the service was extremely good. Would definately go again but during the day so that the lovely view of the river can be taken full advantage of.

Very impressing. Fantastic view, delicious food and ok service!

Went here for lunch with my family. 2 kids and 2 adults. Place was pretty quiet apart from a couple of other tables. Kids choices are limited to chicken/steak/fish with chips although I have to say, both of mine didn't mind theirs (fish and chips and steak (round steak) with chips) kids portions were obviously small however the price was not at $20 per head. Main course for the adults was chilli calamari (entre size for the missus) and chicken ceaser salad for me. Calamari batter was soggy and the dish was generally bland. Chicken ceaser was ok however the crunchy bread crunched up into it was old and stale! Ordered drinks (2 beers, 2 juices and a bottle of sparkling mineral water)... $135!! For the money i expected better. Won't be going back again.

Good food. bad service. We ate the steak and lamb, cooked well. Very enjoyable. <br/>Lovely view. <br/>Had every waitstaff possible serve us at some point during the night... was very inconsistent. Because of this our meals went to other tables and there was constant confusion throughout the night. <br/>Cocktails were pricey but enjoyable.

Good find !. Food was tasty, not amazing but nice! <br/>cheapest turkish bread i have seen on a menu for a long time $9.50. You pay close to $20 in most bars/pubs and its served straight out of a tin/jar. <br/><br/>attentive service! amazing views ! <br/><br/>only complaint ..bread that came with the ceasar salad was stale.
Yummilicious
Nice view. Love the view but the food is just ok.

Food was great, view was fantastic! My cup was dirty and the teapots, yes two, where chipped! Not really fine dining!

Pretty good, but felt rushed. Went to Zafferano last night for belated Valentine's day dinner. As we booked only a few days ago we were far away from the water which was disappointing. Service was friendly and VERY attentive, at times to the point we felt we were being rushed out the door before the next booking. Turkish bread starter (yummy) was brought out fast, followed by our entrees about 1 min later! Tiger prawn special was good, my chili, salt and pepper squid was disappointing - soggy and quite tasteless. About 5 mins after finishing entree our mains were out - rib eye was beautifully cooked rare as ordered, my king prawn risotto was nice, very rich with lots of prawns. After asking for a little break before dessert, we shared a creme brulee which was very delicious, served with cream and rhubarb chutney. Was a pretty expensive dinner (especially seeing as we were seated for a little under 2 hours, didnt get time to relax and enjoy it as much as I had hoped), even with the entertainment card which got my main for free. Asahi middies of beer were $12 each (way too expensive in my opinion). I left feeling full but a little disappointed about not being able to relax, enjoy the view and a romantic dinner, but would probably go back on a week night or make a booking more ahead of time, but at a later time eg 7.30pm instead of 6.30pm.

Excellent, service was very good. Appetizer, main course and dessert were prepared and served beautifully. The service was not rushed and was attentative. The wine selection was delightful blend of domestic and foreign wines.

Not a good experience. The food here was on the whole quite good, however the service was really bad. We had about 14 different wait people serving our table throughout the night. We were brought the wrong food and the table next door was brought ours. The could not find the wine we wanted and when we questioned this they managed to find it. We had to ask to order desert and they forgot to serve our coffee with dessert . The place wasn't even full that night not what I would expect for the price we paid.

Lovely location great view! I went there for Saturday lunch with a few friends and I had a lovely Pinot noir which I thoroughly enjoyed however I ordered the caesar salad and this was very disappointing! Quite basic I have had better at cafe"s. this was overpriced for what it was and service was terrible considering we were the only customers there and 2 staff on. My glass was empty on a few occasions. I then decided to order dessert and was disappointed also mostly cream with no real flavor. I won't be returning as I regretted the money I handed over for this meal. Disappointing
Would Not Recommend.....
Would not recommend..... One of the worst (and priciest) restaurant experiences I have had. I took the opportunity to talk with duty manager after to give some constructive criticism - no real satisfactory response. Menu was not correct (a vegetarian diner ended up with bacon!), fish was very poor (and very pricey) swimming in oil, no suggetsion by waitress for greens (we went withoout), food coming out in dribs and drabs.....I could go on. Shame as we had guests from the east and chose because of view and their seafood menu.

Waste of time and money. Went to zafferano 2yrs ago it was fantastic enrico was excelent food , wine and service the best. WHAT HAPPENED!!!<br/>food was a mix of kabbab shop and food court horror, bad tabbouleh mushy fish (frozen?) soft mushy tasteless prawns and please sell squid not rubber. the service was a joke , enrico I was told has left, what a shame the place has gone to the dogs, I have never been so disappointed in returning to what use to be a grate restaurant shame on you . PS.what happened to the chef !!!

Head next door. Pretty uninspiring and bland. Go to The Grill next door.

A "Perth" fine dining experience. Well.... we made it back to Zafferano after many years and I can say it certainly has improved since last time.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, the last time we dined there as part of a large table of friends and the ordering (and the final bill) got quite out of hand. As such is was a very expensive night out with very little of the fine dining experience to remember. I cant blame the restaurant for that. <br/>Note to self: fine dining restaurants are best enjoyed at a table for two, not as part of the large work xmas party, or boys night out...<br/>So, last Friday night we returned to Zafferano as a couple and it was much better. It was a perfect Perth night with the doors and windows open, and a lovely cool breeze blowing. We sat and watched the yachts on the river and enjoyed the ambience all night.<br/>We made an early booking and the initial service was a little rushed (asking for our orders before we had been able to open the menu). We noted that the restaurant was set with many large tables and obviously they were in a hurry to get us through so they could deal with the large groups that night.<br/>The food was quite good and definitely up to a fine dining standard, but again (for Perth) the fine dining service experience was a little underwhelming. Unfortunately, the age of the waitresses was youngish and I would expect that their level of training and experiences of fine dining may be a little lacking. Waitresses mis-pronouncing and not understanding items listed on the menu, or not being able to correctly pour the wine are quite acceptable at cafe dining places, but when you charge fine dining prices, you should provide the complete fine dining experience.<br/><br/>We enjoyed the evening and were happy with the final account, so will probably go back again for a special night out in the future.

Amazing views, has a great atmosphere. Good service. The food is simply fantastic. The seafood platter was a winner. The scallops were the best ever - cooked to perfection.

Living in the 80s. Decor and menu took me straight back to the 80's. All white meditteranean tiles, daggy menu and an obsession with combining fruit and fish. I mean stone fruit chutney with the seafood platter? Huh?<br/><br/>Anyway, I did have a lovely dhufish with tabbouleh and feta. Not really a tabbouleh as I couldn't find the burghul - it was mostly parsley - but pleasant nonetheless. Beautiful piece of fish.<br/><br/>Shared part of a prawn and mango (see - 80s!) salad. Prawns were mushy and underseasoned. Not great.<br/><br/>Service was excellent. Very attentive (and tolerant) throughout our VERY long lunch. This is what tipped this retro overpriced establishment into the 'like it' category for me. Won't be back in a hurry but wouldn't run a mile from it either.

Conned. Make sure you are the correct restaurant. My husband and I made a booking for The Old Brewery and mistakenly walked into Zafferano. On asking about our booking, we were told there was no booking. We asked the waitress if there was another restaurant and was immediately spoken over by the duty manager and shown to a table. After we had finished our meal, the waitress did actually tell us we were in the wrong restaurant. On complaining the next day (the duty manager was nowhere to be seen), we were told it was our problem and too bad. I would never go back. They conned us and spoilt what was supposed to be a celebration anniversary dinner and didnt care. Not impressed at all.

Service was perfect. All staff were welcoming and attentive ( even though we had a voucher). We had a table overlooking the river so perfect location. Food was delicious. While the price is above average for a main meal it is well worth it due to the quality, taste and generous portion size. While this is a 'fancy' restaurant the ambience was relaxed and friendly. Unlike other similar tier restaurants that can make you feel uncomfortable or out of place. Highly recommended!

Pricey but good. All the food over here reminds me of masterchef on tV <br/>beautiful presentation and excellent taste ,so many flavors in all dishes but all so well mixed .<br/><br/>And it got millions dollars sea view to boot ..if you got a special occassion to celebrate and and a fat wallet . definitely go here

Service of the wait staff was definately 5 stars. However the food was far from impressive for the price range. For $4 each natural oyster, it should have been freshly shucked, instead it tasted like a ready shucked oyster from my local supermarket. The Angus steak that is priced at $45, it was rather chewy. I am bitterly disappointed by Zafferano for charging customers 5 star restaurant prices for food standard that does not match that price range.
Twin Options
Zero-fanno's. As a highly recommended restaurant I was obviously excited enough I booked for a group of 12 for two people's birthday. I was encouraged to book the Set Menu as the perfect option for such a large group. I was told on the phone I would need to pay a 10% deposit for the group, it was non refundable and she would call me closer to the date to confirm. (She called the morning of to confirm numbers. Nothing else was mentioned)<br/><br/>We had three people cancel, not because of tardiness but for personal reasons. So we advised it was only going to be 9 of us as we arrived.<br/> <br/>It all strarted to go bad from there.<br/><br/>The four of us wanted to sit and have a drink at the bar and wait for our friends. We ordered Gin And Tonic's but when our drinks came they were Gin and Soda! So we kindly asked fot them to be swapped for what we ordered only to get attitude from the bar lady. Her comment loud enough for us to hear, was, "They want Tonic!!!!!!!"<br/><br/>All 9 nof us arrived for dinner and ordered off our set menu, also quite a few drinks and bottle's of wine. The salads and green veggies didnt arrive until we asked if they were coming out.<br/> <br/>We all had a fantastic night and complimented the Creme Brule at how well it was made and how yummy it was. <br/><br/>UNTIL the bill arrived. <br/><br/>We were charged for 12 people. Now some would say thats ok, that we booked for 12 and should be charged for 12. But not once was this mentioned to me, or have I had it happen at any other restaurant. So I went to the desk to enquire about it. I was polite and calm. We understand business and are fair people. But we are not fair people when we get asked, "Do you like the view? because we pay $350,000 a month rent for it" - *So are we paying for the view of your food?*. So after much discussion and back and forth he told me he would take them off, "but only this once". - Buddy, we wont be coming back after we have been treated this way.<br/><br/>After much discussion on the way home, we felt sorry for this man who is clearly on edge about his business loosing money. But to treat customers the way he did is unforgiveable.

Rip off. Went to zafferano for breakfast the food was ok but $7 for a glass of bottled juice, and the wrong meals got served to us. the table next to us seemed to be having issues also, i guess some people like the whole white gloves service but this isn't the 80's.perused the dinner menu while there and will give it a miss, i guess the rent must be high there but $40 for a vegetarian risotto is ridiculous.

Glad I wasn't paying.... So disappointed. Three of us had the prawn salad for lunch and it was embarrassing how awful it was. Other dishes were okay but not at all outstanding. Chilli crab pasta seemed to be the best on the table but was a special so who knows how much that cost! Bad service, lack of atmosphere for a weekend lunch and such high prices for average/below-average food. What a waste of an amazing location! Next time I will go to the Old Brewery...

We had a beautiful lunch. The food was fantastic, but the service could have been better.

Entertainment Card Not Valid???. Totally Unacceptable. The Owner basically said we can't use our 3rd Entertainment Card for our meals because we didn't spend enough money. Another staff said we needed to spend ~$1000. I told the owner we have 6 people, each ordering 1 main meal each ($45-56 each), however he said they had their own rules and don't follow the Entertainment Book rules otherwise they will be out of business. That is totally unacceptable and not honouring your agreement. With an attitude like that you'll definitely be out of business!!! I have been looking forward to eating at this restaurant a long time, however was bitterly disappointed. The food was well below average and outrageously overpriced for what you get, like my seafood plate for $56. Worse than fish and chips, And what's with that raspberry jam sauce? Does that actually go with anything on the plate? <br/><br/>Definitely won't be going there again. If the owner can't honour his commitment he definitely doesn't deserve to own a restaurant with a reputation like Zafferano.
Master And The Chef
Very disappointed.... I went here recently for dinner and was very disappointed. I previously loved this restaurant, but since Albasio La Pegna sold it, the restaurant has lost all of its finesse. <br/>Very over priced, for poor quality food and service. <br/>The view, as always, is spectacular and the flaming crepe suzettes are still a winner, but everything else is a dive. <br/>My opinion is that your money would be better spent elsewhere.

I liked zafferano.you have to try the chowder for entre and the donuts for desert. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion.

My wife and I thought we'd try Zafferano's out again after some good reviews from family and friends. We'd been there a couple of years ago and had been disappointed with the service and the food. I have to say that the food was a major improvement and we both loved everything we ordered. Sadly, the service still spoilt the meal. The staff were inattentive and we had to wait over 20 mins in between getting our menus and ordering. When the dessert menu arrived, it was around 30 mins before I had to get up and asked for someone to take our order! The waitress was extremely apologetic and very pleasant but the night had been spoilt already. Add to this the sight of a rat scurrying in the bushes behind and we definitely won't be coming back here again. Its simply inexcusable for customers to be sitting around frantically waving their arms trying to get staff to serve them at every stage of the meal! Such a shame. Brilliant location, great tasting food but the poor service let's the establishment down badly.

Had breakfast ( or tried to ) on Saturday. It was about 9 am when we arrived , 7 people , and about 1010am when breakfast arrived. 2 of us ordered the tasty sounding fig and pear bread. Unfortunately what arrived was fruit bread , not a fig in sight. When we complained it was taken off the bill. But unfortunately we were then told that we were wrong and that was actually the bread we ordered. Aahh , no. The rest of our group seemed to enjoy breakfast , but alas not us.

Fine dining at it's best. Service, food & surroundings create such a fabulous dining experience. Seafood & dessert is simply the best!

Don't Go!. We went to Zafferano's last night for a special double birthday dinner after years of hearing good reviews about it - we thought we would spoil ourselves knowing it was going to be expensive.<br/>However we were very disappointed. It was VERY expensive with an uninspiring and simple menu. Yes the views are nice but not nice enough to charge like a wounded bull and give terrible service. We were NEVER asked if we wanted drinks and had to wait 45 min between entree and main. The low point of the night was ordering the 90's style 'crepe flambe' which they made at your table. Our waitress made it (not even a chef) and we were shocked to see her pull out 2 premade folded crepes from under the trolley and basically heat them up in the sauce - not worth the $28!!!!!!!<br/>DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

Great Food but pricey. Had a great meal on Sunday. Great spot and really nice food. Seafood platter was really nice, fresh and sweet tasting. They boys ordered rib eye steaks wich were also cooked well (although pretty fatty). Great spot for a sunday afternoon. The only draw-back is the cost of meals as well as the wine price. Really expected a bit more for the prices being charged.

Great place for food and views. Reading some of the negative reviews for Zaffs I wonder if some of these critics misunderstand fine dining restaurants. Zafferano is an exceptional restaurant, expensive yes but that's the price of the view and the exceptional service. Never been disappointed or had a bad meal here. Overseas guests and clients were impressed. Compare Zafferano with similar in Sydney if you think its pricey and pretentious.
Anthony
Overpriced, average food, average service. I can't believe the rap this place receives as one of Perth's premier "silver service" restaurants. It is far from it. While they are happy to charge Perth's most expensive prices, they do not deliver on either food or service.<br/><br/>The food is fairly good although hit-and-miss. You will not receive a dud but you will receive dishes which are nothing special. This may be OK at your average restaurant but at the prices Zafferano charges, it is not acceptable.<br/><br/>I visited Restaurant Amuse in the same week and the differences were huge. The service at Amuse is perfect, the food adventurous and amazing. Every facet of the experience reeks of quality. You will not find this at Zafferano.<br/><br/>I have been here twice and had the same impression both times. This restaurant survives on its location, view and reputation. The prices are ridiculous. For far better value, go to a "real" silver service restaurant such as Amuse, Jackson's or Star Anise.

Have to agree with Rob Briadfields review in today's West. At ling lasts critic who tells it like it is. Under the new mngmnt this restaurant it awful - pretentious pricey and pitifully mediocre food perthites let's start demanding good food at appropriate prices!

I expected this restaurant to just be pretentious. It was but the service was fantastic. First class meal. Amazing view. Despite all I'd heard about this place I was thoroughly impressed!
Life Of A Travel Czar
This place runs like clockwork while having a very chilled relaxed setting (which is need given the backdrop). We had very good service, a fantastic view and fresh simple seafood with a dessert menu to impress. This is wonderful place to take visitors or for that important business dinner.

Talk about a view! We were given a table of six, right in the corner with an uninterrupted view of the river, the city and a bridge. There was next to no breeze that night, but it was still lovely and cool by the riverside. It was simply stunning. The menus were given to us, tap water was provided and we ordered three rounds of entrees. Our table was outdoors, tucked away in the corner and away from the rest of the other dining patrons.

As promised, the Turkish bread was also served with two dips - a pumpkin based dip that had distinctive pumpkin sweetness, and a moderately flavoured beetroot based dip topped with shaved almonds. Both tips were topped up with a layer of extra virgin olive oil.
