Review Clancys Fish Bar City Beach - Perth

Taz Horvath
Love this place for many reasons; personal and otherwise. Always good food; though sometimes pricey. Nice ambience. Staff are top par; and very professional and genuinely friendly. Beautiful views of the beach and ocean and of those that play upon. Good parking, too. Always a pleasure coming back and trying something different and/or my usual, which I have a few.

Love this place, it's location, the food and drink options are great. THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS I'VE HAD IN AGES THANK You to the staff that looked after us, brilliantly, oh, and new to me was the way we ordered the drinks from the table tablet - choose your drink, and it is brought to to table within seconds. Looking forward to going again

Ordered a seafood platter for $95, enough for 2 people. Really fresh seafood, very delicious and had a table with sunset view. Staff were super easygoing too! Would definitely come back again!

Very good service. Have ordered the snapper and chips, chilli mussels is very nice than expected. Plus a glass of wine and a chai latte for total $90. Not cheap but we are happy with the experience.

Loved it. Beautiful day. Ocean views. Great window table. The cheese cob was the bombđŸ’Ș will return.

Beautiful view and atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly. Ordering through the smart tablets at the table worked well. We went for a birthday and they were more than happy for us to bring a cake along and there was no cakage fee.

Came here for dinner by myself whilst on a trip to Perth. Was staying in como and took me about 20mins to drive here. Friendly service, and explained how to order. You order food with the wait staff, and order drinks on the iPad on the tables. Food and drinks came out very quickly. I ordered the snapper special, and whilst it was delicious, the sauce covering most of the dish was cold. That was the only let down. Nice cocktails too! And ladies, be sure to look at the signs in the toilets 💕 Thanks guys.

We were out for a new breakfast experience 😋 at a venue new to us. This Clancy's Fish Bar looked rather appealing which was short lived. While the venue itself was great, lots of patronage being on the beach front with plenty of seating both indoors and out the service seemed somewhat lacking. Asked for tea, as our choice of hot drinks with our breakfast. On receiving this, there seemed to be floating substance in the milk, đŸ„›upon enquiry about this were informed it was only coffee, this was quickly replaced but should not have happened period. The meal, while hot đŸ”„ and substantial, lacked appeal as in, presentation. Butter had to be requested for all servings, no serviettes available at the table. This was a topic for discussion amongst all 4 at breakfast which made the person, who chose the venue, feel rather inadequate for poor choice. Agreement to not return was clearly agreed to unanimously.

Fried Mice, Fish Tacos & wine. Perfect way to spend an afternoon.

A spectacular location with decent enough food but erratic service and long wait times can make dining there a stressful experience.

Great food, great view, top restaurant (y)

I guess ordering chicken at a seafood venue was a mistake... The cashier uttered chicken breast as we went through the bill (at least they took separate payments) but oh... no chicken breast to be seen. Instead, I'd say about 4 tiny pieces of chicken. About the same amount you'd put in half a sandwich being made for an aged care facility. $24 thankyouverymuch. Atrocious.

U guys would have a great night if myself and a coupla mates that know what's goin on got together with Angus Diggs played some JAZZy tunes

It was so beautiful and a great place

Gorgeous place, always love it x

Woefully inadequate customer service. Ordered 4 coffees - 2 Mochas an iced coffee and a chai latte.. Mochas arrived without trouble... The ice coffee magically turned into an ice chocolate and took 20 mins to arrive. The Chai latte, took more than 30 mins to arrive. Unfortunately, no apologies.. Lack of interest in addressing the issue. This place is going down hill without a turn around in site.

Best chips I've had hands down!!

My local great food and atmosphere

Bad experience due to indifference by staff member. Not even a sorry when they forgot our order. Won't be back here for a while. Disappointed at paying good dosh in a nice venue to be treated like sh1t

Ok service. Food average and over priced. ..

i have never been dissapointed with Clancy's. Always good food with good ocean view. <br/><br/>It can get really busy, but if you can find an odd time in the afternoon to order some drinks and snacks it can actually become peaceful. <br/><br/>Staff are always so great and friendly here. <br/><br/>Definitely recommend.

Clancy’s is a busy quirky bar and restaurant right on the beach at City Beach. Family and pet friendly, and quite lively, there are many tables overlooking the beach and ocean. Clancy’s don’t take bookings, but we were seated fairly quickly on a Friday night, at a window table with high seats.

Returned here recently. Take off $10pp for the view and you have good food, well presented and great, friendly staff and service. You can now order your drinks, condiments or call a waiter from tablet devices at each table. Great concept for those of us who go nuts trying to get the attention of wait staff.<br/>..<br/>We checked and yeah, fish is the genuine thing. Not dodgy imported stuff. Great local beers on tap. Deep fried squid, fish burger, mice and fried broccoli were all perfect.<br/>..<br/>We liked the buzzy atmosphere and loved the view. Was worth the $20😊
Chips Before Dips
In all honesty, for food alone I would rate this place 3/5, as essentially it’s a glorified, perhaps slightly overpriced pub feed wrapped in tacky beach-themed packaging. <br/>The great, friendly service we received, along with of course the view, bumped it up to a 4.<br/>I was happy with all of the food. I had the paella, and all the seafood in it was cooked well. <br/>Would recommend for a casual lunch by the beach.

I ordered the fish and when it came out it was dead. very disappointed. staff was good but when I asked my batted fish was no longer moving the started to laugh and mock me I am not happy.
Samantha Davis
This place is a bit over rated and over priced. Can't say I would come here again as the menu is too weird and its costly. The most exciting thing about this venue is the location basically, its the view.
Craig Lampard
Popped in here recently for a lunch meal with the boss. Food is always fresh and tasty, but a bit overpriced for what you get. I suppose your paying for the view, but still enjoy the experience. Good wine selection and service also, but can get busy, so pick your time to visit wisely.

3.5 rating. <br/><br/>came in on a friday afternoon for a late lunch. we were welcomed and had our orders taken by friendly staff. once the food was served however, it was really hard to get anyone’s attention to ask for things (sauce, more drinks etc) despite there being plenty of staff walking around. <br/><br/>food came within a reasonable amount of time of about 20 minutes after placing our orders. the 4 of us shared the seafood platter and a plate of fish and chips. everything was cooked well, but the highlights were the fried squid and the fried fish. <br/><br/>overall it was a very expensive meal ($140 for the food, 2 beers and a soft drink), but it was reasonable with 25% odd with the Entertainment book voucher. the food was just good, but the view is amazing, hence the high prices. worth a try at least once!

Lovely views, very loud inside. Good food, nothing special. Ordered the tacos and blue emperor I think, chips look big but it is half full. Went for location đŸ™ŒđŸ»đŸ›‘

Great food. Lovely service. Amazing view-what’s not to love! <br/>Must be a lover of seafood though, as there are only a couple of dishes that aren’t fish/seafood <br/>Will definitely be going returning to dine again
Tayla Jayne
Had a great experience at Clancy’s. Restaurant was busy as it was the lunch time rush but the food was served promptly and was very tasty. We had the snapper and chips and the fish tacos. No complaints about either meal. View was amazing!

We came here late on a Thursday evening expecting there to be be only a few people around but we were surprised by how busy it was. We were kindly seated on the corner seat by the window which, even by night, gave us stunning seaside views. We ordered the seafood paella and fish and chips. Unfortunately the paella was smothered in parsley which was so unnecessary and the rice had little flavour. In saying this, the seafood was of really high quality and melted in the mouth! There were also massive fans blowing around the place that made us freezing. Very cute decor however!
Sarah
Came here with a group of five for dinner. We had the seafood platter x2 and additional chilling mussels. We were able to walk straight in and ordered our food and drinks. The portion was very generous. Standout was the tiger Prawns and Chilli mussels. Service was very quick and staff very friendly. The view of the ocean is just breathtaking. All of the food was fresh and delicious. After going to applecross branch, I much prefer this city Beach branch for ocean view and casual vibe. I also used my entertainment book voucher and saved $40. Great value for money, just $40 per person including beer and sparking water. Can't wait to go back again - highly recommend for a nice view, delicious food and great service.

My partner and i shared a seafood platter for two, it was fantastic, more than enough food for us.<br/>Grilled fish, loads of chilli mussels and a huge serving of fried calamari, a genrous basket of chips, bbq king prawns, some cold marinated octopus and garden salad side.<br/>The fish was very fresh and tasty, the squid was a touch oily but well seasoned and everything else was above expectation, would get again for sure!
Rob
The food was well cooked, well presented, very tasty and came without any long wait. Our overseas guest commented on the high quality of the garnishes and was tempted to ask for the recipe.. We thoroughly enjoyed dining here. The service by all staff was excellent, cheerful, efficient and nothing was to much trouble for them, most impressed. Plenty of free parking. Would happily dine here again.
Reuben Black
Been here a few times and absolutely love it. The fish and chips, although pricey, is well worth it for the delicious fish, interior and views of this place. The fried squid was also super good with the mayo and kimchi.

A name that many talk about yet I don’t see why. The decor is nice but I reading the menu was hurting my eyes. Maybe some light would help me decide but waiters or service is hard to come by.<br/><br/>Nothing great to be honest... The burger was... a burger. The fish was alright however if I did order a brioche burger, I do expect a brioche bun and not a cheap burger bun. For $24, i would have expected more...

Went to Clancy’s this evening with the family to celebrate my husband’s birthday and wish we hadn’t bothered. After waiting over 45 mins (the place was more than half empty) with two hungry children the food that came was beyond terrible. Feedback given was simply shrugged off by the wait staff. This place has been going down hill for a long time, but we thought we would go to give it another try. So disappointing to have a birthday night ruined.

Good first impression.<br/>Came here on a cold breezy Friday night, easily found a table.<br/>Ordered the platter for two, and wow, it did not disappoint myself or mate.<br/>Highlight was the Shark Bay prawn, large, juicy and grilled to perfection.  So much so my friend recommended to the waitress to include it on menu as separate dish.<br/>The chilli mussels were sublime too with flavour and spice.<br/>The fried calamari again crispy and not rubbery.<br/><br/>Will bring family back to sample more of the menu.  The restaurant is part of a recently redeveloped beachside precinct.  It is right on the beach, thus great views can be had during daytime.
Anna
Location excellent but our visit for lunch this time unfortunately didn’t live up to previous experiences here. Lunch menu was very limited. Hubby ordered the salmon dish and is still foraging through the mountain of salad to find small flakes of salmon. Also quite overpriced. Hope they lift their game as it’s a nice setting and a shame to waste the surrounding views.

Seafood Orecchiette - we ordered 3 and all were too salty :-(<br/>Great musician playing on a Saturday night<br/>Beer was good<br/>Steak was not flash<br/>Mussels didn’t hit the spot
Dpizzy
I ordered quiet a few different items from the menu. One was the seafood platter and had the tastiest king prawns I’ve ever had in my life. The only trouble is that you can’t order them alone. The service was great and awesome atmosphere

We had a lovely night here last night for a birthday gathering. There were 15 of us and we had a long table by the live music, which was great! The service was faultless given how many ppl were there. We had drinks and water all round in no time. They managed our order and had our meals served in great time. Over the sunset we downed a nice bottle or 2 of wine and had some desserts after a good meal. I had fried mice (HOT!) and fried feta. He had the burramundi (nothing to write home about but nice, apparently), she had the seafood paella (not a huge amount of seafood but lots of chorizo) and little missy had the chicken and chips (a bit dry). Waffles (nice but would be good to offer lactose free ice cream), panacotta and kids ice cream (yummy) all round. Reasonable cost for the view and the location. Granny paid $55 for a main, a dessert and a glass of wine. I’d say for an event like ours it was a good choice. As they say “sandy feet and thongs are welcome” so maybe not for your spesh night out!
J-in-Perth
Very friendly staff, nice surroundings & a great view of the sunset over the ocean. We had the paella & it was great. A tad on the expensive side, but I’ll come back

Went to Clancys as a walk in for lunch.<br/>We all had fish and chips 2 battered and 2 grilled.<br/>The food was very nice, decent serves and very tasty.<br/>The salad with the fish dishes were nice too.. nit just a garnish.<br/>The place looks cool.. nice atmosphere.. like a beach shack but more upmarket.<br/>The only downside was that the dishes were a little too expensive for what they were.<br/>Otherwise a very enjoyable experience<br/>

Brilliant location but maybe just good for a juice and coffee. The service on the night we went was pretty abysmal (inattentive, indifferent staff), and we paid $80 for a seafood platter that was mostly deep fried and didn’t have anywhere to put mussel shells. $20 for a scotch and dry that had flat ginger ale and a white wine that seemed to have been open for way too long. It was hilariously bad, but we still had a lovely night with a lovely view.

I headed down to this cafe for breakfast.. I was a bit hungover so I needed something to sort me out. Being a vegetarian, I asked for the breakfast burger without bacon & add tomato/spinach instead. Firstly, the waiter said there was no substitutions, I would need to remove the bacon myself...um...what? Then of course when I explained I was vego, he made it about paying for the extras.. I wasn't in the best shape & really didn't care..yes fine..<br/>With a juice & a coffee..the breakfast was $42 <br/>When "the burger" arrived the waiter reiterated that the chef only did that because we aren't busy..don't ask for it again...uh..righto..<br/>Off he went & left me with "the burger"<br/>So, it seems the chef can't think outside his sides.. It was a burger..he cooked a whole tomato & cooked spinach & piled it inside with the egg etc..wtf? Sorry, in what world do you cook tomato & greens for a burger.. The result was a wet sloppy mess.. Which I couldn't eat..<br/>So, it was an expensive coffee & juice.. <br/>The only thing going for this place is the view. <br/>I have kept coming back despite the consistently crap food for the view. Today was the last day. This place needs a new owner, new chef & new staff.<br/>

I've been here multiple times, I love this place. The location is just perfect! The staff are friendly and attentive. The menu is great.. although I'm upset they've stopped selling the Feta Fingers! They were amazing! The fish tacos are yummy, fried squid is great! A good selection of beverages also. The food comes out quickly. The decor is funky! Such a cool vibe.

Tired menu that needs a total overhaul. Fabulous if you like grease, as in everything double deep fried then dipped in more fat , along with the few strands of salad dripping in mayo this is the restaurant for you. Coffee was cold despite specifically asking for extra hot ( for my dad) and I was served stale bread with my mussels. <br/>Staff were pleasant and helpful and view is spectacular. How about someone having a try of all the dishes and improving the menu and food. One "fresh" dish without grease would be a good start.
Lakmonsta
Redeeming features: black bun, crispy nuts and the jazz trio at NINE A.M. This salmon dish was perfect and filling. Sunday mornings are super busy with big wait times, thought the staff are patient and friendly. Also, if you don't care for the kids/pets vibe, this place might be a challenge.
Mimi
Had lunch here today, and the food was delicious, incredible view, nice atmosphere, friendly staff! Prices quite high, but I guess you pay for the view.
Tiffany Young
I was really disappointed.<br/>Prawn tacos are not a patch on the fish tacos that were served until recently. There is nothing on the menu can be offered as an alternative or is similar to the jalapeño dip which we'd grown to enjoy after previously being addicted to the pĂątĂ© (also removed from the menu) <br/>After being a long term customer of Clancy's I think that the food has deteriorated to such an extent that with all the competition nearby there is no reason to go back â˜č<br/>A real pity given the ambiance.<br/>I keep hoping someone will take charge and turn this business back around.<br/>
Renee Harris
Went for lunch, was seated and never spoken to again. We were waiting to be served for 20 minute but could not get anyone's attention so had no choice but to leave.

Absolutely atrocious service and abysmal fish and chips. Greeted and seated by what must of been the rudest waitress in Perth, never have I encountered someone working in a service industry with such a rude and I don't give a F*** attitude. For a Fish Pub you'd expect the fish and chips to be spot on....think again! We've never had such bland tasting Snapper, all it tasted of was water, there was no flavour whatsoever. I have had better tasting fish and chips from a supermarket freezer. The batter had no flavour, the chips were mediocre and the slaw had no dressing, a rabbit would turn its nose up at it. To make it worse when we did complain, another waitress gave us attitude as well. We will certainly never be returning, you are better off driving 5 minutes up the road to the Canteen at Trigg, paying less than half the price and eating quality fish and chips. To add insult to injury they offered us 1 free dessert (although 3 meals were terrible), no thanks, than gave us a $25 voucher... like we'll ever go back to spend it!
Casey
Lunch time meal with friends. The fish and chips was very dry. It didn't taste very fresh. The clams cooked nicely, but the octopus was quite chewy. Sardines were delicious. Also ordered the duck sliders were okay. Overall food at lunch was quite average at a high cost. Shame about the fish and chips with a view straight from the ocean you'd think it would be so fresh.
Vanessa
Absolutely love this place. Service is always prompt and friendly, and the food delicious. Especially the barramundi. It's a family favourite.
Georgia Palladino
Great view, great location, average food and average service. To be fair, We went on a Saturday morning so it was quite busy. I ordered poached eggs on toast ( super boring but I felt like something plain) I then receive the meal in the photo below, I think the waitress was pretty embarrassed to serve such a small meal. My partner got the salmon with eggs and came out with a salmon steak( as opposed to smoked salmon) and a charcoal brioche bun, it was cooked quite nicely This place is probably better for a coffee/ juice by the beach rather than a sit down brekky.
Mimmi
Great family restaurant delivering consistently great food. Wide selection on menu even for people that aren't fans of seafood. Excellent seating options and very family friendly for early diners! Kitchen is open all day which means you can have a 430/5pm dinner for families!
Jellee Babee
The best thing going for this place is the awesome view straight over City Beach and north and south as far as your eye and your table will let you see. The customer service is very friendly too but unfortunately the average-tasting, overpriced food lets this place down.<br/>Our family of 5 were there for lunch -- barramundi + chips x 2 serves ($28 ea), kids battered fish n chips ($10), kids gluten-free fish n chips (a kid-sized square of grilled barra with a $10 premium thanks very much = $20!) + chilli mussels (with 2 sad pieces of bread + quite a number of closed + empty shells which fell on deaf ears when I complained, $25).<br/>We also ordered dessert -- cookies n cream sandwich ($14), choc Baileys brulee ($14) + 3 serves of kids ice-cream ($6 ea).<br/>The adult serve of barra received the most praise. The remaining mains were mediocre and quite pricey for what they were.<br/>Most disappointing were the desserts... the choc brulee was void of any Baileys flavour and the icecream sandwich was so hard that it slipped across the plate while being cut.<br/>Kids ice-cream was supposed to be served with raspberry coulis but the bright pink sauce that came with it looked suspiciously like strawberry milkshake flavouring (not that it bothered the kids too much).<br/>All up our bill came to $190 including a $15 cocktail and a few softies for the kids. We love Clancy's Dunsborough and thought City Beach would be as yummy. Instead it was average and more expensive than its sister down south.<br/>A nice way to spend a summer's arvo but Hamptons next door is much better value.
Ross
This has fast become my favorite Clancy's in Perth. Great quality food and beer selection with amazing beach views. They are also very good at managing good service even when flat out busy.
Mick Gee
Great place! The veiws are amazing and the service awesome. The food was pretty good, I just thought the squid the wife ordered come come with a salad or side of some sort. Also $24 for fish and chips, I would like to see 2 pieces of fish. Great beer list too.
Elssie
Good grub, chilled atmosphere with magnificent views!<br/><br/>We had dinner here on a Saturday night and given the beach was packed after a 37 degree day, I was worried we'd be waiting hours for a table. But the friendly staff was organized and efficient, and despite a full house when we walked in, got us a table in less than 10min. Just in time to watch the sunset!<br/><br/>Good food given price and most serving sizes were quite large including seafood platter and the paella. The squid ink pasta was a bit small for the guys but definitely ok if ur a smaller eater.
David Riley
Went there Friday night. Really busy and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. Great casual atmosphere & service. Had fish and chips, grilled barra and chips and garden salad. Everything was well done and the grilled fish was done really nicely. Desserts afterwards - kids ice creams and the ice cream sandwich - were ok. Overall a very positive experience and this is a place we'll keep returning to.
Megan M
Initially went to the fishpub for lunch but it was super busy and we were told there was a 30 min wait. Went around to the other side of the building to Clancy's café instead and got a great seat immediately - had the fish tacos which were the same as on the fishpub menu. These were delicious and if you're only after the "small bites" menu then the café is definitely the better option. Despite being classed as a smaller dish, got 3 tacos in the serve which was a solid meal for one. Will go back.

Below average. There are plenty of decent  beach-side breakfast options in Perth. Clancy's isn't one of them. If you don't know how to cook Nasi Goreng, leave it off the menu. But if you don't know how to cook scrambled eggs, please learn.
Cathlin Southern
Great location but pity about the food. I've been twice over past two months. The first time fish n chips was average, but the Fish of The Day was really bad. At $37 you would expect more than a horribly grilled mangrove jack, potato rosti that was so uncooked the potatoe gratings were glassy, and baby tomatoes cut in half and put on top. Awfully presented, awful tasting. I won't be back in a hurry.

Love Clancy's! Came on Sunday morning after it was too windy to sit on the beach and it was buzzing, loved hearing and seeing the live jazz band they had, great surprise! Sat out in the cafe area and ordered two smoothies, a coffee and a breakfast pie. Orders came out quite quickly considering how busy it was and the drinks were really nice, breakfast pie not heated well enough but still enjoyed. Such a great local to pop down to, great that it's dog friendly and always has a fab vibe with friendly staff!
Bottomlesspit
Really vibing Clancy's Citybeach. I had only been to the Fremantle one. Ideal location and ambiance. Beautiful coffee and really friendly service! Would love to come for a burger, chips and cider one arvo.
YumYumMum
Nice brekkie and chilled out customer service. Enjoyed a casual brekkie with good coffee, warmth and a beautiful view. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive without being obtrusive.
Breeze
Seafood platter has everything you want - we normally ask for grilled fish instead of the battered. <br/>Try their dessert platter too!<br/><br/>Reasonable price with good sized meals.
Emily Scott
I'm sorry, but people of Perth that was the worst quality of seafood I've ever eaten. I feel robbed of $100 and I would never go back. The service was great but that didn't make up for the disappointing food (and we ordered their signature platter so if they can't get that right, well). I couldn't get out of there quick enough, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.
Nancy Ballesteros
sorry clacys, love you but you really need to lift your food game! some really average food has been coming out of your kitchen for awhile now. there is lots more local competition. we would hate to loose you! get with it!
Perth Review
I came here for the first time on a Wednesday for Lunch and the service was terrible, the wait staff obviously didn't want to be there. They got angry at customers for mishearing them and there was no clear communication. I ordered the grilled fish and chips. The Fish was good but a small portion, chips were average and salad looked like it was a few days old. The view was nice but that's about it.
Addikted2
Came here for lunch, couldn't book a table so we just walked in waited for about 10 mins then we got our table. Ordered the Fish & Chips was ok. Fish was very flakey. Service was good. Our meal came out in 7 mins! Was very noisy as it was busy. Probably come back to try some other meals though.
Lia
great view, nice service, nice atmosphere. disappointing food (worst pork belly, dry and leathery) Also regular breakfast dishes were not worth it. sad, but we have to stick with coffee and cake.
Joanne Connell
We had a great experience here today. Phoned during the week and told we couldn't book, we arrived with twelve family members this afternoon and in five minutes we had a table.<br/>Food was great, atmosphere relaxed and staff were awesome. Very refreshing to see good old fashion friendly service..... We all sat, relaxed and enjoyed for four hours and no one rushed us and we were waited on the entire time !!!! Thanks for a great day 🌟🌟🌟
Zoodle
Amazing location and service makes this my favorite place to take visitors from out of town. Never fails to impress. Average food but i think they get by because of the views and good service. Chili mussels were very average, not enough flavor and lacking a punch. Calamari rings were good. Fish and chips are just fish and chips really, not far from your regular corner fish shop. Fried mice will blow your brains out....but they are still worth having.
Floki
Not the greatest service to be honest. The food is good, but had no wow factor. If you are able to get a table by the windows with the ocean view, then your dining experience here would be worthwhile.
Anna Mcgregor
Not nice..<br/><br/>Given all the Clancy's restaurants have the same or similar menu, you'd think if you like one the others would be good too. Well NO!<br/><br/>Quality of the food is poor and the place, in particular the toilets, smell and could do with a bloody good clean and refurb.<br/><br/>Staff are so laid back they are oblivious and appear disinterested.<br/><br/>Another place that survives purely due to its location.
Asian Fusion
We love Clancy's for an easy date night dinner, it would also be great for a pub lunch with mates. We order the Fried Mice (stuffed jalapeños) and live to regret it th next day every single time! You've got to try them ;) The grilled Barra is another go-to. Love the relaxed vibe, plenty of craft beers and decent wine list.
Bernard Clark
Im glad they have a new menu, the staff have seem to have a new lease on life too! Wonder of its because of the new neighbours? <br/>Im looking forward to trying it all, yesterday we had a few of the old favourites and a few of the newbies...good stuff. Keep working hard guys...if you're reading this (management) please move or hide the stinky bins away from the front door. Its gross

Came here for Saturday brunch. Siting at the cafe, staring across the blue horizon, gorgeous weather, what more can one ask for.<br/>The green juices $8 ea where nice.<br/>Granola came with freshly cut strawberry and your choice of milk( full cream, almond etc) $14<br/>Grilled chicken sandwich. Fresh bread filled with tomatoes, baby spinach and fresh corn came in at $12<br/>The grilled filled mushroom with goat cheese and grilled asparagus $17.<br/>Food was well presented, very tasty.<br/>Will come again.<br/><br/><br/>

We used to visit here regularly a year or so ago but something happened not sure if new management or chef and it went massively down hill. We decided to return last week for an early dinner and to watch the sunset. We had an awesome waiter who was very helpful and gave us great seats by the window. The food was delicious, I don't eat much seafood but went against my normal choices and got the fish tacos - 1 word to describe them DEVINE! The menu has improved immensely since our last visit and we are sure to return in the future. The service was great all night and when we left our waiter made a point of coming to us as we were leaving and wishing us a good night. Fish Tacos all round!
Bruce
We keep trying City Beach Clancy's (after a few good nights over the years at the Freo one) but we are continually disappointed and had another poor experience there on Sunday night. We went to enjoy the sunset with a few friends over a drink and dinner. Unfortunately from the minute we arrived we encountered terrible service from one of the wait staff, to the point where he was quite rude to one of our friends. After an hour of slow drinks service (and the restaurant was only about half full) and some inappropriate conversations with said staff member, we decided to head next door to Odyssea for some very nice dinner and drinks. <br/><br/>The whole experience at Clancy’s reminded us why we haven't been there for over six months - they have a great setting, but don't back it up with good service or food. Huge disappointment in the Perth beach dining scene. It will be interesting to see how long they are open for with some great competition next door. We won’t be bothering to try it again.
Shirley
Located right on City beach, Clancy's offer an amazing view - especially at the golden hour of the sunset. They have a great selection of drinks and they make a pretty great white wine sangria. However staff aren't as attentive and service is often quiet slow as they section off areas. The food portions are pretty decent for what you pay, and of course the seafood is pretty excellent.
Heidi
I visited clancy's when i was in Perth recently. I had the clancy's big breakfast which is just your standard big breakfast with eggs cooked to Your liking. The view is really nice siting out on the deck, over looks the whole beach but is nice Anita in the shade.

Both the restaurant & cafe are lovely. Friendly service & fresh food. I've eaten a lot here & have tried most of the menu. I like that it changes with the seasons. My favourites over the years has been the breakie wrap, fruit smoothie, squid bites, nachos & chips! A good selection of beers & wines, the only downside is service can be hit & miss on certain days, and some of the dishes are waaaay over priced, but thats typical Perth. Plus that view of the sunsets kinda makes up for it :)

Very average food and service. I was given a voucher for xmas which didn't have an expiry date. We were treated as though it was our fault or we'd somehow stolen it. The manager didn't even apologise after taking 15 minutes to resolve the issue and having to actually ring and confirm my family had brought the voucher from Dunsbrough. Given the food was overpriced and average I will not be returning.

Relaxing beautiful Sunday with amazing views and a cooling sea breeze. Pimms drink is so refreshing and Makers Mark to start with, really enjoying! Warm hospitality with great service. <br/>Fish and chips & Seafood platter was ok nothing outstanding.

A for being on the beach with a relaxed atmosphere. You can grab a coffee here with your wet patched cloting from just having a swim..no sweat totally ok.<br/><br/>Breakfast was good today had the Portobello's , long mac and a berry smoothie. It was perfect, light and non greasy.Fast service too , have been there before during busy lunch period and its definitely the quickest service in history 👍.<br/><br/>One place I'll always have as an option for a relaxing breakfast on the beach.<br/>

Clancys has a lovely family atmosphere with a fantastic view. Nothing pretentious here, great quality food at decent prices for the location. Amazing views of the beach from most tables. Service was exceptional with waitress able to recommend wines that complemented our dishes. <br/>Well worth a visit, the chicken is divine. Wife highly recommends the octopus and children loved the fetta fingers. <br/>Would definitely come again

You have to try the Poached Prawn Salad - Asian style. Really tasty. Really nice staff, nice scenery with a view over the beach and ocean.
Sarah Snoussi
Awesome view but really really bad food. Went there for a Sunday lunch with my hubby, had the fish tacos which were almost tasteless and the maroccan style squid which were extremely oily and we felt sick after the first bite. What a shame! Such a beautiful place and location but unfortunately we won't be back.

Went here for a date night... It's very relaxed family friendly dining. Very busy and noisy, lots of kids. Lovely view of the ocean and the sun setting. Food was nice but overpriced. Fish of the day which I ordered was $36.

The Clancys Cafe next to the fish Pub.<br/>I love the location and the casual atmosphere. <br/>I've had a variety of service from helpful and friendly, to upity and unhelpful. <br/>The place seems to be going from casual rustic, to dirty unkempt. <br/>The coffee is usually good.<br/>The food varies. <br/>This morning received burnt scrambled eggs. This is not typical, but should never have been sent out from the kitchen.
Some Like It Hot
After a late swim it's pretty nice to head to clancy's for fish and chips. Had the beer battered fish, chips and salad. Really decent portion and the fish was nicely battered. The chips were the usual Aussie frozen ones but I expect that now. Service was pretty good too, would come again.

Best coffee & brownie combo in City Beach. Just sitting in the outside area watching the surf & pretty girls parade past, my idea of a perfect break. <br/>Inside in the Fish cafe itself is a bit more cosy, the food is ok without being mind blowing, simple fare like calamari or fish & chips, a bit greasy for mine but friendly staff & a great beer & wine menu, what else is there.

Service is great but the food lets the staff down. Ordered a seafood platter and the camembert. The seafood platter was a disappointment. The chili mussels were dry and didn't come with any sauce, we were pretty sure the sqid was some of the thongs from the beach battered and fried and the prawns were obviously frozen not fresh. The camembert was like a sad little jellyfish in a stingy drizzle of honey. I get that you do pay for the view, however with the already high prices, and the added 10% public holiday surcharge, it was a poor offering. Hopefully the new restaurants opening will get Clancys to lift their game.

Stunning view. Went for lunch two days in a row prior to a swim at the beach. Foodwise - seafood for two platter ($65) was a bit expensive for what you get and fish tacos (3 for $16) lacked flavour (could do with more lime, coriander) and grilled/pan fried fish instead of deep fried (too oily). Probably middle of the range when it comes to food quality/value in our local beachside restaurants.
Jenny Phi
Although the service was great as was the view out over the ocean, the food was shit. $80 for a seafood platter for 2 would be fine had it come with snapper but it doesn't it comes with badly battered and over cooked hoki. The squid was nearly inedible. the 6 prawns like that chewed like rubber. The whole package was just very sub par and sadly typical of Perth seafood.
Murfpotts
Went to Clancys for a nice sea view meal. We got the view but the meal was average. So the 3 of us had plates to share, paella (dry, chewy seafood, pretty tasteless), chilli mussels (no chilli, just s tomato sauce), morrocan squid (greasy, chewy and no way morrocan, tasted like cheap curry powder), fish tacos (3 per serve quite big and tasty) and fried nice (tasty and packed with flavour). So only 2 meals were enjoyed. The service was quick but a don't care attitude, no one asked how our meals were and even when paying still no question if we enjoyed our time there. So overall a beautiful spot looking over the beach, the beers and wine was good. But clancys you need to sort out the food and service.
LOVE PERTH/AUCKLAND FOOD
After returning from a week in the Gold Coast and experiencing some pretty horrendous meals and service the boyfriend and I and our plus one decided to hit Clancy's for some much needed WA sunset and seafood. It did not disappoint! <br/><br/>We arrived to a packed restaurant with a line.... this usually has me tottering straight back out the door again! However we are now pro's at lining up after the Gold Coast debacle and I reckon we could almost qualify as Buddhist Monks. Patience rating a solid 10. <br/>I'm glad we did as a lovely waitperson greeted us with a smile, took our name's and we happily joined another line to order a drink to have in the waiting area. The next waitperson was clearly a little stressed and fumbling probably due to my order of a Clancy's Negroni- not the usual order of a beer or wine I'm guessing. She pulled it off with a smile after i gave her a quick reassuring, its ok, take your your time look- i'm a nice one!<br/><br/>We took our seats and our drinks arrived quickly, Matzo's Ginger Beer, Little Creatures Pale Ale (on tap!) and my Clancy's Negroni.... super strong- excellent.<br/><br/>Not long after we scored a sweet little table for three overlooking City Beach to watch the epic WA sunset unfold.  We ordered Salmon Ceviche, Morrocan spiced Calamari and Beef Tataki to share for Entree.<br/><br/>Salmon ceviche was beautiful, could have done with a little more acidity and more on the plate but I was happy considering how much I love Ceviche. The Beef Tataki flavours were excellent,  could have been more rare though. The squid was absolutely perfect! So fresh and perfectly cooked- tasted like the squid we were catching up north out of Coral Bay and cooking ourselves- could not fault it.<br/><br/>For mains our friend had the Sirloin, I had the Pork Belly with Octopus and the boyfriend had the Jamaican jerk spiced chicken. Apart from the jus on the sirloin being a bit salty and a bit too reduced, everything was divine! So fresh and delicious. A few more drinks and one sunset later and we left as very happy customers!<br/><br/>Great casual atmosphere, lovely friendly staff, beautiful view! <br/>Cheers Clancy's!
Tom Burns
Don't order the seafood platter. Overpriced ($75!) with small, dry, portions. <br/><br/>The view is good, and the wait staff were friendly but the food was horrible. Ordered the seafood platter and asked for grilled fish (an extra $10). The fish was dry and overcooked, the squid was deep-fried and fatty, prawns were tasteless. Could get better tasting seafood at the local fish & chip shop for about $50 cheaper. Won't be going back.
Jocelyn
Although I can't complain about the taste of the food, charging for tomato sauce in a restaurant just seems rude . the pricing needs to be revised here as definitely a put off ripping people off.
Leigh D Travers
Had a Late Friday lunch but left disappointed. Was actually the second time this week we had clancys after a fantastic meal down in dunsborough during the week. The fish and chips (both battered and grilled) was terrible and the salad so old it was inedible. The only saving grace was the always tasty fried mice. Recommend for drinks and tapas, not for a main meal here.
Pltrichardt
Stunning view.Promptly met at the door. Waiter took drinks order and starter. Starter arrived before wine (less .5) . Good starter- Camembert infused with rosemary.  Main course - fish and chips and Barramundi. Cooked to perfection. Batter on fish was perfect and not oily.Good portions. Waiter was attentive and understood the menu. Wine list was extensive, but a bit pricey.  Menu was good value.  We have found a little place at the beach.
Matt
Made a visit for dinner - it's a great location right on City Beach. Our table of six was served meals less than 10 minutes after ordering, pretty good fish and chips all round. The bar has a good range of drinks - well, we are into the summer months!

I only gave this a 1 because my husband said the coffee was good. We came for breakfast, I ordered a kids size buttermilk pancakes for our toddler and I ordered the pancakes for myself and my husband ordered the breakfast (bacon & eggs etc). The kids pancakes came and they looked amazing, but as I started to cut it up I soon realised it was hard as a rock, quite literally, not even an exaggeration. I asked the waitress why they were so hard, she informed me that they were reheated....! I asked why on earth you would reheat pancakes to serve in a restaurant for breakfast, she said it was common practice... I worked in the hospitality for 10 years, never, ever have I seen that degree of "prep". I asked if I could get some fresh ones, not possible... I cancelled my order of pancakes but we waited for my husbands breakfast. It also looked delicious when it arrived. Unfortunately the only thing not reheated was the toast and the eggs. The bacon was so hard as it had been reheated that the little piece I tried got stuck in my throat. Even my iced coffee was gross cause it had no ice in it, just a tiny blob of ice cream, so it was lukewarm. In fairness to them, the manager was very apologetic and wiped the bill but considering we only had the coffees I think that's pretty fair. All in All, a very disappointing experience. Breakfast isn't that difficult, if you are going to maintain a simple menu then the execution should be exceptional - The kitchen should have enough pride to do it well.
Maria
Good fish and chips if you're hankering for a nice view and choices of beer. Prompt service, seated soon after we arrived and food was out in 10 minutes. Very noisy while the restaurant was full.<br/>Pleasant experience overall.

I came here after a beach session and enjoyed it. The Hulk (apple, lemon and kale) juice was super refreshing and delicious! I had the seafood platter for one. It was not bad. I liked it however chilli mussels weren't very chilli or had much flavour. The salt and pepper calamari was good flavour but I felt like i was going to choke a few times on the finely fried parts. Restaurant with a good view :)
Tash
love it here! the food is consistently good and i love the stowford press cider. the seafood platter, the feta fingers, the fish tacos, the squid rings, the asian beef are all among my favourite things there to eat...  in general the staff are friendly for a chilled beach pub, and the view is gorgeous - i keep coming back again and again! :) thanks guys!
Perth Casual Diner
Visited the restaurant with three friends about 5 weeks ago and sat inside.  Trying to write an objective review but we found it to be very average...if not a little 'less so".  The steak came out first without any cutlery, napkins, and we waited a while for the other meals.  By the time the other meals came the steak was cold and was found to be not as ordered so that went back to the kitchen and came back very well done... and again not as was ordered.  The waitress dropped some cutlery and then did her shoe lace up while she picked it up and popped the cutlery on the table (after handling her shoes).  When we asked for more napkins... the waitress brought back a stack about 5 inches high... we felt by this stage we were getting a bit of "attitude".  I have had the paella at other Clancy venues and found it to be pretty good.  This night it was extremely salty.  All in all a bit of a pity as have been before to the City Beach venue and really liked the ambience, even though food is always a little average.  But the food this time and the waitress contributed to an average experience.  Must say other wait staff were very friendly and helpful..... just not the girl assigned to our area.
Whos Got Time To Cook
Family lunch for a big group... Get in early (or late) for a table as they don't take bookings. Service was reasonably fast. Seafood platters are a great option to share with plenty of food- only complaint was that mussels and oysters were a bit cold, and music a bit loud to talk across the table.

I have never written a review before but I feel like I have to now because of the outstanding service me and my friends received today. I feel bad for forgetting to tip at the end because things got hectic with us sorting out tickets for an event. I'll be sure to revisit and find the same sweet waitress with the big glasses and tip her. <br/><br/>Our friend was leaving forever interstate and we decided to randomly meet up at the fish bar on our last day with him. Me and one of the guys spontaneously decided to ask the waitress if they could do something sweet for him (covertly). I half expected her to say there isn't much they can do since it's not like it's his birthday and farewells are unusual to have restaurants do things for. But she was so sweet and made sure she knew which friend was the right one and said she will make sure he feels very special. A dessert rocks up (not the chocolate brûlée he ordered, but an apple crumble one with cotton floss on it) and she hilariously does a little entrance for him making him feel extremely special and giving us all a good laugh.<br/>He really wanted the choc brûlée and I'm not sure how we got a different dessert. It ended up being on the house which was an unexpected plus. I personally loved all their desserts. However none of us could finish the apple crumble as we were so full and wanted to save space in our stomachs for the choc brûlée. I look forward to returning. From start to finish the service was the highlight and the food and drinks were so nice too. The service just kept making everything better so I'm not sure if I'm being biased :P thank you guys for an unexpectedly spectacular day! You have won over a new fan.

Went in for a drink and a bowl of chips. The drinks arrived quickly but our food order had been forgotten. It took almost an hour to get the attention of the floor staff but they eventually brought us the food free of charge.

Myself and a few work colleagues had a very enjoyable 'work dinner' here tonight. The food was great and the service was excellent. A special shoutout to our very patient waitress (sorry, I didn't catch your name if you read this) who really got in on our fried mice joke after we took what seemed like forever to order. It made for a lot of laughs and I have no doubts that our two bosses from overseas will remember tonight's experience well. Keep up the great work, we'll be back!

Drove into City Beach after spending a day at Caversham Park with wife & toddler and felt really pleasant with the ambiance inside. Although finding a parking spot was difficult due to the Friday evening rush still our order was served quite promptly. Being vegetarians also did not pose much of a problem and we had a delicious veggie kabab (can't remember the name) along with cranberry juice!<br/><br/>Spent sometime outside sitting in the green watching the sunset bringing an end to a wonderful evening.

The weather was simply stunning so we decided to spend our afternoon at City Beach to enjoy the sunshine, incredible views and the best beach bar- Clancy’s Fish Bar. Clancy’s is located right on the beach front with the most amazing panoramic views of City Beach. We were seated at a tall, round bar bench so even though we were right at the front, we had a perfect view of the sun, sand and surf. Although the outside view is spectacular, the interior is equally incredible. Our drink orders were taken almost instantly so that we could enjoy a crisp and cold wine/beer while we were deciding on what to eat. The menu was extensive and everything sounded delicious. I watched a few orders come out prior to placing my order and everything looked impressive, so I wasn’t too worried about my choice. Our friends ordered the grilled fish and chips and the fish tacos for their main, the American also chose the battered fish tacos which came served on a soft tortilla, tomato, corn & coriander salsa, chipotle, lime and sour cream. Of course, I couldn’t decide! I was torn between the  warm octopus salad and poached lime chicken salad. I asked the waiter for his recommendation and he straight away suggested the lime poached chicken salad which was tossed with soba noodles, peanuts, tatsoi, shoots, snow peas with a dressing of ginger and soy sauce. The boys decided to share a few entrees also. They chose the baked corn, jalapeño & cheese dip served with corn chips and the Clancy’s specialty – Fried Mice, which was panko crumbed jalapeños served with salsa and sour cream. The meals came out in a timely fashion, all looking equally delicious. The portions were massive- the $15 fish tacos came as a trio and my salad bowl was as big as a serving dish! Eve

Great Lunch. We had a great today at Clancy's today. The service timing was good and the girl who served us was very friendly. When she misheard an order and brought out a paella she apologised quickly and offered it as free meal. We had two grilled barramundi, kids fish and chips and seafood platter for one. The food was delicious and we all left very happy!

Fish burger complaint. I find the staff very pleasant and friendly but the fish burger that I got was very bland and it was not worth $12 I paid for

OMG! What on earth has happen! The place used to be great a<br/>Not tonight it was terrible. Food was cold, no flavour and way over priced! The best thing was the Matso ginger beer!

Dont waste your time here - Rude, stuck-up and no Custumer Service.. After a lovely morning at the beach, fish & chips seemed the perfect way to round it out. This was not to be. After queuing for 20min, (and not greeted by any of the grumpy staff!), we get told there are no fresh fruit juices and then when we wanted to place the food order they would not take it as it was before 12pm, Yes it was 11:55am, but no they said I had to come back and re-queue again. When I expressed my issue with this, I was told "Can't you see we're still busy with breakfast!?" <br/><br/>I don't know what the staff do between breakfast orders closing at 11:30am and lunch orders opening at 12pm. Maybe they are practicing being rude and stuck-up.<br/><br/>We'll suffice to say we left this excuse for customer service and went to Salt On The Beach, Fremantle. Now there's a place worth going to!<br/><br/>Clancy's you need to get back to the basics of customer service and don't expect customers to spend money with you just because you're in a prime location. Perth is too small.<br/><br/>Good Luck.

So Disappointed. Friends of ours from the UK wanted to treat us with a wine and dine meal after showing them a great time in Perth.<br/>Chose Clancy' because of the location and having great meals there in the past, but I was so embarrassed with what came out.<br/>Could not complain because I was not paying and did not want to make the evening worse.<br/>I’ll have second thoughts ever going again.<br/>Again very disappointed.
Tess
Waited 20 minutes for 2 take away coffees this morning. The staff were not making coffees in order and there was a massive pile up on the take away orders. This happened on a weekday. I will not be visiting clancys again
Foodie
Terrible Service. 1 minute after 11.30 a.m., placed my breakfast order - told, "sorry, breakfast closes at 11.30!!" It was a quiet day, overcast and kitchen certainly not under any pressure. Ordered 2 coffees and waited for 15 minutes. Won't go there again!!

Very good. This place was suggested to me by my work mate. He had previously been here. I was quite keen on it as it is fairly close to my place and an old school mate, who we were catching up with, was back in town and wanted somewhere on the coast.<br/>It was a Tuesday night and the place was fairly busy, which took me by surprise. We did get a table straight away however and were asked for drinks. We were asked not too long after if we were ready to order but being old school mates, we had been catching up and hadn't even looked at the menu.<br/>Once we decided, we got the attention of a waitperson and ordered. The meals came out fairly quickly. The size of the mains took me by surprise. I had ordered fried mice, as I love jalapeños but the serving of the fish and chips was large. If I had ordered that on its own I would have been right but with the fried mice, I struggled towards the end of my main. The fish was very good. I'm very fussy when it comes to fish but I'm familiar with the NZ fish they use, Hoki.<br/>My friends all finished their meals and mentioned how good they were too.<br/>Good casual atmosphere, as we all commented on that a number times.<br/>Pricing I felt was pretty good. Mine came to a bit over $40 for a bourbon, fried mice entree and fish and chips main. Everyone else's was less than mine and in the mid $30s ranged.<br/>Will certainly be a place we return to.
Hungry
Hmmm..... OK - like many, I had an overseas visitor that wanted lunch down by the beach = Clancy's, City Beach.<br/><br/>We chose the cafe as we wanted something light - 2 beef sandwiches, a serve of chips, glass wine, beer. OK = $48.50.<br/><br/>The sandwiches came - they were small, but the beef was very tough - very difficult unless you have razor teeth. Chips = chips.<br/>Wine - half empty glass of house red. Beer - the smallest can I've ever seen.<br/><br/>Look - the company was great, but the food totally forgettable. It wasn't till later that I thought about the price that i'd paid.... and then I thought some more.<br/><br/>I'm sorry - but the owners of places like this need to get the message - this is totally unacceptable and I recommend that you DO NOT go until better food is served or the prices are adjusted accordingly.<br/><br/>I would recommend you try Grill'd at Scarborough.
Chocolatepandapants
Came to eat dinner but went home hungry.. As a first time visitor, there were only THREE things I was happy about with this place: 1) View/Scenery 2) Staff and 3) Drinks<br/><br/>If you're here for food or to eat your fill, I suggest hungry jacks for their $4.95 stunner meals instead. (Not sarcastic) Cos that's exactly where we went to after having our 'dinner' at Clancys city beach. <br/><br/>I ordered a Tiger Prawn linguine, and it came out to be a disappointingly tiny entrée sized pasta dish for $27; despite it being on the 'mains' menu. I seriously suggest they create an entree category and put everything on their 'menu' in there - or put in a disclaimer about their portion sizes (seeing as they already have an entire paragraph down on the menu written about their eco-friendly sources of seafood etc). My tiger prawns, although quite a fair bit of 6-7 pieces, were nothing bigger than the size of a curled index finger. <br/><br/>Husband had a fish taco, heard from friends those were really good. Ok so we ordered and I'll describe it as best: 3 supermarket-sized tacos came out, each with one piece of supermarket frozen battered fish on it and some shredded coleslaw/salsa for accompaniment. This was I think $22? <br/><br/>Both our dishes tasted good. Not magically great, just good. All was washed down with a $4 glass of lemonade and LLB. Can't fault their postmix lemonade and LLB, thus +1point for that. Basically if you're here for a GREAT FOOD EXPERIENCE, IT DOESN'T EXIST. If you're here to get some drinks and have a snack, its OK for the rich, but for the price you pay you could be better off taking your own homemade sandwich and carefully hidden vodkamix to the same beach (with the same view) to sit and chill out.<br/><br/>Overall it came nothing close to feeling like we had a dinner. Felt more along the lines of caught-in-traffic hunger and only a servo-chickoroll in the vicinity could temporarily spare the discomfort. We were disappointed, mainly because we were hungry and the portions were tiny. The amazing sunset view and music made us feel 3% better about the experience. And the staff were efficient, like what every staff in a functioning restaurant should be.<br/><br/>Moral of the story: ALWAYS CHECK URBANSPOON REVIEWS FIRST BEFORE GOING TO A PLACE ON GOOD FAITH.
Carolinemccrone
No longer gluten free friendly for kids. Disappointed that the chef is now refusing to do kids size grilled fish and chips. They always used to do this for my coeliac daughter. We will go elsewhere in future.
Natasha
New favourite. Cannot believe I haven't been here before! The fish tacos and corn dip were the highlight for me, full of texture and flavour. Fresh oysters but really small. <br/><br/>They also make a mean Bloody Mary!
Cham
The worst seafood plater ever. Dry squids rings & worst chilli mussel.
Mcnbrenda
Thanks. Friend and I had the Fish Tacos followed by Bread and Butter Pudding to share. Food was great, as was service. My Pimms No.1 drink was lovely. Will go back.

Order duck dish ($30) not filling. Need to order bread & other side dishes ... (They don't have garlic bread, but have sliced bread.)<br/>Good sunset view :)

Disappointingly rubbish.. This joint USED to be great. A little on the pricey side, but the food was good, the ambiance was nice, and the view fantastic.<br/><br/>NOW, its just a place with a view. The Food is absolutely terrible. I mean, if I was buying it form a roadhouse in the middle of the nullabor, I wouldn't think anything of it, but this place now has a great view, and thats it. <br/><br/>How on earth a restaurant with a CHEF out the back, can stuff up battered fish is beyond me, but they did it. Add to that its New Zealand Hoki, not even Australian Flake (ether that or its reeeeaaaalllly cheap rubbish fish from a reeeaaally dodgy supplier), and they'll charge you $22 for it when you can get it at the fish and chip shop down the road for $14, and the 15yr old kid working out the back there probably won't stuff it up as badly!!!!!<br/><br/>Overcooking Squid is a basic error that even the most amateur cooks can learn not to make, but not this joint! In the hope that you won't notice because of the view (!), the Moroccan squid had the texture of potato, it was THAT overcooked. Such a shame to because their 'Bucket of Squid' once upon a time was what I loved from here. <br/><br/>To add insult to injury, when paying and being asked how was everything, we were honest, said it wasn't good enough, and they'd taken a huge dive in quality, EVEN THE WAITRESS taking our payment said 'yes sometimes I find the Squid a bit iffy to'.... OH WELL, GREAT, keep on dishing that rubbish out then!!!<br/><br/>Seriously seriously seriously... there are better places with beach views in Perth than this. AVOID!

Bad service, worse food. It took 15 minutes to be seated at a table that we saw was vacant when we walked into the restaurant. It took a further 30 minutes for our $50 bottle of wine to arrive at our table, which was just dumped on the table, without the waiter verifying the wine was correct nor was it poured for us. We were informed they had run out of oysters. We ordered a seafood platter to share as a starter, we were not informed when we ordered it that they had run out of the octopus salad and scallops. It was only when we enquired that we were told we had been given an extra prawn skewer as compensation for the missing items. What did come out of the kitchen was barely palatable. The chips were obviously fresh from standing in the Bain Marie for a few hours, the mussels were miserly, the fish mostly batter. We decided after the rude service and crappy food to leave the venue without ordering mains. The wine was great though.

Dry Overcooked Fish. Last night I took my wife out for dinner to Clancy's Fish Bar in City Beach. For entre we ordered a Share Plate of Squid in batter ($15), which was overcooked, but saved by the sauce. For mains we both decided to have the special, which was Mackerel and a Thai salad ($36 each) along with a small bucket of chips ($10). The Mackerel was dry and overcooked. At one point my wife started choking and I had to thump her on the back. With our bottle of red wine ($39), the bill came to $136, which was very expensive for a terrible meal. Only good thing about the night was the company and the view. Certainly won’t be going to Clancy’s again.

Ordered: scallops the size of a 10 cent piece with what looked like salsa verde from a tube bought at a supermarket.$3 each.( the shells looked as though they had been used before)<br/>oysters: ok .can order else where freshley shucked on ice not salt for $3 not $4<br/>fried mice ok chilli not crisp but soggy. which perhaps indicates frozen for too long or fried too many times.<br/> and finally: fish and chips discracefull!!! upon ordering thay were on the table within 2-3 minutes,( maybe someone elses cancelled order.??? )the chips were so over fried they were full of air with slight traces of potatoe. ( baloon chips could be a new trend for the industry w.t.f.) the fish was so mushy and tasteless. a bit strange considering they are called a fish bar.....(make a little bit more effort and keep it fresh)..... as for the side salad it looked like it came off someones plate from the day before.<br/>when we were asked about the food and expressed our dissapointment, we were offerered a free tea or coffee .we did not accept the offer and we paid full price . you should never have to offer your patrons compensation. ( just get it right and be consistent)<br/><br/>on a good note the service and wine were very good. perhaps the owner should try dining there occasionally.<br/>what a shame " such a prime spot to own a resturant "

Terrible.. Went in April, was amazing. Went again last month and everything was apalling! Serving size was horrendously small, took forever to come out and staff didn't do much. Too expensive for bad service. Not coming back again.

Lack of service and poor food. The only thing going for this place is it's beachside location.<br/><br/>For the price we paid for a paella, seafood platter and chilli mussels, I would have expected a more generous serve that was cooked well.<br/><br/>The flavours were nice but the seafood was cooked to well done. To be honest, I would say it was cooked beyond well done.<br/><br/>If you enjoy succulent seafood, then don't dine here.<br/><br/>If you enjoy having to get up to ask for service, then come dine here.
Shane
Terrible - how do restaurants like this stay open?. You are paying for nothing but the views here. Some of the worst fish and chips we have had in Perth from memory. $20+ for two very small pieces of greasy fish and couple of dozen mostly burnt chips doesn't really cut it in WA any more. Topped off by easily the worst cappuccino I have ever had in Australia. Do yourselves a favour and BYO picnic and sit on the lawn instead - same views but with much better food.

Very Slow Service. Won't be going back here in a hurry. Went for brekky and the service was pathetic. We waited 20 mins, then my partner's coffee came and they asked what kind of tea I wanted as they hadn't written it down. We waited a further 15 mins and still no sign of our meals. I went up and enquired and they resubmitted the order and we finally got our breakfasts (which were not complicated ones and only required plating up really as they would have been pre-prepared ingredients) 50 mins after ordering. On the upside the food was okay, although not particularly large portion sizes, and they were apologetic and refunded the food part of our meal without us asking. They were very, very busy, and the waiting staff seemed to be quite hopeless at finding who to serve meals to - wandering around looking for the right table number signs for ages. Perhaps they need a buzzer/come-get-your-meal system because the take-a-number-sit-anywhere system didn't seem to work very well due to the packed number of people in the place. Overall the food was quite nice but not spectacular, but the service was so slow and disorganised that I won't go back there for a sit-down meal again.

Extra charge for ketchup and disgusting Aioli????. After spending 14.50 for a pint and a bill of 128 bucks to be charged 30 cent each for a tiny portion of ketchup and aioli is disgraceful !!!!! Will not be back out of principle unless this madness is put to an end ! Plus we never even used the aioli because it had a skin on like it was sitting out for hours ! Disgusting !

Such potential!. For reasons of convenience a group meet here monthly. It has a wonderful aspect but on Saturday yet again it proved that a view is not all. Weak barely warm coffee, some coffees not deliverd even after multiple requests and cold hot food. To cap it all off totally indifferent staff.

Don't bother. This place has so much potential - a cool vibe, spectacular location, but it's largely wasted with terrible food. I've been a few times, entirely at the behest of others, and not once have I had a passable meal. The most recent was their 'seafood chowder' - aka slimy old seafood in what could only be tinned vegetable soup. It was thickened with cornflour to the extent that it was a nauseating gluggy. I managed two spoonfuls and no more. Nearly $30 wasted on stale seafood and tinned veggie soup. Not happy jan.

Weak tea and coffee. Disappointed the tea cam in a pot and was so weak even after leaviNg for 5 minutes, the long black coffee had no crema and no flavour. Waitress wandered around lethargically to every table before spotting ours.

Disgraceful Fritters. Went for breakfast this morning. My favourite meal of the day! Not today though. I have been here before and have had ok meals and service but always have had to wait a long time in line. That's just the beginning. I sat down and within 5 or so minutes I had my coffee (which is very quick and efficient) but then less than another 5 minutes my breakfast arrived. Why is that a problem? I ordered leek and rissoni fritters with hot smoked salmon and a few other bits. I took one look and realised, not only was the salmon from a tin (not even the nice sliced stuff) but it was cold. I then proceeded to try my fritters which were tiny and only two on the plate. They were only just warm let a lone hot. I quickly informed the waitress who took it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later she returned to say that the salmon was supposed to be cold (even though the menu said hot) and that the fritters were meant to be like warm?! No. Who on earth serves cold/just warm fritters?! I took it back anyway only to take a bite and spit it straight out. I never spit out food. EVER. It was dry, cold and inedible. They had obviously been sitting there for a while probably under a heat lamp or not at all. For $18 it was the biggest rip off. I could make better FRESH fritters at home and I am not chef. Anyway, another waitress (different from the previous one) took it back once again and kindly gave my money back. She replaced my meal with the granola. All in all the service from this lady was fantastic and they did well in offering me a free breakfast. I will definitely be eating somewhere else next time.

Save your money. Probably the worse meal I have ever eaten has prompted me to write my first review on urban spoon. The chicken was awful. It was chicken wrapped around stuffing rather than chicken with stuffing and there was at least a full large onion on the plate. It didn't taste quite right and I needed to eat something after leaving the restaurant to get rid of the taste in my mouth. Service was good but don't get staff to ask how the meal was if they don't know what to do when you tell the truth. Great view stick to the drinks!

Clancys cafe- Crap service. Waited 20 min in the line for coffee. Got 2 from the front to be told the till had stopped working and they were closing in 5 mins so will have to close early. Here's a tip for you. If that happens in your business - offer free coffee. I've left with a bad taste in my mouth, and it wasn't from the coffee I'm not drinking .....

Great take away fish menu. Menu has a different take on fish and chip take away, really tasty, salmon to die for, friendly staff, and what a location!!ill be back.

20 min wait for a weak and cold coffee. I know that this place is busy on weekends, but this is the only place for a take away coffee within walking distance for me. I thought I will try it again last Saturday morning and had to wait 20 min for my take away coffee which cost me 5$ was weak and cold and I have ordered a skinny FW and I am not even sure if it actually was the skinny version.<br/>Defiantly need a good cafe for the locals in City Beach!
Ignaczuk88
Grrr wating ages. I just can not believe. I bough a coffee 10 min ago there. I understand its saturday arvo 3.30pm. I was wating nearly 10 min for small fw . Barista was making 3 different coffees before me and he didnt care much to do it fast. All slowly . Mate if i have a time i would have a coffee for take away. I will took a table and wait for ma coffee.

Worst Service Ever. Relaxed and friendly beach-side cafe is a great idea but it doesn't mean that poor service is acceptable. For gods sake Clancy's train your staff and have some respect for your paying customers. We deserve better. My friends and I are the stereotypical local customers with enough wit to know that if the service is great we will tip you and we are willing to spend the money where your profits are. Why would we go back? I can see the view on the beach for free, and I can take my own lunch and bottle of wine down to the beachside parks for free. Smarten up your act Clancy's - you will soon have a bit of competition.
Paulmunro78
Must do brekkie. This is the place for brekkie and coffee on Sat or Sun. Million dollar views, sit outside for a laid back start to the day. Head down to the beach for a swim after. Coffee always hits the mark. Get there early or you will be waiting in line for a while.

Fabulous location and views not hugely fantastic food. Hit and miss with us, we've had some good meals and some disappointing. My main disappointment is that the fish and chips isn't served with any salad or veg when we visited? Just a piece of fried fish and chips on a plate...I expected something a bit more fancy for an expensive reputable restaurant.<br/><br/>Take your bathers for the kids if you're planning an early dinner with the family :-) The restaurant is a stones throw away from a gorgeous family friendly beach.

Fabulous view and location pity about the taste and price of the food - I expect a chowder to be creamy not watery

Location. Went for lunch midweek. Had a great seat by the window. The food was okay, I ordered what I thought was a "lunch" salad after discussing it with the waiter, but it turned out to be a side salad! Will go back again because of the location.

Bad attitude. The managements continued bad attitude is really off putting. The cafe closes mid-afternoon right about when you'd want tea and cake!<br/>Te restaurant doesn't have tea and cake.<br/>And there's no way to access the playground from the restaurant when the cafe is closed- and management doesn't care because it would interfere with their service if the door was open.<br/>Why do we have to put up with this bad attitude and kid un-friendly nonsense!

I have wanted to rant about this place for ages.... Two years ago we came here for my sister's birthday. We were hounded by about three different staff members if we wanted to order drinks - all with in the time space of about 10 minutes. (don't they have set areas?)<br/> I think we almost purposely didn't order drinks from all the hounding. After receiving our meals, my sister said her dish was very salty, and sent it back to the kitchen. By the time the waiter came back, we had all finished our meals. They asked if she would like something else, but she said no, because we had all finished. When we went to pay, they still charged us for the meal that was sent back. The manager said he was still going to charge us because she had started the meal and didn't want a replacement. He said he and some of the other staff tried the meal and didn't find it salty..... I was thinking if they all tried the meal then they should have paid for it! After arguing with the manger he 'generously' said he would give her the meal for 1/2 price. Terrible! <br/><br/>Other times have been okay, like other reviewers have said, great view, great interior, but the food and service is average. Would not hurry back.

Quick and easy. We decided to drop past in the middle of a storm for Sunday lunch expecting it to be quiet... It was packed but we were told it would only be a short wait and it was. We kept the order simple and stuck to fish and chips and mussels which arrived quickly only a few minutes after the drinks. On such a busy day we managed to get a table on the window which was perfect for watching the storm roll past. The kids were happy with the vanilla choc chip icecream. We will probably be back simply because it was so quick and easy.

Sensational location, awsome view, good service, great décor, Food COLD,

Winter wonderland. My wife and I enjoy watching stormy weather and Clancys is the perfect location with huge waves rolling fast and furious into the beach. Who needs TV when the beauty of mother nature is at our door step!!!!! Mulled wine accompanied by tasty treats equals a Perfect afternoon!

About time. Refreshing changes at City Beach. Giving our beloved Clancy's another go we discovered that, gone is the expensive menu of old and now back is the food that Clancy's team do sooo well. We sampled the baked jalapeno dip, chicken parfait and chorizo/olive tasting plate which had the most amazing stuffed artichoke hearts. We also agreed the staff seemed more enthusiastic, upbeat and thank god customer focused. Has there been a change in management??? We will be back very soon.

NOT A 2ND TIME. We tried breakfast recently which was a real disappointment. Pre ccoked & microwaved before hand, it definitely wasn't cooked fresh. Its proper restaurant sit down prices,....at fish & chip shop quality. We had the fish of the day which was small serves & over cooked which for $36 was a rip off !. The scallops, i think where sliced in 2, & would be lucky to be the size of a 20c piece . Go for a drink, enjoy the view,...as without it, would be in trouble.Forget the food ! Hopefully when the venue next door opens up & takes a lot of their business, maybe then it will be forced to lift their standard !<br/><br/><br/>-----15 Jun, 2014-----<br/><br/>$46 for 2 COLD "PRE COOKED" big breakfasts, PLUS you CANT' have your tea & coffee delivered with yr meal ?. Know how you can do 2 full breakfasts in under 10 mins,......PRE COOK IT ALL that's how.<br/><br/>Everything bar a few slices of bacon in my big breakfast was just about cold, & obliviously cooked "hours ago". Asked if we could have our tea delivered with the meal & was told, "maybe we cant control it". After asking twice & just about finished our breakfast,...out it came. Plus, ive never seen EGG YOLKS as YELLOW as these,..? I buy & eat FREE RANGE eggs all the time & the yolks are always ORANGE,..maybe the "clancy's group" get a bulk discount for buying palates of these CAGE EGGS ?, seriously have a look <br/><br/>Major let down & obviously without the location,.....would be in serious trouble & or some competition nearby !!!

Came for lunch at our favourite spot. As always enjoyed the view but very disappointed in food and service.<br/>No water appeared at our table despite numerous requests. Plates weren't cleared and coffee not offered. The "salad" on the barramundi chips and salad was barely a garnish.

Fab service. I went there for a weekday lunch and the place had a lovely vibe. We managed to get a seat quickly which was great. Service was fantastic. Attentive without being intrusive. Food was fresh and tasty will be back soon.

Love it......... We have been here about 8 times now....primarily for the beautiful view, funky decor, and good food and drinks. But I read a few of the negative reviews and I have to say... those people are either REALLY fussy, or were having a bad day!. We have always had GREAT food, GREAT staff and will go back again as soon as we can. We have taken overseas friends here and they loved it as well! Must try the Fried Mice after another comment. Fantastic they do "Grandparents" serves of fish and chips....we can team with something else. Only criticism...we are not all rich! Kudos!

Gone to the birds. When they first reopened a few years ago Clancy's CB had the recipe for success however they seemed to have lost the plot with the menu in recent times and are trying to be far too fancy for themselves. The final straw for me was when I ordered fish presuming that it would come out with chips and salad as in previous visits however it arrived all it own with nothing to accompany it. When asked when to expect the rest of the meal I was told that you need to select your "protein" and then order the sides separately. I pointed out that this would have been a useful piece of information when we first ordered as it was never mentioned. The concept of ordering your protein may work well if your eating at Rockpool however Rockpool they aint! I may drop back in a few months to see if sanity prevails and they change the menu.

Very disappointing. The decore is very trendy and would be a great place to have a drink and watch the view. Yet we basically had to hound the staff to serve us ,drinks came out very late after hassling them. We went around 11am and I wanted something off the lunch menu with a poached egg, the waiter very reluctantly did this as they apparently have two different kitchens, but sorry aren't you there to accomodate for your customers? They have different waiter for different things so you never know who you can order from!!! The food was very average the only reason I would return would be for the view!!
Food For Thought..
Pathetic Place. I was looking forward to trying this place but i was bitterly disappointed. Limited menu which is very overpriced. Had the beef sliders and they were so small with a tiny piece of fatty meat in them and a bit of sauce slapped inside. Im sorry but for the price, it was just not good enough ! Ok coffee, but nothing special. Fantastic views which is about all. I wouldn't bother with this place, go elsewhere.
Generally Gruntled
Waited 20 mins for a coffee in the cafe, by the time it arrived had moved next door for lunch. Lunch service was fast but food terribly average. Sliders were dismal, gristly beef with unrendered fat and the taste of being slightly past the use by date, a poor square of lettuce and careless smear of mustary on stale buns. Tiger prawns were frozen and poorly cooked and came with a sad red cabbage salad that was not pleasurable to eat at all. Potato salad with undercooked potatoes. Dessert just as disappointing, the warm ginger loaf was not heated through and so stale that it was taken off the bill and the coffee pana cotta was flavourless and gritty. Won't be coming back.
Ewt2025
EdwardT. The food is average and limited in choice as are the beers on tap. Worst is the service, once they serve your food you are forgotten about. Best is the location, beautiful view of the beach and ocean.

Won't be back... ever!. The decor and view and Clancy's are great and it has the potential to be a really great restaurant. Unfortunately the staff and food let it down big time. We requested a table for two and the host took us to our tables without one word - no idea at that point if it was table service or not. Ordered our meals (entre and main). Entre plates dropped off were really dirty so chose not to use them and just eat off the plates the food came on. Seafood fresh but no love put into it. Mains were brought about 3 minutes after we received entres which meant we were half way through one course while our mains got cold. Such a shame!

If you are going to try one dish, it must be the "fried mice". Deep fried stuffed jalapeños on a fresh salsa with sour cream, they are the best fried jalapeños I have had yet in perth!
Karenlilian
Not too fussy. Well ! First visit at this place fairly good ! Last cpl of visits ... Well let's say the staff obviously don't enjoy there job as none of them smile!! After ordering 3 different beers and all were out of stock... Who does the ordering .... Lunch served without a word said , plates on table and a quick getaway .. Not even time to ask where the cutlery was. After a wait to pay we very nearly just walked out! Think I'll be giving this place a miss in future, I mean we keep staff in a job .. A job that needs customer service , if u don't have it do a non contact job
Murphee
I'm willing to pay more for good food but Clancys food was pathetic. Teeny tiny servings of average food. The sliders were big buns with a tiny bit of meat and smear of sauce. Not much selection to choose from either.

Forgot my order.. After lining up on the cafe side to order our lunch, we sat down and almost an hour later I lined up again to see where our food was. Was informed they must have lost the order. Got a refund and left. Wasn't even surprised as bad or no service for overpriced food is what I have come to expect from not all but most places in Perth.

Rude waitperson was unbelievable.. Our table of fourteen was shocked by the attitude of one particular member of the wait staff at the restaurant. Surly without the slightest hint of a smile the waitperson treated us with apparent contempt. The attitude she conveyed seemed to suggest that we should all have been honoured that we were receiving any service from her at all. Her interaction with some members of our party was nothing short of rude and I will be contacting the manager of Clancy's Fish Bar today in order to make them aware of our complaint.<br/><br/>Whilst the food and location were nice I will not be returning as I don't want to run the risk of being served by the same rude and morose waitperson again.
John Metcalfe
Cold breakfast leaves me cold. Visited with 5 of us. The 5 breakfasts were delivered soooo slow. And not all together. And they were all, at best, lukewarm. On top of that the last two were incomplete. When we asked for the missed bits they were brought out, cold, after the meal was eaten. When we complained they gave us the last two free. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.<br/>Then we were silly enough to go a second time! Again the meals were not served together. At least this time they were hot. Thank goodness for small mercies.<br/>Such a magnificent venue. I do hope they can get it right. As much as they don't deserve repeat business I may consider again simply because it's such a great view.

Ordinary. My wife wanted to try Clancy's at City Beach after a not so memorable experience at the Applecross venue some years ago so off we trot. No suprises food was so ordinary and lacked love and was tasteless. I refuse to venture to Clancy's ever again when places like Sayers, West End, Duende and Barque exist. Perth has moved on from this type of expensive rubbish we are so much better than this!
Janine Spark
Perfect location but food terrible. I could cook at home better. Tiger prawns - barely cooked on a clumsy salad, pork belly - just average, sliders - buns too doughy & filling quite tasteless - so disappointing
Chantelle
Not great at all. Thought we would try it out as Oceanias was lovely. Have felt sickly since eating there earlier today. Way over priced could have got a nicer burger from maccas. Will not be recommending it to family and friends.
Bobandbee
Clancys city beach. Have been to Clancys Fremantle and canning hwy for many years, so thought we'd try city beach. <br/>Beautiful location, but food was very disappointing, squid over cooked chewy, very fishy tasting, the fish dry, not the "Clancys" traditional chips you get from Fremantle and Canning hwy, bearded chilli muscles and the slider burgers were very very average, a tiny piece of meat with a piece of onion, just not right at all.<br/>Very disappointed with the city beach Clancys considering we have been loyal customers to canning hwy and Fremantle for the past 7 years plus.<br/>Won't be going back to city beach
Cynthiathom
Disappointing lunch. I met friends today for lunch at Clancy's fish bar - City Beach and ordered grilled Salmon rare. The salmon was overcooked and very dry, when the waitress collected our dishes, I let her know this, ( had eaten less than half the meal) she apologised and stated that she would let "them Know". However, I was charged full price with no follow-up. Very disappointing the meal was expensive and unappetising.
Thomsonclan3
Terrible. Awful experience - mussels cold, fish served five minutes before chips, sliders in stale buns, totally indifferent staff - never again!

The end of a love affair. As a local and frequent customer, I have eaten at Clancy's city beach at least once a fortnight since it opened - most frequently for breakfast. I love the cool, but casual beach setting which persuaded me to go there time and time again despite the decline in the quality of the food that I have witnessed over the past 12 months. With frightening regularity, I have been served cold, hard, poached eggs that would shame the most basic of cooks. It is impossible to complain as it is always so busy and to be frank, by the time I get the food, I am usually so hungry, I can't bear the idea of waiting any longer. The coffee is always good, so I had started to only order toast as even a 5 year old can make toast that is edible. Alas, I made the fatal error of going there for dinner tonight and ordering the sliders - $18 for three tiny bread rolls with a fifty-cent coin sized piece of cheap, badly cooked steak that was almost 1/3 fat and gristle and an under-cooked potato salad that could have come from Woolworths. <br/><br/>The quality of the food is unacceptable for the price, and Clancy's will go the same way as Retro Betty's in Leederville which closed down just as the Burger revolution took place. It is not enough to coast along in the beauty of the setting - I will get a takeaway and sit on the beach in future. Bye Bye Clancy's - I gave you one too many chances and I am leaving you. It's you, not me.

Had a visit to clancys on the weekend. Was impressed with the location and cool decor of the resturant, Unfortunately I felt the menu had limited selections and a bit over priced. The food was ok but nothing to rave about.. No wow factor to show for the cost.. Don't think I will return.
Carew-reid12
Netty. Enjoy the view because that was all we found to enjoy after lunching there recently. So disappointing. Overpriced, shabby and the cobwebs were accumulating in the rafters. Definitely left us with that ripped off feeling. Fine dining prices with cafeteria service.
Amanda
Very disappointing. Took the family to clancys last night. Have been to clancys many times. City beach, freo and dunsborough. Usually it's great but was really let down this time. The menu has changed so the platter that my husband and I always share and we were looking forward to wasn't there. In fact we all found it really hard to find something that appealed. Very limited menu. Teenagers were left hungry (never a good thing!) and we left disappointed . Will not be going back which is a shame as it's a great setting.
Senor Bueno
Overpriced yum yums. Let's be honest, everyone within a 5-10km radius of City Beach has a good amount of disposable income. So it only makes sense that Clancy's would charge exorbitant prices. It is good business acumen by Clancy. Has anyone ever met Clancy? <br/><br/>I don't think this place deserves it's lowly rating percentage. A few weeks ago I came here for breakfast, still quite drunk and barely able to communicate my order to the waitress. English was not her first language but she persisted with us all despite our lack of decorum. In Mexico I would have been shot for such insolence.<br/><br/>For some unfathomable reason I ordered the yoghurt and muesli, accompanied by my standard iced coffee.<br/><br/>The ice coffee came with ice-cream which is always a delightful surprise and I downed it in a matter of minutes. It was good but not the best I've had.<br/><br/>I really battled through the muesli which was more my fault than anything else. Everyone else got bacon and eggs. <br/><br/>The views at Clancy's are breath taking. It was nice to be able to look out at the new drum lines and envision myself being mauled by a school of tiger sharks. I find it funny they don't have shark on the menu, maybe we tip the scales back in our favour by chowing down on some great white burgers.<br/><br/>Being able to frolick at the waters edge post-meal was a real highlight. The glistening ocean cured my hangover and my worries disappeared like money from my bank account as I paid the bill.<br/><br/>A famous man once said, 'If you put a restaurant in a good place, people will go there no matter what'. This definitely rings true here, although I think the food is good.<br/><br/>Make sure you keep a look out for the skinny pasty boy working here. The boy can play guitar and is open to requests. He responds to ratboy among other things.

LIMITED/ESOTERIC MENU. Went on a Monday night, easy enough to get a table, service was good/quick but the menu (both mains and dessert), what a real disappointment...extremely limited selection and very esoteric for a beachside pub/cafe. Perhaps that's what the leafy-western suburbs folk like...??! Checked out the other Clancy's menus (whilst we were sitting there) and they offered SO much more choice. Disappointed and would definitely not go back there for food, perhaps a beer/wine and a bucket of chips but that's it.

Went to Clancys for breakfast, waited over an hour for it to arrive! Queried the staff and they kept saying it would come shortly without checking our order, turns out they lost our order! Wasn't even busy, poorly handled so won't return!
Rebecca_nash4
WORST restaurant in Perth. I've never written a review before, but after trying Clancys not once, not twice, but 3 times within the last 6 months and coming away each time thinking both the service and the food was worse than than the time before (if possible) I feel like people should know how bad this place is.<br/><br/>Being in the hospitality industry myself, it's almost painful to watch how this place runs. The waitstaff are pleasant but seem to be all over the place, there doesn't seem to be any sectioning or any way of keeping on top of the tables. <br/><br/>The first time I went to Clancys was a Friday night, so it was fairly busy, but with god knows how many waitstaff working there should be no reason to wait 25 minutes to then have to get up from the table to go and ask someone to come and take just our drink order!<br/><br/>The second time I went, there were four of us. We ordered a round of drinks....It took about half an hour for our drinks to arrive at the table, so we immediately ordered a 2nd round when ordering our food anticipating the wait. Our food arrived after a further 45 minutes, but the 2nd round of drinks didn't. We waved down a waiter 4 times to ask them to check on the drinks and they still didn't come. After yet another 20 minutes we asked again and explained we had been waiting for over an hour for 4 drinks.....when paying for the meal we politely explained that we would like the 2nd round of drinks taken off of the bill for the absurd length of time, to which the manager argued with us claiming we hadn't waited as long as we claimed.<br/><br/>I vowed never to go back but the location is so lovely I decided to give it a 3rd chance tonight. We were served much quicker this time around and drinks were at the table within 10 minutes. However, I ordered the grilled barramundi which was.......inedible. Considering they are a "fish bar" you would expect some quality, but the skin was slimy and the fish tasted disgusting. Despite leaving the fish untouched on my plate, there was no check-backs by the waitstaff to see if everything was ok, but after explaining to the waitress when she cleared our plates they agreed to take it off the bill.<br/><br/>Every time I've been I've waited a ridiculous amount of time to even have drink orders taken, sometimes having to wave the waitstaff down (which a lot of the customers were doing after looking around for 20 minutes being ignored).<br/>Tonight 4 elderly customer were seated at the table behind us with only 2 chairs and left to find 2 other chairs themselves. That is crazy bad service.

Disappointed. Had lunch at Clanceys City Beach today 4 prawns on a small bed of red cabbage <br/>Cost $20. Will not be going back.

Disappointing experience today. I haven't been here for about a year but what a change! The menu was mainly overpriced tapas! The food tasted nice but didn't match the price. The staff were extremely Inattentive which made for a slow experience! Several plates were badly chipped and so should've been in the bin!

Slow slower slowest?. Some of the slowest brekky service I've ever experienced. nice range of beers though but again once you've got a beer order your next one half way through!
Chakula
Nice location, very poor service. Ordered 4 coffees, came out 30mins apart, and only after we queried with the staff twice.
Justingraham
Why do i keep getting invited here?. Ordered from the "something a bit bigger' menu, got a paella that was just about entre size and well over seasoned. i finished in literally about 5-6 spoonfuls and watched my partner finish her chicken. What is this? a paella for ants??<br/><br/>plus too noisy and all they serve is craft beer - how bout stocking at least one beer on tap that you don't have to be a wanker to enjoy. ie Cartlon draft or heineken.
GRG
Takeaway coffee! Query after waiting 30 minutes. Finally have payment refunded after 40 minutes wait! Take away appears to put on the bottom of a never ending coffee queue. Answer: order with a table number or, better still, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Absolutely Appalling Customer Service!. I had dinner at Clancy's Fish Bar in City Beach last Friday night (24 Jan) and after experiencing very average service where our meals were forgotten and we were left sitting there with no food for 50 minutes, we were then double charged for our meal on my credit card. The waiter, who served us had problems using the machine and asked me to put my pin in again, I said I was worried that I would be double charged for the dinner however the waiter assured me that i wouldn't be. I have since discovered that I was double charged for my meal and since then I have tried to contact the restaurant repeatedly by emailing, posting a query on their website page and calling, all of which have not been responded to. This is absolutely appalling customer service, a real shame given the stunning location of the restaurant.

Really bad food. I ordered pork belly dish was just pure fat ,i couldn't eat it at all.very nice view but i was disappointed with food.
Sinead
Awful. Went back after 6 months to give it another try. Not enough selection on the menu. We paid 60$ for a cold seafood platter... The 2 natural oysters were off and smelt terrible, for this price you think they would make sure the 2 oysters were fresh as there was no cooking involved in our meal. We returned the oyster and they gave us 1 new one which we didn't eat and told them that it's put us off. The 20$ prawn salad had 4 small prawns on it (5$ a prawn). This menu must change!<br/><br/>This place has gone down hill, will never be returning.

Disappointed. My husband and I went to Clancy's City Beach for lunch today and were extremely disappointed. The meal portions did not match to the price we paid, my husband purchased the fish of the day and it came with not even a lettuce leaf. The food was tasty but for what it cost us, we will not be venturing again to the City Beach venue. Clancy's in Dunsborough it one of our favourite places, so we were extremely disappointed today.

Don't go with a large group !!. Had been twice before and liked the atmosphere so decided to spend a special birthday with a group of friends at Clancy's City Beach. Securing a table was a major challenge in itself, service was ordinary at best and all our entrees and mains were served at the same time, the "supervisor" told us that we should have made it clear when ordering that we did not want all the meals at the same time and that the wait person was new, seriously !!! <br/>Whilst I get the distinct feeling that this review will fall on deaf ears I feel much better sharing my experience, highly unlikely that any of the 16 people on our table will be recommending this restaurant to friends.

To be this bad, you have to try really hard. This place is proof that great views do not make a great cafe.<br/>I tried the cafe for breakfast recently. I won't be returning any time soon.<br/>There are some simple rules that good cafes follow. Cleanliness is mandatory. Coffee should always be delivered to the table hot. Food orders should never arrive at the table incomplete. Staff must not respond to customer's requests with an indifferent "I'm too cool" shrug. As for overall quality - My review title is self-explanatory.<br/>Also, does anyone understand the mentality of cafe owners who, blessed with such stunning sunset views, choose to close so early in the evenings and at weekends?

Disappointing!! This place .... Disappointing!!<br/>This place has sooooooo much potential to be pumpin but on a 38 degree day with no seabreeze the place was empty!! I rocked fearing i wouldnt find a table but much to my surprise there were plenty of spare tables at around 1pm.....the music was so and soft almost sleepy definitely no oomph in its stride, then there was the menu to choose from, quite small which is ok but need more seafood varieties c'mon we're sitting on the beach!! The $18 fish (Barramundi) doesn't even come with chips for gods sake! The aioli for the chips is very bland and the squid tentacles are very average, so much so i wouldn't finish them (even being a huge squid fan). Then there's the drinks, well if you only like WA boutique beers then you're in luck, don't get me wrong i am West Australian however on a hot summers day beachside not everyone wants a tap boutique beers from the south west!! Get with the program! Love the decor but alot of things need to change here and unfortunately this place is in the prime location but going down hill fast! I really hope it can be saved before its too late. Whoever is in charge of the food, beer and music needs to go! Sorry, you've lost me and my mates as a patrons!! :((

Terrible service. Really terrible service and overcooked, very expensive , fish. Pretty appalling for a seafood specialist. The only thing going for it is it's view. Staff were unresponsive and disinterested when we complained about the service and quality of the food. So many better places in Perth.
Angry_cat86
Excellent Service let down by average food. Attentive and friendly service coupled with a spectacular view of the water was not enough to hide the average overpriced food served. Not terrible but by any means but rather 'average' teamed with very small portions for the price. I am not one to judge small servings if the food is great quality and in a fine dining establishment but for pub fare you would expect more than 4 prawns on a $22 rather average tasting dish. Also what I found odd was that the grilled fish was served alone, no small side salad (not even a leaf of lettuce to decorate) no chips (didn't bother me personally as I am not a chip eater) just a bowl of tartare sauce. 1 small square of pub style barramundi with no sides should not cost upwards of $25.<br/><br/>I did have a great time due to the lovely wait staff and the beautiful view of the sunset however so the night wasn't a write. I will come back again for sure for a few drinks or even a share dish but not for dinner.

Poor service bad food. Living in the neighbourhood, I was eager to see if one my local eating houses, Clancy's Fish Bar, could become a regular spot to meet friends for breakfast. No such luck. After my friend and I placed our order, the drinks arrived fairly promptly (my orange juice did NOT taste freshly squeezed, as told) and we were kept waiting for almost an hour with no sign of food. The original waitress did not return to check whether our order had gone through and in fact no-one looked in our direction. Upon finally inquiring as to where our food was, we were told that they would check the kitchens. Around 15 more minutes passed before we had to ask a second time, and were told that somehow our order had not gone through. One of the waitresses offered to give us a refund, and in a couple of minutes the food finally arrived, which was not so nice. The food was extremely bland with little effort made with flavour. Clearly they are relying on the nice view for patronage. While it was gracious of the particular waitress to offer the refund (and she seemed genuinely apologetic and helpful) we would have preferred to have paid for nice food, and for it to have been delivered promptly instead of waiting for over an hour. Unless I hear that they have upped their game, I have no plans to return to Clancy's Fish Bar; it will not become one of my local hangouts to meet with friends, as I'd initially hoped.

The service is getting worse and worse, management don't know how to keep it up. Sort of restaurant still have the mentality of having a rude "australian" service. Wake up, the world is globalised. Living in the are for some years, I don't have many options part from this place. Staff rude, not trained, distracted, keep up with the productivity guys! Globilsed world, you adapt or disappear! My last experience was having a coffee and the person taking the order saying it would take 20 mins. So I left the place!

Went to the cafe... oh dear same menu as restaurant. We went to the restaurant 3 or 4 months ago and they had changed the menu.... for the worse. <br/><br/>So the cafe had been good in the past and figured they wouldn't do the same thing but they did!!! Smaller portions, average food... Guys - you had the best fish tacos. Tasty, value for money a real signature dish... and no longer on the menu! So we won't be back for at least 12 months unless the reviews show that you are offering value for money and decent sized portions..... A good view is ok but poor food portions and high cost will kill you over time. Like a cancer...

First time at Clancys.. first impressions were great, what a gorgeous view and the atmosphere calm & relaxing. Service was fine. My family was quite hungry as it was lunch time and we hadn't eaten since brekky..We ordered fish & chips for the kids, beetroot fritters for me and pork belly for hubby. how disappointed hubby and i were to see the size of our meals!! 3 tiny squares of pork barely touched the sides. The kids size servings were ok, twice the size of ours!managed to steal a few of their chips but hubby and I left hungry.

Great Service! What happened to the great menu?!. Clancy's City Beach is definitely having an identity crisis, while it has the atmosphere and decor of a modern Aussie fish bar ("Boardies and Thongs welcome" the door reads), the new menu is aimed at a small niche market of diners. <br/><br/>The food was plated creatively and aesthetically, but all in small miniature quantities (for what the restaurant go-ers are paying), and several of the dishes sampled by my company lacked flavour. Many of my guests complained that they just wanted a "classic fish and chips" offered on the previous menu. Clancy's also needs to regulate their speaker volume, most of the guests had to shout to each other.<br/><br/>The layout of the menu also needs some serious work, in attempt to help the customers by simplifying the menu they have oversimplified, plainly listing items - especially with their underwhelming list of desserts. (And really is the "Moccachino" worth $12.80?, really?). <br/>For the long winded and seemingly luxurious descriptions you sure don't get all that much on your plate. <br/><br/>While my experience at Clancy's City Beach recently wasn't awful, but in comparison to the old Clancy's I know and loved it was a definite disappointment.<br/>Unlike many reviewers on Urban Spoon I didn't have any issues with service, and if anything I could be picky about the fact that our waitress was TOO eager to take our orders for drinks and foods before my company was ready.<br/>The kitchen was getting the food out at a reasonable time, and the amount of front of house staff meant that they competently handled the number (maybe 1/2 to 2/3rds capacity) of customers in Clancy's.<br/><br/>My advice to Clancy's City Beach would be to seriously have a think about their menu- or better yet, bring back the old menu! Where are their famous fries in the cone baskets with aioli? Burgers? Traditional Fish and Chips? Chili Mussels? They are greatly missed!

Not good enough. The view is stunning- but thugs should not be the only reason you should come here.<br/><br/>I ordered 4 items. strawberry milkshake, orange juice, crumpets and frittata. <br/><br/>All of them weren't tasty at all. $45 down the drain. The orange juice was sour, strawberry milkshake was bland, crumpets were soggy and the potatoes in the frittata weren't cooked enough (i.e. still crunchy).<br/><br/>A little advice here Clancy's- just because you have amazing views does not mean that you can get away with serving such tasteless and disgusting food!<br/><br/>Pick up your game.

Don't get complacent please!. After attending a wedding ceremony late yesterday arvo on City Beach really wanted a good coffee so the two of us popped into the restaurant area which was pretty relaxed at 4ish in the afternoon, waitress informed us we'd be better off around the corner at the outdoor café (part of the same set-up) ,,,,too much trouble to give us coffee? So, around the corner to the café we went. Fab views as everyone says, friendly and having eyed the fish n chips the kiddies next to us were wolfing down we decided we needed more than caffeine to keep us going before the reception later that night. So we ordered fish n chips to share, which came out surprisingly quick, very fresh hot n tastey. Although we had to remind the staff twice, the coffee was good, and the Portugese tarts were beautiful. Will probably be back and try again.

Disappointing. The concept and venue are outstanding, the services was fast and friendly, but a restaurant it isn't. Extremely noisy with kids running everywhere. Which isn't too bad if your looking for quick food. My wife's stuffed beef looked unappetising and was pretty tasteless, I had the paella which was passable but underwhelming, the beer was good but we were looking for enjoyable food.
Doris
Disappointed. My husband and I went for breakfast this morning , to be fair we were advised that there was a 20 wait on coffees, it was a beautiful morning, so we were not too bothered. The coffees arrived after 30 minutes . The breakfast of which was one toast & preserves & one poached eggs on toast arrived after 50 minutes . The toast was warm bread, no sign of being anywhere near a toaster. We asked for it to be returned to the kitchen for toasting, and when it came back needless to say the eggs were now cold and hard. <br/>The last time I went to Clancy's a couple of wks ago , was a quiet week day morning and waited 15 mins for 2 takeaway coffees.<br/>I'm disappointed with the service at such a fantastic beach venue. Clancy's are clearly are unable to cope with the volume of people, and need to either reduce their covers, or make some changes, maybe have a separate takeaway section.
Rosie
Shocking Service. I am not usually one to complain, in fact this is the first time I have ever been compelled to write a review!<br/>Having had a bad experience a few days ago at Clancys (waiting 45 minutes for very average breakfast food) I decided to give it one more chance.<br/>We ordered two simple breakfast meals and waited over an hour for them to arrive. I approached two staff members about the delay which had no effect.<br/>When the meals finally arrived, the bacon was luke warm, the mushrooms cold and the sausages dried and stodgy. The tomatoes were inedible, they were shrivelled up and there was a brown line stained around the bowl where they had been sitting for god knows how long. The poached eggs were good but this was the only enjoyable item on the plate. So basically it ended up costing $21 for two pieces of bread and two poached eggs as that was all that could be eaten.<br/>I will not be returning to Clancys!
Terri Carr
Food was fine - expensive but the view is what you're paying for!
Chrisandkellie
Never again. I've been there for lunch 3 times and have asked for my meal to be returned to the kitchen to either be cooked properly or because it came out charcoal - refused to pay 2 of the times. I'm not a fussy pain in the bum kind of person and have usually tolerated bad food but not when it could actually make you sick!

Don't bother. It all started badly when we rang to book a table, but they said they didn’t take bookings. Arrived at 7:30pm to a line that ran out the door (literally). Once seated and after a considerable wait, we had to ask the waiter to attend our table to take our drink order. As the wait had been so long we decided to order our mains at the same time. At this point the waiter advised us that the fish pub only had Hoki and Salmon left on the menu, they were pretty much out of any decent kind of fish. We all ordered our mains to then be told that they were also out of Pork Belly. 1 hour and 15 minutes later I asked the waiter if he could check on our entrĂ©e’s as they had not arrived. Two main were bought out and there was a big delay between the other mains arriving. As we were nearly finished our mains, I realised that one of the guests had not yet received his main. Again, I called the waiter over and he advised us that he had forgotten to put the order through. When this main arrived it was battered fish and not crumbed as ordered. The beef tenderloin dish was like some kind of strange sausage. All of the meals were small and very ordinary. Not one person enjoyed their meal. Thank god the chips were good, otherwise we would have all gone hungry. We had an international guest with us so this was a very disappointing experience over all. I do not recommend this place. If they took bookings they may actually be able to plan for the catering have some food available.

BRING BACK THE OLD MENU.... the new menu really is rubbish and seems to be formulated by your accountant. What sort of place by the sea, doesn't have fish and chips or chilli mussels? Keep the menu simple and while you're at it hire another barman or two, so you dont have to wait 15 minutes to get a drink...

Unprofessional staff. My friend and I went for 2 coffes this morning at the Cafe next to Clancy's @ City Beach. The Venue is awesome and clean!! But the service is awful, staff is not professional, we ordered 2 coffes, at table 30 and the waitres/waitress were keeping on coming to us with orders that were not ours, 3 times without even apologizing..when it was time for us to get our coffes they brought my one to another person and my friend's one after 3 minutes.Very very bad.. His hot chocolate was kinda cold too..<br/><br/>Guys wake up and start working properly!!!<br/>I have been working in hospo for more than 10 yrs in europe and nz!!

Sunset Dinner. I came here with my partner after an afternoon at the beach. We didnt have a booking, so we waited about 20 minutes to get a great table overlooking the beach.<br/>I got the roasted portobello mushrooms with polenta with a serve of corn on the cob and he got a serve of fish and a bucket of chips. Although my meal was perfect sice for me, the fish and chips werent enough for a man-sized-meal and we both thought it was a bit pricey for what we got. Luckily the service, wine and view made up for it. I would definately go there again.

Paying for the view. My partner and i went there for a nice Sunday evening dinner, and whilst we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the selection of beers, we could be believe how expensive the dishes were for the serving sizes! the fish is literally just a piece of fish, and for 24 dollars, it was a bit of a disappointment. same goes for the prawn salad, i knew it was going to be small when the waitress described it as "tapas sized"! it was 4 prawns, some shredded cabbage and 2 cubes of mango (seriously, 2 cubes?) for 26 dollars. I ordered a corn on the cob as a side, and for 7 dollars, it was 1 ear of corn, and much to my horror, it was not cooked, only slightly charred on one side...the rest was raw! our meal came to 130 bucks, and we left hungry. <br/>such a disappointment because we have been to the Fremantle one and enjoyed amazing seafood for a good price. I cant believe the City beach one doesn't have a real seafood platter, just a cold one?

Great spot, bad service. This is our second visit to the Clancy's cafe for breakfast, chosen mostly for the location next to the beach and the children's playground. Unfortunately today our order was forgotten and we had to follow up with three different waiters to finally get our order over one hour late. When we did finally receive the order we were served with a child's size pancakes when we ordered an adults size and no offer of a refund. We asked if it was possible to have another coffee for free on account of the long wait and we were politely refused. Next time we will go to the Floreat Kiosk for breakfast.

If you would like to wait half an hour or over for 2 rounds of drinks, be completely ignored on more than one occasion, in fact, if you like flailing to try and get service then clancys is the place to go. The food wasn't bad but this is by far the most disgraceful and worst service in perth!
Jo Rowland
Wow.. first and last time here. customer service is rubbish, its a mish mash of interior design.. food wasnt that great, apprently its a big deal to order a drink when you have already paid, forgot to bring out food, brought us the wrong food... pretty shocking. the only thing about this place was the view of the beach
Hungerpangs
Beautiful view. Felt a bit worried eating here after looking at the reviews but we'd gone to the beach to show our overseas the sunset so Clancy's it was.<br/><br/>It was a weeknight but the restaurant was considerably full with the balcony only occupied by a few couples. Took our place by the railing and were soon greeted by a friendly waitress who took our drinks order. Service was great and the beers arrived within minutes. Our food order was then taken and we were left to watch the sun go down (amazing view).<br/><br/>Ordered two serves of grilled barramundi, two battered hoki, a paella and three buckets of chips. The fish comes out on a plate with tartare sauce and lemon on the side. Barramundi is a hand sized portion and the hoki as two deep fried pieces. The batter was light and crispy. The chips were a generous serve and cooked well. The paella was just ok. The rice was quite mushy and the chorizo a cheap store bought sausage although the prawns were fresh and plump. There were three mussels on top but they were steamed and devoid of sauce so quite bland.<br/><br/>Not sure what this place was like prior to the menu change but we liked it. The view speaks for itself and although the portions aren't huge, the prices are reasonable and the fish and chips are what they do well (good thing too considering that's their specialty). Liking the thongs and sand welcome policy too.
Igor Van De Ploeg
Disappointed. Pricy for tiny portions. Chicken breast was overcooked and dry. The size looked like an entry or a large tapas. To fill up you need at least 2 dishes bringing the cost to $50 just for food. Next time take away Thai and sit on the beach. Cheaper and the same view.

So disappointed. Clancy's used to be one of our favorite places to go for a relaxed meal and a few drinks, however after last night I don't think we will go back. The view and the staff were great, but the menu has changed and is really, really disappointing. Small portions and expensive for what you get. We were with a group of friends and not one of us was happy with our meal!!
Gandkking
BRING BACK THE OLD MENU!. Where's our delicious seafood chowder? Please bring it back! Clancy's City Beach is one of our family favourite hang outs. But the new menu is very limited, with incredibly small portion sizes. The kitchen said they didn't have any bread to mop up the sauce from our mussels! We're now searching for a new fave...
Frank Billing
Over the last two years we always were happy to go to Clancys as the Fish and Chips were good so far and the view gorgeous. <br/><br/>They now changed their menu, they have smaller portions and it's not really tasty anymore. Not sure if we come back ...
Vanessa
We go here every couple of months and are always disappointed in the service and the food. The beer and the view is what keeps drawing us back. We had the garlic prawns last night on sushi rice. There was a total of 3 prawns which was very disappointing. We also ordered fish tacos, they were simple and tasty but again overpriced for what they were. The service is slow if you want to order another drink. Our food came out quite quickly though. We will continue to go there but might just stick to chips and beer from now on.
NicNac342
We went to Clancys last week for dinner - the place was packed at 6pm with everyone wanting to take advantage of The great weather and the sunset dinner views. It took about 10 minutes to be seated but we were offered the drinks menu and by the time we had ordered our wine, the table was good to go. I had the fish tacos which were fresh and fab - my husband and son shared the seafood platter which was packed with scallops, calamari, sardines, fish, chips and salad - I'm surprised at the complaints about service because although food coming out is slow (ours was about 30min), the restaurant did not have a free seat in sight and its to be expected but the waitress was attentive, ensuring we had water and our wine was topped up. This might just be my new favorite local.
Lainy
I usually enjoy this place, the food and vibe but tonight the service and food were disgusting. It took an hour and a half to recieve food that was "half baked" and soggy. Clearly it was understaffed for the amount of people they were trying to serve. It will be a while before im brave enough to try that again
Steph G
Went there for lunch during the week. Took a bit too long to take our orders but once they did the food and drinks came out very fast. Overall it was OK, good selection of tap beers, the food was well presented but pretty pricey for what you get. Would only return for the view and the vibe and to have beers and chips.
Seasoned
I went there the first day it opened and the view and the beer was great, these are two things that Clancy's didn't make,I had a paella at the original Clancy's which was pretty good but the squid salad with watermelon by the beach left me traumatised

Great midweek vibe. Great meals, friendly service, excellent beach views and a wonderful atmosphere!!

Love the decor. I love the decor at Clancy's Fish Bar. Colours and bold and very unique. Made me feel like I was dining by the beach in Bali. My partner had the beer battered fish and chips that was nice. I had the garlic prawns that was disappointing. Just three prawns on rice. Way overpriced.
Angisab
Disappointed. Visited Clancy's fish bar last Tuesday night. Ordered the seafood platter to share with my partner. Upon arriving it looked impressive but once we started to taste the various seafood we were disappointed. The grilled barramundi did not appear to be grilled but was mushy and over cooked. I sent the fish back to the kitchen and whist the staff were apologetic the 2nd serve of fish was no better. The tastes and flavour of the rest of the seafood were underwhelming and the chips which were hidden under the fish were overdone. On a positive the side order of salad was fresh and top quality. For a seafood restaurant I expect them to at least be able to cook fish and chips. At the end of the meal the staff asked if the 2nd serve of fish was better, we were honest and said the meal overall was disappointing, the staff were again apologetic but no reimbursement was offered. I will not be returning.

Service is really slow we had to remind them 3 times about our drinks and the food took forever. Lunch menu pretty limited if u dont like seafood. Views are lovely though.

Found the service plentiful, the coffee flavoured stout out of this world and the meals sound.i liked the fish tacos and oysters were super fresh.

Great food and views, blah service. There seems to be a common theme with restaurants with great views - average food and/or poor service. Clancy's gave us a memorable night of great food but left us with memories of lack lustre service. It was one of the better meals we've had in our two weeks in Perth but the service was so relaxed it was almost non-existent. <br/><br/>We came on a Thursday evening and were sat at our table before 5pm. There were no more than 3 other tables in the restaurant at this time and yet it took a good 10 minutes for someone to bring us our menus. We then had to wave someone over once we had decided on our order. Overall it seemed that while we could easily spot at least 4 service staff in the place, no one was particularly fussed about serving or no one was responsible for looking after the customers unless the customer gets up to find someone to serve them. It is really a shame as the venue, decor and food could potentially make this place a stand-out but the service is so very non-existent that it left us feeling less than satisfied. <br/><br/>It seems that the idea of providing good service in what is predominantly a service-industry a concept that has yet to catch on. Pay attention, wait staff, you guys are the first and last impression that your customers will leave with. It is your job to serve and to leave your customers wanting to come back. Don't get lazy and rely on the food, views or 'status' of the restaurant to bring people back. It really does come down to you guys. Your customers can forgive average food but never average service. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years and can honestly say a restaurant is only as good as its staff.

Have been here a few times. Has the menu changed for winter? There's hardly any choice for a main meal. There was three of us and decided due to lack of mains choice, we would share some of the 'share' plates. Can't go wrong with the arancini balls. Prawns and the crostini great. Fish taco was ok- needed a sauce and not over cooked fish. The braised pork was a miss. Suprisingly large sizes and everything came in groups of three, as there was three of us it was easy to share.

Beautiful Location...crap service. Went to Clancy's City Beach this eveing.....politely shown to some seats with an ocean view....waited 20 minutes and no one returned for our order so I went and asked for the manager....waited a few minutes....no manager...so left and went somewhere else! Have been there serveral times before and the food has been lovely...although VERY pricey.....shame the service is crap!

It's the little things that count!. I don't eat seafood so it wasn't my choice (and it does call itself a Fish Bar so fair call!) but there were a few things I could have eaten mainly from the Share part of the menu and I thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin soup and the arancini. My pals had fish and chips and seafood chowder and they were all delicious. Great beer, ciders and wine to choose from and we were left to sit and chat and not hurried out even though they weren't many people left dining. We also appreciated being allowed to pay separately - that doesn't happen very often - and seemed like it wasn't a big deal for them. Next time we'll go earlier to appreciate the sunset.

Nice view, great atmosphere, friendly staff, yummy foods!! Perfect!

Credit where credit is due...I have been here twice in the last week (once the bar, once the cafe). Best service I have had in Perth in ages! 10 mins from ordering to food, drinks in 5 mins and bloody nice food and service with a smile at normal Perth prices (I have paid more at the Herdie for less). Have been here before and something has definitely kicked up a notch!

Not that enjoyable. Had heard some great things about this pub, but I was bitterly disappointed. I had the fish of the day which was served with grapefruit, it was way over priced, and not all that nice, my partner had the scallops, which were overcooked. We felt like we were being hurried along by the waitress, and when we had had enough of her pushiness, we paid and left to walk around the corner to find a massive line of people waiting to be seated, no wonder she wanted us to leave. On a side note though the view over the ocean was magnificent!

Food is generally good however on a recent Friday night found the front of house individual to be extremely rude. Knowing that we were first on a long list of people to be seated, were surprised when 2 groups of 4 were seated ahead of us. When I queried this we were told tables of 4 are given preference- fair enough I understand this, but at least give us a heads up. When eventually escorted to our table the menus were 'thrown' done and I tried to say that I wasn't trying to be awkward and understand that they're busy. He walked away. I had to almost shout after him as to whether he had heard and his only acknowledgement was raising his hand!! Rude rude rude!!!! Won't be returning
Get_in_my_belly
Not good. Wanted it to be so good - beautiful setting, funky interior etc.... the service was a shambles. There was about 20 of us, and they couldnt organise anything. They needed to take a credit card from each person to be able to seperate each couple's bill and distinguish the drink orders etc. but instead of telling the whole group that, they told each person, which took about half an hour in itself - as most people were confused as to what the need was to take the credit cards. We were all starving by then, and they walked away! The waiter looked suprised when I called him back and said "um, we're ready to order!" Anyway, I ordered the steak sandwich and it was so bland - in there was beetroot relish - I was really hoping for a tangy, juicy addition to my sanga, but it couldnt hide the plain taste of the whole thing. For the price I was just so let down. I love a good feed - and all I could think about was driving past some take-away on the way home to fill the void that tasteless sanga had left. Wont return.
The Honest Foodie
Terrible service for a restaurant which was a quarter full..... But the food was 6/10,staff where polite and views amazing. Probably would not drive to visit but if at the beach i'd definitely drop in for a feed...
Carly
Very disappointing. The view, service and décor and brilliant but that doesn't make up for the disappointing food.<br/><br/>I ordered the chilli, paprika and sesame seed fried squid with noodle salad. The squid was not battered or crumbed so frying it only made it taste greasy. The texture of the squid was ok and it was not too spicy as promised by the waitress which only made it edible not enjoyable. <br/><br/>The noodle salad was also not worth eating. I'm not familiar with the type of noodle (thin white dry puffed things) but they tasted stale and had a tiny bit of carrot and herb tossed through. No flavour. My plate was left almost untouched and I noticed that a woman sitting nearby left her meal in a similar state. <br/><br/>My partner enjoyed his meal though of gnocchi with beetroot, pecans and gorgonzola.

Family friendly, amazing view. Service is usually friendly and food comes out fast! !! Get the seafood platter for 2. Best value platter in Perth and delicious! !

Yummy fresh food after swim in the ocean. Just right!

Good night out. A friend and myself headed to Clancy's on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. While there was a 20 minute wait on tables we were able to sit on couches and have a drink while we waited, and the view we got when we were seated was well worth the wait! Service was prompt and friendly, we weren't forgotten even though our waitress was clearly very busy. We had the paella and the Sweet potato salad, both were lovely. Will be recommending this place to people for sure - can't wait to go back!
Lisa Murry
Beautiful Views. Had the best seafood platter here and it has the best views of the beach. I really like it
WiccaMan
A fish pub that runs out of grilled fish and cranberry juice how pathetic is that? How can you run out of "grilled" fish but still be able to offer battered fish?
James Fisher
Love the location - Cajun chicken salad was super. The array of beers on offer is amazing as well.
Pallavi
Best thing about this place is the awesome sea view! Food is decent, and it has interesting interiors but service is very poor. We waited for almost half an hour on a weekday to get a table and after placing the order, it took almost the same waiting time for our seafood platter to arrive!
Bruce G
We only drink there for the view. Food is $$$

Worst fish and chips ever.... Possibly the worst food I've had. Got the grilled fish and chips and a limp in edible side salad. Great location but eat before you go and just stick to the drinks menu which is quite good.
Toni
Over priced under whelmed. You pay for the location and unfortunately nothing more. Have had better fresher seafood tasting platers at my local chippy and for qaurter the price. Not worth all the hype. Never going back n neither are any of my foody friends and family.
Becstarb
Went here over the long weekend. And while the view and atmosphere were lovely, $23 for 3 prawns with no side is just to expensive in my opinion.
Tamarap
Headed here for dinner out with a friend. We shared the tasting plate and seafood platter. Prices are good. Servings were big. Food is only ok. Seafood platter had it's ups and downs. Battered fish was good, as we're the chips and mussels... But there's rest was below average and calamari inedible. Tasting plate ok but nothing to incite the desire to go back. Service was ok. Atmosphere and location were the highlights and only reason I would consider going back.

Go watch the sun set right in front of you while digging into one of the best fish and chips in perth - not soggy or greasy, perfectly crisp with moist flakey fish inside - far better than kailis or cicerellos (sp?) only let down was the watermelon juice.. More like watered(down)melon juice

Clancy's a big disappointment. My wife and I thought we would have a nice lunch by the sea. Clancy's is a big open noisy place, but thats OK. The service was good considering the sheer number of patrons. I had coconut prawns – they were simply awful – massively overcooked, dried out prawn flesh – the only upside was that I was only given 3. And nothing else for my $23. My wife had paella – I don't know a poilite way to say this ... it was horrible. Overcooked mushy foul flavours. She left most of it on the plate. The 2 small glasses of SSB were fine. We left hungry and $70 poorer. NEVER AGAIN.
LL
Disappointed for the last time. Not our first poor meal at Clancys but returned for the view and the hope of improvement. The fish was soggy and the chips were overcooked. Coconut prawns were deep fried until black. Overpriced for poorly cooked food.

Average - at best. Apart from the view and the service (what a suprise) this venue has little going for it.<br/>Out of the 4 dishes our party of four ordered, the stand out was the steak sandwich. For a seasfood restaurant, this is extremely poor form.<br/>The seafood paella had ony 2 tiger prawns in it, which were bland and floury tasting, there were 3 smaller prawns hidden in the dish and the chorizo was extremely poor quality.<br/>The scallops from the entree menu were again tasteless and slightly rubbery and the spicy calamari was overcooked and tough.

We walked in shortly after opening and were greeted and seated efficiently. Throughout the meal the waiting staff were courteous, if not friendly, but most importantly they were attentive. The majority of the food is deep fried but does exactly what it says on the tin - but with that view, you can't complain. It was nice to see local beers on the menu as well as a good British cider which married nicely with the extensive menu. All in all we had a pleasant, informal dining experience which was exactly what we came for.
Happy
Overpriced and ordinary mikshakes. We met for a coffee at the Clancy's outdoor cafe- one of the group wanted a milkshake- we were told these could be bought downstairs @ the kiosk on the beach but one was able to bringit upstairs to drink at the table which is what happened, however, I was horrified that $6.00 was charged for a very ordinary. milkshake that was half the size of the average milkshake served around town and to add insult to injury, we couldn't order it from the cafe, had to head downstairs, order, wait and then bring upstairs ourselves- very disappointing when prices like this are charged for a low quantity, average quality with no service provided- feel like being taken advantage of- here

Very enjoyable. Had a lovely dinner there. Food was excellent and the staff were attentive. Would recommend it, and we intend to return.

Ruined by the waitress. We had a great time there on a Sunday afternoon. We were a party of 8 adults and 11 kids and were comfortable with the 1 hour wait for the table. The kids came out within 20 mins of ordering which was great but it did take and hour for the adults food to arrive. I was ok with this as they were very busy. What ruined it for us though was when we went to pay. The bill was over $500 (in addition to the $200 we had already spent whilst waiting for the table). When we said we were going to split it evenly 4 ways the waitress went off and said in no way was she going to accept a split bill. After telling her that we do it out way only, or if she prefers we can split the bill according to exactly what each family consumed, or walk out without paying she reluctantly agreed. So what was on the whole a great experience was ruined by a bitchy waitress hell bent on minimizing her work whilst maximizing it for her paying customers and in the same process giving her employer a bad review. Well done love, I hope you appologise to your boss.

Great location overlooking the ocean but food was disappointing.

Love love love! Friendly staff, awesome beers on tap and lovely clean toilets. Came on a Wed lunch time and very child friendly. <br/>Amazing view - coming again for sure!

Hit and miss. Hit and miss with the food and waiting times. Very noisy. Best when it's less busy and you can enjoy the location.

I've been here numerous times and can't understand the bad reviews - love this place and come as often as I can! The food is also good!

Stunning View. Hands down, one of the best restaurant views in Perth. Cool, laid-back atmosphere and very friendly staff. The service is a little haphazard, but this is by no means a formal setting and they don't take bookings, so you take what you can get. <br/><br/>Food was a tasty surprise. I'm used to restaurants with a view coming with terrible food, but the food here was mostly very good. Come here for a casual meal and a drink by the beach. Sandy feet and bathers welcome.

Very disappointed by the cafe this morning. They were aware when we were arrived their printers were not working but still managed to lose our food order and we only got food at all because we complained after half an hour. Pancakes were dry and tasted re-heated. I ordered scrambled eggs with feta but was given a very small serving of plain scrambled eggs, two bits of dry toast with no butter on the plate and our 2 year olds vegemite toast appeared as jam toast. We won't be returning.

Been a few times. Excellent seafood platter. Plenty for 2 and more. Beer is always crispy cold! Excellent service everytime I go
Laura Ferguson
Great venue, great beer, terrible food!. Food has been awful every time we've tried this place. Which is strange because the Applecross, Freo and Dunsoborugh Clancy's have all been great food. Last night we had 2 dishes - Ravioli and the Fish of the Day special - both were watery, tasteless and cold. Disgusting for the prices we paid - $39 for the special.
Loodiedo
Oh dear. If you want a drink the venue has great beers and a good location on offer. If you want to eat .... keep driving. I have never been served pasta with cloves of raw garlic before but I guess there is a first for everything.
Jimmyt123456
Give it a miss.. Would like to enjoy this place due to it's location, but the poor food, bad service and ridiculous prices have seen an end to that. For a "Fish Shack", you would assume fresh seafood that has not been abused beyond recognition. Do yourself a favour and have a drink on the park bench next door and enjoy the view without spending $70 a head on absolute rubbish.
Bambi228
Nice atmosphere and location. Staff were great however 'Girly' drinks were lacking and food was a dissapoitment

I work in a busy pub, so I can appreciate how hectic a Sunday lunch can be- however the ONLY good thing about my visit to clancy's was my beer. after waiting 20 minutes to be seated- and another 15 or so to be seen by our waiter we ordered two scotch fillet steaks. I didn't mind waiting for the food, but when they arrived they were both overcooked and completely underwhelming. very thin cut, grilled with some broccolini on the side. NOT WORTH $39!! I felt completely ripped off. I have never joined urban spoon before this...I just felt the need to join to give this review. $39! for a poorly cooked steak that we waited so long for. My beer was great- thank god they have some good craft beer on tap! because whoever is in the kitchen is letting them down. Poor service also, totally uninterested in us. I won't be coming back.
Ozazza
Terrible. The food was so average and uninspiring. I ordered beer battered fish n chips which for a fish bar had no originality to it what so ever, the fish portions we very small with just frozen packet chips. My wife had a clam linguini which was the better of the dishes but was overcooked and the clams were rubbery. My kids had the penne pasta which was a total disgrace as for $10 dollars the got a cup of packet pasta melted with butter and some green herb on it. One grandparent ordered the roasted duck leg which was apparently overcooked and "tough as an old boot". The service was pretty lame and the slobby dress standards of one of the head waiters made me think he was just some dude off the street.<br/>The view is very nice but we won't go there again as I will enjoy the view from the grass next door with a blanket and enjoy fish and chips wrapped in newspaper.

BAD ATTITUDE, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Spent nothing because we all left before ordering. ALL 12 OF US! It was ridiculously noisy with a live band. When we asked the waitress to please see about lowering the volume she asked the manager who said NO! So we went directly to the manager and asked to please turn the speakers down (the band was all plugged in and it would have been very easy). Manager flatly said NO! She said nothing would be changed and we were the only ones who mentioned it. Funny she didn't notice that everyone there was screaming at each other to simply talk. So I said to the manager, I'm here with a large table of people and we all feel the same. Again she said NO! Amazing attitude I thought. So we all went outside to wait till the band was finished (which would be about a 30-45minute wait). We were all of the opinion that we should NOT reward the manager's attitude by staying and paying them literally hundreds and hundreds of dollars for meals purchased ... so we all left. We went to MAMBO'S ITALIANO RESTAURANT on The Boulevard just a kilometer or so up from Clancy's and we had a FANTASTIC TIME! See my review on MAMBO'S to find out what happened. Good riddance to Clancy's and their snotty, holier than thou attitude. Seriously the manager there needs to think about how much money she's let walk out the door. 12 people, all telling others what happened, and the word spreads and spreads. Note to the Manager with the green stripe in her hair - Can you be any more unprofessional, uncaring and have a worse attitude? We all think NOT! As we left I told the Manager "you just lost 12 meals"...she didn't care...typical.

Poor Service but a nice View. My visit to Clancy's at City Beach Yesterday was one my the worst visits to a restaurant in the Perth area, ever. As you walk into the restaurant you are asked to "Wait to be seated". After 5 minutes of waiting my husband and I walked round the bar to find a member of staff (in an EMPTY restaurant, I might add so they weren't rushed off their feet busy), suddenly out of nowhere a staff member appeared instructing us to go wait by the sign again..... another 5 minutes of waiting and someone eventually came to seat us.<br/>We did manage to get the seats we requested (outside facing the ocean, and it really is a spectacular view) and were given menus. We ordered 2 drinks and a started. Our starte arrived after 10 minutes, but our drinks still hadn't (by this point we were quite agitated as we'd informed the staff and we were still waiting). eventually our dinner turned up with our drinks following shortly afterwards. The chips were massively overcooked and tasted like they had been sat in a warmer for several hours and the fish had poor flavor. After eating as much as we could stomach we left to pay the bill. Que more waiting around twiddling our thumbs whilst we waited for the staff members to stop gossiping among themselves long enough to see to us. Whilst we were waiting for our payment to go through, the staff member serving us asked "were you here for the sunset only then", we replied yes and she responded with "Well I think it's stupid if you've come for the sunset and you're not even going to stay till it's fully gone down. Waste of time". We informed her we'd be watching it from elsewhere and left. I tried to raise my issue through the social media page of the restaurant and it was deleted almost immediately. I then re-raised my issue and was informed my comments would be continually hidden as they do not want any negative feedback visible to other customers (so rather than trying to sort out my issue they were just waiting for me to go away) I don't think I'll revisit.<br/>NOTE; After contacting the manger by email, our complaint was very well attended too, and we were offered a voucher to revisit, as well as an invitation to talk to the manager should we choose to go back. And received assurances that all the staff would be spoken to regarding their priorities. We are going to give it another go and hopefully it will be better, as our first visit in March was fantastic.

Pleasantly surprised at hit & miss pub. Went to Clancy's last Saturday for a quick, lateish (2pm) lunch to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather. Have been to this establishment a few times since its opening and have had mixed feelings about the place. But the location is just so good and the view so fantastic I felt it worth persisting (was so thankful when the overpriced Oceanus vacated). This was by far the best experience of the four or so times I've been, so obviously something's changed. <br/><br/>We (2) were seated straight away though it was quite busy. Staff were quick to take our drinks order (a pint of lovely local Joondalup beer and a sufficiently spicy Bloody Mary). Drinks out quickly and meal order taken: the Fried Mice (an absolute must if you're here: deep fried jalapeno stuffed with cheese), and the simple share plate (including a bit of everything: chorizo, feta, olives, but also some specialties like their meatballs and pork belly with pineapple). Food arrived within 20 minutes. Plenty for two. Total bill just over $50.<br/><br/>Staff were professional and pleasant (although I've had lesser experiences here in the past). Noisy but not overpoweringly so (can't stand that), and a great atmosphere. I think atmos is the key here; now all the sections are open there's a really nice feel to it, from the log fire when you walk in to the subtle cool live jazz playing in the corner. A little pricey, but as a local I envisage spending a fair bit of time here over the coming summer; especially on the open deck sipping a lazy ale.... as long as my next experience is as positive.

All I can say is NICE CHIPS!. Can't rave on about the food- I didn't try it...but the chips come out in these cone shaped devices and the aioli sauce was lovely. Crispy chips and the view was priceless....hubby had a cider and it was YUM. Service was spot on. The food that came out around me looked lovely too. I'd be happy.

DISGUSTED!!!. It took 35 minutes and 5 people to provide as with a cup and a mug of flat white and a baby chino for our grand-daughter. Two of the staff attending our table twice. My wife then waited a further 10+ minutes for sugar, by which time the coffee was cold and had to be replaced, fortunately fast. It was around 3 in the afternoon and the waiting staff should have coped with the few patrons. There were no apologies, no recognition of complaint, no eye contact and absolutely no interest in this customer. As we had the youngster I remained quiet, but the cashier was left in no doubt about our feelings, still refusing eye contact whilst mumbling inane, stock phrases without accepting any blame. <br/>It's ironic really, the last time we visited Clancy's was for an evening meal with overseas visitors. Whilst waiting to be seated, it was decided that the crescendo of noise with nowhere to go wasn't condusive to eating, akin to a food hall.<br/>Another one of these places with an excellent location unable to deliver. <br/>No wonder WA has such terrible reputation in hospitality.<br/>(We found the $10.60 charged and coffee acceptable.)

As usual sunday lunch queue but as only two of us we were shown to a table almost straight away. Great spot at the bench facing the ocean. My boyfriend found the stool bit uncomfortable. We ordered drinks and bit later asked a waiter next to us if we could order our food. We did. Nearly one hour later no food even though we noticed others had received their food and they ordered after us. We asked waitress to chase up and she came back with lame excuse about entrees being served first to all. Ok but we ordered entrees too and don't have them. So we decided to leave as we're told it would be another 15 minutes. We went to pay for our drinks only and told the front person what happened and he kindly didn't even charge us for our drinks. Still overall experience left bit of a bad taste so will wait awhile until the memory fades before we try there again

Terrible service.... I really want to like this place.. it's the third time I have been there - I like the other Clancy's and I love places that serve craft beers as there are not enough places doing this in Perth - but the service has been consistently bad. Prices are on the high side but you'd expect that given the location, food is tasty and the selection of beers are good. Today, much like the other two times we were there, the staff were all over the place - it wasn't one server allocated to a particular area it was just a group of people wandering around in a seemingly completely random fashion. <br/><br/>Our first drinks arrived without a glass for the beers - that would be fine if ordering a VB but paying $14 for a nice beer I would expect it to come with a glass. Time waiting for drinks was excessive and three separate times we waited about 15-20min only to be told they didn't have the beer we wanted. <br/><br/>It was always so hard to get anyone to serve us! There were quite a lot of staff there and it wasn't excessively busy so I just did not understand why every drink and food order was such an effort to arrange.<br/><br/>Even when trying to pay our bill several people walked past our table as we were trying to get their attention - one person even clearly looked at the credit card and bill on our table then kept walking. <br/><br/>Have given it three goes now and am no longer going to keep trying. It's a shame as the service really takes away from what is mostly a pretty good place. I can't look past the high prices if the service is that bad.
Kleena1234
Great venue with overpriced poor food. Great location, with overpriced, badly prepared food, which is becoming all too common in Perth. Go for a drink, save your money and miss the food. If you don't believe me in regards to the food, start with some squid rings to get a sense of what will follow. Awful!
Jimba9999
Poor food, Overpriced, Good location. We have been to Clancy's City Beach three times now for various functions. When it first opened we were impressed and hopeful. Second time was less impressive and third time was simply awful. Our last meal consisted of over cooked fish that wasn't defrosted properly (the fact it was frozen for the price we paid is another issue) and pasta that tasted as it it came out of a tin. Throw in half a dozen oysters and two drinks and I left paying $150 and feeling violated. Great venue, horrible overpriced food. Never again!

Food good, service very slow. Been there a few times service still poor. Lovely view though.

Only come here if you have .... Only come here if you have<br/><br/>- too much money<br/>- doesn't mind some of the worst fish and chips around<br/>- like slow, excruciating, incomplete service<br/>- love screaming kids<br/><br/>These City Beach types must be idiots for packing this place out!
Jamie Dickson
Dirty, dirty, dirty... And no one seems to care, the staff seem to be way more involved in how many piercings and tattoos each other has then actually care about the state of the place or the customers in front of them...
Believeinyourself
Good Size Servings. The servings were generous and there's a bit of everything for everyone. Everything tasted great, a bit too oily and rich for my liking but the quality of the food was excellent. The crab was fresh, the fish was tender and the chips and squid was textured just right. Walk ins only, no booking.

Just a great view. Given it a couple more chances. gotta get over the fact that its an amazing location with a great view because the food is terrible! shared seafood platters with some friends and it was not fresh, not exciting and not good value. <br/><br/>if you feel like enjoying the sunset here stick to drinks and maybe just a bucket of chips. everything else will disappoint!<br/><br/><br/>-----27 Apr, 2012-----<br/><br/>Going down hill. Used to love this place. the view is still amazing, and i will probably still go back here just for that. nice that you can go straight from the beach. but everytime ive been<br/>back the food gets worse and worse. plus the service has never been great. first time the appetizers were great. second the seafood platters were great. but just recently<br/>the squid was burnt. the prawns were pathetically small etc etc.still love the fried mice though!

Great Atmosphere & Food :). Came here for a dinner date on sunday night and loved it.<br/>Have always been a fan of the Clancy's in Fremantle so was keen to visit this new location.<br/>We got the shared seafood platter which was huge and came with mussels, oysters, prawns, squid, fish & chips.<br/>Everything was cooked perfectly and could not fault it.<br/>My only gripe was the slow service but as it was a busy night this is to be expected.<br/>Loved the music & decor inside, a really relaxed venue for a lazy sunday night dinner.<br/>Will be back!
Chasing That Food High
Just another one of perth's restaurants with shocking service... Despite the fact that we were seated straight away, I became easily frustrated 15 minutes later when not one staff member acknowledged our existence, let alone the fact that we wanted a drink.. We tried to flag down a staff member numerous times, & after 25 minutes & still no attention from staff we decided to leave. Will not even bother returning for a second attempt.. Thanks for the great service Clancy's, I give you a minus 7/10.

Something for everyone. I went to Clancy's last night with a few friends for tea. The thing that is great about Clancy's is how it manages to provide something for everyone no matter what mood your in our group your with. We started at the high tables and stools for a drink, moved to the lower table for tea and then moved to the couches for a coffee and chat. I really enjoyed standing out on the balcony with some Duck liver parfait on toast watching the waves crashing on the beach. Great views and a wonderful atmosphere topped off with a good choice of craft beers and some exciting food on the menu, Clancy's is definitely one of my new favourites.
ChrisM
Fish & missed....... Ok, before anyone berates me I know it is not haute cuisine, more your 'fast food' in a beachside setting but come on......it's woeful.<br/><br/>It was our second visit to Clancy's City Beach and the first one was pretty ordinary but I did feel inclined to give it another go. How I wish I'd observed the old saying about "never giving a sucker a break", it was worse than the first visit, in itself quite an achievement.<br/><br/>We took our children there for bit of a treat for their Sunday dinner and the problems started as soon as we were sat down. Despite being next to my five year old son and opposite my eight year old daughter we had to pretty much shout at each other to communicate, the music volume would not have been out of place in a Northbridge nightclub! I did complain and it was turned down by a decibel or two but it was still way too noisy. So to the food, the fish was ok, not great but acceptable and the batter was at least crunchy. That I am afraid to say is where the positives end....the chips are of the frozen variety and consequently the disparity in sizes means the small ones are dark brown and hard while the larger are still pale and soft. Is it really too hard to make chips from poatoes fresh? I know we would be talking high volume but I would happily pay the extra couple of bucks for continuity and flavour. The coleslaw was AWFUL, warm, limp and bitter with not a single redeeming feature, really, really bad. But it gets worse....the Tartare sauce was hopelessly runny and insipid in flavour and texture, given the simplicity of it's construction it was unacceptably poor.<br/><br/>My question therefore is this......when you purport to be a 'fish restaurant' and still can't get the fundamentals of fish and chips right what use are you? The answer to my own question is simple "NO bloody use at all". Clancy's is a waste of a fantastic location and seems to be flourishing despite itself, were it not for it's wonderful location I feel pretty sure it would not be so well patronised and would quickly have the 'Gone Fishin' sign up on the door.....gone fishing never to return I suspect!!!<br/><br/>If you want fish 'n' chips by the Ocean, go to the Groper and his Wife at City Beach, get them wrapped and take them down to the beach, it will cost you less and be a whole lot better!!!
Tele
Clancys City Beach Terrible. Yep I would say one of the worst steak burgers at 23$ I have endured, terrible quality meat, chewy, fatty, and bland in taste overall. Also under cooked chips. Coleslaw that arrived with the fish chips also tasteless. Disappointing. The peri fried prawns which I think are shrimp also super deep fried so couldnt actually taste the prawn. Complained to the lovely staff and the manager deducted half off the two pints (10$ in total) so no profit loss for them. Really poor. Wont return. How hard is to make a great steak burger?
Liz
We both had fish and chips one was ok one was overlooked hard fish and disgusting . Sent mine back which I try not to do as it ruins the outing . They brought another ages later by which time my friend had finished. Second one not much better and the chips looked like the originals and were cold . Could not face complaining again so paid and left. Will never be back.pver priced and horrible

Disappointed. On arriving at Clancy's there was a significant line waiting for a table, however it moved fairly fast and a waitress promptly found us a spot on a communal table. Our waitress for the evening was lovely, very friendly and attentive and took our orders quickly and efficiently. That's where the positives stop unfortunately. On viewing the menu once seated I realised the seafood platter was completely different to what was listed on the website, however we decided to give it a go anyway. Mistake! What came out was an overly battered pile of sad looking seafood. The fish itself tasted fresh but the 'beer batter' tasted like it came from a pack off the shelf at your local IGA and the chips seemed like your frozen kind. The oysters served kilpatrick style and one with horseradish and parmesan, appeared to have been baking under a grill for an hour or two and were dry and the flavours completely overpowered any taste of oyster(was there even one in that tiny shell?). The mussels were ok although a few were emply. some of the calamari was OK although the tentacles were as tough as rubber and the prawns had a strange taste to them. Overall very disappointed, Will definitely not be returning here for dinner, although a friend mentioned they do nice breakfasts so might give that a crack.

Good Staff. Good service stands out like a sore thumb in Perth. The staff are great and do their job well.<br/>The steakburger on the other hand....not great for $23<br/>Thin tastless meat and average salad. small serving chips.<br/>The view saved the evening though.

Lovely view. ..but terrible food- sorry! Staff are nice, the atmosphere is great, drinks are good, views are just magic- but....food is very ordinary and too much is deep-fried. Love to go back just for a drink though

Irish eyes were smiling.. 3 of us just enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at Clancys.<br/>We were served by a charming Irish lady who more than compensated for the only hiccup-my fish and chips had sat somewhere for awhile so the chips weren't hot; but they were quickly and painlessly swapped for a nice plate of hot crispy fish and chips. My companions also enjoyed their Kingfish and lentils and Cone Bay Barrimundi meals.<br/>Obviously the view was great and we were able to wander down for a swim in the magnificent Indian Ocean afterwards.<br/>What's not to like?
Planet_lars
Grilled fish and salad. We have a regular fortnightly catch up between mates here and have tried on previous occasions to order the grilled fish without the chips, and have salad in it's place. However, the establishment has insisted we pay for the salad as extra. Until last night however, when we were able to order the most delicious and healthy plates: grilled fish atop an enormous tossed garden salad. Thank you Clancy's City Beach. And we hope this might appear as a regular option: Grilled Fish (of the day) - with Chips - or with Salad.<br/>Thank you<br/>C

Disappointing. I had drinks & dinner on a late sunday afternoon & was pretty disappointed. The location & setting is great and the drinks selection is huge. But that's where the positives stop. The wait staff are friendly but the service was terrible. The mussels were very average - gritty & the sauce was weird. No butter on the bread. The aioli had too much vinegar & not enough garlic. The music was so loud i couldn't hear my partner talking. Won't be going back there for food.

Service & Views. Since I've been in Perth, only one person had recommended Clancy's Fish Pub, now that I've finally been, I will be telling everyone that I meet.<br/>The views are the best in Perth, the service amazing, the beers cold and served with a smile.<br/>We only had nibbles and as a whole they were good.<br/>Finally an unpretentious bar that appreciates sandy thongs.

Perfect for a night out with the girls. Usually my birthday dinner celebrations end in disaster. The restaurant either forgets my table entirely (the Saint, Innaloo) or we get shoved in a cramped corner with no aircond and have to wait 90 mins for food (Pancho's Vic Park). Anyway, I was a little apprehensive about this one..but as soon as I walked in I knew it was all gonna be ok. The fact you can't book ahead makes it better, because you don't need to worry about giving final numbers. There's heaps of room for big groups. The service was quick, food was great ( I had the fish n chips, not complicated but just what I wanted) , our waitress was friendly and polite taking photos for us, and they let you split the bill at the end which is rare in Perth and always better for larger groups. All in all it was a fun, stress free birthday worthy of a nice big tip for our wait staff.

Enjoyable Lunch. Went for lunch on Valentines Day and enjoyed our meal. Couple of slight criticisms though. Firstly my smoked salmon tart and rocket salad was woefully under seasoned. Secondly my creme brûlée was not crispy on the top like a brûlée should be. Had obviously been sat in the fridge for the sugar to go soft. Tasty though. Couldn't fault the service and the view is obviously spectacular.
Amy
Terrible service and food. Was very interested in trying out this restaurant, was a good atmosphere and didn't have to wait long to be seated. however it all went downhill from there.<br/><br/> The waiter took our drink order then had to wait over 20mins to get our drinks, when it came to ordering food the waiter didnt know a thing about the menu so couldnt tell us the specials or what was in the dishes we asked, then it took 1 HOUR for our food to arrive! after asking several times if it was on its way they just said its not their fault and they cant control the kitchen & it's because of us ordering the baramundi that its taking so long..<br/> what the!!! groups of people who arrived well after us got their food before us.<br/><br/> finally our food arrived, it sure wasnt worth the wait. the fish and chips looked nice, but i ordered the steak, it was the SMALLEST piece of steak ive ever seen!! how they can charge $38 for something that was literally about 3bites is disgusting. then it didnt come with the potato rosti as advertised. They gave me complimentary fries but still, poor form. The waitress then came over and said she took a couple drinks off our bill for the wait but then they didnt come near our table again or say goodbye as we left. such a shame it had such potential! poor service and rip off prices i will not be going back!!

Mixed Feelings. While the location couldn't be finer the tables were sticky and the food over-priced.

Terrible Customer Service. My family and I visited this spot on Friday evening. From the moment we walked in we weren't acknowledged and it just went down hill from there. The customer service was so awful it was embarrassing. The staff were more concerned about doing a pre close and obviously forgot who pays their wages.. the customer! After a ridiculous wait for our first round of drinks and the most pitiful cheese board I have ever laid eyes on, we left... someone please take over this place, the current business is just wasting a prime location... such a shame.

By far the worst Clancy's. I went there yesterday to check the place out, but will not return again. Before I start my rant, the staff were (mostly) friendly and the Fried Mice were very nice. <br/>Unfortunately I ordered the 5 Spice Calamari which I assumed came with chips and salad like other Clancy's - but I was wrong. I received a handful of tiny cut, over spiced and completely dry Calamari with a side sauce that had developed a skin on it. So I assume due to the speedy service, had been sitting under the heat lamp for quite a while. I would have not eaten it and sent it back had I not been so hungry. I was stupid as I paid $18 for this so called dish!<br/>I also don't like to be waited to be seated, and then have someone take my order - its a pub, not a restaurant. I also didn't like my beer being bought to me. It came to the table looking flat and who knows what anyone did to the pint while it was on the bar before being served. Secondly I don't think they've cleaned their lines in a while. The pint was meant to be Nail Ale, but tasted more like Nail mixed with something fruity like Little Creatures. <br/>Other than that the view was nice and it distracted nicely from what looked like bright washing hanging out to dry inside.<br/>Will not eat here again if you held a gun to my head.

If you wanted a backpackers diner by the sea.... This place was feral and disgustingly over-priced. Seriously.<br/><br/>The staff were earnest and meant well, but genuinely had no idea what service meant. We were kept waiting at the door for 25 minutes, not offered drinks, had to call for attention continually and didn't have tables cleared etc. The decor is somewhere between a back-packers' and a teenager's bedroom - tacky. <br/><br/>There was no music, the lights were glaringly bright (evening), lamps not lit... just no atmoshpere.<br/><br/>Upon being seated we were told that there was no fish, no mussels, one serve of fishof-the-day (with no other explanation of the dish - some vague reference to potatoes, asparagus and roquette when asked) etc etc ... It's summer in Perth at a beachside restaurant. Ended up paying $78 each for two platters to share (which included mussels and fish?!?!) and bill totalled over $300 for 4 of us for a meal none of us finished. Nothing was cooked properly; brown soggy calamari, over-cooked fish and dry prawns, greasy chips, cold oysters kilpatrick... entrees served separately so that one got cold while we waited for the others.<br/><br/>At no point did anyone ask if meals were alright, offer further dishes or drinks... A casual atmosphere is one thing, but when meals are as expensive as this one expects subtleties of service and finely crafted menues. Have no idea if they have desserts or coffee, no-one offered any.<br/><br/>This place is revolting and it was embarrassing to have taken a well-travelled couple from Sydney to such a dive. If only we'd known... businesses like this are lucky they're in Perth with no competition and such great locations. Their cooks can't cook, their service staff can't serve, their barman couldn't recommend a drink. Such a waste of a place with such potential...

Sub-standard all round. Of the five of us who ate there, we were all dissappointed with service, price and quality. Service: staff were friendly enough but were hopeless. Waited ages for drink and food orders to be taken, in fact we were going to get a second round of drinks but couldn't get any staff. Price: Simply over-priced. $21 for no frills battered fish/chips, $28.5 for grilled!!!! Why?? Mussels were in a very basic olive oil and vinegar sauce....it was like eating mussels soaked in salad dressing. Calamari wasn't even close to normal standards (no one could finish it). $50 later and I am writing this review. Poor form Clancy's.

Oh No, What is This Place Trying to Be?. Take poor service, with over priced ordinary food and put it in something like a USA chain restaurant environment. For heavens sake, whoever owns this try a little bit. Won't be back ever again.

Lovely location, some 'hit and miss' food. Would return solely for the location regardless. <br/><br/>Service was good - accommodating and efficient. <br/>Drinks - fairly sizeable selection of all drinks (alcohol and non alcoholic).<br/>Food - some misses and hits. <br/>Fresh Oysters were plump and creamy<br/>Fried Mice (jalapeño stuffed cream cheese and deep fried) was interesting and was quite nice<br/>Kingfish with fennel and lentils salad was good - kingfish a bit dry<br/>grilled fish and chips was average<br/>steak with Horseradish looked good <br/><br/>Price - a bit high for the food quality. I guess you pay for the premium location.

2nd time a little bit luckier!. I notice I wrote a review for Clancy's last year and berated it for it's slow service. The food is very good (seafood tagliatelle excellent), but again the service let this place down big time! It's really random... they'll come and clear half the plates, then leave you sitting there for about 10 minutes before coming to clear a few more, and then a few more... I don't get it?! The dreamy/laid back attitude to the service lets the good cooking and perfect location down, a shame.<br/><br/><br/>-----07 Dec, 2011-----<br/><br/>Perfect location, good food, but sllllowwww service.... Love the location of Clancy's at City Beach, the interior is great too, rustic and laid back. The lunch food was 'good', but just wish the service had been speedier, we had to search out staff to order, for dessert menus, to pay...and it wasn't even busy. I love laid back, but this was way beyond that... Also currently building a café and very very noisy drilling and banging - check before you go, or it's not the most chilled of dining experiences.

Poor food, Over priced, very helpful staff.. I got the fish and chips, there was more batter than fish, and the batter was tough, tasted poorly, and the fish was dry, tough and tasteless.<br/><br/>We also ordered fried calamari, which would have been great as it was perfectly fried and the batter was thin and fantastic. However it was dusted with chinese five spice which just didn't suit. We tried to order it without the five spice and the waiter, who was really good otherwise, talked us into the five spice.<br/><br/>For a seafood specialist in such a location the food was rough. I've had better fish and chips on a mine site.<br/><br/>The coleslaw was awesome though. Shame the best thing that you can say about a fish restaurant is that the coleslaw is good.

Tasty food but too much going on. I was recommended Clancy's in City Beach by some friends with families so my husband and I took our young child to meet another young family for an early Sunday dinner.<br/>On arrival we were pleased by the family friendly vibe, the staff were helpful in finding us a suitable table and high chairs for the kids. We had to order quickly as the kids had a limited time and the staff helped that happen. <br/>After we were settled and waiting for drinks we found it was really too loud to relax and have a conversation without shouting over the noise. The DJ didn't really seem to be getting that it was just a room full of families trying to have dinner and a conversation and that it was unlikely anyone (bar our 20 month old companion) was going to get up and dance.<br/>Our food came out relatively quickly though the adults were nearly finished before the kids' meals came which made for an interesting sharing experience. <br/>The serving sizes were really small considering the cost. My friend ordered the souffle which looked delicious but it was really an entree size and priced at $25 its a bit much!<br/>We were in the bar for about 1.5hours, one drink each and a very light meal and the bill came to close to $200. I don't mind spending that on a good meal in a relaxing environment but that wasn't on offer at Clancy's. <br/>The food was nice but I don't think it is what the clientele are looking for. Casual pub food at a reasonable price would be just the ticket! (see Clancy's Freo!).

Not too impressed at all.. I have been to Clancy's twice now and was disappointed both times. <br/><br/>The first time I had the Portobello mushrooms. There were four mushrooms with far to much lemon on them. It overpowered the whole dish. If I wanted that much lemon I would have eaten one.<br/><br/>My mother had fish and chips. The fish was extremely thickly battered and bland. It was more batter than fish. The wine that she had in one of those stem-less glasses (which I hate) was okay but the glass was dirty.<br/><br/>And the second time I had a meal there I had the Steak Sandwich. Beetroot relish and coleslaw made the sandwich bread very oddly coloured. The coleslaw had far too much mayonnaise on it and the relish was both odd tasting and boring to say the least. And the meat had flakes of whatever else had been cooked (and burnt) on the griddle before it and made for a charcoal-y taste as well. <br/><br/>The service was very slow both times and I began to think that we had been forgotten by our servers too.<br/><br/>Overall, I was disappointed and will not be going back again.<br/><br/>I really did prefer it when Clancy's was Oceanus.

Smoked salmon tart great! Pan fried squid salad great! Steak sandwich a good feed :)

Great location, below average food. Lovely beach side location and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. But the food was very disappointingly below average. Batter on the fish and chips was tough and not fresh! Very basic for a seafood restaurant. Chips tasted as if made from reconstituted potatoes. Also had a goats cheese souffle, which was average and came with a salad with tinned pears! Pears are in season at the moment.<br/>Come on Perth. You can do better than this.

Portions could be a little bigger but apart from that I'm really happy with the fish and chips I received and the service was great. Great atmosphere and during sunset is an amazing time to be here. 4 stars

This is the best! I could eat here everyday!! Best fish and chips in Perth!
Tasty Trudi
Tuesday Night. Lovely casual relaxed feel. Magical at sunset. Wine - Pemberton Chardonnay smelt like photo processing fluid and thankfully didn't taste like this. Good choice of ciders. Also Matsos Ginger Beer on the menu - my fave. Food was typical pub food with a slight twist. Duck and Noodle Soup - a little bland, Seafood platter for one ($34) great value. A mix of calamari, coleslaw, chips, moreton bay bugs, prawns, oysters kilpatrick, beer battered fish and sauces to match - lovely. I have to say I was impressed and I will definately be back with bells on to try the other goodies I witnessed on the menu.

Clancy's. Very kid friendly, yummy fish and chips but I don't like having to stand and wait for a table especially on a busy weekend. Could be a problem if there is more than four people together or if you don't like communal tables.
Corin Leckie
What a shame. Great location and what a view. Service is half hearted and the food is poor for the money. This could have been a gold mine and a truly fantastic addition to the city beach area. What a shame that it has ended up as bad as this.

Lift your game.... Been to Clancy's 3 times now. We choose Clancy's because it's fairly local and we can take the kids. BUT, the service is very slow and the food is highly overpriced for what it is - pub food. One occasion had smoked salmon, so smoked it tasted burnt - inedible, 2nd occasion had the goat - just a bland watery casserole concoction. Worst part was forking out $250 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Hesitant about going back.
Fab Food Addict
Mixed service but great view!. After reading other reviews I was hesitant about ordering much food here, so I stuck to a pre-dinner snack of chips with aioli sauce and tea and coffee..<br/><br/>The food we had was yum and the plunger tea was delish. The views are amazing, definitely worth a visit at sunset and the decor has a very beachy, hippie vibe that made me feel like I was in Margaret River.. I would recommend going on a weeknight to get a good seat and avoid the crowds, although there seemed like plenty of seating.. Service was mixed, one waitress was friendly and really helpful while another seemed to walk the other way every time you approached her for assistance. Overall though I would definitely go back, even if it was just for the view!

Small portions, disappointing. Great location on City Beach, great views of the beach from inside the restaurant, wonderful colorful atmosphere inside. The food was nice but the portions were unbelievably tiny.

What is this?. Just had dinner at Clancy's fishbar City Beach - great location for a drink and meal. Ordered the market fresh fish (barramundi according to the sign on the way in) served with seasonal vegetables and smoked paprika butter. Received a heavily seasoned crumbed butterflied fish fillet with coleslaw and chiips????? Evidently the barra had finished, so it was garfish - no one told us - no vegies, finally got some over cooked roasted ones - asked for water, got none - lack lustre service, below par food. Why is it that restaurnants insuch great locations, find it so difficult to serve good food or have I just watched too many cooking shows?
Mark Lehmann
A satisfied client. Good food, nice drink choices. The mussels were good, the fish and chips ok, the pickled bugs to dry but the pickled veges nice. Too many kids though. What's with that?

Over Done It!. I have lived in the area for a decade and thought my dream had come true of a great casual dining and drinking experience at this stunning location when I heard that the old and out dated Oceanus was closing. Dream on!!<br/>Well, i have given it a good go, repeatedly returning to Clancy's at City Beach with friends and family over the months since opening, but will not be back again. Yesterday's food experience was too appalling (again!) and expensive to ever repeat, and when I found myself needing to apologise to my visitors, I realised it was time to face the reality that it was never going to get better!<br/>Menu is unchanging and pricing on some dishes is questionable. i find it hard to think that the chef has actually tasted the food that comes out of the kitchen! (All that's needed is a reasonable 'pub food' standard to be reached because the location will bring people back.) And, the really big question... it's a fish bar so where is the fish that isn't battered or coated in something? <br/>So so disappointed!!
Klo
Yummy food, excellent service, so child friendly that I think my 2 year old got better service than me!
Juniper
Quite disappointing. The waiters were friendly but the food took way too long to arrive (even a starter of bread, which should have been straight out). The seafood platter was well presented but mediocre in taste

You can do better.... At last we are rid of the pretentious old restaurant (Oceanus) that arrogantly served overpriced and underwhelming food with really dated 80's vibe dominating our local City Beach ocean front. I, like so many families in the area thought at last we were going to have a pleasant change with Clancy's moving in on our scene... Ok the decor is really great and funky and chilled and original - I really like that but the menu is so boring and overpriced for the quality. It's a fish bar so do fish brilliantly!! Please! The batter should be the best in WA, the price should be affordable to the general public. I have just noticed a new promo for breakfast at $28 each...are they serious? For once I'd like to see a restaurant located in a prime location actually offer good food and prices affordable for all instead of always trading off the location...
Soph
Good value. Lovely staff great location and set up, food was good. Yes the food wasn't great as it is still just pub food, however I will certainly go back!
Aimee
Wonderful. I absolutly love Clancy's on Canning hwy and was delighted when i went with my boyfriend to the new city beach one. <br/>Food was massive and full of flavour. it was super busy but the staff made sure we were seated at soon as possible. was a beautiful day.
Empem
Funky and friendly. I am very happy we have something like this in the City Beach/Scarborough area. It's a great place, relaxed, but with a funky interior. <br/>Best bit was turning up at a quarter to nine and not being told off or being told that we only had a short time to order before kitchen closing like so many other restaurants in Perth. <br/>Love it and will definitely be going back.
Gingerpip
What a difference. Yum and fun<br/>Absolutely buzzing!!!! Trendy cross section of diners. Mango and squid salad was huge and soooo delicious I devoured it all. The yoghurt and strawberry mini pavlova was lovely also. Fried mice a naughty start to the meal. The fish and chips were "ok" but hubby and my friend couldn't finish and felt very bloated and heavy.<br/>Mum's, please leave your luxury cross-country prams at home. It makes it very difficult and unsafe for staff to service tables
Rachel Pemberton
I was there on a monday night and there was a great vibe and really friendly service, but the grilled fish was dry and plain, the chips were soggy and they have the proportions all wring - with way too many chips and not very much salad. But the view and atmosphere are great and that's definitely what you're paying for... 6/10

I have been and loved it. The staff are so nice and although the queue was long it moved pretty fast. Our drinks arrived quickly even though it was chocca and the food was gorgeous. We had a window table overlooking the beach and the whole experience was beautiful

Abysmal. - The mussels are advertised as gluten free, but come served with two large slices of bread on top. As a coeliac, I had to pick these off and hope that the crumbs didn't get into the mussels<br/>- Said mussels were over cooked, luke warm, gritty and 5 still had their beards. The cooking juice tasted like dishwater. The whole dish was poorly seasoned<br/>- The chips that I ordered as a side were pale and undercooked<br/>- My companion's squid was tough, bland and cold<br/>- Five minutes after all our food arrived, there was still no sign of cutlery. Shortly afterwards a pile was unceremoniously dumped on the end of the table<br/>- Even though there were plenty of empty tables inside, there was still a long queue. Obviously this didn't impact us at all, it's just a bit unfair to the people waiting<br/>- The wait staff, although charming, looked hot, stressed and over worked<br/>- Finally, it was absolutely stinking hot
Second Dessert
Average. We've been twice now and disappointed both times. First time, we thought it might be 'teething' problems, the food was very bland, staff wandering around not really knowing what to do. Second time, we had F&C, it was very oily and salad dry. Also the a/c needs to get cranking in there, the staff we (literally) dripping with sweat as they ran around the busy place- I felt sorry for them! Would go back for drinks because of the amazing view, but not for food.

Good pub food. Despite going on a wednesday night, it was still incredibly busy and we had to wait for a table which is'nt a good start. <br/><br/>Even though the staff were crazy busy, they were friendly and helpful, which was a pleasant surprise.<br/><br/>It does'nt quite match up to the clancy's in Freo, but i guess it serves a different market & given time, it may improve.<br/><br/>Having said this & remembering that it is really just a pub, the food was good, tasty, well cooked and fresh.<br/><br/>It's great to have properly brewed beer, but it seemed overgassed and fizzy, which was a bit of a disappointment.<br/><br/>Overall though, It was an enjoyable meal & a good experience & i would go back.

Unsubscribe. Have been twice now - first time not long after it opened and second time just past weekend, apparently after both WA newspapers had a review of the place... So that is why it was so busy??<br/>First time = average. Attentive staff a plus for sure. Not as laid back as Freo, to be expected I guess, different market completely. Food also average. I went the 'signature dish' (one would expect anyway) of fish & chips. Too much oily batter, fish a bit dry, chips seemed slightly undercooked - a few more minutes to get the colour and a bit of crunch would have been nice. <br/>Sad looking bowl of coleslaw on the side - wilted and unappetising. Stools uncomfortable. <br/>Repeat visit - had to wait for a table, that is inself is OK as I could see it was v busy. After waiting a few minutes I thought I would order a drink but the guy said my table was ready and I could order one from there. OK sounds good. <br/>Where was my waitperson. Young man carrying glasses? Nope, he could take orders, sorry. Oh, here's the guy who bought me to the table, Nope, sorry, need to order from the section staff. Hmmm, OK...but where was she?? Oh, there she is. Nope, sorry didnt have a palm pilot order thingy. Grrrr.... finally there she is. Order taken. <br/>Thank god for Matso's ginger beer :)<br/>Friend and I declined to order food - not much of interest on menu, not much to share and 'tasting plate' at near on $40?? I dont think so, for a bowl of olives and bread and some deep fried squid?<br/>Consoled ourselves with bowl of chips. Again could have stayed in the fryer for a few more minutes. <br/>Overall - disappointing. Staff seemed way more stressed, and far less attentive this time around. Menu is uninspiring and limited. <br/>Chairs still uncomfortable...

The Year is 2011, Clancy!. Firstly, what's with the Fishbar thing? Is Pub a little too la classe ouvriĂšre for City Beach. Now, with that out of the way I've just spent 5 weeks with an overseas visitor eating out most nights at a wide variety of venues from Bunbury to Lancelin and Clancy's was the first place we ate at where my guest, who has a food allergy, could literally get nothing to eat but fries! Very poor show these days where allergies are pretty much an accepted and catered for aspect of modern life. Apart from that the venue was very noisy and the seats unbearably uncomfortable. Other diners with me enjoyed the tasting plate. The experience wasn't good enough to bring me back. Enjoy a better view with a picnic outside on the lawn with BYO wine.

Unhappy. Line out the door for a half full restaurant. Service was rubbish. Food was bland. Drinks list was by far the highlight but due to licence restrictions, drinks without a meal was not an option.

Dissapointed!. Have been to Clancy's City Beach 3 times now and on two of the occasions the manager has ruined the exeperience for us. The worst visit started with the manager asking us to wait to be seated even tho the resturant was half full. He promised to come back for our drink orders and cater to our request of needing a high chair - first two lies of the evening. He returned 15 minuted later saying nothing about the drinks and sat us at the middle high tables and walked off leaving the toddler with no high chair or comprehension of catering to the customers needs. Once we sat down the wait staff were great and quickly got us a high chair which just looked stupid as the poor child couldnt even see anyone as we were at the high table. We managed to speak with the manager again and requested a regular table for obvious reasons. he then said there wasnt any, (there clearly was), and he would give us the next available table. We then watched him seat 4 more tables without a inkling of assisting us. Our mains came out quickly and the food was good, but honestly thanks to the manager i wont be back. <br/><br/>Ill go to freo where there isnt anything he can ruin for me for lie to me about.

Don't even get me started on the food, for starters they didn't have any barramundi left so I had to settle for greasy Hoki and get charged the same price. The amount we paid for the fish, we assumed it would at least come with chips or a salad....nope just a small piece of fish. The price for this small piece of fish was $19 each, we then asked for some chips (as we weren't made aware it didn't come with a side!) and we were charged $7 each for those. Others might not think this was very expensive but when you take into consideration the size of the meal, and the very unfriendly service, we did not feel the price was justified.

Clancy’s CafĂ© is next door to Clancy’s Fish Bar in City Beach. They are part of the same building and have the same owners but are separate places to eat. The cafĂ© is open from 6 or 7am every day (depending on the time of year) for breakfast and lunch and is also open for tea and coffee until late afternoon. Inside the cafĂ© there is a water machine so you can help yourself to chilled or room temperature water and grab a copy of the days paper. In addition to the menu there are a couple of cabinets with a range of muffins, rocky road, gluten free and other cakes. There is another counter housing a variety of savoury food. The seating for Clancy’s cafĂ© is mostly outside and has a selection of bench tables,
The Ponder Room
A friend and I dropped into Clancy’s Fishbar at City Beach and the first thing I noticed was the opening hours. The sign simply read ... ‘Open until sunset’. In an era where you're often surrounded by bicycle helmets, steel capped boots and mobile phone alarms, this freedom from rules was a joyous reprieve. I turned my phone to silent and felt my shoulders instantly sink from around my ears. Then I looked at the menu. Gone were the rigid groupings of entre, main, dessert, so too the myriad of confusing price levels. Instead there was one page outlining several options each $12.50. Simple.

Very relaxed dining style with picnic bench type tables and a bar seating area around the edges.  It is counter service in the cafe area so take note of your table number! Place your orders at the counter.
Queen Of Bad Timing
Most people in Perth have heard of Clancy's and it's association as a place to visit for seafood. For me, I always think of the Fremantle version - for my friends they often refer to the Cannington one. But I've only recently been informed that there is actually one not too far from where I live, over in City Beach. Cue the ideal place to dine at while one of my best friends, Carly and I catch up. The setting here is very beach shack meets fishing boat; the clientele perched high on stools or low on wooden chairs. It's loud and bustly and the staff are young but relatively attentive (though we were given water immediately... but never any glasses to drink it with). We arrive for an early dinner since I'm a bit on the feeling sorry for myself side after an epic night of drinking at Rottnest, which lazing on the beach during the day has only helped so much. The menu at Clancy's is quite large, with offerings from sea to land to everything in between. But after a night at the Rottnest Hot
Eating Perth
The steak burger was the worst steak burger I have ever had. I’m not sure what cut of meat was used but it tasted old and strange. The salad in the burger was boring and tasteless and the bun was burnt. Clancy’s should just stick with fish.

Food: Awesome and punctual.

The cappuccino was milky with a lovely thick layer of milk froth and plenty of chocolate sprinkles on top. The service this morning was cheerful and my order was delivered fairly quick. A breakfast by the beach surely beats a breakfast at my desk. Multigrain toast with house preserves Starting a morning at the beach is one of the best ways to mentally set yourself up for whatever the day may throw. The calm blue vista of the ocean, the smell of salt in the air and the physical space, those everyday stresses that consume our minds fall to the soft white sand.
Perth Munchkin
First impressions were that everything looked great! Ingredients all looked super fresh and were creatively presented. I couldn’t wait to get stuck in! We decided to be strategic about the order we tackled the dishes in and started with the hot seafood with the plan of ending with the salad.<br/><br/>So first up we tried the pan fried garlic + chilli marinated cuttlefish, piquillo pepper, quinoa + coriander salad, sherry vinegar, olive oil. Amazing! I haven’t had cuttlefish on too many occasions but essentially find it very similar to squid. It was cooked to perfection. Nothing rubbery about it at all and in combination with the flavoursome quinoa salad it was just a delicious balance of flavours. We both loved this dish and it definitely raised the bar for the next five.
The Breakfast Confidential
What was news to me was that the City Beach Clancy's has a cafe on the side serving breakfast overlooking one of Perth's best beaches. While the main restaurant is closed during day, the cafe is open pumping out takeaway coffees, meals and drinks to families, groups of friends and couples with their sandy Border Collies sitting patiently at their feet. There is plenty of seating to choose from - picnic benches perfect for sitting on with wet bathers or you can take a seat inside with a 180 degree view of the ocean. The line to order was LONG. It didn't seem to let up the whole time we were there. I really felt for the staff - they were getting slammed and not in the way you want on New Years Eve. The me
