Tak Chee House up towards the top end of William Street. Has been around long time – they serve Penang-style food and do it very well – this is a very popular and busy little spot and can be difficult to find a seat at times – arrive early is my tip. It is not large, with pretty basic furniture and fit out, but has very friendly and efficient waiters, and very swift service. The menu runs to Mee Goreng, Chicken rice, Kuay Teow, Hokkien fried noodles, roti canai and of course Curry Laksa which I reviewed after a previous visit.

When I am in town, this is one of my go to for hainanese chicken I normally asked for dark meat (thighs not breast) Absolute delish everytime. For a selective & picky eater like me, that's key to keep coming back.
In my opinion they have the best Hainanese Chicken Rice and best Char Koay Teow in Perth😂😂😂
Their staff was very lovely and friendly and they were able to speak my home dialect(hokkien) which I was quite surprised😂
The table ordered Chicken Laksa, Seafood Kway Teow and Satay chicken sticks to share. They ask whether we want spicy or not and I’m glad we said yes! Nice home style Malaysian, with super fresh ingredients. Not over the top more like Malaysian soul food that fills you and sends you home satisfied. Don’t forget to bring cash!
Really enjoyed the Hainanese chicken rice. Generous service of rice. Option to have breast or thigh, no bones. Always busy so service can be slow.
Ordered the hainan chicken rice and it is value for money. It comes with a bowl of soup, rice and big portion of chicken. Whats best, they even removed the bones from the chicken for you.
Love the chicken rice.. been the best so far in Perth.. the chicken was smooth and tender.. friendly staff and great service.. the only down side is no eftpos facility.
Quick dinner here and had laksa and combination crispy yee mee. Portion is very generous, taste is really good and the food came out really quickly and I always love their chicken rice so I’ll always come back for it!
This has got to be the best hainanese chicken rice in Perth! We had to wait for our table as it was so busy but the wait was worth it. Food came out super quick. Rice was soft and well seasoned. Chicken was delicious and so tender. The chilli sauce went so well with the dish. We were in and out within 15 minutes as we inhaled our food! Price is so cheap too! Highly recommend!!!
Yummy Hainanese chicken rice at a very affordable price ! Chicken was juicy, rice was nice and fragrant, and service was very quick. Only downside is that they are cash only. Would come back !
A small restaurant with decent affordable Malaysian hawker food. The staff was friendly and even provided my toddler a toy to play with while waiting for our food. We had the hainanese chicken rice with breast meat and vegetarian spring rolls. It was a good meal. I'd go back and try other dishes if I'm in the area.
A decent place for Malaysian Hawker style food, but the place does need a new, fresh look. Really enjoy the Assam Fish here; fish is crispy and the tangy tamarind-based sauce is delicious. Not a fan of their fried rice as the rice is a little too moist and clumps together, but chicken rice is pretty good. Chicken is moist and tender, and the rice has a nice fragrance, which you can also order separately as an alternative to plain white rice to go with other dishes. Stir-fry vegetable dishes are alright, though a bit pricey for the serving size given.
This place has good value meals in a convenient location. There's no mucking around here, staff are busy and it's a no nonsense environment where you have to fight the lunchtime crowd but staff are still polite and friendly. I was recommended to come here for a properly charry combination Char Kway Teow which it indeed was, however could have done with a bit more seasoning but otherwise well cooked. My friend had the chicken rice which we didn't know is traditionally served lukewarm but it was juicy and tasted good. Both were a good size although not quite as overly generous as other spots in the area - but it was still enough and I'd probably come back but try something else.

This place has a great reputation for Malaysian Hawker-style cruisine, mostly due to the lack of quality in Perth in the first place. Famous for its consistent 'Gai-fun' aka chicken rice they seem to fall slightly short in the other dishes.
We had the curry laksa, char kuey teow and mee goreng. Yes it does surpass Perth standards for hawker-style food but still not quite the same as back home as it lacks the 'kick' in taste. Last time I came here the curry that came with the roti canai was tasteless.
Having said that it Tak Chee does most things well. The noodles are never too hard or too soft and it is always served hot. Would suggest only the chicken rice for anyone who comes here.
Not quite the stand out Malaysian place I was hoping for but then again still the best we got.
Hands down the best chicken rice place in Perth.
Could literally just eat the rice by itself.
But that Hainanese chicken is amazing aswell and I've not been able to find anywhere else like it in Perth.
Its nothing special to look at which makes it oddly more appealing and authentic.
This is a favourite of ours and always hits the spot!!
Authentic chicken rice and tender chicken. Best Hainanese chicken in Perth but for the look and feel of restaurant, meals are grossly overpriced. More than $4 bucks for a small bowl of chicken flavoured rice! No credit card facilities even though its pricey.
Small little restaurant in North bridge. Great Hainanese chicken rice. Generous serving size and reasonable price. Chicken is soft and succulent. Rice is very fragrant. Love it
Old time favourite go-to for chicken rice and curry laksa.
Chicken were tender and juicy, and the chilli sauce goes well with it.
Laksa has strong coconut milk flavour, and pretty spicy. Great for cold wintery weather.
The restaurant was clean with friendly staff. Ordered two hainanese chicken and came out with in 10 minutes! Not the best hainanese chicken in had but it was fulfilling as u got a good portion of chicken.tHe chicken was very juicy and cooked well. The soy sauce that the chicken sits in was a bit to salty and the chilli sauce was to sweet! But all in all I left satisfied
Ordered take away, but have dined in before as well. Chicken rice is always the way to go. The go to place whenever I have a chicken rice craving
Tak Chee is a small Asian restaurant located along William St. It's two stores down from Good Fortune BBQ and very easy to find. Before you go further, it's important to know that Tak Chee only accepts cash as their method of payment. We forgot about it and had to find a nearby ATM at the convenience store (there's one just outside The Moon Cafe).
We eat here very often, this is a winner of a place. Come a bit early, they do sell out of the chicken rice. Ignore the interior and focus on the food. Steamed or fried chicken rice is a must order, rice is beautifully fragrant, chicken is tender (ask for leg/thigh > breast) and comes served on a bed of bean sprouts. The chilli is delicious. The garlic chicken is basically fried chicken pieces like karaage/katsu with garlic sauce, not recommended. Also recommend getting the loh bak- deep fried beancurd and crispy meat filled beancurd skin wrapped sausage dish. Laksa and hor fun is good too. Service is fast and efficient.
Just a note, takeaway serving sizes are a bit smaller, best to dine in.
Not too bad for the hainanese chicken rice I've taken away. But not very happy to see the wings with bones inside since I requested boneless thigh. Having a quick lunch out in the park and chewing off the meat from the bone is rather uneasy. Chilli sauce wasn't very impressive, I was expecting more "kick" in there.
So another takeaway Penang fried kuay teow for hubby. Portion was relatively small for a $13 and what's the most down side is the prawns are not fresh (they're even a bit soggy inside). :(
Review based on hainanse chicken rice ( steamed chicken rice) , best chicken rice in town so far!! Love it, chicken skin are soft and smooth, best to have it with the Chili and ginger ( not given ginger anymore) to cut cost maybe? Anyway, still the best chicken rice in town!
Great food! The chicken rice and curry laksa is my favorite, probably the best chicken rice in Perth. The quality is always consistent, and the price is reasonable.
They only take cash
This is a very traditional Malaysian comfort place. The menu is quite nice with enough choices for more visits. I tried the Yee Mee with chicken. The meal was delightful and not too filling. The sauce which was the most important part met my expectations. I feel like I need to come here a few more times to review the rest of the menu...
Tak Chee is a tiny asian restaurant on Williams street that has been a huge favourite of mine since I first visited it. About 15 visits later the quality is still there and the hype is well-deserved. Definitely try the garlic or fried haianese chicken with chicken rice because you won't get a tastier meal anywhere in Perth. Easiest 5/5 I've given.
A really really good CHICKEN rice in town! Tak Chee's specialty is in their affordable and delicious chicken. They have 3 different types: steamed hainanese chicken, fried hainanese chicken, and my favorite pan fried garlic chicken! Portion is big with only $16/$18 for half chicken and $28/$33 for whole chicken.
The downside is that there is not much decent alternative menu to the chicken (in case you go with your friends and you don't feel like eating chicken). I tried the seafood kuey teow but somehow found it rather tasteless. The vegetable (sambal spinach) was average. Also, the $4.2 for a bowl of hainanese rice which eventually added up to the overall price. Nonetheless, it is a decent place if you ever craving for some chicken rice.
PS: make sure u ask for the chilli for the chicken! It is really good. It is not that spicy and it adds so much flavor!
Tak Chee are most well known for their chicken rice and that's what I ordered today. Very fast service- food came out within 5 mins of ordering. Chicken breast was tender and the soy sauce it was steamed in had good flavour, and the rice was good too. It was crowded on a Saturday night and the place is quite small so it was lucky we had booked. The place itself is nothing fancy but food is good and cheap!
This is wonderful chicken rice! I normally order the chicken rice and a iced milo. The food comes out really quickly, literally as soon as I placed my order, the food had arrived! The chicken is so moist and tender and the rice is always good!
Hadn't been here in a while so when we needed a quick cheap lunch we came for a visit. Ordered the char keuy teow. It came out on a smaller plate than many Asian places but was tasty and hit the spot. Would have liked a bigger serve though. The garlic chicken was surprisingly delicious. I think next time I'll stick with the chicken rice!
This place was fantastic. I had the garlic hainese chicken and it was delicious. Make sure you take cash as they don't do eftpos- a quality feed!
I had the chicken rice and I have to say it's pretty good. Moist chicken, sauce is flavourful, rice fragrant. My partner had prawn noodle which is only available on Friday. He loves it and mentioned that it's the closest to the taste in Malaysia. Pretty good so far but not a fan of the Char Kuay Teow despite everyone recommending that. Then again taste is a very subjective thing.
Unfortunately I had to work over the weekend on a project but that meant after putting in some hours, it was off for a feed to replenish the energy levels. The talk of chicken rice at Tak Chee House got the nod so we took a leisurely stroll and were fortunate to secure the only empty table in the packed restaurant. A quick look at the menu and the famed chicken rice was chosen by all. You have the option of choosing breast or leg so I went with the breast. A bowl of rice cooked in the water used to cook the chicken is presented, the rice carrying a lovely flavour of the chicken. The tender succulent breast is presented, chopped into pieces, looking very plain, but paired with the soy sauce and bean sprout mixture, it comes to life. It’s a really delicious and also a cheap meal that was polished off and left us all satisfied.
My family used to love going to Tak Chee House all the time for their chicken rice. I haven't been here for years and years and decided to pay a visit the other day. I'm glad to say that nothing has changed. Their Chicken Rice is still the best in Perth for sure!
I love this place. Perhaps its the chicken rice, perhaps its the fact that I can get a Roti with it or maybe its the laksa? Either way its the first place I gravitate towards if I'm hungry in Northbridge. Cheap and cheerful this place has awesome food.
I think they sell the best Hainamese Chicken with reasonable price. we also tried one of the veggie (which was good) and the sambal fish which unfortunately lacked a bit of sauce. Food was excellent, service was good and quick, price was affordable. Definitely recommend this place!
BEST hainanese chicken rice in town. Everything else you can pretty much skip. Every now and then I stray and get stir fried noodles but they come out burnt or they're stingy with meat in them. Solid 4 for the chicken rice.
The roti conai with beef curry is absolutely perfect! This place serves up some real authentic asian food. The restaurant is limited for seating so get in early.
The missus and I can't get enough of tak Chee! Defiantly our default option for food joints, the hainanese chicken and rice shall I dare say, is hands down the best chicken rice dish in Perth. Good feed, good price and good people.
I always come to Tak Chee for their chicken rice (Roast version), Bak Kut Teh ( Wednesday only) and Fried Kueh Teow. Their chicken rice is the best in the West. Some Singaporeans even claim it to be better than Singapore. Big claims, my next goal is to try all the chicken rice in Singapore. I have tried most of the Fried Kueh Teow in Penang. Tak Chee is definitely in my top 10. 😋
I visited Tak Chee House on a Saturday night with my girlfriend, and we found it to be relatively busy. We ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice, Penang Char Kuey Teow and Roti Canai with Curry Chicken. The Hainanese Chicken Rice was the standout dish, as it had an authentic taste (according to my Malaysian girlfriend), was a generous serving and was delicious. The Roti Canai was a very solid dish, however the Roti is not hand-made and the serving is small compared to the large portion of curry provided. The Char Kuey Teow was the biggest let down. Considering it was cooked Penang style, we found that it lacked the distinctive fresh Penang flavour. Definitely give Tak Chee House a try, it is the most tasty and authentic Malaysian restaurant we have found in Perth, and is well worth the affordable price tag.
Comfort food !! Always consistent with their hainanese chicken rice and fried kway teow! And now back for more!! The service is adequate for where this restaurant is positioned in the market. The overall ambience looks more on the tired side. But the price is commensurate with all these factors. I should really try the other dishes on the menu!! Next time!
Spicy tom yum soup. Yeah it's getting to be that weather where one needs hot spicy liquid in ones face. Yum. Winter never tasted better
the hainanese chicken is very very good..not sure i can think of a better one in perth at the moment...love the infused rice too...very flavorful and delicious..!! never really dined in before, always gotten takeaways here but seems very busy all the time...
What you see is what you get at Tak Chee; cheap and cheerful Malaysian fare, however the value and quality sets them apart! The hainanese chicken rice is the obvious choice, but the char kuey teow and roti channai are also delicious. Definitely recommended.
After 2 years haven't eaten there, i would say that the taste is the same. Delicious food, fresh vegies and still the best char kuey teow and hainanese rice in Perth. The only difference is the portion. I found it's a bit less especially the char kuey teow. Yesterday we tried the prata n curry for the first time. Curry sauce without meat additional $3 so $7 for one prata and sauce. A bit pricey but worth it, the curry sauce was soo tasty.. Just perfect.
Stopped in for a quick bite late just before closing. We rushed hurriedly to our seats and ordered within 2 mins to get the last order to the kitchen. Everyone around me was having the chicken and rice. Of course I decided to order meegoreng (mild). Nothing mild about it - I would have loved some water but it seems everything was being packed up. Next time just get the chicken and rice silly!
Get the Hainanese chicken rice every time, can't go wrong! Nothing fancy at all, very basic, but very tasty. Best in Perth, we go every week.
Had the steamed hainanese chicken rice, and it was really tender and yum. I just wished their chilli was spicy, and not just sweet. Service was good, especially the lady at the counter.
Tuesday dinner... It was really busy night for them. We ordered curry laksa and pan fried garlic chicken. Laksa was beautiful, one of the best we've had, the chicken was crispy and lots sauce with it. Food was delivered in 10 mins even full house.
We visit this place occasionally, it never let you down. The service is not excellent but enough. Due to the size of the restaurant, it may be noisy and hard to hear from your mates if it is packed. Quick service, good food, that is all about Tak Chee house.
We have been here many times.
We always order fried hainanese chicken rice. When you eat this dont forget to add their special made chilli. After you mix it and eat it with rice..yummm...yummy..they are delicious..their chicken are tender and moist..it's just like chicken rice @hawker place in singapore..
In term of the price-They are reasonable.
The chicken rice was super yummy! Totally worth going if you miss having hainanese chicken rice and its probably the best chicken rice in perth!
Came here because I heard it had Perth's best Hainanese chicken rice and we were not disappointed! Ordered the Hainanese chicken rice and the Pan fried garlic chicken rice and both were amazingly scrumptious! Tender, succulent, boneless chicken served along a bed of flavoursome chicken rice. Definitely coming back.
More Than Nourishment

Hands down the best fried char kway teow and lo bak in Perth. Even though I asked for medium spice, it had a good kick to it. Yum! Only downside is they do cash only.
Love this place! Huge portions and so tasty, Tak Chee never disappoints when I'm craving for chicken rice. Every time I'm here, I'm in a dilemma - to get the chicken rice or try something new? The curry beef on rice is delicious as well! Don't expect much in terms of service. The people are great but it just isn't a place you come to be fussed upon. They take your order, serve you the food and work the till. If you want to be fawned upon, go find places with proper table settings and linen but you can be sure the food isn't anywhere near as good.
I went here for lunch and ordered penang fried kuay teow, loh bak, and roti canai with curry chicken.
Many would agree that this place does one of the best chicken rices in perth and I too would agree on this. Today however my experiences of the food I ordered was a disappointing one.
The portion sizing of the kuay teow was small considering its price. Although it was well flavoured and cooked, the prawns were not fresh and ruined the dish.
The loh bak was fair, though I remembered it to be better in the past . The roti tasted as if it had been reheated from the packet, but the chicken curry met its expectations. The chicken meat was falling off the bone and the curry sauce had the punch you would expect.
I feel Tak chee's standard had fallen today and that may be because I didn't order the chicken rice. All in all, based on my recent experiences there are other places to visit for authentic malaysian cuisine that would be as satisfying if not better.
Updated review = My wife and I went to try their Assam Laksa. Still the best in Perth we've tried so far! Roti still needs some improvement. Curry chicken still good as always. Rating increased from 3.0 to 3.5.
One of the best chicken rice places in Perth! Good value for money (only $10) and major pluses on how the chicken doesn't have any bone. Service is average but you wouldn't expect much in a hawker place.
Chicken rice here is probably the best you can have in Perth. Nice chilli sauce too. You would only disagree if u have been spoiled like me when I went to Singapore to try real chicken rice, but no where else in Perth will you get a solid experience here. Also tried the Char Kway Teow Penang style. Was a solid offering, differs from SG style in having no sweet sauce. While you don't get lala, they substitute with mussels, and they give you 3 nice well cooked prawns. Give it a shot, it's quite decent.
Let's be honest, no one comes here for the service or the ambience. You sit down, order, get your food in 5 minutes, nom and pay. You get what you pay for and that's quick but homely, authentic food. I've had my fair share over the years and I still think it's one of the better places in Perth for Hainanese chicken rice.

First time I came here I tried the mee goreng (because if there is mee goreng on a menu anywhere, I have to try it). I did not care for it. This time, I tried the hainanese chicken rice that everyone goes on about. It was delicious, but not super amazing. Has a subtle flavour, but the chicken was cooked well. The chilli that comes with it wasn't very hot though, which was disappointing. Nice and cheap at $10. The service was good, very quick.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST! Roti was amazing. Curry was amazing. Laksa was amazing. Kwea Teow was amazing. Service was fast and food was hot and ready for my belly! I highly recommend to anyone who loves Malaysian food. 10/10
Amazing food and really quick. Absolutely lovely service in a small and cosy setting. Must try the roti canai with curry! Also very cheap. Will definitely be making this place a regular.
Great Hainanese Chicken Rice and great authentic Malay in general.
Chicken rice review!. For those of you who likes the steam chicken rice, this place is probably one of the more reliable places. 9/10 for the chicken, 8/10 for the rice. 7/10 for the chicken rice chilli sauce (I know places which are a lot better). My only wish is that they add the pickled cucumber with the dish!
Great food, BYO, Cheap. I discovered this restaurant through a friend and since that moment we like to go there to get a nice Malaysian dinner for a reasonable price! We've never complained about the quality of the food and we try every time different things from the menu. Yes the place is a bit simple but it's BYO, with good food and cheap... What else do you need?
Amazing Char Kuey Teow. At $14.50, this has got to be Perth's most expensive Char Kuey Teow (seafood). What it lacks in serving size is more than made up for by the wonderful 'wok hei' which permeates every element of the dish. Tasty fried eggs, well cooked kuey teow and an assortment of seafood (clams, prawns, squid, octopus) make this Perth's finest Penang fried kuey teow.
Love the food. Always looking forward to go to this place. Beautiful cooked chicken and delicious foods
Best Hainanese chicken ever. I think the chicken would feel honoured if it new it was going to be cooked so beautifully. I mean. honestly. The best.
Good chicken rice, decent size serving and not too pricy. Definitely one of the best chicken rice places in Perth
Best chicken rice in Perth !!. Without doubt the best place to go for fried Hananese chicken rice. We have tried other places but nothing beats the chicken rice at Tak Chee and we keep coming back. The portions are large and good value for money. But get there early for dinner or you might be disappointed as they run out of it quite fast, being one of the popular item on the menu.
Cheap, delicious, no-frills Malaysian food.. Pros:
- I challenge you to find a higher quality lunch for $9.50, maybe the best chicken rice in Perth.
- Food comes out quite fast after ordering
- Fantastic Assam fish curry.
Cons:
- The Laksa is hit and miss
- You have to bludgeon through the service at times, not uncommon for a cheap joint like this. Speak loudly and clearly when ordering, and if you want something hot (spicy) say it like you mean it.
If you want to pay for smiles not food then this isn't the place for you.
Summary:
Some of the best Malaysian food in Perth for the right price, a gem.
Best Chicken Rice. This is not a flashy high end joint but one that serves home style simple Malaysian cuisine. The chicken rice is amazing and so are the handmade spring rolls. Always a favourite
I've only ever had the Hainanese Chicken Rice dish here and I love it! $9.50 for juicy chicken (yeah I know, it wouldn't be free range), broth, tasty rice and one of the better chilli sauce accompaniments I've had.
Top notch food at dirt cheap prices. A favourite destination
Awesome. Some of the best chicken rice in Australia, these guys know how to cook and the prices are very good. Get there
Awesome Malaysian. We eat here all the time, the food, prices and service are awesome. My favourites are the hainese chicken rice, roti canai and laksa. This place is an institution and never disappoints!
Love this place. One of our regular places to eat. Well priced and consistently delicicious. You don't go there for the decor - it's basic laminated tables, You go there for quick well cooked Malaysian style food. They do BYO. Definitely worth booking.
Best chicken rice in perth. The very best
Chicken NICE. Always my go-to for Chicken rice. It's so good every time! Singapore fried bee hoon is gooood too, as well as garlic chicken. Also sambal prawns with okra is nice! Ice white tea is good and kacang is ok!
Very nice!. One of the best chicken rice and laksa in Perth! Good portion and value for money! I will return again soon!!!!
Very good!!. My family and I visited Tak Chee on a sunday night. We went after seeing review on the West. And of course we had the Chicken rice (steamed). It was beautifully cooked and generous served on a boat shaped dish, complete with soup and bowl of rice. Restaurant was cash only and for a family of 5, it was definetly value for money. Paid with 50 dollar note and got change, that hasnt happened in a long while. Definetly be back.
One of the best chicken rice in Perth! Their noodle dishes are nice too, especially the Friday special prawn noodles, the soup is full of flavour!
Good food and good prices - definitely worth a trip. Chicken rice definitely not as good as Tian Tian in Singapore but you don't expect that either, and it is still good!
Amazing authentic Malaysian food! And the prices are VERY reasonable for Perth standards.
Best Chicken Rice!. This place has the best chicken rice! This is one of my favourite place for lunch on a weekend. I would always order the chicken rice. It's just the best.
Fried Chicken. Who do you have to be to order the fried chicken...??
I enjoy their running joke but would love to eventually try the elusive dish.
Great place to eat.
Satisfy the cravings. We came here often and we don't need to look at the menu to know what we want. it was so good and if you like chilli, it is a must try,.
Best Hainanese chicken rice in Perth. This place definitely has the best chicken rice in Perth, been here a few times and the chicken has always been consistently tender and flavoursome.
Good. First time here, didn't disappointed. Had laksa soup and sambal okra with prawns, both were good in flavors but half of the okra dish had just chunky pieces of onion. I want to come back and try others menu items. Big serves and really cheap, worth a visit.
Decent M'sian food. I've been to a few malaysian places in Perth, especially when I'm pining for a good curry laksa and the laksa at Tak Chee's is one of the better ones I've had so far. The Hainanese chicken rice is also good. A decent, no-fuss place that's good value for money.
Addictive. I like to vacillate between expensive restaurants and cheap but delicious eats. I honestly don't always think $$$$$ equates to taste, it depends on what you're expecting
Tak Chee makes some amazing and oh so cheap! meals. Roti bread, totally mouth watering; salted fish and chicken fried rice; Hainenese chicken rice; and the pork sausage in bean curd as an entree. The laksa is also amazing.
I generally roll out of here full, satisfied, and only about $20 down.
The Malaysian beef curry was a let down. But hey, that's one miss out of six isn't bad. The menu is large enough to offer variation over multiple visits, and specials on certain days.
One of my weekly favourites
Best Chicken rice in Perth. Title says it all. Great food amazing prices
Yummy... I had chicken rice today ...And the chicken just like how i like it to be.Remind me my home town chicken rice.Btw rice was not as good as i expected.
Chicken Rice Central. Tak Chee House deserves its reputation for serving up some of Perth's best chicken rice - or at least some of the best I've tried. And it sells 100Plus! A little bit of KL in the middle of Northbridge.
Awesome food, Malay beef curry with crispy roti was incredibly tasty. Pan fried garlic chicken and chicken flavoured rice was wonderful! Friendly service, we will be back!!
Delicious! Agree with everyone who loves the hainanese Chicken rice!
Ditto with all the comments about the Chicken Rice. Amazing! Arguably the most authentic Chinese/Malaysian food in Perth metro area but so is everything else on their menu. Great value for a quick or longer meals. Yum!
Best Chicken Rice. Loved our dinner tonight. My husband had the combination Laksa which he enjoyed. I ordered the 2 steamed chicken rice, one breast and one leg. I preferred the breast. the leg had a bit of sinew through it. I would rate this place a 10/10 if it had the ginger and shallot sauce that I like to accompany my chicken rice.
The best BBQ chicken rice. We tried other dishes, they are just ok. Our favorite is bbq chicken rice which the best in town.
BEST steamed hainan chicken rice in Perth, without a doubt. Cheap as chips, satisfying and nourishing. I feel like I'm at home in Penang every time I eat here.
Came with a group of six and we all loved the food. The restaurant was packed so we knew the food must be good. We enjoyed everything that was served including spring rolls, laksa, garlic chicken, chilli beef. Will definately be back. Yummo.
Chicken Rice. The Hainanese chicken rice is the best I've ever had, including in south east Asia. Service was efficient and courteous. Only downside was that the air conditioning was ineffective and we sweltered through the whole lunch.
Bloody brilliant. Best chicken rice in perth!!!
Penang char kuey teow is smokey and spicy goodness.
Spectacular food for an excellent price. I have to say that I've been going to Tak Chee since it was located up the other end of William St. The Hainanese chicken rice is to die for, but they do run out somedays, which is a blessing in disguise - as I would not have tried the myriad of other dishes on the menu. The laksa is flawless, and the daily specials are always interesting. A firm favorite, a bargain at twice the price and one of the standout places to eat in Perth.
A taste of home. Good enough to satisfy my occasional cravings for malaysian food
We go there all the time is we feel like a meal that's less than $10 and always satisfy us...the chicken rice is definitely the most authentic and best in Perth...love the laksa and bak kut teh...always order the sambal okra too!!!
BEST hainanese chicken rice in Perth!. This is a big call, but I'm making it anyway - Tak Chee House has the BEST hainanese chicken rice in Perth.
Being an avid hainanese chicken rice fan, I was very impressed by the large, succulent portion of chicken and perfectly cooked garlic rice, which came out in a very timely fashion. In a "modern" Asian restaurant, you would pay in excess of $25 for a dish like this!
Highly recommend this hidden gem. Going back tonight in fact...
The hainanese chicken and rice. Fried or steam it's awesomeness for your mouth.
We only go there for their Hainanese Steamed Chichen Rice. Delicious !!
Love the chicken rice and iced sour plum drink after a hard day's work. Sambal okra last time was better than kangkong today.
Best in Perth. This place is hands-down the best Malaysian place in Perth. The chicken rice is awesome, as is the Mee Goreng and the Assam Laksa which they only make on the weekends. Great satays too. And the roti canai is extremely delicious.
We've travelled alot through Malaysia and Singapore and this place is the real deal.
Best Hainanese Chicken Rice Ever!. Perfect hawker food, friendly service, great balance of flavour, moist, succulent, yummy. Enough said!!
Best Chicken Rice. Definitely the best chicken rice in Perth. We probably frequent this place once a week to get our fix. Food is great, service is good, and price is cheap.
Don't let the shop front put you off. The place serves great food!
This is our regular 'go to' restaurant when we're lost for ideas and want a quick and easy dinner. Always great food - and super cheap too! We usually get away with paying around $30 for the two of us. Don't let the basic decor and shopfront put you off! It's definitely one of our favorite spots in Perth!
Good Penang Char Koay Teow. Tak Chee House serves the most authentic Penang Char Koay Teow in Perth. Nice Ice Kacang too.
The best Malay/Singaporean in Perth.. Can do no wrong!! Everything on the menu is delicious and authentic.
Tak Chee is my go to destination for a quick, cheap and always outstanding meal.
Great!. I have been coming here for over 10 years, I made sure I tracked them down when they moved. This place consisistently delivers fast delicious food at an unbelievable price! Good work Tak chee!
Whenever you see cheesy wood paneled walls, and a distinct lack of shiny furniture, you know the food is going to be good. Tak Chee is outstanding, particularly the tamarind prawns and the chicken curry with roti. Awesome.
Simple Pleasure. When I was at Uni, $3 chicken rice was a staple food.
If I lived or worked near Tak Chee, the best chicken rice in Perth would become a major part of my diet again.
I'm glad I don't :)
Oh and it's more than the chicken rice that is nice there. :D
The curry laksa was very tasty. It could have been slightly more spicy but taste-wise, no complaints! I would come back again for it.
The best !!!!. Four of us ate here on Friday evening and wow. The service was magnificent and so friendly. But best of all was the delicious cheap meal it was very tasty and fresh. Quick service. Very mixed crowd which all seemed to be enjoying themselves too. Cant wait to go back
Tak Chee. After reading good review here, we went there 2 nights in a row to try several dishes.
We ordered chicken rice and fried chicken rice --> they're alright. Not as 'nice'as we imagined. Let's say we'd not go there for the chicken rice again.
We tried the Char Kuey Teow & Mee Siam --> oh these were good!! The char kuey teow was very spicy and had all the ingredients for a typical good char kuey teow in Malaysia (with the smoky flavour - they call this wok hey - the breath of the wok).
Mee Siam is spicy, very nice and authentic also.
We also ordered Har Mee (prawn noodle) which is available on Fridays only. You can taste the goodness of prawn in the stock. Unfortunately it's lack of spicyness from the sambal. I love my Har mee with a touch of spicyness with a full prawn flavoured stock.
We washed down these dishes with Ice Lemon Tea (freshly made, as they have some commercial lemon tea too) and Ice kachang --> both were ok.
Awesome and cheap!. This is awesome Malaysian food. Menu doesn't have much variety but all the authentic dishes you would expect from Malaysia is on the menu....plus minimal dishes on a menu makes it easier to choose.
They have specials on a weekly basis ... dishes that you wouldn't normally get in a Malaysian restaurant...ie buku teh - Wednesdays.
I come here for the chicken rice and ice kachang. Next trip will be on a Wednesday for it's special.
ps: They sell roti/curry...yummah!
Here you'll find the BEST Hainanese chicken in Perth. We have been going here since before 2006.
They do a mean sambal okra too. It's so good. Tak Chee is great for super tasty, affordable, and most importantly AUTHENTIC malay food!! (However the roti canai at Hawker's is nicer)
Great lunch. I was back in Asia today. Stinking hot and humid with a cyclone on the way eating fine Asian food at very reasonable prices.
I agree with everyone on the chicken, but I thought the sambal prawns with bean-sprouts was superb. It's actually prawns with okra (I normally hate okra, but this was the perfect vegetable to soak up a wonderfully fiery sauce).
The kids loved it too.
Love the hainan chicken rice. If you go to Tak Chee, their star attraction is the hainan chicken rice. More traditional people would usually go for the boiled/steamed chicken over the fried, I prefer the latter. They do a good ice kacang too, which is a malaysian desert consisting of shaved ice in rose cordial with grass jelly, nuts corn and beans... I'm probably missing something.
Avoid the "roti chennai". Good Kuay Teow and of course chicken rice as previously stated, by many others.
However, AVOID the roti chennai as it is really of poor quality, and appears as if they have literally grabbed one of the parathas you can buy in a bulk pack at the supermarket and deep fried it. Size is too small and not delicious.
The chicken curry provided was better in quality with a good rich malaysian chicken sauce, but the potatos were not properly cooked which was disappointing.
Excellent chicken rice, small restaurant though so be early. Ice coffee no good unfortunately but hey, just stick with the chicken rice and you'll love it.
Awesome Chicken Rice. After coming home from a holiday through Asia - I had to satisfy my South East Asian food cravings!
The hainanese steamed and roast chicken rice were fantastic - I'd say the best I've had in Perth. Reasonably priced with friendly staff makes this one of my Northbridge Favorites
Great chicken, good price. Enjoyed a very nice combination noodle soup with chicken and pressed seafood. The chicken was definitely the highlight, there was lots of it and it was juicy and tender.
Only downside was they seated me at a table facing the side of the drinks refrigerator.
The place isn't flash but the food makes up for the minimal decor and is quite reasonably priced. Am keen to try some of the dishes recommended by other reviewers but would probably grab takeaway.
A good value budget Asian eatery no frills
Best chicken rice. ever.. Yes 15 minutes ago I was sitting in Tak Chee enjoying most definitely the best chicken rice in Perth. It was moist, delicious and put quite the smile on my face.
If you haven't been.. you're missing out. Two thumbs up :D
Chickeeeeeeen!!. Their Hainanese chicken is the best in Perth so far! They also have yummy fried hainanese chicken.. for those who doesnt like the pale colour of a standard hainanese chicken! Yep.. their kway teow are also yummy.. when ur there dont forget to try their ice kachang!
Favourite simple dishes. Chicken rice and kway teow!
I was reccomended Tak Chee House for my favourite Malaysian dish, Char Kway Teow. I have tried this dish in many restaurants in Perth, and Tak Chee's is head and shoulders above the rest.
In short, the meals are pretty cheap ($40 all up for the char kway teow, roti canai, ice kacang and 2 teh tariks) and I think it's as close to authentic Malaysian dishes as you will find in Perth - unless you go to my mum's house! hahaa My recommendation would be to stick to the chicken rice and maybe the fried bean sprouts with salted fish and you won't go wrong.
Of course the dining experience wouldn’t be complete without dessert, we ordered ice kachung and it was a great ending to a great meal. I’d definitely recommend coming here again. There’s good service, reasonable prices and mmm delicious food.
You walk inside and it might not be much to the eye but boy does it smell good. Heavy scents of ginger and broth; spices and chilli. Its intoxicating and mouthwatering. Before you even taste the food you can see the eager gusto that all patrons are digging in with - and it makes you want to do the same.
After looking for an authentic Malaysian restaurant in Perth to try out we stumbled across Tak Chee House and decided to give it a go. It is located among other Asian restaurants in Perth and can be easy to miss but boy was it busy for a Sunday night. It looked like a simple cafe but it was clean, the waitresses were friendly and it was affordable. However, this place is cash only. We ordered Teh Tarik for our drinks, one hot and the other cold. The cold one was much better than the hot one. The hot one wasn't frothy and it also was a bit lumpy as it wasn't mixed well. The cold one didn't seem to have this problem. Chicken Satay The satay was cooked well. It was a bit thicker than normal but then again it makes up for the quantity as you get four per serve. You also get two slices of cucumber which I thought was a bit scarce but better than none I suppose. It was came with a peanut sauce which was light and smooth and you could taste the peanuts. Beef Curry with Roti Canai The bee
For all the fans of Hainanese Chicken Rice, this post goes out to you. My favourite spot to satisfy my chicken rice cravings is Tak Chee House in Northbridge...
I loved the entrees of lo bak and satay chicken which were full of flavour and tasty. The small sample I had of the char kuey teow was authentic and so too the ice kechang. I loved the crispy, flaky roti and wished I got served another but with the generous serve of chicken curry, I was stuffed. I enjoyed my meal and appreciated the friendly warm service. The bill did add up quickly so maybe a little bit overpriced. Cash only. Bookings essential.
I really enjoyed the steamed chicken which was moist, succulent and full of flavour. The chicken rice and broth were enjoyable too. I loved the been sprouts and the crispy bits of the salted fish. All that for $19 per head is excellent value with variety. Cash only.
When I want Hainanese Chicken Rice (steamed chicken rice) the first place i will think of is Tak Chee House in Northbridge.
I have heard a lot about Tak Chee House serving one of the best Penang Char Kuey Teow and Hainanese Chicken Rice in town, because of that it has been on my "To-Eat List".
