Review The Partisan Perth - Perth

Amar views
Beautiful location just next to the river. Loved the view. Coffees are great. Food is not bad. Orderd toast with fried chicken tasted good however the chicken was uncooked in the middle, informed the waitress and the replaced it immediately. Good music. Good spot for a coffee after morning or evening walk around the river.

Fantastic views and good food. Went for a late breakfast on Sunday. The place was very crowded and we hadn’t booked in advanced., but we could get a table inside. Despite being very busy staff were attentive, patient and efficient. Food was also very delicious. 5 star experience

What a splendid place to have a nice weekend breakfast, nice views of the river, boats moving by. Staff were nice and service was very prompt. Smoothies are value for money as I could tell they were blended with real fruits. Breakfast serving was generous and did not have to wait long.

I rate The Partisan. Great spot and they're very happy to accommodate the Beagle. Good menu that changes up often. Great spot for taking a walk around the river then include Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner as the reward.

We ordered coffee and cake for the afternoon. Beautiful view; coffee and food were of good quality on their own but 2 star for the service/overall experience.. staff was rude and minding her own business - didn’t seem listen to me when I made the order. Turned out the coffee was served quickly (as soon as we ordered) but cakes came in 45 mins later (considering they don’t require basically require preparation). Had to ask 2 times for the cake - by the time cakes were served we finished the coffee a long time ago.

Spent a lovely evening for dinner at The Partisan. I have always wanted to try this venue as it is always busy. The staff are very attentive and we didn't wait long to have our drinks and food orders taken. The food didn't take very long to be served. The portion sizes were plentiful and the food was absolutely delicious. The beef cheek ragu pasta was so tender and tasty! I will definitely be back and I would recommend booking so you don't miss out!

Lunch with a friend. Seated easily and scanned the qr code to order and pay. Much preferred over the queueing for some time at the counter method, but they also offer waited service for the more classic experience. Food was excellent, staff were friendly without being intrusive. Setting is lovely and relaxing. I was last here two years ago and they are massively improved. Looking forward to the next visit.

What better way to spend your Saturday morning chillin' with your missus down in the Claisebrook Cove with a decent cuppa coffee, if you can find a place to sit that is. Punters are already struggling to find seats outside by 9:30 in the weekends, unless you've made a booking so that might be a good idea. We could only find a place inside, which is also fine. I dig the food here though - a lot of points go for the taste and presentation. I'm not even necessarily a mushroom lover and I love the Mushroom Lover. The eggs benny are alright too. I really like the coffee served up here too, as it tends to be less milky than 90% of coffee shops around town.

Really enjoyed our day at The Partisan. <br/>A great variety of food, coffee and drinks with beer on tap and lunch specials they were still happy to cook after 5pm. Ordered the chilli mussels which was one of the best I’ve had. Plump, fresh oysters, cooked perfectly in a great sauce that we soaked up with garlic bread. Very accommodating staff and a beautiful spot by the water.

Awesome location with a beautiful view and a nice outdoor set up. Food and service are good. One of the best places in the area.

I had a delicious wild mushrooms, with poached eggs, avocado, asparagus, and hollandaise sauce - it was incredible! Lovely friendly service in a beautiful location.

Lovely restaurant close to waterfront amazing surroundings. Menu good nice service. Ferry ride near by to city of Perth city

An excellent location under a delightful tree with good shade and lots of umbrellas. You can choose shaded, filtered light and sunny tables. Lovely staff .... and best of all very good food at excellent prices. On a comparison with its neighbour Toast it is far better value for money, far better food and by a huge margin far better staff.<br/>Definitely one of the best waterside cafe resturants in Perth.<br/>Pete

I came here with my family mid morning on a Thursday. Service was friendly and prompt. We sat inside as it was a rainy day. They had heaters on inside, therefore it was rather toasty. I had an iced latte and a slice of the cookies and cream cheesecake. Coffee was ok. The cheesecake was rather average, and way too much gelatine had been used, so gave an unusual consistency.

I gave them 4 stars just because they make yummy chocolate drinks! We were not overly hungry to try their main dishes, just a quick bite of their chorizo appetizers. Very tasty, by the way! But this place had just an amazing view of the river, I love it. It’s a popular place for people on their way to watch the game. Excellent service from staff too. We’ll have to come here again next time to try their food!

Excellent and very quick with getting our order. Crowd there also. Recommended. Extensive menu. Great location to the city and views over the inlet. <br/><br/><br/>

Came here for Sunday breakfast, as you can imagine it was pretty busy. Saying that the service was very good and once ordered the meals came out pretty quick. Coffee was excellent. I had the breakfast burger and have been thinking about it all week- it was divine. Think Ill be back there this weekend lol

Came here for breakfast before work on Thursday... soo much quieter then the restaurant toast next door. The menu isn't as extensive but the presentation, serving size and quality of food is a lot better by my standards. The service was lovely and everything was just wonderful!!
Foodie In Paradise
Came to this cafe for a quick brekkie on a weekday morning. The cafe was still quite empty at the time. I had the coffee and the almond croissant . The coffee taste very average and I didn't like the croissant, it was not flaky and light as it suppose to be. Service was friendly but slightly overpriced. A croissant and coffee cost me around $12-$13.

Despite there being about 5 tables eating lunch, service was non-exsistant. Coffee came cold, asked them to make another and it came back microwaved, over-cooked and blisteringly undrinkable.<br/><br/>Lunch platter was good, but then again - if you stuff up a platter, you need to take up another profession.<br/><br/>Posted on Facebook and turns out at least another 4 people described exactly the same problems with this restaurant.<br/><br/>Don’t bother.
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
I came here for breakfast! It’s a funkie little cafe but the food was very average and very over priced for the quality !!!<br/><br/>I first asked if they could make scrambled eggs with soy milk and the waiter came back from asking the kitchen and the answer was no as they are pre made and packed :-( how hard the stick two eggs with soy milk whisk it and stick it in the microwave for 1-2 mins <br/><br/>So I ended up having poached eggs and one egg was perfect the other one hard ! The mushroom here horrible, I didn’t most of it. <br/><br/>The berry smoothie was the best thing! <br/><br/>Unfortunately I won’t be back to there how ever I will get the smoothie

Thr service was great and of course friendly staff who were super helpful. I enjoyed the view and the meal. Will visit again for sure. Thank you.

I brought a takeaway almond milk mocha here this morning on my walk around the river. It cost $7.50 (not large) and took about 10-15mins for it to be made. Lucky it tasted good but that price and wait was a bit ridiculous and why only 3 stars! I didn't try the food but they had delicious looking pastries on the counter and it is a beautiful location.... I guess I was paying for the view and busy location...

Eggs Benny was good but nothing special. Very nice setting. Could have done with more hollandaise sauce. Too many people are stingy with it and it's only egg yolk butter and lemon. Maybe they think that's enough and maybe it's enough for people but roughly 4 tblsp is not enough. Bread wasn't buttered so lacked some moisture but we got 3 pieces of thin bread which was nice. I'm a big fan of thick soft toasted bread but can't please everyone. Friendly staff and the poor guy there needs a hand. He was flat out by himself running the floor

This place is awful. Waited 30 minutes for our food to come, to be extremely disappointed. Our bacon was so hard and poached eggs were completely solid. The sausages were revolting, tough chewy and tasteless. Don't get me started on the bruschetta. A piece of sliced bread with sliced tomatoes and what then a layer of cheese which was not presented the way you'd imagine a bruschetta to look like. It was cold and the cheese had solidified making it actually sickening to eat. And to top it all off it was $80 for three breakfasts absolutely NOT worth your money.

Fantastic place for brunch, great view and atmosphere.<br/>I would rate the highest if the juices were a big bigger, it's too expensive for so little.<br/>

Booked a week in advance & requested a nice table because it was a special occasion - got shoved in the corner in front of a door. Medium steak was mostly red raw, the "salad" smothered in aioli which wasn't on the menu and definitely wasn't requested. Gnocchi was chewy and lukewarm. We went elsewhere for dessert.

The Partisan is a lovely cafe situated on the banks of Claisebrook Cove in East Perth . It is open daily from 7am till late . One can have Champagne with ones breakfast, if one so desires . Being a Resident of East Perth we go there often . We have had their breakfast ,lunch & dinner . I even had a special Birthday party there recently, which was a huge success . The Menu is eclectic though it favours the French cuisine somewhat . The choices are excellent .One can have as little or as much as one desires . Breakfast here is a treat .There is so much to choose from . On a fine day it is very pleasant to sit "al fresco " & enjoy the beautiful view over the water . Dinner in the evening is very romantic  especially on a balmy Summers night .I thoroughly recommend this  cafe with its lovely ambience . The wine list which also includes beer , spirits & cocktails is excellent. The service is friendly & efficient . Go there & enjoy .

Haven't been here in years and we were pleasantly surprised- food was fresh. Salad was nice with Beetroot and dried chickpeas. Green juice was bottled but great quality. The only negative was another person on the table also ordered a salad and they got the included broad beans but I got none. Staff were nice ✔️

Horrible service at this place! If you want to be fat shamed and judged by what you are ordering then this is the place for you! My partner and I have never felt so uncomfortable in a place to the point where we were considering leaving without our food. I certainly could not enjoy myself after the way the waitress judged my partner and I on what we were ordering. I am disgusted in their customer service. Only one of the female staff smiled the entire hour and a half we were there. Never again.

Very enjoyable setting. Beautiful scenery, near so much luscious greenery and the beautiful river. Very upbeat area. Can get quite busy. Menu is fantastic with very interesting choices. Wide range of breakfast selections. Plates and dishes are presented nicely. Quite willing to accomodate intolerances and allergies.
Billylamb
Coffee was OK. Chorizo was a bit greasy. You come here for the atmosphere and view rather than for food/drinks. Pleasant place to spend an afternoon.

My friends and I enjoyed a lovely evening by the water at the Partisan.  Service was quick and very friendly.  Food was amazing and plenty of vegetarian options.  Desserts - yummy!  Will definitely be back.
Truth Be Told Australia
Great location for a meal . Service was really fast and the meal time was super quick . Eggs cooked perfectly. The best field mushrooms in Perth and coffee was lovely. We were happy and full when we left this cafe 😀
Cjl92
Ordered the baby beetroot salad to have the cold mixed salad leaves thrown on the top and covered in dirt! Was given a new salad straight away which had been much more nicely made but definitely didn't make for a pleasant dining experience
The Critic
Nice spot for lunch on the east perth inlet, variety of food was good, i had the chicken sub which was nice but i think a little over priced for what u got, pumkin soup was good as well for half the price of the sub
The Go Go Mumma
We booked for an early dinner (6pm) And much to our surprise the restaurant was empty, however it began to slowly fill as our night progressed. Not quite sure what 'The Partisans' overall decorative theme is, the atmosphere was a little off, but none the less - The food was served hot and exuded lots of flavor. I definitely recommend trying their home made lemonade infused with rosemary though! We'll be back to sample their breakfast menu in the near future for sure.

One of my favorite location in Perth, so pretty, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and super tasty food. I keep on coming back, and always enjoy everything!
Food Feeds The Soul
Stopped for brunch after a walk around the river <br/>Had coffee and food for two people<br/>Food came out first and coffee about 5 minutes after. Almost think they had forgotten the drinks. Coffee was nice.<br/>Lamb sandwich is VERY SMALL especially for $19.50.. Very disappointing .. <br/>Have to pay $5 extra for chips if you want them too. <br/>I think it may be under new management, and it is no longer available in the entertainment book.<br/>Don't think we will be back any time soon

Mr. T gets the credit for picking the location here in East Perth. We had planned to go to Toast but the queue was very long and a further 30minutes for the food…I was just too hungry to wait. We got a table inside and had a look over the menu. A waiter came to our table and asked if we wanted water, we said that would be great at it was a warm morning but I ended up having to get it myself when Mr. T ordered as we were forgotten about.

Lovely place by the water in East Perth. Coffee is great and food is delicious. Couldn't ask for more after a run. Definitely a place to come back again and try different dishes.

The best breaky I've had in ages! I'm pretty picky and have trouble deciding on what to have so I loved that I could pretty much build my own breaky! Poached eggs on toast with avocado, fetta and roast pumpkin! My boyfriend had the full breakfast. The poached eggs were the best most perfect poached eggs ever! I tried some of his tomatoes and they were amazing, I don't know why because it's just tomato right, but it was so good haha! We both absolutely loved it! Lovely atmosphere and super friendly staff. You could see them all working well as a team together in the kitchen. All smiling but working hard on keeping the place running smoothly.<br/><br/>Unfortunately I'd already had a coffee before arriving so didn't get to try their coffee so will have to do so next time as I'm very fussy with coffee and haven't yet found one better than Ootong & Lincoln in South Fremantle. <br/><br/>Excellent place and whoever owns this place should be so proud of their staff and the passion that obviously goes into the service and food.
BZealot
The food is overpriced. I was not too impressed by a $17.50 smoked salmon bagel which was a palm size and looked flat (after being toaster-pressed obviously) and a hot mocha for $5.50. Guess the price included the view which is the only exciting part of this restaurant.
Asian's Taste
I came here and had my afternoon coffee<br/>and cake<br/>@this Occassion I had cappuccino and salted Caramel cake...<br/>The cake a bit dry..ice cream was nice <br/>Coffee is average..<br/>Location..excellent<br/>Customer service good<br/>

Came here for my birthday brunch with my family, I ordered the shakshuka and was very pleased with it. Everyone got their meals on time and no one had a single complaint. Was offered a very nice table with nice views, I prefer this place over the Royal now.
Lisa.molony
Great food and beautiful setting but slack service. Had to hail for service each time, and drinks service was never anticipated which is pretty poor. That said, it's a nice place to spend an afternoon and for roughly $30 a head for lunch, drinks and coffee you can't really complain.

40 guests at my wife's 40th birthday were well fed and watered. Partisan staff handled the night (a busy Saturday) effortlessly. Their service was seamless and nobody was left wanting at any stage. Wine and food was up to Partisan's usual high standard, and management was responsive and easy to deal with in accommodating all our pre-party requests.
Eatableperth
After a long walk with Ralf we swung by The Partisan for breakfast on Saturday morning. <br/><br/>We shared the crumpets which were served with strawberries Nutella, vanilla mascarpone and coconut chips and JR and I had our normal coffee orders of a weak latte and a large skinny cappuccino respectively. <br/><br/>The location of the Partisan is beautiful. It has great views and is lovely and shady. There is a canine hydration station so your fur friends are welcome. <br/><br/>I was a little surprised that the crumpets were just crumpets like you would toast at home but that is probably more about my own expectations. The mascarpone was lovely and a very nice addition. I would have loved a few more strawberries as there was only 5 pieces in the serve.

Here right now have not had anyone come to our table for sn hour. Dirty plates no alcohol and no water and its 32 degrees! The young male waiter has no idea at all forgetting our order and not listening to what we say. Food was okay. Would not return due to the very poor service.
Steve Fawcett
Just had the most delicious pork belly I have ever eaten. Great spot and friendly, attentive staff. Not my first visit and definitely won't be my last.
FLSWA
Definitely going for another try. <br/><br/>Went there for a late lunch. Lots of choices there on the pier. Very friendly staff and a quirky venue. <br/><br/>We shared the Rabbit and Rosemary Terrine. Was nicely presented and tasty for $11. We also shared the Chicken Parmi Burger w/Chips for $25. Burger was nice, thought the chips could have been more crisp and larger serve. We washed it all down with a carafe of Sangria which was disappointing for $40. <br/><br/>Overall, I would recommend you try, I will come back. <br/><br/><br/>Atmosphere: +1<br/>Food: +.5<br/>Price: +.5<br/>Presentation: +.5<br/>Professionalism: +.5<br/>Other: chips need to be crispier.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Gorgeous little European cafe on the water, quirky menu with non breakfast favourites so great if you want to try something different! The home made baked beans were delish! Good coffee blend and option to sit in or outside.

Went for breakfast this morning. Waitress was lovely and the food was just ok. Granola was sure sweet and food pretty oily. What really let it down was when I went to pay the little guy with ginger hair on the till was a total twat. I understand no split billing however when I asked him to open the till to change a $50 his response was no I don't think so, it says it on the bill. I then asked if he thought his attitude was acceptable customer service and he just sniggered. If you hate your job don't work in hospitality but I'm sure that's the only job he could get. For that I won't be back<br/>Standard earth bad service. Idiot
Master Roshi
Not impressed. Heard a lot about the place but it was nothing close to the actual experience. Was a quiet day with a steady number of people coming in. To get a latte for $4.00 with half of it with milk froth was not worth it. Food took about 20 minutes and to my surprise it would have taken less than 5 minutes to prepare, into the oven and out by 10 minutes. Sorry Partisan, just not your day...
M Carmody
I was somewhat disappointed by the partisan<br/>1. If you charge that much for a coffee, you should use better beans that vittoria<br/>2. I think it is very poor customer service to refuse to change fried eggs to being scrambled eggs when this is an option that is offered elsewhere on your menu.<br/>3. The crumpets that you served where stale and dry, with only a stingy amount of sauce<br/>4. Charging $4 for a fruit drink that comes out in an oversized shot glass should not be described as a special.
Lisa Cunningham
The mixed board to start was nice. But the lamb (moroccan) was a tasteless and watery stew. The pork belly had no crunchly crackle. Bland. Lacklustre. Wouldn't go back.
Chantelle Hiley
Warning: the one pan breakfast does not come in a pan. My husband was so disappointed. Such an average big breakfast was served. I ordered the courgette however which was delicious - needed to be served on a bigger plank or plate though, it was so hard to keep the food from going on the table.
Kat Dumont
Delicious food, great menu - especially the all day brunch options - and an even better view! Have been to The Partisan time and time again and always had a great experience.

Good brekky and I had one very good Mocha but too variable. Had another mocha on same visit and it was like it came from another planet!? Hopeless! The scrambled eggs were nice but, giving me butter in those little packets to put on them when the toast is already covered in egg is just stupid and, frankly, Dome-like. Next time I went eggs still good but Mocha cold and tasteless. <br/><br/>Ok I've been back again and I'm afraid they've lost it now. Scrambled eggs were like a smashed omelette which shows a lack of care. I tried to order iced mochas with cream and icecream but, guess what? They don't do cream and icecream in them anymore!? They only do caramel in them!? Wtf!? Caramel!? You've blown it now slackers!

Him Indoors and I visited for a casual Sat dinner. You can't find it from the street...you have to go down to the waterfront. <br/><br/>They couldn't find our booking at first despite our only having run about two hours prior but they did seat us. <br/><br/>For the size and style of restaurant it's a bit overpriced but we did enjoy what we ordered.
T-M@c
Ordered sourdough toast with poached eggs and avocado.. received plain white toast with no avocado. Overpriced. Won't be going back anytime soon.
Pam
First time at The Partisan, and I could not fault the food at all. I dine out multiple times per week and I was most impressed with the menu, and how great every dish tasted. That night I ordered duck liver parfait with pine nuts, corn and shredded chicken soup, pork belly (amazing), vanilla creme brûlée, and ginger pudding. I must say I had low expectations after seeing that the restaurant was only half full on the Saturday night we visited, and I'm not sure why that was, maybe the cold weather outside at the time. Seats were not so comfortable and venue was a little cold but those were my only faults. I dine out at least twice a week to tapas restaurants , and this is now my new favourite!
Matthew Ng
The most overpriced and tasteless food and drink I've had in Perth. Would never return. <br/>
Allisonrlayfield
The food is pricey for what you get. The service was apathetic and they were particularly unaccommodating when it came to substituting items on the menu for vegetarians. I ended up with a really expensive breakfast that was fairly nice but nowhere near worthwhile for the money and ambivalent nature of the staff. I wouldn't go back but would always go to Toast next door.
Jannaheb
A little on the pricey side but you can tell the food is really good quality and some of the bigger dishes are enough to share. We had the salmon and gnocchi and it was absolutely delicious. The desserts, the $4.50 ones, were very small and not really worth it.
Comment Mike
Great spot for a sunny breakfast. On the waterfront is very nice. The location is everything here. Been many times and generally happy with food but the service can be patchy. If you can't get a table when you go the Royal insect door and they are good too if they are open that is.
Pris
Great view, fast efficient and very polite service. <br/><br/>Food portions are on the small side, expensive and slightly average. <br/>Fish and chips came in a silly sieve with small fritter/nugget like fish and fries. If you spread out the food on a plate it really was a very measly portion (average tasting too). <br/><br/>the rest of the food were ok to slightly above average. Sent back a stale pastry but it was replaced promptly (the service is good, you see). <br/><br/>i found the prices quite high for what it was worth <br/><br/>Perhaps I came on a bad day ? <br/>Wont return except for the view and when there are no seats available at Toast.
Chihiro
Visit the partisan for breakfast and I was not impressed with the food .<br/>Very price and low quality food however service was ok .<br/>I won't go back !

Aggressive and unpleasant service. My wife and I visited ‘The Partisan’ 22/60 Royal St, East Perth on 6 May 2015. It was our second visit as we had previously enjoyed a meal here and decided to return. There were a handful of customers at one table having evening drinks and other than that, the restaurant was empty.<br/><br/>We arrived at around 5pm and planned to have a bite to eat and a couple of glasses of wine. It did not start well; as we arrived at the desk, the waiter pulled out his mobile phone and walked away leaving us feeling rather awkward. A waitress filled in and showed us to a very nice waterside table and took our drinks order. The drinks arrived promptly and as she handed us menus, explained the kitchen would close for 30 mins at 5:30pm to allow them time to set up for dinner. This was fine by us; we had almost 30mins to order some starters, so we could eat tapas style. She confirmed this would be fine and left us to choose.<br/><br/>Our waitress did not reappear and although there were several other staff members, nobody came anywhere near us for the entire time. (We assumed the kitchen had, in fact, already closed and they did not want us to order – but we could be wrong). To be honest, we weren’t that bothered and decided not to go and find someone.<br/><br/>At 5:30 a waiter came over and asked if we were staying for dinner. We said that we didn’t have time for dinner and were a bit disappointed that nobody checked on us to take our order earlier on. He shrugged his shoulders. My wife commented she thought it was sad to miss out on an order. He replied “Don’t worry, I’m not sad about it at all”.<br/><br/>We finished our drinks and went to pay the same waiter. I will do my best to reproduce the conversation as honestly as I can.<br/><br/>Me: Did you find out what happened to our order?<br/>Waiter: “You didn’t order anything”.<br/>Me: “Yes I know, we would have liked to have ordered something though, what happened”<br/>Waiter “I don’t know, I think the waitress went off shift”<br/>My wife: “Was there no hand over”<br/>Waiter “So, you want to run this restaurant now do you”<br/>My wife: “Er no, just a bit surprised there’s no handover so you don’t miss out on orders”<br/>Me: “We appreciate thing go wrong sometimes, but an apology or explanation from somebody would have been a nice gesture”<br/>Waiter “What do you want me to do, get down on my knees and apologise to you?<br/>Me: “No, but now, I would like to establish what happened so I can write up our experiences here”<br/>Waiter “You can’t write a review; you didn’t have a meal”<br/>Me: “I can’t write about the food because we didn’t get any, but I can write about the service and the attitude of the staff”<br/>Waiter “So, will that make you feel good about yourself? Are you trying to get the waitress into trouble? (He pointed to a corner table where our waitress was having a drink with friends).<br/>At this point I said. “Ok, that’s enough, I think we are wasting our time here”<br/>Waiter “Yes, you are both a waste of time”<br/><br/>I noted the bill was incorrect (but in our favour) and we left.<br/><br/>It’s hard to imagine a worse experience. We genuinely felt threatened by this waiter who was very aggressive towards us. We hope, the owners of this restaurant, will read this review and look into this.

I just don't understand the bad reviews for this place... Went today for breakfast with a big group of girls and every single one of the meals were amazing! Highly recommend the Continental Breakfast!
Nedelec.nicolas
So lovely!. We were just wandering around the Claisebrook Cove and decided to stop at The Partisan, located right on the waterfront. Their drinks list is very interesting, and you can tell the bearded guy knows about his wines, so after few glasses we started to get hungry and got a Tapas Board, which was huge and really tasty. All together we stayed much longer than expected, but it was a really good experience, and we'll do it again!
Cyrena Wolzak
Not good. We went with an open mind after reading the bad reviews, unfortunately they were correct.

Amazing brunch. We came over for brunch today and had the sauted mushrooms and the smoked salmon benedict, and it was great. Mushrooms were very tasty, they came with some brioche and yummy french cheese, and the coffes were smooth like no others. And the location is amazing, with tables right on the waterfront. We'll definitely be back
James_sb
Amazing dinner!!. I came here for dinner the other week and it was really good. I had their lamb gnocchi and my partner had a porterhouse steak. Waitstaff were very friendly and loved to chat about wine. We'll be back!
Helen
Where is the duck?. The menu looked great but all of us were disappointed with our meals. If ever a location overwhelmed and a menu underwhelmed, it's this! The confit duck was unrecognizable in a soggy bog of puy lentils. The fish was overcooked, the pork belly was dried up. <br/>Service was poor. We had to get out of our seats to alter the waitress to ask her to take our entree's back tot he kitchen.<br/>Sack the chef and tell the wait staff to wake up.

Alex. It is an absolutely terrible service and food. OOOOOOOver priced as well.<br/>Furniture is ugly and broken, the waiter said I must pay for everything BEFORE she will serve me! What is that???<br/>These people just do not care about nothing. NEVER go there again.
Ana91
Bad service. It took them about 15 minutes to clean up the table we sat at which was full of food and dishes from people before us and it wasn't even that busy. When the girl was cleaning the table she sprayed the cleaning chemicals right into my tea and did not even apologise or offer to exchange it. I did not end up drinking the tea I paid for. The staff is very dull and unenthusiastic. Might I also note this is my second time there and both times it has been like this. Never going back again.
Perth_local_eats
I had pork belly. It came with capers and anchovies which weren't on the menu. Strong flavours, not great. Lovely location but has really gone down hill

Wobbly Chairs & Overpriced. Beautiful location, but the quality of their chairs and tables really lets them down. I was actually surprised that the chairs held :) If you weigh more than 40kg prepared to be nervous when sitting down. They are VERY wobbly! Food was OK, but expensive. The biggest disappointment was the "house tea". We bought a "jug" of it. It was very expensive and the "jug" was an open mouthed jar holding about 700ml. The sign said it was "green tea with pineapple and grapefruit", but the "tea" just tasted like very watery raspberry cordial and was bright pink. I couldn't taste any tea, any pineapple or any grapefruit. I was very very watery. We asked if perhaps we had been given the wrong drink, and the lady went and checked and came back to tell us that it was "OK". We were also disappointment that they had such a large public holiday surcharge!
Jen
Terrible Service. We had arranged coffee and a catch up there with school mums. I popped to the ATM on the way, as the kids had cleaned me out for school lunches, so just had $50's. I went to the counter to order a coffee but she said we could not purchase drinks individually and they would only bill the entire table and we had to split the bill, which of course I couldn't do as I only had notes. I said that I could put a coffee on my card if that would help, I didn't want to use all of their change, but they said no so I couldn't get a coffee at all. A friend ended up buying me a coffee. It isn't as though we were ordering meals, it was only coffee. Terrible service, I am never going back there. Plenty of places to have coffee around.

Wonderful service, beautiful location, great food. We had a family dinner at partisan tonight and were thrilled with the experience. Service was lovely and the chef even allowed one of our guests to make a special request to suit her requirements. Food was experimental and creative. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to the staff.

Work Xmas Lunch. While it was an extremely hot day (39) and so quite uncomfortable to be seated outside, I felt the food and service provided today was tasty and efficient. The wait people were very busy but were always polite and helpful . The food was from a set menu selection but appeared to meet the needs of a fairly large group. I ate the asparagus and avocado salad and flourless orange cake both of which were very enjoyable.<br/>I think it would be good if Partisan could adopt the mist cooling idea of its adjoining restaurants to provide a more comfortable outdoor setting for its patrons.

So they advertise lunch starting at 12:15pm. Tried to order lunch at 12:15pm and was refused. Not a good look

What's not to like :). Stayed in East Perth for the weekend and ate at The Partisan three times.... Beautiful spot by the Cove. Some really great flavours on the menu especially the Duck & Pear Tortillas and the Roast Beetroot Salad. Service not too bad but food did take awhile to arrive. The carafe of Pimms went down particularly well.... Only downside was the coffee which was very average compared to Toast next door and the mushrooms at breakfast.... tasted like they'd been stewed in oil... Mushrooms need to be cooked in butter and garlic with plenty of seasoning!!!

Larder board fan. Fabulous evening. Went to The Partisan for a birthday dinner and was not disappointed. Great food and attentive staff, and the location is lovely - provided lovely scenery for the evening walk we needed to settle our full stomachs after a huge, delicious dinner.

Pleasantly surprised. On a lovely Spring morning, a perfect breakfast location. A bit wary because of other reviews but the food was good, staff very attentive and friendly. Some serves are way too big (no wonder we're a nation of fat people). I'd recommend sharing the big breakfasts. My coffee tasted like nectar by the time I got it.

True to form, restaurant with amazing views in Perth delivers disappointing food. Service was polite but waited 25 mins for a coffee and food was very poor quality.

Delicious breakfast. Great location overlooking the canals of East Perth, but first class breakfast! We hardly waited 10 minutes for our breakfast to come out. Fantastic presentation, you can see everything was freshly prepared. Energetic and efficient staff, delicious coffee topped with a wonderful varied menu, what more could you want.<br/><br/><br/>-----20 Oct, 2014-----<br/><br/>Great breakfast spot. Staying at the Sebel Residence this was the obvious choice for breakfast. Great location overlooking the river, small and personal. Delicious breakfast - continental breakfast had a bit of everything, very clever. Fresh fruit juices rounded off our breakfast. Parking nearby is limited.

Really disappointing... Not only did the Moroccan spiced fish and chips cost 27.50, the service (cleaning, water, checking on tables) is non-existent. <br/><br/>The fish and chips was not only a sad display of two small sticks of fish amidst a sea of boring wedges but what happened to the style and suave of this place? Now it's just another over-priced, lacklustre outlet that doesn't even try to make a good impression. Sigh

The one pan breaky is a hit!. My partner and I dined in for brunch over the long weekend, I ordered the one pan breakfast and he ordered the egg benedict with a side of bacon. Although his eggs benedict was a little sad looking, my breakfast was huge and so after pushing the mushrooms, a few sausages and a tomato on to his plate things looked a little more filling for him. A chilled atmosphere and a cool venue looking over the water in East Perth. We dined here because of the entertainment book and would come back but only for the one pan breaky in order to get our money's worth
MissA
Overpriced. The food is good, but the serves are ridiculously small - $8 for 4 tiny pieces of sourdough is expensive even for Perth. Great location for a Sunday lunch, but a more reasonable tapas menu would be good.

We were originally going to eat at Toast but couldn't be bothered waiting in the line, so got some breakfast from here. It was totally worth it, the coffee was delicious and the continental breakfast was perfect. I would definitely go back.

By far the worst dining and customer service I have EVER encountered. Would advise people to never go there.. My friends and I, five of us in total went here yesterday morning (Sunday) for breakfast. It was busy enough but not full. We ordered our breakfasts and sat at our table outside. After waiting ten minutes one meal came out. Ten minutes later another three arrived. I advised the waitor ( who could barely speak English) that I was still waiting on mine - a toasted ham cheese and tomato sandwich). He said he would go get it. Another 15 minutes passed and after waiting very patiently (all of my friends ha finished their meals by this stage) I called the same waitor again and asked where was my order. Again he said he would go get it. Another few minutes passed and this waitor was walking around other tables but had not come back to me or brought my meal. By this stage I was getting annoyed and was starving. I went to the cashiers desk where I had ordered and spoke to the brunette haired man. He too said he would check. I Waited another ten minutes and still no one had come near me or brought my meal. I said it to the original waitor and he went in again but came back outside but not to me. After another five minutes I asked a blonde haired lady and explained the situation saying that the service had been terrible and i still didn't have my food. She apologized and said she would check. She came back with my toasted sandwich but it was not what I ordered !!!! I told her and she said she would bring it back. At this stage I asked to speak to the manager and said I wanted my money back. Ten minutes later the guy at the till came over and said is there an issue ??? I said yes, this is absolutely ridiculous we have been here for nearly an hour and no one had checked for me or communicated any delay and I said I wanted a refund. He walked away and came back another 5 minutes later and what happened next absolutely shocked my friends and I. He walked to the table SLAMMED down my money and said "here is your money back" and stormed off. I was absolutely shocked and disgusted with his behavior and attitude. The table next to is even said that is ridiculous carry on and they would be also making a complaint. At that stage we left as I was fuming and still starving. <br/><br/>I will tell everyone I meet do not go to this restaurant. I cannot believe the horrendous levels of service but the absolute cheek of the guy to come over and act in such a way. I have never been treated so rudely or badly in my life. This is the first review of a restaurant I have ever done but if it prevents anyone else from being in this awful situation, it will be worthwhile. I was never rude - quite the opposite in fact politely asking where is my order. This guy should NOT be working in a customer service job, or any job for that matter.

Terrible food. My partner and i went to the Partisan for a last minute date night. The service was great but the waiter a bit awkward ... The food however was I'm sorry to say but terrible ! You could tell that no love was put into the cooking , no skills shown and my entree tasted a bit off . I don't think we will ever go back .
Eating Out
Excellent. Service was fantastic. Food excellent. The menu isn't that extensive for either the food or the wine but they do have a blackboard special. The restaurant was full with couples and groups for Saturday night dinner. We had the Larder Board which had a big selection of different foods and it all tasted fresh and really good. We both had the pork belly and it was divine. Great crackle and the meat just fell apart. I loved the roasted beetroot and goats cheese that it was served on. It complimented the pork and pears very well. Great location on Claisebrook Cove right on the water. It was cold and wet on the night but if you do have to sit outside they do give you blankets. All in all it is an excellent restaurant and we will return.
Bloomer83
Romantic indeed! Great service. Yummy food! Loved the dessert - rhubarb, ginger pudding with the caramel! Definitely will come back :)
Food For Thought..
Lovely views here at the Partisan. Service for a weekday breakfast was excellent too. The jerez eggs were amazing but my only criticism is that it was a bit on the small side. The ham and Swiss cheese croissant was also lovely as well, and very fresh. Coffees were very good too. I look forward to coming back again.
Nope
Lovely on a Winter's evening. After reading the other reviews I thought The Partisan may be a bit hit and miss. But it was a hit for us. We were greeted by a delightful French waitress who was wonderful throughout the evening - always smiling, accommodating, helpful... such as bringing our lap blankets at the end of the evening as we chose to sit outside. The larder board, whilst not innovative was a great as an entree for sharing and featured many comfortable ol' favourites. For main I had the pork belly and it was a just fine - loved those preserved pears. Overall it was acceptable value for money, lovely setting and good service.

Food wasn't worth the 40 minute wait. Nice location though
Perthgirl0310
Pleasantly surprised!. My partner and I were both sceptical to try this restaurant, given the average reviews on here. However, after being coersed by friends we decided to give it a go. We had a very lovely evening - we had a pasta dish and steak and both were really delish. Our waitress was super helpful and always smiling, too! We'll be back :)

Waited over 45 minutes for a coffee and it wasn't even a busy morning. Staff are extremely rude and the manager was abusive when we followed up the order.
Sabri_cherie
Very nice dinner. Great experience altogether, good food, friendly and smiling staff, beautiful dinning room. Would recommend the larder board and the lamb rump. Will be back soon
Budafour
Delicious and friendly. Enjoyed a relaxed and delicious dinner with friends here last night. Staff were friendly, although a bit confused as to who was looking after which tables I think. Larder board was a lovely start. Two pork bellies, one lamb pasta and one chicken - all delicious, although chicken a bit overcooked for the diner. Reasonable price, good selection of drinks on the menu and enjoyed the entertainment book discount as well. The restaurant wasn't too busy which was nice, a great vibe. I'm sure we'll be back some time.

Amazing. Great food, great service, great location, well priced. Awesome.

Nothing special, very underwhelmed by their breakfasts! Have tried it 4 times as it's just down the road from us and easy to walk to when we just want to eat breakfast out. But the food takes ages to come out and it's very average at best!<br/><br/>"Toast" next door is better
Pauline
Very unhappy. 15% surcharge over Easter, don't mind paying if food is acceptable. My fruit toast had melted cheese on it, obviously left over from the grill. My long macchiato topped up was no bigger than an egg cup and the coffee was vile. My daughters order eggs ben and the ham was so dry it could not be cut through and un edible. Will not go back, only went this time as Toast was busy
Charlotte
For a restaurant with a stunning view, and who advertise as being European, we had the most boring roadhouse breakfast in a pan this morning. C'mon chef, this was the standard of a basic at home breakfast!
Chonie
Absolutely DISGUSTED with the rude service myself and other patrons around us received today. Good Friday at about 3pm so it was after the lunch rush. <br/>Firstly- $18 for three tiny coffees with a 15% surcharge which I was told the staff don't receive much of it. They have a small incentive to work the public holiday. Lining the owners greedy pocket perhaps?<br/>Secondly- no one cleared our table from previous customers dishes, so after 20 minutes I thought I'd help out and take the dishes in myself. I'd worked in hospitality a few yrs ago and I know I've appreciated that in the past. Upon arrival I politely asked if I could pop these dishes down somewhere to help and I was scolded "what table are you from? No you're no helping. Take them back because they are in the way here can't you see. We are very busy!"<br/>Shocked I returned to our table pretty shaken from the scolding Id received by this brunette haired man with a beard in a blue stripped shirt.<br/>After waiting 30 min in the sun a shady table opened up so we moved tables. I purposely went up to the maitre d and explained we had moved tables and watched him write the details on our docket.<br/>When our coffees finally came out, the blue stripped shirt man looked at the previous table, looked at the docket, looked at us, saw it was me and went to take the coffees back inside!<br/>This forced me to embarrassingly yell "coffees over here!". As he stormed over he scolded us again that we'd moved tables but I quickly corrected him saying I informed the maître d and watched him correct the docket. He grumbled and walked off.<br/>I then noticed a table of 3 girls also tried to clear their own table and were scolded in the same manner. He made them actually carry all the heavy plates back to their table, escorted by himself, and once there he took the plates with him! Wow it was just so unbelievable!!!!<br/>We had a guest over from Sydney, first experience of Perth was the partisan and I'm so upset that this was his first insight to Perth cafe culture :(<br/>Never again! The view isn't worth the horrible service and overpriced menu.<br/>As I work in the area I will be publicizing my review to everyone and every business in the area because this was atrocious!
Foodlover1
Terrible food. We went to the Partisan and to start with the tables were so sticky and dirty i didn't even want to put my arms on the table because they were filthy. The schnitzel sandwich was terrible, way too buttery and chicken wasn't fresh. we also ordered the chicken pasta. The pasta was hard and there were so many pieces of chicken cartilage it was disgusting. <br/>On top of that the service was none. We had to get the menu ourselves and order at the front and was still looking confused where to order and who to order (as no one said hi or anything). At the end, we were going to order some desserts, thankfully the only one staff (I think he was the bar or kitchen staff) who was very helpful explain all the desserts. He was the only helpful person at that time. Overall crap lunch. (pardon the language).

Is hot toast too much to ask?. I've really tried to like the partisan, I have. It is in a convenient location for me (close to work), has a good amount of well spread out seating and has a nice view of the river inlet.<br/><br/>But after giving this place a number of chances, I'm done. This morning I ordered bacon and eggs on toast. It was $18.50, the bacon and eggs were fine, but the toast was cold (as usual) and unbuttered. It was basically a couple of stale bread biscuits.<br/><br/>The service is usually good, and the guy down there is always pleasant, but whoever is making the breakfast isn't much chop, and whoever is setting the prices just doesn't care about providing any sort of value for money.<br/><br/>So long Partisan!
George Buckley
The Partisan is in a great location with good service. However I felt that they should ban MAMILs ( Middle aged men in Lycra) who were riding through to other venues.<br/>The poor wait staff had too look out every time they came out to present food.<br/>If they stop the selfish, sweaty, old men from riding through it may go to another level.<br/>George Buckley

Expensive breakfast. My husband and I had breakfast here as Toast next door was full. Ordered one big breakfast, one dish of poached eggs, tomato and bacon and two small coffees $53.00. Bread was cheap tasteless hard sliced toast. Not very hard to get good bread these days and would have improved dishes considerably. Eggs average. Could do so much better. Lovely location which is not enough to get us back there in a hurry. Shame.
BrainyLizard
Very pleasant.. What a lovely spot to sit by the water in Claisebrook and enjoy good food and drinks.<br/>The Larder board is chock-full of tasty treats and is great value at $32. It makes a perfect shared entrée.<br/>Mains were generous and delicious.<br/>Quite happy all round with our dinner here. It wasn't our first visit and won't be the last.
Gabi
I came here for breakfast today and had to wait 25min in line to order. The cashier had no sense of urgency and you guys have an extremely inefficient process. It should be simple, as it is a standard part of your business. <br/>If you don't improve this, people will just walk next door... I will definitely not be waiting again.

Please change staff member taking orders at till. There were only six people ordering before us and it took her 24mins to get through them all.<br/>Totally unacceptable and outrageous.<br/><br/>From one angry Shazz

Worst ordering system ever. .... Worst ordering system ever.<br/><br/>Got a table, then had to wait 25 minutes in line just to order my food.<br/><br/>Everyone else queuing could not understand the long wait. <br/><br/>Almost left and went next door.

Dirty. Horrible food. Disgusting coffee. Terrible serive. Health inspector needs to shut this hole in the wall down.

Situated in the beautiful East Perth waterfront, the partisan has a lovely ambiance and a decent looking menu. However it did not come through with the goods. I ordered the mussels which were tasty, but very small and had many empty shells. A side of chips which came with the mussels were ok but a strange match. The aioli was yum! I also ordered a Bloody Mary which was warm and lacking any punch. When complaining about the mussels the waitress was accommodating but denied that there was mussels missing, I did get to choose another menu item and chose the beetroot salad which was yum and refreshing.

Yum yum yum. What a fantastic restruanrt. Food is so flavoursome all the different flavour that you can taste while you are eating <br/>Duck pate is to die for so is the chicken and chirirzo sausage dish but way too big for one person which we made the big mistake and wasted so much because it was just way too much for 1 person <br/>Would definetly return it is now 1 of my favourite restruants to visit in 2014

Endure the wait for Toast next door. For the first time, we decided not to endure the long wait for Toast and instead went next door to The Partisan -- what a mistake. The service was average, the coffee took forever and the food was nothing special. The waitresses were friendly, but unfortunately the other FoH staff brought the level of service down significantly. Might give this place another try for lunch or dinner, but never again for breakfast.
Robyn
Wonderful meal ,my lamb dish fell apart by using a fork , a knife wasn't needed .<br/>The serving was very generous & beautifully presented .<br/>The meal came with couscous , and two or three other vegetables , a complete meal . <br/>Would definitely go back !

Average food. Great location and outdoor seating are way better than Toast. But service at Toast is way better!
Melissalucia.carter
Great location, poor service. Went for a family dinner at 7:30pm on Friday night. After being passed by a couple of times we were eventually acknowledged and seated at our reserved table. We were then handed menus and left for a significant amount of time before being served. We were not told about any specials or given information about the fish of the day. When we did get to place our order we were told the slamon started was not available - would have been helpful to know that before we had viewed the menu and in saying that as the menu is fairly limited in its number of choices I find it difficult to believe that at that time of the evening they had already run out. After we ordered the first course came quite quickly. We struggled to gain the attention of staff to ask for some additional bread literally having to yell out across the restaurant to get their attention. At no time were we offered any additional drinks and sat through our main course with empty glasses. The food we had was beautiful, if not on the more expensive side. Appreciate you are paying for the location but for the price I would expect exceptional service as well not the service we received. Need to pay attention to your customers.

Service was poor. Food average. Won't be back.

Save your Money. This restaurant like its neighbour The Royal (also awful)takes full advantage of its beautiful location but service is terrible and food over priced, bland and in general not a good place to eat....save your money...oh and the bathrooms reflected the lack of care and complete disregard for customers...if I had seen them first I would have bolted.....waste of money all round

A wee disappointed! Cold c.... A wee disappointed! <br/>Cold coffee, overcooked French toast & no butter with the toast!

Great food, poor service. A lovely setting if you want quiet time with friends. The entree was $9 bread: 2 pieces of toast cut in half, rip off.... the main meals were lovely, very well done. The service was so poor we couldn't believe it, no structure to waitress areas, so no one sees you unless you call to them, and they are not attached to their job, very rude and made so many mistakes during the orders, as well as with the cheque, due to so many different people taking orders from you. Check the cheque. Wouldn't go again, as Entertainment book card they wouldn't honour either. :(

Great food, great night. Best steak I've ever had... Went for my gf's birthday dinner, booked online and had no dramas when arriving, pleasant and attentive service. The meals, both entree and mains had fantastic flavours and were an interesting mix of ingredients. Even the garlic bread was an experience. The atmosphere was really pleasant with beautiful views of the water. Would definitely return.

Didn't even get to eat here. Went with a friend as Toast looked too busy. Went and sat down and waited for around 20mins to get noticed. The waitress was absolutely rude when she got to our table. Acted like we were an inconvenience. She gave us the menus and left. We then waited another 15mins but no one came to take our order. Tired of waiting, we got up and left. Poor poor service
Missbtea
We originally intended on going to the royal brassiere but they had to turn us away as there would be an hour wait for food because they were packed. So as we walked away, we walked past this rustic cafe. We looked at the menu and decided to give it a try. Delicious! All their foods were so flavorful. The soup was amazing! The chicken sandwich was tasty and the coffees were good too. Service was a little lacking as we had to get our own menus, order at the counter and they messed up our bill but overall the food made up for it. It had a good atmosphere, we say outside enjoying the breeze and boats passing by. I enjoyed it.
LCD
Bit disappointed. It's such a beautiful location to stop for breakfast but unfortunately I've had two disappointing meals here now. I tried the granola previously which was quite plain so I thought I'd give the fruit and cinnamon french toast a go. The side of poached pear was nice although very modest but the french toast was terrible. Yes french toast has to be fried but deep fried so it's an oily molten crisp? Ick. I'm still getting indigestion just thinking about it.
Foodme
Pleasant surprise. Had I read the Urbanspoon reviews before dining here I wouldn't have bothered. However a friend took me there after a disappointing entrée at the nearby Royal On the Waterfront. I had the slow cooked pork belly and my friend the paprika crusted half chicken with chorizo. Both perfect meals for a cold wet and windy night. Tasty, hearty and ample servings. Followed by rhubarb crumble for dessert. I was really impressed with the food and the service was friendly and as attentive as we needed. I'll be back.
Jim Barry
Nice view and atmosphere, friendly service, coffee was good although not hot enough (asked for extra hot). Had Jerez eggs which was great. Would recommend and visit again.
Hungrybears
Nice view. Had breakfast here recently, a lovely set up and with a beautiful view of the water. The food was nice, nothing out of the ordinary. The disapointment was from the service. Our breakfast came out 15 minutes apart, when dining with only one other person I wouldn't have thought it too hard to bring a plate of toast and a plate of scrambled eggs out at the same time!
Laurat
Horrible food. We had a coffe with a suppostly pear and almond tart with ice-cream. They took like 20 minutes to bring it, and then the tart was horrible horrible and the best part no pear or almond. It tasted like old and bought from a very cheap store. The ice cream was bad too. How came even the ice cream could be bad. Not even my baby wanted to eat any of it. I told the lady there wasn't any almond or pear and instead of saying sorry, she said oh yes it has. On top of that it was very expensive!<br/>I went in another occasion and the services and food was disappointing again. That was the last time for sure.<br/>Please people go to Toast or the Royal. The wait is always worthy.

Service Needs Work. Went for brunch with a friend this morning (Toast was full) and found the ordering system rather odd. No table service or ordering at the bar, instead you line up at a cash register at the entrance (ie. between the alfresco and inside areas) and pay upfront. Unfortunately, it started raining and I got wet waiting in queue. Food and coffee were ok, albeit a bit pricey ($18 for eggs florentine on English muffins), but the waitress who brought us water and cleared our first lot of dishes couldn't manage a smile, let alone bother uttering a single word to us! Thankfully the young male waiter who took the remainder of our plates was much friendlier. Didn't think it particularly pleasant when one of the kitchen staff walked through the restaurant carrying 4 or 5 full garbage bags! If there are no side/back doors to the bins, at least wait until there are fewer patrons in the eating area. Doubt we'll return which is a shame as I live locally.
WineMeDineMe
What happened?. I used to love going here for the actual service... now they changed everything to the typical order & pay. Our food came out in 5 minutes and our drinks took 20... wont be back.

The lower level of 'likes' had put me off trying The Partisan in the past, however a small group of us we're looking to go out for a meal last Saturday, somewhere close, and my friend suggested it. <br/>It was lovely and cosy on a cold winter's night and the wait staff were pretty good (especially the waiter from Reunion Island who was excellent). We shared two larderboards and the duck liver parfait to start. The larderboards are delicious and beautifully presented. The duck liver parfait was a little flavourless, and we ran out of bread to have the parfait with (I would suggest serving it with a couple extra slices).<br/>I had the lamb shank for mains, which was delicious and my friends who chose the pork belly were very happy with their meal. Those who had the steak said it was overcooked (i.e. a request for rare was medium). <br/>The chocolate pudding for dessert was to die for, no complaints there.<br/>Overall we really enjoyed it, and would definitely go there again. I think The Partisan deserves a higher percentage of likes and is worth a try if you haven't been before. <br/>As an added bonus, The Partisan is in the gold section of the Entertainment Book so we enjoyed a welcome discount on our meal!
Spunkychicken
Lovely dinner on a cold wintery night. Greeted warmly by the male waiter on Saturday evening and seated at a lovely table for 2 by the window. We have been meaning to try The Partisan for a while, but was previously a bit put off by the food items on the menu. The winter menu is very conservative, and perhaps a bit more to our liking. <br/><br/>I could just see a chalk board in the distance (at ground level) between other patrons, but could not read all of what was written on the board. When the female waitress came to take our order, she didn't mention the "chalk board" at all, so I asked "are there any specials tonight?", to which she replied there was a soup. Didn't say anything else, so I asked if there was a "mains special", and she then proceeded to tell us what that was. I was a bit perplexed that I needed to prompt the young lady for this information, as I don't think we would have been told about the "specials" otherwise, very strange indeed! <br/><br/>We enjoyed the chorizo and some bread with roasted garlic for entree, however it took around 25 mins to arrive at the table. The vegetarian tart was outstanding in taste and presentation, and the barramundi was very good, but I was disappointed with the serving size of the fillet of fish, it was a tiny portion, and would not have been more than 50gm! The mash served with it was a bit "claggy", but overall, I still enjoyed it. We finished off by sharing the pumpkin silk tart , which was so yummy!<br/><br/>Would definitely go back, as we really enjoyed the food and the prices were reasonable for the serving sizes. The male waiter seemed very much on the ball, and when I could not get eye contact with the female waitress, despite her looking straight at me, the male waiter came over to see what we needed. Will recommend The Partisan to others for sure!
Bri
The poor percentage for the Partisan made me reluctant to try, however so glad I did. Food was really tasty and service was friendly on a busy Sunday morning. Like many others I wanted to eat at Toast but it is always impossibly busy. It was great to have a bit of space! Coffee was pretty good and food arrived quickly. My only complaint is that the table water tasted awful, and the taste of the water made the tea unpalatable. Maybe invest in a water filter? Overall a good experience and hope to be back soon.
Angela
Gorgeous food and view. We have eaten lunch at the Partisan twice this year and have loved both visits. We had friendly and attentive wait staff who ensured we had everything we requested. It is a beautiful spot by the water and the food is very tasty. Well done to all staff who work here. We would recommend the restaurant to all.

Yum!. Recently discovered this place at lunchtime and ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwhich - YUM! Went back yesterday with the boyfriend and begrudgingly ordered the baby beet salad (trying to be healthy) - which was absolutely delish and generous. Gorgeous spot too.

Don't waste your money.. Went to the Partisan for breakfast on a Saturday morning as a last resort when Toast had a 30 minute wait for a table. I was very disappointed - slow service (although the waitresses were friendly), badly cooked poached eggs (one runny, the other practically hard boiled), a burnt English muffin, average hot chocolate. And so expensive! I've learned my lesson - next time, I'll just wait for a table at Toast!
Om Nom
I liked it, but $14 for poached eggs a bit if a rip off

Great location on a sunny Sunday. We had lunch here on a lovely autumn sunny day. It's a beautiful spot right by the river. Like others, the service we received was patchy, but not off putting. It took a very long time to serve our meals and they didn't look very busy so I'm not sure why.<br/><br/>Two of our group had the special pork belly - it wasn't great, a bit too dry. I had the mussels which came with fries - they were lovely.<br/><br/>In summary, if it wasn't for the great location, I probably wouldn't seek it out. But the location takes a lot of beating.

Delightful spot pity about the service one waitress was lovely and very apologetic for the behavior of the other waitress also took ages to get our drinks and we gave up on our cakes just sad that the rudeness spoilt what could have been a lovely afternoon.

Food was very nice, quite quick and reasonably priced. Gorgeous area to sit outside, lovely friendly little bird around. We'll be back!

The lunch menu was plentiful and varied. Larder board was delicious with lots of lovely treats!

Above par. Ate here Easter Monday and it was a really nice vibe down by the river in East Perth. Everywhere was pretty busy so stopped by the Partisan for brunch. <br/><br/>It's a nice menu but it sticks to the savoury choices, there are no pancakes etc just muffins and croissants and the rest are sourdough bread and egg options.<br/><br/>I went with the tomato and chickpea, toast and poached eggs and my sister had the sardines on toast. Washed down with tea and a chai latte. Tasted good and came to the grand total of $42 which I thought was reasonable.<br/><br/>The service is very average but not enough to put me off. The girl behind the counter was friendly enough and they bring cold tap water to the table not long after being seated. <br/><br/>Apparently dinner is great so will be back.
Taste Bud
Food is quite good. The entrees were amazing - go the white anchovies! Service is very friendly but a little inattentive but forgetful more than anything. Twice forgot drink orders. Get service right, and this could be a real contender.

Didn't get to try the great food that everyone talks about - due to really poor service. Waited by the 'wait to be seated sign' whilst the staff member did her own thing for a few mins. Then despite many tables being free we were told to wait for 5 mins to the side until a table is free!!! What the?? Voted with our feet to another cafe nearby. Such a shame as a great location.

Great for dinner and breakfast.. Dinner was that good we went back for breakfast the next day.!!<br/>We both had the risotto on Saturday night and it was stunning. The flavours were unique and so tasty. The service was friendly and efficient.<br/><br/>Coupled with a glass of wine looking at the great view, it was a perfect night...so good we went back

Good food, iffy service. A group of us had dinner there. The food was good, although they do like to make the entree portions look bigger by adding lots of toast. $8 for 4 anchovies seems a bit much. Service was OK till they forgot to bring a dessert for one person. Repeated requests for it were all met with 'it'll be there in 2 minutes", then dismissed by a very arrogant waiter. Eventually, the staff blamed a 'computer error'!!! A better attitude towards customer service needs to be adopted.

Bad Xmas lunch - No air con here!!!. My office booked a table for Xmas lunch on a 40+ degree day. We booked inside because of the heat but there is NO AIR CONDITIONING!!!! Service was extremely slow and despite the heat drink service was terrible. Food only lack lustre and we got the added bonus of having a sewerage smell waft in while we were eating. When next door to the Royal for dessert and to cool off.

Good service, good food. Had breakfast here this morning. Waitress came straight away with water and to take drinks orders. Then food order taken shortly thereafter. Had the continential and the full pan breakfast. Both were excellent and filling. Service was friendly and attentive.

Mediocre food, appalling service. We noticed Partisan's cool interior whilst we were next door at Toast. From the outside, it looks cool and sophisticated with its decor and dark wood panelling. Sadly, it doesn't live up to the hype. The service was appalling - the waitress took her time to seat us (it wasn't even busy), and was generally not attentive. The staff spent most of their time discussing their rosters around the register. The coffee (from Five Senses) was weak, but a bit better than the coffee at Toast. I'm fairly certain the juices are not freshly squeezed but they were nice enough. My brioche with mushrooms was revolting - no seasoning, drenched in oil, and had far too much Brie (which, incidentally was not listed on the description). My husband had the Jerez eggs which were cooked well and he enjoyed. Overall, the service really killed Partisan for us. Being nice to customers when they pay their bill but ignoring them the rest of the time doesn't count as good service guys. Definitely not coming back!

Pathetic excuse for service. My partner and I attempted to have brunch at the Partisan not long after it opened. We ordered a simple eggs on toast breakfast and a salad. 55 minutes later we were still waiting. this was at 11am when the place was at less than half capacity. We were told our meal was 10 minutes away, then 5 minutes away, and waited a further 15-20 before we ended up leaving hungry and going to Mc Donalds. Absolute joke!

Once is enough. Tried here on our mission to find a good breakfast in Perth. My partner enjoyed his eggs and coffee but I'm writing the review. Tasteless thick, heavy pancakes covered in watery ricotta. Not nice. Will keep looking.

Went here today and had the prawn pasta (Lunch special) - delicious!

Had the eggs florentine, would have preferred the spinach cooked as it gave the whole dish a cold feel. Didn't like the hard English muffin it came on. Five senses coffee served which had a burnt taste to it. I do not think I would go back unfortunately, a plus was the good service!

Partisan warfare. I am still recovering from the shock of paying $16.50 for an affogato. Good job on sneaking a $9 frangenlico shot on my bill, never saw that coming. You did good in quashing that particular insurgency, what with me breaking my diet and whatnot... to be honest I was just looking to sneak a bit of ice cream in my coffee but you taught me good, sneakyness leads to alcohol, evil ways and scary bills. So no more of that nonsense. And no more coming back to your little den of infamy (OK, your fitout is kinda boring and you get showed up massively by Toast but thought I'd make it sound interesting). Anyhoo Partisan, all the best with your cheap tricks and bogan pretentions.

Used to be great but service levels have fallen. Difficult to get attention of waitstaff. Requested slice of bread with olive oil and was given toasted sourdough... Mains inordinately slow to arrive. Table next to us when instead of their dessert they received a duplicate serve of mains they had an hour previously.<br/><br/>Went next door to Toast for dessert, where in contrast the staff were much friendlier and service efficient.

Nice surprise!. After reading some negative reviews, decided to try it again last night. Lovely cool evening so sat outside. Food was very enjoyable. Larder Board was more than sufficient for 2 people, but managed to fit in Pork Belly as well. Service ok but had to continually look for waiter/waitress. Restaurant was very busy but only 3 staff on. Could be so much better if more staff to service customers, although staff were always pleasant. Overall quite satisfied & would go again.

Not as bad as the reviews made me think it would be. Went here for dinner with a friend last night, despite the patchy reviews. We found it to be lovely. We booked a table inside but they had kept us a table outside since it was such a nice night. <br/>Service was good, we were given menus straight away and glasses of wine appeared promptly. We ordered the sourdough for starters which again came without delay. We each ordered the 1/2 chicken which was delicious. Not an excessive wait between courses, as some people have mentioned, all in all a good night. <br/>Would go here again.

...Poor Service & Food.... My partner and I had breakfast here on the weekend, as it was really hot we sat inside assuming the aircon would be on, nope, was off the whole time we were there, you shouldnt have to ask for a basic service like that...Nearly fell off my chair at the price for pancakes at $17.00....come on guys! <br/><br/>Ordered toast in the end and that was just about cold when we got it, my partner had the Museli that was average, had to get up and chase a waiter for a spoon....<br/><br/>Will be waiting the 5-10 minutes at 'Toast' next door for a table in the future.

Nice Food, Weird Service. Nice looking restaurant in East Perth overlooking the water. We were looking for somewhere to eat along here and were attracted to this place because of the cool decor, great seating area outside and the yummy-looking brunch/lunch menu.<br/><br/>We waited by the "please wait to be seated" sign and were ignored by several non-busy looking wait staff for a few minutes. Eventually, a woman already serving someone else noticed us and told us just to sit wherever we wanted. We opted to sit outside where there was a cool breeze, but deviated from the table that had days-old bird poop caked on it. I kind of got the feeling we were being a massive pain in her backside for just being there. A young waiter guy just sort of handed/threw the menu's at us, without explaining any of the specials. In Perth, this sort of stuff is pretty standard, so at this point we weren't deterred or surprised.<br/><br/>We perused our menu's for about 10 minutes and during this time, I noticed little congregations of wait-staff hovering about an arm-length away from us just having causal conversations about their personal lives, while other wait staff were busy trying to serve other diners. The strangest thing about this place is that for a small to medium-sized restaurant, they have a lot of staff out and about on the floor, which makes you think the service would be top-notch. However, a lot of the time, you just see the staff sitting around at tables or standing in groups talking which can actually make for an awkward experience. Like, do I only ask the waitress that looks busy for assistance or do I interrupt your convo and ask the non-busy ones for help?<br/><br/>After a waitress came to take our orders, the service had improved slightly. This time we received manners and a smile, which was nice.<br/><br/>The food was awesome. We had the larder board to share. It was one of the best share-plates I have ever had. The terrine was delicious, the prosciutto was amazing, the lentil/split pea dip and pickles were all so delicious and were beautifully presented. I thought it was very good value. My eggs and beans were well cooked and my boyfriend's beef sandwich with hand cut chips was also very nice. My only complaint would be that my strawberry milkshake was served warm. This made me feel a bit queasy and I only drank half of it due to concerns of food poisoning. Thumbs up for using real strawberries though.<br/><br/>Overall, I liked and thoroughly enjoyed the food here. It's just a shame about the weird service. P.S. Please wipe down your outdoor seating area. I do not want dried bird poo with my meal.

Fantastic service- which is seriously hard to find in Perth! Great coffee & the eggs benny was really good. Don't bother the rude staff next door at Toast- I prefer great service any day! Liz was excellent & made me feel welcome & appreciated

Nice enough but nothing startling. A couple of stuff ups with gluten free requests but food was ok/nice when we got it. Service ok...prices typical Perth but no surprises there.

Food is fine but the service is so abysmally bad that you almost think it is on purpose. <br/>Seated properly then after 20 minutes we got up and tapped a waiter on the shoulder (at the till, looking outside) to order wine. That was delivered then 15 minutes later we got up to ask someone to take our food order.<br/>Food was very nice - had the chicken schnitzel sandwich and frites. But that was it for service. No follow up, no second drinks order, had to actually find a waiter to pay. No, seriously.<br/>Not like they were busy - in total the served 4 tables for lunch - we were the last to leave.<br/>The Royal, where we wanted to go, was totally full - one of these places us getting it right, the other has a good chef and damn lazy staff.

We had breakfast on a Saturday morning. The setting is nice with a great view, service is a bit slow with food taking about 45 minutes but couldn't fault the meals, the chick pea and beans braise with poached eggs were all cooked perfect and the Jerez eggs lovely also, a bit on the pricey side but a solid restaraunt none the less
Jessica Gorman
Great customer service. We had a party of 10, including 2 toddlers and a baby. We had a pram and we went for brunch on Saturday, when they were super busy. We moved tables 3 times in search of the best space, and they couldn't have been more accommodating of our awkward and inconvenient group. The good was delicious and came in good time. My only suggestion would be baby change facilities in the toilets.
Emma
We lived across the road from Partisan for a couple of months- best couple of months of our lives!! Best soy chai latte, best choice of breakie- always super fresh & full of flavour, and absolutely awesome service :-) The funky, urban atmosphere inside and the beautiful scenery outside definitely make this place one of our favourite hang-outs in Perth :-) Just perfect!

4/10. The breakfast experience I had today was "atrocious" pure & simple. A Saturday or Sunday breakfast for me rivals your last meal before execution. I outlay a little more cash, up the calorie intake to qualify for heart medication & then slip into a coma on the couch. Today though was like a skateboarder running into a semi trailer at high speed. What was a "$22.00 big brekky" turned out to be a "$22.00 big rip off". 2 "bits of bacon" does not constitute a "big brekky" where I come from. Maybe in Lilliput but not on my watch. I even ordered an extra piece so if 1 is standard then you might as well throw your money in the bin. The first coffee was great but the 2nd (which we asked to be remade & rejected as well) might have been waved over the coffee machine as no coffee existed in the cup. Nescafé 43 bean flavour has more flavour than those 2 coffees. The service was ok & essentially the view received 3/10 votes in this review alone. I revommend other places such as a hospital, soup kitchen or the bin around the corner for more value for money & better service

Exceptional dining experience. Hubby and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary at The Partisan. What a fantastic find this is. Quirky and funky but the real talent lies in the kitchen. Superb menu - hard to choose. Quality of food displays some amazing talent from this young team. I will be dreaming of the slow cooked lamb for weeks to come.

Went here for a Friday lunch with friends visiting from overseas. We didn't end up eating as the service was terrible and we were made to feel very unwelcome as we chose to sit at a table that had yet to be uncleared. The service staff rolled their eyes when we sat down, followed by constant 'nagging' for us to move. We chose to sit at the table after we were told to choose anywhere. Furthermore, as we had a toddler it was far enough away from other diners. My guests were shocked at the level of rudeness we received from both service staff. They're totally in the wrong business and I wouldn't recommend anyone visiting this place. Beaut spot, bad staff. Unfortunate for the owners! Bypass at all costs.

Great Service, got our meals super fast - great start to the morning. I ordered the Atlantic Benedict which was fine. The wife had scrambled eggs and bacon which she thoroughly enjoyed!

A Great Find!. We stumbled in to the Partisan by accident this evening after being disappointed at a nearby restaurant where we went for our wedding anniversary dinner. But our "accident" meant that we found a lovely little restaurant with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and good value for money. We'll be back!

Good spot. Found The Partisan in the good food guide. Small but interesting menu. My wife and I ordered the larder plate for entree. It. Was very tasty with a good diversity of selections. The mains were good portions and delicious. I had the lamb pot roast which was very tasty. A quite limited wine list is the only slight downside. Good and attentive service. I would recommend the Partisan and will certainly go back. Maybe breakfast next time?

Beautiful setting. Friday August 17 Lunch<br/><br/>Love the outside area with a lovely view<br/>Love the comfortable "couchy" seats for anyone who's just having coffee .. or whatever<br/>Love the yummy well portioned mussels and tasty beetroot salad<br/>Love the good value lunch set<br/>Love the attentive service person<br/>Loathe the almost never changing a la carte menu

Well worth a visit. We had Jerez eggs and mushrooms on a sweet bread with Camembert and rocket, both dishes absolutely delicious.

Warning consider somewhere else!. I came here this morning for breakfast and the only good part of this experience was the wait staff and the decor. Everything else was worse than terrible. After waiting more than forty minutes we received an over priced and poorly cooked eggs on toast. We ordered extra avocado ($4) and tomato ($3), which were barely there and the "on the pan" (big breakfast $22) deffinatly wasn't big enough for the price. Overall we were pretty disapointed for the amount of money we spent for the quality and size of the meal we received.
Amy Garden
The location is great, right on the water at Claisebrook cove. Everything else is a disappointment. My eggs florentine came on dry, store bought english muffins with no butter, piles of uncooked spinach and the blandest hollandaise I've ever tasted all for $18! To add insult to injury the coffee was weak and lukewarm. The place next door called toast was packed so its probably a better choice than here
Eye4food
Totally filled my bf's cravings and hes a fussy eater! Thats saying something. A little pricey for typical breakfast but totally worth it.
Tabitha Berger
Still to be convinced. Went for lunch (Toast was closed) with a group of 6 people. Everything went well until we placed our orders, which took 50 minutes to come and only came after we enquired about it. Coffee came out a lot earlier and was lovely, so we were just waiting for the food which was nice on the most part but - soup was delicious but was only warm. Someone ordered the mushrooms on toast which also had a cold part in the middle. Another person on our table ordered a side salad that was supposed to have walnuts in it but didn't arrive with any. Other meals that came out looked great - we're going to give it another go and see if it's better.
David
Service too slow. Having lived in East Perth for just over a year I have tried The Partisan for Sunday breakfast, weekend lunch and mid-week dinner. The menu has always been interesting and the food tasty and well presented. The service however, has always been terrible! The staff all seem too intent on congregating inside where they can't notice the patrons outside waiting to SPEND MONEY.
Jw75
Absolutely infuriated with it!<br/><br/>We had a long walk along the river and decided to try it out. It was 11:40am and was told that kitchen was close for breakfast and they were only serving cakes & coffee. We understand the kitchen changing over to lunch so we were fine with staying for cakes & coffee. We looked at cabinet and what cakes?! The few left over muffins and cakes were dismally unappetising! We still stayed to order our beverages. Whilst we waited no water was served until 15 mins later and we were brought only the bottle of water. What?! Did they expect us to drink out of the 1.5 lt bottle?! We were trying to get the waitstaff attention but non were paying any. The move around the floor like they were stoned! After half an hour of waiting for our drinks we decided to cancel our order and leave. Appalling service, waste of time and good premise. Get your act together!

Seriously, when are these guys going to sort out their issues with the slow service?? We go in to east Perth every Saturday morning and usually patronise toast, but frequently they are packed to the brim and the overflow tend to trickle into the partisan, us included. The food at the partisan is great, but it's obvious as to the reason that toast is packed And the partisan isn't - the service is ridiculously slow. We often wait longer than 10 minutes to even be acknowledged let alone have our order taken. Address this issue guys and you may become more than just a second choice to toast.
Graz
Way too slow
Allybee
Good brekky!. Went here for breakfast in a group of six- we were going to go to Toast but the wait was too long! Having not heard many good things about the Partisan we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food- between us we tried the buttermilk pancakes, Jerez eggs and beans with morcilla sausage on sourdough, along with the banana-honey smoothie and many cappucinos! Could not fault the food, however it took nearly 40 minutes for it to come out, by which time we were starving. I would probably only go back if I was prepared for a long wait!
Chriss
Very disappointing. Went there on Sunday morning.Place was quite busy.we were advised that coffee and food is a 20 minute wait, but over 40 minutes and after chasing with the manager no food or coffee has arrived at the table.after speaking to the manager Sheree, who had a very rude and stressed attitude, she stated that this is normal and suggested to cancel he order.dissapointing to see that restaurants in Perth are still in the position to treat customers rude and unfriendly. Would not go back.
Nico
Possibly the worst service and most overpriced breakfast I have ever eaten. While eating I have watched at least 4 couples leave due to the fact no one ha taken there order with the waitress laughing as one couple had left, at least she noticed them. Seriously think twice !!!!
Chris
Both times had to wait ages to order and then at least an hour for the meal, no exaggeration. Food was ok tho
George
Great sunday lunch. After the week of bad weather we went to the partisan for Sunday lunch and got just what the location called for, great food sound service & good value! Will be coming back
Carma Levene
Eggs!. You Must go and have the Jerez (unsure of spelling) Eggs, the best breakfast I have ever eaten. Hands Down. I got told to stop talking about it because I went on about it all day.
Derek
Went for coffee gave us water bottle no glasses and proceeded to walk past for next 10min ignoring us

Nice, homey food. Had a gn.... Nice, homey food. <br/>Had a gnocchi starter (pan fried with mushrooms and some delicious cheese). Gnocchi was light and delicious. Would go back for this, however it was a special so am not sure it will still be on the menu. <br/>I had a lamb pot roast, with I think a spinach and ricotta pastry of some sort. To be honest I wasn't the biggest fan of the roast, but I think due to being sick my senses were not attuned enough to pick up te flavour. <br/>Nice setting, good service, will be back at some stage. <br/>Ps appreciated the waiter giving us a better table even though it was booked (apparently they were late)
Kernowjon
The One Pan Breakfast at $20 is probably the worst cooked brekky I've eaten in quite some time. The Scrambled Eggs had no other flavor than burned cooking oil. I had noted the "65% People Like It" on Urbanspoon with some concern but my breakfast companions assured me we should not believe everything we read: I wish I had trusted my initial reticence. I honestly felt queasy all morning after eating what The Partisan chefs served up to me. Will never venture back.

Not too Bad at all. I have been to breakie at the Partisan as Toast was full. Didn't think that much of it. Wasn't horrible but nothing stood out, to make me want to return... However a friend organised dinner there recently.<br/>It wasn't very busy but had a beautiful atmosphere at night. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. (Had duck) <br/>We were also the last ones left in the restaurant at about 1130 however we never felt like we were pushed out the door or made to feel like leaving... something that rarely happens in Perth!!! No stacked chairs!! So would def consider going again for dinner...

Positive surprise. A friend and I had a plan to go to the Toast for Sunday lunch but as usual, the place was packed and we just wandered to the neighboring restaurant, The Partisan. Despite of neither of us really having heard anything specifically good about the place previously, we were positively surprised. I had the pasta of the day: fettuccine with roast chicken breast, wild mushrooms, spinach and goat cheese. My companion had a roast beef sandwich with chips. All the ingredients appeared fresh and of good quality and the pasta was very good indeed. <br/><br/>Afterwards we had a chai latte, a soy cap and two white chocolate - raspberry muffins. The soy cap was watery and weak (which is unfortunately very usual in Perth, have no clue why. Do you baristas really add some water in it besides the soy milk...?) and the wheat muffins were a bit dry, it was a bit unclear that where the white chocolate and raspberries were. The muffins were served with two different jams which made them go down fairly smoothly. Each lunch, including the drink and the dessert cost $34 which is a fairly reasonable price in Perth. Could have been cheaper but the nice river views add to the price I assume.

Good breakfast! My friend and I were looking for somewhere for breakfast, and stumbled upon this place. Service was good, they were very friendly. Really nice location near the water which is really relaxing and the food was delicious. Orange juice tasted freshly squeezed and the buttermilk pancakes were fabulous.

Check it out!. We were walk-ins on a beautiful autumn afternoon and we were immediately greeted and offered a table of our choice. It was really hot so we sat inside, although the tables under the trees outside looked very inviting. The food leaving the kitchen looked superb so I was anticipating a yummy lunch and I wasn't disappointed. We ordered the larder board - an offering containing terrine, sausage, olives, cheese and other yummy delights - and the beetroot and spiced carrot salad. For the two of us we could have just had the larder board and that would have been more than enough. The food was delicious, the service prompt and cheerful and the location superb. We'll be going back at some point soon I hope!

Don't waste your money. Went here for lunch. Was told to move my pram by the owner. So rude and ruined our lunch. Food disappointing and so slow to come out. Won't be going back.
Axel.du.plessis
Pathetic dinner. I went there on a Friday night with a friend, the only good thing was the location, the rest was absolutely terrible. We both ordered the barramundi, waited about 40 min without any appetizer, I asked if we could have bread 3 times before being served.<br/><br/>When the plates arrived I was very disappointed by the quantity, a small piece of barramundi with a ridiculous amount of potatoes. I finished my plate in about 4 min and the whole dinner coated $99 with a glass of wine each.<br/><br/>Good food but the service is pathetic, the prices are high and the quantity of food is almost insulting. Worst restaurant in Perth in my opinion for that price.
Ruben Natanael Gojali
Read a good review on this retaurant,we called to book but they said no booking required then when we arrived, they said full and we didn't book.but the funny thing are we saw numbers of empty table without the reserve signed.then we wait and ask again and we got the rude reply from one of the staff.after that we saw a group of family turn up and they didn't book but straightaway assist to the table....getting furious....my opinion that lady is totally wrong....r****t...not happy

Yummy vegan brunch, great setting.. My friend and I did the usual thing of trying to get into Toast next door one Sunday morning. Missing out, I suggested Partisan - without much hope, since many reviews suggested it was a poor substitute for Toast.<br/>We got a pleasant surprise when we ordered a vegan feast of mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes - all were listed as side dishes - on sourdough toast. Servings were very generous, well-cooked, though a little slow in arriving. Price was very reasonable at $12 - 13! Coffee was fine. View was relaxing, service alright. No complaints at all!
MrT3
Very average dishes for the price. I have had better food at a pub. <br/>My meat was cold, and I had to get it reheated. <br/>The side dishes didn't come out until our mains were finished! <br/>I have heard similar bad reviews from friends... I wonder how this place survives in such a prime location.

Ordinary. Sunday morning muffin. steaming hot on the outside and very cold on the inside. when i questioned if they were frozen, i was told we keep them in the fridge. At 730 on a sunday morning? i dont think so. wont be back

Great location, crap coffee, good service, crap food. I must say up front that this was my first visit and I don't usually judge a place after only one occassion. All cafe/restaurants have off days/nights so I will go back and try again. Don't get to East Perth much and it's been a while since I sipped coffee overlooking a canal, with the city behind me and small lesuire craft meandering up and down the water in front. The location is great. My waitress was Canadian, friendly, helpful and on to it. She started by telling us that the kitchen had been closed becuase it had reached capacity but it was now re-open just with a wait (up to 40 minutes) on food. I didn't like the wait but I appreciate being told up front so I new what to expect and I was willing to wait. My long black came out sans- crema, with a big, think greasy mark around the edge where the watery coffee complete with greasy floating spots slopped around- it didnt look or taste good! I am assuming dirty group heads or cups not rinsed properly or both? I sent it back- the worse thing is my second cup was ALMOST just as bad. It would take a bit of convincing to get me to try another coffee at the Partisan. But again, maybe the real barista was sick and I was just unlucky? I hope for East Perth residents sake that this is the case. My breakfast I am afraid was also not a pleasant experience- smoked salmon on potato rosti with hollandaise and a herb salad. The rosti were rock hard and greasy on the outside (deep fired??!) and grey and cold on the inside. The hollandaise was greasy not buttery and the leaves were completely devoid of herbs. in all honesty- pretty awful.

Disappointed. Food, decor, atmosphere and service was fantastic, until the end when they kicked us out unceremoniously saying that 'others had booked the table'. <br/>we did hang around long enough to notice there were no other waiting patrons. <br/>not going back again, did not appreciate being told to move along ..

Had a lovely valentines dinner at the venue. Service and meal portions were great, only problem was parking . Had to walk along way but it was worth it in the end

Good breakfast! I came last year and didn't think it was very good however the breakfast this morning. Get was great.

Great location, food not too bad either. I went into the Partisan on a busy Sunday morning, and we were warned there was a 30min wait on breakfast. That was ok so we waited and had coffees in the meantime. I really like the coffee table and lounge area, which my friend's son enjoyed sitting at and playing with his toys while we chatted. My eggs benedict were pretty good, served simply and a little small but enough to satisfy.
Mimi
Just disgusting. Service is apalling we waited an hour and a half for 2 lunches and a salad, all of which was poorly presented and tasteless. Overpriced crap Id rather take my chances at McDondalds then ever step foot on there again
Pony
Dislike. The Partisan has awfully rude staff, it took them twenty minutes to find us a table (even though we had booked) and they made us stand around without offering us any water or food. Average food and average wine list.
Phaedra Gurton
Only came here because toast was too busy, regretted the decision of not waiting in line. The staff were rude, and one ignored me when I asked her to my table. My pancakes were dry and burnt, was given another serving sand this still wasn't very good. The proportion sizes are tiny. The drinks are a rip off $7.5 for a glass of orange juice. The place was hot, and not well air conditioned. The food took half an hour and they werent even busy.Overall I would never dine here again, nor would I recommend to anyone.

I stumbled across the Partisan on Sunday just gone. I had arrived at the WACA early to reserve my seat for the cricket, had 2 hours to kill and needed to have breakfast. I have never been to any of the restaurants at Claisebrook Cove, but knew they existed. My intention was to have breakfast at Toast, due to the score it had received on Urbanspoon. Like so many others, I arrived to discover a packed house. I also had a look at Toast's menu and felt it was a bit limited. So, I went next door to The Partisan and sat at a beautiful little 2 person table, ready to order (I wasn't greeted whilst perusing the menu, so seated myself.... This was the only low point of my visit). Once I had seated myself, a bottle of refrigerated tap water was brought to my table and as I had a menu already, I was asked if I'd like to start with a drink. Service was efficient and thoughtful. Aside from the initial hiccough, where I wasn't greeted and seated, I'd say it was some of the best service I'd received at a Perth restaurant. Even though there were plenty of other guests and even a couple of large groups they made sure I knew I was important to them. This alone would make me go back there (we all know how hard it is to find good service at Perth restaurants!!) I was asked if I was ready to order as they were about to take a couple of large orders and didn't want mine to get stuck at the end. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with berry compote. The pancakes were delicious, if a little overloaded with berries. I also ordered a pineapple juice. On the menu it states that their juices are supplied by a juice company (can't recall the name, maybe Pure & Natural?). I was expecting pulp free, average pineapple juice. Instead, I was served one of the best pineapple juices I've ever had. It was fresh, pulpy and felt like I was drinking direct from a pineapple through a straw. $8.50 seemed a bit steep for a glass of juice, so I was relieved that I was so richly rewarded for my monetary sacrifice!! Admittedly, the order of enjoyment is as follows: pineapple juice; view; service; ambience; weather; coffee; pancakes; greet & seat; value for money. 4 stars - based mainly on the service.

Great location, great food, terrible service. The service was so slow (it wasn't busy), plus they got an order wrong and forgot our dessert! Need to fix the service, then it'll be amazing.

Very overpriced, $7.50 for an orange juice. Waiting a long time for food and waiters are not too friendly. We only came here because toast was too busy. They lack variety in the menu.
Melaustra
Overated. Service was a bit slow.. dirty tables.. and also the food wasnt that great.. toast is a much better option
Tryhardmattpreston
Was it really necessary for the balding waiter with the moustache and tattoos to roll his eyes when one of my guests asked for a simple substitution to her meal? Mediocre food, terrible service! We'll be going to Toast in future!

Great start to the day. Hadnt been able to book a table for breakfast on Saturday but decided to call in and hope for the best. Had forgotten the cricket was on at the WACA so the place was absolutely buzzing but the amazing staff organised a small table for us and an extra chair and politely advised it would be a wait for hot food. So pleased we stayed. Had some croissants to keep want away and they were delicious and the breakfast certainly didnt disappoint. The eggs, tomato and chorizo pan dish was a standout. A couple of mimosas finished off the meal perfectly. Great location, delicious food and some of the best wait staff in Perth. Thanks for a great start to our day<br/><br/><br/>-----09 Dec, 2011-----<br/><br/>Idyllic evening. Lovely sitting outside on such a calm warm evening. The menu was interesting and the food beautifully cooked. The larder platter was a stand out. The service was impeccable and greatly added to the enjoyment of the evening. Being huge veggie fans we went home raving about the green beans with preserved lemon - but really all the food was delicious. An interesting cheese board and Spanish sticky wine was the perfect end to the evening. Definitely be back very soon

Thumbs up ...and thumbs down. Took my boss from Sydney here last Wed nite at behest of partner who had read reviews, spoken to people in the industry( as we are) etc etc. Menu looked great and the board to share was a fantastic start to dinner, good combinations of flavours and textures and so I started thinking mmm this is going to be as good as Press in Adelaide ( great food and great service) .....not quite. When the entree was cleared we ordered a bottle of wine for the main course, a Cote du Rhone......the waitress said squinting at the menu "which one " ???? cleary having no idea what it was. Sorted that out and then she came back with our cutlery and proceeded to grab each fork and knife by the blade/tine and set them down....we were gobsmacked !! Hope she had clean hands ? Embarassing was not the word...never seen that before at a Pie Cart never mind a restaurant that's supposed to be on the up. Some serios staff training is needed here before they blow it.Partner said thet the Artichoke main was the best vegetarian dish she'd ever eaten out, and boss said Salmon fillet was ok but nothing special and my rare staek was medium at best, so all in all some highs and some really low lows. Would I go back...maybe if you dragged me along and the waitress had gloves on.

So so.... Breakfast wasn't as good as other Claisebrook eateries all within metres of this place, and more expensive too. The only plus to The Partisan is the lovely waterfront seating - best on the strip here in East Perth. I enjoyed the location more than the food.

Beautiful food and great location. We went here with a group of 4 on Thursday night, and were so pleased with all elements: The service was personable without being intrusive, the food was inspired and delicious (and very affordable!), and the portions were generous without sacrificing quality ingredients.<br/><br/>The larderboard was an excellent starter to share with a group, with ingredients clearly chosen for their quality. The artichoke dish was the best vegetarian dish I believe I've ever had (most restaurants don't put this much thought into creating a dish that a fraction of the patrons will order...) <br/><br/>Service, as mentioned, was personable and prompt, and the staff were very knowledgeable about their features and menu. <br/><br/>There may have been some poor reviews so far, but this is a new restaurant and as such, had some kinks to work out (as they all would...) I highly recommend trying this for the first time, or giving it another try if you felt there was room for improvement. The improvements have been made.

Crap Service. Food was reasonable, but the service was so bad that there is no way I can recommend this place.

Great view. Lovely location and food was good. Great on a warm afternoon

Lovely setting.... Good atmosphere waterfront. good food service a bit slow but pleasant enough(only been for lunch) dinner service might be different. highly recommend this place for a long lunch with girlfriend.

Very relaxed environment where you can have a conversation whilst enjoying a sizeable and quality meal

Quality food at a great price.. The Partisan represents great value. This is top notch food at a cafe price. <br/>The 'Larder board' is fantastic value as a shared entree. Our mains were packed full of flavour. GF's goat fricassee on gnocchi? Wow! My wild mushroom risotto with truffles was SO MUCH BETTER than than other risottos I've had recently. There was a wait between entree and main but after stuffing ourselves with the larder board we actually appreciated it.<br/>The Partisan does beautiful food. Shame the service is the let-down. Not taking orders when our menus are sitting closed shut, not offering another drink when glass is empty (though they have a fantastic range of wines by the glass) and not offering us desserts. The lights were on but no one was home. She would 'look' at each of the 4 tables she had to 'service' (I know. So many poor girl.) and then walk off, missing the bleeding obvious.<br/>So, in short, LOVED the food, price is great but the service leaves a lot to be desired. Do try the larder board.

Great fruit toast. the rest of the hot breakfasts were ok but nothing to write home about.

Taste sensation. My husband and I made a reservation for dinner here on friday night after I read a review in scoop magazine. However, after reading some of the other rather scathing reviews, I became increasingly unsure about my decision, to the point that I nearly cancelled our booking. Ultimately, we decided give it a go. I am gluten intolerant and vegetarian (yes, a chef's nightmare) and there were a couple of things on the menu which sounded fantastic (i.e the artichokes) but contained gluten. The chef prepared a gluten-free version of the dish and i have to say I was blown away....the flavours were fantastic - the best meal I have had in a very long while. Certainly made a change from the ubiquitous vegetable stack that I usually get offered!!! Ambiance was great, warm and inviting inside.....though sadly this was created more by the decor and lighting than by the staff, whom whilst friendly, appeared just a bit vacant, somewhat inattentive and as though they were just going through the motions. We waited a bit longer than average for our meals, but not ridiculously long. It was worth the wait. My husband had the goat, which he enjoyed, but remarked that it was very meat laden....unusual. We also had the potatoes lyonaise which were to die for! Overall, a nice venue.....but they just need wait staff who actually seem as though they want to make your experience more enjoyable and who 'attend' more to the tables....small things like topping up your empty water glass, checking if you'd like another drink, asking how your meal is while you are still eating it. The production line in the kitchen could be speedier.....but they are certainly on the money in terms of flavours and creativity. Well done!
Trish
Trish. My husband and I dined here a few weeks ago and we loved it. The food was wonderful, and even tho neither of us really felt like going out that night we forced ourselves and I must say by the end of the night our moods had turned right around and we were glad we went. Fabulous food 'creme brulee' to die for! Great service, would recomend it to all of my friends.

So-so. I haven't voted on whether I like The Parisan or not because I'm honestly straight down the middle. I went for breakfast with my family on a lazy Saturday morning.<br/><br/>I do want to say that either we were lucky with our service or they've been paying attention to these reviews, because the service was good.<br/><br/>The menu was not particularly inspired, but had most of the classics. I ordered a Spanish egg and chorizo concoction which was disappointing. Nice idea, but pretty average execution. There were some undercooked eggs on another plate, but by all reports the remainder of the food was fine. So average food, but good service and good view had me at a thumbs up.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, bad coffee and a broken blender (no smoothies) took me to straight down the line. I might try it again, but only because The Royal sucks and Toast is always packed.

Pleasant Surprise. At the end of a decent ride (3pm) on a beautiful spring day, East Perth was the last stop on the way home. But with the rugby union on and the Royal Bar and Brasserie very busy it was time the Partisan across the way got a run. There was only a hand full of people there, and lots of tables outside - so that made for an easy decision.<br/><br/>I started to get suspicious when I was told they were only serving a limited menu (there's a part menu served after noon and before dinner), so the larder board and a market salad it was. <br/><br/>Having that 'chef's off shift, I'm about to get second best' feeling I was truly surprised. Both salad and board were truly top notch. <br/><br/>The salad, as simple as it was had good quality ingredients and some thought put into it, for example both the radishes and the onion had been sliced thin enough to maintain the taste but not overpower the other ingredients. Why can't other venues think about things like this ! The walnuts, whilst not overly plentiful played a supportive role to the cheese and made for nice surprises. Again - full of flavour but not to the detriment of the other ingredients. It really was a Goldilocks salad - just right !<br/><br/>The larder board was also as good. Decent servings of quality ingredients and a decent amount of bread (don't you hate having to order additional bread when there's not enough supplied on the first round ?!). Personally I loved the rabbit terrine. I know some people get turned off by terrine, even moreso when there's game meat involved but this would be a great and gentle introduction into that world, not too strong but still allowing you to taste what terrine, and the core ingredient is like.<br/><br/>So with all that scoffed down, ably accompanied by a couple of Kronenbergs that was, a very enjoyable, that (note: their liquor license required that you had to be eating to be served alcohol - no trouble for me but keep that in mind if you're just looking for a few quiet ones under the sun or shade of an umbrella). <br/><br/>Much better than the Royal, more 'space', less noise, better food, more relaxed atmosphere, same view. A significantly more enjoyable option. <br/><br/>Have made a note to try the Partisan at a normal lunch time and see what else that menu holds....

We couldn't get in to Toast so came here, despite the reviews. The setting was absolutely glorious, with outdoor tables under shade sails and a tree, right by the water. We were warned about a wait on both food and coffees, and were pleasantly surprised when everything turned up much sooner than anticipated. The croque Monsieur and Madame were both super tasty, with a lovely, bitey cheese. Coffee was lovely, service was fine and the setting was fabulous. All up a great experience.
Rosie
Disappointing. Had breakfast today, first issue was being told off by a glum faced waiter for not waiting to be seated. No signage advising this was the procedure, plenty empty tables. Then advised that if we want to order it would be 10 min for coffee and at least 40 mins for food....ordered a bloody mary which we retd as it was pretty shocking, salt & pepper were empty, food when it came was okay, but the wait just wasnt worth it.... ordered more coffees when the food came and were finished the food and the drinks still hadnt arrived. Would not return or recommend this place.....
Miamla123
Toast was packed so came here. Waited 45 mins for two breakfasts, no sugar on the table or in sight. Had toast, mushrooms and weird cinnamon flavoured roast tomatoes (possibly a mistake?) was ok but very overpriced compared to other Perth cafes.
Joe Table
Worst breakfast in Perth. Terrible, terrible service and horrible food.<br/>Ordered eggs benedict and pancakes which took over half an hour to arrive. If the food was good then it at least would have been worth the wait. Unfortunately it was not.<br/>30 minutes wait for the worst eggs benedict I've had and 3 small pancakes is unacceptable. Coffee was weak and bland.<br/>On top of all that, the food is way overpriced. I would not return even if it were free.
Monip26
We came here on a Sunday morning and whilst the options on the breakfast menu were somewhat fewer than at Toast the food was just as good if not better. We ordered the croque Madame which was wonderfully flavored (I'm a avid toasted Sandwich lover) and Jerez eggs which came served in a funky little pan with a delicious side of flat bread. The coffee was great although the iced mocha was WELL overpriced at $7.50. Service was average but much better organized than Toast next door. Will definitely be back to eat brekky here again.
The Phantom Eater
Nice place shame about the s e r v i ce.. My first time eating here was a bit of a mixed bag. Coffee was nice, the food was well presented and quite delicious, unfortunately we had to wait for 45 minutes for our meals , during which we were left entirely unattended. Which was a bit of a surprise as it wasn't all that busy. <br/>Also, the salt and pepper shakers didn't work .<br/>Coffee 8/10<br/>Food 8/10<br/>Service 5/10
CocktailGurl
Staff were nice and let us order to suit not just what was on the menu. Breakfast was yum. Yes a bit slow but worth it. Also take bookings which is a bonus coz it's busy.
Shafty
Breakfast is meh and service is mega slow. Go next door to toast, you'll be much happier

The West review couldn't have been more misleading. Confused waiters, raw gnocchi and bland fish do not warrant 15.5/20.

Extremely disappointing. Following a great review in the Weekend's West magazine, I made a booking for lunch on the 3rd for 5 to celebrate a birthday. I cannot express enough how very disappointing our experience was. It took a quite a few minutes to be seated while two of the wait staff looked for our booking, which we could see on the booking sheet at the front desk. Our table in the corner was lovely and we thought that we were in for a fabulous lunch. The specials menu looked very nice. 4 of us ordered from it - 3 ordered the pink snapper and 1 ordered the gnocchi, 1 person ordered from the regular menu and we ordered a salad and pomme frittes for the table. The waitress went away with our order and all was good, until about 20 minutes later when a different waiter came over and informed us that there had been a 'communication problem' and that the specials had sold out the night before and he just 'hadn't had time to rub them off'. This was extremely disappointing. Not only could we no longer have what we ordered but we had to wait 20 minutes to find this out, and be told by a different waiter. Our frustration did not end there. At 2.30 when we had not received our meals (our booking was for 1 pm) we made enquiries with the waitress. When our meals did eventually arrive, the items that were ordered from the regular menu were not delivered. The waiter told us that we didn't actually order these, but of course we had placed these orders with the waitress who took our original order! We weren't informed that the order we placed with the original waitress was now null and void! I understand that people make mistakes but the unapologetic reaction of the waiter was disappointing. The location is lovely and the décor and atmosphere of the restaurant is appealing but the extremely poor service, that saw one of their patrons leave on an empty stomach will ensure that we don't return to or recommend The Partisan.

Had a great night interesting food reasonably priced. Food is slow to come out but it is a cozy place to wait for freshly cooked food. From other reviews it seems as if breakfast has a different cook. People who go in the evening like us have a better ecperience. You can use the reasonably priced entrees as tapas

Lovely Lunch!. We (myself, sister and father)came to The Partisan for the first time today. Gorgeous setting (made even more beautiful when a pod of dolphins decided to visit). It was quiet, the male waiter was very friendly and patient. <br/><br/>Wait time was alittle long, but nothing ridiculous, my father had the pork belly- it was divine, perfectly slow roasted. My sister had the sourdough and garlic toast, she enjoyed it (though the garlic was alittle difficult to spread as it was made of entire cloves). I ordered the pumpkin soup special but they hadn't updated the sign, so I ended up with the potato, leek and bacon soup (they apologised and offered me a choice of something else but I was happy to have it), it was very nice, perfect amount, my only complaint would be that the toast that accompanied it was plain white bread, I would've paired it with something more robust. <br/><br/>I would think I will be back again, the quality was very good for the prices and we were very satisfied all up!

Awful, overpriced breakfast. Went to Partisan for breakfast this morning (6 June 2011). Ordred poached eggs on toast for $15 (slight rip off). To top off the overpriced breakfast, it was on chewy bread not much better than what I could have pulled out of my freezer. I then got slugged $7.50 for a glass of "orange juice" - it was half full of ice and tasted like cordial. We got no butter with the breakfast and no salt or pepper on the table. We then complained to the waiter (older guy) at the end. He did not apologise, told us that the juice was "freshly" squeezed a few days ago and that we should have asked for butter. This place is totally over priced, with very average food and below average service. The only plus point is the location. But overall, give it a miss. A child could cook better at home.
Poached Eggs On Toast
The Partisan is lovely outside and has a lovely view. Unfortunately everything else is average. Eggs on toast all slightly overcooked, average coffee and odd tasting juice. Do yourself a favour and wait for a table at Toast.

Good meal. Had dinner here last night. The food was much better than the last time we were here. My wife had pappardelle with slow roasted lamb, mushrooms and sweet onions - not bad. The lamb had a delicious flavour but was a bit chewy. I had roast pork belly, courgette and gratin potatoes also with caramelised onions. This was well cooked and presented but the onions were placed on top of one piece of the pork crackling and made it go soggy. We also had a salad which was really excellent. Service was very good - our waitress was friendly, efficient and informed.

I have been here three times now, each desperatly hoping that it will get better bit it never has. The older male waiter is neither competent this job nor does he ever make an apologies for being so. After a dissapointing breakfast of dry toast and a cold poached egg I went to pay. I had thought I would say something about the meal to the waiter when I went to pay but was so shocked when he said "oh you, the table who wanted their coffees, then butter, then salt" whilst rolling his eyes. Rather than say anything I will simply never return. Sorry I really had hoped with the perfect location this restaurant would be better.

Go the Partisan. I am a Big fan of the Partisan. Anyone who says the food is low quality here has rocks in their head, I would take these reviews with a pinch of salt. The food really is outstanding. Have a chat with one of the chef owners if you are around late at night, they can talk to you about some of the provenance of their well sourced menu, and will do so with passion no doubt. I have! Try the stuffed artichokes and the octopus for starters, although I am in favour of ordering about five smaller dishes and just munching away. The goat gnocchi is definitely a standout for main. I enjoy the Partisan in the evening as I can relax here, its comfy inside and outside, there is little creatures beer on tap which is always a good thing, and yes it's a great location but not exactly like every other formal restaurant in a great location, if you know what I mean. This is what stands out about The Partisan. I believe they know what they are doing, and from what I can tell they are in for the long haul and WILL last. I think it is very nasty and presumptuous indeed to make the asinine prediction, "they will not last". But I guess time will tell, and I for one will be very happy to keep frequenting this nice spot. And I don't work there by the way, I just vehemently disagree with "Jack" !!

Not good. Funny how five people (all of whom have done only one review) all went to this place on 27 April and thought it was wonderful. And funny how five people have recommended each of the reviews. This place must be getting desperate if it feels the need to try to manipulate Urbanspoon to counter all the bad reviews.<br/><br/>Let me tell you my experience. I've been to Partisan twice for dinner. Once soon after it opened and once a few week ago. On both occasions the food was poor quality and the service abysmal. This place has one of the best restaurant locations in Perth and it is a real shame that they appear unable to lift their game and serve good food and provide a decent level of service. When I'm out walking in the area in the evenings I notice that there are usually only ever a handful of people in Partisan while Blackbird and the Royal are packed. They will not last.
Renee Cusworth
Very nice!. Have been here a few times for dinners and one breakfast. Can't fault the food it was all very tasty and good portion sizes. Great service and the location is brilliant! Looks really nice at night and would be a great place to go for a few drinks and light meal before heading out. I will definitely be going back!
Sarah
More than satisfied. After organising a friends birthday there, the service was very prompt and friendly and all 10 of us left with tummys full and smiles on our faces. <br/>The Larder board with the braised lentils was one of the groups favourites followed closely by the juicey Pork Belly.<br/>I would Higly recommend giving this restaurant a go as its beautiful setting is just the begining of a fabulous dining experience. I also found it resonably priced for the quality of service and food.<br/>Id give it 2 thumbs up! and cant wait to return!!

DELISH!!. OMIGOD i'm in love with the gnocchi!<br/><br/>My girlfriends and i all agree that our visit to the partisan for lunch this weekend was absolutely faultless. Despite working over a holiday the staff actually looked happy to be there and catered to our every whim (villa maria sav blanc should be on tap!) and the food was AMAZING. Personally i never eat pasta when i'm out but i thought since i'd already eaten 80 easter eggs why the hell not? The goat gnocchi was the best thing i've ever eaten and along with the terrine we had for entree, the good company and the picturesque location (with good weather to boot) we stayed until closing time!<br/><br/>Thanks the partisan!!!
Jill
Best in town. I have travelled all over the world in the past 5 years and have never tasted a Pasta Dish anywhere including Italy, that has the same taste, texture, and flavour as the PATISAN. I'm not sure who the chef was but he sure knows how to cook a mean pasta dish. The staff were a delight, and the service was very impressive. As a representative of the media, I dont normally comment but this was too good not to..... thanks I will be back

Expensive and Poor Service. Went there on Easter Tuesday - seems like they didn't plan their roster to have enough staff on a public holiday. Nice spot by the river but we had to remind the waiter constantly that we were there. He tried to be funny (was extremely NOT funny and hinted that he wanted a tip - dream on!). Food ok but any enjoyment outweighed by lack of interest in any service. Cheese platter came out with Jatz Crackers - as if they had run out of water crackers and ran to the IGA. Would NOT recommend it at all.

Fake juice, bad fruit, small serves. I just returned from breakfast with a friend at this lovely location - shame that's all that is lovely about it. The orange juice I ordered I expected to be freshly squeezed and in a large glass, given it was $8.50, yet tasted like something reminicent of a powered orange (in colour only) sports drink. My fresh fruit salad was far from fresh, with the watermelon tasting rotten, which I removed from the bowl to my napkin, and the rest not much better. I did pick out a few crisp pices of apple -hardly enough to satisfy the tastebauds, let alone appetite. My friends bircher museli was plain and served in a bowl the size of which was suitable for feeding cereal to a 3 year old (as was my fruit). Ovrerall, at the end of the breakfast, when we mentioned to the wait staff that the fruit had been bad and so the meal barely touched, the reply was "Oh, ok. That will be $37.50" - a bill I regret now that had been paid in full. A place I would not return to, let alone recommend.

Good stuff. I moved to East Perth a year ago and was pleaseed to find a little bit of Melbourne tucked away in what is a bit of a culinary waste land. despite proximity to Mt Lawley there is a lot of chez average in East Perth. On the water though there are a couple of good players Partisan being one of them. I ve dined 3 times and coffeed a few more. <br/>Service is friendly and welcoming, the menu tasty and balanced with generous portions for the price - can thoroughly recommend the "Larder Board" with a glass of Rose. Particularly fond of the aspect across the East Perth via duct.... this kitchen is doing some interesting stuff... well done team 8 outta 10!

Disappionted. We went to the Partisan as the royal was full.<br/><br/>Good points - There's a great atmosphere here, and the decor is funky. <br/><br/>Bad points - We waited so long for our larderboard (the restaurant wasn't that busy), and it wasn't very good anyway. <br/>-The scotch fillet wasn't great, it was a bit dry, especially with the chips and nothing to dip them in.<br/>-The only vegetables seemingly available were green beans.<br/><br/>Won't be going back.

Nice way to spend a night.... Perched on a barstool by the water, we spent the evening at Partisan and had a great night. <br/><br/>The staff's off beat manner provided some light entertainment while the view kept us busy during what was a slightly long wait for entree then mains. But realistically, it was a Saturday night and it was nice to enjoy our food and wine at leisure. We started with some bread, prosciutto salad and octopus. Each was tasty - not delicate but lovely rustic fare. We then moved onto mains - steak (rare) and gnocchi with capretto. The gnocchi with capretto was fantastic and the steak was really well cooked with homemade frites. A bit more sauce and it would have been hard to fault.<br/><br/>Overall the meal was really well priced for the quality of food while the service was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. For anyone looking for a casual meal by the river we would definitely recommend Partisan - particularly as the temperature drops and rustic meals become order of the day.

Julie G below has it right. Good food, slightly expensive, great location. Senior waiter is rude, but younger ones are good.
JulieG
Food quite nice, but not too exciting. Served slowly by a rude & brusque senior waiter & a couple of nicer younger staff. Specials menu not clear about difference between entree/tapas items & mains.
Lee Cos
Great meal and great atmosphere. Four of us went for a night out at the partisan and although I had read unfavorable reviews beforehand I decided I would give it a go. Well we have just got home and I must say we had a wonderful meal and a very pleasant evening. i will be going back the waiter was wonderful and very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. I would suggest to the people who didn't like it the first time to give it another go before you give up on it you may be pleasntly surprised.

Two words. Dont Bother!<br/>Terrible service<br/>Average food<br/>A complete waist of a lovely location and 80 minutes of my life.
The Pescatarian
A place to relax. This is a regular haunt. It's not the best food or service by any means, but we just like to sit outside by the water, unhurried, and nibble tapas style plates of food. The prices are high for what you get - but that's Perth.

61% and heading south. Despite the sleazy maitre d, my partner and I decided it was worth a go on a hot Sunday afternoon, needless to say this was a prelude to a forgettable afternoon. A clearly disinterested waitress who seemed bothered by our presence and indifferent service followed, including being encouraged by our maitre d to wait for the transcribed "specials" to appear on the chalk board rather than expect him to recite it to us, (sorry my bad for trying to be a customer). Anyway I suspect the heat made me capitulate to not leaving the premises at that point and giving this joint a go (bad move no.2). Suffice to say that the icing on the cake was the walnut salad with NO walnuts and the sudden "surprise" when alerted to this fact, only to then receive a belated apology that they had run out. An offer was made to restore the walnut count (?from the local IGA), but there did not appear to have a time limit to this retrieval process. So alas another restaurant disaster which won't be reproduced in the near future.

Overpriced with rude service. Went there for coffees with a few friends. The restaurant was almost empty bar a couple of tables out front. <br/><br/>Sitting down, we didn't receive any menus and instead were asked what coffees we would like. Coffee orders taken , we then asked what sort of cakes and desserts they had. The wait staff asked the guy behind the counter to which he said 'I don't know" and left it at that. No attempt to find out , no excuses given just a 'I don't know' callous attitude. <br/><br/>While we were still drinking our coffees , waitstaff came back and handed us our itemised bills. Way to make you feel like you need to get out quick smart! Of course, if they had just told us they were either expecting more tables, or closing .. anything really.. we would've politely gone. <br/><br/>$8.50 for a bland cup of coffee. Not a typo. Even in a posh place, 8.50 is excessive. <br/><br/>So point of the story? Don't bother.

Good Meal Out. I had dinner with 4 other friends for a small b'day get together. The atmosphere was great at night, the service was prompt and food was great! I was abit sceptical at first from the reviews posted on here, but was pleasantly surprised. For mains most of us had the lamb friscassee with potato gnocchi and that was delicious. The flavour was very different and the lamb was soft and tender with very good potato gnocchi to compliment. We had the sweet pumpkin silk tart, the pannacotta and the chocolate brownie with orange mascapone and they were all very well done. The pumpkin tart was a very different flavour for a dessert and probably won't be for everyone but it was tasty regardless if you are one who likes pumpkin. The pannacotta with pear was excellent with the pannacotta smooth and creamy and not plastic tasting like many other places. THe chocolate brownie is quite rich so I'd recommend it to be shared. I was pleased with the overall food and service so would definitely recommend it.

Once is enough. Always open to new places, 3 friends and I went for Sat morning brekky/brunch. Right next door to Toast (which I had been to and loved!) so was hopeful The Partisan would match that. Lovely setting. <br/>It was busy when we arrived at our reserved table. But no menus on the table, and had to hunt someone down to ask for one, oh, and for the water as well. That was not a good start...<br/>Coffee orders taken - check.<br/>Waiting for the water (it was a v hot & humid day as well).<br/>We order our food - two butter milk pancakes, Bircher muesli and poached eggs on toast with mushies. <br/>Waiting for water...<br/>Food comes after considerable wait.<br/>Plate of two pancakes - obviously overcooked, almost to point of being burnt. They looked like they had been deep fried to boot - crusty batter around edge. First mouthful was a lot of nothingness, except taste of oil. Second mouthful was more nothingness - where was the taste of the ground coffee - i could see it but not taste it. I had to ask for more honey to give it some kind of kick. <br/>Friends poached eggs looked v sad on two boring slices of white bread. And no butter, Oh, and so sorry forgot the mushrooms... More waiting...<br/>Bircher muesli was apparently OK. <br/>Summary: Lots of waiting - on our part, not the staffs, and boring food with not much taste. By the time we left - around 12, Toast was still going strong, and The Partisan was desolate. Surely the owners/managers must be asking themselves why???

Not a Partisan Supporter. $18 for two eggs, bacon and tomato cumin jam adrift on a tough disc of flat bread. True, the eggs came nicely poached as requested, but this was a sad dish. All the more bereft as the requested bacon went missing somewhere between the order and the kitchen (and missing not just from my dish, but from another in my party). Lacking seasoning and decidely limp in flavour, the eggs just sat there on the chewy bread looking rather bored. Follow up salt and pepper requests (three times before the cock crowed) finally produced some much needed flavour - except the pepper grinder was empty.<br/><br/>The errant bacon was found after some needless checking of order ("I'll just see if it was on the docket" she says. Well I don't really care whether the docket was right or not, just give me my bacon before my meal goes cold). It arrived for the last quarter of my meal.<br/><br/>Never again.

Disappointed. The family (5 Adults and 3 Children ) recently visited this restaurant, everything started well, lovely views across the inlet , nice chatty staff. Entree was the Larderboards which were very tasty. These were followed by 6 main meals and 2 childrens meals. The portions were very small with vegetables as extras. The 2 children meals were very small so I asked the waiter/owner if it would be possible for the children to have some french fries. I was told that they only serve french fries with steak. He suggested that perhaps next time it would be a good idea if the children (age 9 and 11) ordered from the main menu not the childrens. He did concede and bring them a slice of bread each. Needless to say we will not be visiting Partisan again.

Tedious service, no food left!. My friend and I made the daring assumption that we could wander down to the East Perth waterfront at 6pm on a balmy Sunday night and have a light meal and a drink without drama .... <br/><br/>We arrived at Partisan and were asked quite rudely (before even being greeted) if we had a booking. No we didn't . It wasn't packed, there were at least 8 waterside tables empty and only three tables in the whole place had customers. it was not busy. At all. <br/><br/>We were shown to a small table away from the water and when we asked to be moved to an empty table next to the waterfront we were told they were all booked. I asked the owner to explain why we could not sit at another table and he explained he didnt want to rush his customers...... <br/><br/>Most of them remained empty for the hour and a half we were there. <br/><br/>I don't understand how Perth restaurants block ALL tables and have no space for walk in customers.... do they want more turnover and $$? No?? Ok then. <br/><br/>While the waiter took our drink orders we were told two of the probably 9 entrees were not available, and when we decided upon another two we were told yet another one that we had chosen wasn't available. The waitress said something along the lines of "It's Sunday so we are running out of stuff" <br/><br/>We were also told that the wines we had chosen only had one glass each left.....after we had ordered and started drinking them.<br/><br/>We ended up sharing an entree and had a glass of wine, and it really was beautiful at our not so waterfront table.......<br/><br/>We had a nice time but we didn't want to put the staff out any more by actually trying to order anything to eat - so we wandered up for a beautiful meal at the Vietnamese restaurant up the road instead. <br/><br/>Partisan? Don't bother.....

Excellent! Table of 8 great wine food (bar the steak - very average). The larder board was an excellent way to start the meal with a great selection of nibbles. Well worth visiting!

There's a wonderful line in Leonard Cohen's THE PARTISAN … I took my gun and vanished. Sadly, it's very appropriate for the East Perth restaurant of the same name. After an evening of ludicrous ineptitude, I took my family and vanished.<br/><br/>I had taken the precaution of calling in to The Partisan restaurant earlier in the day, to book an outside table and let them know that as well as six adults, there would be a six year old and a 22 month old (needing a High Chair). Nothing was a problem and they had a baby chair, it augured well, as the restaurant had previously been a favourite of mine, Bradleys.<br/><br/>We arrived just after 7.00pm, to a genuine welcome, our table was set, with the High Chair and menus and wine lists in place. The staff disappeared. Then a delightful young lady came over, inquiring about drinks, we ordered and asked for water. At the same time a young chap with a lovely attitude asked about food and we asked for two Tasting Plates (on his recommendation) and enquired as to a Kids Menu, (which they had).<br/><br/>That's when things started to go astray. As we ordered the tasting plates, I had a sixth sense that neither of the staff had actually taken the order on board. The wine (and kids drinks) arrived almost immediately, as did three bottles of tap water. But the tap water smelt of dishcloth. Hmm. Oh well, it was 30c with 80% humidity, so we poured it.<br/><br/>Then nothing. After about 30 minutes and watching other people who'd arrived after us commence on their entrees, I went to the counter. There was confusion. I was right, no order had been taken. "The Chef will 'plate-up' now, we're very sorry." I asked for more wine and perhaps some bread and olive oil, it was not a problem. <br/><br/>But it was, neither arrived. Fortunately, after a further 20 minutes, the tasting plates did. I then went to the counter again and asked for the wine I'd ordered. The young lady serving outside gave me a nervous smile, I felt sorry for her, she seemed the only one with enough experience to understand that there were serious problems.<br/><br/>The wine was delivered, at the same time, I asked why nobody had taken our main course orders. "Oh, are you ready to order them sir" We'd been there just over an hour and it was a battle to get anything. "Yes we would thank you," I replied, "the young ones will get hungry." There were genuine apologies and our orders were taken.<br/><br/>An HOUR later!!! I once again went to the counter. By this time, we'd all agreed that we'd go home and order pizza. Both the waiters (sorry, I simply cannot abide that nonsense term Waitperson), apologised profusely, the chap behind the counter explained they'd only re-opened that day after the Christmas / New Year break and that … "the Chef will plate up immediately sir."<br/><br/>Five minutes later the food was brought out to the table, but by this time the unfed children were tired, hungry and fractious, in turn, their parents were nervous and upset, as was I, as host, with everyone trying to calm the kids, eat and leave. <br/><br/>The food? Nice, but not worth going back for, no pizzazz and no fish - "Sorry sir, we didn't get around to ordering any today. When I went to pay the bill, there were more apologies and more explanations, but Ann and I had just returned from Margaret River and a stunning meal, wines and service at Lamonts. The Partisan was charging top dollar ($40.00+) for wines that I can buy at around $14.00 and seemingly, they didn't want to sell me anyhow. They're providing tap water out of smelly bottles, along with utterly chaotic service. There was not even an offer of a discount, for what had been a frustrating, dreadful evening. I quietly paid and left. None of us will be back. Thankfully the staff told me the restaurant was not named after the famous song. Once again 'misquoting Cohen's lyrics … "there were eight of us in the evening, there are none of us this morning."

Took some interstate guests to The Partisan on Tuesday night. Sensational food, wine and service. Our waiter was very attentive, recommended dishes and wine and told a funny oyster story. We ate and drank til late. Great oysters, rabbit pate and pork loin. Green beans and potatoes complimented it. Going back tomorrow night for my partners birthday. Can't wait! A real little secret in East Perth and beautiful near the water!

Disappointing. I had high hopes for this place but they were sadly dashed last weekend. I had the "Bitque Steak" which was a thin slab of very ordinary meat streaked with fat. It also had a fried egg on top smothered in peri peri sauce. ($29) The worst steak I have had in years. My wife had the sizzling prawns which were like little rubber bullets. On the credit side they do good hand cut chips and salads. I won't be going back.

Nonplussed. Not a good impression of this place. Firstly we were seated outside even though massive rain clouds were looming. The menu at first glance looked delicious, however when our mains were served they were on cold plates and smaller than what I'd expect on entree to be. The steak looked like a 2 minute steak we could have got from Coles with a fried egg sitting on top - I seriously could have made this at home. We were also charged $11 for a bottle of still water. This seems to me to be more than a little excessive. The food and service was not amazing and it ended up raining which would have been fine if we were seated indoors - which by the way was empty. We huddled under the outdoor umbrellas - which had no outdoor heaters - with the other diners and finished out cold meals. Needless to say, I won't be going back.

Right near the water in Claisebrook Cove in East Perth, you’ll find the Partisan on the water. Its right next door to Toast , and certainly seems to take some of their overflow on busy days like the Sunday we visited. Inside the Partisan you’ll find lots of wood and colour, a compliment to their watery surroundings.

...the views were spectacular, but unfortunately, there is more to breakfast dining than the ambience. The few encounters we had with service was a mixed bag, with the general attitude of the waitresses not really up to par with the friendly, efficient service I’ve had in the past. The wait for the food also was a good 30 minutes, which was puzzling considering we appeared to have slotted into the end of breakfast service, and should have been competing with fewer customers at that stage.

The Mediterranean menu was pleasing to me, being quite the Francophile and noticing the Croque Monsieur and Madame, croissants and the incorrectly spelt “Moules Marinare” (Mariniere). There was also Jerez Eggs (eggs in a roasted tomato and cumin sauce with chorizo and chilli-jam) - sounded like a zingier twist on Huevos con chorizo, though I doubt there is any Sherry actually used in the dish or that they do this version in Jerez to justify the name. Sadly I only noticed this after we had ordered, so didn’t get to try it. We ended up ordering a Croque Monsieur and a Chocolate croissant to share.

As it was an early start, I traded breakfast for a longer stay in bed but by mid morning I regretted that decision because I was famished. So we decided to head over to nearby Claisebrook Cove for brunch.

The Partisan won the 2011 best new restaurant in The West’s Good Food Guide so I had high hopes. The service was great and we were quickly greeted and seated. The menu had quite a few different lunch options from your humble croques (French style toasted sandwich) to your fancier fish of the day, larder board, moules marinare and pommes frites (mussels and chips) and pasta of the day.

We decided to break our usual Sunday tradition again and stop in at The Partisan as opposed to our regular favourite pit stop at Toast . We had plans later that afternoon to meet up with the in-laws so we had to trim our standard epic hike down to a more time manageable ten kilometre power walk.

What is here is food of true substance and quality. The menu roams freely between southern European and Mediterranean influences without feeling too scattered. Expect to see French terrines sitting comfortably alongside Middle Eastern grilled chicken with harissa and tabboulleh or an Italian-style pan-fried mullet with romesco sauce, definitely must go back and try it out at lunch or dinner. We decided to share our breakfa

To start we ordered the Larder board ($24) to share which had Rabbit & rosemary terrine, chorizo sausage, shaved prosciutto, fennel & caraway marinated olives,

We had both never been there before so we were excited to try somewhere new and it was quite easy to find, right next to Toast in Claisebrook Cove. Even though they have plenty of tables outside in the shade it was boiling hot so we went for the preferred option, inside with the air-conditioner. We had both never been there for breakfast before so we were excited to try somewhere new. Inside the Partisan there were quite a few things which were a bit odd. As my dear friend described, it is almost a mix of the Cabin, with the Greenhouse with too many weird things going on. It pushed it over into the trying too hard realm if you know what I mean? We asked for a couple of glasses of water, which were served in two Little Creatures beer bottles, and some coffees. Trying to decide what we were going to order we were surprised to discover that we had two different menus. Not

I love going for breakfast anywhere near the water and The Partisan have really taken advantage of their location on Claisebrook Cove and outside tables and bar style seating are shaded by umbrellas and a beautiful Jacaranda Tree.
