The food here is great. I recommend the lamb rogan josh and tandoori prawns. Takeaway portions aren’t that big
Fantastic Indian restaurant and what great service you get.
First time here at the shehnai and like another reviewer can't believe I have never been before and it's just round the corner from where I live .
Have to say the food ( we had butter chicken and chicken korma) was the best we ever had, the service was exceptional and I can understand why it's advisable to book being so busiy on a Wednesday night .
Food was good however, takeaway menu was quite limited. They could have had briyani dishes included. The lamb with okra was delicious but very oily.
I’m very grateful this place is around the corner from me because since trying the Lamb Rogan Josh here 3 years ago I’ve never found another place that does it better. There pilau rice is also 10/10. Only thing I could fault is it’s slightly pricey but it’s so worth it!
Great Indian food at Shehnai. The food is very fresh and also delicious. They also put a good amount of meat in the curry. A local Ocean Reef favourite for years and I believe years to come.
We have eaten here a few times and really enjoyed it but last night surpassed all expectations.
We have stopped ordering fish curries in many places as a lot of restaurants use Basa and we won't eat it. Last night we inquired what fish was used in the curry and were delighted to learn it was Rankin Cod. The chef even came out and showed us the piece of fish he was going to cook. The Goan Fish Curry was amazing and quite possibly the nicest I have ever had....and that's a big call!!
We finished off the meal with an incredible bowl of Kulfi.
If you love real traditional Indian food then I highly recommend this place!!
Best Goan Fish Curry ever!! This place is the best. The food is always beautiful and the chef is amazing !!! The kulfi rocks!!
I have eaten at hundreds of Indian restaurants, including places in India, and Shehnai Tandoor is the best. I highly recommend it.
I'm not a big lover of Indian food but when I do get it, this is the place I go. It's not a big restaurant but the service is great and the food is quality

Delicious indian food, consistently great. Staples of Indian cuisine are done generously and beautifully. Love the prawn dishes but have sampled most of the menu as my son is a vegetarian. Highly recommend, mostly enjoy take away but have also enjoyed a dine in.
Have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and were not disappointed when we finally came here. We chose Chicken Kashmiri, Palak Gosht, Garlic naan, steamed rice and raita. The meat was tender and the sauces full of flavour. The garlic naan was cooked perfectly as was the rice. The raita was the perfect condiment for the curries. The restaurant has a warm atmosphere and the staff are helpful and attentive. We have tried many indian restaurants in the area, since moving here, to try and find one which equalled the quality of our favourite one further north, and I think we have finally found the one we will return to time and time again. Thanks for the excellent meal and hospitality.
It has been so incredibly difficult to even try this place! Every time we think about going, it happens to be closed. Finally, we managed to actually think ahead and book a table! Dad has been here quite a few times, but it was my first (why wasn’t I invited to the other times?? haha). I love Indian curries – spicy vindaloos, creamy dhals, fragrant biryanis, I love them! So I was actually kind of excited to head here and drown my rice/naan with curry sauce haha.
Have never been disappointed, good food and very friendly staff. As far as Indian cuisine goes you won't beat Shehnai Tandoori.
We have being eating at this restaurant for many years and there is always plenty of food to take home with you at the end of the night for lunch the next day. Would highly recommend it! :)
Great local restaurant. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere and cracking food at very reasonable prices. Helpful and professional staff. It's no sort of fine dining but doesn't pretend to be. Never a bad experience here.
Best indian in Perth!. Have been a regular customer for many years now and we get takeaway from here at least once a month. The butter chicken is so yummy!
The best. I have eaten here once a week for the past 5 years. WHY ? yes it is local however the food is amazing. Never once have we had to complain about any dish. Everything is made the traditional way and the flavours are very very good. The only negative is the decor and it gets very busy ( people come from Applecross to eat here).
I would highly recommend it.
We had takeaway from this resturant very nice test, chicken korma is so tasty I love it totally recommend .
Update December 2016: Recently returned from Melbourne where we tried two accredited suburban Indian restaurants. And guess what, the Shenai still scores higher on flavour and quality.
Restaurants come and go but the Shenai has become the yardstick for Pakistan and Indian food in Perth. I read the other reviews and realise that this restaurant scores across the menu from korma and butter chicken to madras and vindaloo. It comes down to the use of prime cuts of meat, fresh spices and good cooking; we love this place.
Great food an service everytime never been disappointed.food very high quality standard.
Butter chicken, pilau rice and pappadams are really good. Gets really busy for takeaway orders, need to order early (ordering at 5 for 6.30 pick up) but definately worth it.
BEST CHICKEN KORMA!. By far the most authentic...have been coming here for years since they opened and never been disappointed ,decent portion sizes and friendly atmosphere. The Chicken Korma is the Bomb!!! you must try it mmmm! Enjoy!
AMAZING BUTTER CHICKEN!! It's very sweet but I like it cooked that way. The staff are pleasant and its great that it is byo and has a bottle shop next door.
Good Indian in the suburbs. Been here a couple of times and never had a bad meal, tastes have enough spice but like many Indians spicy doesn't mean hot so if yoiu like a bit of chilli you need to ask, there was enough to make the curries tasty. the layout has a lot of booth style seating which gives a good mix of privacy and also acts to kill the noise, and the decor also has a lot of soft cloth sound buffers in Indian style. 2 curries, pilau rice naan and daal was more than the two of us could eat and the waitstaff were efficient and friendly. We will be back
Best Indian in Perth. We've been eating at this Resaurant since it first opened and have never had a bad meal. The service is always excellent along with the food. Love it completely.
Go there !. Small restaurant and out of the way, its a bit odd that you have to go into the shopping centre to use the toilet, you will pay a bit more than other Indian restaurants but it's just AWSOME !
You have to go there; if you like an Indian curry it's a must.
If you haven't been, go even if it's out of your way.
We have been going to this place for years. The Beef Vindaloo & Beef Badami are hard to go past!
BEST INDIAN IN PERTH. I used to work here , my first job when I was 16 years old ( now 24 ) . I used to think the food their was the best I'd ever had .. now 6 years on and I can honestly say - Zaheer makes the best butter chicken EVER !
At 5pm we would start answering the phones , and within 15 minutes - there was already a 2 hour wait on takeaway ! Now this just says something ! People would call up and wait for 3 hours for a butter chicken - that's how good it is .
Zaheer takes alot of pride in his cooking , and to my knowledge he is the only chef who cooks the food . You are guranteed excellent indian food everytime without fail .
Takeaway. Got a takeaway from Shehnai Tandorri last night with friends. Have to say it is such a relief to first of all find a Pakistani Indian restaurant in Perth (Pakistani food being my favourite) secondly the mains were top notch, so tasty bursting with flavour. My favourite was the Palak Gosht amazing, Popudums were a bit old and the onion badgies were not the freshest but still tasty. The girl that served us was not overly helpful and is making her job even more unbareable by being misserable, wasnt impressed with her service at all. I would however like to go and dine it the food was top notch:-) I even had the leftovers for lunch today. Yummieeeeeee
Butter Chicken. This would be the best Indian Restaurant in Perth, amazing food, butter chicken is a stand out for me and my children, my wife loves the lamb korma, good service, big portions, you will not walk out hungry, the booths are a bit tight but some could say cozy, BYO make it an affordable night.
Stand out!. Always its good, not cheap, good flavours but light on if you like hotter. Sweet venue to eat in always full and bustling but if getting take away allow a very very long time.
Clean flavours, good spice balance, proper amount of oil/cream.
Definately not a drunken curry dinner when you want your sinus cleared out, much classier.
DONT KNOW WHERE THE WATER VIEW IS????
Best Indian in Perth! Been there twice with friends and have not been disappointed. The food is simply exquisite and some friendly staff to match. Will be returning
Yummy. The food is always great, every time we go. The butter chicken is awesome, definitely the best in Perth. Portions are a good size, we always over-order and end up with yummy leftovers for lunch the next day. The naan bread and some of the veggie curries we've tried were delicious too.
Would highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates quality Indian food. And even those who don't should try it anyway.
Expensive but good. The owner of this place, Zaheer, is perhaps the best Pakistani and Indian cook in town. Butter chicken and vindaloo's are to die for. Place is very expensive compared to other restaurant's but well worth it.
Fantastic Food!. We have been eating at this cosy Indian restaurant for years.
The food is amazing and definitely the best Indian/Pakistan food in Perth! and B.Y.O which is always great!
I highly recommend the Saag lamb, Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Kashmiri.
Butter Chicken. Amazing amazing food, not just the butter chicken!
Our Little Secret. We are lucky to live only about 10 minutes away and often go there, just my wife and I. If taking guests and you get a booth for 4 then things are a little crowded..
I always go for the RhoganJosh or Beef Vindaloo (well, sometime the Butter Chicken). Hotter is BETTER. Mrs always goes for the Bombay Prawns.
Start with Pappadoms, and some Chicken Tandoori. Take a bottle (or two) of your favourite vino. Way to go. We always make sure we are not flying away the next day though. (Johnny Cash)!.
Simply the best!. We travel for half an hour for this gem. Fabulous little indian restaurant hidden away for only those in the know!
The chef is a marvel - I recommend the Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Prawns and the Paratha. I am still trying to work out what he puts in his Pilau Rice. Delicious!
Give it a try and you will not be disappointed. :-)
My favourite place for authentic Indian and Pakistan food.
Mixed entree, chicken tika, vegetable samosas, tandoori prawns, all recommended.
The chicken vindaloo is flavoursome, sour and hot! Palak gosht, succulant lamb, smooth and peppery; the chicken Kashmeri is mild and a good mix with the hotter dishes. The rogan gosht is a definitive lamb curry that will not disappoint.
Finally, if there is room, the home made korfi icecream will send you home with a great sense of satisfied wellbeing. Enjoy!
Fantastic!. This is a little GEM of a restaurant! Consistently tasty food - small serves but the food is always great and the service is usually good too... Very reasonable BYO charges and it's always full! BEST Butter chicken in Perth!
Still sitting at the table eating but had to write a review! Best Indian ive ever had. Meat samosas were amazing, lamb korma even better & the service/waitresses were so helpful. Will be coming back here to make our way through the menu ! :)
I have been going to Shenai for years and am yet to receive a disappointing meal! The food is authentic and of an exceptional quality with the service being very good as well. Best curry in Perth!
Probably the best tandoori in Perth, the way all meats are prepared is exquisite.
Absolutely gr8 food and the beautiful staff were amazing. Love love love and totes recommend 😊😍👍
This restaurant is amazing the food is so good. The front of house service is also good considering its very young staff members, so polite and friendly. High recommended this place, only taken 15 years to find a decent Indian restaurant, we will be back for sure. Just like curry's back home!!!!!
