Consistent always. I used to only drink here but recently discovered a great food menu too. The staff make you feel a little bit special without any pomp. Still more of a pit stop before heading out, really good for dates.

One of the original laneway bars in Perth, Helvetica is found by wandering down a cobblestone lane off Howard Street, and is directly behind another bar of note, Andaluz, and what was the WA Club. It is a relaxed, informal, friendly bar, with a cool atmosphere and hip music as well, boasting somewhat rustic décor and mismatched furniture – but it all adds to the charm.
Cosy place with cool interior tucked away from the Main Street. Service is decent even if it's a bit busy. Cocktails are usually good 👌🏼 it's a great place to catch up with friends.
Having come over from Melbourne for work how delighted was I to stumbled upon Helvetica! Whilst the range isn't huge it's range is more than enough to satisfy even the most exquisitive enthusiast. Very comfortable and relaxing environment with guys behind the bar that know their stuff. We'll done fellas, I'll be back again each trip over!
Great little bar tucked away in a cobblestone alleyway - so Melbourne and so good. Looking forward to a whisky flight or two and nibbling on food completely up my alley.
Awesome hidden bar with vintage jazzy music and dim lighting. Great ambiance. We had some Coopers beer and a shot of absinthe. The bartender couldn't melt the sugar so he crushed a sugar cube in it instead. The green fairy was still pretty good.
Square room bar with great service but not much with the atmosphere. Good cocktail list with some overlap with Andaluz! Second time here and not a convert. But they have moscato!
Hidden bar tucked down an alley, filled with serious whiskey nerds. Being a whiskey nerd myself, I found the staff knowledgeable and friendly, and they even let me have a taste of the new Ardbeg day drop, Dark Cove. It's a shame this place doesn't get more attention, as they are doing it right.
Drop in if you are in Perth and want to go somewhere cool.
This review is based purely on drinks. Stumbled across Helvetica on NYE by following random strangers into a back alley. What a great decision - the place was packed but we still found seats and the drinks were well balanced and delicious. Highly recommended.

It is well hidden, one of the oldest small bar in Perth, but still one of the amazing one! Their whiskey choice is endless, so we need the bartenders help to choose! Great venue for after work drinks!
The first small bar of Perth. Named after a font. Guy that used to run Il lido does himself proud here. Nice dark spot with nice dark drinks
Came here while I had time to kill while travelling. Instantly I new I made the right choice. Not the biggest whisky selection I have seen but the recommendations given were all spectacular. The bartender new his stuff and his knowledge along with the whisky provided an experience one could not forget.
Came here for mate's birthday drinks. What a gem of a place. Chilled out, great bar staff, awesome cocktails and best of all mature clientale outnumbered hipsters. What a relief! Will be back to try more cocktails and Japanese whisky.
Great vibe in this little hidden gem. We went for a pre-dinner drink but could have stayed all night! Really chilled, relaxed vibe with a good crowd. Excellent service by the bar man which seems hard to find these days. Shame we live in Sydney so can't go back but will definitely recommend this to friends
Wonderful customer service and engaging staff!. My husband and I visited Helvetica for the first time on our annual Perth CBD weekend getaway last Friday and were really impressed. So great to experience wonderful customer service and engaging staff who were only too happy to answer our questions about the various cocktails they were whizzing up and the history of the bar. This place is literally a hidden gem - we have told all our friends and will be back next time we are in town.
Friendly staff and great wine. I often come here with friends in the evening for an after work drink. Fantastic atmosphere with great staff who are friendly.
Awesome little place. Great tapas and wine and best of all really great staff. Will definitely be back soon!
Perfect. Love everything about Helvetica. I'm not a whiskey drinker and the wine list is small... but I explained what I like, tasted some suggestions... great choice!
Simple and clean, like its namesake font. Like its namesake font, Helvetica bar is a simple, with clean lines and is easy to read in smaller sizes. Alright, so the analogy can only go so far, but if you are looking for a little hideaway in the Perth CBD, Helvetica is a great option.
Wonderful. A hidden gem, it took us a while to find Helvetica but what a treat!
The staff are excellent recommending cocktails that are not even on the menu!
We enjoyed a lovely evening with a really chilled out vibe! I would highly recommend Helvetica. What was even better was there is no Face Book page or check in status so it really is a bit special :) :)
A fav!!. Been here on numerous occassions and will keep returning.
From the exclusivity, to the ambience, to the crowd and the drinks - this place is a real hit.
Great lane way bar in the CBD with a magic whisky selection with much more besides.
The attentive team love their drinks, spent time talking about them and were generous with sampling.
Small but well matched wines and no shortage of love with preparing a cocktail for a thirsty and interested punter.
Hidden away, this bar was worth hunting out! Good wine selection (for those not into whiskey) and lots of nooks and seating options. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We'll be back.
Back Alley Bar. Went here last night on a night out with friends to have a few drinks and a chat. We were warned by the friendly security guy at the door that we would need cash as the eftpos terminal inside had just died a slow death. It was quiet busy inside on the ground level but we still managed to get a round of drinks without much of a wait.
For those of you uninitiated with this establishment most of the cocktails are based on Tequila or Whiskey so if your not a fan of those types of cocktails then maybe another place would be better suited for you. Having said that if you are into that then they are great and they also sell the normal assortment of other drinks. We were just drinking gin and tonics.
We managed to find a good quiet corner upstairs as a heap of people had just left that area (must have been great timing as this place is usually packed out) and sat down to have a few drinks. When it was time for another round of drinks I was approached on the way to the bar by the very friendly and attentive waitstaff who were more than happy to serve me. To be fair the downstairs bar was a LOT busier.
He even suggested we give the eftpos teminal ago as we were running low on cash and this proved successful. What luck! This then turned into table service until we left and they even provided us with glasses of water without us having to ask in between rounds or drinks. Very professional.
Never eaten here yet but a good place for a few drinks with a nice vibe to it. Getting a seat can be a bit of a challenge though.
Favourite Spot for a Drink. Staff are always friendly, knowledgable and willing to chat to you about your selection. They don't make any new comers feel uncomfortable or out of place. Plus there is a small, tasty range of bar snacks incase you get a bit peckish.
Come for the Whiskey, Stay for the Chorizo. Went with a few friends for a catch up last night, a few of them hadn't been before and everyone said the same thing; "What an awesome place."
As always, the service was fantastic; I usually know what i want when i have a whiskey, but being able to ask the barman to recommend one and always ending up with something fantastic in hand is a definite WIN. The range of drink never ceases to amaze and entice.
Then there was the tapas, if you only have 2 things from the menu, make sure it is the Corn Chips & Roast Capsicum Dip, and the Roasted Chorizo w/Lemon (when you think Chorizo, usually its thin angle slices that come to mind..? Not here, big thick chunks of the sausage, absolutely brilliant).
OMG. The guys at the bar are brilliant. They appreciate and look after their customers. They take time to talk to them and in my case provide a bit of education. The chorizo is smoked and chunked. The feta is smooth and spreadable. Fabulous with a Hendricks G&T. (Guys, can you do bigger olives. Those tiny ones are just plain annoying!). The music is always just right for creating a good vibe. This is a cool destination. You just have to be in the know to find it!
LOVVEEEE this place! Have been here quite a few times now either for a cheeky drink before heading out or just to catch up with friends. The staff are friendly and knowledgable, the whiskey range is beyond amazing and the wines great as well. Took some friends here last Saturday night when we were looking for a quick bite to eat around 9.30pm... Walked straight up stairs and there was room for 5 of us on the couches, the lovely waitress took all of our orders and even let us pay separately even though the place was getting packed! My girlfriends couldn't believe how good it was and will be back for sure.... keep it up!!
Sweeeet!!!!. I've been here twice. I'd go more often if I had the chance. The pinnacle of atmosphere! Very relaxed and comfortable. Nice laneway entry.
First bar tonite - love the ambience, big couch and spacious for a small bar. drink supply by the two feet and heartbeat tour. Punch with whiskey, rum and lemon. Hmmmm ;)
Wonderful whisky. A great selection of whiskies and tasty complementary antipasto every Tuesday and Wednesday (late afternoon) make this one a winner for mid-week drinks after work.
Howard's Rusty Nail: a knock-out. Helvetica has an impressive selection of drinks. Howard's Rusty Nail was a knock-out (it was recommended by the bartender); the salted fudge perched on top was perfection. This place has great ambience (I went on a Wednesday when it's a bit quieter). My only quibble would be that their food menu is quite limited. Other than that, a fantastic bar - the sort that Perth needs more of.
Take a girl here to blow her mind. This place is pretty meandogs. whiskey sours are the best in perth. chilled out staff and sweet loungey set up are good too
Fabulous drinks, people watching but occasionally fierce door 'lady' who might be more suited to stand outside a night club not a bar in an alleyway
Excellent choice of whisky and the staff are very knowledgeable about the whisky. Excellent place
Very good. Loved when helvetica opened as it's next to my office and started losing interest in andaluz next door due to arrogant service. i just really like this place for an after work drink. good demographic of patrons, very few, if any, v-neck t-shirts and other try hards to be seen. great drinks range as well. not a huge fan of the layout though. hard to get a seat most times and it seems like you're always standing in the middle of the traffic. all in all though, really good place for a drink and decent food
A über cool bar with a chilly upstairs. A strong showing for the cocktails with the blood and sand providing a fresh change. The wagyu beef pies are fantastic, the pepper notes in the pie are subtle and shouldn't be missed. Food 7/10 service 7.5/10 decor 8.5/10
Impossible to get in, but best quality (and priced) champagne cocktails around
Whiskey+whiskey. I am not a whiskey man by any stretch.. but this place and whiskeys were fantastic, no fantasticer. Will be saving up my pennies - hahaha - to go again.. The Lark LD193 is a corker and the Japanese whiskeys surprised..
We went to Helvetica with a few friends last Friday night. The staff behind the bar were very helpful when it came to picking out different whiskeys. Its a little loud and the camera man and his assistant were annoying and unnecessary but apart from that it was great. Its in a very cool location which makes it a little difficult to find if you have never been before.
Could have stayed the whole night!. Very good! good service, the line our the front was a bit annoying but once you got in it was relaxed and chilled, drinks were at a decent price (8 bucks for a cranberry and vodka) and the food is awesome! we got cheese and ham tosties which is so rare and weird to order, but they were very yum, had a really good night here, only downer was no real music playing, still the place was packed so it wasnt quiet anyway! 9/10 will deff go back!
Helvetica is a fantastic venue, great drinks and friendly staff even at the door, which is a bonus. The atmosphere is always good thr only thing letting it down is a girl behind the bar who seems much more concerned with pleasing the male customers than the girls. When finally served by her she usually projects an attitude and is somewhat rude and abrupt in her service. But overall great bar keep up the good work!
Like it!.... Always enjoyed going to Helvetica for a drink, don't really do their snakcs though; tried the pork pie once, just not my thing to eat cold pie's, but sure some like it. Wine list is tiny, but ok, however their scotch selection is great and it is what brings me back!!
Love it. Biggest whisk(e)y selection in perth... LOVE IT!
BEST. Great bar, service, drinks, staff. EVERYTHING. shame about the tacky laneway 'upgrade' total waste of money and frankly detracts from Helvetica. the whole 'laneway' idea was totally lost on this one...
Loving the small bars. After having just come back from Melbourne (depressed from not only spending almost all my money, but also at the prospect of being bored to death in perth), I thought I'd cheers myself up and head down to Helvetica for refreshments. Heindrick's gin (and cucumber) and tonic, tick, great service, tick, tasty bar food, tick, friendly staff (including the nicest door girl I've ever met!), tick, graffiti on the laneway walls, tick... happy to be back in Perth (surprised) big tick! And have you noticed the chandeliers in the laneway?
Perfect. Love Helvetica so much, amazing cocktails, wine list and the bar snacks are super yummy and well priced. Staff are rad, highly recommended!
Bar staff were really friendly and talkative and they knew their stuff. I asked about a couple of the Japanese whiskys and they were able to tell me about them in detail, comparing their taste to other whiskys I was more familiar with. It's all to often you go into a pub, ask if something tastes good and you get "Yer it's orrite aye". Thanks for the helpful info buddy! Drinks across the board were fairly reasonably priced, however, some of the more mature whiskys are quite pricey, but you get what you pay for.
The best was the Fish House Punch which cost $35 but you get this massive jar and cups to pass around. All we did was all dipped our straws into it and took mega sip REFRESSSSSHING! again I can’t remember what was in it beside peach slices again. Tr watched the bar tender making the drinks and she reported there were lots of alcohol in the punch GREAAAAT. Everything was just perfect there that I wish I can call this my regular drink spot :p
