I think we’ve found our new favourite Thai place :) Every dish we ordered (Massaman curry, Thai beef salad, Pad Thai, Satay chicken skewers and Coconut rice) were de-lish! Cooked well and flavoured. Thoroughly enjoyed and would absolutely recommend. Bonus points to riendly waitstaff.
Bit confusing to find as the restaurant has changed its name to Soi Shafto. Went here with a friend, we ordered a vegetarian green curry and the egg fried rice to share. They were very accomodating when we asked for the curry to be made vegetarian as it is not specified on the menu.
The waiter was very friendly and suggested ordering more food as the two meals wouldn’t be enough for both of us - they were more than enough. They curry was not too spicy and very tasty, the rice tasted authentic and was rather addicting. Total was $34 with us both leaving very full. No split billing
Amazing food - They accommodated 5 vego's so easily and the food was amazing, they also made some dishes super spicy on request and for the chilli lovers at the table it was a dream. Highly recommend!
Delicious Thai food at such a reasonable price! The food is so fresh - definitely one of my favourite restaurants in the city. And BYO too - what a bonus.
After another restaurant mixed up our booking and couldn't accommodate us, we wandered Shafto Lane early on a Friday night to find somewhere else to eat. Plenty Thai looked like they had room and moved some tables together to seat us.
The menu was extensive and we chose several dishes to share. Entrees of satay chicken, spring rolls and fish cakes. The satay sauce was out of this world, quite possibly the best I've ever had. Spring rolls were crisp and fresh. Fish cakes were my least favourite - very fishy - but I think that's a personal preference.
For mains we shared the beef massaman, pad thai, cashew chicken, sweet & sour pork and pineapple fried rice. When the plates arrived on the table, we all commented on how vibrant and colourful the dishes were! All piping hot and full of flavour. The pad thai was a stand out and as someone who NEVER likes sweet & sour, I could be converted by this one. It wasn't the usual sickly sweet and sticky sweet & sour I'm so used to from Chinese restaurants, it was fresh and delicious. The cashew chicken was surprisingly spicy which we weren't expecting but still delicious.
Services was fast and friendly, prices were reasonable (at approx $25 per person between 6, including non-alcoholic drinks) I'm a big fan of Thai and would return!
I had takeaway lunch from here, ordering the pad kee mao- basil chilli stirfry noodles with beef. I asked for not too hot but just a little too spicy for me, still delicious. This dish is meant to be extremely hot so be careful if you can't eat very very spicy!
Yum. Excellent Thai food. Simple dining definitely not flashy but clean. Interesting tasty menu, good value, fast efficient friendly service.
Authentic Thai taste. Good service. A little expensive. If it was a little bit cheaper, We'd probably visit more often. Will definitely be back.
Nice venue down the laneway. It's byo and they don't sell alcohol. I had the fish cakes and prawn pad Thai which was really good. I shared the chicken jungle curry with my friend, it was only ok as a bit watery
Authentic Thai dishes yes... And I don't think they used MSG, didn't feel thirsty at all afterwards. I picked 1 Special & 1 Basic dish with mixed Rice & Phad Thai Noodle. Garlic Fish was lovely with crispy battered. Loved the Eggplant Basil Pork, it's got strong flavour. Pad Thai was cooked well and tasty. My sister's Red Curry Chicken was great, very tasty and got plenty of Chicken. One thing that we didn't like was the very sticky (dirty) table. I hope they'll start putting more attention to it.
Fast And Delicious Eats!
+3.5
Ordered the pad thai and the noodle special for lunch today. The taste of both was decent but for value for money go the pad thai. Will be back to sample their other plenty choices.
Little Thai at Shafto Lane. Pad Thai and Pad See Ew very yummy, really had that Thai kick taste. Friendly service and fast. Recommended. So don't leave it to long to visit.
Pretty good traditional Thai food.
I had a carry beef. Reasonable price and quantity. It is the place I want to come for lunch, but not really for dinner.
Had dinner here on Monday night before Oprah,
Thai is my fav food and we eat a lot of it and try new Thai all the time and I have to say that Plenty Thai made we want to go back ASAP and try so much more!
We had spring rolls and satay chicken for entree and both were Delish, and we had pineapple fried rice, chicken and cashew, can't remember the noodle name but it was the one with basil In it and a dish we try at every Thai we go to is Penang Chicken....
Every dish was amazing!! The only complaint is the Penang was quite a small dish compared to the others.
All the staff were great even when they started to get a bit under the pump due to it getting busy due to the show!
Can't wait to return!
Having spent the day sightseeing, we had an urge for Thai. A quick search turned up this little gem tucked away in one of the CBD's laneways. Great range of Thai and it didn't disappoint. Always have to try the Pad Thai and it was delicious, the other pork dish we had (forgotten the name) was also beautiful. Staff were very friendly and the whole experience was enjoyable.
Good place to eat. A bit pricey, but I have yet to find better massaman beef curry with better cuts of beef, and their curries are delicious and smooth and thick enough, not watery crap like some other pretenders. Papaya salad was nice and refreshing.
Now that I’m able to eat semi-normally after my gastric sleeve surgery , my workmate Andrew and I have started venturing out at lunch time to explore the options nearby. One place we recently tried was Plenty Thai in Shafto Lane. It’s always busy – a good sign – and hadn’t stopped there before because it appears that they don’t do takeaway, but that isn’t the case if you ask. There’s plenty of seating if you’ve got time to eat in, just be prepared to share a table with some new friends. There’s a good selection of fresh food ready to go, plus other items you can order. The combo meals come with rice or phad thai noodles from $9.50, depending on how many choices you make. I chose the panang beef – one of my favourite Thai dishes – and red curry chicken with rice (two dish combo for $11.50). I was really impressed with the serving size and was surprised to receive two containers, one filled with rice and the other with both dishes, nicely separated down the middle. I enjoy the chilli turned right up, and absolutely loved the panang beef – you probably wouldn’t want to eat this if chilli isn’t your thing, especially not at lunch! Andrew ordered the “chef’s special” chicken fried noodles ($12.90), and the wait was well over five minutes which wouldn’t normally have been a problem, but it’s a busy place and there’s nowhere to wait for takeaway except in front of the counter where you’re in the way. We’ll definitely be going back to Plenty Thai, the food was delicious – the pre-prepared dishes were as good as you get in many “normal” Thai restaurants. Just be careful what you order if you don’t like it too spicy!
Plenty of Thai!. Excellent thai food! I found this place by chance in Shafto Lane one evening and ordered the Thai Green Curry takeaway. The staff are very friendly. One of the best green currys I have had in Perth and I have been back 2 more times to try the red curry and the massaman curry. The $3.00 Jasmine rice serving is enough for one person to go with the curry. I like that you can choose which type of meat in the curry - pork, beef or chicken.
The Massaman curry is a red curry with potato and cinnamon, its not as spicy as the Green curry.
Soooo Sloooow. We went to Plenty last night and the service was so increadablely slow. The place was packed and only had one waitress working. She was running like crazy and smiling the entire time but she really needed some help. After waiting about 45 minutes for our food I had to walk up and ask about our order. The manager apologised and about ten minutes later we got our food.
When we finally got our food, it was great.
I would recommend this restaurant but NOT on a Friday night or not if you are in a hurry.
Best pad thai in Perth! Ok price for lunch but for dinner it's pretty expensive $15 for a padthai but anyway it's worth the price. The service was excellent. Oh nooo now i'm craving for their food..
Fresh, hot, and tasty!! Best Thai I've had in a long time. Not greasy and used real chillies!
A great place to watch the world go by.... On a barmy spring Saturday night we watched the world go by from Plenty’s outside tables in Shafto Lane.
It was great way to spend an hour or so, particularly when the evening included a couple of delicious Thai meals. I’m a fan of Plenty’s seafood red curry and my partner loved the chicken dish. The service was great, the price was right, the serves were huge – you won’t leave hungry, guaranteed.
Plenty is a winner
Nice food, tasty, fresh seafood in the pad thai. not sure if they use msg...i hope not.
Nice little restaurant in Shafto Lane ,reasonably priced ,friendly service ,food was tasty , it worked about $20 per head.Close to Perth Arena so it's perfect for getting a quick bite before the show.
Flavoursome Tom Yum Soup (Prawns). Today with a runny nose, went to plenty thai to try their tom yum soup with prawns $11.50
extra vegies $ 2.00
rice $2.00
total $15.50 for soup & rice. check out the photo - quantity was slightly less.
I know it sounds pricey for a lunch in Perth CBD. I wouldn't deny that as I am one of those advocates who goes to find quality food for the cheapest buck!
The soup was flavoursome with aroma of the ginger, galangal and lemon grass bits... Nice and perfectly tangy.
Loved it. It helped soothe my inflammed nostrils.
Delicious food, friendly service and no over inflated perth prices! Will definitely be back!
Good and bad. Cool little joint on Shafto lane. My friends meals were amazingly delicious and well priced. But my healthy choice curry was bland and not worth the $20 I paid for it. Guess it just depends on what you order!
Great value. Generally under $10 from the servery, tasty Thai food with a good variety. Friendly staff, clean tables and cutlery. Only criticisms are food is usually only warm and I suspect that dried garlic granuales are used in the cooking which has that lingering aftertaste.
I think this place is so busy it just can't cope now. Standards seem to have dropped lately. I came for lunch last Friday. My friend had finished her lunch but mine had yet to be cooked. I decided to have it as a takeaway. The Seafood Jungle Curry cost me $15 & had only 1 prawn.
Came here for a bite to eat after a comedy gig, one of the few places still with an open kitchen at 9.30pm.
service super-friendly, food scrumptious, and they even accept (/encourage!) byo beer from the pub down the road. stand-out favourites were the Pad Thai and the fish cakes - so delicious... definitely keeping this in mind next time we're in the city for a gig
Fantastic Thai. I ordered a penang pork curry to take away last week and it was excellent! Lovely complexity of flavours and wonderful texture.
The order was cooked quickly. An excellent quick meal. I'll be back.
Absolutely yummy, great service and very friendly staff! No complaints!!! Everything's tastes great so far!
I liked it here but service wasn't good, food was good but not the best Thai I've had! Byo they are not licensed, staff seemed to snigger about customers and our dishes didn't come out at same time. To summarize, Cheap and okay
Look for a decent place for dinner. Wow I found it. Friendly staff and clean flavorsome food. Had my best Tom Yum in ages!!
Next time I'm in Perth I'll be back!!
Cheap and cheerful! Clear menu and food delivers! BYO too :) we had 5 for dinner and it worked our about 20 bucks a head. For Perth that's rad!
Little gem.... Yes the queue can be a little long and the place gets crowded... but the food tastes pretty good! One of the best som tum in Perth!
Quick and tasty. Maybe a touch spicier than what is served up to most Aussies.
Love love love this place. I have discovered my new favourite lunch spot. $5 for pad thai? Add a green curry for $2? Are you kidding me? $7 dollars for a plate FULL of food right in the heart of the CBD? This place was fantastic. There is nothing I can say wrong about this place other than the line I had to wait in to get to order. The place was packed. I'd heard about this place a couple times and am so happy I finally got to experience it. I highly recommend this little gem. Today's specials were fish, massaman curry and a lovely green curry. I would been happy with just the pad thai - I am still full. If you're after a cheap lunch I highly recommend Plenty.
Great time. This place is great. Lovely people running the place and super friendly. I'm always up for supporting Perth's smaller businesses. Just had my 30th birthday here. Was the best decision made for a group booking. Originally I booked for 10 but ended up booking for 28. I thought this would be a big hassle but they were very accommodating (for a small place) and of course everyone enjoyed their meals. Not one complaint. The fact that it was BYO (bottle shop is 2 min walk away) made it super easy for everyone. Only minor minus is the toilet is the public facility just outside but If you like genuine service and great value CBD dining then I highly recommend taking your friends.
Love this place so much ate here twice in three days. Lunch on a Saturday, then booked a table with friends on the Monday night. Great tasting food, warm & friendly service, reasonable prices. It's BYO, though we didn't do that ourselves. Can't wait to go back! Only thing missing is the Chang beer :-(
Best take-away Thai in CBD?. Great lunchtime option - take options can be a bit confusing - the 2 mains for $8.50 (incl rice) becomes $10 if you take the special dish. But very tasty and just about the right amount of spice for lunchtime with no accompanying Singha :-(
Eaten here about 5 times in the last 3 weeks...keep coming back.
Two downsides to note (1) the green (and red) curry often has TOO much oil - skim it off please BEFORE you serve it to me. (2) Portions could be a little bigger.
Have sat-in once as well....overall, highly recommended
Ordered a massaman curry which was very nice. Even got a couple of spring rolls thrown in for free, which were also very tasty!
$7.00 for 1 combo which you get a choice of either rice or pad Thai plus a another dish (ie green curry/vegetables stir fry/ etc) Pretty good value for a quick lunch. Serving is a bit small but taste good :))
Stumbled across this gem today for lunch. Fast service, great food & clean decor. Very busy. I had a combo of pad Thai, massaman curry & a mince basil dish. Very very nice, filled me right up. I'll be back for a quick lunchtime meal again.
Best Thai Restaurant Around!. I loved, the foods, the atmosphere and the service. I ordered Kra Prow, which is minced pork with Thai basil. It was amazing! It was also cheap, they offered meals in combos. Some of the foods are displayed so, it was really quick. The fish cake was so good, it tasted just like the ones I had in Thailand! The restaurant was beautiful, the service was amazing. I would definitely visit again soon!
Plenty Thai on Shafto Lane is fast becoming my favourite lunch destination for its delicious food, great location and best of all, value for money... not to mention, excellent customer service too!
In the Shafto Lane, right next to Burger Bistro, sits Plenty, a Thai restaurant that serves excellent food. On a Saturday afternoon a few weeks back, A and I journeyed into the CBD for a bit of lunch and some R&R (aka shopping). It was A’s suggestion that we head to Plenty, as she had recently tried it for a weekday lunch. Supposedly, weekday lunches are quite popular at Plenty, with a large line forming outside. A had said that it was an excellent, inexpensive lunch that has made her a fan of Plenty. Plenty provides you with plenty of options, with offerings of entrees, soups, salads, stirfrys, noodles and rice dishes. Regardless, A and I ordered a few of our favourites to share. For our lunch, we ordered a serving of the Thod Mun Pla (Thai Fish Cakes) ($6), Yum Pla Muek (Squid Spicy Salad) ($15.00) and the Chicken Pad Thai ($12.50). The Thai Fish Cakes arrived first. They were served with crushed roasted peanuts on sweet chili sauce. The Thai fish cakes had a huge amount of flavour a
On Shafto Lane, I've visited here a few times for lunch. Most recently, I enjoyed a delicious Masaman curry. Lots of beef, lovely creamy coconut flavour which goes really well with the steamed rice. Nice serving and well worth the money.
