Review Grand Bar & Bistro - Perth

Kevin K
We dined at the Grand Bar and Bistro, although not necessarily by choice. This is a dated bistro overlooking St George’s Terrace. Gone is the opulent steakhouse that once resided near here. That went bust. Instead, imagine rustic furniture, lights that do not work (the halogen on top of our table was off). The English gentleman at the bar was courteous and reminded me of being in a random London bar. Table service was limited by only one waitress covering the entire bistro. Oh the food. That’s where the rating comes from. Although the grazing platter and bar food looked fine (really it’s not hard to throw together), the main menu was the worst restaurant meal I’d had in years. Everything was thrown for a double cook to be deep fried. Are we hiding something? Pork belly. Not those scrumptious oven baked photos others have posted, but deep fried and dark. With some apple sauce out of a jar. Don’t ever offer the duck confit. A confit is meant to be slow cooked in its own rendered fat, soft and tenderly attended to at low temperature, juicy and meat melting off the bone. This was deep fried. Really! Mushroom risotto was mostly a cheese and chicken stock risotto, with chopped mushroom scarcely there somewhere. Rich, creamy and way too much cheese. The barramundi, although not the freshest fish was cooked fine. The coconut cream sauce and chilli don’t really go, and God knows what the side was. Mushy and inedible with odd flavours I cannot place. Instead of sending back dishes we refused to eat any more, left our dishes behind and walked out. At $180 for two, including drinks this was unforgettable. And for all the wrong reasons. We did not dine here as a first choice. And made up for the disappointing night by walking across the road to Brookfield Place. I suggest diners consider the same.

I recently had my 21st at the grand and fair to say everything was perfect. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they made sure my 21st was a night to remember. The food that was provided during the night was tasty and amazing. The mangers Santosh and her Husband were of great assistance during the preparations and on the night as well. I would highly recommend the grand as the perfect venue if ever needed to host an event.

Cosy, executive bar in the heart of Perth. The service is friendly and welcoming, and we were very grateful for being hosted although we were extremely late. Good for groups, has an outside area, and I would consider it a small-medium venue. The platter we ordered was okay, it was not balanced as it mostly contained quite savoury foods, it definitely could do with different tastes. The venue could be improved also as the railing was loose and many lights were shorting. Overall good experience, I would return to try something else off the menu and for a casual drink with friends

Made a booking for dinner for 10 people for the restaurant and when I arrived they said my booking wasn't in the restaurant as there was already a function there, which was annoying as I should've been informed about when I made the booking as it clearly stated that mine was in the restaurant. Instead my friends and I were seated on bar stools right near the entrance, not even on the upper levels where there are nicer tables. Really disappointed as I wanted to celebrated a special occasion with friends. The food was nice but we weren't given the updated menu that is on their website which was also disappointing.

Went there and kitchen closed at 7.45pm so went home hungry. But the staff were nice and friendly. Toilet needs a good clean! Sometimes glasses have spot marks but friends said the Steak sandwich and burger were nice so will be back next time.

Amazing ambience, food and drinks in this neat little gem on St George's Terrace. The staff were extremely friendly and very knowledgeable of their stock. They happily recommended the Barramundi paired with their Cape mentelle SBS

Tried this amazing burger from the grand, service was really fast and amazing the crew are so friendly, the burger are so juicy this is worth it to come to finish your busy weekend.highly recomend and dont forget to have your beer to compliment the burger.two thumbs up.

An Excellent establishment with excellent cold beer. Steaks, pork belly, and Grilled chicken Burger were all big hits. The service was subtle and efficient. I strongly recommend it...

Came for a work lunch. The food is really unsatisfactory. Had the Chicken Parmiagana for $21. I'm 90% certain it wasn't a fresh breast crumbed in house and instead originated from a packet. The salad was limp, watery and underdressed. Would not recommend.

It appears to be a while since this place was last reviewed. Is it because people are not coming back? <br/><br/>We dined at the Grand Bar and Bistro, although not necessarily by choice. Decent and speedy lunch at the Grand Bar Bistro. Not quite a 4/5 but a very good 3.5/5. The experience slightly exceeded my expectations of a bistro on St Georges Terrace.<br/><br/>I ordered the Wagyu Burger sweet potato chips and both were delicious. The burger was undersized for the price of $24 and the quality of the bun was somewhat questionable, but the patty itself was thick, juicy, and genuine. The pickles in the burger also added a nice balance to the overall flavour. The kumara chips were actually excellent. They were crispy, flavourful, and sweet. <br/><br/>Worth a visit if you don't mind the slightly higher prices. I would skip the actual restaurant, but the bar menu makes for a good Friday lunch.

This place looks very up-market from the outside, usually filled with people in suits, but a look at the menu displays a reasonable restaurant with something for every taste. I ordered the mushroom risotto last time I went and it was delicious!<br/><br/>Friendly staff, a decent range of menu items each well-made and reasonably priced, and conveniently located near multiple bus stops and in the heart of the city, this bar and bistro is a great place to go for lunch and dinner. The portion sizes are generous, the seating is very comfortable, and is a great place to visit if you want to dress up or attend after work.

We are amongst the 6 people frequenting the place at 9pm . Still no food after 30 minutes. Not good for cBd restaurant on a Saturday night.Come on guys you really have to lift your game.

Came here for a lunchtime catch up with a relative from France. We had the $25 lunch-time special which was Barramundi and a glass of wine (i think it was a semillon).<br/>Serving size was good and the wine matched nicely with the fish. The wait time was a little long being around 30 minutes. Overall a good experience.

We went for dinner on Friday after work and drinks. We had a difficult table with several people with food allergies and highly restrictive diets. <br/><br/>Server Christie and Chef Laurent worked extensively with us to accomodate our dietary requests. Nothing was too much. <br/><br/>We could not recommend the Grand’s service and food more.
@Foodieguide_lily
I came here to try an Entertainment book voucher and service was friendly although the organisation of the three various venues in the same spot was quite frustrating. There are $25 lunch deals with a drink upstairs in the bistro, lunch deals Mon-Wed in the other two downstairs areas but only the bar takes the Entertainment book. I'm glad I asked up front rather than be messed around by yet another book venue. So only one poor guy was running around doing absolutely everything including bar and food service, so I was impressed that he was calm, friendly amd efficient. He helped us order and choose, and we were happy that we could choose between sweet potato or normal chips for the side. The meals came after 15 mins and they were nice. My parmy for the $19 Wed deal was well sized and tasty - the parmy was a bit soggy but otherwise all good, hot and fresh. A good spot in a good location!

Only pro is its by the beach with great views<br/>Crap service ordered a grilled fish burger for 18 bucks only to get battered fried fish burger after 35 mins much to our delight was returned back to get crap grilled burger after 25mins terrible food will never come back to this place

Had a decent enough lunch here. Chicken Parma with chips and bacon and a chickpea salad. Everything was good, drinks were cheap. Only thing I didn't rate was having to order at the bar like a country pub.

Nice location and we were seated and served quickly. 2 of us ordered the porterhouse steak and added garlic prawns on top. The steak itself was great but one dish was missing the prawns which were brought out on the side and the other had 3 prawns which were all severely undercooked. The undercooked prawns were sent back however not replaced and there was not much of an apology offered. Disappointing.

The food here was a major disappointment. The cut of meat was as tough as an old boot and was so blue it was still mooing. Literally raw. Plus the sauce we ordered was muddled so they just mixed the watery jus and mushroom together. I normally would whinge but this was such poor quality I need to warn people.

The restaurant itself was pleasant and the staff we attentive initially. We arrived at 6.30pm and and put our order in straight away as we had a show to go to.  We were on our second round of drinks when the bread arrived but we were getting worried after an hour and our main hadn't arrived.  We were finally able to get the attention of the waite staff and the meal arrived soon after.   We'd both ordered the fillet steak and both meals were barely warm and both steaks were well done even though we'd ordered medium.  We didn't complain to the waite staff as we had to rush our meal and head off to our show but we won't be coming back.

FOOD & COCKTAILS WERE GREAT, SERVICE NEEDS IMPROVEMENT-- went on a quiet Monday around noon, my best friend and I hadn't seen each other for a couple of months and decided to find a classier looking place to have cocktails and a bit of a nibble, we walked into a beautifully presented space with a couple of business men in suits chatting away at their table and two men sitting down each with a laptop... with no staff in sight or anyone behind the bar we looked around confused for a good 2 mins to see if anyone would serve us, still, no sign of help, so we decided to walk up to the sectioned out area where there were booths overlooking the bar and found ourselves a seat. after taking a good 10mins to decide what we wanted to order with the one menu left at the booth.. we still weren't sure who was going to take our order or if we had to order at the bar.. still there was no staff in sight. we sat there whispering to each other thinking maybe we should leave.. but we've already sat down for too long and it'll be kind of weird if we got up and left so we just sat there for a little longer tinkering on our phones until one of the men on his laptop got up and behind the bar (assuming to make himself a drink); that was when we decided to walk down and ask him do we order here? we proceeded to order an entree to share (scallops and pork belly dish), a main dish each (grilled fish for the best friend and porter house steak for myself) and 2 cocktails which added up to $110 (very reasonable price). the food was delicious and cocktails perfect to my liking but the guy who served us was very casual and we were definitely not impressed with the way he dumped our dishes and cutlery on the table.. not sure if we will be back.

Went to Grand for dinner on a Friday night. The atmosphere was fun with an 'after-work' crowd. For dinner we ordered the entree ravioli and for mains the prawn tortellini and roast chicken dishes. The pastas were yum but the chicken was a little dry. The brownies for dessert were scrumptious! A little disappointed with the service, staff were friendly but inattentive.

Strolled in early for lunch and although we were the only people there at 11:30 we could order from the bar menu. The staff member's attitude was pretty casual but he was helpful. <br/>We had steak with a beer / salt & pepper squid (with additional side salad) and a vino. <br/>I enjoyed everything although the squid was way to salty. <br/>It's in the centre of the CBD with people going in every direction outside, yet it was a calm oasis. Will be back for more.

Staff were professional and very accommodating, I must commend the Manager for going all out for us to ensure we were happy. Great ambiance, would recommend this venue for hosting events. Menu catered to all and food was was fantastic! could not fault this place!! will be returning very soon..Thank you Grand Bar and Bistro

Have been here several times for work lunches. Perfect lunch spot for catchup or a get together. Not overly loud inside. Would recommend booking a table for bigger groups. Can't go past the buckets of wings!

The waitress in the restaurant today is a huge asset to this place, look after her! Pleasant, attentive, caring - faultless. I'd requested a high chair and it seems this wasn't passed on but no biggy at all. <br/><br/>I love the decor and ambience at Grand, even the toilets are beautiful, but the background house music is dreadful. I feel it brings the feel of the place down a lot.<br/><br/>Moving on to the food. We shared two entrees, a main and a dessert. We were very excited to find scallops and chorizo on the menu so chose that without hesitation. I enjoyed the dish however my friend found the scallops to be undercooked. The other entree was QLD crab etc with black sesame tuile. The flavours were delicious, and the unexpected hint of spice brought a smile to my face (I love spice). <br/><br/>The beef medallions were perfectly cooked however, not being a fan of potato, I found the accompanying potatoes super boring. I also felt it should have come with more sauce, especially as the sauce was super tasty. <br/><br/>All dishes were beautifully presented. <br/><br/>At this stage we were very impressed with the entire experience. Then the chocolate moelleux came out. It was extremely disappointing. It had collapsed into nothingness, the centre of it was about 3mm high, there was no centre sauce to speak of. And it was accompanied by the tiniest scoop of ice cream. We sat looking at it sadly for a while and our superstar of a waitress noticed and came over asking if everything was ok. With no hesitation at all she arranged to find out if the other moelleux were any better (they were not) and brought us out a sticky date pudding instead. It was a vast improvement but a fairly average dessert. It also came with a scoop of ice cream. I find vanilla ice cream such a boring accompaniment to a dessert. <br/><br/>Although it was a disappointing end to a lovely lunch, I couldn't possibly rate Grand less than 4. The prices are high and the portions are small however food is for the most part tasty and service is faultless. I will be back. <br/><br/>Grand is both in the Entertainment Book and on Dimmi for rewards points.

Aesthetics are great and menu sounds amazing but prepare to be disappointed! We made an online reservation in advance which 'got lost in the system' so was unapologetically offered to be seated downstairs at the bar. When we decided to go elsewhere a table magically appeared in the restaurant... We then sat and waited 30mins without any service, not even as much as water put on the table! After 45mins of wasted time and no service we left. Definitely won't be returning anytime soon

This quiet, unpretentious restaurant sits above a busy bar in the heart of Perth’s CBD. When I’d been to the bar previously for post-work drinks, I hadn’t even realised the restaurant upstairs existed. It’s a small, refined space serving good food at reasonable prices, and it’s a bit of a respite from the bustling St Georges Tce.
The Urban Bento
Went for a nice midweek dinner with my parents and the service was nice. Went to the restaurant part upstairs and had been enticed from the 50% dimmi deal. We ordered mains and sides to share. Unfortunately we looked longingly at the table next to ours who had their entrée and mains before ours arrived! 45-50 mins wait was a little more than we'd like since the place wasn't full (was explained when I paid the bill that two other functions were going on downstairs). Food arrived and was tasty. My pork belly wasn't crunchy and swordfish a little dry. Chicken dish was the best for us! Might be back for the Parma and chips deal downstairs (might get faster service too)!
For The Love Of Food
I loved this place. We chose this restaurant because it was part of the Dimmi 50% off food promotion. We ordered three courses each and 2 glasses of wine and the bill only came to $80. We were stoked to get a discount, but the prices here are actually extremely reasonable for the dishes we ordered! Would happily go back again and pay full price. The service was also amazing and a really lovely atmosphere, dim lighting, tables not too close together. We ordered scallops and chorizo and pork belly for entree, pork belly and beef medallions for mains and sticky date putting and chocolate molleux for dessert. Loved every bite, could not fault this place.

Visited with the Dimmi 50% off special and was genuinely surprised at how fantastic this place is in terms of food and service. I would definitely return as a full price paying customer. The pork belly I ordered was an incredibly large portion for a very reasonable price. I loved the apple purée that accompanied it but wish there was more. My friend enjoyed the mushroom risotto despite not liking risotto. She polished the plate off. <br/><br/>Apple and blue cheese salad with walnuts was perfectly balanced and hand-cut chips were light and crispy. We didn't have room for dessert so will return to try the chocolate moleulleux (did I spell it right?) which the waitress said was like a fondant. We paid under $45 in total which is cheap as chips, I'd be more than happy to return and pay double.

Grand in name and grand in looks, the flashy bar and sleek classy interior downstairs in the bar and upstairs in the restaurant area, does not carry the grand price you might expect. Instead there are a range of dishes that are reasonably priced and each of the dishes we had were quite generous in serving and excellent value for money. Along with a relaxing ambience and excellent friendly service to boot, a visit here for any occasion is recommended. To start I ordered the pork belly which was very tender and tasty with a lovely balsamic vinegar glaze. Plump juicy scallops were also enjoyed and pair effectively with the pork belly. I also had a taste of the Panko crumbed tiger prawns and crab croquettes which were delicious. I also sampledthe mains, first trying some delicious cajun coated swordfish with a delicious salad. I particularly liked the strips of buffalo chorizo but felt the cajun intensity could be ramped up a few notches. The sirloin steak was tender and juicy and enjoyed with a not too peppery, pepper sauce. For my mains, I rather enjoyed the rich melt in your mouth beef cheek surrounded by soft ravioli in a Parmesan sauce that lent it’s flavour but was not too cheesy. For dessert I liked the subtle flavour of the light but dense coffee mousse which was offset by the refreshing strawberry and chocolate cones. I also had a taste of the moist but dense dark chocolate fondant, counteracted with the light creme anglais and tasty mars ice cream. Really full but satisfied.

We dropped in for a drink a couple of days ago; sat on the mezzanine level looking out over the Terrace and sipped on a couple of glasses of the Swan Valley's Mandoon Estate rosé. The wine is crisp with a little mid palate sweetness...good with or without food. The glasses used at the Grand are outstanding..beautifully shaped and are indicative of the effort put into the food wine and service here. We have dined here previously and were very impressed by the quality and presentation of the food. You can read more about that visit on my blog. The Grand is well worth a visit...for a drink or a top class meal.

Drinks downstairs & dinner upstairs after a busy day in the office. So typical of many bars these days is how they lack character .. although a good selection of beers. When we finally ventured upstairs the setting was warm & intimate however we had 3 different waitstaff asking the same questions & the orders got mixed up. Food was tasty, presented nicely & just enough to satisfy hunger .. would I go back .. maybe??<br/>

I was recently invited for a meal the Grand Bar & Bistro in the heart of the Perth CBD, and went with my foodie-friend Linda for a Friday-night dinner before the Robbie Williams concert at Perth Arena a few weeks ago. The Grand is centrally located and very easy to find, on St George's Terrace at the entrance to Central Park.

Set over two levels the Grand is an impressive looking place  - we were in for lunch in the restaurant upstairs on a fairly quiet day. The menu is quite extensive and reasonably priced when considering how generous the meals were in size.  All were enjoyable enough none were particularly outstanding - standard cafe fare.   Service was prompt and friendly.
Queen Of Bad Timing
This restaurant has been revamped recently, with the bar downstairs quite busy on that Wednesday night and the restaurant upstairs a little quieter. I can imagine they'd be pumping during the day with all of the people working on St George's Terrace only walking distance away. It looks like they've spent a decent amount on the fit out - though the blue lights upstairs were not so friendly on my camera! The menu has something for everyone, with the pricing relatively accessible compared to some of the other terrace options.

We had a delicious dinner here on a Saturday night a few weeks ago.<br/>Booking is recommended as the restaurant upstairs was completely full by 7.30pm.<br/>Partner really enjoyed his lamb salad whilst I enjoyed my beef ravioli dish.<br/>The sorbet mousse dessert was also a mouthful of joy!

What a great little place on St Georges Tce. We walked in for dinner on a Friday night and had a table prepared for us in 10 minutes. While we waited we decided to escape the noise and crowds in the downstairs bar and had a drink in the Grand's 'outside' area in the Central Park atrium which is a cosy little bar with great atmosphere and warm heaters. Once we were seated for dinner we enjoyed entree and mains which were all of top quality. Expecting tiny portions we were quite disappointed when we couldn't fit in any dessert. All up it was wonderful service and excellent food and came in at just over $100 for the 2 or us with the Entertainment Card, which included 2 entrees, 2 mains and a bottle of wine.

Came here for lunch a couple of weeks ago. Weren't sure of the serving sizes but we ended up with way too much food... And nearly ate it all! The starter plates are massive and great to share. Top quality food. The waitress was a little difficult to read - not the most lively but I think she meant well...<br/><br/><br/>EDIT TO ADD: we went upstairs which is table service

The grand has had a lot of money put in to it and it's actually great. The beers on tap and great selection of wine and spirits always keeps me coming back especially for the imported Heineken :)

Have eaten at the Grand a few times now and on all occasions have been very pleased with the meals. We've had the ploughmans board and the NYC pizza and they've been great selections for a quick bite to eat. Great location and generally a good feel to the place and atmosphere. Will definitely keep returning.

Nice venue but average food. Service was prompt, but food was average. Pork belly was dry and the fondant potatoes that were advertised with the Angus fillet were more like jacket potatoes.<br/>For the price -it is not on par with other restaurants in town.<br/>However, it is a comfortable venue and it is one where you can have a conversation without shouting.

Fab night!. I made a large booking for my bday dinner and have to say the grand was great! Beautiful restaurant, food and staff. Considering there were over 20 of us....the food all came out together and was yum! Personalised menus were a lovely little touch too. Ray the manager was there on the night and made sure it was all smooth! Thanks Grand. Maggie

Stopped in for a cocktail with some girlfriends. Lively atmosphere, good tunes, and best of all well priced cocktails - the Burberry is amazing!!

The Grand, in the Central Park complex, has recently introduced their new seasonal menu and we recently went along to try it out. Starters included Coffin Bay oysters; beef fillet carpaccio with parmesan; blue swimmer crab croquettes with lime mayo; and prosciutto wrapped scallops. While I chose grilled haloumi, Lady FWO went for panko tiger prawns.<br/><br/>As for the mains, there are a number of dishes that tempted – Cone Bay grilled barramundi; Portobello mushroom risotto; beef cheek ravioli; grilled vegetable terrine; and veal colletta. In the end Lady FWO decided on slow cooked lamb shoulder, while it was Cajun swordfish for me.

Sex And The City Chic Bar. Having tried and tested the best bars in the UK I recently moved to Perth to see what this city has to offer.<br/><br/>3 weeks in and I stumbled across The Grand- a sexy, chic bar, in the middle of the CBD. The decoration is stylish and current, creating a great atmosphere which is enhanced by a friendly bar team who can not do enough for you. The drinks prices do not match the grandeur of the bar, as they are much cheaper than other venues close by<br/><br/>On my first night at the venue I had a sirloin steak with chips for $19, leaving me enough change to get a few cocktails in.<br/><br/>Give it a try.

Honestly one of the most underwhelming dining experiences of late. Waits for food were beyond unreasonable considering the patronage and volume of orders. So many other dining experiences considering the price point....

I have been here about 5 times this year for work lunches as our office is just across the road. the food is lovely, the lamb salad is always amazing and the servicing and quality is great value. one thing that has never changed is how unfriendly and sullen the staff are .. it's been that way every time and every one I have been with has always commented each time. it's a bit of a shame as the food is great and so is the venue.

Average. Meh!

Great Pizza!. Thursday $12 Pizzas are well worth the money and taste great! <br/><br/>Will definitely be returning!!!

Best steak ever. I've been to the Grand on their Tuesday Steak Special and could not have been more satisfied!!! $19 for an amazing cooked steak served with equally tasty chips and salad is something that you don't find easily in Perth!! Highly recommended!!! :)
Taniawise82
Worst Customer Service in Perth. Ordered food and the staffs just unfriendly and obviously not genuine in the service that they give. Won't and never be coming back.
Hollick12
Very disappointing. Both service and food below standard!!!! In our cbd horrified to think visitors to our city may end up in this poor excuse for a restaurant. Please Perth restaurant owners ensure your staff are well trained and qualified. We have a beautiful city and want to encourage tourism.
Melissa
Disappointing. I really want to like the Grand, great location, great looking menu and wine list. But every time I visit I'm left thinking why did I go?<br/><br/>Food must be ordered at the bar, but there never seems to be enough staff to keep up with demand, especially during a busy Friday lunchtime. I waited a good 15 minutes to be served and there seems to be constant issues with their till/food ordering system.<br/><br/>The food did take a while to come out, but I suppose that is ok given it was Friday lunch. However I was again less than impressed with the quality. Ordered the pulled pork roll with BBQ sauce & cheese with sweet potato wedges. The wedges were awesome. The roll barely tasted like pork, looked more like something from Red Rooster. It was dry and tasteless, the BBQ sauce was barely there which made it even drier.<br/><br/>I will come back to the Grand for a drink but won't be eating there again.

Soggy, cold, ugly chicken salad - where's the chicken?????

Truly excellent. Dinner for 6 here last night was an enormous pleasure. The quality of the food, the wine list, and the service of the staff was absolutely marvellous. This is a real gem. Every dish was high quality, and very decent sized servings, that didn't leave anyone feeling unsatisfied. Marvellous sauces! The wine list, (which is so long it has its own table of contents!), is extensive, and stretches the full range from budget to high end, including a wide variety of Australian and International wines. You could spend a lot on wine here, or very little, and the choice is yours. <br/><br/>Cannot recommend this highly enough!

Lovely restaurant. Went on a Tuesday night so not too busy, still short staffed though, lovely view. Quote posh so I did feel underdressed in thongs. Good was modern, good, hearty food. However don't go if you think $26 is to expensive for grilled mushroom. Extremley pricey, that's Perth for u though

Just magic. This place is amazing. Post Xmas lunch in early january. generous portions, very fairly priced. the staff were very freindly and the overall experience was excellent. Ill be coming back with my work mates for sure.

Cheap steak that is fit for a dog! Plus wine that they state is included in a special and then added to the bill! Plenty of better places to spend your money!

Nice venue, good ambience and good for afterwork drinks...in fact we come here every fridays now. Food is amazing. You can choose to have casual lunch/dinner downstairs and formal and intimate upstairs. The scampi pasta is amazing.

Great food, quiet venue, with modern classy decor.. They have a $19 special Mon-Thu. I visited in the Monday and their $19 bourbon braised ribs with coleslaw and steak fries was good value.

Good impression. Came here with some friends for some after-work drinks and was impressed with the layout and friendly bar staff. We wandered upstairs for some dinner and were pleasantly surprised that the noise from downstairs did not filter up. <br/>Waiting staff were attentive and the food was great. Definitely coming back.

Booked in for dinner date with my husband after spotting what I thought was Grand from another restaurant behind it weeks before. It turned out to be a different restaurant we had spotted, but what a happy accident! It was just us in the restaurant for most of our meal (as it was fairly early) and, unlike a certain 'fancy restaurant' in Hillarys that also has a downstairs bar, we weren't struggling to have a conversation over the music and drunk people downstairs ha! So the ambience was perfect. Food was also perfect. One of the best meals we have had since moving to Perth. We shared the whiting croquettes and field mushrooms with crab and gruyere for starters (the mushrooms were the clear winner, but croquettes were still nice), I had the Margaret River venison with figs and parmesan wafer and my husband had the scampi and prawn pasta for main (unusual choice for him when we're eating out because he makes amazing pasta at home). Both mains were polished off except for a portion of my venison because it was a surprisingly large meal and I wanted to leave room for the lemon and wildberry tart I had for dessert. Again the tart was great and I loved the sorbet that came with it (I think it was melon), yum yum! Overall, the food and drink (taste, presentation and size) atmosphere, service and price (about $150 for three courses, few alcoholic drinks and coffees) was all spot on and I definitely recommend it!

Yes!. I love this place! Great food, great service, OUTSTANDING cocktails. Grand has become a regular place to meet up with friends. The fit out is modern and stylish, and the layout is ideal with lots of different areas to sit or stand. I've eaten here a few times, both lunch and dinner. Each time I've been very impressed with portion size and price. Even when it's really busy, the bar staff are friendly and efficient...<br/>An ideal spot in the city with good ambience, and most importantly: Asahi on tap!

L jackson. Great Place, friendly service... Over from the UK visiting relatives and so glad we chose Grand Central Park. Really busy, great atmosphere and imagine my surprise running into a fellow Scouser (someone from Liverpool). We loved the food which was really good value considering the great location but above all the entertaining service. If I'm ever back in Oz I'll make sure I plan a visit!

Highly recommended!!! Took a new client, for an initial meeting and we were both very impressed by the venue and the staff. Best espresso martini in Perth!

A young bar with a lot to learn.... I will go as far as to say that this was the WORST service I have ever experienced at a venue of this kind in Perth. <br/><br/>My fellow diners and I were excited to try the Grand Central Park for an extended business lunch as it offered a great menu with surprisingly great prices and a rather extensive beverage list. The location is convenient and the venue is attractive however, we were extremely unimpressed.<br/><br/>Most (not all) of the bar staff appeared to be extremely unprofessional, ignorant and rude to patrons. At one stage I ordered a bottle of champagne which I had to chase up 20 minutes later, I was informed that they had run out and had to source a bottle from elsewhere. Unbeknown to him, I watched the bartender grab the same bottle that had been sitting on the counter behind the bar un-iced for the last 10 minutes. Dirty wine and pint glasses covered the table for the entire duration we were seated, not once did the barstaff come by to clear our table apart from our finished plates after lunch. <br/><br/>I was most surprised at the service (or lack of!) that we received given that there were plenty of barstaff on the floor at the time and we did skip 'the lunch rush'.<br/><br/>Call me old fashioned but I don't think having a swanky new bar, centrally located with good menu should give you the right to compromise on the service. This might be a venue for a drink and a snack after work but my fellow diners and I will definitely not be recommending this venue to anyone or a business lunch or function.<br/><br/>Based on my experience, I am sorry to say that the Grand Central Park appears to be a young bar with A LOT to learn...

Winner. Win a trip to New York simply for being at the venue? YES PLEASE. Will be back next Friday to enter and repeat the great night we had last week

Great. Absolutely love the lamb salad from Grand!!

Fantastic. We went on a Friday night after work and had dinner in the restaurant. It was absolutely packed in the bar but not so busy in the restaurant. I had the lamb salad, friends had the salmon, risotto and banana chicken. Everything was great. I expected small portions but everything was pretty reasonably sized. I had the banoffee pie for dessert which was good but a little rich. I expected it to be expensive, and while it wasn't cheap we got out of there for about sixty bucks each and that included drinks so not too extravagant. Definitely recommended if you're looking for somewhere central to eat in the CBD.

One thing for sure, one skinny waitress has an awfully grumpy look, no hint of friendliness, what a turn off! Saturday, 29th June. Another waitress is fine.

Great food, gorgeous restaurant, we'll definitely be back!. Reservation made for 7pm, we entered through the downstairs bar, but were a bit confused as to where the restaurant was located, so we took a punt and followed the staircase to where the toilets were located.<br/>Restaurant is lovely, fairly small, but just lovely. Modern decor, very extensive wine list (I was most impressed!). Dinner menu was also impressive, plenty to choose from.<br/>Service was OK, very slow to begin with, but I think that was because there only appeared to be two floor staff. That soon improved when a couple of other staff were on deck, friendly, attentive and amazing service.<br/>Shared entrees were the Albany whitebait, earthy spices, preserved lemon and saffron aioli, whitebait was deep fried (which i wasn't expecting), but delicious nonetheless. Field mushroom,WA blue swimmer crab, chives, gruyere, also delicious, but appeared to be missing the WA blue swimmer crab :(.<br/>Main courses were Patagonian toothfish, sweet miso marinade, asian greens, coconut prawns (rated very highly by my husband), Tasmanian salmon<br/>fillet, fennel and leek mash, lemon dill beurre blanc, sweet potato shavings - perfect, and I have to say the best food I have had in a very long time!<br/><br/>No deserts for us as we were full, overall I was really impressed, the only things that niggled at me were the paper napkins, having to pull my chair out over the carpet (not an easy task), lack of signage to direct us to the restaurant, and the slow service at the beginning of the night.<br/><br/>Would I recommend Grand Central Park to others? Absolutely! Great experience!<br/>,

Second time at the Grand, we just can't get over the great fit-out and the relaxed atmosphere. <br/>On top of that the food is great too..delicious pork belly and the scampi main excellent. <br/>Perths best kept secret!

Bad bad bad. This is the third time I've been to this restaurant and there won't be a fourth. The waitresses don't know anything about the dishes on the menu and the food quality is poor to average. Very inconsistent in quality and far too spicy and salty with all their dishes. My recommendation to all of my fans and anybody else reading this site is stay away from this restaurant. It is bad bad bad! Delta xx

Very Disappointed. Went to the Grand Central Park for the first time with friends on Friday 03 May 2013. Was impressed with the upstairs restaurant and found the staff friendly if not very knowledgeable - when asked what a particular beer was like the reply was "beery"! <br/><br/>Wine and menu was extensive, well thought out and good value. Unfortunately the food did not match up, we ordered the tasting plate that was not as described on the menu, with items missing and replaced by other items without us being advised. For our mains we ordered a selection across the menu, Steak, Pork Ribs, Scampi and Veal and all of the meals where over cook, in particular the prawns and the half lobster. The Ribs looked great but where absolutely tasteless, the pasta with the Scampi was a lovely texture and beautifully cooked but the pasta with the veal was starchy, floury and nearly inedible.<br/><br/>We advised the staff that of the items that were over cooked and they offered free tea or coffee.

Off to a good start. I'm really happy to see the city centre transform into a more sophisticated and interesting place. Finally Perth has cottoned-on that there is more to the CBD than sterile office buildings, Aroma/Dome Cafe's and goth teens gathering in Central Park. <br/><br/>This newest addition to Central Park is another example of Perth growing up. Grand Central Park is comfortable, relaxed and polished. They have an impressive dinner menu with lots of interesting options. <br/><br/>I ordered the lobster with veal on a bed of pasta. The lobster was melt-in-your mouth tasty, with a butter-like sauce. The veal was tender and the pasta, delicate and light. A very satisfying combination.<br/><br/>Service is a little bit hit and miss, but it's early days so there is still some time for staff to improve on a few things, which I'm sure will iron themselves out over the next few months.<br/><br/>All in all, I'm very impressed with the food and it is definitely a good place for after-work drinks, or a nice work lunch.

Nice venue good service. The food will not knock your socks off, but its well priced, just be careful ordering as the servings are to big

WHAT A PLACE!!. Perth finally you are getting classy without the touch of arrogance that most the new places have with them!<br/><br/>We came in on a saturday 2 weeks ago around 8pm , the place looks stunning well done in the design, to our surprise it was a bit quite we thought it would be a little busier considering the prices in this place. very affordable, my vodka drinking days are now passed but, Grey Goose as house vodka and then for $7.50, thats unheard of in Perth and we go out very frequently!<br/>Impressive wine list, and a nice selection of scotches too. <br/><br/>The place has a great feel to it and staff were very welcoming, we are looking forward to having dinner there very soon!

Awful Beer - avoid. I tried this place out with a couple of mates last week. Looks ok inside but unfortunately the beer is not drinkable. We ordered 3 heinekens and I would have to say they were the worst beers I have ever tasted. Undrinkable. One of my mates works in the industry and says its because they get cheap imported kegs 'off the back of a truck' rather than from local brewers. Either that or they don't know how to clean the beer lines. Will not be back, too many good places in the city now to bother with this rubbish.

Spend your money somewhere else - this place is rubbish!. We had a booking for 8.30pm on valentines day. We arrived at 8.30 to a place that was only about 2 thirds full. We were offered a table right next to another couple despite there being many free tables. My boyfriend asked if we could have another table and the waitress pointed to a table next to the waitress station - we must not have looked impressed because another waitress came over and said if we went down to the bar for a drink they would get another table ready for us. Fine but when the place is near empty it was a little odd. <br/>After our drink we were given a nice table next to the window. <br/><br/>My entree was the duck salad - ok but bland. My main was salmon on risotto - the salmon was over cooked and the risotto very salty. <br/><br/>Although the food was nothing to rave about (especially for the prices) it was the vibe of the place and the service that will stop me from returning. The waitresses were just lifeless and didn't appear to want to be there.<br/><br/>To top of the evening, on paying I noticed that I had been charged $16 for a glass of house white. I thought this must have been a mistake and said to the waitress that I had only ordered 1 glass. She just pointed to where the bill said 1. I said "yes but I ordered house white - surely it's not $16". The waitress informed me that it was indeed $16! I made a comment about the price and she said "well it's a house wine so that's why it's cheaper". What??<br/><br/>Strange place. Bad food. Poor service. Perth's expensive but there are plenty of better places than this.
Steph_orso
What a great place. The food was amazing and well presented. Our waitress Gemma was fantastic! I recommend you try this place.
Lo.l
Digusting food, bad customer service and rude staff answering back to customers. They did not try in any possible ways to make things right. The Maitre D' accepted that one of her staff made a mistake yet we were charge for food and not even an apology from that particular staff.

Delightful, amazing experience. After going out for dinner at this place, I feel compelled to write a review. The food is magnificent and so is the decor and atmosphere. We had the proscuitto scallops for entree, which is to die for. Grilled scallops wrapped in pruscuitto on a skewer dipped in delicious hollandaise sauce. Mmmm.. :) Couldn't stop licking up the sauce after that. I was really impressed. I then had the tasmanian salmon with leek mash and sweet potato crisps. My that was heavenly. the salmon was cooked to perfection. To think you go to 'fancy' restaurants like these and you usually end up with a disappointingly small portion of food for the price you pay. Nah, not at this place, portion sizes are huge and prices are reasonable. I was so full I couldn't finish the last bit of my mash. My boyfriend had the lamb rump with cous cous and rosemary. 3 good sized lamb rump with a good mixture of flavours. <br/>This place also has an extensive selection of spirits and liquors! I have never seen such a big drinks menu before. For vodka, anything from grey goose to polish zubowka vodka. For bourbon, anything from kentucky bourbon to bourbon from guatamela and jamaica. They also have a hUge selection of wines, beers, champagne and sparkling wine. I just had to have the Hendricks gin & tonic. delicious and went really well with my meal.<br/>To finish it off, we both had an affogato. And my, the espresso coffee was made to perfection. perfect colour and crema. Just the right amount of vanilla ice-cream, it was the perfect finish to our dinner. <br/><br/>Service was good, I have nothing to complain, but can be too-attentive sometimes. I think once we were asked the same question twice by 2 waitresses within a span of 2-3 minutes. Waitresses did a good job though very professional but perhaps a tad pretentious but what can you expect from a place like this :) <br/>Food came out surprisingly quick for both entree and mains. Only about a 10 minute wait. No dramas, mistakes made on the service side. <br/>It was a great night out.

Nice Place and coming back. Went there for dinner last night. The food is good and delicious. Loved our waitress kristine. thanks for looking after us we enjoyed it

I was pleasantly surprised! I was expecting to walk into a over priced and pretentious place (very typical of perth) but instead walked into somewhere that is warm and very well priced. The service and food was also great which was the cherry on top!<br/>Will be back for sure!!

Perfect for a lunch break. Today a few colleagues and I were walking past looking for somewhere to have lunch and the Grand caught our attention. The decor is very inviting so we decided to try it. We just wanted something casual so ordered at the wait station near the bar downstairs. I had the chicken and proiscuitto sandwich with avocado, tomato, mango salsa and roquette served with a side salad which was both delicious and filling. My colleagues had the chicken parmigiana and the barramundi sandwich which they both expressed to be as good as my meal. The prices are very reasonable and the food was wonderful so we will definitely be back soon!

The grand has a great wow factor...the layout is amazing! My boyfriend and I came in for dinner. We had a reservation for 7pm. We were greeted by Kayla and seated. Our drink order was prompt and I loved the burnt lemon and vanilla margarita! My boyfriend chose a Shiraz with the help of the sommelier that went great with his eye fillet while I had the risotto with a chapoutier Grenache blanc which tasted similar to a crisp sav blanc which went perfectly with the meal. We shared the banoffee pie which tasted amazing. After the meal we wanted to stay and have a drink at the bar friendly waiter gemma assisted us to set up a tab. It was a great experience and I'd definately recommend it to anyone that wanted to have a decently priced meal with excellent service in the city!

Fab food, fab service, great wine list. I had the vegetarian risotto and it was divine. Need to advertise themselves more to be well known on the terrace.
Tony
Great wine. Great food. Friendly staff<br/>BUT<br/>Went to try the $19 parmigiana and Pinot noir special for $19 for Tuesday nights. Advertised on every table and every digital screen. Was told told this was $19 for the parmigiana OR the wine - so jn realty $38. When I questioned the fact that every sign indicated both were included for the special price of $19 the staff agreed that they thought the $19 should include both, yet still refused to offer this price. Firstly, this is deceptive conduct in pricing and downright poor service. Absolutely unacceptable to advertise one price and charge another - and offer no apology!

I liked it!. Dropped in after an expensive evening across the road (never again) and though it was very quiet (apparently not opened long) the staff were great, the music gave a great vibe to our group and the wine selection was terrific AND affordable. We had a sticky beak at the restuarant upstairs and plan to come back and give it a try too!

Definately dine again. Went for lunch, my partner had the steak and I had the field mushroon. Was very nice food and very reasonably priced. Decor and environment was great too. Also had a great selection of drinks. Will definately go back.

Great Place. Just had a drink and lunch at Grand Central. It was fantastic. The service was perfect, decor gorgeous and our meal was superb. Top quality ingredients at a very reasonable price. Will definitely be going back. Well done guys!

This elegantly appointed place in the Central Park complex has a ground floor across three levels, one of which melds seamlessly into an outdoor undercover area (housing the Deck cafe by day) to create what looks to be a lovely outdoor eating and drinking area from late afternoon...Grand is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu to suit each meal and also has a bar meals menu. The latter includes sourdough, ciabatta and dips; chicken wings with a blue cheese dip; pulled pork rolls; salmon salad; and a scotch fillet sandwich. The lunch menu is more extensive and includes scampi and prawn fettuccini; chicken parmigiana; beer battered fish of the day; sweet potato and parsnip wedges; and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. One outstanding feature of Grand is the comprehensive wine list...

A 300g sirloin that was perfectly cooked. This came out with rosemary potatoes which were some of the best spuds I have ever had. They were like mini baked potatoes and were dense and flavoursome. I salivate just thinking about them. This dish was so well priced - $34 for steak, thats pretty unheard of in a restaurant in Perth, in my experience. A pub

A raft of new bars have shot up along St George's Terrace, in the heart of Perth's CBD in recent years and one of the newest kids on the block is Grand Central Park. Located at the foot of the Central Park tower, the huge glass panels and exposed supporting pillars give the place a very modern, upmarket look to it, matched on the interior with a huge backlit bar and a host of posh finishings around the joint. The place looks a bit domineering at a first glance and some might even say pretentious. I didn't find the atmosphere to be pretentious at all, it actually had quite a relaxed vibe to it but at the same time still retaining it's posh-ness.

Classy décor, good ambience and atmosphere, and there was nothing especially noteworthy about the service generally (the wait staff were neither friendly nor unfriendly), except that the wine that I asked for (and I pointed to it in the menu) wasn't the wine I received but that wasn't really the waitress' fault. I had selected a wine from the verdelho range but instead I received an SSB wine from the same maker - to be fair they have an incredibly extensive drinks menu and really I should've picked it up, as she brought the bottle to me to check it. I only read the top of the label and said it was fine (I have bad vision with contact lenses and I wasn't about to snatch the bottle out of her hands and squint haha). The upside was that it was a dollar cheaper than the verdelho. The downside was that it was so awful I didn't drink it haha

A lunch meeting in town is always a delight and all the more so when it provides an opportunity to visit somewhere that I haven’t been before – like Grand Central Park. I remember hearing about this place when it first opened. Their point of difference to other new bars and restaurants that have opened recently along the Terrace is that they offer an impressive range of champagne and feature the first pressured champagne dispenser in the southern hemisphere I believe. That means they can offer top end fizz by the glass! Bollinger, Moet, Veuve, Dom Perignon and Krug – take your pick! Now on a weekday and for a work lunch I didn’t really have the opportunity to test out the delight of a quality glass of champagne and instead wandered straight upstairs to the restaurant section. The fit out is all very modern and in keeping with the entrance of Central Park, which you could see out the large expanse of glass windows. I was shown to one of the 4 seater tables near one of these windows and

Stepping in the venue has a very modern feel that engages the senses without being pretentious. Without trying to be too elitist, it seems like the bar is for a more polished patronage. Very smart venue, the menu has a nice selection of affordable items. I really enjoyed trying something completely different – patagonian toothfish. It’s very soft and flaky, not fishy, very well poached and buttery. However, given it’s richness it was superbly complemented by an interesting cold salad of orange segments (citrus), various tomato varieties (acidity), watermelon (freshness), pistachios (crunch & texture), Spanish onions and a vinagrette. The elements of the salad combined to cut through the richness and provide a real freshness in the hot summer weather. A very well thought out and balanced dish. I would have liked a little less salad and more of another element providing substance, like chips or something potato.
