just end my japan trip before visit perth, never expect to experience such a delicious japanese izakaya skewer and okonomiyaki in here, very authentic flavor and amazing customer service. Personally from boston yet never been in these creative and fun restaurant before, dining experience was amazing and serving staff are very friendly. highly recommend to order truffles wagyu beef, and their hot sake menu are very interesting too, personally think is amazing for cold season. i would definetely come back again for my next visit in perth. SEE YOU AGAIN HISS AND SMOKE!
Great quality food and the Great customer service, our server was really helpful and friendly and very reasonably priced under $50 we shared a main meal and had a kebab each and also had some deep fried pork it was all delicious and I had a schooner of beer and my daughter had 2 LLB.. Highly recommended!!!
It’s become our habit to go there every Fri to wind down after a busy week... the food has been consistently tasty and the staff are also super friendly... would definitely recommend this place to every Japanese food lovers :)
Absolutely amazing food - hands down best Japanese food Perth. Staff are so wonderful, they made it feel like you were eating at their homes. Definitely a must do.

Great food and drink, fantastic service and awesome atmosphere, felt like I was back in an izakaya back in Japan. Food very reasonably priced for the quality. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the city.
Was a queue as we came during peak times. Definitely worth it. Best okonomiyaki we’ve had in Perth and the skewers were awesome.
Very nice cosy atmosphere with an open plan kitchen reminiscent of an Izakaya.
10/10 would come again as the prices were definitely reasonable for the location unlike some of the other similar restaurants in Perth.
This place has seriously delicious food and great value. Will be telling all our friends and definitely going back real soon

The tori karaage is amazing! Very fresh and perfectly crispy and crunchy. The sauces on the side complement the meat perfectly, and it goes great with a side of rice or just eaten on its own. The okonomiyaki is also excellent, and of a good portion size. Great little place to eat at Yagan Square, even though it can be quite popular and busy.
Been twice now both times excellent. Price was fair and food was great. Love the smells coming from the kitchen. Great to sit at the bar.

The karage chicken was beautifully crisp but juicy with a delightful flavour, accompanied by delicious rice and beanshoot/ginger sides. Perfect for a Friday lunch. Yum.

Blew my expectations out of the water.
Huge servings, quickly prepared, heaps of toppings, textures and flavours. My meal was so big I had to take the leftovers (awesome reheated for dinner that nigh). Perfect pit stop for an inner city lunch break, dine in or takeaway.
Recent addition of curry and rice dishes makes this a great value eat in the city. Okonomiyaki and a Japanese curry dish shared is a solid feed, and we really enjoyed it!
After coming back from Japan not too long ago, this brought back all the memories of Hiroshima and Osaka. Flavours, colours, smells and sounds - ingredients to an amazing meal. Although seating might be difficult to get, it’s worth the wait. Do try the skewers as well as they’re all juicy and fresh.
Great for sharing or eating selfishly! Japanese pancakes are a must-try. We had both the Angus beef (thinly cut, so soft) and the citrus pork. Sides are delicious too, go the tofu. If you have time, the skewers are a staple here.

We got a bunch of yakitori skewers and a recommended sake, the pork belly and soft bone skewers were great, good quality meat that was juicy and had a lovely charred flavour from the grill. The prawns came with an amazing aromatic Yuzu and jalapeno condiment that really complimented the fresh prawns.
This place is small and intimate but in a good way, great to go with 2-4 friends to enjoy some small dishes and brews for a good night out.
We came here not expecting anything special, but were pleasantly surprised. Really engaging to sit in front of the chefs making our delicious food. Standouts were the okonomiyaki and the spicy edamame.
Hiss and smoke offers and excellent range of yakitori and okonomiyaki dishes which allow for variety whilst demonstrating a specialisation in these areas. We shared a okonomiyaki which featured Ramen and pork belly, a unique combination which was flavourful and juicy, some honey edamame and a few skewers. The drinks options are quality and complimentary. The restaurant is decorated nicely and it is pleasant to sit at the bar and watch the food be cooked. At $50 for two with a drink as well, very good price for the quality.

Tried a few of the Yakimono (Charcoal Grilled Skewers) - pork belly, scallop, chicken gizzard, beef rib finger and ox tongue. They taste ok, but had a few really tough and chewy ones (particularly the beef skewers), while others were really tender and delicious.
Okonomiyaki was a bit of a let-down. Had the Hiroshima and it was quite thick, soggy and mushy in the centre. We did enjoy the grill forest mushrooms and fried chicken though.
We were adventurous enough to try the thinly sliced pig's ear, deep fried with chill and salt. It definitely looked and tasted better than we expected. Probably not an all-time favourite kind of dish, but a good, interesting dish to try when you have your gutsy hat on.
Came here specially to try the okonomiyaki, and I’m glad I did! Both the original and k-squid were delicious. K-squid was really quite spicy but I liked the spicy. The pancakes were light and tasted healthy like a salad. Will try their other dishes next time
Throwback to days off and more delicious meals. This time @hissandsmoke in Yagan Square. We had the Sake Clams (not usually on the lunch menu, but they kind enough to make it for us because we didn’t know); K-squid okonomiyaki- with baby squid, kimchi and chilli mayo; and Fungi State (vegetarian) okonomiyaki- with enoki and champignon mushrooms. Just delicious! My favourite was the sake clams hands down! The broth was delicious and clams cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed the flavours of the K-squid okonomiyaki, they matched and complemented each other really well. Would come back to try the dinner menu next time!
Staffs are friendly. But place is really smal and has very limited seats, better book in advanced first. Very tasty karaage chicken, garlic&chilli edamame and okonomiyaki! I actually went back for those things. Price wise is not bad. Okonomiyaki is just around $13-15 and quite a big portion. Karaage chicken for 5 big pieces was just $7. Def coming back!
I adore Hiss and Smoke. The food is delicious (I was ecstatic at finding a place that does okonomiyaki after abandoning the search for years after the last place I could find it, in Subiaco, closed around 2010). But the service and the little oasis of Japanese culture here is what makes Hiss and Smoke what it is. Do yourself a favour and head to Yagan Square for a moment of delicious immersion.
Fresh food, great tasting beer and Agedashi Tofu to die for.
We have visited Hiss & Smoke a fair few times and walked away satisfied, and our wallets only a little lighter.

I’m quite happy that we have introduced new and interesting foods into Yagan square. I had never tried Okonomiyaki before and decided to give it a try. I do not have anything to compare it to but what I tried was very tasty. I tried the one with thin slices of pork at the top. The staff are very attentive and explained to me a couple of things about the dish. I will surely be going back.
First time trying Okonomiyaki and my god did it Not disappointment. I had the pork and let me tell you - I have not stopped thinking about this dish since. 😂 it was absolutely delightful to eat. Every mouth has you wanting more; bursting with flavour at every bite. I have not stopped raving about this place to friends who are planning to visit yagen Square. A must try!
Glad to see Okonomiyaki finally becoming popular and more available in Perth. First impressions of Hiss & Smoke were fairly positive. We went mid-afternoon on a weekend so they only had their limited menu available at the time. We shared a couple of Okonomiyakis (the squid one and the Hiroshima one) and both were above average. Being able to wash them down with a nice cold Sapporo was a nice bonus for a little place like this. Will go back again in the evening when the full menu is available because the selection of Yakitori (skewers) looked really good.
