Review Armada Restaurant - Perth

Firstly Susie is such an asset - Friendly, nothings too much trouble and bubbly. My steak was cooked perfectly and my meal experience was just what i wanted

Great for lunches. Solid beer and drink pricing for Perth. Staff are always helpful and attentive. I love it here for work drinks. Though live music choices can leave something to be desired. A good starting place for a night out. Menu is good if not very exciting.

Bought coupon from Groupon. Price, service, and the food are quit nice!

Fantastic food, well presented and delicious. Staff were attentive and helpful as well! Definately recommend if your staying nearby or just for a relaxing drink 👌.

Food actually isn't too bad. Customer service is poor. Very hit and miss. If you walk in and order a beer and then sit down it's like you are invisible. Waited 15mins then walked out. Plenty of places to eat in walking distance.

Worst breakfast ever. Microwaved potato gems scrambled eggs full of water sausages covered in charcoal.Pastries overcooked. Would not recommend this place to anyone

Disgusting food and service. Worst restaurant I've been to. Amazed a place like this can even survive in today's competitive restaurant market. Huge warning - STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

$14 for a pint of Carlton Draft in a fancy bar would be over the top let alone in a low budget Travelodge Hotel.

I was with a group of 30 and there was another group of 20 or more. They did not have the staff to cope with this. They had one solitary waiter (Henry - an absolute gem who was calm and polite and smiled throughout the ordeal no matter how much displeasure or mocking he faced) with occasional assistance from two bar waiters and the surly restaurant manager. We had a limited menu which should have made things easier for the kitchen staff, but it didn't. It took nearly an hour to get our entree, with those who received one choice having entirely finished theirs before those of us with the second choice received ours. The entree was immaculately presented, but most of would have preferred a little less attention to detail if it meant we could all eat together. The main meals came out even more slowly. Once again, those who ordered one option were almost finished theirs before the others arrived. Those who ordered steak reported a wide range of done-ness despite there having been no choice, and the steak knives did not arrive until mid way through the meal. An hysterical laugh went up from all of our tables when, with the meal almost finished, dishes of vegetables intended to accompany the meals arrived. There was then considerable delay before the deserts arrived. They were works of art, but not worth the wait. What was billed as cheesecake was in fact a sponge cake base with a small layer of cheescake on top. If they want to be seen as a restaurant at the level to which their presentation seems to aspire then they need far more staff, both in the kitchen and in the dining room.

First and last time I’ll ever go there. I got the seafood main and it was terrible. Pasta under cooked but the seafood was over cooked, squid was beyond rubber. Deconstructed mango cheesecake for dessert, average at best

We had breakfast, Service was slow and needed prompting to refill the baemarie, food was great, set buffet menu. atmosphere was a laid back family feeling

We've been here a few times, that say it all. Great food and service. We'll be back.

Good, friendly service. Menu was a little limited, but the quality was fine.

We decided to visit what seemingly was another hotel restaurant. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us our seats and immediately asked if we'd like to start off with a coffee. There was your usual selection of brekky options such as cereals, toast and fruits - and in addition to this a selection of Asian noodles and rice. I opted for the more unique dishes which were full of deep flavours and balanced spices. The coffee was rich and creamy - perfect for that morning start. Plates were regularly taken away from our table and it was a very clean atmosphere.

If you're in the area, I suggest taking a visit!

Rude management. Otherwise food and place was decent although they might have used a frozen crust for pizza :) Also, on Friday there was nice live music!

Bought a voucher from Groupon, the table service was great but the food was bad. We ordered garlic bread which came out cold and chewy. Next was our pizza which took forever to arrive - over an hour and when it arrived, it too was cold. I asked for them to take it back and bring us a hot pizza. The pizza itself was lacking flavour, I could have done better at home. Overall - would not recommend or go back there.

Very average food. Ordered an entree of salt and pepper calamari, one of my favorites, what i got was something that looked as if it had come from the supermarket freezer section and chucked into a deep frier, very disappointed. For the main I ordered surf and turf, at $41, even by Perth prices, I expected something more than 4 prawns sitting on what i would describe as a minute steak that
was fatty and full of gristle.
Another major gripe was having a designated smoking table direct adjacent to our table. Only found this out half way through our meals when the other patrons light up their cigarettes. Can not believe in this day and age people are still allowed to smoke at a restaurant even if the tables are outside.
The staff on the otherhand were excellent, clearly undermanned on this night but still attended to everyones needs with a smile. That is the only reason i gave the score as high as 1.5.
With the vast amount of restaurants in the Perth CBD this one is a miss

Brought my staff here for a Melbourne cup function again this year (as we have for the last few years). Food and service were both exceptional. Well worth a return visit. After coming back to the office, all the staff were commenting on how good the food was.

For mains I chose the crispy skin snapper on seafood paella. The snapper was a bit over cooked and the skin wasn't crispy. It wasn't seasoned also didn't have all that much taste. The flavours of the paella were okay and included two prawns and squid through it. The paella was quite soggy though and was more of a risotto than a paella.

Very tasty tender steak cooked to perfection. Sticky date pudding was to die for! Service was great as the waiter gave us a bigger table as our table was too small for the 3 of us without having to ask and checked on us quite a few times throughout our meal. However, they forgotten to provide a soft drink which was included in the kid's menu for my child until I asked for it. Will definitely be back to try other food on the menu!

Armada Restaurant located in the Travelodge in the city and has recently had a makeover so they invited us and our tribe along to check out the changes. We were soon seated at an indoor table with menus. Dinogirl immediately started circling the items she wanted for lunch while I read it out to the younger ones.

Great Lunch Meal Deal!. I visited Armada last week for lunch and was most impressed with their $15 meal deal which included a glass or house wine, beer or softdrink - great value for Perth!

My meal arrived quickly, was hot and tasted really good. Definitely recommend this for anyone looking for somewhere to go. Had a look at their dinner menu and will be there next week with my family for a meal.

There are also upcoming events, social nights and music nights plus cheap drinks during their daily Happy Hour.

We went back..... This is a place my friends and I frequented mainly because of the $20 lunch time deal with a meal and glass of wine/beer/soft drink. What a bargain.

The Armada closed for a few weeks to carry out renovations. Last Friday we went back. We were all looking forward to a nice meal again. The new renovations seemed nice. Still have the smoking area outside so we are limited to eating inside. The staff very pleasant. BUT the $20 lunch time special had ceased. 

3 of us ordered the Nasi Goreng. $26. We expected since this is what we used to order for $20 this one would be a bigger size. Nope. Same size as the special. No drink included and you pay more. Huh? Maybe the waiter saw our disappointment because he gave us a bowl of prawn crackers.

1 person ordered the Pear and Chicken Salad – She’s still not sure if there was pear in it. It looked very refreshing tho.

1 person ordered the Aussie burger. Good sized burger but nothing special.

And the last person ordered the fish and Masala chips. He had never had masala chips before and after talking to the Aussie Burger man, he was really looking forward to these Masala chips. His order came out. Tasted the chips. Didn’t taste any different to chips. Aussie burger man looked at the chips and said “Nah, they aren’t Masala chips”. Asked the waiter if they were Masala chips. He said yes, but he would check with the chef. Apparently the chef forgot to put the Masala spice on the chips. Ooops.

It’s a pleasant place to eat but we feel a little ripped off that we are paying more for less.

Or maybe we are now paying for their renovations.

Nice, but.... We were given a voucher for breakfast from our hotel nearby, as their own cafe was not open, ok with us. Turned out to be continental, tried to upgrade but no way apparently on their(armada) system, so settled for the conti. We had another join us, and he paid for the full breakfast ($27) it all looked nice, on my side of the division between cooked and conti. Clean, organised and fresh. Nice coffee machine for caps, mochas etc with a mug warmer. Plenty of food, didn't need the cooked stuff really. Being a Sunday morning, we weren't in a hurry and not watching the clock. I guess we got there about 9.40. By the time we got organised to eat, was just on 10. Bing bong! My companions had started eating and I was just seating myself with my plate when the waitress stopped by to say that if we wanted anything else from the buffet to get it now because they were packing it up. That explained why the bloke was carting off the oj while I was still getting my toast. Silly me thought he was refilling. So I say, well, I don't know if I want any more, haven't even sat down yet, and she looked confused. Ok, I get it, manager says do this. But, did feel a bit rude, it was all money in the jar for them, and we should have been afforded the same service as earlier customers. Food and ambience was nice tho, and so was the waitress.

This time I hopped my way through Game City , The Aviary , The Deck , Helvetica Bar and Armada Bar & Grill (then maybe back to Helvetica for good measure). I was particularly excited because the friendly team at Armada Bar & Grill (or is it Armada Restaurant & Bar?) invited me to try their new menu. To be honest, I had no idea Armada existed and I was very keen on trying somewhere new and hidden. “Pork loves sugar and these babies had some serious lovemaking moments.” Off the beaten track, at the base of Travelodge Perth, Armada Bar & Grill’s newly painted restaurant was gleaming with clean walls and neutral tones. After a conversation with the very friendly Service Manager Azmi, he advised that the restaurant will soon be adorned with paintings to bring some more life to the space. The restaurant had just completed a refurbishment and they are still putting on the finishing touches. The outdoor space was fun and modern, with a mix of high bar tables and stools, comfy printed couches with accents of purple and the usual lower tables and chairs. From May 1st the outdoor space will have live performers to bring a little more atmosphere. I found the alfresco area fun and a nice way to spend an evening under the stars. The restaurant has a lot of potential and I am looking forward to seeing what splashes of colour comes with the paintings. We were seated halfway between the outdoor area and restaurant, allowing the husband (Adam) to watch the cricket and I could enjoy the ambiance of the alfresco. “You don’t want to be served a massive slab because you end up hating yourself for finishing it (because seriously, who doesn’t finish a dessert? No room? Move a kidney, make it fit. It’s sticky date pudding).” The staff were very attentive and we were tak

Likes: pan fried squid salad, caesar salad with heaps of toppings, big desserts; Value for money: reasonable; Overall: great restaurant bar for Friday arvos, tasty lunch options for $15-$20

Not Nasi Goreng. Ordered Nasi Goreng. What arrived was Chicken Satay Sticks with peanut sauce (allergic) cup of rice with egg on top, a cherry tomato, hate tomatoes 3 pieces of cucumber with seeds removed and three prawn crackers.
This is not the Nasi Goreng I remember having here. Total dissappointment, only work next door will not be coming back. And for one of the other girls that ordered the same thing was unable to eat the chicken or the peanut sauce.
Total waste of $26.00.
I can now see why you can't see what's on the menu online. We would not have bothered.

Terrible service. Just not enough people working tonight. Had to wait for everything but got worse as it got busier. Never did come and clear the main course or ask if we wanted a dessert. Disappointed.
Sweetlenin0692
Food was ok but service was very poor. I dined on my own, I waited a long time to be seated. I then was not asked what sauce I wanted with my steak, salad was not dressed, I ordered a drink on arrival but was not asked again, after waiting ten minutes to order dessert, I left. Service sucked!

We went for lunch.service was crap. not very busy. Waited at least 20 min before even placing a drinks order. Then another 50 mins before our meals arrived. Chicken and pear salad for the "boss" and Nasi goring for myself. Needless to say we won't be heading back

Awesome awesome.. Loved your food . Keep up the great work. Staff AAA..:) very happy

Enjoyed a late lunch . We decided on sliders as both previously having them in USA and loving them.
Sadly to say we were dissapointed . All three were with lettuce, cheese and tomato . No dressing , no relish, boring and bland .
Great venu. With a relaxed crowd. Enjoying their lunch
Mystery Diner
Great service & ambience. Went there on a Sat night for dinner. The place was relatively quiet.
Setting: Nice hotel type setting. A few booth seating on the side and afresco dinning.
Food: Duck risotto (risotto was salty and oily, duck was ok); Lamb shanks (salty); scotch fillet with mushroom sauce (ok).
Service: Great! The waitress was very friendly
Overall: I dont like the food but I will happily return for drinks or cake. It is a nice place for catching up with friends and family.

Went on friday night on a scoopon and just loved it food was lovely between four of us we tried just about everything and couldn't fault it sat outside great atmosphere good service will definitely be back

Needs a tweek. Nothing really wrong with the food but needs a little tweek.....I had the pork rib (really a pork cutlet) with red cabbage and pumpkin mash. The pork was cooked to perfection and there was just enough cabbage (a perfect accompaniment) but barely a tablespoon of pumpkin. As the pork cutlet was a generous size, this dish really needed some more vegetable (maybe a potato mash) to round it out. I felt like I had to ration out the cabbage to go with the meat to make it enjoyable....such a shame when some mash would have lifted the dish to excellent. Another on our table had the sliders and loved them. Staff were great and ambiance good.
OnePointFive
Dissapointed.... What they called pork ribs is actually look n taste like pork chop??? Not worth the value.. Burger Slider was nothing special really. Should have gone to Terrace Lounge instead! *regret*

Best around!. I eat here often as I work close by and it is a great restaurant/bar. Good staff, decent and simple menu and nice ambience in the restaurant. Always nice to sit outside in the alfresco area (weather permitting). Good beers on tap and Friday afternoons generally bring in a good crowd- adds to the ambience!
The food is good especially the $12.95 schnitzel/chips and salad special on Thursdays. They usually have specials- just ask the staff. I think they have a new chef so food may be done a little different (for the better I reckon!). Take a friend and enjoy a good priced nice meal, sit out in the sun and enjoy a beer.

Not so good ........ I was expecting a reasonably good dining experience after reading the reviews. The tasting plate was abyssmal for $22 - few pieces of garlic bread, three really small portions of very average dips, bit of chourizo, few olives. That's it. Nasi Goreng was one dimensional and tasted like half a bottle of fish sauce was in there. Some of the others were okay - kangaroo kebabs were good. For deserts, the churro's were good but the sundae was pretty rubbish. All in all - little or no care taken with the food and the service was similar.

Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was good quality, and we were able to switch the mash with the steak to beer battered chips (which was definitely the right choice!) Crisp, tasty chips cooked to perfection! Salt & pepper squid salad on the entree menu was also a great choice. We did not have a Scoop On voucher & the menu was different to the website (more expensive). Maybe they just haven't updated their website? All in all, a great experience.

Quite Disappointed!. I went to this restaurant on a Friday night with my mum using a Scoopon voucher, which entitled us to $120 worth of ANYTHING on the menu. We had looked at the menu online and had pretty much decided what we would get, but when we got to the restaurant the menu was quite different, missing the options of steaks and chicken kiev, chilli mussels and they even changed the prices. The entree menu was double the price of what it says online, this is so misleading as it didn't say anything about a "different" menu for Scoopon users. Anyway, we both proceeded to order salt & pepper squid salad for entree, out of the 6 choices available. 5 minutes later the waitress comes back saying that they have run out squid AND 2 of the other more favourable entrees. It was only 7pm. This left us to choose from a tasting plate of bread & dips, or soup, or garlic bread. We got the tasting plate to share as it would have been our second choice anyway. We received our entree and it was bread, with pepperoni & olives on the side, plus creamy mango dip, creamy avocado dip, and a feta cheese dip. The bread was lightly toasted, nice and warm. The pepperoni & olives were very oily, but they were warm and tasty. All the dips had a good flavour. For main course, mum had steak with mash potato, pink peppercorn sauce and a jus. I had bangers and mash which also came with a jus. The steak was quite grisly, and not a nice juicy piece of steak. My sausages were thick and had an okay flavour, but it was probably bad choosing on my part as it was just a big pile of sausages and mash with lots of sauce. By the time dessert came we were both pretty full, but we wanted to try the dessert (and we didn't want to waste the credit!). For dessert we shared churros with white chocolate ganache, and an ice-cream sundae that was supposed to come with chocolate fudge sauce. These were the worst desserts I've ever had. The churros were not even cooked inside and they were drowning in the "white chocolate ganache" which was literally just custard. We couldn't even pick the churros up because they were that undercooked. The sundae was a big scoop of store-bought vanilla ice-cream, brownies that had gone hard, marshmallows (they were actually nice...) and some berry sauce that was definitely not mentioned. I think they must have run out of chocolate sauce and replaced it with horrible raspberry sauce from the shop. The table next to us barely even touched their sundae. We didn't complain to anyone as the kitchen was already closed (at 9pm) and the waitresses looked like they wanted to go home, but the majority of the desserts were still on our plates so hopefully they got the message through that. I also ordered an iced coffee before the desserts which was quite nice. It had a bit of ice-cream at the bottom of the glass, and whipped cream on top, but the iced coffee itself was a bit too strong for me.

Overall, I really didn't enjoy this dinner and I wouldn't go back again. I'm just glad we had a voucher and didn't actually pay $120 for the standard of food we received. I would recommend choosing the tasting plate for entree and the iced coffee. The churros might be okay if they're cooked properly... maybe try the crepes or the creme caramel, or just stay away from desserts.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Went there a couple of times with the Scoopon Vouchers for breakfast. Booking is a bliss and staff on the phone were very friendly and helpful with information asked. Not a big restaurant but love the ambience. Staff are very friendly, always with a smile and very accommodating, and the food is freshly cooked to perfection. I highly recommend Armada to those who have never been there.
To the staff at Armada, thank you and keep up the good work!

Great atmosphere with live music every Friday! Loved the food and good service!

Good food & place. Went a few days ago on a scoopon voucher for buffet breakfast with friends. The food, service and place was all brill, loved it all. Will certainly be going again on full price.

Always enjoyable. I very rarely comment on these sites but wanted to give my ‘5 cents worth’ for one of my preferred restaurants – Armada. Sometimes these comments influence a person’s decision to try a restaurant or not and there are some patrons you can simply never please (as can be seen in some earlier posts), so here is my opinion:
Armada is one of my favourite restaurants in Perth, in fact I choose to walk all the way from the Western end of the city to Armada for the varied and appropriately seasonal selection of specials and friendly staff who remember and greet their regular guests by name. Thursdays and Friday afternoons can get extremely busy so the food sometimes takes a bit longer than it normally would but I can’t say I have ever had to wait an unreasonable length of time and at least the atmosphere is jovial and they have a great selection of beer and cider on tap to make for an enjoyable evening.

I work down the road from Armada and dine there all the time. There are always new specials so I never get bored of the menu. The staff and management are absolutely fantastic which is part of the reason I keep going back. They always make me feel welcome and they should be complimented.
Lovesgoodfood
One of my top ten worst dining experiences! Have just finished having the $12.95 schnitzel special with chips and salad.... Who knew that it, along with 5 wontons take over an hour to produce - the chefs must have had a great time running around and catching the chicken and cow the schnitzels came off. Wontons were cold, flavourless and I would be hard pressed to find any of the ingredients listed. My schnitzel wasn't what I ordered, both were soggy, chips were soggy and salad had the better part of half a bottle of balsamic on it. Restaurant manager had scowl on her face for the nearly two hours we were there and when asked nicely for cutlery it was picked up off another table and dumped in front of us. I tend not to be too fussy and generally won't write stuff about places as I know that staff/chefs etc can have off nights but for god's sake please do not go here if you have little patience and want anything remotely edible.

Excellent food, well-priced for what you get. My friends and I went to Armada last week for dinner as I'd heard it was good. I liked the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant, pretty cool place.

We shared entrees - salt and pepper squid, spicy chicken wings, and shrimp and snapper wantons - which were all good. From memory the entrees were really cheap compared to most restaurants (unless you're going to Hans or something!).

I had the chicken ceaser salad that was one of the best ceaser salads I've had. Can't remember getting a chicken ceaser for any less than $25 anywhere in Perth let alone a nice restaurant like this.

Others in our party had the BBQ ribs and Nasi Goreng which were all good, and a standout for my fiance was the steak - you have a choice of steaks, sauces and other special toppings - my fiance got the scotch fillet with red wine ju and pistacio crust. We all had a taste because he raved about it. It was really good.

Waitress's attitude left a bit to be desired, that's about my only complaint. This is one of my favourite restaurants now and we're booked to go there for our annual family pre-Christmas get-together as the prices are excellent for the standard of food you get.
Emma
Disappointing. Well where do I start? The staff are uninterested in doing their job. We had to call them over repeatedly to order. The food was appalling. Crumbed calamari which was chewy and looked like fish fingers, dory fish which tasted like fish frozen for five years, steak which needed a chainsaw to cut and chicken fajitas were a non event. We returned two meals to the kitchen and there was no apology from the staff. Even the water was disgusting. This place needs to lift their game.
Stacey
Took 40 minutes to get mains out, probably because the chef was outside for 20 minutes talking to some friends.... Food was good but totally not worth the wait.
Carol
Ordered the crab pasta. To my surprise it is served as a crab in the shell covered in sauce and the pasta separately. I don't think I have ever eaten a crab pasta and had to remove the shell from the crab. The menu says 'mixed in', obviously they don't know what those words mean.
James Charles
Staff were friendly and food came out quickly. The chilli squid entree was tasty and the spatchcock with couscous was tender and tasty. Will go back.

Mid week Lunch. This place has a nice ambience during the day, buzzling with people. Food is reasonably (pub priced) range $15-25 and tastes fairly good. On order was a Nasi Goreng, Asian Stir Fry noodles and Honey Mustard Chicken Breast. Service was fairly slow but probably due to the huge number of lunch patrons they had. We also had the ET card which made the meal pretty good value!

Have a look at their menu: http://www.travelodge.com.au/travelodge-perth-hotel/armada-restaurant-and-bar

Good variety and worth a try..
Xian
Not Worth It. Overall, although the restaurant has what appears to be a fancy and delectable menu, the end result is not worth the exorbitant price.

We ordered the Lamb Shanks and the special of the day, a Sirloin Steak.
The Lamb shanks were tasty but nothing really that special. Whilst the Sirloin was a thin fatty Sirloin that was hard to cook to the right temperature.

The service was okay, but a bit lack considering there was no-one else really dining there. It was a little annoying however that they never thought to bring us a steak knife.

In short, i am sure you can find a better place to eat for the same money.
Melanie Hoffrichter
The food was very average. The waitress had no idea what was on the menu or how to explain it one explanation was " it's like prawns in a bowl".
