Review The Full Moon Thai Restaurant - Perth

Cale Byrne
Great restaurant! Hidden gem just north of Perth and definitely worth the visit. It’s so authentic and cute inside - great for date night or groups. We ordered 2 entrees and 2 mains and was around $60 which is super cheap. Food was delicious and loved everything we ordered - the golden bags are a must! Will definitely be back 😄

The food is always top notch here. Quirky decor and furniture but the food is reasonably priced, plentiful and always delicious. Not a dud choice on the entire menu. Try the golden bags. You'll write and thank me later.

Most of the standard faves on menu. Steamed rice was served to each person (no set quantity) rather than being left on table, which was annoying as there were still plenty of the curries left when first round eaten,so had to go up to the counter to ask for more rice, with procedure same as before. Very cold night but heating was minimal, needed to keep large jackets on.

Good Thai food. The prices are also good. Large portions, with plenty of meat. The dishes ordered were Thai Green Curry Beef, Stir Fried Basil Chicken, Red Curry Vegetables and Tom Yum Chicken Soup. The last was a bit different from what I have had at other Thai places and didn't taste as good as that from other Thai places
Vel
The chicken pad thai was very disappointing. No peanuts as I didn't ask nuts free. I won't visit here agin.

This is this restaurants version of a Pad Thai. I hate leaving reviews so I did call the restaurant asking for a refund, 4 prawns and some noodles for $16 is incredibly poor. I received the response of this is the way we always cook the pad Thai since we’ve opened. Save your time and your money.

Came here for dinner tonight as part of our hunt for Perths best Beef Massaman Curry. This place is quite adorable. Small, but filled with lots of pictures of Thailand and its lovely people and royalty. The staff were really friendly and accomodating. We sat down and not long after a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 small children) were sat right next to us. The tables are very close together and it was just unfortunate that they were sat next to us as we all know how crazy and loud kids can be. Was also hard to have a conversation without being overheard at the next table. We ordered the Satay Chicken skewers for entree. The sauce was delicious but unfortunately the chicken was a little dry and stringy. We both ordered the Beef Massaman curry for main and shared 1 serving of Jasmine rice (which im glad we did because the serving was HUGE!). The curry sauce was to die for, sweet and peanuty. The beef was tasty however I prefer chunks of beef to strips of beef in my massaman curries. Tasty however. Overall the prices are great, the portion size is excellent, the staff are lovely, the flavour is amazing but unfortunately the quality of meat was lacking. I would return here to try something else on the menu.

Food was delicious and very authentic.

Service was great as well as we tried ordering things that weren’t on the menu and they were able to do it.

Dined here last night as our usual place had closed down 😪
Drove around looking for a replacement and saw this place on Walcott street open and easy to park out the front. It was 6pm and walked in without a booking.
Out of the 16 tables of 4 chairs, only 3 were occupied.
Young girl asked if we had a booking and looked a little nervous. I said no, but we won’t be long either . There was 3 of us. She directed us to the front next to the front door and that was were we had to sit. Strange.

Looking thru the laminated menu we chose the following dishes
Golden bags
Tom yum soup
Beef massam
Green curry chicken
Prawn rice

Whilst they were preparing our feast. We admired all the colourful surroundings of the Thai culture & royal family. Very small restaurant to say the least but very colourful and tightly packed room.

Young staff seemed friendly

All in all it was nice.

40 mins later we asked for a doggy bag as we were ready to leave as they were obviously expecting a crowd. Hence they were not to happy we arrived without a booking.

The young girl then said they can’t do a takeaway container as it’s “Free Dining”.
Confused with this, and didn’t want to argue, we then proceed to squeeze more in .

Now Full

I went to pay

The young girl said again , “It’s free dining but if you want to make a donation, that’s fine”

I said no no, I just want to pay the bill please.

Again she said, “It’s free dining as it’s the kings birthday & you make donation please “

I said No, can I please pay with my card.

Again she said, it’s free dining.

I was now confused.

Thankfully a local said, “ It’s the kings birthday and once a year the restaurant can not charge or accept eftpos transactions for meals on this particular night”
So, all meals are Free, including take always.

I apologised I had no cash , thanked them very much & left

I will be back

Thank you

Happy birthday King 👍🏻😇🤗
Great little spot, doesn’t look much from the outside and the decor is interesting however the food quality is awesome and the prices are very affordable! They even offer delivery for only $3! It’s our regular takeaway spot and the food never disappoints!

Full Moon Thai has an undeniable foreign charm that attracts foodies seeking an authentic Thai experience. The green and massaman curries are particular favourites. Full Moon consistently delivers strong flavours and generous portions. Special shout out to the interesting interior design that instantly transports diners into the colour and fragrance of a lively Bangkok.

BEST Thai food in Perth! We go here regularly and are never disappointed! The staff are so friendly and accomodating and the food is DELICIOUS! Couldn't recommend higher!

Best Thai food in Perth! The curries are divine, and the Spring Rolls are to die for. Not to mention the nicest service that treats you like family. Seriously. Eat here.

lovely food and great services. The dishes we ordered are also in generous portions.

We've been looking for a authentic Thai restaurant for a long time since one of my favs in Mt Lawley moved away. Will definitely put it on our regular visited restaurant. Love love love.
Jjo
I went with a friend and we were not impressed. They do very bland Thai food. Cute inside and good service though. There should be vibrant flavours with this type of cuisine, unfortunately it wasn't the case.
Stacie
Great food fresh and hot. Staff very polite and efficient. Hadnt been for a couple of years but will definately be back. Delivery service also available

DISGUSTING! Have been a long time customer of Full Moon, and have previously enjoyed their menu. Tonight I tried the *NEW* Spicy Pad Thai... BIG MISTAKE, I'll never order this dish again. I paid $16 for a dish that was pretty much just noodles with some dried chilli flakes on top. The online description said it was meant to contain prawns (mine had 4, though I did receive an additional prawn tail), tofu (mine had 3 tiny pieces of what I think was tofu), egg (2-3 shrivelled up pieces of egg), beanshoots (NONE in my paid thai), crushed peanuts (again, NONE) and noodles (yep, a whole lot of those)!!
Bottomlesspit
Grabbed takeaway from here and was super happy with the sizes. Great value for money! I LOVED the cashew and chilli vegetables over rice. They were so crisp and crunchy. The Pad Thai was nice, it's hard to disappoint me with that and there was lots of chicken in it. It was just quite sweet. Like my friend mentioned, they needed some lime to cut through it. All in all was happy with the meal!

We decided to order the take away cashew nut chicken and pad Thai which were both delicious ! The food arrived fresh and Hot !
Will definitely order from here again - we thoroughly enjoyed our food 😊
The Ponder Room
The minute you step foot into the Full Moon Thai Restaurant all your senses kick in and they don’t stop until it’s time to leave. Normally such a heightened level of clutter would leave consumers feeling overwhelmed and confused, yet the opposite seems to be true at the Full Moon. Could this exception to the rule be onto something? Could it be the best Thai restaurant in Perth?

I think we have a new favourite Thai restaurant, on the unpretentious end of the scale. This little place on an unfashionable part of Walcott St Mt Lawley is small but friendly with extremely busy and somewhat quaint decor as you can see from the photo above, a shrine to the revered Thai royal family, but none of that really matters. The food is first class, and that's all the only important thing. Nothing pretentious, just delicious. We tried some predictable regulars, the Tom Yum Soup, the Pad Thai and the Chicken Cashew Nut, very generous serves and as good as we've had anywhere. Most importantly, after several visits She Who Must Be Adored, who is subject to all manner of nasty afflictions from preservatives and additives, declared the food perfectly au naturel and safe for sensitive diners. So there will be many more visits. And it's BYO with no corkage, another bonus. Full Moon, full tummy, full marks!

We were looking for some good Thai food yesterday and so we went ot Full Moon for the first time.We basically made up a share table order for the four of us w and it was a great idea in the end.We had the usual favourites and nothing let us down . The green curry was great and not too hot while they served plenty of well cooked rice with our meals. The Thai chicken cashew dish was a little bland but it was still tasty and served well. The Tomyum soup was great but not for me - out of my 'heat' league but the others loved it (tough I'm sure Colin had a tear or two in his eyes)
casual dinner venue. We didn't have desserts as we kind of pigged ourselves out on the share meal set up we created but it was nice.Nice casual dinner venue
Thanks to the team there

Favourite Thai place, best in Perth that I have tried so far. Definitely recommend, especially the sweet and sour chicken. I could live on that stuff. Have always loved the decor too, there's just so much to look at!! Always friendly staff also.

I love this place - Excellent food/atmosphere but the staff ALWAYS lie and say they are fully booked over the phone. I can't figure it out why? Many times I have been knocked back on a table and then driven down to find the place half empty!
Also, cranking your air con to get people to leave / staring from the counter doesn't make them finish up any faster :P

Had the masaman curry take away - extremely delicious. Will be back.

Chicken Satay Sticks Fantastic - Fish Cakes Bad.. I ordered takeaway via home delivery from Full Moon Thai. It was my first sampling from this restaurant.

The person who answered the telephone was polite and I could understand her diction (not always the case, with regard to phone-answerers!), so a good start. She repeated my order to me to make sure she had taken it down correctly, so that was also very good service.

I was worried that the delivery person might not find my home as I live on the corner of two streets that have the same name, but my location is a 'Way', whilst the intersecting street is a 'Street' .It's very confusing for delivery people and they often go to the Street address - even though I always make sure to detail my address to the person taking the order.

To my surprise however, the person delivering my food order arrived, within the 40 minute time-frame the lady on the phone had given. I was impressed! The delivery man was polite and I handed over the $47 owing. I should mention that there is a minimum order of $37 if you want to have home delivery with this restaurant.

To the food: I ordered one Sweet and Sour Chicken ($16), one serve of Thai Fish Cakes($8) and two serves of Satay Chicken ($10 each). I decided to steam my own rice to save some money as the Sweet and Sour Chicken did not come with any.

My partner enjoyed the Sweet and Sour Chicken which had a nice amount of vegetables and lots of sauce. I didn't taste this but he ate it all.

We both loved the Satay Chicken. Fresh and tender chunks of chicken breast on bamboo skewers served with plenty of a lovely peanut sauce. The sauce was as it should be - slightly but not too sweet that it overwhelmed the peanut flavour and with a nice hint of chilli.

The fish cakes were terrible though. Advertised in the menu as 'The most famous Thai dish, fish souffle mixed with Thai herbs, red curry paste and deep fried served with sweet chilli sauce." These four round and flat cakes were very rubbery in texture and both felt and tasted like they were made from a pre-packaged crab mix. They were very dense and not souffle-like at all. If there were fresh herbs inside I could neither see nor taste any for the overwhelming saltiness and artificial preservative flavours that abounded.

My partner and I did not eat the fish cakes.

Based on my first experience of Full Moon Thai I would say it's a little 'hit and miss' in the food department. The home delivery service was excellent though.

Always great tasting food. Recommend the Pad Thai, Red curry Duck, sweet and sour, chicken wings, all really good value and delicious!! Live nearby and this is the takeaway of choice for our household.

Tasty food, BYO, cosy & quaint.. Been to Full Moon a few times and have never been disappointed. Consistently tasty food at reasonable prices. It's great to find a good BYO restaurant these days - it's much better being able to drink the wine of your choice rather have to drink a restaurant owner's selection. (There's a good bottle shop next door, too.) And there's no corkage at Full Moon, so it makes dining out more affordable. The quirky decor reflects the owners' pride in their home country and culture. It is unique and makes the restaurant cosy and inviting.

Best Thai. Been here many times and Full Moon Thai does not disappoint! Best chicken satay sticks and ginger beef! The service is amazing to!
Kylie
Nice flavours, although only got 4 prawns in the prawn pad thai!
Fiona
Went here for New Year. The first time we had been. We were not disappointed. The good was very nice and the service was great.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Rebecca Fergus
Would other people please stop coming here. It's my favorite place. If you keep giving it the fantastic reviews it deserves it will get busier and busier and I won't get a table bugger off newbies!!!
Nicole Reddie
Best Thai!. Absolutely love the food here, I will happily drive out of my way to get it. Favorite dish is the basil lamb or beef, so fresh and tasty.

Simple and Delicious. We have dined in, had take out and delivery. The menu is minimal but everything we have tried is tasty and hot. The spring rolls are huge, the money bags loaded with flavour, Satay chicken (could be a main). Pad Thai tasty and beautiful Chicken Penang! Great little place that is always pack out - a testament to its taste
Pris
Average. We ordered a typical takeaway of vegetable green curry, beef masaman and a tom yum prawn. total price was 40$. The portion was reasonable for the price (never found a single cheap Thai food place in Perth except S&T)

The taste however was a bit bland. Definitely ok for a normal takeaway night if you live nearby. i live two suburbs away so I won't be returning.
Ro Face
Phenomenal thai green curry, tom yum prawns, stuffed chicken wings and fish cakes. Ask them to dial up the spice a little if you like it authentic. The best.

Offhanded Service. We have seen a number of excellent reviews so decided to try this out.
Food is OK, although the beef in the Massaman curry was very chewy.
It was the attitude of the staff which will prevent us from returning here.
Very off handed, just dump the food in front of you & off they go. Not very service orientated, plus the chairs are rock hard.
Reggie
Ordered Pad Thai take away. Looked nothing like Pad Thai and tasted nothing like Pad Thai, will not be going back!
Luke Burdett
Great Thai take away. The massaman was delicious
Bee Gee
Good food Good price. Have dined here regularly and enjoy it every time. Have tried just about everything on the menu and have enjoyed the lot.
Would have to be one of the best value Thai restaurants in Perth.
Joseph
Looking good. The outside isn't the best but ones work in its very nice the foods great I will be back

Yummy!. We often get full moon thai takeaway delivered, fantastic quality of meat used and delicious sauces. We usually get the cashew nut chicken and special chicken fried rice with vegetarian spring rolls. It is the bomb. Every time. Very very excellent and good! You should totally try it!

Never had a bad meal at this fantastic and friendly restaurant. Lovely ladies and a definite favourite. Cashew nut chicken and golden bags are the bomb!

Average Thai. I ordered a take away a few weeks ago: Red Beef Curry and Thai Chicken Fried Rice. The curry was too thick and creamy, a little sickly. The rice was fine, but wasn't very flavourful. I'd be willing to give it another chance though, as it's the nearest Thai to where I'm living.
Izzy
Nice casual Thai but .... Nice food but I have to say the service is below avarage. Unfortunately, our dinner was ruined by a boy who seemed to be the son of their chef or staff running around in the restaurant but no staff was stopped him. It was disappointing. Good for take away for sure.
Bimdas
Average. Tried the Massaman beef and thai beef salad here with the other half. The Massaman was watery and the beef was tough and dry. The beef salad was tasty but the salad part was pretty sloppy with big slices of tomatoes and stalks on the lettuce and not much beef.
Not much finesse and doesn't compare to the real Thai food we've had in Thailand or other places. The prices here is also a little too high for the quality of food. It's a shame we really wanted to like the place as it is just around the corner but we won't be going back.
TimTam
Full Marks Full Moon. TimTam ordered the Chicken with Cashew nuts. There must have been half a chicken in it. Lots of tasty sauce too which she loves. Restaurant itself is unusual with ever inch of the wall covered in pictures (mainly of the Thai Royal family) with trinkets to match. Quirky but good, very good. TimTam will be back before the next full moon.
Hgreen
Tasty food at a good price. Great food - had the chicken salad, thai chicken fried rice and the stir fried vegies. Inside, the place is an eclectic mix, including big wooden tables and the walls and ceiling covered with pictures and artifacts from Thailand, including a lot of pictures of the Thai royal family. Keep an eye out for the phallic symbols on the counter which look strangely like darth vader ;-)
John
A hidden treasure. sssshhhhh!!!!! Too good to share with everyone.
Daniel
Great food at a great price and no BYO corkage. Gotta love that

We ordered delivery one lazy Saturday night and then ordered again the week after. Their Tom Yum Goon is the best I have had in Perth. Try are very generious with their servings of prawns too. We also ordered the pad Thai and the Penang curry. The pad Thai is so so but the Penang curry is bliss.
Annabella
Food was disappointing - no fresh ingredients all packet sauces. Best to go to maylands thai there is amazing.
IMHO
Worst Thai I've ever had!. The pad thai was sickly sweet and tasted like noodles and a bottle of sauce. When I requested a slice of lime or lemon (trying to cut down the sickly sweet taste), they told me they don't use fresh limes. The dish was all noodles - no corriander, chilli flavour, peanuts, sprouts... just noodles.

The fish cakes were pretty standard. Nothing to write home about.

The food does not taste fresh. I suspect it's all from packets and bottles.

AVOID!
Karl Rich
Fantastic food. Best fishcakes ever. Red curry very good. A little bit sweet but still yum!
Josh
Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The best thai beef salad ive ever tasted EVER!!!!!!!!! one of my all time favourite cheap eats!

weirdo decor though!
Just Peachy
Classic little Thai restaurant, I chose the red curry duck as suggested below, very tasty indeed but quite light on the duck given the added expense. Will be giving it another go though. Peachy

Yum!! BYO no corkage :)

Best Thai around! 5 stars!

The minute you step foot into the Full Moon Thai Restaurant all your senses kick in and they don't stop until it’s time to leave. Normally such a heightened level of clutter would leave consumers feeling overwhelmed and confused, yet the opposite seems to be true at the Full Moon. Could this exception to the rule be onto something? Could it be the best Thai restaurant in Perth? The Full Moon is tucked away in an small old Mount Lawley strip, making it easy to drive on by, something I have done for many years. Inside it’s a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. The walls flash with gold, statues and photos, like you’ve stumbled into someone’s small front lounge to admire their collection of cherished belongings. The service is the perfect mix of professional friendliness and calm. Knowing when to approach and when to keep away is a skill, and perhaps its this calmness that counters any

Very good Thai food and a great choice for takeaway. Really enjoyed their satay chicken skewers.
