Review Epic Espresso - Perth

raphael
One of the best coffee in my short trip to Perth, highly recommended, guess its the 2nd best after London Court Cafe also along Hay St. Definitely a relaxing place to hang out and chill in this wintry days.
Warwick Peatling
Nice little Cafe that I visit regularly; a Vietnamese family own/run it and they are always friendly & efficient. Great coffee delivered consistently (I go there almost every weekday without fail for my morning coffee and it’s always good) and a cool selection of lunches/pastries and bakery stuff. Would suit a formal (business meeting) or informal (friends, family) with both indoor and outdoor setting.
Mynhardt Claassens
Great coffee shop, friendly staff and the service was really good. They have a great menu.
Marcus Pierce
Service fine and friendly. Soy flat white coffee so hot I took a sip and burned my lips and tongue. Politely returned and explained the issue and was made another, cold and tasted like milk only. At $6.60 for a large I won't return, had to throw the coffee in the bin and get another elsewhere. It really was that bad!
Keith Wood
Phenomenal Beef Pho! Not sure if this is on their regular menu or a special, but I've eaten it the last three working days in a row! Lovely cafe, genuinely warm staff, great food... highly recommended.
Sandie Thorne
Coffee could have been served in cups, not takeaway. And could have had a better /stronger coffee taste. It was a bit milky for a flat white. But nice location.
Jake Stevens
Despite my high expectations, service destroyed my experience. Staff members appeared lifeless and when one of the other workers stepped up to the other till to take my order, they couldn't understand or speak English. I was patient and had repeated my self to simply be misunderstood and given the wrong coffee 4.50 for a shot instead of the originally requested latte. Working in the service industry myself communication should be top priority. This would have been 1 star however the other server was competent although lacking enthusiasm when serving two of my friends the food and drink were of a good standard.
Benjamin Carlisle
The barrista is super friendly and once you've been there a few time can remember your order. Food is good and so is the drinks.

Lara makes the best coffee in Perth! Miss working in West Perth and visiting Epic everyday!
Anna Richards
I visited Epic Espresso this morning and walked away knowing it would become a new favourite cafe of mine. The coffee was excellent, the service was excellent and my breakfast was, you guessed it, excellent. I also noticed how many regulars were in there which is always a tell tale sign to me that the cafe is a great one.
Marcho Marchesani
The best coffee in Perth, hands down guaranteed with service to match!!! Great way to start every work grinding day!
Bekz Lee
The kindest family run business i know, caring and warm with love in the coffee xx
Stephen Finnie-Locke
Excellent and relaxed service! Thank you !
Anna Janka
Love your Belgian hot chocolate!!
Joan Parami
My favourite coffee in Perth - I love how consistently good their coffee is every single time. Not the best in customer service tho - ive been going there for two years and i dont think they remember my name..
Frank
Poor customer services. Used entertainment voucher to try this place out and the portions were smaller than normal, I think that wasn’t the purpose of the entertainment voucher. Coffee was ok. Won’t go again!

Was in Perth for work and needed a spot with good coffee and something to bite on before work. Excellent coffee, welcoming service and opens early :)<br/>I had the walnut bread and bagel on the two days I was there. Both were good. Thank you!
Geoff
What a bizarre interaction! I ordered a roll that came with a medium coffee. Asked if I could swap the coffee for any non-caffeinated hot drink and was very bluntly refused. When I queried why or offered to pay the difference the lady just walked off. The next staff member then continued on with the same sentiment of how dare I ask for something. I was with friends so didn't want to take it much further but was pretty disgusted with how I was treated, my friends were in shock too. Maybe they'd just had a long tough day... food is average but convenient for a quick snack.
J-in-Perth
I've only had the coffee from here, but it was very good - service was quick & my takeaway coffee was brought to where I was sitting (a nice touch, I thought)
Occam
Easily the best coffee I have found to date in Perth. A traditional long mac here is an absolute delight - I have no idea what they do to their beans to achieve it, but its rich, red and creamy with a perfect balance. Yum!<br/><br/>Can't comment on the food, but the staff are friendly without being pretentious. Highly recommended.
Ishia Lauthier
Great coffee spot! Coffee is consistent and the staff are always lovely and friendly. The lemon slice is a must too (if they have it, I've noticed they don't have it everyday).
Jenna
Visited this cafe just before Xmas (Dec22nd) just by chance - had some time to kill & a baby to feed - and have never felt a warmer welcome anywhere esp with a baby in tow! They offered us a high chair off the bat, which they brought out, wiped down & sprayed with Glen20 🙌🏼 quickly brought out some boiling water to warm his milk & whisked his food off to the microwave, and kept stopping to smile at the baby and chat to him as they walked past us. Not to mention any other free time they spent cleaning the counter, floors etc... the place was spotless!! Oh and yes back to the coffee, amazing!! Top notch place with service that's impossible to match. I may live 20+ mins away but I'll definitely be packing up the baby and visiting again soon. Thank you ladies!!

Ordered a flat white with an extra shot for myself and some coffees and a wrap for my friends. The coffee was unfortunately undrinkable- Luke warm and watery. The wrap however was good :) maybe the coffee machine was being cleaned or something... Would of asked for another but had already walked back to the office before we tasted the coffees.
J Smith
This is my morning coffee spot, my flat white is consistently smooth and a tad strong. Perfect way to start the day. I've tried a bagel, croissant and a spinach ricotta pastry. They were made with fresh bread and ingredients. Service is efficient.👍🏼
Matchamadeinheaven
Friendly staff • great takeaway food • great coffee!!!! They use real dark Belgian chocolate in their mochas and they are sooooooo good! Food is really tasty and i love the bagels ☺ come here a lot for take away coffees and the lady is so friendly and funny!! Great spot hidden in west perth :)
FatCat
The coffee is good and there are plenty of newspapers to go around .  I like the bench seating at the front of the cafe - perfect for people watching and doing the cryptic crossword.  Service was not unfriendly.

I went back to the Epic recently after being told by a work colleague it was under new management. My last experience under the old management was not pleasant, as I found some staff very offhanded. Well Epic will become one of my favourite coffee venues again. The service was excellent and the coffee was great. The new team are pleasant and go out of their way to be friendly. Well done. Also tried one of their food selections and was pleased with my choice.
LittleGirlBigFood
I used to swear by Epic coffee. I no longer swear by it but it's still good. The coffee is very strong which I do not require. Many do so for them this is epic indeed.

Great coffee with yummy Danish what a good morning. Friendly staff with good service. Another great start to a good weekend with a yummy breakfast, we can't ask for more than that.
FoodinPerth
Bad bad bad.... What happened to this place? Gloria jeans feel. Terrible tasteless coffee. Very rude staff. As it used to be the cafe destination of west Perth, it is now unfortunately the cafe destination to avoid
Ben Burchill
What a great little coffee shop. Super busy but efficient. The coffee was great, the service was friendly and the waiter even "waited" for conversations to finish before politely excusing himself to see if we would like more water or another coffee. I will be back for a coffee and hope to arrange many more meetings there. Good job!
Danielle Russell
Just had one of the best cafe experience ever!! Super friendly, cheerful staff along with an excellent boss you looks after them!! Had the best chocolate frappé ever 😊 I will be back
JZ
Coffee is amazing! Quite busy, however fast service always brings me back here. 100% recommend!
Rikki Burns
Epic has never served me a bad coffee. Once they served me a barista who I felt was getting a little too friendly, but then I remembered I'm not actually that great and got over myself.
Subiwood
Could not be any more pretentious. <br/>I don't need a side order of rude staff no matter how good the coffee once was.
Sheld1978
The owner is too busy for her own good!. I was given a gift voucher to their Expresso Mastery class. The instructions said to check the website for class dates but all the dates available were already in the past. I tried to call several times over several days to find out new times with no response. So I visited the store only to be publicly abused in the cafe by the manager who advised that she hadn't had time to arrange a barrista to hold the class and that she doesn't have time to answer the phone. At least she had sense enough to refund my $190. Worst service I've experienced in a cafe ever!!!
Sclark
Hot Chocolates Downhill. Not as good as what they use to be
Ringo
Happy to pay for it. Just was having a little read of some of the negative bloggers ,its a shame australians have become so price conscious everything should be cheap and it confuses there actual sense of taste or quality eg all the cheap imports are taking over cheap frozen berries cheap seafood from vietnam etc if someone wishes to supply you with a quality product like epic eg bannister downs milk ,five senses freshly ground coffee ,expert baristas dont complain about it just move on to your cheap recyled bi-lo milk stale coffee and first day cofffee maker ,im sure you will enjoy it because its cheap i go to epic at least once a day and the consistency and quality is to commended keep up the good work epic and pushed the price conscious on to the nearest BP cafe/service station they will love ,might even get a free muffin with the coffee
Cafe Junkie
$4.20 for a SMALL size takeaway latte! What a rip off!!! I won't be back anytime soon.
Abbey
EPIC COFFEE more like EPIC FAIL - WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!. As we waited (outside) for Epic to make a coffee we had ordered. We were asked to not sit at the epic tables whilst we were holding other cafes coffee cups. Where are we suppose to sit whilst waiting for our epic coffees? The lady was rude and said "they were just trying to run a business". We were supporting there business but asked not wait at there tables. I was completely shocked and will NOT be supporting this local business and not to mention the most expensive coffee in West Perth. Never again!!!<br/>EPIC FAIL!!!
Food 2 Run
Wow great coffee, long mac was super...great vibe funky cafe in west Perth...be back for sure, busy and staff great...

Once was mighty. It was good...........a long time ago
Melbourne Coffee Lover
Overpriced for a bitter coffee. I am new to Perth and have been doing my research for good coffee in Perth. I had read great reviews about Epic Espresso so had to give it a try. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the taste as the coffee was quite bitter. <br/><br/>I don't mind paying more for a great coffee but I do mind paying more for an average coffee.<br/><br/>I'm also not a fan of having to put my own sugar in ... I think that's a simple thing the cafe can do for the customer.
Cream Puff
Quality consistent coffee. Always quality every time, staff are all lovely and very friendly.
Stephanie-Jane Lewendon-Lowe
Always the best coffee, staff, service and food! It is without a doubt our favourite cafe and a fantastic experience each time!
Muse
$5 for a dine in soy cap. so bad i couldn't finish it. disgrace...

Rude Service - Will Not Go back. I went to Epic today to sit down and have a coffee in my lunch break. Due to health reasons I cant eat any of there desserts so i grabbed myself a little something from the Rawsome (healthy Dessert) selection at a bakery (mind you it was a size of a mouthful). I sat in the furthest corner of the cafe waiting for my coffee eating my treat and reading a magazine until the manager came along picked up my rubbish and gave me an absolute mouthful about having to purchase food from them. Well I'm sorry i cant eat your food and I have food allergies or you don't supply healthy food but I was still more than happy to pay for a coffee as I do or did enjoy your coffee. I will not go back what so ever i haven't been that speechless for a long time and the manager/owner whatever she is she doesn't deserve to be in the position she is if she is going to treat customers like that. Hospitality defiantly ISN'T FOR YOU!!!! Do yourself a favour and find a new career cause you suck at the one your in at the moment!!!
Wanderer
Two years ago the coffee was really good, had one of the most balanced flat white. <br/>Went back last month and the coffee taste bad and the service attitude is worst.
Anitaslater57
Best coffee around. Prices a little on the high side but best coffee all round. Working in the city it is very convenient.
Live2Eat
Epic? Mediocre.. They do a decent cup of coffee... but I think it is overpriced, and it never comes with a smile. Also, they're never quite quick enough in the morning rush. I would definitely recommend going to Pony Express instead... a little off the beaten track, but this place has the best coffee in Perth and plenty of heart.
Anoushka S
Great strong coffee could have had two with the small size of the cup though. Enjoyed the hot choc but by far had the best brownie I have ever tasted there. So chocolatey so good!! Would def go back for coffee and cake
HungryInLeederville
Epic Prices. I can't give it a thumbs down because the coffee is consistent and probably the best in West Perth... but... you pay (*definitely* one of the more expensive cups of coffee in Perth), you get your receipt and you wait. It's pretty soulless. You can't call ahead to order and there are no loyalty cards. They do coffee very well, but other coffee shops at this level will get you to try a different blend or different brewing method, possible even *GASP* talk to you.
Coffee Snob
Fantastic coffee. people switched on about coffee. will be back. Flat white was superb.
ANGRY COFFEE MAN
Terrible service. I remember coming here for an overpriced coffee which was completely average (even bitter), charging a steep $6, and throwing in some horrible service?<br/><br/>Have things changed? I'll have to find out one day.
Andrew Lambie
Keep it up. Great coffee served by people who know how to make it... What else is there to say?
Sarah
Coffee was good but the lady with the big curly blonde hair is not friendly.<br/>Has an attitude.!
Ellie Knapp
Don't judge West Perth, they don't know any better.. Only in Perth can you charge $7.00 for a coffee. But you can't really blame West Perth. Maybe they haven't ventured into the CBD where you can get a beautiful creamy coffee, much like Epic, for $3.50.
Pandora
Coffee W@nkers. Served by a Tweenie with PMS. Coffee was made by one of two other children hardly old enough to shave. <br/>Was bitter and over heated and overpriced. There was no crema on top of the coffee. Tossed it into the nearest bin.<br/> All three of the peple behind the counter needed a personality upgrade and certainly they need to re-attend their barista training. And what is with no flavours - wankers!!!
George
Beautiful coffee. I enjoy this place. The coffee is always emaculate and service friendly. Yes, it is expensive, but doesn't seem more so than most places.
Jojifrey
Best coffee in perth. Delicious coffees, nice place, packed with guests, a bit annoying staff, but overall it's okay.<br/><br/>Will recommend and come back here.
Roxy
Served w attitude ! $8 something for a coffee and toast takeaway - coffee barely warm and had to wait for the toast which I couldn't eat on the run because I had to butter it myself! No thanks
Ethne_mcleod
Coffee nut. Taste of coffee beans is awesome Perfect temperature too.<br/>Service was nice and friendly. These guys are pros in the coffee game.

Pricey + snobby...in Perth. Recently having moved into West Perth for work (from the CBD) I needed to find a coffee fix. Not knowing the area too well, I tried Epic a few times.<br/><br/>Now don't get me wrong, the coffee is good, not the best in Perth, not "Epic", but very good. What did grind my goat was the overtly high prices (maybe this is where the Epic comes from) and the touch of snob that I got when asking for a sugar to be added to my coffee. In short, I was directed to a counter near the door which had sugar and told I could add it myself...something which I wouldn't mind if I was paying $3, however when paying $6+, a little bit of "service" would be nice.<br/><br/>Luckily, there are alternatives in West Perth, with great service, great coffee and realistic pricing.
Yolanda Azis
Unique and thoughtful. Taste of coffee beans were so unique, very fruity of stone fruits and honey this time. Latte was made perfectly, nice velvety froth, perfect temperature.<br/>They alter coffee bean origins and blends every now and then, so it's always kept interesting for coffee enthusiasts.<br/>Service was nice and friendly. These barista's are definitely professionals.<br/>Definitely epic.
Tanya Morgan
Missing the Buzz. Have recently moved back to working in West Perth after 4 years.. and was shocked - what happened to that happy go lucky atmosphere. Staff were boring and there was zero conversation.. Coffee amazing! but I've been trying other places around the area :) I think fun service is part of it.
Pumpkin Pie
Delicious and costly. After hearing rave things about Epic Expresso I thought I'd go give it a try. I typically order a skinny mocha, but since only the very chocolately belgian mocha was on offer I decided to leave it for another time where I felt the indulgence was worth an extra km on the treadmill. <br/><br/>Instead I went for my back-up coffee order, a regular soy flat white. Now, in all honesty this was an absolutely delightful soy flat white. It was gorgeous, it didn't even need a single sugar it had been drawn so well. I was left in awe of my coffee. However at a cost of $5.60 it's hard to imagine I'd return for my daily coffee fix when there are other cheaper and still lovely options around.
Cracqueen
Epic indeed!. Great Belgian Couverture Mocha! <br/>A little on the pricey side but it's well worth it to taste some good chocolate in your usual cup of mocha for once.
Zara
Friendly staff n' service was quick. But the coffee was just okay n too expensive seriously
Sammy
First of all, $4.2 for a flat white is slightly more expensive then other places. However, cimbalino charges that too and at least epics coffee is a lot better. But comparing epics coffee to some others I have had in west Perth, it definitely is not the best. Sorry I can't see what the hype is about
Optimus Prime
Belgium hot choc from heaven. Wow ! I just cant enough of it - what a great Belg Hot choc - I challenge if any place can even come a mile closer to the belgium hot choc they make here in Epic - great service too !
The Sneaky Pigeon
Below expectations. I don't know if its the soy milk they use or the combination of their beans with soy but my coffee just didn't taste that great. My sister had a skim cap but it tasted full cream and the coffee taste was very weak. Pony Express O is far better
Frasertr
For all it's expense and previous reputation there are much better places in West Perth these days. Shame they haven't maintained the quality.
The Love Birds
Best hot choc ever
Sarah From Mt Lawley
Used to walk a fair way out of my way every morning to get this coffee...not since pony has been around though. Epic is too expensive and not worth the wait.
Scott Mackenzie
Expensive and average. Whoa... went in fo a coffee and ordered a small long balck - "that'll be $4.20!!"<br/><br/>Coffee was average. There was a lack of crema and it was a little warm.<br/><br/>Still rate Mini Espresso in London Court as the best coffee in Perth so far.
KK
Decent coffee. Epic prices. I've heard a lot about this place, so when I moved up to West Perth for work , it was high on my list for coffee try-outs. <br/><br/>My usual is a soy mocha. I can typically get it for about 4.50-5.00 in most cafes. Unfortunately, when I arrived at Epic, I completely baulked at the thought of spending $7 (sorry can't remember the exact cost) for a soy mocha. <br/>So I went the cappucino instead.<br/><br/>Service was also a little cold. The two staff members behind the counter chatted their merry way while I stood right in front of them for a minute or two. <br/><br/>Prices and service aside, the coffee is very good. Not bitter, not sweet, right temperature, not too strong, not too weak, good crema.
Xavier Leenders
Perfectionist.. Comparing coffee shows is like comparing a pair of running shoes with your going out, high class party shoes. Both serve ultimately the same purpose, but function and serve in very different ways. At the risk of sounding cliche, with Epic, the function is consistently serving you the best espresso based coffee possible, regardless of the cost it takes to make such a drink. <br/><br/>Certainly, with two Synesso coffee machines, quality controlling procedural processes , and the most expensive (but quality ensured) raw materials, I can say that running this place would indeed cost a ridiculous sum of money. It all pays off though as this place is always super busy.<br/><br/>I have a great deal of respect for Sarah (the owner), not wanting to skimp of the fine detail and trusting her Barista's enough so as to give them the opportunity to work with such amazing equipment. On top of that, they have cold brew! And we all know that I like cold brew and I cannot lie.
Lawrence Breavman
Coffee is good & reliable (ristretto & espresso)<br/>like core before it, epic has gone downhill.
Vikin
There is no such thing as best coffee place, epic is pretty good n still serves great coffee imho, my usual is a small long mac to go. Its expensive though so I don't go as often as I'd like to. I go to pony n fix instead sometimes just to spread the love and support all the other good guys :)
Jason
Drive a Little Further. Location is great, staff can come across with attitude and coffee is nothing more than average. Drive a little further to King Street and you will find better coffee.....
Jenni
Worst coffee in wa. I thought i'd give epic a fair go, but after my most recent visit, i'm afraid i can't. the blonde barista behind the counter was cold and unfriendly, more interested in chatting with her colleagues than taking my order. my latte was burnt, and the foam not at all creamy like it should be. it was lukewarm and tasted bitter. i've had better coffees in truckstops. if you're looking for a good coffee, i would suggest passing epic. you may just get a good coffee, but chances are you won't.

Lost its soul. Epic Espresso once had excellent coffee AND soul. <br/><br/>Cory Diamond and his amazing team not only set the bar high when it came to coffee in Perth, but managed to create a vibrant and fun-loving environment in which to savour that wonderful brew. <br/><br/>Very sadly, seasons change. The atmosphere at Epic is completely flat now. Insipid almost. The coffee is still good. But I feel I've lost a very dear friend who was so close for so long. <br/><br/>Today, I said a fond little farewell. I will treasure the good times we once shared.
TheCarb
Yehh its good. Epic does make a beautifully poured coffee. But I think it's had its time at the top however, with many new places popping up that make an even more amazing flatty. Still very cool though
Rachel Greaves
Not Epic anymore. Unfortunately, since Corey Diamond (and a lot of his staff) moved on from Epic in December 2009, it is no longer Perth's best coffee.<br/><br/>Flat white post-sale too hot and too thin. None of the savouriness or brightness pushing through the milk.<br/><br/>Perhaps teething problems and I will try again soon.
Mark
Excellent espresso. Top espresso place in Perth, this is where the others go to learn what good espresso tastes like.
Kyran Wheatley
A perfect name, truly epic coffee, got a sweet edge - if you prefer a bitter coffee better scoot along somewhere else
Harvey Farrington
Best coffee in Perth. Staff n owner are very driven to make perfect coffee every time. The coffee training workshops are excellent and would recommend to anyone interested in coffee in general. Can get busy in morning pre work rush. Average food. Coffees r expensive but of very high quality. <br/>You only go here for coffee.
Paul Ward
There are good coffee places. And then there are great coffee shops. And then there is Epic, the cafe that makes coffee a superlative experience!
Frenchtoastandindiepop
Some time ago and at the very beginning of a discovery of a thing called coffee (now my life is defined by a ‘before’ and an ‘after’) I visited Epic Espresso. I don’t remember much from the visit besides the feeling of heaven in that first, perfect sip. It’s safe to say there was a lot riding on this visit. The cafe is deceptively spacious once you get past the crowd waiting for their takeaway coffees and we took a seat towards the back.

West Perth’s Epic Espresso is on a mission to be WA’s “ultimate espresso bar”. Many Perthites would say that they’ve already achieved that status. It’s one of those places that wins you over instantly. The coffee’s great and the service friendly. The only thing you might complain about is the perpetual queue. Epic’s roster of master baristas has inspired the café to launch an espresso school. Three different workshops are held twice a week at Epic Espresso and lead by head trainer Gabriel Tan, who has years of elite level barista experience and extensive commercial practice. To ensure maximum participation for attendees, there are no more than eight students per workshop. Espresso Mastery This workshop is perfect for a newbie in the industry or a home enthusiast. This workshop teaches the foundational skills of espresso-based drink creation, espresso dosing, milk texturing, machine maintenance and the identification of ideal roast profiles. 24 days of coffee Epic Espresso coffee review by guest blogger tastebuddy. I loved the beautiful coffee aroma whilst queuing up to order. I ordered my usual long macchiato, topped up which was $4.80 for a generous serve. My coffee arrived just the way I like it – nicely presented and best of all it was strong and smooth to drink… I’ll definitely be back to Epic Espresso again. The customer service was both excellent and efficient.

The workshop was informative, interesting and practical, providing backgrounds about how to source good coffee beans, bean storage, identifying roast profiles and of course teaching as the fundamentals of perfect espresso dosing, milk texturing, machine m
