Love this place. Vegan Thali with Dahl, Curried chickpea and veg. Saffron rice, salad and poppadom for $10. Brilliant value and super filling. ❤️❤️
Popped in here tonight, close to the centre of Perth and around the corner from the train station. A simple set menu with dine in or take out option served in simple surroundings. Served on a large tray the food was tasty and a decent sized portion. The menu changes from day to day. I had rice, chick pea and spinach Dahl, salad, poppadom, chutney and a desert. Worth every cent. Will definitely be going back.
Amazing vegetarian food. Used to be pay as you feel but now set prices. Still a very cheap meal and nutritious and delicious. Sometimes closes early before real closing time which is disappointing.
i remember when this was a Krishna "Pay as you feel" place. Thats changed but the prices are still very cheap. I dont find the curries/stews as flavorsome as Annalaksmi, but i really like the samosas and pakoras from Govinda's. The choices and variety of dishes changes frequently and the servings are very large
Great place for vegetarians like me. The food was quite tasty and resonably priced. Go for the standard meal and its a loaded plate for just 12$.
I would highly recommend this place specially if you are a pure vegetarian like me... :-)
Only flipside is that it shuts very early 7pm to be specific. But food is great and very well priced too.
If you are after budget, tasty indian styled vegetarian cusine in Northbridge, I'd recommend Govindas. You have to take it for what it is... veggie stews, pakoras and Samosas (think soggy overcooked veggies in the stewsbut still, for the price...) it's a hearty meal on offer, with authentic indian spices and flavours, and super-cheap. Run by Hare Krishnas staff are kind and portion sizes generous. Great student food.

Been an action packed one week so far in Perth. Today, the last day before I return to the arms of my half-half who would have functioned abnormally while I was away. The day started with breakfast in Miss Maud Restaurant, thereafter to Perth Zoo, 10 minutes at The Bell Tower and round the city in the traffic while deciding where lunch should be with the three friends. We had to decide quickly because my flight is in another 4 hours time and I was worried more than anything else, again, traffic. So, when Govinda's was mentioned, I didn't mind a vegetarian meal in this Hare Krishna restaurant that serves a good cause.
I definitely wanted to try this place for lunch after reading all the positive reviews. I can tell you that it didn't disappoint at all whatsoever. It met all my expectations like I imagined.
I had a friend from interstate showing him around city so I definitely wanted to take him some place nice for lunch. Even though it was a hot day, eating lunch here was very pleasant. I ordered the standard main course meal for me and my friend. It costed $12 each but if your a student it costs $10. For the price I think it's really worth it. There are extra sides that they offer as well. Samosas, pakora and etc which don't cost more than $3-$4.
Now onto the lunch, with the main course you get dhal curry, aloo gobi (cauliflower and potato curry), rice, red dipping sauce(don't know what it's called, sorry) and cous cous salad (photos attached). Then for dessert you get halva with hot custard. In my first mouthful, everything I ate tasted divine. When I looked at the portion size they were giving, I honestly thought it wouldn't fill me up since I have a very big appetite. But I was wrong, even with all the curries and rice all placed in a steel plate it was more than enough to satisfy me. I felt full and satisfied by the end of my meal.
The dhal curry and aloo gobi tasted fantastic. The red dipping sauce had an excellent balance of sweet and sourness to it, it all goes well when mixed with rice and dhal or even with aloo gobi as well. I ordered an extra veg samosa on the side which costed me an extra $3 but it was totally worth it. The samosa is nice and big. The pastry is flaky, crunchy and soft. But as soon as you eat it you realize it's freshly made and tastes delicious. Normally I'm not a fan of samosas but after eating it, I was big fan of it.
Lastly after the main course comes the desert. I cannot tell you how good this desert was because it blew my mind away. The halva mixed with the hot custard just melted in my mouth. Me and my friend were big fans of it. We were seriously considering ordering another one considering the small portion size but we just devoured it very slowly to experience this delicious desert.
Also with the main course, you can drink unlimited cold Lassi or water. The lassi is super fresh and not extremely sweet. It was really good. It had a great blend of sweetness from the fruit and milk. I was throughly impressed with it. Excellent refreshing drink considering how hot the day was.
In general, a great little restaurant from Hare Krishna located in Northbridge. The interior is good but has no Ac inside it. Since it was a hot day, I thought I couldn't last in this restaurant without an Ac but I guess the cool draft of air gave a cool ambience inside the restaurant when seated. Only minor complaint I have is to make the tables bigger and sturdy because the table me and my friend were sitting on was shaky and not stable. So get better and decent sized tables.
I guess the grace of Hare Krishna is within us which makes us forget about these small things. Furthermore, the staff are very friendly and helpful. You can eat here peacefully and really feel the love and effort put in the food because it tastes delicious as you eat each bite of it. You really feel the presence of serenity, calmness and positivity after having your lunch here.
Even with a decent portion size which I thought wouldn't be enough for me, it certainly filled me up and made me feel great. So I highly recommend visiting this place and bring your family and friends. I'll definitely be back here again. Hare Krishna!
Brilliant but not for Everyone. I am not a big fan of Indian food but ate on a number of occasions at the Hare Krishna restaurant in Melbourne and enjoyed it. The food at Govinda's is very similar and just as enjoyable. However, it did not appeal to my wife at all. Features that really appeal to me are the price, a more than reasonable $10 for lunch which consisted of a number of items including salad, rice and dahl (I think). Folks do not go here expecting haute cuisine. It is not and nor is the presentation where all the items are served on one metal tray which you drop off at another after eating. Not flash or classy but excellent tasting. For about the same price as a Big Mac Combo meal why wouldn't you go here
Really Tasty. Delicious comfort food and extremely good value. That dessert is SO good. I don't know if the value and taste can be beat in Perth!
This place is what dreams are made of. $5 Curry and really nice staff.
Very good. Excellent price and quality.
Great Place and Value for Lunch
Amazing curries and great karma.
Lovely Lunch. I could not have survived being a student with out my lunches here and even today the place still rocks - and have even more variety and nourishment. For a minimal price you get a veritabl platter of dishes - freshly and lovingly prepared. And free books! I make the semolina desert at home now too but still prefer their version. And if you can fit them in you can go back for seconds. Excellant place for lunch.
Love govindas- food and staff. I get the $5 take away at least one evening a week and it's great value for money. Some people may not like all the food packed into one box, but it still tastes great. Took me awhile to try the sweet, but its delicious. Often get the samosa which is $3, also great spices. Worth a visit, try it!
Great Value. Love the $4 takeaway dinners. The curries are delicious and great value for money.
$4 for huge tub of curry and rice. Lots of veg, flavoursome curry sauces and a huge dollop of dessert in a large tub. Love it.
Brilliant value, food was delicious and hot. They say it's a buffet, but the servings are so large and filling I doubt many people could fit in seconds. I love that it is not a 'serve yourself' buffet - much more hygienic this way with someone serving you. Will be going back many times I'm sure!
Recommended. Lunch today at Govinda's - quiet place with standard 'buffet' costing $10 - incl 'all you can eat' rice / veg curry / dahl / poppadom / desert. They serve you, so not a help yourself 'all you can eat'. Tasty - would go back, but not every day!
I'm hysterical with excitement that this place has reopened!! I love the food here and especially that I can get a takeaway $4 box when I'm too zonked to cook. Happy Hare!!
So happy this place reopened. Delicious curry that's cheaper than you'll find anywhere; as a meat-eater even I can't resist a great vegan curry and lassi for five bucks. Left a real void when it closed, and it's just as good as ever now it's back up and running.
The best.. My friends and I have been going to this lovely little Hare Krishna joint for about 7 years. Having been rather upset at it's abrupt closure a few years ago, we were very excited when it re-opened just a few doors down from its original premises late last year. The food is the tastiest and cheapest that you'll find all over Perth and the man who works there is super friendly with an excellent memory for faces. Consider yourself extra lucky if you find yourself there on a day that they're serving the paneer curry and onion bhajis .. YUM!
So good!. The best value for money and the most delicious food anywhere ever
Great lil place for a lunch break. Lots of healthy vego food for $10 set price. That includes curry, rice, salad, pappadum, dessert and drink. Amazing! I preferred the larger, old venue but grateful the people didn't disappear altogether.
I like this place.... ... way more than I should. As a dedicated red-meat, hippy-bashing redneck with about as much spiritual enlightenment as that green slimy stuff that grows in your pond I should really hate on Govinda's. But I just can't. It's really nice. Good food, really cheap, friendliest service staff I've met in ages and it's got a nice feeling to it. Just don't tell anyone I like it....
Brilliant food. The food is absolutely delicious, & the four-dollar-takeaways are a must if you're on a tight budget. lunch is extremely well priced as well, & more than one could wish for!
highly recommended
Best value curry. I've been hanging out for these guys to reopen. Delicious food and ridiculously cheap afternoon take-aways
Reopened. I was happy to find out that Govinda's has reopened at 194 William St Perth. They're still doing their budget takeaway offer from 4-7pm. Awesome value for great food.
A warm, healthy, and hearty home-cooked meal for $10 from Govinda’s...plus $4 takeaway after 4pm
Will always pick up a vege combo takeaway after 3:30 if I’m walking past this area. Food is always full of flavor & very fresh!
For $7 a box, not a bad deal at all In the heart of Northbridge.
Had the evening meal dine in. Best value going around Perth. The quality of the food is also amazing. Always stopping by for some curry and rice.
I've been coming here since I was very little- so I'm not sure whether it's the food or the nostalgia but l love this restaurant more than any other. The epitome of cheap and cheerful
This place makes you feel welcome. The portions are very generous. Flavours are tasty but exotic. I highly recommend this place if you’re not afraid to try new things. I’ll be back 😊
Tasty food . No stars for presentation and texture for this colourless mushy food (why is Indian food always overcooked?), but at $7 for a large portion of ready to go nutritious and tasty takeaway food what’s to complain ? Went back twice . No photos to post , wasn’t anything photogenic about it .
So cheap! Down to earth place. I enjoyed my curry & Halvah! Will definitely return.
The food is very simple and taste like homemade food. Dal is always good. Great halwa also .
