Review Antico Cafe - Perth

Great food, good size servings. Quiet atmosphere. Eaten here a few time. Price a little on high side

We were there for lunch on a warm day and the restaurant had two or three other tables occupied. The location is great, staff were friendly, the service very good and the meals we had were delightful. The main thing going against it was the lack of air-conditioning. When we asked if the air-conditioning could be turned on we were told that it was on. It was uncomfortable inside and the doors were shut. On leaving we found it to be far more comfortable outside

Thank you, Antico owners and staff for a wonderful birthday dinner last night. We booked for 30 but 2 cancelled due to flu. The remaining 28 had a great time and didn't leave until 11pm!!!!!! The food was absolutely marvelous! Everyone commented on the large amountd on the appetiser share plates we had at the beginning, washed down with copious champagne and wine. I urge more people to use this fabulous restaurant for their gatherings or weekly meals. Well worth it! . You won't be better looked after, anywhere else!

Has varied from a lovely family meal on several occasions down to our last visit where we were served rotting prawns on a steak and meals brought out so far apart that an undercooked soggy pizza came out after all others had finished. Went home nauseated and would struggle to go back. I know anyone can have a bad day but no chef would cook like that.

Worst meal I have ever had. Had the seafood dish with chips and salad. Prawns tasted like they were off and were extremely dry, fish fillet as dry as, and the 2 scallops (could have sworn they were the centre of an onion) soooo small and absolutely no taste. Nearly $40 what a disgrace.

There was no atmosphere, completely empty when we walked in. No music, staff sitting down. The menu wasn’t very impressive, basically pub meals. The food ordered tasted okay but wasn’t what you’d expect for the price. Toilet facilities weren’t clean even though there wasn’t anyone in the restaurant. Probably wouldn’t eat there again.

We went with friends and all of us really enjoyed it very much. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and we loved the atmosphere. Claudia, our Italian waitress , was just delightful. We will be back.

Tin spaghetti is cheaper and tastes better I'd avoid this place at all costs. I ordered two pasta meals on Uber Eats and the price was almost $60. Definitely not worth the money.

Been here several times over the years, used to be reasonable food, but last Saturday food was pretty average, and service ditto.
Not sure what has changed, ladies reckoned toilets were dirty, over flowing and not flushing.
Be nice if they got their act together as location is handy.
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
I have walked by this restaurant so many time! I actually said to my friends I wanted to try this but they said they didn’t have a good vide on it! I should of listened.

I walked it was about 9pm the waiter was really professional and polite. She asked if I wanted drinks and what type of water I said tap fine. She came back and looted my glass. I placed my order.

I ordered garlic bread 🥖 so tasteless burnt. I knew it was a start to a average meal!

I ordered the ricotta and spinach tortellini. I asked for a creamy mushroom sauce as I can’t have tomatoes, it must have been packet past because they where small not fresh and so dry! And chewy!

I asked what desert he recommended he said tiramisu. Do I ordered it! When he brought it over I was waiting for that lovely coffee smell! How ever I had this sour smell! So I put my head close to smell again then I could smell a little coffee but I could smell something sour. I tried the so called fresh cream! It was off sour it was off! Yuk!!!
I still tried the tiramisu I could taste a lot of alcohol, the bottom was super soggy the middle biscuit was dry just awful! New will I go back again.

I asked the Manager where he was from he said we are all Pakistani! I think they really need to make it a Indian shop and leave the Italian food for the Italians this was so so bad!!!
Went to Antico Caffe for birthday celebration with friends. Two girls are gluten free and one is coeliac, queried what we could get as we needed it to be gluten free. Got told we could have any of the pasta dishes but they would change the pasta to penne as it was the only gluten free pasta, which was fine. When food came out as my friend who is coeliac was eating suddenly found spaghetti under the penne pasta. We were all very worried she would end up ill in hospital and when we queried it the gentlemen accused us of bringing in cooked spaghetti and placing it under the penne pasta. She got offered a gluten free pizza in replacement which my friend accepted at first but then was too worried to eat it. Another girl also found a hair in her dipping sauce, once again no apology and it took them over 10 mins to bring another dipping sauce out. On paying for the bill my friend who is coeliac was gonna be charged for a meal she never ate and the gentlemen and chef still insisted they didn’t put the spaghetti under the pasta and no apology was given at all! We will never be returning here and if you have any allergies I wouldn’t recommend going here as they don’t take it serious!! Very unprofessional and no customer service skills at all!

Awesome pizza just tried everyone should come and try their pizza at least once. Very humble customer service and loved to see all those cricketers also came and tried in here.

Returned to try Antico again, have been half a dozen times over as many years. In the past have had some reasonable meals and 1 real disaster.
It is fairly quiet, lacks real ambience but the service is prompt. But the food was good. Has a special of Capretto on a creamy mash with white wine. Was delicious. Really worth trying again.
I won't leave it so long next time.

Not sure why is hard to get spaghetti aglio olio in perth, but this restaurant serves it! The taste is on point and service is good as well!
Flowering Tree
I've been a regular lunch diner here for the past couple years. The pasta and service are always excellent. They also have a decent wine list and tasty desserts. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The family and I have been to this restaurant many times over the last couple of years ,eg on Mothers Day ,an 18th birthday celebration and various other family get togethers..The staff are always friendly , helpful and very professional .Nothing is ever too much trouble ...
The menu is extensive and despite the varied ages of the extended family , there is always a flavourful , reasonably priced option available .The wine list is good and the kids always enjoy the Woodfired pizza and pasta options (kids menu is generous and varied )...Portions are generous and our resident vegans /vegetarians found their tastes easily accommodated ...
In summary a good family restaurant. It plenty on offer for couples and small groups ...Was delighted to receive a complimentary 20% off card for our next visit ...We will be back !
Visiting from Melbourne and had a really enjoyable dinner. Extensive wine menu and huge glasses of wine - probably close to two glasses in one. Garlic bread was flavoursome and a huge serving size for only $7. We had the spaghetti aglio ($17), which had garlic, olive oil, chilli, parsley and parmasen cheese. It was beautiful and fresh, big serving size and tasty. And we had the spaghetti bolognese ($20), which was full of flavour and also a big serving size. Good value for money. Dated decor that isn't too exciting, but the restaurant is clean and well presented. They have a big wood fire pizza oven that you can see cooking the pizzas. Waitress was lovely and attentive, and service was perfectly timed.

Ordered a pizza for take away. Looked like an absolute mess, you could just tell the chef/ cook didn't give a sh*t about the food. No love put into it. Never going back.
Edward Brine
Ordered reef and beef from these guys. Got two prawns. Complained and they told me they dont care. Awful service. Avoid at all cost. Guy said this was what they were serving for years.
Food 2 Run
Ate at this restaurant and they catered for 40 for a work conference and the food just kept coming out Italian sausage, pizza, meatballs and had the chicken for main and was very good...very well priced

We had a wonderful evening last night with our family, celebrating our Sons Graduation. We had great food, fantastic service and the whole evening was fantastic. We had searched on-line for a family friendly Italian restaurant and found Antico Caffe, and as it caters for children and has a vast range of Italian cuisine is also licensed we thought it ticked all the boxes, The food was delicious, and the service from our waiter Guavani was outstanding, thank you very much for a great evening. Been here several times, at lunch time and in the evenings. It can get pretty busy at weekends, not surprising given the great food.

Never been disappointed. Great food, bursting with flavour, very friendly staff. Top rate starters, great mains, good wine list.
Bjorn Vandenberghe
Great service and food! Being a regular on the weekdays special (any 2 pizzas for $29) take away we always go for the prawn pizza and vary on the 2nd one. The pizzas are amazing, the chef has a lot of experience and when they say 15 minutes it is not 16, your pizzas will be ready on time! When we dine in we usually share a pizza and try a different pasta which is equally delicious, no matter which one it is.
Waiters/waitresses are very efficient, always attentive to your needs, permanently smiling and good looking…
Wine list has something for every wallet and every taste.
See you soon for another great dining experience.

We went to Antico cafe for a ladies dinner. The service was reasonable (it was a little busy) at first however then our meals came out and one of the ladies noticed a hair in her Salmon. We let the waiter know discretely, she spoke to the chef and then came and let us know they would make a fresh meal ASAP. One of the ladies had previously had a bad experience with sending a meal back so she put a piece of napkin under a part of the meal.

10 minutes later the "fresh" meal came out... Low and behold the piece of napkin was still there! They had also topped the salad with extra sauce in an attempt to make it look different. We didn't complain again during the meal as we didn't want to cause a scene however when we paid we did let them know. The manager advised us that the chef just changed the plate so that's why the napkin was still there - The issue was not the plate, it was the hair in the salmon!

In the end we were not annoyed about the hair, we understand these things happen! It was the lie that promised a new meal and the response when we let the manager know where he brushed us off without even an apology.

It was a real shame because the other meals were lovely but the staff clearly do not have any customer service skills or know how to keep their customers happy. We will not be returning to Antico Cafe.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Ducked into Antico to avoid the rain today and decided to grab some breakfast while we were at it. Being an Italian restaurant more well know for their pizza and pasta we weren't sure how the brekky would be, but we were very surprised. The breakfast menu is very standard but what we did order was delish. I went for the Salmon, Caper & Red Onion omelette and it was so full of flavour. An ample amount of salmon was served, no stinginess. The capers added a good kick and the onion balanced the entire dish. We did wait quite a while for our food but it was worth it! Yum.

Had a lovely dinner here last Saturday. The bruschetta was tasty (bread slightly over toasted). My Rib Eye was perfectly cooked and delicious with Sicilian sauce. My wife had the spagetti bolagnaise which was good. Service fast and friendly and wine reasonably priced.
Tom
Dont get the chicken

Service was pleasant and very fast, however my chicken (pollo) parmi was the worse I have ever eaten. The chicken was very hard and old, tougher than a well done steak. The knife would hardly cut it.. I left over 1/2 of it...
3 other meals were all OK though.
As people said, a bit pricy also.
MF
All the usual Italian favorites on the menu and tasty specials. The service is good and meals arrive in a timely fashion. The meals are not disappointing and the pizzas are fantastic. A bit pricey for what you get but the restaurant always seems to be open and is consistently good.

Not the best. Went for breakfast. Two of the four of us had cold eggs, we asked for water and it didn't arrive. Ham omelettes were ordinary. Would not go for breakfast again.
Jane
Had to ask for a menu, a drink, to place our orders and then after waiting nearly an hour for our mains and no one would tell us how much longer they'd be we walked out. Really ruined our night and will not return

Brilliant food and service. Pizza, pasta, meat dishes, garlic bread, bruschetta, etc - all great - and fantastic service.

Excellent, efficient, friendly service and great food. I reckon this is the best all-round Italian restaurant in Perth. Considering all aspects from service to quality / variety of food and overall value, this is an excellent restaurant. My wife and I have been several times and always enjoyed the experience and the food. Highly recommended.

Disappointing to say the least!. Meal seemed as if it was prepared by a toddler.. Service was even worst.. Never been to restaurant with such appalling service. Will NOT ever return nor would I recommend this disgraceful place.

Fake Italian. Went There last night, ordered pizza and pasta ravioli. And few entrees. Entrees were a joke, first time i had fetta cheese in Italian restaurant. Pizza was extremely oily and salty, to a point I had to run to the IGA store next door and buy mylanta. I had indigestion the rest of the night. My friend's ravioli looked like factory made and was swimming in gallons of cream. Our third main was a macaroni, well the sauce tasted like Tomatoe paste and water. The wine was good however.
I understand we are in Perth but you can do better than la porchetta.

We visited Antico Caffe on a Saturday night - the service was welcoming and friendly and the good was delicious! The portions were excellent size and very good quality - only downside is it's on the expensive side.

Unhappy perth diner. Went to antico to celebrate Mother's Day as it's one of my favorite places to eat, they were very busy and the food was excellent as always, but I'm sorry to say the service was absolutely awful, not enough staff to serve all the tables, had to constantly ask for everything and you were lucky you weren't wearing your food by the way it was slammed on the tables, the staff looked miserable and obviously didn't want to be there, I won't be hurrying back too soon, suggest you sort your staff out big time!

Me and my son went there last night, was pretty quiet for a Sunday night, but everything was nice food and service as well. I had pizza capriosa and my son had penne vodka, delicious! In the end we tried the typical Italian liquor Sambucca, highly recommended!
The waitress was very helpful and kind,we chatted a bit about Italian wines and it's a shame they have only one type of Italian wine.
I recommend this nice Italian restaurant because food and service well worth a visit!

Buonissimo!. Great atmosphere. Good service. We were there on a very busy Saturday night. We were a table of 17 and all our meals came out quickly an at the same time. Food was yummy. Good hearty Italian cooking. Pizza's were stand outs - wood fired - delish! Good coffee and lovely deserts. Reasonably priced. Only disappointment was the chicken parmigiana and veal cottoletta dishes - they needed a salad and chips on the side not just two crumbed pieces of chicken/veal. Overall a great evening!

Went for a Sunday night dinner, every table was full. Food was spectacular, couldn't fault, but the service....absolutely diabolical! One girl was so rude slamming our food on the table and didn't see her smile once. She did not want to be there. Dessert took it's time to come out so were about to leave when it finally came. Had all different staff members waiting out table, and had to ask for a refill of water three times. Do something about your staff

Great Italian. Really personable owner who was great with the kids. Pizza good & Calamari & lamb shank top notch. Gelato delish. 13yo son paid because we help him do his letterbox delivery every week. Now that's a treat.

Just had dinner at Antico with my girlfriend, very quiet night there, the waiter we had viremico was amazing, so helpful and the food was great, this is my first post on urban spoon, the main reason I posted this was because I seen bad reviews at this place, when I'd just had an amazing meal, didn't think it was right, hope if you done here you have the same experience we did
Lintay8
Staff were not very helpful or friendly. Food was very nice, but the staff need a kick up the bum. Not friendly at all, had to ask for drinks, had to ask for dessert menu, Reach in front of you to get thing off table. Through menus at you.
Get rid of your staff then you will do alot better.
Justin
The worst pizza I have ever had! Ordered the esotica and had one piece of canned pineapple on each slice. Terribly disappointing since the new owners have had the taken over. Have lived in east perth for 4 years and will never order there again!

Great food selection and good value. Took the time to visit this venue after a few years and maybe an ownership change? Our welcome was traditionally Italian and the order for water and wine was taken shortly after being seated.
The menu covers everything Italian including an array of Pizza choices, Pasta, Meat and Fish dishes.
The venue is spacious without tables crammed together and the noise level is relatively low given the tiled floor with the acoustic ceiling taking away most echo. This was most appreciated by my partner who is very deaf in one ear and will walk out of a lot of noisy venues because he cannot hear a conversation! The restaurant tonight was probably just over half full.
For our meal we ordered a small shared entrée of olives (which was an ample appertiser for two) Duck Arancini as a main for him and fish with prawns and salad for me. The food was exceptionally cooked and tasty. We will have no hesitation in returning to this restaurant again in the very near future. Especially after being given a discount card for our return visit.

They must have change the menu, had the seafood fettuccine , it was delicious, the prochuitto pizza was yummy too.., let dons on tiramisu though..

Great Food,Fantastic Service for this not well know place!!!!. My wife and I had our engagement party here with a group of friends and was absolutely a night of joy, good food and great service. There is always a smile to welcome you and an authentic Italian atmosphere with all Italian around you.
We highly recommend to visit this place, authentic wood fire pizza and value for price is well worth. Surely we will be back over and over again. Joe and Joanne Perth

NYE Dinner. Been here few times and service has always been excellent. On NYE, though the restaurant was very busy, service was still great. My steak was cooked perfectly with lovely flavours. My partner's seafood was very fresh and had lovely flavours too. Throughout the whole time, service with endless smile...that's why we always come back!

Bought a spaghetti Bolognese for takeaway and found a piece of plastic wrapping in it at home. Restaurant unwilling to offer me anything more than a replacement after returning there. Some concerns about food quality and customer service at this restaurant.

Mrs. Lovely food and service. Best Italian food I have had in a long time. Highly recommend

Very poor service - poor management. The food was average. However, the service was terrible and it all falls onto the manager! 3 staff on the floor including the manager - who was doing everything and pretty much only let the junior staff serve food/drinks and clear the tables. The manager was doing everything - and didnt even do it well - i was not impressed as it meant that the customers lost out on the service/attention. The manager was welcoming guests, seating them, taking orders, making drinks and settling bills. When we gave our bill to the young italian waiter he had to let the manager know who told him to just leave it on the counter! $250 just sat there while the manager finished making drinks for a table - we waited 10mins for our change.

I had to draw the attention of the staff more than 3 times for drinks, food order, for things that we had ordered but hadnt arrived. service definitely need to improve!
Sweetnesss
I've been to this restaurant 3 times in the past month or so for dinner and it's great! Good, yummy food at a reasonable price, especially the pasta.

Service is good and wait staff happy to talk. Definitely will go back!

Average among Italian restauarants. Went there for dinner and ordered calamari and chips for entree which were quite nice. Also ordered a pizza as it was a woodfired but the pizza base was too thick and the flavors of the pizza couldn't be appreciated. The mains was beef and reef. There was way too much butter sauce it was floating in it. 2 prawns were nice but the steak was ordered as medium rare and came out well done. Another mains ordered was pasta marinara but that was quite disappointing as only 1 out of 5 mussel shells actually had mussels in it.
Matt A Zee
Menu great as always. Drinks flat though, disappointing start.

More atmosphere required. We have eaten at Antico 5 or 6 times over the last few years and have had some great meals and some not so great. I find it hard to believe that some people describe this place as "the worst restaurant ever". Sometimes, I think one's own attitude has as much to do with service as that of the establishment.
My most recent visit was with 2 others in June 2013. We ordered an entree of Bruschetta to start. It was described as having 4 pieces, but it was in fact just two large pieces. It was just passable, but lacked a punch of flavour from garlic/basil. The tomatoes were pretty bland. For mains, one of us had the Tortellini. Wow! Sensational rich, creamy flavours. Fantastic. I know a previous reviewer alleged that Antico was sending out shop-bought pastas. If so, where is the shop? I want more.
The 2 remaining people both had the rib-eye. Happily (and unusually these days) vegetables are all on the plate. Whilst the steaks were not World-beaters, in a town where $50+ steaks are becoming the norm these were nice (but slightly fatty) large cuts. The pepper sauce on one was really nicely balanced. Antico's signature Sicilian dressing on the other was lovely - tangy, herby and not overpowering.
The service on our night was fine. In fact, we have never had the bad service that others mentioned. It is also kid-friendly. The butterfly or car-shaped pizzas have always been a hit with the little ones and on a past visit, the Chef even took two young ones in our party to the oven to show them how the pizza was made.
The one consistent gripe I have is the open, airy atmosphere that lends a food-hall effect, rather than a noisy, happy Mediterranean feel. My suggestion would be for the restaurant to do a deal with the landlord and cover the tiles with a wooden floor!
I will continue to go back.
Toni Ralston
Staff problems. Went to Antico on Sat night. The food was fabulous but the service was non existent. We ended up going somewhere else for coffee & desert due to lack of interest at Antico. A shame when the food was so good.
Maria
Best pizza in Perth. Chicken and braised capretto beautifully cooked. We will definitely be back. Service was very good also.
Vicki Edwards
Lovely service - prompt and friendly. King prawns were very tasty although quite a small serve for a main. I will definitely return :)
Freo Foodie
Freodude. Very disappointed. Used to be good.
This time food was very poor. My wife's Fish of the Day was awful. Overcooked and badly tasted of re-used deep frier oil. The presentation was terrible too, it had the dill sauce squirted in a zigzag pattern all over it. Perhaps to hide it's mediocrity.
My steak was supposed to be Black Angus but was tough, thin and tasteless, like a supermarket budget cut. It was supposed to be on a bed of mash and came out on a few vegetables instead. I had ordered a side of veges as well and had too many.
My son's gnocchi by all accounts was ok.
The prices were way too high for the quality on offer.
Last time we will go there.
Hilary
Great pizza!
Crackyourback
Nice looking restaurant, not many people there on a Saturday night. We had surf and turf, marinara pizza, calamari, and garlic prawns. The calamari was great. The pizza was ok too. The steak was ordered medium rare, which it was in some places. The main issue there was the butter sauce was ordered on the side and acknowledged by the waiter but the food came out covered in it. Also the garlic prawns was ordered as a main size but was tiny as! Definitely not worth 28 bucks. Overall average and overpriced.

Last Minute Decision Turns Out Well. After having attended an event nearby, it was decided that we'd head into the main strip of restaurants in the East Perth area and came across the Antico Caffe.

It was surprisingly quiet for a Thursday night but that wasn't a bad thing as far as we were concerned. The staff were quite attentive and pleasant.

We ordered a couple of pizzas (Castellana and Capricciosa) and the Calzone for our food and between the 4 of us it was quite a decent amount of food. Out of the the 3 options we ordered I have to say that the Castellana was the best choice.

They were ALL wood fired and had that awesome pizza base that's a bit burnt in some places and a bit soggy in others. Some people might not like that about pizzas but personally, if you're going for a hand-made wood fired pizza, having these imperfections is what makes it so awesome.

If I were ever in the area and was in the mood for some pizza I'd definitely go back again. All up, it cost the 4 of us just under $20 each which I thought was pretty reasonable.
Laura
Nice restaurant to eat for lunch with the lunch special deal only 10.5$ for pasta!! Or to spend a nice evening with friends or family
Gmh1985
Not what it was a few years ago. This place use to be our favourite place for woodfired pizza & we use to struggle to get in on a friday night - last time I went, the pizza was awful & the place was empty. The place was sold to some new owners who have completely ruined the place, the pizza from pizza hut wouldve been 10 times better than the crap they are serving up now. Also found the man behind the counter extremely rude. Will never return.
Chippy
AVERAGE. I used to eat here regularly, but as the food and service declined early 2011, I stopped going. Apparently it has changed hands, so when we were looking for somewhere local to work for a celebration lunch for 4 of us with birthdays in the same week, we thought we would give it a go. Only 4 tables of patrons when we got there at 12.30 and we explained we only had an hour so could we just have a main each - we all chose a pasta and it was served within 20 minutes. The waiter was polite and we had no complaints about the service. Portions were a good size but the food was average in taste. It is handy to work so will go again and after seeing the pizza another table ordered, think I might go for that next time.

Great Experience. Been looking for a restaurant to take my family with varied food likes including meat eaters, vegetarian and gluten free. Had our first try 4 weeks ago with friends and had a fantastic meal including the seafood rissotto and vegetarian involtini.
Wondered if we were just luckey so tried it again with other friends. I had the rolled chicken breasts involtini which was great and my wife loved the vegetarian ravioli zafferano.
Took the family next and all 6 meals were demolished. We had garlic bread, took wine and had some soft drink and it came to less than $20/person. Where can you dine out, eat very well and have impeccable friendly service for that price. What a find!!
Cirinka
Nice dinner. Went there for dinner, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, gooood food, reasonable prices....
Food Lover
My regular spot. Been there regularly since last year and we probably have tried quite a few of their options on their menu. But I only have two favourites which I am happy to have when I was there. Though my partner always have different ones. They do get a bit slow on service on a very busy night but I still come back coz the staff and owner are very nice people. The owner is very approachable so he always ask if everything is ok and there has been once when I wasn't happy with the food, I told him and he took note of it and make sure next time it doesn't happened again. They look after you like a friend and not merely a customer..probably coz I am a regular. And I always have same dessert creme caramel..but after endless request finally now they have creme brûlée available and OMG their creme brûlée is to die for lol. Might not be everyones cup of tea but I love it there coz its a relaxing homely atmosphere and great service.
Amy
Food was good - nothing terribly exciting. Garlic bread was just toast. Our waitress was wearing sweat pants (with heels!?). Vegetarian pizza was really nice :)
David
Under new management. This is my favourite local italian eatery. The management changed hands recently and the criticisms of previous previous diners, in my observations, are being addressed. Yes, the service can sometimes still be a little slow but I believe the food makes up for a lot of that. The wood fired pizzas are brilliant, and at around $20 are no more expensive than a certain 'gourmet' pink pizza outlet down the road with no wood oven, no liquor licence and no table service.

Came in for Monday lunch. Table for 8. We were only people in the place for 45 mins. I ordered Saltimbooka de Pollo. It was basically chicken on potatoes lots of garlic and onions. Not very tasty. Maybe a 4/10. I could have cooked this myself at home. And i never cook. Very unlikely I would ever go back. I found prices very expensive for what I got. Overall. Dissatisfied
Giuly
Lovely food. If you want to find the italian atmosphere you are in the right place! The food is amazing and you can choose between pizza, pasta, meat, seafood. The pizza is the best of the city and the price are not so expensive.
The waiters are italian and they love to chat with customers.
So, you have to go in this restaurant "Antico Caffe"
Easily Satisfied
It was fine. We went there as a family of 4. They weren't that busy which made the service very good. Food was great. We will go back

TASTELESS CRAP!!!. I would never recommend this dumpster, the staff where un trained and came on as clueless and annoying , the food wasnt fresh i had the impression it was all pre - made afew days ago , me and my girlfriend left with sore stomachs and felt robbed on the price when presented !!! DONT GO

A piece of italy in perth. I have been at Antico already 4 times last month. Antico is a lovely and quiet place in East Perth where you can enjoy a real Italian dinner. Plenty of choice of pasta, seafood and meat. The pizza is the best of the city! prices are affordable.
Moreover the service is really perfect, the waiters are Italian and enjoy having a chat with customers.
So my suggestion is... go and try! It's worth it!
Jacob Scott
Absolutely terrible! Ordere.... Absolutely terrible!
Ordered the tortellini carbonara as we were staying in an apartment nearby and can honestly say it is the worst food experience I've endured.
The 'creamy' sauce was of the same consistency as water and the portion size for a main ($19.50) would not of satisfied a starving kitten.
Would not ever go back and would advise all against trying it.
Sam
One of the best Italian restaurant t in Perth city
Sarita
One of the best restaurant in East Perth. I have been at Antico Caffe a lots times, always everything was good! The food is almost the same that you can find in Italy, the pizza is wood cooking, fully of stuff and cooked perfect,delicious..All of the staff is frendly and nice.If you'd like spend a night, like at home, in a quite atmosphere this is the right restaurant where go. It's located close to the city center, close to river as well, for who like walking during a sunset or night on that nice area.Don't lose this awesome restaurant!!!

Amazing Food. Foods were served with passion, care and diligence. Perfect balance between taste flavours like wonderful harmony in the food. All the dishes in the menu were attractive. The floor staffs were very warm and friendly. I really enjoy that evening.

Excellent. Had a wonderful dinner... we were a party of 10 including children and the waitstaff could not do enough for us. The meals all came out together and were of a very high standard. We sampled the fantastic pizza's, the specials that were listed and of the main menu. We could not find fault in anything. We would definately be coming back!!!

WORST IN TOWN. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to, period. Do NOT consider this restaurant as the food, service, and atmosphere is shocking to say the least. However, if you enjoy paying $20-$30 a plate for prepackaged supermarket tortellini/ravioli/other pasta then by all means, spend your money at this so called "restaurant". Otherwise, please save your money, or go somewhere else. SHOCKING!

Every time I've been there the service has been very good. The atmosphere is very relaxing at all times. Chris

Very poor service. If you like to sit in a restaurant, be totally ignored and dont mind waiting all night to be served then this is just the place for you.
Would you like a water on arrival? Yes please. 15 minutes later after a reminder a water arrives.
Would you like some bread? Yes please. 30 mins later when almost ready to walk out bread arrives - no butter though as this is the way we serve it with soup. Can I have some butter? Waitress smiles and walks away not to be seen again.
Meal comes out. Do you think I can have some cutlery like a knife to eat my steak with by any chance? Oh you are a difficult customer is the thought that goes through the waitress mind and returns 2 mins later with a steak knife.
As you can guess. Not impressed and never to return.

Shockingly bad. Arrived at 7 PM and got my main meal at 9:45 PM. Disorganised service and fairly ordinary food. Don't bother with them - there are plenty of other Italian style places .

Food was average. Went here with an entertainment book voucher, so wasn't so fussed. Ordered a lemon squash but it was flat hardly any gas in it so it didn't taste right

This is the worst restaurant in Perth. I arrived before 12 and am still waiting for them to take my mains order at 2pm. The next time I come here I will need to get two meals, one for me and one for the guy with a gun to my head. DON'T eat here!

The signs, quite literally, were poor when walking in. A4 printouts of 'specials' trying to attract customers, sticky taped to the windows, looked like the place was desparate to get bums on seats. The service was friendly and prompt, but the food was bland and poorly presented. The best thing about the meal was the wine, and that was because it was BYO. We're not returning and the only thing that is going to save this place is that it's near hotels, where unsuspecting customers will blunder inside hoping for authentic Italian. Unimpressive, avoid.

Valentines. Went here for valentines. FOod was great. very special the way they'd done everything up!

Midweek Pizza. This place has exactly two things going for it. First, it's opposite the Royal Hotel, which IMHO is hugely over-rated but at least it's somewhere handy to go for a pre- or post-dinner beer if you live in or around East Perth. Second, it has a genuine wood-fired oven right out front of the kitchen, so you can actually watch your pizza being assembled and baked. The service is unremarkable, the wine list leans towards the cheap and nasty, and I've never eaten anything here that I couldn't do better myself. But that's really the whole point - this is one of those place you go mid-week when you can't be @rsed to cook.

UPDATE: this place seems to be going downhill since I wrote the above review. I've eaten here twice in the last month and both times were disappointing. New-ish owners perhaps...?

Awful. The food here is really poor quality. It was pretty awful under the previous owners but its worse now. It is mostly stodgy and heavy with thick gooey sauces (out of a bottle or tin probably) and always seems to be overcooked or undercooked. The wine list is a joke and service is very inconsistent.

Just Awful. We had been to this caffe before and it was owned by Italains and the food was always really good, the cafe has new owners and have kept the menu as it was and it hasnt done them justice.
We took mum out for dinner for her birthday, as she likes to cook rather than go out, we convinced her to go out and it went wrong from the moment we walked in.
The service was shocking, it seems that there was no organisation.
We order our drinks a few times ,as we werent getting them.
We found drinks been served from soft drink bottles , i think this says it all.
Our mains finally came out , but they might of not served it as most of the mains werent cooked , esp the fish it was raw.
Anyway now i know not to go back there....

Bring your own wine !!!! They dont have half of the wine on the wine list, the wine offered not even on the list

Average. I haven't been for a while but it was an easy way to please the masses when someone was celebrating at work. There is usually something for everyone and one of us would have an entertainment book voucher. Pasta is okay, nothing sensational but certainly goes down alright. Bit on the pricey side considering the quality of the food. Being a work lunch, never faced any wine issues but being out of stock on three choices? Seems a bit much...

Service is really slow. Read hours. Most of the wines on the menu are not in stock. Starters four pieces of garlic bread was actually two cut in half. Bit of a ramsay kitchen nightmare. Only came cause it was in the entertainment book. Should have read the urban spoon reviews first They got the my wides order wrong, fish instead of pasta. How does one get that wrong

Don't bother. Great location, good service, pity about the food. (And not cheap !)

Avoid like the plague. My girlfriend and I visited Antico briefly last Friday night, being residents of East Perth, we are slowly making our way around the local eateries.

Upon arrival we were greated by a waitperson and promptly seated, possibly the only positive experience of the evening.

Now I have to explain that the restaurant was maybe 1/4 full, so what is to come may amuse some...

We were given the menu and a wine list to look over whilst the waitperson went off to serve other tables. Upon their return, we ordered a bottle of SSB which they soon came back to let us know it was out of stock....okay then, how about the next bottle? Well, that was out of stock too. As you can imagine, our concern was raising. Third time lucky? Yes...but no. The waitperson offered us a taste of the wine which I accepted, however the tasting bottle had been opened previously and based on the stale taste, for quite some time. I requested tasting a fresh bottle and after about 10 minutes wait, a different waitperson came along with a fresh bottle. Putting my lips to the glass I instantly knew something was wrong, the wine was warm, the bottle was warm. When questioned, the waitperson aknowledged that they already knew this so they were prepared to put it in the freezer for a while...if we'd like?

A quick exchange of glances and my partner and I were up and out the door. Never, ever to be seen at Antico again.

Awesome Food, Questionable Service. Antico's Caffe had been a regular favourite for us and a few friends until last Friday!
We arrived at 7 to meet a friend that was already seated at our table, which was helpful as their was no waitstaff to seat us. All 6 of us were seated by 7.15.

We then waited for 45 minutes to be asked for our drink orders. On multiple occasions we waved down staff (which is something I loathe to do!) and were ignored.
Once our drink orders were taken the waiter attempted to leave the table without taking our food order. We had to call him back to order food. Between the 6 of us we ordered 1 entree and 2 main sized pasta dishes, an entree sized risotto, the calamari and a chicken Parmigiana with some garlic bread to share as a group entree.

The garlic bread never arrived. Everything except the Parmigiana arrived approx. 55 minutes after we ordered. We went up to the counter to ask where the Parmigiana was and no one knew anything about it. They brought out some complimentary garlic bread out to make up for not cooking the Parmigiana and then told us it would be out in 10 minutes. 25 minutes later (and well after everyone had finished their meals) the Parmigiana arrived on mashed potato (she had asked for Chips instead).

The food really was lovely and well presented. Unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait!

Basic Italian Food. Visited for dinner with a large group last Friday. Had my staple - fettuccine with prawns. I think it was ok but I have kind of forgotten already what it was like so it mustn't have been fantastic! Also I think it was relatively small for the price because I wasn't full after it. Also had to wave down a waitress to ask for cracked pepper and parmesan (I like to be asked if I want it). Other than that the service was pretty good if a bit over the top at first - a few of us had just arrived and they were really hassling us for orders before we had even looked at the menu. Also the parmesan was the crappy granule stuff, I like fresh shaved - don't want much do I?!? :D

...but when it came out it was pretty delicious. I had a pizza with chickem, potato, and bacon which went down a treat. But I should have ordered what the Mister had, chicken stuffed with prawns in a white wine sauce with potatos. Which was "like his three favourite meals combined to make one super me

the waiters were friendly, the service was prompt, the meal took their time coming, the place was awkwardly lit, there wasn't any real ambience,
