Review Imperial Court - Perth

Jonathan Quay
This has always been a great venue for dim sum nearby. Their staples are excellent and very well worth trying - they have the usual assortment of dishes that you must try. The restaurant is spacious and can accomodate many although you will need to book before you come. I’m hearing rumours that this venue will be closing down in a couple of months and if that’s true you definitely should get down here and try it before it closes!!
Lisa Lin
Quality dim sum made by the professional chef. Got some unique items on the menu. Love the banana prawn roll and egg tarts (this is the must try one). The manager is actually quite funny if you get her sense of humour. Also please be polite to the servants. We should be grateful that we can still enjoy the food here. I really enjoy the quick conversation with the lady in the restaurant.

Average for the quality that we have in Perth, so i don't understand the hype. Dim sum here always feels very rushed, and the service is rude. In no hurry to come back
Judi Damon
Went with a group and were told we couldn't order from the menu and had to eat and share what was brought out for us. As I'm vegetarian, I was able to order from the menu. Had pan fried vegetable rolls which were just average. The mango pudding was delicious. The only choice for the others was prawn and pork. One of the ladies doesn't eat either, so had to go hungry. Also don't accept card unless you spend over $30.
Tina L
been there for dim sum several times always busy, booking in advance the red flour roll is amazing, my favorite dim sum in the town the rest is average, some items are too light to me
Bret Treasure
Food here was wonderful and it's a very comfortable alternative to crowded Northbridge options. Radish cakes were a highlight but there were many superb dishes. Shanghai dumplings terrific. Highly recommended.

Will give zero star if I can. Came to restaurant on Sunday, waited at the door for 5 minutes (waitress saw us but no one come to us) and was told we couldnt be served because they were under staffed..... ??? The lady was shouting out 10 metres away from us: we can't serve you!! And the restaurant was half empty when she said that. Not recommended at all. NOT SURE ABOUT THE FOOD BUT The attitude was BAD. There was nowhere on their website or Google map said they need booking for lunch. We drove 20 minutes for nothing. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

Wow, the other reviews about the boss lady being rude and unhospitable weren't wrong. So glad her business is doing so well she can turn off customers like myself from ever going back again and still survive. If you don't mind being treated like an inconvenience and really craving for some dimsum, feel free to brave this harpy lady to get your dumpling fix, their food ain't bad.
Food_Glorious_Food
Really enjoy our regular weekend dim sum visits here. Prawn dumplings, squid tentacles, rice flour rolls (particularly the red roll) and Asian greens are all delicious and very good quality. The restaurant itself is always quite busy (prepare to wait), the interior is lovely and clean and the wait staff are generally very good. Have also been here for dinner several times and the food was all exceptional (honey and black pepper fillet steak is particularly delicious as are the chilli salt prawns). Definitely a higher end Asian restaurant so expect to pay a premium - but the food quality is there so in my opinion it’s well worth it.

I was expecting a lot more from this place as I had heard it was good. But we just kept getting offered the same old standard dishes. Wen we ordered things direct from the staff only have the things came. So many better places to get your dumpling fix from
Ric Stocco
First time here. Friendly and fast service. We ordered duck and it was succulent and juice. It tasted so fresh.

Went to imperial court tonight- thought it would be fun to drop in on our way home and treat ourselves to fried ice cream with my partner seeing as we had been eating all day with family and friends. We noticed straight away that the wait staff in black weren’t going to serve us... we waited another 5 minutes and finally the ‘owner women’ came and sat down at our table (a tad strange?) and asked us what we wanted to order. When we told her we’re just seeking dessert her attitude towards us immediately changed and said that it’s a minimum of $30 per person as it costs her more to make the fried ice cream (btw they’re $10.50 ea). She mentioned to us that seeing as we are regular customers she would only do it for us if we ordered a main dish as well. I tried to explain to her that we’d been eating all day and as we are locals could we not just treat ourselves? Sadly she gave us a belligerent no and so we awkwardly left feeling really disappointed and uncomfortable. I’m honestly bemused that she turned down customers when the restaurant was half empty at 7:30pm?! Since when is it ever good business to turn down customers? We wont be coming back here and I’ll be telling my friends and family who regularly come here for yum cha to not bother either.
Ez Clap
Got served cold salt and pepper squid for yum cha on multiple occasions that we were made to pay for. Dinner has a minimum charge of $30 per person so if you’re looking to eat dessert or a small meal by yourself or in a couple then it’s made clear that they don’t want your business. The owner comes across as quite pompous, rude and has a superiority complex. A nice friendly smile would go a long way when being served.
Kimmy Cheung
Nice environment, nice and friendly staff. I know you are very popular and have a lot of regular patrons, however you shouldn’t let them cut the line of a new customer. Will never be back only if I want to pay for despise. BTW: food too salty.
Jeffrey Chen
RUDE RUDE RUDE Terrible customer service - I suggest to take you business elsewhere. Customers don't deserve to be talked down to in a rude and condescending manner no matter what! I don't pay you money for bad service!
April Lee
Why go there ?? There are plenty of dim sum restaurants in North bridge , Morley , Belmont, Cockburn Carousel <br/>. I will not go back there for the bad service.
Chung & Sarah
Carousel isn’t my favorite shopping location, so I rarely come to this area to have meals. One day, I needed to buy something which only carousel shopping center had this particular product. After finished my shopping, I went into this restaurant to have dimsim. Surprisingly, the foods in here were warm and delicious. I was very happy that I found this restaurant and definitely I will come back

Went to Imperial Court for DimSum with my little 6 months old baby girl and another two mums plus their babies (7 months and 11 months old). Everything was fine until the manager (or owner lady) came right up to the 11 m/o baby’s face and “shush” her while my girlfriend was holding her. Apparently the baby was too noisy and she has got complaints from other customers? <br/>I’m not sure if it’s against the nature’s law for a baby to babble or fuss? She wasn’t screaming on top of her lungs but just doing her baby talk excitedly.<br/>The manager suggested my friend could have taken the baby out somewhere instead of letting her “noises” bother other customers. Oh and she too suggested that my girlfriend not to return to the restaurant again in the future when being confronted. <br/>Who do you think you are to came right up to someone’s baby instead of communicating with the parent? This is plain rude and obviously not a baby/child friendly place unless your baby/child doesn’t fuss or make any noises.<br/>This is the first and the last time I’ll dine at this place.
TheKrackedPot
Definitely one of Perth’s top yum cha spots! <br/><br/>My 11 yr old daughter begs to go just for the Shanghai dumplings served in a fish broth - she says if she could only eat one dish the rest of her life this would be it - high praise indeed!<br/><br/>The prawn dumplings have that lovely prawn crunch while tender and juicy.<br/><br/>The owner of the business is always at the helm making certain the ship sails straight and she is friendly and engaging.<br/><br/>Be prepared for a wait on Sunday’s.<br/><br/>My only complaint is that there is no duck so I’m forced to yum cha elsewhere on occasions.
Eunice
Great experience dining in here for dim sum! Been here a few times. The manager who organises tables might seemed abrupt but she is actually quite friendly (and hilarious too!). I would recommend the usual dim sum e.g har gao (steamed prawn dumplings), salted egg yolk custard bao, steamed cheong fun with bbq pork, salt and pepper fried squid, and their egg tarts are pretty amazing. Recently I had this lovely durian mochi and I instantly fell in love with it, I wish I could have more!
Kathy De Gaye
Hong Kong cuisine at its finest in Perth. Amazing service by the staff and personalised menu from owner/manager. Could not do enough for us food was gobsmacking amazing having each dish explained enhanced the dining experience . We have traveled far and wide dining and have now realised the best is on our own doorstep. Thankyou Imperial Court for an entertaining and unique dining experience. We'll be back!
Jimin
The food was alright. They charged $1 per chilli oil/siracha. Felt a bit scammed by that. Maybe because I have never been to any dim sum places that charges for their freaking sauce?! Dim sum here is more expensive as compared to other Dim sum places. Food was average.
Kevy K
Still hasn’t changed. <br/><br/>Open at 11am on the weekends, regulars known they really open earlier. Even if there are tables readily available, the maitre’d will not seat your group until everyone arrives - to ensure “turnover”. <br/><br/>The manager here is an institution and her reputation well known amongst Asian circles. <br/><br/>On my latest visit, it seemed quieter than it used to be. Perhaps, more discerning dim sum foodies are preferring the Roe Street and other Northbridge restaurants? However, Parking tends to be free and easily available on the street <br/><br/>Dim Sum here is average. Prawns are of course frozen. Especially in the rice flour rolls, they have that unappetising firm tasteless collagenous texture. Chive dumplings are acceptable. As are most of the other dumplings. Chicken feet could be more flavoursome but otherwise ok. Actually, that describes most of the food. Ok. Bland but ok. Most items taste similar. <br/><br/>The trolleys do tend to come around with the same baskets. So if you want something else, don’t forget you can order directly from the menu. Noting of course the rather pricey dim sum pricing. For Perth, Imperial Court is actually one of the better dimsum houses. <br/><br/>A credit surcharge and $30 minimum apply.
ClydeyP
Awesome dim sum lunch that always hits the spot.<br/>The venue is a medium sized space compared to others we have been to in perth. The food always tastes fresh and delicious. My fave from here is the shanghai dumpling (served in the soup rather than inside the dumpling). Service is great, we've had no issues over the last 3 visits.<br/>A little bit pricey overall but you cam definitely taste the difference from other similar restaurants SOR.
Jon
Great food fresh from the kitchen arriving piping hot So tasty<br/>Ignore the comments about shouty lady and just watch and enjoy who she is and how she operates, she is actually quiet funny<br/>I would go back to this restaurant in a heart beat
Himanth Prathap
We went here specifically for the yum cha and we were not disappointed! Service was prompt and friendly enough to help us demolish all those dumplings! Loved the pork buns, prawn and chives dumpling and the mango pudding. The manager was very friendly to our group and it's unfortunate that the other reviewers on Zomato caught her on a bad day. I'll be going again without a doubt.
Rachel Goh
good food and very quick in serving. Dimsum is great here. Just dislike the queue. Service is not too bad here but could be better. personal favourite is the sesame ball. love em!
Jenny Tsen
We were told there is a minimum spend of $30/person. Food is good. Nice ambience. Would come back again. To spend more money on good food lol.
Not A Princess Bebe
Love love love the dim sum here, especially the egg tart and rice rolls. Surprisingly the roast duck is one of the nicest in town too! Even though some might find the owner/manager to be intimidating, I find her quite the typical person from Hong Kong, straightforward and honest. She can be quite fun when you get to know her.
Joni Wijaya
Nice foods but super poor service. We are being yelled at like a dog. Perth has many good dim sum restaurants that provide good service as well as good food. So this one is not recommended.
Tim Smith
Whilst the food is good, the lady manager is rude and very abrupt. They also over charge so please check your bills, I would personally avoid this place and I will never go back.
Paul Hanrahan
I've been here twice in the past few months. The dim sum is pretty reasonable. The awful lady at the front desk however is hideous. The first time we went we had to wait for a table, so I asked if I could have a beer while we were waiting and I was shot down soup nazi style. Took my son today and once again the dim sum was alright however I also ordered a serve of vegetarian rice noodles with egg. It was average and they charged me $18! I think I'll give this place a miss from here on!
Rob
Food ok quality. Prices expensive for dim sum. Service was well below par, no greetings or smiles from service staff.......and ......if you want extra chilli oil they charge - rather unheard of for a dim sum restaurant.<br/>Wouldn't go again.
Lady Laksa
My favourite local dim sum.<br/>Pluses: free parking, the dim sum comes to your table very quickly (no waiting around - you can have a table full of food 5 min after seating) and the egg tarts are deliciously wobbly and flaky. The waitstaff are pretty attentive, something fairly unusual in Northbridge. Standard dim sum dishes are done well.<br/>Negs: the manager dragon lady has attitude, sometimes long waits at peak times (like everywhere else) and stay away from the xiao long bao - they serve it in a soup?!?
Alison
Went there for dinner on a Saturday night and the restaurant was so empty. The owner was so rude!! Will never come back again. Very pricey as well.
Viv
Our experience at this place was an absolute NIGHTMARE. What's with the 'lady boss' and her extreme temper? After our first visit (also with a horrible service), we decided to give this place a second chance only to realise that their customer service has not changed one bit. The 'lady boss' was bad-mannered and the waitress who served us was rude. Is this how IMPERIAL COURT (pfft, what a name) should be? With disrespectful and insensitive customer service? So, eventually we all left without ordering and swear to never visit this dreadful place ever again. Guys, don't even bother, spend your hard earned money elsewhere that would at least treat you as a human being.

It was a sunny and nice morning... Just feel good to have some dim sum in Imperial Court with my family. But the whole morning was devastated by the bad treatment we had from the floor staff and worst of all the lousy and nasty lady floor manager. Their services and approaches were really bad and unprofessional. I was complaining to the lady manager about one of her floor staff unfriendly approach and she simply got offended. SO MUCH SO THAT SHE TOLD ME TO LEAVE IF NOT HAPPY. What a funny attitude she has to become a manager. The food may be good for this restaurant but if the services from the floor are all bad, it will ruin the whole business in no time. Just wonder how the investors or of bosses of this "esteem restaurant" could hire this kind of floor manager to be serving the customers. I really hope the management will do something about it. Sigh...with an angry and freaking disappointed mood, we left the restaurant and will never ever go back to this place anymore as there are so many good ones else where.

We've had terrible service from this place every single time we've been. The boss of the restaurant is forever rubbing shoulders with high-rollers and neglecting the rest of the customers. The food is overpriced, and the last time we went, my colleague choked on a piece of metal found in the carrot cake. Although they waived only the price of the carrot cake and the dessert, they didn't seem very apologetic about it. Definitely will not be going back anytime soon.

So far one of the best Dim Sum places I've been to in Perth. The egg tarts are my absolute favs where the aroma is beyond pleasant, with the tart crust baked to pretty much crisp perfection. The har gao and Siew mai too were made really well and not soggy like the ones I tried in other restaurants. Defs recommend this place to both Asians and non-Asians
Troy Corps
Ummmm what's with the prices??? $11.80 for pork and prawn dim sum for 4 pieces, $5.80 @ Emma's in East Victoria Park and @ Emma's you don't get told Dim Sum is only lunch time by a waitress with a stupid look on her face, This is why Emma's has the number 1 ranking in Perth for Dim sum and it's why we are driving there now
Seb So Crab
The food has been brought down to a huge pile of crap. The fried squid was soggy, the har gao wasnt even warm, and was hard. My favourite dish there, lin yong pao was tepid due to the hardened custard. Even the price rose slightly. The portions was slightly bigger, but totally unjustified. The owner was rude and unapologetic, and told us to eat elsewhere when we complained. Never coming back here again.<br/><br/>
Truth Be Told Australia
Really good yum Cha . Service was excellent, decor fresh and clean, food was good. Soft shell grab was tender , and wontons crispy . Fried rice was fresh and tasty . Squid not that good .. Owner seemed to be a bit too commanding, need to bring it down a level .
Wintersolstice
Yummy yummy food. Always ridiculously packed but the clean and bright interior makes it much more comfortable to dine there. Yes, staff can be very emotionless and struggle a little in terms of language but you could almost say that it's the norm in most dim sum establishments (though not a good enough excuse to conform). The Manager gets a bad review here and I totally get it, but unfortunately that is just her persona. It appears she runs a strict and efficient show, so as long as there are long waiting lines outside the restaurant, she probably has no incentive to be courteous and polite. I just don't take it personally.
PerthfectBreakfast
Probably the best dim sum in Perth in my opinion.... Although I am confident, hands down the bestest, flakiest egg tarts in Perth  so make sure you save room for those! Service is meh. Typical hectic dim sum "service." <br/><br/>I would like to come back and try their dinner menu though.
Karawara2009
The lady boss had really bad customer service and was very rude to me when i went to there. If you want good yum cha, there are better places to go. After waiting for so long to get a table, found that the food was not that great. Wasted my time and money. I will not go there again!
Sharon Khor
Absolutely right. The food is nice but what a shame the lady boss is quite arrogant n rude to customer. Customer service is lacking.. <br/><br/>Never go back again -.-<br/><br/>Can any one please update me if the arrogant manager resigned? I will definitely go back again if she is not there.
BREAKFASTforever
Do not be put off by the negative reviews - give this place a chance and you will not be disappointed. The dim sum IS one of the best in Perth and is very consistent with quality. Definitely beats the other dim sum places south of the river. <br/><br/>We went early today just after 11 and it was already busy but we only had to wait 5 minutes. Ordered dumplings, char siew bao, porridge, chee cheong fun, lo mai gai, and desserts (lao sa bao and egg tarts). Everything was tasty and hot, and the lao sa bao (salted egg yolk custard bun) is to die for - oozy, sweet custard and soft fluffy bun. <br/><br/>The service is 'you get what you give'. If you are nice you will receive nice service. Say 'good morning' and you will get a cheery 'good morning' back. It is common that traditional dim sum restaurants will have a lady boss running the show. She may seem fierce or abrupt but do not take her sense of humour so personally and have a laugh with her then your experience will be enjoyable every time. It might be a culture shock to some but this is just the typical Cantonese lady boss way! <br/><br/>So some final tips: go early, try dishes you haven't tried before (like porridge!) and order Chinese tea to wash it down.
Rhirhilovesfood
Terrible service by some staff... By god, one in particular was extremely rude to us when we just gently inquired about the sodas we ordered! other staff seemed to be OK a bit of a language barrier but that's alright. Food was...... ok.
CAFELOVER101
Must be the tastiest dim sum place and my favourite one too, though there are some areas that need some work. For example service is efficient but not very welcoming or kind (language barrier is a problem too) The boss is very intimidating and sometimes cold and rude. It is a very busy place and you often have to wait for long periods of time, but the food is worth it. 4/5
Mal
My whole experience was a nightmare, NEVER AGAIN. The food was very average with the fried squid being exceptional oily. The prawn dumplings tasted rubbery and egg noodles were burnt and dry. The pork Buns and Sui Mai were ok. That was just a small part of my eating experience, the best bit is when I go to pay. So I'm up at the counter waiting to be served by this woman who also turns out to be the owner. She says $88.80 to me and I say " that’s not my bill, I have mine in my hand" It was a gentlemen's next to me. She recalculates and says to him $70??? .. So I speak up and say "why you say $88.80 to me when you think its my bill and then charge him $70 when you realise it's not mine" she YELLS her response at me and screams " I can give discount, my business not yours, you no like don't come back" she then snatches my bill out of my hand and calculates $89.20. This is by the way for 2 people. I pay the bill demand a receipt and took the invoice they right down all the marks for the food, to her objections but walked out anyway. Get home add it all up comes to $45.70, there is still 3 bottles of coke and the fried noodle to be added as its written down the bottom in Chinese. So she has charged us $43.50 for 3 x 200ml bottles of soft drink and a burnt plate of fried egg noodle.
Food Lover
Love this dim sum place!! Definitely my favourite dim sum place! I don't love the interior, but the food makes up for it. The owner is so friendly and The food comes out quick.
Anna K
Absolutely APPALLING service! Was OVERCHARGED and then YELLED at by the manager when we confronted her about it! What the?? Food was mediocre at best. Never coming back and am warning any other dim sum enthusiasts about this place.
Lance Carl Yapp An
Worst yumcha experience ever! In fact, worst dining experience ever. Please avoid at all cost unless you want to be treated badly by staffs (especially the extremely rude ladyboss) who hate their job so much! Nothing special with the food really, you can get better choices and services in other places in Perth. We confronted the ladyboss for her poor attitude very politely without using any provoking words, in return she yelled at us to not to return anymore. This is absolutely shocking and downright inappropriate. No matter what you could never say such thing to your customers under any circumstances. #howtorunabusiness101. Will never return to this low-level restaurant anymore! #珀斯最糟糕餐馆

Food is great but the service is so bad!!! The manager is so rude and the other staff didn't seem as attentive and prompt to our response. We obviously wanted to order more food and have been trying to gain the attention of the staff but they just kept ignoring us. They didn't even stack away our piling dishes. I noticed the table next to us also had dishes piling up really tall that needed to be cleared away. Chilli oil also costs an extra 50 cents if your ask for it the third time. Overall it was an okay experience.
Bomberman
Dimsum is yum but having to pay 50cents for chilli oil (1/3 full) in a dimsum restaurant really bothers me. When paying, the ladyboss will look pissed if you don't order much.
Hippo309
Agree, that the dim sum is yum yum, except that the porridge was absolutely tasteless! Also agree that the manageress' service is... Can't find any tactful words to describe it, so best for you to read about it from other reviews. But then again, go for the food, and ignore that woman, you'll be fine.
Angela Sun
Was a good dim sum experience, went there before 10:30 and queued up before it was opened. food was nice. Plenty on street parking which was convenient.
LittleGirlBigFood
Really good satay can be sampled here. My fave Chinese restaurant around south Perth. I'm Fan :).
Zoe
Worst service that I have ever experienced. The lady manager was very rude to us. No respects for the customers. Whatsoever. Customers should never be treated like that. Will never go back again
Sheryl Frame
Love the food! Manageress Phyllis knows her clientele and always serves up exactly what we love. She has a rather abrupt manner but certainly looks after her regulars and this remains my favourite Chinese Restaurant !
B & M
Best Dim Sum in town but Worst hospitality in this industry, especially the lady manageress and some floor staff not very friendly ( mother like son). It's location is not too bad at least.
Chris
This is the first "reasonably" priced Chinese I've had in Perth that was half decent.<br/>Szechuan beef was very tasty. My wife enjoyed the duck. <br/>The service was a little average, but that's not unusual. <br/>I'm normally a Thai food fan but I will be back here when I get that Chinese feeling.
Bec Pollard
Very bad <br/>1 you cant order take away over the phone<br/>2 the menu online is not updated add an extra $10-$15 on to the order and the satff know it.<br/>3 very rude lady at font conter<br/>4 also add 10% if you want take away <br/>5 extra 1 dollars to use eftpos <br/>6 average food defenatly had better
Elena
Foods decent but always check your bill every time before you go up to the counter to pay. Been here several times and the owner (Phyllis) is known to secretly add in a few dim sum plates you never ate...doesn't have to be on paper but when she adds it up it will be at least a good $10-$20 extra over charged. Solid.
Kudokun
One of our to-go place for dimsum in Como. The place is big so able to cater large group of people without long waiting time. However the service was really really really appalling. 1) I have to order at least 3 times until I got my water refilled. 2) The staff (most of them except for 1 or 2) are actually quite fierce – no smile – like they are unhappy you know.<br/><br/>Service aside, to be fair, food is great – for the dimsum I can’t really say it’s worse or better compared to other dimsum. Bonus point for putting ice in the tap water (quite rare for Chinese restaurant).
Food Explorer
The lady manager/owner of this restaurant got the worst attitude in the business. She became very rude, impatience and arrogant when our group of 6 people questioned our bills.....turn out she overcharged us by $23 for 4 dimsum plates we never had!!. She refunded the money and no apology whatsoever. When i told my friends, he said this is not the first time it happened.
Shani Wong
I would say, the food is good. However the service of the main boss-lady (short lady with spikey hair) was the worst service I have received in Perth EVER. It was a 40C out there, people were standing in the restaurant. She told everyone standing at the entrance to get out, because we were "blocking her view". Some asked her how long the waiting time, she replied,"I have no idea, don't ask me, if you cannot wait, go elsewhere.". Her manners were terrible. But the food is good otherwise, if you can deal with her.
Thirdwill
One of our go to for weekend yum cha. Food is always fresh and delicious. The egg tarts here awesome. Only problem is it gets busy so there is always a wait on weekends and service gets stretched. But we will happily come here again.
Sharon Lim
Brought my mom here for dim sum and she reckon is the best dim sum in Perth! Waitstaff are very attentive and polite, love the giant deep fried wonton, would go back and try their dinner next time
RKF
Very rude owner. Was trying to have new year yumcha with family and all of us got there except two adults and an infant, who were minutes away. We asked if we could be seated (all tables were empty except 3 or 4) but we were told we can't be seated until the whole party is there. Told the lady that we will start ordering but she ignored and insisted all party need to be there. We spoke amongst ourselves what rule is this and the lady owner (spikey hair) overheard us and mumbled loudly that this is the way it is. At this point she was also seating two other late comers to a table with a party that already started eating.<br/><br/>By this time our party of 12 have arrived and we made a phone call to Golden Palace in Northbridge and decided to walk out and drove to town and had a much pleasant and friendly meal and service.<br/><br/>Major fail Imperial Court. -10 for the lady owner who needs to be taught manners.
Melanie Denby
Really good choice of Dim Sum. We had 11 select dishes and all were hot and delicious. <br/>Service was good but hard at times to get attention of waiters as we were in a part of the restaurant tucked away. Manager friendly but brusk at times.
Inexology
Imperial Court is probably one of my favourites place to go for a morning dim sum due to the friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the premise and fresh food that they offer. For the weekend, Hubby and I always arrive there around 5-10 minutes after their opening hours to avoid the queue. Parking is not a problem as there are a lot of free street parking available nearby the Imperial Court. <br/><br/>The one dish that I always order was the Shanghai dumplings served in a bowl of soup. The soup has a bit of gingery hint to it which add a fresh taste to the dumplings. Another one that I can't miss will be the plump saucy phoenix claws / chicken feet marinated with black soy beans, a must try for those who are looking for a bit of dim sum adventure.

Not a good experience.<br/><br/>Dim Sum Dine in for 4 today at 12.15pm.<br/><br/>Food was ok, i give it 3 out of 5.<br/><br/>However the attitude of the stuff the lady in charge (the one with short spiky hair) let down the whole experience.<br/><br/>We ordered Chinese tea when we got in, tea never arrived in 5 minutes, until we asked again. <br/><br/>Ordered BBQ Pork Rice Flour Roll, order was not served in the next 10 minutes. So I double check with the lady pushing the steam food trolley. She confirmed the order. However this was never served to us, either the lady or the kitchen has forgotten about it. I never reminded them the second time.<br/><br/>We order 2 serves of Egg Tarts as our final dish, Egg Tarts were not served in the next 5-10 minutes, during this 5-10 mins, there were 2 waiter come and asked to clear our table. By then our table looked pretty empty, because all the plates have been cleared while we were still waiting. Finally Egg Tarts comes after I reminded the Waiter (with the tiny pony tail on top of his head). However 2 minutes after the Egg Tarts arrived and one of my friend still eating, the Waiter come and asked "have you finished??" I told him that my friend is obviously still eating.<br/><br/>We finished up pretty quickly, (we started eating at around 12:15pm and finished around 1:10pm) and gone up to the counter to pay our bill. The Lady in charge (yes, the one with short and spiky hair) was mumbling about why we have been occupying the table for so long (in Cantonese, maybe she thought no one would understand what she was saying). To me, this is very very rude and makes me think they DO NOT deserve anyone come in their door and give them business AT ALL.<br/><br/>In General - BAD EXPERIENCE, WILL NOT COME BACK.

Friday November 27 Dinner<br/><br/>Love the clean feel of the restaurant <br/>Love the constant service provided .. Tea top ups etc <br/>Love the menus being bilingual <br/>Love the easy parking around the area<br/><br/>Loathe the prices <br/><br/>Only tried a few dishes, yet to have yum Cha. Nice food but not for the prices.

Yuhuii...found another nice dim sum place...never been to this place before. This place is hiding from the main road.<br/>My friend told me this place used to be in the Northbridge..<br/>Their menu is a bit different then other dim sum place....well nice to try something different

I write without prejudice.<br/><br/>We asked for takeaway containers when we paid.<br/><br/>Sat for 5 mins and the boss still didn't bring it...well I guess tat was alrite...so I asked one of the waiter...and again was not forthcoming after another 5mins...so I was a bit frustrated and told the passing by waitress..its the 3rd time I'm asking...the boss happened to overhear my comments and said something unpleasant ...along the lines...I remembered and was getting to it....hello...I had to not only wait more than 10mins, asked 3 times  but get attitude..... Hmmmmm<br/><br/>WHY PAY FOR ATTITUDE...ALOT OF OTHER DIMSUM PLACES AVAIL WITHOUT IT

I've heard mixed reviews about this place prior to going.<br/><br/>I went at 1030 to find the restaurant half full, but wasn't allowed a table for 5 until everyone arrived. <br/><br/>The trolleys of food quickly descended once we got our tables. I was impressed with the char siew rolls and prawn dumplings. The other dishes were disappointing considering the pricing.<br/><br/>The chive dumplings were far too salty, bbq pork flour rolls had thick skins, and the shanghai dumplings were the worst I've ever had. They were served in bowls of 4 in soup, which was different but acceptable. However the meat was mushy in texture and had a foul smell to it.<br/><br/>Overall, this place is average but given this place is over priced I would rather visit any other dim sum place at standard reasonable pricing.
Lily Liew
Nothing to complain about in regards to food, great selection that includes different dishes not commonly served at other dim sum places but I can definitely understand people's dislike to the running/management here. Phyllis can come off as harsh/rude at times in order to be efficient which I believe in Western dining culture doesn't always work very well.
CiderCraze
Always have mixed feelings for this place, absolutely love the dishes they serve but the service is a bit funny. If you catch them on a good day then yay for you! <br/>There's once we went during lunch break and ordered a bunch of dimsum, egg tarts came first and the manager took them away from us and said "it's not dessert time yet! I'll give them to you when you are almost done" cracked me up. <br/>I find it rude in an amusing way

We had the chance to meet friends at the Imperial Court last Friday  It is probably our most preferred Chinese cuisine in Perth and we were not disappointed.  The <br/>flavours of our chosen dishes and the attention to our needs by the staff was to the high standards we have come to expect.<br/><br/>I could easily give the IC a 5 rating but then there is nowhere to go if things get better (if possible).  The servings are generous and the food is always fresh.<br/><br/>Phylis is a delightful personality.<br/><br/>Trevor Dickinson

The dim sim is good, one of the best in Perth so far!   Unfortunately, the lady (manager, NO soup for you!!!) is rude as hell!  The service is pretty bad, everyone work there must learn from their manager.........good food but bad service!   If you want to try...just go there..and wait, keep quiet...till you have a table...put your head down!
LaBuonGustaia
It was my first and last time in this place!! Totally disappointed!! I was told that I was being "too difficult" when I ordered something not on the menu. Really!?! <br/><br/>No empathy for someone who has a serious illness and people on specific diets. I felt so belittled and embarrassed in front of everyone. I couldn't stay and had to leave. <br/><br/>I wasn't able to eat anything so I can't rate the food. The service and experience was negative!! So the only rating I can give is the obligatory one. <br/><br/>I wish I had read the reviews as it seems to be norm for this place to treat customers with little empathy and no respect!!
Panggu Ddong
Food was ok, but service ruins the experience.  The woman who allocates the tables and takes your money is extremely rude.  I'll try not to think of her.
L. Patel
I love the dim sum here but Phyllis is truly awful. Yes it is busy and obviously stressful for her but that does not mean she can treat people the way she does. Last weekend simply asked her if i could put my name down for a table and she gave me the dirtiest look and walked away. I just walked back to where i was, then she took down two other names. You could tell that everyone around me that saw this felt bad for me, its embarassing that such a thing could upset me but it did! Also quite possible that she treats westerners differently, i asked my partner to go and put our name down (she didn't know we were together) and she was quite pleasant. Just not cool, but the dim sum is so good and the parking is great! She could have an even better business if she just had a better attitude and stopped being so damn abrasive and quite possibly discriminatory
ITADAKiMASU
Excellent food and wish I could rate higher but it wasn't the best service. Peak hour meant no service. When things quietened, we were checked on every few minutes even though we clearly didn't show any interest.
Siska Mariana
Food is good; everything is so fresh. The serving size is so generous. Service is good and efficient. You need to get here early if you want to get table straight away
MC
Good selection of food. Good quality. However the service should have been better. My friend and I had to wait in a 40 minute queue. But they let a group of western guys in without waiting, only were they told off at the end of the meal. When we were inside we still had to wait for food trolley for a long time.

I read a few reviews before I came here. Thought to myself "It's worth a try, I don't know who this "Phyllis" is but... how bad can she be?"<br/><br/>We went just a few hours ago on a Sunday night. We didn't have to wait at all. Right away we were taken to our seats for three, and were asked if we would like Chinese Tea.<br/><br/>A few minutes later we ordered our entree and mains. We ordered spring rolls, for entree and Special Fried Rice, Crispy Chicken, Pork Spare Ribs with Honey and Pepper, and Combination Meat Omlette for mains.<br/><br/>If you want to go to a Chinese Restaurant and not leave with that uneasy full feeling, that weird feeling Chinese restaurants seem to have, then this is the place for you. This place could be the only place I have had genuine Chinese food. <br/><br/>I don't know what all the fuss is about Phyllis the proprietor. She is a lovely lady that doesn't compromise her food, her service, her ethics and, most of all, her customers. This place has loyal customers. This place makes you feel like you want to come back and be a loyal customer. <br/><br/>The food was great, the service was exceptional.... <br/><br/>Phyllis knew we were coming in for the first time because when we came in she said "You have never been here before" That's a restaurant owner that knows her customers. <br/><br/>You know what... this is the first restaurant I have been to... and I have been to a few, that has asked "Would you like your mains now?". They were not simply trying to get bums on seats and more turnover... we could have said "no"<br/><br/>If you want exceptional Chinese, exceptional service at a fair price for exceptional... This is the place to come. Needless to say, we'll be back.
Katie Huirong Lim
Just wanted to note there are absolutely no gluten free options served here for dim sum. There is a reason why there are no notes on this in the summary. That said, once I go back to gluten I can't wait to come back here. Food looked amazing.
Japelin Lim
Worst customer service. Spent 10 minutes waiting upon arrival before we were greeted and asked how many people would be dining. Ignored by the waiters when being talked to.
Froggiefoodie
Fantastic location where you do not have to struggle to find parking and near the gorgeous jetty that will give you a much needed gentle workout after enjoying some of Imperial Court's star dishes (think fried squid, crispy skin chicken, mee ho fun with egg sauce, pepper prawns vermicelli, egg tart, prawn dumplings, shanghai dumplings...too many to list!). We always eat too much it is so good!<br/><br/>We go there on the weekend for their high-quality dim sum and on week nights, for an easy, tasty feast, complimented by their good selection of wines (Moss Wood Semillon...such a great match with chicken and/or prawns!). It might be a little more expensive than some Northbridge venues, but we are happy to pay a little more for the  quality of food, cleanliness and great service. We appreciate the ever thoughtfulness and kindness of Phyllis, the manager, who on weekends has to deal with big crowds and still retains her sense of humour, and her staff who are ever attentive to the customers. On Sundays, it pays to come early...the queues don't lie!
Subifoodie
Ok the yum cha is really good! Phyllis the proprietor runs a tight ship and is a little bossy. At times she is hilarious too! Weekends you wait to get in overlooking the swan river in outside courtyard after leaving your name with the boss. You know when a table is free because someone (usually Phyllis) shrieks your name! Can't fault the food. I've eaten yum cha the world over and it is right up there. Just be patient if you go on busy times .. It's worth the wait xx
Z
Rather eat microwave dim sum
Plecs140
Bad service. This is second time in a row I have got shockingly bad service the manager really needs to get her act together. There will be no third time as it is off my list. <br/><br/>1) organise your front end you can't expect people to stand around for 15-30 mins when you clearly have have empty tables.<br/>2) Do not tell people off for using Amex , you are charging them a surcharge anyway.<br/><br/>I use to bring clients here in particular if they are Asian , the food is taste good that is its only saving grace.
Beserker
In Defence of Food. If the food is good enough, I don't care how bad the service is. Are you there to eat or make buddies? If you really want to avoid getting told off, pay cash and be actively eating or ordering if people are queued up waiting for a table. It's not personal, it's maximising returns. Get with the program and get the BBQ Pork Buns.
Deanie98
Super Duper. Can't believe people are talking about the service being bad......went last weekend with our 3 and 5 year old girls and they were straight onto getting a highchair, spoon/forks and were so attentive it was amazing, almost embarrassing. Hot water for tea came often and never had to ask and the staff were so friendly. As usual we will be back and this place is by far the best I have been to (out of Melville, Applecross, Leeming)
Jac
Delicious yum cha enjoyed on a busy Sunday Mother's Day! Efficient staff and manageress! Yes, you will need to wait unless you get there early but it is definitely worth it! We will be back in no time!
Aj
Overall....it is a no. Well...what can I say about this place....<br/>super rude boss...slightly under staff<br/>some good dishes but some fairly average dishes too....add on the fact that it is also pricier than most other dim sum places....I would say give this place a miss<br/>if the boss lady cant learn to be polite than doesnt deserve u as a customer
Amy Lo
Worst customer service in Perth, rude manager. Go to this place occasionally, had been put up with the horrible manner of that lady so many times, keep going there is because it is close to home and foodwisely, i can say it is above average. went there again this sunday, and this time we experienced the worst customer service ever, that arrogant lady, Phyllis kept rushing us to leave by putting away our dishes and even ended up yelling and arguing with us. will never go back again and not recommend to anyone who wants a pleasant dinning experience
FoodieKitten
Expensive dim sum experience. We were surprised to be charged $15+ for a plate of plain bean sprout noodles whereas you only paid for $10 in a reputable chinese restaurant in northbridge. Among us we ordered two steamed baskets, 2 baked pastries and a plate of spring onion rice rolls. The bill came to $50+. We reckon it's more pricey than the usual dim sum fare in Northbridge. They don't provide receipt hence it only left us guessing.
Limyuzhen
Rude Manager. Speechless. Never written a review before but thought i had to share this, It was unbelievable. <br/><br/>As usual on a Sunday brunch, the place would be packed with patrons waiting in line. After waiting for almost 30mins and couldn't wait any longer, I proceeded to ask the manager how long more would we be waiting for? <br/><br/>Her answer was "If you don't want to wait, you can go to Mc Donalds instead." in Cantonese. What more can i say....Terrible
Luanyi922
Utterly Rude Manager, Worst Customer Service (NEVER AGAIN). Been to this restaurant for dim sum a couple of times. I had witnessed first hand the lack of customer service, more particularly, the rudeness of the restaurant manager (short and foul mouthed lady) to other customers on the first occasion. However due to its proximity to where I live, I went there again on one of the Sat last month, where we experienced unspeakably rude behaviour and attitude from this woman. Not sure she thinks there is only one dim sum place in Perth. What makes her think she has the right to yell at the customers? Just because we didn't want to argue with you, it doesn't mean that you were right. But we just walked off as we weren't as low as you. I have been dining around Perth and Australia for a long time, this experience was the worst ever.....NEVER AGAIN....
Bebe
Went there on Monday morning when it just opened its doors, very happy because I didn't have to wait. The food kept coming, hot and delicious. I and my friend enjoyed every dish so much. The owner was nice, taking care customers and checked if food has arrived. Staff were attentive and polite too. We were impressed with everything and definitely go back with more friends soon.
Elizawongsg
Rude manager and mediocre food. Couldn't agree more with most other reviewers - lady manager Phyllis was rude on all occasions when I was there. She allowed smoking at the verandah while other patrons were eating outside, mostly families with small children and older parents. She gave no regards to the health of other patrons and provded obvious preferential treatment to some customers whom she might be familiar with. Food was mediocre with no special dish really. We have visited most of the Chinese restaurants in Perth and there are definitely more worth going for than this restaurant. I will definitely not recommend or bring any guest to this place in future.
Nigel
Nice staff, rude manager, average food. I am writing this on behalf of my friend (lets call her Sarah). Sarah is a regular to this restaurant and enjoyed dining everytime she came with her family. Her father is a long time friend with the manager, Phyllis. Staff are always friendly and so is the manager. The manager always recommends Sarah and her family, the best dish of the day and always have a friendly chat with her for about 10 minutes. She went with her mother and brother to the restaurant, so without her father. They greeted Phyillis in a friendly manner but no response. She served Sarah and her family with no smile, no words, head down and frowning. Thus, since Sarah's father was not present, Phyllis treats people she doesn't recognise completely different. Sarah observed the other tables she was serving and it seemed as if she was friendly to the Caucasians and some Chinese-speaking people. <br/><br/>In terms of food, it is better compared to the Chinese restaurants in Northbridge. The waiting staff are friendly and polite.

We go to Imperial Court at least once a week as it's our local "authentic" Chinese restaurant. The food is always excellent and service is always great in our opinion. We have come to know the manager and her team well through our visits and she is definitely NOT rude as others have portrayed her. It's very unfair when faceless people attack restaurant owners, their staff and managers on forums like this instead of addressing their issues directly with those concerned. Well done Imperial Court!!
Robvb
Great Food and Service. We booked a table for a large family gathering of 11 people last night. The food was perfect and the service great. We've had several great meals at Imperial Court and last night was up to par.
Elaine Tan
Rude Manager. Agreed!!!
Jane Kung
Horrible Service. I have been to this place a few times. One time we reached there at 1:30pm, was told that they couldn't get us a table before 2pm (2pm is their last order time, even on weekends!) which implying us to leave.<br/>I went there again this Wed with a couple of friends for catch up, we stayed from 11:15am to 2pm, that purple headed woman (probably the boss) was very unhappy about it. She stared at us and shook her head, throwing plates on the tables around us, and slam the menu on the table right in front of us. She didn't say a word when we paid the bill even when we said thank you to her. We knew that she was very cross because we stayed too long. I will not be back!
Appleair1
Average dim sum + extremely rude service. Went with some friends because its closer than northbridge, but truly regret the trip.
Gary C
Great. Been many times always the best
Minnie
RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!. Title says it all - the host lady is terribly rude. I have been here a few times because it is nearby but never again!! The food is average and definitely not worth putting up with that host lady's lack of manners.<br/><br/>Oh yeah...by the way, she b*tches about everyone in Chinese... she even b*tches about people who understand Chinese

Read about mixed reviews of this place and wanted to find out for ourselves went to check it out today. We went there just as it opened and had to wait for a little while but was still ok. Got a table and started ordering. Food wasn't too bad, service was acceptable but halfway through the meal, we got TOLD, not informed, TOLD by the owner that we had to vacate after an hour. We were appalled and for the remainder of the meal, it became a rushed through affair and was so unenjoyable. It thoroughly spoiled our experience as we always thought yum cha was about enjoying the food while catching up with friends. A rushed affair such as this has definitely ruined our sunday yumcha experience and we would never go back again. Rather try some other place that doesn't kick us out just because there are others waiting for tables. In summary, better than average food ruined by terrible service and attitude.
May
Average dimsum. Ive been told this place does really really good dimsum so I had high expectations. I had shanghai dumplings which came with really good soup; squid tentacles were not flavoursome enough; fried radish cake in XO sauce was a tad salty but soft; brown rice flour roll was interesting; pork buns were standard; liu shao bao was a total failure. The best was the glutinous balls which required wait time. Very soft but could do with more black sesame filling.. overall it really is just average dimsum fare 5.5/10
Pc
Bad Customer Service. We went there for a dim sum lunch on a weekday and there was no table of 4 for us at 12 pm. In fact, there were still empty tables of 2, 6 and 8. The manager was not willing to give us a big table but she did give a table to another 4 people just walking in before us. There were then 5 people came in after us and got a table straight away. (Note - there is no reservation for lunch time.)<br/><br/>The manager was arrogant and did not have customer focus. She came and talked to us rudely and said she did not know how long we had to wait - this implied that we could leave as there would not be a table for us. She did not offer that if we did not mind waiting, we might have a table soon - what a poor service!<br/><br/>We won't be going back soon as there are other restaurants who will look after their customers better and we can enjoy our meal and chat happily.
Sisley Shu Zhang
If you don't want to spend 30min waiting, pls come before they open and line up like everyone else!! After a few visits, i find the trick is to come in bigger groups. Table for 2 always take he longest and the quickest is group of 4. But saying that, when I had my special brown rice flour roll, it's all worth it!! Crispy inside and soft& silky outside. The Steamed glutinous rice in lotus leaf is the best I had in perth. (Forget about north bridge!) Moist and aromatic. With walking distance from where I live, this is definitely my top recommended yum cha!
Gabriel Hou
Very bad service! The manager is very rude to customer. She even use finger to point out. This will never happen in a western style restaurant. I will never go there again. The taste is fine, but there are more restaurant that is better than it.
Vincivincing
Yucky dimsum and terrible service. We went to have dimsums and very disappointed with the bad attitude service from manager. Waitress kept asking us to wait when we called. Very unfriendly environment for children. Manager kept looking at out table if my child made a little noise. Dimsums tasted like frozen dimsum from microwave.
Jay Yen Shong
Average Dim Sum, Extremely Rude Service. Went there today for second time. Since it was raining heavily outside, we decided to wait inside the shop in front of the counter. Suddenly the lady boss went crazy and shouted at us "Can you all move out? I cannot breath!!!". We ended up went to Royal Seafood for dim sum, and totally boycott this shop forever.<br/><br/>Food wise is average. They are all similar to the northbridge shop. The only reason we went here is because it's near our house and there are plenty of free parking. But it's not worth for the abuse thou, strongly not recommended to our friends and family.
Trangttnguyen
Rip off restaurant ever - Never recommended to anyone. We went there to have dim sum on Sunday morning. It was first impression that it is a nice restaurant and has a beautiful location with river view. We placed the order and some of the food had never arrived at our table despite a reminder. The food was ok and cannot be compared to other Dim Sum restaurant in Northbridge which tastes much better. In the end, the bill was around $20, and we noticed that they said minimum $30 for credit card. So I thought I pay by eftpos saving account. And the cashier rudely said the $30 applied to any card payment? Wasn't she understand English? Credit card and saving account are totally different. She decided to charge us $30 for the bill which was cost only $20! What a thief! I rather put that $10 toward a charity than gave it away to this place. Never come back here again. First and last. I will report this to the consumer affair.

Very good. We went to dinner at Imperial Court recently and had excellent quality food & service. We've been here a few times and the high quality seems to be consistent. There is plenty of parking nearby & the décor is quite nice. The duck is very nice. Highly recommended.

Lovely Evening Meal With Friends. Just enjoyed a great Monday night gathering with friends over a beautiful selection of foods. Service good, all staff and Phyllis (Boss lady) friendly, polite and very attentive. Service was prompt, with a good crowd in. A good variety of flavoursome foods was enjoyed by all. We will happily visit again.

Birthday dinner was great. Fantastic food and Phyllis gave such great advise about our menu. perfect portions. delicious food. have to try their garlic butter lobster and violin duck!<br/>thanks Phyliis and team.
Ken
Good food, bad Phyllis!!!. The yum cha here is above average, it's a shame the ambience is flawed by nasty rude Phyllis. Get your act together or get out of the industry and go back to Mordor!
Wei Chong
HIGHWAY ROBBERY & RUDE WOMAN OWNER! <br/>Order a vegatarian fried noodle not on the menu cost $20.80 compare to various seafood/meat noodle for $16.80! The noodle contained only bean sprouts! When asked woman owner why so expensive she blatantly replied is special order off the menu and rudely dumped my change on the counter! <br/>Shame on you for such poor customer service and over charging! <br/>You have just lost a customer and many more as a I will certainly pass this on to my relatives, friends and colleagues!
Sarah
Most useless custer service. I booked a table online because it did put an option at 2pm, and when i called to make sure they told me NO i cant come at 2pm because its their last order. I told them that they should fix their booking times online and she answered me "ya ya ya k" rudest answer ever! Will never ever step at this restaurant no matter what. I rather eat grass than eating at a place who treats ppl like crap
Law87
Arrogant and obnoxious owner who made us feel like we had committed a crime when we suggested that the roast duck could be less dry. Constructive feedback definitely not welcome at imperial court. And don't even bother asking her any questions unless you want to be snapped at. But make sure you answer HER questions straight away or suffer her derisive attitude. Food was good, owner in need of an attitude-check!
Jhunter88
Rude waitstaff, rude management, nothing vegetarian. Yeh, you don't go to yum cha if you're vegetarian. Usually it doesn't bother me, I'll fill up on red beans and custard buns, but their attitude here was downright awful.<br/>We asked one of the waitstaff if they have anything vegetarian. Her reply was "no, all meat". We later asked the management, who rudely shouted "yum cha is meat". <br/>I have been to perfectly good yum cha where they have at least 1 or 2 vegetarian options. Vegie dumplings, or noodles.<br/>They eventually did a plate of vegetarian noodles, which tasted awful, like cheap chinese take-away. Not impressed, will not visit again.
Ian
Good food, charming manager. We have just had a meal at the Imperial Court. The food and service was excellent and we had great advice from the lady in charge when placing our order. I am a person who likes to complain but all I have is complements for this venue.
Elliottr
Great Service, Great Food. Phyllis and her team were a delight to dine with.<br/><br/>The food was fresh and clean, not stodgy like many Chinese restaurants around Perth these days.<br/><br/>The decor is clean and bright, with just one issue with the setting sun that affected our table, but most others were unaffected.
Janicewarne
Fresh, beautiful food!. A friend recommended this restaurant to me, and I've been many times, and each time, the food and service has been without fault! A good sign of an Asian restaurant, is to see lots of Asian customers.....can't understand the " sour" crits...then again, could have been placed there by the competition, huh?<br/>Clean, fresh setting...none of the usual cheesy garish colours of most Asian eateries!
Mosamdarli2
Don't go. Terrible customer service!!! Owner sour and aggressive. Booked for a very large group and all bar a couple turned up. Staff tried to make us pay for those who did not turn up. Food ok but overall a very unpleasant experience.
Ss
Terrible service! Avoid at all cost. Late to open the restaurant and kept customers waiting outside. When the sour faced owner finally decide to open the gate to let customers in, all staff and especially the owner was so unwelcoming! Not much variety and food was not fantastic for the exorbitant prices. Only a few staff were mildly friendly. They charge for EVERYTHING- even charged tea for the kids not because they actually drank tea but because they were occupying a place on the table. Come here only if you want an uncomfortable dining experience and to feel ripped off at the end of your meal.
Brendan Day
Amazing food and service to match! Met who I assume is the owner and she is positively lovely. Will definitely be back. This is my new favorite place for dim sum!
Janet
Worst dim sum food ever. Come here with my family to have dim sum for a change. and you know what. dim sum it's was so bad. order steam dumpling the skin was soggy. we also order plate pork and crispy noodles the pork was not fresh and the noodles aren't crunchy enough. lady at counter i think she's was the owner of the restaurant wearing no uniform and have no manner at all, she's asked in the weird look......... I don't think you are not regular customers. what the hell??? if I was her. she should reply: is this your first time!. how's did you like the food?and say hope to see you next time.<br/><br/>and there is nice restaurant we go conveniently unfortunately there won't open for lunch time on Sunday is along canning highway, Como. next to pizza hut and cellarbration shop between Lockhart st and Henley st. I won't say there name, hope you will find out yourself. open 7 day nights and there never closed on public holiday and always open. anyway Good Luck finding it!<br/><br/>by the way...I won't be going back to imperial court again. I don't recommend and it's rubbish food!

Food portion is big and tasted good. Easy to find parking. Will be back.

Bad attitude of the lady boss. I went there 2 months ago and I agree with the reviews that the lady boss has a bad attitude. I wanted to celebrate my birthday there with 25 of my friends and when I asked her if she can put together a banquet menu for us, the first thing that she said was: "how much do you want to pay?" - she said this without even looking at me. She gave me her card which ended up in a bin where it belongs.
Jj
Unprofessional service and rude attitude of the lady boss was totally unexpected. She was rude to the staffs and was impolite to customers. The service of the Waiters and waitresses in general are good and food was average. The attitude of the lady boss made us uneasy.
TobeNotTobe
In my opinion those that doesn't like the food is because they didn't order the right stuff. I only come here for their egg tart, brown rice flour rolls, prawns dumplings with black fungus, Shanghai dumplings, chestnut dumplings & fried carrot cake. I never order the normal dim sim stuff.
Valentine
The food is pretty average. Some items like the Siew Mai, chicken feet and prawn dumplings are nice, but others are quite a miss. I didn't enjoy the rice rolls, pork buns nor the egg tarts and selection is pretty limited. Worth a try to see if you have any favourites but I won't go back again.

Been here a few times and after the last visit, I don't think I want to recommend this place. We always have to wait for ages. Last time I went on a Monday for lunch, we were sent outside in the cold to wait for at least 20mins. They were unexpectedly busy for a Monday. My meant to be short lunch break became an over 1 hour lunch! Service was slow, one dim sum dish came out at a time. It was nice that they made it fresh for us (at least that's what I thought) but it's dim sum, it's supposed to be fast and where's the trolley?? We were waiting 6 to 10 mins for each dish to come. Too long! Food was average too, we've had better!

Best Dim Sum in Perth.. Food and setting can't be beat.. Love it and going there now

Always well loooked after here. provably the best place for dimsum

Authentic Chinese Yum Cha - awesomeness. A must go for anyone into authentic Chinese cuisine. No sweet and sour psychedelic sauce here, this is he original Yum Cha affair. Soft Shell crab is an absolute must - best I have had ever! Full review here..<br/>http://transparencyitblog.com/midweek-directors-lunch-at-imperial-court/

Amazing Hidden Gem!. Food was authentic Chinese, I definitely felt like I had a dining experience. The staff were great, the owner comes and talks to you about the food, your food choices ect. She was awesome and so funny, I haven't laughed that much while being served for dinner. The restaurant does not look like a typical Chinese restaurant, more fine dining. The price fitted the experience, I would have paid more. It was that good I started this account. Now reading other reviews I can't believe we are talking about the same place. Will be raving about this place for a long time.
QwLee
70% Like?. Worse customer service ever!! never try to sit outdoor, cause you will need to wait for 15mins for your tea, 30mins for your first dimsum! Rude staff!! Food is mehhhh.
Hungry_lad
Fantastic meal. As always, a fantastic dinner at Imperial Court. <br/><br/>Interestingly all the negative press they are receiving here. The reported actions and attitude by staff couldn't be further from the truth.<br/><br/>Read between the lines. Try it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.<br/><br/>Read the blog reviews for people who will put their name to their reviews as opposed to anonymous scare mongerers.

Management ridiculously rude. and yes, I made an urban spoon account just to disseminate this information.
Ying
It's the most unpleasant dim sim experience I had ever! We were trying to get a table there and there is NO ONE CARE how long u wait! The boss at the register was so rude and angry all the time. She practically just yell at you:"Don't stand at the front door, wait outside!" I don't think any customer deserve to be treated like that. WORST DIM SIM restaurant in Perth!

Is it legal?. Went on Friday night. Not particularly busy, didn't book and got a table. Place our order two dishes and was told we need to order more because there is minimum order of $30 per person and it was ala carte! I pointed out, my son who is only 3 yrs old cannot be classified as a person. The waiter insisted, so I said, I order soup. He said nope cannot since soup is less than $20. Anyway I finally picked a tofu dish. When the food arrived it was evident that we could not possibly finish three dishes. So before the third dish was out, I asked them to put it in doggy bag. Cut long story short, I spoke to the manager who agreed that the third dish was not necessary, took it off the table abruptly. When I went to pay the bill came out to $58.60. She asked me to pay $60. What with the rounding up? I paid eftpost to avoid the credit card charge. The manager never said thank you.<br/><br/>Recommendation: not returning. Felt ripped off! If I want to pay extra no matter how small or big the amount, I will decide since it was my money. What's the point of putting the price next to the dish if the charge will be $30 per head? I supposed when the dish is expensive, the price ala carte applied? <br/>Not kids friendly and not friendly service either. <br/><br/>But I supposed my small change does matter for big establishment such as them. Heard the manager said to other customer,if we don't like the food, we get our money back. Wonder what kind of special treatment the manager has if we exercise that option?

Quality of food has been declining each time I returned. The utterly rude & arrogant attitude of the manager is the final straw for us. We tried to order extra food just 5 minutes after 2pm, and were told flatly that we missed the last order because we were talking too much. I didn't realise a dim sum lunch was meant to be a silent affair! Never returning here again & will not recommend this place to anyone.
Simple
Stodgy dim sum.. Dim sum is supposed to delight the heart, not weigh down the stomach.

I have been visiting this place from its beginning. sorry to say standard of food is deteriorting and service from bad to worse. the dish we had was very salty. will not return anymore.

Dinner. I went there with my partner last night. I think it was a fantastic dinner, we had the plan of having special fried rice and three dishes to go with it. We were kindly informed that it would be too much for just the two of us as the portion sizes were large so we order just two dishes with the rice. I think they were definately right it would have been too much and we appreciated the fact that they suggested that instead of just letting us order so it saved us money. Not many places do that! Their service was impeccable and we never had to refill our wine glass ourselves, the waiters were very professional. Over all it was a pleasurable dining experience and I will be returning. Thanking you all :) <br/>Ursula

OK Food, Could be better Service, On the pricy side. Restaurant - We were feeling hungry for chinese so we had lunch at this restaurant on a weekday. It was recommended by a friend. It wasn't crowded. 80% of the restaurant was empty but the waitress showed us a frown when we didn't have a booking. <br/><br/>Food - Food was ordinary. Dumplings were tasty but I've had better in many places elsewhere. Noodles were a little soggy and any ingredients in it wasn't generous.<br/><br/>Service - Waiter was attentive and served us tea, changed our plates when they got full. But he had a hard time understanding us when we were ordering or needed something.

Loved every bit about the place. Fresh dim sum. I just can't believe I have actually been waiting in queues in nrthbridge for sub standard food all this time. The manager was pleasant so I'm quite shocked to read previous reviews. Reminds me of HK! So good!
Gav
Very expensive $5.9 for coke. Question the manager, because it is a glass bottle. Food is way too expensive .

Bad experience! Average food you can get everywhere, but overcharged and very expensive. Limited options on dimsum, not as many as dragon palace. Service is bad, slow, charge for everything even when you have big number. Long wait, owner even told you to go and eat somewhere else because its too busy. Arrogant, angry to customer, no respect.. Only good because of its location which is outside city area. Will not come back again!

Not worth your money. Not worth the wait.. Mediocre food. Bad attitude from the manager. <br/><br/>Trust me. I'm an Asian. I don't even want to go there for a second try.

Dim Sum in Como - What will they think of next?. This place is clean, the decor is modern and the food is well above the average Dim Sum shack. The dumplings seem very fresh, the squid is excellent. Unfortunately no trolley, you have to order off the menu but the dishes all came out very quickly. Unlike the reviews I’ve read here I found the staff to be polite and very accommodating. I like a bit of theatre at Dim Sum, I like floor staff rushing around and dishes flying everywhere. It’s nice to give Northbridge a break and enjoy this intimate well located suburban offering.<br/>Id say the cost is about 15% more than Northbridge but the quality compensates for that.<br/>I went last Friday and I’m going back today. Keep up the good work.

Never Again!. Busy but not overly noisy ... BUT ... seemed the owner & one other staff person were the only ones who understood English. After ordering our wine said staff person had to check & interpret our wine order. Food OK but nothing exceptional. Asked politely if there was any chance we could move ... because of nearby small child exercising his lungs ... the owner abruptly & to the point told me we should have asked for a quiet place when we booked & we couldn't move. Two guests at our table had been there a number of times & when sighted they were 'fawned' over but the rest ignored. But the crowning glory & the main reason was the Amex surcharge ... 5%!!!! I do believe that this is bordering on illegal ... if they don't want to use Amex ... DON'T ADVERTISE IT! This is why I will not be going back!

Nice place out of Northbridge. They open at 11am and apparently there will be a queue outside starting at 10.45am. There were 12 of us, so we complied and we managed to get a table without fuss. <br/><br/>Service was brisk and to the point but teapots were always topped up and carts of food was offered to us at all times. <br/><br/>Siew Mai was robust and with bursty prawns and pork. Squid tentacles were crispy and soft (not chewy) on the inside. Steamed Pork ribs were fresh, flavourful and not too salty. Steamed buns, porridge, egg tarts , prawn dumplings and chicken feet were lovely. <br/><br/>I found the rice rolls, choy sum with oyster sauce, beancurd roll, glutinous rice to be a bit average. <br/><br/>I would warn that a lot of my friends experienced less ideal service but I did not at this time. In summary, I'd like to return. Also I did not drink copious amounts of water after dining here - I usually do when eating dim sum with high amounts of MSG.

For best chinese food in perth---this is the place to go to---try their prawns with vermicelli in xo sauce....mouth watering dishes.....yum cha/dim sum also delicious

Yam Cha Joy not in NorthBridge. The Joy of Joy Garden but not in NorthBridge. Thank You!<br/><br/>BTW they are only closed on Tuesdays, not as per the website shows.

Century egg porridge is fabulous!

Yum! Good dim sum!!!. Quality ingredients and quality production - don't miss the steamed king prawn and black fungus dumplings, Sui Mai are excellent too. A little pricey, but worth it. Especially during the week when things are quieter...

Delicious and reasonable. We came to Imperial Court on a suday night with my partner and parents, and initially had no idea what to expect. in the end we had a great night though and went home satisfied.<br/><br/>the decor looked strange and very clinical (everything was white) and the lighting is turned up way too bright, but there were large groups of people seated around round tables and obviously really enjoying their food.<br/><br/>we came in and were seated straight away. the wait-staff were very efficient and attentive, and we wewre even given advice on what to order and how much, which was very helpful because the menu is huge.<br/><br/>the food was sensational. the dumplins were plump and fresh, the vegetables crisp, and the meat dishes full of flavour. we had the fried duck in plum sauce, ribs in peking sauce, and the sechzuan beed. the especially duck was divine! the bill at the end of the night was totally reasonable too - $158 for 4 people, which works out to less than $50 per head.<br/><br/>many reviews mention they were treated poorly by the short lady manager, but our experience with her was fine. admittedly she is very to-the-point but I actually enjoyed that better than the fawning, overly unctuous maitre-d's you get inother places. so as long as you come prepapred, I think you'll be ok with her :)

Imperial. Phyllis is the so very very perfect lady, kind & accommodating to all.love her new hairstyle

Delicious!. We have recently discovered dim sum at Imperial Court and could not be happier. The service has been excellent on both visits - a short 10 minute wait when arriving at 12.30pm, suggestions on things we might like from one very helpful staff member, piping hot fresh food, our tea pot regularly refilled, clean surroundings (tables cleared quickly & fresh tables cloths laid) & well priced. Can highly recommend the BBQ pork puffs, prawn & chive steamed dumplings & the egg tarts - in our opinion the best in Perth. Plus a view of the river - what more could you ask for? We will be regular visitors.

Rude rude rude!! The main manager (short angry looking woman) has no hospitality skills what so ever! Went in today and was rudely told we couldn't eat there? Even if we waited? How do you do business?? The food not even that great. AVOID!!!!

Came here for dimsum today for the very first time. Food came out slow but tasted fresh. Tad expensive than your everyday dimsum restaurants, but overall, foods are good, service not too bad. <br/><br/>I will be back again !

EXPENSIVE The lady manager .... EXPENSIVE<br/>The lady manager manner is rude

This place can be a gem to many or a disappointment to some. You must get to know Phyllis, the boss, straight talking and. truthful to the point of bluntness. My advice is to take her recommendations and you will be rewarded with fine Hong Kong style cuisine. Priced higher than the usual Chinese restaurants, but food is nicer too. Give it a try, but avoid weekends.

Bad service overwhelms good food. I've been here twice but don't go on a Sunday. They don't take reservations so I went early at 11am and there was already a queue. When the doors opened, we waited until we reached the door only to be told that as our friends hadn't arrived they would not give us our table. But they did to others in the same situation because they knew the owner. When our friends arrived 5 min later, they refused rudely to give us a table even though their were tables outside and said we had to wait an hour for the next one. Poor service doesn't compensate for their good dim sum, they have lost my patronage...

Don't go there. I have been here a number of times with family and friends who are well known to Phyllis- the manager of the restaurant. She is sweeter than honey with them. <br/><br/>However, if i go on my own, i am treated just like the average Joe- with poor service and dismissive attitude. <br/><br/>The dim sum- it's average. The dinner- is below average. Be careful with what you order- especially with items that are market price. Make sure you find out the price before you agree to it. <br/><br/>The only plus for this place is the location- free parking.

Not good at all. Went here for lunch on a quiet Monday. Food took a long time. Siu mai was average flavour (Dragon's in Northbridge still set the standard), the pan fried rice flour rolls were soggy and fell apart when you tried to eat them, steamed pork ribs were flavourless (not enough black bean). After 10 sets of dimsum between 2 girls and 2 guys we were still hungry, and so ordered a stir fried beef hor fun (cantonese version of char kway teow) - the serving was tiny for $12.80. And it was very oily.<br/><br/>Plus they charge $2.50(!!) per head for chinese tea. And the tea was of the quality you get from the free hot water tanks at cheap restaurants.<br/><br/>Won't be coming back here for dimsum. If I'm going to pay those prices, I'll stick to Dragon
Ausheaven1
Food not really that healthy. They must got their spare rib cheap. Lots of fat. Would definitely avoid this one.<br/>By the way look at the other dishes with pork- you get heart disease and clogged arteries in no time.<br/>Better qualities elsewhere.<br/>Overall taste no too bad, service average. Price - Too pricey.<br/>Can do better. <br/>You don't get chilli oil !!!

We had our dinner tht day there, the food is amazing. We enjoy alot!

Classy but pricey. Based on the recommendation of a friend, we went for dinner one night when it was cold, windy and rainy. I was a bit hesitant, based on previous reviews on Urbanspoon about bad service, but our experience was quite different. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that we came for dinner instead of dim sum, and hence there were fewer diners for the staff to deal with. In any case, the staff were attentive and the food was...average. I think there's better quality food found in other parts of Northbridge but I know there are lots of people who prefer not to venture into Northbridge and from experience, I know it's sometimes hard to find a local neighbourhood Chinese restaurant serving good food.<br/>As I said, the food was tasty but there was no wow factor. Prices were about 20-30% higher than elsewhere (to give an idea of the prices you are paying). The decor was pristine and there's much less of the hustle and bustle in busy Chinese restaurants. Wouldn't go back again for dinner but that's more because I did feel it was a bit expensive. May try the dim sum one day though.

Not value for money and the service is poor! Went for dinner and the waitress recommended 2 dishes to us while we were looking through the menu. We ordered food through the lady ownder less than 5 minutes later and were told that both recommended dishes had run out. Not a big problem per se, but the lady boss rudely chided us for expecting that the recommended dishes would not have sold out in between those 5 minutes, when she could have easily admitted the more probable miscommuncation between her staff not knowing that they had already run out earlier on. It is never good to blame the paying customers for your mistake.<br/><br/>The food - roast duck (~$40), prawn vercimilli (~$30); vegetables with ginger and wine ($18)<br/><br/>Food portions were not particularly generous. Although nothing tasted really bad, it was just alright. The vegetable dish was a plate full of stems without any leaves at all. we received further poor service after this as well.<br/><br/>Imperial court is well located and decor is pleasant but you will get more authentic and generous servings at other restaurants for these prices.

The food here is great. Reasonably priced too for the awesome quality. The owner is great at making recommendations so definitely listen to her suggestions. The venue has been nicely renovated and great location too!
NKJessy
Service very poor with proprietor coming to us twice complaining she should not have taken so many bookings! All dishes did not come out together. Crispy skin chicken came out last and on its own. Food quality is good but quantity smaller compared to other Chinese restaurants. Steamed rice unbelievably priced at $26 for 8 adults and 3 children!

OMG. This place is amazing, I can't believe this opened in Como I am so so so happy!! Really great Dim Sum, good prices, friendly staff, lovely decor and very very clean! LOVE IT!!
Fat Freddy
The service was bad and the food took too long to arrive. The proprietor effectively said "too bad we are very busy today" without any apology. Food was as good as any decent Chinese restaurant. It is also licensed, another drawback. Won't be going back there.

Lovely food but possibly has some teething problems. As far as I know, Imperial Court is fairly new on the scene so perhaps as expected with new establishments it can take some time for it to find its groove.<br/><br/>I had dim sum here today and arrived at 11.45am only to find there was a wait of one and a half hours. I understood; it was after all a Sunday and the food is reputed to be amongst the best dim sum in Perth so willing was I to wait. <br/><br/>I was advised to find Phyllis who was in charge of taking bookings and I have to say, I did find her quite abrupt and perhaps dismissive. If she is the manager I suppose it cannot be easy running around trying to accommodate everyone and manage the staff, however, I'm quite fed up with the lack of service you often find at Chinese/Asian restaurants and that it's often brushed aside with a "well, you know, that's just how it is." Regal on Roe is always busy, yet their staff are very friendly and always pleasant. <br/><br/>Phyllis advised me of the long wait and said it was possible I would not get a table at all, which I accepted and said I would return in about an hour to try my luck then. We returned and to her credit she seated me quite swiftly after I had returned. By this time it was almost 1pm and it had quietened down considerably with a few empty tables.<br/><br/>We ordered the Shanghai dumplings, prawn dumplings (plain and with fungus), shu mai, BBQ pork buns, soft shell crab, chicken feet and egg tarts. I would agree that they do have very good dim sum. Being that much of it is ordered and not rolling around on a cart, it's very fresh. It's also not over steamed and gluggy nor is it greasy. It is however slightly on the salty side which I found was quite apparent in the BBQ pork buns. Unfortunately the Shangai dumplings never arrived even after asking after them twice and by that point I was quite stuffed and willing to let it go. It's a shame because I really wanted to try their variation in the soup.<br/><br/>I would return for the food however I think the service needs to step it up a notch. We seemed to be forgotten about even though the large table next to us was constantly being served. We would try to get someone's attention after they were done with that table and often they just quickly walked away. It took quite some time to get some more Chinese tea and as already mentioned, the Shanghai dumplings never came. The food was definitely not a disappointment, but I do feel somewhat disappointed in the service.
Dobole
The food tasted quite nice but the service was really bad. The lady who I think is in charge was really rude and the food we ordered did not come at all.<br/>Will NOT be going back.

Best Dim Sum in Perth. Been there twice this week. Restaurant just newly opened 2 months ago. What you want is QUALITY ... NOT QUANTITY. Imperial Court gives you the Quality! Their basic dim sum food .. Siew Mai (pork & prawn mix very juicy, perfect!) and Egg Tart (the pastry is so welldone, not too sweet... perfect and best egg tart in Perth, it is limited per day!)<br/>Must try! Chefs are from Guang Zhou (Best Dim Sum in the world) and Hong Kong.

Dinner for a party of 8 was an enjoyable relaxed affair. Food was all delicious- all chosen by hostess Phyllis.<br/>This is a place for discerning diners - not those looking for cheap Chinese 'take-out' style food. White linen cloths and napkins all make this a place for a nice night out at prices that are reasonable though not cheap.<br/><br/><br/>-----30 Jun, 2012-----<br/><br/>Food remains outstanding. Phyllis is certainly the draw card. Service is slow so be prepared to just relax and enjoy the evening as waiting is inevitable<br/><br/><br/>-----29 Mar, 2012-----<br/><br/>Phyllis is fabulous - her vibrant personality, attention to detail and superb people skills make this place where you feel welcome and relaxed. Add to that the delicious food and you have a recipe for succes. All in all a great eating experience

Looking for a fantastic dim sum experience, well look no further. Imperial Court in Melville Parade, Como serves up some of the best dim sum in town. Beit a leisurely yum cha session, or a quick bite, Phyllis and her team at the Imperial Court will enthrall you with their home made dim sum delights. I say home made, because many other restaurants import their dumplings due to the lack of skilled dim sum chefs around.

Likes: excellent service, unusual dim sum choices; Dislikes: no black bean tripe (my favourite!); Value for money: good; Overall: great dim sum in a convenient location

I hate waiting in line; it’s time you never get back again. I just don’t have the patience to wait similar to Simba in the Lion King who just couldn’t wait to be king. So why I keep heading back to Northbridge for dim sum on Sunday is beyond me. When I used to work Sundays at Myer in the city I would see the lines stretch out on Roe Street. This obviously didn’t stop me from trying my luck. On this stormy November morning the cousins and I were craving dim sum and despite getting lucky finding parking we weren’t lucky at avoiding the queues. Back in the car we went with my cousin Nen in the backseat googling suburban dim sum options. She stumbled upon the Imperial Court in Como so down the freeway we went while the rain bucketed down. After finding the restaurant quickly, easily finding free parking and joining a much smaller queue the food was in our reach. Within twenty minutes we were seated and food was on our table.

Overall, my experience at Imperial Court was pleasant. Starting with some of the best har gao and siew mai in town and not to mention a really delicious Shanghai dumpling, what can I say? Even the deteriorating service was forgotten with that sweet ending of a really top quality egg tart. Was this a once off that the selected few dishes were shining ever so brightly? I can never say the answer but when you pay them a visit, you will know. So when will you be heading there for a try? Because I know I will be! Soon! At the very least, for a confirmation :P!

The soup dumplings are actually in a bowl of soup. (What a genius idea.) Ensconced in supple skin, fatty minced pork melts into the soup within. Then there is even more of the same divine soup in the bowl, with just a touch of ginger to offset the richness.

With a rather unpleasant start to the meal, and a rather average dining experience, I don’t think I’d be back for dim sum here anytime soon. Dinner? Perhaps.
