Bench is a pleasant little coffee shop in Hay Street down towards Victoria Avenue, quite small, but comfortable inside –with the requisite benches, too! They also have a couple of sidewalk benches with stools and on a sunny winter’s day in Perth that seemed to be a good place to sit and watch the world go by as I sipped on my coffee.
Amazing coffee and good food (we had the toasties n muffin).
Service was excellent with friendly staff and quick service.
Would definitely go back there and recommend to our friends!
The coffee is actually really good! (I walk past often and see the signs claiming so - and it's definitely true!). The staff were so nice and friendly plus they do almond milk. I would like if they did XL takeaway cups though.
Best coffee in perth ! Very lovely staff as well .. a must for coffee lovers. Do yourself a favour if you love good coffee and excellent service
They are open on a Sunday!!! Try the big breakfast, only available Sunday I believe. They use a special bleed of coffee; Alice estate, Primaveral and Yirgzero.
Friendly service, the staff always greet you when you walk in the door. Coffee needs more consistency. I love their banana bread, makes me drool writing about this.
It's a buzzing place and make sure you have time to wait a bit for your coffee if you get there before 9. Well that's just the way it is at a popular cafe in the CBD!
This place had been my daily caffeine fixer for the last 2 years. Their coffee is simply superb- not many other places do coffees like them. In the mornings, they tend to be really busy, but even then you'd rarely have to wait more than 10mins. The new owner, who's always so friendly, has done a fantastic job maintaining their standard.
Now that my company has moved away from the area, I've yet to find a cafe that does my coffee like them.
Certainly serves one of the best coffees in the area. The counter lady is always so lovely, her smile and great service make me a regular here.
This place tends to be busy in the morning and around lunch time, so if you do decide to come down, make sure you dont mind waiting at least 5-10 minutes.
They serve consistently good coffees here (4.5/5) however since the first owner left, the place consistently looks messy and unkept behind the counter. It detracts a little from this previously sharp and edgy cafe. I now prefer to take my coffee and go as quickly as possible. Hoping the coffee quality doesn't drop too!
It is lovely visiting Bench espresso and being greeted with a warm and friendly smile. The savoury muffins are delicious toasted! The coffee is pretty good however it can sometimes take a while to get after ordering when it's busy.
To go place when u want a good coffee in the morning , never dissapointing . Gotta wait for a while during office hours , which is worth for
And they got great muffin too with different flavor each day ~
Wat a great start of my mornings 😘
Amazing coffee. The staff are pleasant and friendly. I'm lactose intolerant and this Cafe stocks good quality soy milk - a must for me. I didn't get a chance to try any food but if it's as good as the coffee, I'd be ecstatic. The only issue is there is major construction happening directly across the road so noise is a bit of an issue if you're sitting outside but indoors it's barely noticeable.
Awesome coffee. Smooth and strong. Long macchiato was perfect (went back a second time in the same day). Fast and friendly service. Staff clearly cared about coffee
Vanessa, owner and genius behind this venture has created a true public service by opening in a location that was sorely missing a coffee option. A fantastic venue by a team that knows the coffee so very well. I don't get down here as often as I would like but it is a greatly enjoyable experience when I do.
Called in to grab a coffee after being told it was the best coffee in East Perth...agree was super - 5 senses coffee and staff superb
Friendly staff, great coffee, best cafe in Perth!
I think if you're a weekday cafe and near the hospital. Your opening times should be 0630 so that nurse can get a coffee before their 0700 start.
Best coffee bar none. Bench is my favorite coffee place in town. You just have to look at the crowd in the mornings (as compared to the lack of crowd in nearby cafes) to tell you there's something special with the coffees here. Mornings do not feel right for me until I have my daily fix from them....
28 Feb update:
Last friday was my first day back in the area after being posted away for a few months. The coffee was still absolutely great, as was their bacon and egg sandwich. Other than the owners, there are some new faces behind the counter but it's still the same old Bench that I know and missed away at Armadale the last few months.
Morning cappuccino. The cappuccinos are nice and strong and I am addicted. This little shop is very well patronized by loyal customers who, like me, have worked a treat of caffeine in to our morning ritual. This is my favourite coffee place and wished it was open on the weekends.
Awesome coffee, in the top few in Perth. Cool industrial polished concrete decor.
Just popped in for a take away coffee. Menu looks very good and the coffee was awesome. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Will be back!
Tiny place with heart.. Delicious espressos, good crema, lovely fruity coffee. It can get busy as it's in the heart of the city, but its comfy once you're seated. Apricot, nut and white chocolate gluten-free slice was tasty, but contained so much sugar that my pancreas started rumbling.
Purposely dropped by there to try their mocha. It turned out to be one of the greatest mocha I hv ever tried in Perth.
Only been once but this is up to two coffee cup standard (referring to Age Good Cafe Guide). Great baristas, a synesso machine (thought there must be a law against them in WA they are so rare!) and good quality beans. $4.80 for single origin is a bit much - should try to encourage diversity, not charge an extra $1 but I'll keep on paying it during business trips to Perth. Overall one of the best I've seen in WA.
Just started work right near this cafe and I cannot be happier about it!! The BEST coffee I've ever had in Perth. Staff are friendly and the service is super fast even with lines of people. Just goes to show that Charles Stewart is the master! Can't wait to try some of the yummy gluten free treats and toasted muesli with yoghurt :)
Awesome coffee. Having moved down this end of town only recently I was lamenting the loss of access to the likes of Basilica and Velvet, but having found Bench, I am suitably satisfied. The coffee is smooth and creamy and the service is quick. The best coffee that I've found in this part of the city.
Its a winner. Bench is fantasic!!!its a coffee shop that has staff that have a real passion for the coffee they make as well as the neat artwork they create in their coffee .
10/10
Fantastic smooth coffee. something that rivals velvet espresso on the east side of Perth. highly recommend soy latte for the lactose intolerant
Best coffee in Perth CBD. Hands down.
Ridiculously good coffee. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
Excellent coffee and tasty treats.
Heaven on Earth. I love their coffee and the fact they are so close to my work but I can't stop dreaming about their Pear, Pistachio and Dark Chocolate slice toasted and then buttered! I would be a happy girl if I could have this with my soy cap every morning. Truly heaven on earth.
Good coffee, but give me more of that sugary stuff, yum! Om nom nom!
3 Win's. I enjoyed the whole experience. Staff were friendly, cafe was light filled, and coffee was NOT dissapointing. Had a short mac, a sip of my boyfriend's flat white, and shared a cold drip filter.
Consistently great coffee. My morning routine wouldn't be complete without these guys. Great coffee, and depsite the regular big crowd, turnover is always quick.
Great start to a new cafe.. Whilst I rarely venture into the city, a good barista friend of mine from TXTSHOTS had referred me here. Hesistant as always about Perth cafe's, I was probably first taken aback at how small the place is, but also the fact it took me 20 minutes to find it thanks to some stupid google programming (lol).
Straight off the mark I was welcomed by the owner. Hands down she was friendly and willing to chat with me about coffee. I know it wasn't busy and all, but she didn't have to. I love my coffee hot first of all, and I knew I was in for a GOOD COFFEE when she mentioned that she refused to burn the milk but make it hot so it would last my next hour in the city (which it DID). THe fact she knows that when I ask for hot it SHOULD MEAN DO NOT BURN THE MILK BUT MAKE IT HOT, was a good sign.
Friendly owner, great coffee, not sure about food as I have only been here once..
BUt I'd definitely come again!!!
Good job Bench!
Consistently outstanding coffee and great service! Not much sitting/standing space or food, and only one or two gluten free options (not always available). Still a great place for a sanity check any day.
Great coffee & generous shots. Not much food tho'
Would Love A Good Cup Of Tea
+4.5
Highly recommend!. Went there earlier this week and had the most amazing hot chocolate... made with beautiful creamy and rich melted couverture chocolate. Delicious!
Perth is starting to claim some amazing coffee as it’s own. When I’m here I need at least one good one a day my answer is Bench Espresso on many a morning. I would probably try some of my old favourites if I was closer, or one of my new faves like Lowdown. But Bench is right up there with the best.
compilation of my Perth eats & coffee during my visit in November
I don't need to go on about how delicious the coffee is, but I will recommend trying their hot chocolate or a mocha. They use those most exquisite liquid coverture chocolate. If coffee alone isn't enough caffeine to buzz you out of that 3pm slump, doubling it with Belgian chocolate is sure to do the trick.
Recently, a friend recommended coffee at Bench Espresso - namely their carbonated iced coffee. I love iced drinks and was a little perplexed at the thought of carbonated coffee so naturally, I wanted to try it. Seeing as though I used to work in West Perth and Bench Espresso is located on the east side of the CBD, I found it difficult to visit Bench Espresso, which is only open on weekdays. Luckily, A and I had a Wednesday off and decided to take the opportunity to try a carbonated iced coffee and one of their cakes. Due to my current diet of minimal wheat, I've been interested to see the options for folks who are gluten free. A and I ordered two takeaway coffees to start with - a skinny cap and a flat white (Large is $4.30 and small is $3.70) and also ordered a gluten-free White Chocolate, Nut and Apricot slice to nibble on. When we were at the till, I asked about the carbonated iced coffee and was told it is still being chilled and wouldn't be available until lunch time. At that time
