Review Taka Japanese Cafe - Perth

Hyman
That is a very cheap Japanese Restaurant. You get what you pay for. I order number 6 Karaage Rice, that was so dry. But actually soup included. I think it would be better if comes with some sauce or any else.. There is no free parking. No street parking. Only one. There is a parking lot which is only free for the first 3 hours on public holiday. I went to here for 1 hours on weekday. Paid $4 .

My go to place that is very reliable and always taste good overall. Value for money. 8.5 per large meal. Small meal is 6.5. Have been visiting taka for more than 10 years and still taste the same. Talking about consistency here. Thumbs up always. Good for students and anyone who feel like a simple meal without having to break the bank

Quite nice place just inside the city very calm and peaceful except for the occasional kid/baby that starts to cry. very nice view and the food is cheap and affordable but the only downside is that you get what you payed for. saying that the food is only as good as how much you payed for it other than that it’s lovely.

Delicious food, super quick service, a great price. Seating is utilitarian but there's a fair bit of it. The food was amazing. Huge portions too
yoyo1788
It’s sounds a kind of the favorite food from backpackers because cheap price and tasty. The first option when we arrived Perth . Today, it’s my first time to try it after I lived here for two and half years👍
Edward Lee
Food is great and portions are big for a very affordable price. Don't have to wait too long for food as well so that's a plus. Ambience though kinda feels like a cafetería but not bad. One of my favourite places to get a simple lunch

Ordered Udon with Tempura and vegetable today. Another. Big. Mistake. Of. My. Live. $11 for a not-so-special soup, 1 tempura and oily fried vege. Well done Taka. You lost a customer today

I had a chicken karage Ramen noodle, it was good. But, as a big guy and a big eater, I could not have extra noodles as I requested, the reason is just because they have never done it before, i was not full enough for that portion. However, the staff have done a great job. Just provide a knowledge about a price for any extra requested.

Very cheap and tastes like it. We tried 7 different dishes and none of them were nice. Definitely wouldn’t come back here again.
Nadia
I almost taste all the food. I like all of them, but my favourite one is chicken karage. Affordable price and the restaurant is located in the middle of Perth City.

Miso ramen broth was so plain and egg was over boiled. Don’t know why it’s so popular??? Maybe cheap comparing to other places...but definitely not great
Matt
The go to place if you are craving for affordable Japanese food in Perth CBD. Most items on the menu is below $10. Food is good and place is generally packed.

Cheap simple and tasty! No frills no catches just good food. Very fast ordering and service. Always have the chicken katsu don or the teriyaki Don. Both very nice.

I used to love this place years ago. But it’s really gone downhill since then.<br/><br/>I went there for dinner yesterday with my partner and we were sorely disappointed. My chicken karaage was way underdone. I pointed it out to one of the waitresses and asked for another serving. The kitchen hand put the very same plate of chicken back in the fryer for literally less than a minute and then the waitress brought it back out to me. Lo and behold, it was still pink in the middle. Not wanting to take a gamble on salmonella, I asked for a refund for the karaage. The waitress was defensive about it, claiming that the chicken was pink in the middle because of the ‘sauce’ they had marinated it in. I told them I had never seen karaage like that and that it was unsafe to eat. After a bit of back and forth I eventually got my refund. I left with an empty stomach.<br/><br/>My partner had the sushi nigiri - the fish was really not fresh and the rice was too soft and unseasoned. The miso soup had a strange sour taste to it and the agedashi tofu was lukewarm and bland. <br/><br/>I wish we’d picked somewhere else to eat. I know it’s very cheap; some people may even argue that ‘you get what you pay for’. But I remember when it was cheap AND good. Unfortunately that is no longer the case.

Just because takas is a Perth institution, just because it is cheap and always busy, does not mean I have to like it! I have eaten here many times when I was younger, but it was only when I ate at better restaurants then I realised how average the food. Lacking in taste and cooked at a backbreaking pace, it really is the Macca's of Japanese food. The Shafto lane store was better but it is shut now.
Comida
Quick, cheap and delicious food. I ordered the small Agedashi Tofu takeaway and paid $6.70- was a decent serving. Food came out quick and hot. Staff were friendly and polite. There is plenty of seating but it is usually full during peak time, free serve yourself hot tea.
Riska Apricia
My fave cheap eats in Perth. Their chicken karaage and karaage curry is so flavoursome. Big portion as well and they serve free hot tea. Perfect for a cold night

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ❗️<br/><br/>Taka is one of the Best Japanese places in the city if you ask me personally. It is also very affordable and the serving sizes are generous! <br/><br/>When I come here I always order the Karaage chicken 🍗 that comes with rice and miso soup! I would definitely recommend this as the chicken is always cooked to perfection and you can self serve yourself with different suaves. <br/>If not the chicken karaage then I would highly recommend the chicken Katsu or the Katsu don !
Karaokeangel
I used to love going here unfortunately there has been a few times where I had the karaage and it was pink inside this gave me food poisoning and made me terribly unwell it’s not like you can see if it’s cooked or not until you bite a few bites yeah so stopped going there hope others have a more positive experience

I used to visit Taka back when it was underground in the food court. I was a student back then and their meals were cheap, filling and tasty. I recently visited Taka on the corner or Barrack St and was appalled to see that the food comes slapped in the bowl with no care of presentation, the rice is dry and old, and even the sushi comes with green pickles on top?! That's a first time for me to see that. The staff all seem to be standing around talking in the kitchen too. I was disappointed to see how bad Taka has become. The teriyaki chicken and the sushi are the worst. My husband had the katsudon and he said it's just alright. I don't think I would go back again though.
Lily
Came in for the lunch special, though portion size was good (lots of rice) it lacks a bit in quality (free miso soup was nice). Can tell it was made a while ago without being stored well as the rice was a bit dry and the raw fish had a slight fishy smell. The decor is like a cafeteria with complimentary tea to help yourself to.

Known as a local favourite. If you’re a university or office worker wanting a quick meal at a budget price. Except the meals are not particularly cheap. Unless you order a small meal. And you do, it’s be better than weight-watchers with the modest serving sizes. <br/><br/>Sashimi is very thinly sliced. The rice cool, slightly gluggy. The Miso, the usual MsG mix. Noisy, simple. It may be the only place you can get Japanese for under $10. It’s amateur Japanese. Fast and simple.
Eunice
Taka is my all time favourite place to go to. I have been here many times! Efficient service with their buzzer system, attentive staff, and a restaurant with many seatings! My favourite dish is always the unagi eel rice and their chicken katsu rice. Probably the cheapest Japanese meal you can get in Perth CBD area.
Caturday
We come here a lot for cheap meals and free green tea. The katsu chicken and karaage chicken are favourites, although hit and miss as they precook large batches. So if you’re lucky, you’ll get crunchy, moreish, flavourful fried chicken. If you’re not, then it’ll be cold, oily and a bit soggy. Ah well. So far it’s been 50:50. Katsu-dons are warmed up/freshly prepared so generally better if you like hot chicken. <br/><br/>Sushi is so-so. Tempura is pleasant. Udon noodles are mediocre. Teriyaki tofu and chicken is alright. Miso Katsu chicken comes with a lovely sauce but it can be a little too salty. Most meals come with rice, shredded cabbage and pickles. The rice can be really dry so a saucier main dish is recommended if you don’t like dry rice (or use your miso soup).<br/><br/>Recently prices have gone up, and portion sizes come down, but still a good deal for the CBD. If the place is too crowded (as it usually is), I’d suggest getting takeaway and sitting in the nearby Stirling Gardens or the lawn of St Mary’s Cathedral. <br/><br/>I’m still coming here though. You should too.
Hippokathy88
Taka has always been known for their cheap price and large quantity but never quality and this was no exception. When the ramen arrived with half a solid hard-boiled egg, I knew it wasn't a good sign. Look at that sad egg, with the wavy cut marks showing, cracked yolk and all. The soup tasted like it could be shoyu based but to be honest it also tasted like there could have been 10 other different things mixed in. The teriyaki chicken was so irrelevant I had to pretend it wasn't there. Nothing was good. I repeat, n o t h i n g.<br/><br/>Think a person on a Monday morning working at a dead-end job, who hasn't a care in the world, no motivation, no energy, no personality, no love. That is this bowl of ramen right here 😠
Luka Neo
Food is very good and tasty especially considering the price! The food is very cheap for lunch and will definitely leave you feeling full. Also the setting is somewhat like a school lunch setting where you grab your food, find a seat, eat, then leave
Lamb Pickles
I absolutely love their Japanese curry with chicken karrage. The portion is ok and value for money for what you get. The portion you get with the chicken karrage meal is quite generous. This joint is perfect for students and those on a budget.
Desmond DSa
Cheap and good tasting food, that about sums this place up.<br/><br/>They offer the standard Japanese fare with really quick service. I've had quite a few dishes from here and all of them were quite tasty, I particularly liked the Ramen with chicken Karage. L<br/><br/>Oh, and did I mention, unlimited free Japanese tea! What more could you ask for? 🙂
Wulan Sucipto
The foods are nice but i have to wait for quite long time for them to come. I might choose the wrong menu. Place are not bad. Staffs are friendly

Came here the other day to relive the good Ol' uni days when Taka's was every Japanese-loving-student's favourite eating place. The agedashi tofu was my favourite, followed closely by the curry karaage. The sushi was average and the kakiage was disappointingly soggy and a waste of money. You can't really complain for what you get though, after all these years they still offer good prices for a decent-sized meal, free tea and sauces as well as fast and friendly service.
MissFoodie
Perfect place for in and out. Prices are cheap, $6 -$8 for a meal and but food tastes outstandingly good. It does get pretty busy around afternoon so make sure to grab a spot before having to sit with strangers. For the low prices, quality is pretty good even the sushi's they sell at the corner area are nice. I believe there is also a station where you can grab free tea which is lovely. Good food for an affordable price! ✔️✔️
Constantly Craving
Affordable Japanese food. <br/>Chicken karaage was good for its price and the portion was big enough for a their small size. Although, their Salmon Sashimi was cheap but the taste was not good and not fresh. They provide complimentary hot tea which is a self-serve so you may get as many cups of tea as you can.
Andri Kusmawan
Good value for money that is how I can describe this places. You can eat Japanese food with relatively cheaper price. The food in my opinion is lower quality with the regular Japanese restaurant.
J Smith
This is the perfect place if you want to be full on a budget. The food is good quality considering the very affordable price tag. It's safe and consistently tasty. The teriyakis, karaage are my go to. Service is quick and efficient. Decor is simple and functional.
Mr Robot
This corner restaurant provides quick, tasty and cheap Japanese cuisine! I have eaten here many times when I just want "in, eat and out".  Some of their large portioned meals are quite filling and I have left many times very satisfied. You get free barley(?) tea as well which really warms up the inner self and relaxes you.
Asian&#039;s Taste
Always be my fav place to take away if I am @city and lazy to cook @home. 😁😁😁<br/>Love their budget price <br/>their quality of food is not bad either😍<br/>My fav order: teriyaki beef, karage, chicken katsu and udon<br/>
Wintersolstice
Super busy and super efficient. Food is consistent and I always find something on the menu that hits the spot. So glad to find a lunchtime joint that serves good food at very reasonable prices.
DforDee
Eaten here for years and good's always great, & good value for money. As usual it's v busy during lunch time. Lots of seating spaces but you may have to share the area with strangers when it's busy. Today, I had the Karagge (fried chicken) large $8. Closest multi car park is at the Perth trainstation. Note: after ordering and paying for your food, you'll be given a disc which will alert you once it's ready. there's sauces, chilli flakes etc available on a separate table located next to the food collection.
Kario Teguh Chandra
Cheap with good quality of food. I tried the salmon sushi roll and its very fresh. The only concern i think is the ambience, lack on lighting so this place become quite gloomy.
PerthfectBreakfast
I've been going to Takas since they were located in a dingy underground Metro food court bang smack in the CBD. A small teriyaki chicken has gone up from $4.50 to $6 in about 15 years. The portion sizes remain the same but I don't think the food is as good. The teriyaki chicken is too flabby, floppy and gristly so these days I usually opt for the teriyaki tofu. Some of the cheapest sushi around Perth though.<br/><br/>Anyway, I'm off to grab a Coke Zero to counteract the MSG in my lunch. Thirsty AF.
Expat Gourmand
We are visiting Perth right this moment, and one of our first meals in Perth this visit was to Taka's Kitchen. Taka's is an old favourite that hubby and I used to frequent back when we used to live here, and we were pleased to see that it's still operating after all these years away. It served great Japanese food that was affordable for us poor students. Prices has obviously gone up in the past decade, but it is still affordable and the quality has remained more or less the same. Most sets are under AU$10.
Kudokun
Taka is a classic Japanese restaurant with simple dishes, very cheap price (average $6 for small and $8 for large rice with meat set), and big portion. Plenty of choices ranging from beef, chicken, tofu, to even sushi sets. My favorite would be the karaage chicken and fish teriyaki. With $8, you get reasonably large set of your choice of meat and big portion of rice too. Staffs are friendly and the food comes in super quick too so it's good choice for your quick lunch. They also serve free hot tea which is perfect during cold season. What about taste? They actually taste reasonably good too! Come on, you can't really complain about Taka!
Samantha Davis
Good value and nice food i like taka even though its nothing fancy but the food is nice and fresh, quick and reasonable price. I've been going to taka since i was 16 and whenever i want japanese food i always come to taka!
Adam
I've been going to Taka for their cut price Teriyaki Don since I was in year 9 (that was many, many years ago) and after all this time the price has only gone from $5 to $6! It's still the same fast food, cooked with honesty and there's still free tea and black sesame ice cream. These are all the things I need in my life. I'm set.
Laura Morgan
Our favourite takeaway and for a cheap dine in. So cheap and so tasty. Definitely our favourite in Perth. Sushi is also so fresh, can't beat it
Asha
Extremely good value for money, had the large Karaage Chicken which only $8 and comes with miso and rice. The decor isn't the nicest but if your looking for a quick cheap meal you don't really mind. The servings are generous and filling and the miso tastes great. Only down side was the Karaage...
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
I love Taka! It's s repeat offender in my dining out schedule. The place is always buzzing, the prices are very good and the food is lovely. First up, the Miso at Taka is sooooo good. I always order miso whenever we have Japanese but I think this is ni favourite. The soup is strong in flavour and goes down so easily. Plus the serving size is quite decent! I always order the Teriyaki Fish which is beautifully cooked and sweet. The Raw Tuna Sushi is always a winner too - hand rolled and melt in your mouth.
Foodie
I've always loved my 10pc caviar salmon sushi but yesterday's was the worst. Spoilt because they used avocados that has seen better days. It had gone brown. Nothing worst than an avocado that is past its use by date. Totally spoilt the taste of my sushi and ruined my lunch. My kids had teriyaki chicken sushi and egg sushi. All had brown avocado in it also. There's very few ingredients in a sushi roll, you absolutely need the freshest of ingredients. Was a very disappointing meal. It just might be awhile now before I'd go back again.

I have been a loyal Taka's fan since the early 2000's!!! The prawn tempura sushi has always been my absolute favourite in Perth!
LittleGirlBigFood
I think this Takas is a little bit nicer than the other. Wildly good value - which is a big tick. The food is fresh which is an even bigger tick!
Reynaldo
Fast, affordable, and decent japanese cuisine in the corner of barrack st. The large size is ginormous and will keep you full for a while. Tried the katsu don. Although the chicken katsu cooked well, the egg that was poured on top was not enough.<br/><br/>Good for student on budget and will definitely come back someday
The Urban Bento
It has been years since we've been to Takas but nothing has changed... not even the prices! A small katsudon (which isn't all that small) sets you back $6. And who can resist their sides when the springrolls (serve of 5) is only $2.50? Same old delicious flavour. Love the free tea and the help-yourself-to-sauces station. They just need to spruce up the decor a fraction ; )
Too Munch To Handle
Great for a cheap eat! Love the chicken karaage, for under $10 the serving size is very generous. Also love that we can help ourselves to the condiments.
Inexology
Taka Barrack St has been around for a very long time and very popular with students, CBD office workers and the backpackers community. The food has always been consistently cooked and we never found any problem with the serving. <br/><br/>The large meal at Taka always comes with a bowl of miso soup and most of the meals come under $10 price tags. The premise has a lot of seating which gets filled quite quickly especially during peak eating hours (lunch & dinner). <br/><br/>The go to meal for us is usually the karaage chicken in large portion, but there are a lot of various meals in the menu that people can choose from. These days Taka also sells some side dishes such as edamame, takoyaki and gyoza. Unlimited flow of hot tea is easily accessible for customers. I think Taka will not have any shortage of customers in the years to come.

This place is usually packed during lunch periods. And with good reason...its cheap and more importantly, tasty. <br/><br/>Large portions are indeed large. I am addicted to the chicken karrage. Lovely miso soup here
EnjoyinGodsBlessing
All time favourite is karaage!! Large serving is massive, comes with full bowl of rice and miso soup. I use mayonnaise for the salad dressing on the chicken which is a good combo :p order and pay at the counter and when it beeps u pick it up... extremely busy on lunchtime, service is still good - nothing to complaint about this place :) so scored 5/5!!
Miss Love To Eat
I arrive at 8 pm and order for chicken karaage and oyakodon. Oyakodon is sweet and so Japanese, it taste perfect. Love it. Chicken karaage portion is generous and so crunchy. Best chicken karaage and i love their salad. Taste beautiful. And they have several sauce option. My chicken karaage just go perfect with bbq sauce or sweet spicy sauce that have no name. Lol. More additon, it's cheap cheap cheap and free hot tea. Best place for Japanese food. I fill up my tummy and happy with the portion 😍 definitely going back
JO
Best Japanese place for its price - it's so cheap!! You can walk away satisfied for less than $10 every time, guaranteed. Not only is it cheap, but the food is fresh, good quality and cooked well. My favourite is the miso katsu don. They can get pretty packed around lunch times, and there is limited seating for how popular this place is, so takeaway is your safest bet.
Victoria
Such a staple cheap eat in Perth, a well worn favourite. Rare to find a place with the majority of menu items under $10 and still good quality. You can go here with a tenner and walk out with a full happy belly. Love the laidback atmosphere, almost school lunch canteen style.
Cassie
Taka is great for cheap Japanese food. I like the miso katsu don- chicken katsu with a sweet and salty sauce and is something a bit different to the usual suspects that you find at every Japanese restaurant.
Duckduckgoose
I used to love Takas when it was located in the underground food court (before that burned down). I also loved the Freo one. Maybe it was because I was a student and I appreciated the cheap food. But I don't think so. The quality is really poor now. The rice in the sushi is still warm when you get it, making the ingredients taste sort of sour. The Katsu is disgusting slop. The rice below it was awful; again a sort of sour tasting yuck permeated the dish. I used to love the sushi but now, because it isn't properly chilled or rolled, it falls apart before you can eat it. I understand they're busy but I think the quality of the food has decreased every time I've been back over the past few years.

Miso Katsu Don. Gives u The Power To Carry A Game in League Of Legends BRUHHH
Bunnymango
Yum. Cheap, tasty, not extremely authentic, nice staff, nice tea :)
Donovan De Souza
Its flavour is decidely sweeter and less complex than most Miso and Tonkotsu broths but still tasty, and recalls for me the Asian-style Chicken Macaroni Soup I ate in my youth. Finally, the no-frills toppings include Taka's good but not particularly noteworthy Teriyaki Chicken, and a plain boiled egg with a fully set yolk. Good for emergencies and the budget conscious, but not by any means an essential bowl.
Lyv To Eat
Taka's kitchen, the affordable, quick and delicious Japanese restaurant. This was, in fact, the first restaurant I visited after I came back. The special someone in my life, Mr. T, has just donated blood on Easter Sunday and was famished. I usually go to Nao or Dosukoi for excellent ramen, but he convinced me that he has tried Taka's kitchen ramen, which was only a few minutes walk away, and it was on par. So I, equally as famished although ashamed to say I did not donate any blood, agreed to give it a try. Ramen with Chicken Karaage ($9) I was surprised by the price of their ramen, only $9 including chicken karaage! I was even more surprised when I started eating the ramen, the soup was thick and rich in flavour! Every slurp was heavenly. I would still prefer Nao's ramen, but this was certainly not far behind in quality and flavour. I also really like the fact they included egg in their ramen as I've often wondered why other ramen places in Perth choose not to. Miso Katsu Don - Large ($7.50) A regular dish I order at Taka's kitchen is their miso katso don. By regular I mean this was the only dish I order at Taka's (the ramen has changed all that now). A chicken katsu is always a winning dish, but then add thick miso flavoured sauce on top of it and you have yourself perfection in a bowl! If you have never tried it then I urge you to do so. Takoyaki ($3.50/5 piece) Last but not least, we also ordered their relatively new side-dish, takoyaki. The takoyaki was delicious and perfectly cooked, but it was missing the usual toppings of dried bonito, spring onion, takoyaki sauce and mayonaise, which I guess is fair enough considering the price. I have always enjoyed eating at Taka's kitchen and would regularly crave their food. Well I was glad Mr. T convinced me to come here again! I would rate Taka's kitchen 7.5/10. I pity the fool who hasn't tried Taka's kitchen ramen! PS: It's Mr. T because he's Tall! Restaurant Info: Taka's Kitchen 150-152 Barrack St Perth Ph: 08 9221

Weekly spender. Since walking past and always seeing th le masses of oriental and westerners flooding through the doors I decided to have a gander.<br/>5$ for small size and 7.20$ for large including miso (homemade I assume) free green tea urn and plenty of side sauces for free. not many single tables and is much like a diner with long tables and everyone respects ever one else's privacy. brilliant place to go for a quick service and decent sized priced meals.. will be continuing to eat here and have been since early last year
Danikurama
Cheap, filling and good!. It's been quite often for me now to eat at Taka these days in Perth as it offers dishes for a very reasonable price. The large portions might fill everyone's stomach and for only 7.80 (for the majority of dishes). Right now I'm going there to have lunch.
Jenny Tsen
Food is nice. Service is quick. $5.80 for a small Chicken karage with rice & cabbage salad. Is a good price for a quick meal with crispy chicken. Still a nice place to go...!
DoinKerS
Good Price Good Servings. Been a regular to Takas. Always a good option for lunch, with a good serving for a great price. Can't go wrong with the teriyaki Don, katsu don, chicken katsu or the karaage. Not a fan of the takas Japanese curry however
Peli Can
Cheap and fresh. Cheap, nice, fresh and like ordinary Japanese foods. under-priced but same quality.
Nixi Loves Food
Chicken Katsudon (and not limited to) is spot on every single time without exception. I can hardly believe that a restaurant in Perth can continually produce good, tasty food at such a reasonable price....but the proof is here, it can be done and I shall remain a loyal customer.
Baristar
One of my favs. Love this place. taka is always good for a cheap feed. love their ramen soup. so cheap and so good :)
Food 2 Run
Fab!!!. Busy day and called into this place in the city to get take away, top notch... Great service miso was amazing and chicken curry just fab....wish all Japanese places were like this... Great Stuff be back again soon...
Robyn
Thoroughly recommend. Fantastic food at great pricing. Service is quick. Miso is the best in Perth.<br/><br/>Nothing to fault, good job guys!
Michele
Great value for money. Portion sizes are enough to fill you up. Love the tofu varieties.
Mitchmitch
Really good Japanese food. Have been eating here for years since they were a small shop in a food hall on Murray street. Never disappointed. They don't have eftpos facilities.
Snorlax
Great Food!. I've become a regular at Taka due to the fantastic food and excellent prices. It's almost impossible to get a table during peak times, which says a lot: if its always busy, they must be doing something right! I highly recommend the Potato Cakes or the terriaki beef burger. Perfect for lunch! The restaurant is vibrant and noisy, so not great for a romantic dinner, rather it caters to international students, backpackers and city-dwellers due to it's very reasonable prices and tasty food. I have never had a bad dinner here, and I've eaten at Taka a LOT ! The service is fast and cheerful, and the tables are wiped down and cleared within seconds. Be aware: it's cash only: no card facilities. This is astounding in 2014, but it makes the flow of customers a lot faster. All up, if you are in town and fancy inexpensive, delicious Japanese for lunch or dinner, you cant go wrong with Taka's
Katie Nguyen
Don't like. The first time I went to try food here was horrible as my friends have stated. The miso soup was bland - miso soup is relatively easy to make
DG
The food is nice, worth the money. Just hate getting dragged here by cheapskate friends who don't want to pay $10/$12 a dish in China Town.
Tuna
3RD TIME NEG.... EATERS, BEWARE OF THIS PLACE...<br/><br/>IT IS MORE THAN WHAT YOU BARGAIN FOR ..
Rdx
Good cheap food. Taka isn't the best quality food in town but for what it looses in quality it more than makes up for in price and quantity. The cheap, served hot and in large portions. Always a sure thing :)
Dee
Fast. Cheap. Tasty.
Cyclone X
Cheap and good. As its title suggests the meals are generous for the price you pay. Not very authentic but still considered a pleasant eat-out in Perth CBD
Simple
Cheap (for Perth) and cheerful. Crisp chicken karaage + free green tea = perfect lunch.
Tren
Value for Money. This place is always packed. Nearly every time I've been I've had to share a table but I don't mind that. It's pretty rare to find somewhere in Perth with a decent serving size, tastes good and is under $10. Need a quick tasty meal, Taka is where you should head.
I Like To Eat
Great cheap food. You come here when you want a cheap filling meal that tastes good. Its not fancy or anything but the food hits the spot for me and keeps me coming back. I always come back for the katsu don because it is the cheapest I have ever seen it and also tastes great.
Matthew
Very tasty food. For me it's fine dining at its best. Great restaurant to propose to your wife at. Staff were happy to place the ring amongst the chicken peices for a crunchy surprise. green tea was of excellent quality. Need to put evenore chairs and tables in the one rectangular room.
Darren
Great value. Cheap and cheerful, but better than you'd expect for the price.<br/>Plus, all the green tea you can drink.<br/>Place is a little unruly at times and doesn't have the polish of a restaurant, but for the price, you can't complain. Does get noisy, though.<br/>Service is alright.
TAii KOrnwara
Yummy and cheap!!
Perth Eater
Good cheap eat. Taka has become the lunch time favourite of many in the city and for good reson too. The food is cheap and good. Nothing fancy but who cares when you can get a cheap fast good tasting meal.
Vincent Wong
Terriyaki Beef was a disaster. Well overcooked but still value for money
Little Food Adventures
Really worth it :). Food is great<br/>Rice is well cooked<br/>I come here multiple times when in need of a quick fill up of the empty stomach<br/>for less then 6 dollars I get a small (very generous) meal of Miso Katsu Don and must i say the food wasn't bland nor cold<br/>I mean i was pretty satisfied since I didnt expect much paying so little for a meal <br/>..also, should i mention they have free tea :) (although it would be nice to have some free water)<br/>Great Value !! <br/>I come here often and service is great (note one thing; it gets really busy at midday so I suggest having it take away rather than dine in)
Amanda Tomas
Great teryaki Chicken. Stayed at Medina next door went in for a meal as recommended, and the food was cheap, fast and tasty !!! will be back next time to perth <br/>thanks for a great meal
Naomi Nation
Ms Naomi Nation. This is my very favourite restaurant. It is inexpensive fast food but incredibly healthy. Portion sizes are perfect-cheaper than any fast food restaurant in Australia and never quiet-always a line when it opens at 11am.<br/>I would buy shares if this place had franchises. Taka taka demonstrates it is possible for meals to be healthy, proper portion sizes and as cheap as McDonalds.
Contessa.Eats
You pay for what you get - cheap and nasty.
Christos Evangel
Taka me somewhere else!. Well i guess all I can say is what you pay for is what you get. I ordered the teryaki chicken for lunch and was served a ridiculously large portion of undercooked rice, topped with some overcooked, dry and rather tasteless chicken. Better off paying the extra 2$ somewhere else to get an edible meal!

Ummm.....really??. If your food comes out before you've had a chance to find a table there is no way in the world it is fresh. I left after two mouthfuls.

Good value for money, with tasty food and efficient service. My favourite dishes are the Teriyaki Fish and the Japanese-style curries. A standard large main dish costs $7.30.

Cheap and cheerful Food .... Cheap and cheerful <br/><br/>Food is usually good quality, sometimes average but for some fast food that isn't McDonalds it's great. Fast service, cheap prices and varied menu. Long queue at lunch rush but service is still quick and meals are made within minutes

Yuck. Food was very chewy and gross.<br/>Spend more elsewhere for better food.

Cheap and cheerful!. Sunday September 2 3pm - 5pm<br/><br/>Love the quick service of meals<br/>Love the tasty flavours of the Japanese basics<br/>Love the free tea offering<br/>Love the amazing prices<br/>Love the kitchen being open all day!<br/>Parking can be a pain... <br/>Loathe the inadequate space for lining up when its super busy

Cheap and delicious. Don't come expecting 5 star quality - the food is cheap and the food is good. Free sauces and unlimited tea to boot, 'nough said.

Best Food. This one of the best jap food in perth and best of all very cheap

Yum... Oil?. It seems like every time I got the Tori Karage, it tasted extremely oily and bland. I suppose it is good... if you like cheap food, but for me it wasn't worth it, it was mainly rice. I would like more sides and flavour please! I will try again because I'm a poor, hungry uni student.

Cheap and Great Location. Will always come here because of the cheap price, not bad tasted unagi don, and easy to find location.
Slowfoodcook
Old favourite. This place has been around forever and while the prices have gone up a little, it's still worth it portion wise and in terms of the tasty meter. Quick and efficent too!
Powlin
Yes. The service is really quick, the food is good, and prices are correct!! Perfect for a quick and cheap meal!!
Sarah
Good if you like cheap tasting food. I used to love coming here, although the quality of food has really gone down hill. I would rather pay a few extra bucks for fresh authentic Japanese food

Quick Filling And Tasty. This Takas is as quick, filling, and tasty as the Shafto Lane place - the only difference is that it is closer to the train station / Northbridge and it is usually more full of students and backpackers because of the location. I come here quite often and order a bendo box, drink the free tea, and always end up leaving too full to move for a cost of about $10.

Perth's Finest for Value. Let's face it, there is no other restaurant in Perth offering as much value as Taka. Where else can you get lunch for under $6? Fresh Japanese food: sushi, sashimi, tempura, and assorted udon soups. If you are really hungry, go for a large size but be prepared to shell out a whopping $7. If you are rich you can have a massive plate of sashimi for $11. The tea is free. Only downside is the place is generally packed with customers, so plan ahead.

While so many others restaurants offers small servings with ridiculous prices, Taka's the place where you can stuff you face and still have some bucks left in your pocket.

Great place to fill up on an empty wallet.. As a uni student with an almost empty wallet, a friend of mine recommended we try Taka, and I was keen to give it a try. And I'm glad I did, not only was the food cheap and affordable enough, it was delicious, and there was enough to fill my stomach. The orders went quickly which was fortunately surprising. Not the best interior, but overall, a great place to just chill and enjoy a meal.

Gone Downhill. The food has gone downhill here so much! I used to love Taka and would frequently visit it a couple of years ago to get good chicken katsu at a great price. A few weeks ago I ordered chicken katsu, thinking I would get the same quality I enjoyed previously. Firstly, mountains of BBQ sauce was put all over the chicken and rice. As I detest BBQ sauce and had not been asked whether I had wanted some on my chicken (and had eaten there previously many times never to have BBQ sauce on my meal) I informed them politely that I do not care for BBQ sauce and didn't realise I would get it on my food. All I got was blank looks. I decided to bear it, but ended up having to throw away more than half of the chicken as it was just fat, and looked and tasted completely inedible. Yes it is $5 - $8 for a meal, but for the same price I would head to Zensaki on Barrack street for great chicken katsu and way better food!

Cheap student food.. Good service, cheap yummy noodles but the sushi isn't any good compared to the other options in the area (zensaki, jaws , iku and star)

Delicious, cheap and so quick! We had the teriyaki beef and a deep fried chicken dish along with tuna and California sushi rolls. It was mega busy but we still only waited 5 mins for our meal. Everything was so yummy and I highly recommend the teriyaki beef. Will defiantly be returning soon!

Rice Bowl Heaven. Oh how I miss my Taka. I used to eat here on a very regular basis due to their reasonable prices and large quantities (I was a backpacker at the time). Sometimes it could get a little busy around peak times but please - wait! It will be worth it. I loved that table next to the dining area, and its amazing variety of sauces. I am sure Taka's high standards have remained and I hope to return one day.

Cheap, fast and filling. The karrage and Katsu chicken are to die for. Love the fact that you don't have to wait 10-20mins for the food to be ready. And for a reasonable price too!
Titsellina
Great food, fast and cheap. Favourites are black sesame icecream, vegie tempura, katsu chicken, sushi rolls and miso soups
Eleanor
Best place ever. Always quick, always tasty and always cheap. Beef teriyaki never fails to impress. Love it.
Josie
Avoid the rush... if you can. I enjoy my Taka's for lunch, but boy, does it get packed! Try and avoid the 12:30pm - 1pm slot.<br/><br/>Taka's is pretty cheap, tasty and usually well prepared. I have had overcooked teriyaki beef a couple of times, but this is just another reason to avoid the lunch time rush. When they're not pumping things out frantically it's always good.

Order brought out to u faster than mcdonalds, what more could you ask for from a quick lunch.. Amazing speed, but u can tell that u get what u pay for. Still worth it if ur after something cheap, fast and filling!
Delizioso
Garlic Much?. Wayyy too much garlic/ginger. Don't come here for lunch if you have afternoon meetings with cients, I was burping for the rest of the afternoon!<br/><br/>Never before had a Japanese 'salad' with nothing but (hugely) sliced iceberg lettuce, wft? Cheap and nasty. Don't be such a stinge and spend a couple more bucks at Nao down the road for a much better meal.
Angela
Fast and cheap. Title says it all. Fast service + cheap Japanese food + Big meal.. well enough to fill you up. The End.

Taka best food-price in area. Freshly prepared good quality very good price for Perth. Really like Taka's Kitchen great value.
Federica Nucci
Wonderful chicken!!! Cheap and great value!

I love taka...very cheap, and good atmosphere...very busy little restaurant. If you go for lunch an are planning on eating in, don't plan on getting a table to yourself, but that is part of it's charm :) Having gone in many times, me and whoever I am with have ended up on a table with other people, but it is expected so it is never too awkward. $7 for a delicious and SUPER filling feed with free green tea, who could complain?
Benjamin
Delicious food, not greasy, perfectly balanced out. Friendly fast service , and cheap. Love their miso soup
Linda
Love the karage meal the most!
Stephnay
Cheap & Tasty. Perfect for students low on cash in need of a quick and nutritious meal.
Gourmandius
Cheap & cheerful. Cheap & Japanese food is really an oxymoron as the freshness & quality of the ingriedients are a very large determinant of the japanese dining experience. That said, the teriyaki fish wasn't bad.
IMHO
Slick fast food.... The setup of Taka's is slick and efficient. <br/>Food was cheap and tasty. Staff were friendly and fast. <br/>The order/pickup/sauce table system they have works well.
Nantoka
I love this place, great value! Amazing chicken miso katsu. Miso soup is a bit pathetic, could fo with some more stuff in it. This is the best Taka out of the three.
Spoonmaster
Good quality well priced Japanese.
AceFace
Do you like teriaki fish?. I very much like teriaki fish. At Taka's, it is moist and tasty and there is always enough sauce to cover the rice and that makes me happy . . . .
Peter
Cheap, tasty, Japanese food. What more could you want? Gets quite busy at lunchtime!
Shiau Cheng
This place is packed with people and noisy during lunch hour. It is a place for a quick lunch but definitely not a place for you to enjoy a long chat with your friends. By saying that, other customers are actually standing beside you waiting for your seats, which makes you feel uncomfortable to stay any longer. However, for budget travelers who are bored with cold sandwiches, Taka might be an ideal place for some cheap hot food, not to
Hungryagainperth
The place is always really busy with all sorts of customers, but despite the fact that it can be hard to get a table, the turnover is extremely fast. On top of that, the meals are ready in no time at all. It's crazy quick. Order, sit down, get some tea and then your buzzer already goes crazy. It's a very efficient system set up, where it's all a very non fuss eatery - you go in, you eat, you go out.
Foodie Cravings
I had a craving for Taka's Kitchen today so despite knowing there would be a huge line and the wait would be awhile, I headed over during peak hour lunch to order my usual teriyaki chicken don. The teriyaki chicken don is nothing special and really a comfort meal you would cook at home but for $5.30, I think it's pretty good. Plus, it was exactly what I felt like - something light that feels 'healthy enough' . What I'm most happy with today is that I remembered to ask Taka's to leave the cabbage out - I normally forget and spent the first few minutes picking it all out…cursing that I would remember to ask for it without next time! So being able to get straight into my meal was wonderful Note - there's cabbage in the pic above, I had taken this pic last time I was at Taka's, I was too hungry to take a snap shot of my take-away teriyaki don today. I've also had the teriyaki fish which is really yummy, the fish just melts in your mouth and the teriyaki flavour isn't too intense, the onl
