First time here with couple friends for lunch. Sitting outdoor and the venue was still quiet despite lot of people there on Sunday. The beers selection was good and the food choices were average. Overall a great meal with fresh air we have been waiting for. A minor comment would be on two orders of taco seemed not very consistent. Obviously something was missing in one order and look a bit different.
Love the ambience here especially in the mornings, the staff is always friendly and jovial and definitely love the menu and the variety in it. Usually tend to have the farmhouse brekkie along with blood pudding cause I love a big breakfast, also would recommend the waygu melt breakfast. Have also had the sharing platters here which you can comfortably share with 3 people ,which has little of everything. in the evenings it gets crowded and it has great lively atmosphere especially when they have their promotions and sporting events going on. what they could try though is try to some specials which are creative and different.
Had steak with chips during the week. Great pub food and good value for money. Generally packed on the weekends. Ambiance is good as well (outdoor and indoor eating area)
Went with friends on a busy Saturday night.
Service was exceptional and food was brilliant as always.
Couldn't fault it at all
Will be back.
Nice family restaurant. Love its pork belly, crispy outside and soft inside, cook to perfect and alway have this dish here. and they have Asian fusion pizza, and free drink on bday. Good restaurant in the area,
Love the atmosphere and overall food is great especially the new steak sandwich. Staff always very pleasant. BUT $12 for a Matsos ginger beer is insane!!!
Great laid back atmosphere and reasonably priced food. Bean here a few times before and this time didn't disappoint. Beef and reef was really good and would recommend. Staff were really helpfull and not over attenrive. A good night was had by all.
Great atmosphere and service
We have been here quite a few times and both myself and my wife always order the steak and ribs. You can request either chips and salad or vegetables .
I am very particular on how my Steak is cooked (med rare) and it always comes out just right. The servings are perfect -not being too small or too big (this is obviously very subjective). The service is normal i.e. food tends to be brought out around 15 to 25 mins after you place your order. Try the upstairs area for a bit of privacy or for a less noisy atmosphere. One of our favourites.
We came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the steak sandwich x2. We had heard they were amazing and I can now tell you that firsthand! Their 'melt' beef is tender and juicy, totally delicious! Service was fantastic, we never had to ask for a drink and were well looked after. Would definitely recommend
Great meal at C.Y. O'Connor. It was nice and quiet on a Wednesday night and we walked in and were seated straight away. Service was excellent and our waitress was very prompt to offer fresh drinks and take away plates.
The food was delicious; personal recommendations are the dips plate, the buttermilk chicken burger and the melt beef satay skewers. The chocolate brûlée was a bit runny but otherwise very good.
Have to take points away for inaccuracies in the menu. The buttermilk chicken burger was not advertised as having cheese on it, but came with a cheese slice in the middle and had to be sent back.
What a big, beautiful gem! We had a late Sunday lunch with some friends. Staff were friendly and quick to serve at the bar. We sat outside in the courtyard under a gorgeous shady tree. I'm happy to pay for quality but I've gotta say, the drinks were pricey! Food was more expensive than your average pub but the servings they give you are totally worth it and taste delicious too! Every one of us enjoyed our meals. Only thing that would have been nice is a water bowl for the ribs. I look forward to coming back and checking out some of the share platters!
Friday night dinner with mum. The place was packed and often is. Service was friendly and we were pre warned of a 40 min wait for food, which I think is really professional. Better to be honest!
We shared the antipasto board which had a good mix of nibbles and tasted good but the bread was a little tough.
For mains I had the Thai chicken salad which was enormous, loaded with absolutely amazing tasting chicken. I was really enjoying it but kept getting this insane heat in my nose and mouth - eventually worked out there was wasabi in the dressing, super strange for a Thai salad!!!
Mum had the melt platter and raved about the curry and side steak.
Pretty impressed for pub food!!
Hawthorndene lamb $32.50
CRISPY buttermilk chicken burger $23.90, chips was good but sauce is a bit yuck
Flat white in a mug. ..for this cool and wet weather.
Very busy local pub with good service.
Consider pub food, not a bad place to visit.
A little on the pricey side for some items, but all meals ordered on my table were fantastic. Would recommend the veal schnitzel with mash and greens, I though that was great. Others on my table had the rump steak and a pizza and there were no complaints with any of the food. Service was friendly and efficient which was nice to see as that was something I was concerned about after reading other reviews. Overall a nice little pub with decent food, will be back to try something else soon.
Went for lunch today as part of a birthday celebration. Overall the experience was enjoyed by all. I had the VG steak sandwich which i enjoyed but was disappointed to find out they didnt have the Wagyu beef version of the steak sandwich available. Everyone else generally enjoyed their meals and would consider it fairly standard pub fair, nothing more, nothing less. The score may of been higher had the Wagyu been available as advertised on the menu.
This is a great family style pub. Lots of shade outside under the trees or verandah. The food is delicious and with their current meal specials (check out the website) makes for a very reasonable lunch out. Our only complaint was with the young red headed waitress. She took great offence to the fact that we made our order at the bar and didn't wait for her return. The reason we did this was we were with a large group and wanted seperate billing. Her abrupt attitude and scathing tongue made for a bitter sweet experience. I think she would be better suited working at the establishment down the road, Hotel Maximum Security Prison, where I am sure her tough handed approach would go down well with their 'customers'.
On our 34th anniversary on 28th of February 2016, my husband took me to this pub for dinner. I LOVE beef and Guinness pie. If there is one on the menu I find it very hard to go past. I can tell you I've tried Beef and Guinness pies from near and far and not all pies are alike. In actual fact few leave a lasting happy memory for me. I mean some are ok and some are quite disappointing, few are really great, but still I have to have them. This particular pie I enjoyed very much. I have to admit it didn't wow me but rather amused me with it's presentation.. like a pie marooned on a bed of potato, with a sea of gravy with peas swimming in it. I have to admit it didn't wow me but rather amused me with it's presentation, but the taste is the most important thing and I score it in the top three of the many pies I have sampled over the years. The pastry was nice and flaky, Also impressing both myself and my husband, who ordered the same, was the fact that it had a top and a bottom, so a pie in the true sense. The meat was tender and tasty and no gristle, which is great. The gravy was rich and delicious, the peas were nice, the potato was well mashed and very tasty too. A very nice meal at a very reasonable price. If I were to suggest improvements, more veg.. that's about it.
We were lucky enough to have a quiet corner in which to eat and the temperature was nice so were neither too hot nor too cold. The service was very good and all staff were very friendly. We're going back there tonight with my family for a farewell dinner for my visiting mother.
Decent pub food in a modern environment but a bit on the pricey side. Quiet on the weekdays and easy going enough place to bring the whole family.
Really lovely place!
The beer garden is huge, with a pizza oven so you can see and smell your fresh pizza been made and served in proper pizza box ( easy to take away if you can't manage it all as it's massive!).
Food is lovely, not too badly priced and there are lots of dishes and types of food to choose from.
Pub itself is a nice size with lots of seating plus huge beergarden.
Love this place, good atmosphere, great staff on a Saturday and usually good food.Would have rated higher except there's been a few let downs lately.Have tried the food many times.
Steak sandwich with cajun fries $24.90. This really is the best one around.Good steak, nice balance of everything.
traditional fish & chips $23.90.Tried this once about 2 months ago and been scared to ever try again as there was so much oil on my plate-see photos.I had to sit my fish on the side plate on napkins to soak up the oil.The taste could have been good but oil was saturated through the fish.
Arancini (pumpkin,feta & cashew) $13.50. Very filling,6 pieces i think,can't taste the pumpkin but that's good for me.Not gluggy.
Chicken Salad-no longer on menu. Was an outstanding dish, though slightly heavy on dressing, but would have eaten again & again if menu hadn't changed.Visually beautiful.
Chicken Parmigiana $28.90. Nothing special, not bad but not memorable. No flavour in the crumb which you need as chicken breast is bland if not seasoned/marinated.(Eat one at "The Quarie" instead).
Tomato/Onion tart $22.50. Ate a few months ago.Actually very tasty, looks small but was filling enough. It was not heated through though, very lukewarm and pastry was soft as if it was microwaved.Maybe it was meant to be soft but it was a letdown.
Cajun chips-always tasty but frequently are not being served hot. They must leave them sitting around to get cold.We eat around 11:30-12:00 each time when it isn't very busy- the timing of the cook seriously needs improving.
Pizza, ham & pineapple special $18 i think? on Saturday 3rd Oct.Woodfired .Looked good, great size but no good.Very sparse toppings, sauce bland. The crust around the edge tasted nice but the base was all floppy with no crispiness.Overpriced for what it was and NOT special at all.
Would love it if they put some sort of chicken burger on the menu-a staff member once asked the cook if they would put a piece of chicken parmagiana on a bread roll and they refused. Nevermind...one day.
I come here regularly and food is usually fantastic and always presented beautifully.Their beef dishes are outstanding. My rating is for their usual menu but not for the following dish. They had a Special of King George Whiting for $37 (i think?) with chips and salad. Was very reluctant to spend so much on fish but must have been in a good mood.
I thought the serving was very small-the photos actually make it look bigger than it was-like one of those trick mirrors!
To me it was hugely overpriced for what it was-but i'm not an expert so maybe someone can tell me if $37 seems reasonable for what it was?
p.s. aioli delicious
Saturday lunch.. Called in for a quick bite. I had a steak sandwich? My wife had a burger with bacon. Both good for the money, two empty plates, fast service even though it was busy.
No complaints at all.
Pizzas were great, tasting platters
were ok not the greatest value for money though. Good alfresco area for an afternoon drinking session though!
After reading a review that this place was voted the best pub burger place for 2015 needed to check it out.. Well the judges hit the nail on the head, great burger with size and serving, staff super and really can't fault it. If you love burger check thid place out..
Local Pub. Nothing flash but a great place to have a sunday drink and dinner with the kids. The food is fine.
Best burger. Despite previous reviews and a rather low rating, I would definitely return to CYs. The burger, fries and staff were all worthy of a repeat visit :)
Great food. Malaysian curry and vege burger. Service by Ian was excellent. Nice atmosphere.
Acceptable pub food. Not the best I've been to but good enough that I'll return. My first visit and 7 of us were in the party. Service was friendly but a little slack. I ordered a pizza which only came when everyone else was already halfway through their meal, and even then, I had to get up and ask the waiter to get it. When it came I enjoyed it - it was good. Everyone else enjoyed their meal most having the ribs, one having the burger, and the other having the prawns. We sat for a long time and the waiters never came near us until eventually we called them and asked for the dessert menu.
Overall a good meal.
Love this place. Love the tasty food, friendly staff, atmosphere, our kids love it too.
Haven't been here for a while as was disappointed last time. Heard there was a revamped menu so thought we would give it a try. Went for lunch I had the spinach and beef curry which was served with rice, raita, dhal and chutney. Very yummy and a generous portion. Prices are about average for a pub/bistro overall was impressed would go back again.
Ordered the ribs and a steak sandwich. Both came out within 10 mins, both were excellent and had the beer battered chips. Very happy with the food and service
Cajun chicken burger and the steak sandwich are great. Also the bruschetta was good but I think it's better during the week then on the weekend. Great Service and very clean :-)
Thoughly enjoyed my experience at this venue the food came out quickly very nice and the staff were very friendly and polite I'll be back for sure
Better Option. Out of all the Pubs around Canning Vale, CY O'Connor Pub shines above the rest. Its big, its bold and pronounced. Meals are usually decent pub grub. I had the Cajun Chicken Burger with Wedges. The Burger was simple, yet effective. The wedges were a little salty, but ill forgive you this time as the dipping sauce was spicy and delightful. The Sunday roasts here are usually worth the money and is a great option with 25% off with the entertainment book voucher. Service was good and I Will be back. Until next time ... 6.5/10.
Food was delicious and service was great. The beef and Guinness pie wasn't anything like others I've had. The stew was rich and the meat was tender. My husband had the steak burger and said it was better then what he gets at his favorite place in Subi.
Perhaps the staff were having a good night, but I really enjoyed my visit to the village pub. We were seated in a booth no problems, received a bottle of water and two glasses without prompt, order taken smoothly and the food was great!
As other orders came out I closely watched as they appeared very impressive. I was not disappointed by the duck I ordered. It was tender and delicious. Our drinks could have arrived swifter but they still found their way to us.
The prices are perhaps a wee bit steep but with an entertainment book voucher quite reasonable.
The staff went above and beyond when my car remote battery died. They performed 'surgery' on it in an attempt to repair but we had the wrong replacement battery type. The staff really impressed with their efforts to help out and take care of us.
I look forward to returning again soon (and next time not just with a new car remote but a new car all together!)
The first meal I had here last year was impressive ! Wanted to keep going back for more .... Had the same meal here on boxing day and wasnt pleased with it at all , left most of it on my plate and counted my losses . It was a really hot day I give them that but the effort still just wasn't there . My first meal was at dinner and second was a lunch maybe this had something to do with it . Will try again in the future just to be sure . Either way it's a quite and pleasant place to go to that is fairly close .
Food was nice with fare prices although not much variety on the menu... Kid friendly
Good place for lunch. We shared a Cajun Chicken Burger which was really yummy - nice bread and fresh salad and really nice flavour. It came with wedges which were also fresh and tasty. Customer service could be a bit friendlier but it wasn't too bad.
Friendly and attentive waitstaff. Ordered Fettuccine Diablo, which was excellent and very reasonably priced ($25). Will be coming back for sure!
Had the grilled barra and sweet potato... Was awesome!!! Big thumbs up will be bringing my husband back to this one.
Great new manager they have got down there, very friendly and prompt service. I eat there at least once a week sometimes up to three. Never been disappointed. Recommend the place big time.
Excellent Food!. Can't give the food here enough praise, its a stones throw away from my house and the food is great, service is good, not sensational but good enough, i would recommend this place to anyone anytime!
Went for dinner, they took their time serving us and then the meal took for ever to come out, but the food was good. Overall a nice pub with good food and a good selection of deserts.
Satisfied. Went out as a party of six with two kids and all were satisfied with their meals. The kids chose from the kids menu, fish and chips served tempura battered in strips and chicken nuggets and chips, both meals were finished off in good time, getting the seal of approval, the meal included dessert, a well presented ice cream sundae. The adults ordered the Saturday specials, Tangy BBQ pork ribs on wedges with coleslaw, and fish off the day Salmon steak with an interesting dressing and salad serving. All thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the friendly service. Will be back again for sure.
Staff party.. Was a pleasant enough place to sit down and have a meal.
Flavours were good, portion sizes a little over the top, but nothing to complain about here.
Value.
Good. I think this place is great if you live in the local area. It's big, and inside there is table service. I found the servers really friendly and honest. We walked in and they were honest about the time which was accurate, and when my boyfriend asked the server's opinion about the burgers she was honest that she'd never had it. That's fair play if she started there or whatnot because when I worked in a pub, I had never eatened there.
Anyway, down to the grub. We ordered the bruscetta as an entree. It was good except they put on half cherry tomatoes on it which made it too chunky to eat. I tried, but it was a struggle. I wish they quartered them or something. The underlining bread was good.
I had the chicken parm, and my boyfriend had the beef burger. The chicken parm was good except it did not have enough sauce but when I asked for more - no problem. They warmed it up and sent it out quick sharp. My boyfriend's burger was average.
As we live about 15-20 mintues away, we probably won't be going back in the near future. HOWEVER, if you're in the area, definitely give it a go. The outdoor area looks like it'd be amazing during the summer afternoons. The chicken parm is definitely better than our local pub but apparently the beef burger has hard competition!
Will drop back if we're in the neighbourhood. :)
Great meal with the entertainment book .... We ate here for lunch on a Friday last week. We were seated promptly and our order taken within 20 minutes or so.
I ordered surf and turf, my husband had the village green scotch steak. The garlic sauce with the surf and turf was excellent, the steak cooked well and tender, not enough 'surf' for my liking ... 4 prawns for $41. The salad and chips were very good.
The scotch was a little on the tough side and my husband was disappointed with a lack of salad on his plate.
We were too full for dessert but we weren't offered dessert or coffee when we'd finished either.
We used the entertainment voucher which gave one meal free with another meal purchased. The total with a small bottle of champers and a pint of beer was about $55. Without the voucher I wouldn't have chosen either meal due to the pricing which I thought was pretty high for pub food. The surf and turf was $41 and the scotch fillet was $37.50.
Overall, with the benefit of the entertainment voucher the meal was great. Had I paid full price, I would probably have felt less impressed.
Wicked. Been to "the CY" a heap of times now, great service, great menu, love the Paddock to Plate policy for their beef!
The sports bar is gret to go and have a bit of a punt on a weeknight or weekend while munching on one of the best Steak sandwiches I have ever had.
Looking forward to a few sunday Sesh's this summer too, the garden bar is quite spacious and well set out.
We've been here 5 times and have had no complaints about the food or service. A bit over priced but the same as everywhere else. Noisy on a saturday night. Wednesday night kids eat free
Great steak, pasta and chicken parma!
Not at all bad!. Just had dinner here, food was good, service was good, was a bit noisy due to hundreds (well maybe not quite hundreds!) of small children but all-in-all was quite acceptable. DH's steak was done just as he likes but I do not like restaurants serving those cheap vannamei prawns on the surf'n'turf and still charging big bucks ($41.00)!! Get real guys, they are so obvious! That was a bit of a rip-off . Also did not like skin on my chicken breast and a bit of the bony wing sticking out but was still a tasty meal. The dessert fridge was 'to die for', I have never seen anything like it...anywhere...ever! It is all made on site by the chef!! Wine is not too expensive but you expect to pay a bit more for a licensed venue. Would rate 7.5 out of 10 and enjoyable.
Love the Local. Been there probably 15times as its walking distance, excellent food and great service. You will need to book as they are always booked out.
Finally a good pub meal in perth. still a bit expensive compared to the rest of australia but the ive had in perth so far
Excellent steaks, great menu that is likely to appeal to most. Super friendly staff too!
As we were in the area we decided to drop into C Y O'Connor Village Pub for a mid week lunch. We settled on a table near the fire inside as it was a little cold, for us, to sit in the alfresco area. There were a few people eating in the restaurant when we arrived, although this...
This is the best Steak sandwich I've ever eaten! Worthy winner of the 2021 Australian Hotel Association WA award for best Steak sanga. The bread is amazing and the Steak magnificent. The Shroom burger was also a delight. Will definitely be back!
Great to see the beer garden up and running again after the fire.
Lots of tables and plenty of room. Simplified CY O'Connor's menu available plus a burger menu which are delivered from the place next door. We ordered from both menus and all meals were good and very filling.
Friendly and prompt service from behind the bar 👍
It was a lovely close by pub that welcomed us for a family New Year celebration. A great, casual ambience with plenty of space. We were seated indoor. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Patient, too, as we couldn't really decide what to order. Yes, plenty to select from, the usual pub food and plenty of drink selections. Our orders came quite timely and they were delicious. I had only hoped that my coleslaw wasn't bitter... A big portion , I must say, but worth the price. I recommend this pub.
Great local pub for a meal with the toddlers. The beef steak sandwich was excellent, but the pork rib was mediocre. Servings are generous. Asked for spare plates which came with scraps dried onto the plate.. not a deal breaker but not ideal either. The playground is tucked away in the corner and may be out of view unless seated nearby.
Fairly standard Gastro pub when comparing to Blasta.
Good for families. Good atmosphere on a Sunday lunch time.
Good menu with normal pub prices.
Our table ordered food and drinks....my Pork ribs were moist but just lacked flavour. Had better at many other places. Just average.
Would I come back? Yes, when im in the area visiting relatives...though other watering hole options are available in Piarra waters/Canning Vale.
Awesome venue, when you think of a pub you don't get a venue like this one, very nice layout with a beer garden, multiple bars & seated dining section. Have been before to try their amazing steak sandwich 👌👌 This time tried their pulled Melaleuka beef sandwich, the beef had a nice tang to it but found it quite dry, so asked for extra sauce, no charge and happy to help out, the bun held together but it reminds you of the cheap burger buns you have as kids or a fast food venue. 7/10 for the pulled beef 👍
Bit more expensive than you'd like for a pub feed but they are fair with the portion sizes for the price.
Will definitely be back to try something new nextime!
Fabulous food for lunch, Wedge salad with Squid, Steak sanga, Fish & Chips and a couple of burgers....HUGE servings with great service, unfortunately with the 40° heat it was a little unpleasant until some form of a breeze came through the doorway.
