Love it!! Never disappointed.. Teriyaki fish, whole grilled squid and shoyu ramen! Not sure why it's so quiet here =( I will definitely support this place for a very long time. Friendly chef even knows me by name ❤️
Good japanese food. Big servings and super cheap
Have always love this place. Simple but delicious food. The oyakodon is my usual favourite. They now serve the oyster and egg udon in thick broth, which is really good. Oyster are fresh and juicy, the broth is very tasty.
Went there for dinner, we both went for the special menu. Wife went for the chicken bento special - 3 kinds of chicken with rice, spaghetti salad and miso soup. The teriyaki and katsu chicken was one of the best we've tasted. I went for the winter special which was an intestine soup with veges and tofu with rice on the side. Really nice and homestyle if you like intestines, tender and full of flavour. Serving sizes were very generous and service was real friendly. Will be back for sure...
Just had lunch here with my boys today after they had haircuts. My little son loves japanese food and he chose it for today. I’m browsing Kanta on Zomato because it’s the one near the haircut place and saw good rating and some good reviews as well. Turn out it’s good place, not fancy one tho but their meals are great. We love the agedashi tofu, chicken teriyaki don and ramen. The sushi and beef tataki was average, i love the one at silver sushi better. The staffs are friendly. Overall it’s good to know that there’s a pretty good japanese restaurant around our neighborhood.
Been visiting this gem of a place for over 12 years. Not only is the food delicious it has a great price tag to match. My favourite has got to be the Chicken katsu and beef tongue steak set. Always looking forward to come back for more!
Exactly how Japanese food should be. Not the most stylish decor but I've only ever done takeaway anyway. Plus I wouldn't want to park at the Langford Ave shops too long.
Overall, this is a good place to eat. The food, service and venue are all good. I have been here multiple times across a time span of about 10 years.
We don't come here very often, about once every couple or four/five months, but when we do, we're satisfied and happy.
There's only one little disappointment that we encountered with the way staff handled some things, but every restaurant has its flaws and shouldn't cloud the good restaurant that is Kanta.
Yummy and great value for money. We just turned up at 8.20pm on a Friday night after being told we couldn't get a booking only to discover there were two free tables. (Very popular no-frills kind of place with prompt service ). Delicious grilled spicy pork and squid and Karaage Prawns, freshly made California rolls and a very generous serving of Teriyaki Beef. Delish!!! (Total bill for two: $48!)
Simple and authentic, cheap and casual! Great experience every time, always fresh and delicious.. but have to agree with other comments it used to be better!
Yummy food:-) try the duck tongue ! Better book before you go as they are quite often fully packed! Very reasonably priced but the food is great !
Run by Japanese people, the food at Kanta is authentic and delicious , but service is average and meals came out really slow. For entree, I could not resist ordering the signature scallops wrapped in salmon. The flavours are seriously like an explosion in the mouth but at a price of $12 for 2 pieces, it is definitely pricey. The chicken katsu don was ok. We decided to try the most interesting thing on the menu: tender beef tongue steak and it was surprisingly delicious!
a wonderful little restaurant with a caring and dedicated Japanese chef, scallops wrapped in salmon
teriyaki chicken, prawn balls , chow an mushi , sushi, great sashimi, all very fresh and delightful
Staff are lovely and very caring what more could one want.
Don't expect luxurious decor , you go there for the food.
Prices are very fair for the quality you get and you can BYO.
If you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, this would be one of the best places to go to. Delicious and freshly made. I have eaten in here and have had numerous takeaways for dinner.
The best Japanese i had in Perth. The food was good and the price was reasonable. The duck and beef tataki were nice, but my favourite is the beef tongue. Really, Really tender!
First time came to Kanta. Small restaurant but good quality. The signature salmon with scallop is so yum. Teriyaki fish is good, the fish is so soft and kind of melt in your mouth. Beef tongue is alright because I found that was a bit chewy. Would not recommend tataki beef in here though.. The portion is so small and I can find a better tataki beef in other restaurant..
Best chicken katsu don in Perth! Everything is freshly made when you order, including the sushi. Very reasonable price too. The open concept kitchen is clean and tidy.
Typical Japanese family restaurant. Old school Japanese chef with friendly Japanese staff. Food was good, authentic and cooked fresh. You should visit, considering its location, its really good.
I've been dine-in @ Kanta for years&years and I've to say I'm so glad that his kitchen hand has finally left..
So which means there will be no more uncooked karage or burned Goyza and taste backed to the original Kanta.
This restaurant's value is purely based on its chef's skill and precision on seasoning, I feel sorry to say that but Kanta almost got ruined by his young kitchen hand.
Welcome back, Kanta!
Kanta is the best restaurant in Perth for their gyutandon! Their gyutandon or as known as beef tounge is the best in town! Not only their beef tounge, Kanta also has many other delicious foods you don't want to miss!
Their wasabi salmon wrapped scallop is amazing !!! Their duck is one if their signature dishes, definitely worth a try :) unfortunately it's abit pricey

This place has the most amazing dish. The salmon and scallops. I will travel 45 minutes just for that. The rest of the food is pretty good too, but that dish is what makes the trip worthwhile. The ambience of the place is not that great, and it's a very small space so it's kinda cramped dining in, but that's not why I go there.
I've been eating at Kanta for about 7 yrs. It has always been wonderful with great service. Akira and his team have pretty good consistency. My favourites on the menu are teriyaki beef, croquettes, dumplings and the green tea icecream. Sushi is great too!

My recommendation for the dish is gyu tounge steak, i love that its perfectly cooked and the taste is yummy! I prefer to come during lunch hour rather than dinner since the place is quite small and table reservatiom recommended for dinner time.
Another one of my all time fave for Japanese food! Love the beef tounge or if you are not keen on beef, the Camo Steak (duck) is also worth a try. The Salmon Scallop entree is to die for too!
Looks are deceiving. Food was delicious, service was great, small little place with a small price to match. Thank you, really enjoyed Japanese.
...the vast majority of dishes we tried being excellent, well executed examples of Japanese cuisine. Dishes like Scallops Wrapped in Salmon and Tender Beef Tongue Steak are particularly unique and successful dishes that make Kanta noteworthy, and even their more common dishes like Udon and Ramen are made with uncommon finesse.
Surprisingly delicious. Really fresh fish, delicious meals - all with a bit of a twist. wasn't expecting anything this good. definitely back before we leave for Blighty
Real Jap food. This is what real Japanese food is meant to taste like. Great.
Salmon Wrapped Scallop. My favourite dish. Salmon & scallop is the perfect combination. Must taste it for yourself.
The best and most authentic Japanese for a long way.
Scallops wrap in salmon are to die forrrrrr and I swear I could eat the salmon caviar don all day everyday! Staffs are friendly but thought they could do better with the settings of the restaurant.
Another Great Dining experience!!. Rang up at 7pm and luckily managed to get a reservation at 730pm. As usual, the food in Kanta did not disappoint! The grilled squid tentacles were grilled to perfection. The chicken Karaage was nicely fried - crispy on the outside and moist inside. Although we love the chicken teriyaki, decided to try the beef version this time - was not disappointed. The thin beef slices were tender and well marinated. Definitely will be back again!
Surprisingly good for such low prices and the location ...
Superb!! We have been coming to Kanta for the last 3-4 years. My whole family loves it especially my 7 year old son. He will choose Kanta over mcdonalds. Our takeaway night is always Kanta. Absolutley love the sushi, the chicken is still warm when I go to eat it. Kanta is the best Japanese in Perth. We dont buy Japanese anywhere else. The owner is lovely aswell.
Authentic Japanese shop. Can not remember how many time I have been to this place for dine in or take away.
Always first choice for good and low price japanese food.
Generous portion, good price, authentic price, why not
Have been coming to Kanta regularly for a few years and I love how consistent the quality of the food is! Yes, the service is not the best as the waitresses all have a bit of an attitude, yes there is a min charge for dinner. But after all that, the food is good, the chef makes his own sushi seasoning and it's fresh sushi every time. He also selects and slices the sashimi, as opposed to some places that get their sashimi delivered pre-sliced. Never been disappointed.
On par with Tak'e in Dianella or possibly even better. Fresh and delicious. However, their phone service sucks!! Phoning in an order is painstaking, literally have to repeat yourself 20 times before they understand.
Grilled tongue steak is delish! But feeling a bit thirsty after having it and pork belly in the hot pot stuff. Over all will recommend the gyu tongue steak.
Love the food here and this is probably the only thing that draws us back each time. The restaurant has recently moved and with this we noticed that the portion size of meals have gone smaller. They have hired new staff and we found that they can't speak much English at all and are quite rude. Service is not great. Chef/owner is also no longer as friendly as before.
A hidden wonder. Imagine this, you have just bought a house in Langford and in the strip mall down the road is a Japanese restaurant that you don't go to for two years working on the theory that a Japanese restaurant in Langford is going to be a plastic wonder. So finally one day we were in a hurry and decided to try it. Two whole years of my life lost not eating at one of the, if not THE best Japanese restaurants we have ever eaten at (And we lived in Japan for 18 months!). We love Japanese food and great Japanese food is what Kanta is about. Lets get it straight, Kanata is a down to earth operation will very few frills, (althought I note they have recently moved to where the failed chicken treat was - and this has improved the dining space) the food is not "modern" Japanese but good traditional Japanese.
They do suffer from being very popular, so it can get crowded and they do great take-aways with phone orders.
The menu is almost isakaia like, a little bit of everything, so try a bit of everything between you.
The Sushi and Shashimi is great - and the gyu titaki is to die for.
I don't know how best to describe the place, but I recently returned to Perth, and the second thing we did was drive out to Langford to eat at Kanta, the hidden wonder of Landford
Definitely an authentic Japanese restaurant! Absolutely love the beef tongue steak and scallop wrapped in salmon!
This place is awesome. How the heck this place ended up in Langford is beyond me but I am continually thankful that it is and consider it to be a gem of a place - a real secret for the food lovers out there. Run by the same chef for years with a tight team in a tight little place, it is just heaven. There is no place locally to get anywhere near decent Japanese and here we are with a five star place tucked away where you least expect it.
The highlight for me is the duck which I can hardly ever not order - it just melts in your mouth and there is a perfect melding of the meat to fat ratio with an incedible sauce delicately blended with shitake mushrooms that has me groaning with pleasure every time. The suhi and other traditional dishes are all top notch, freshly made and the service is impeccable. Take away is good but eating in in most reccomended for the experience and the quality that seems to come from having the meal served straight over the counter to you.
Really we are blessed to have this place, I always feel wonderful after eating here. Would suggest booking to avoid disappointment as has small capacity and limited hours.
The best Japanese in Perth.... This place is authentic, the real deal. It reminded me so much of being in Japan. The meal I had here was as good as anything I have eaten in Japan. The decor does not do it justice, but this is probably a good thing as it might keep the masses away! The scallops wrapped in salmon blew my mind. I will be back for sure and probably with a few friends in tow. I actually can't wait to go again. So good!
Good fresh food. Original kind of japanese food...i lke the chicken karage so much, sushi also taste delicious, with miso soup makes us feel warm in winter time.after finish we tried dessert and overall the food and staff very professional
Fresh, Quality Food!. Small and quaint restaurant hidden in the suburbs. Love it! But wish it wasn't so crowded all the time. Make sure you make a booking to avoid being disappointed. Most dishes are cooked ala minute which is great! It has a open kitchen concept therefore you'll get to see all the action and occasionally if it is not too busy the chef will have a chat with you while he is making sushis. Must have from the menu - Grilled belly pork, grilled octopus tentacles, salmon sashimi (fresh ! fresh ! fresh!) salmon don and I heard the ox tongue is yumz too. 9/10 for me if you just want simple japanese food.
Kanta have anymore please ?!. Me and the gf just rolled out of here. This place is AMAZING!
Hidden away in the carpark next to the shopping centre off Langford Ave this authentic little Japanese eatery has to be seen to be believed. Inside is quite small and seats 20 people maximum. I recommend calling ahead and making a booking if you wish to dine in to avoid disappointment.
This is a no holes bared experience. Very basic interior with the kitchen area and chef in full view of the patrons eating around the preparation area. The food came out fast, fresh (in case of the tartare) and amazing.
We ended up ordering the (1) Miso Soup, (2) Sumashi Jiru, (3) Tamago Jiru, (5) Ika Shio Yaki, (S) Grilled spicy pork belly, (15) Kukke and (60) Beef Tongue Steak along with some Japanese tea.
Numbers match the menu. (S) is from the Specials page on the menu. The take away menu is a bit different from the dine in one also FYI.
We had trouble faulting any of the dishes and will DEFINITELY be back in future. All this for $53 total presents pretty damn good value considering we barely walked out of there because we were so full.
A personal favourite of ours was the Beef Tongue Steak.
Niceeeeeeeeeeeeee. Tongue steak my favourite!
Had dinner with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food:) really enjoyed the scallops tht were nicely wrapped in grilled salmon! sushi with fish roe was also really yummy and i liked the fact that we could overlook the kitchen!
overall a good experience and really worth the trip:)
Love it. I had Cawan mushi today and it was so smooth and nice. We have several other dishes and we shared. No complain whatsoever. Not many people there. Maybe because it's a hot and scorching day. Good for us.
It's not for someone who are looking a nice place for a dinner date. Very small place, and always fully booked. But the food are superb!! Never been disappointed with the quality and taste.
One man show. Getting a place or booking in this restaurant which is more like a little café or bar is difficult. I wish it was bigger but the chef might not be able to cope since he is a one man show. It is interesting to watch him in the open kitchen where he cooks everything. Sashimi here is of average quality but affordable for its quantity, the udon and ramen soups always have a nice depth to their broth.
The teriyaki chicken and grilled fish is one of the best I have eaten in Perth. I would come here more often if it was not so difficult to get a booking.
Have u ever had food that makes you grin right after you put into your mouth?
Kanta does it all.
What more to say? Will definitely be a return customer!
Cheap and cheerful!. Friday July 6 Dinner
Love the silent team of staff that gets the food out super quick
Love the ample parking
Love that they take reservations even though its so small
Love the special japanese sushi roll..
Delicious udon with these really nice fish things in it :)
Cute tiny place with open kitchen and bench side seating
Loathe the size of this place. Cannot cater for large groups
Take away available! :)
Can't say I like that twice cooked pork belly with the bean sprouts dinner special...
LOVE de FOOD except 1 of the waitress. Food - no bad comment - always delicious and maintain the same quality, except that sometimes the sashimi is not very fresh, still under acceptable level. Can't find a place with very fresh sashimi...
Except that one of the waitress who works there - think she's in bad mood 24/7, never sees her smile and sometimes is not polite at all, i wish that she'll change her attitude.
Very impressive dinner. I'll introduce this restaurant to all my friends.
Friendly reminder: better make a booking prior attend.

My brother introduced me to Kanta back in 2005 and I have been going here for authentic Japanese ever since. The Chef and staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is cosy. I have since brought many friends to eat here and they also love it. Definitely a hidden gem in Langford. The sushi is made fresh and food is cooked in the kitchen which is open. Very honest and decently priced and it's remained that way throughout the years! Thanks Kanta, I'll be back soon!
Great sushi, nice n fresh. Awesome teriyaki chicken. Bad customer service. I don't know maybe she was tired but should stop giving us attitude.
I m very picky person, but I think the food here is good and authentic despite being located in a quiet suburb.
Finally checked out this talked about Japanese gem in Langford. It's a tiny Japanese restaurant + sushi bar place. It's clean & presentable. We ordered a salmon roll & avocado roll to share. The sushi really made us speechless ... This us how sushi rice should be cooked. It's amazing & I can just go there for their sushi. As for mains we have katsu chicken & sizzling unagi. The portions are very generous at a good price. Kanta does offer a good range in their menu with a lot of special dishes. I can't wait to go back to try more of their food. I would definitely highly recommend this place for good traditionally Jap meal at very reasonable price.
Fabulously Fresh Sashimi. The mixed platter of Sashimi is absolutely delightful. Fresh. Melts in the mouth. You get 8 pieces of tuna, 3 pieces of salmon and 3 pieces of kingfish (if I recall correctly).
I will be back!
Food is great, eating there is definitely a treat for me. I like the chicken Katsu and sashimi. Good price for it's quality. I am a regular, always go there whenever I got extra money
The brilliance of the food served here compensates for the lengthy drive, the service tending towards hostility, the several weeks' advance booking, and then some.
Great food, worth the travel!. This restaurant is nested in a very quiet suburb, I only got to know about it from my friend's japanese colleagues. We only managed to try it on the 3rd attempt, and we weren't disappointed at all!
The place is very small, my advice to you is to book before you go - maybe the day before even! There's a minimum charge of $20 per head if you go for dinner.
The food was wonderful! I would recommend the ox tongue with rice - best rice set i've tried ever. We tried the salmon with abalone too! And ramen, california roll, not to forget the green tea ice-cream. Overall, we all had a great meal. I would definitely go back again :)
Suprising, the shop is very small, but the food was really good and very special, that u couldn't find anywhere else in perth
Overrall Serve good sushi. Went to kanta for the first time after seeing positive reviews. place was pretty small and so I get there at 6pm which I thought was fairly early for dinner, guess? run out of seats. Didn't expect that will be full on a weeknight.. So we've got ourselves takeaway. Sushi was impressive! Loved it. Fresh salmon and beef tataki was just nailed it! Worth to wait.
Ps do reservation before you get there :)
Best value Japanese restaurant. It is the best value for money Japanese restaurant. The problems are the place is small and long wait for meals. However it is worth to wait. It serves various of dishes which some of them not on other jap restaurant. The meals are all delicious as I have tried all of them. I recommended this restaurant
Authentic Jap. Discovered this little gem when visiting my partner's family and it has become one of our favourite spots when we're around the area. It doesn't look like much on the outside but the food here is truly fantastic. I find ordering over the phone a challenge sometimes due to language barriers, but they have never stuffed up an order. You know it's good Jap as well when it takes 20-30min to make after ordering.
I love the katsudon and miso soup but I love love love their agedashi tofu. Crispy batter and the flavoured soy is just to die for.
The sushi bar is also a nice concept, it's great to watch the chef prepare fresh sashimi. But be warned the place is really small so be sure to book if you want to dine in!
Worth the trek. Hard to find and our in the middle of nowhere but well worth tracking this place down. Some of the most authentic and best Japanese food in Perth. Restaurant is small, limited seating so book in advance and I wouldn't recommend a gourp any bigger than 6 as they don't have any large tables.
Sushi and sashimi is always excellent, made fresh to order in front of you by the chef. There's also a selection of daily specials that usually includes something interesting for the more adventurous, like grilled fish head or beef tongue. if you have an open mind, they're actually delicious.
Fantastic find. This hole in the wall restaurant is a fantastic find. It serves uncomplicated homestyle Japanese food. All food is prepared fresh and with a lot of care, something that is lacking in a lot of restaurants these days.
ONe of the Best Jap food place in Perth. Love the starters (grilled squid, raw beef and egg) - always look out for seasonal specials. Try their teriyaki - it's quite good compared to typical japanese fare. Service will be a little slow because it's mostly a one-man show but never too long. Food just comes at a leisurely pace.
Be sure to make a booking though. FYI no more than 6 people.
A winner. Not many good Jap food places in Perth. This is definitely a hidden gem. The food came out from the kitchen - timed perfectly. One dish came out after another at the just the right pace so no one felt like they were waiting/starving and conversation continued all the way till the mains. It is a small place, so it is hard to book for more than 6 people and do try to book in advance. They do takeaways as well. Prices are reasonable too.
Great food. The food here always good, fresh and cheap. Very authentic and have the board which you must check for seasonal specials.
One of very authentic japanese food place in perth.
Kanta is a small sushi bar located on langford avenue next to Pharmacy 777. It's ran by Chef and Owner Akira San and serves food which I find value for money. Must tries at Kanta would be it's grilled squid legs along side with it's special entree of seared scallop wrapped with salmon! Note that there is a min charge of $15 per head for dinner and none for lunch.
The master looked quite scarry but once u hav a chat with him, interesting stories comes out. A very small place, but the taiste of the food is fantastic. The good part about this place is tat there is only one chef, so the taiste would not change. But the bad part is that the boss doesn't allow resorvation of 6 and more. But it is a small shop.
The best Japanese food ever! Akira is by far a fantastic shef providing all of us with great service & amazing authentic cusine. TRY IT... It's a must :o)
Ok..Kanta is my favourite place to go when I feel like a no-nonsense authentic Japanese cuisine in Perth. So why Kanta? Yes there are so many Japanese joints in Perth. If I feel like to have something fancy, I ‘d probably go to Bonsai, Halu, or Nine Fine Food; but most of the time, I just feel like yummy authentic Japanese cuisine which I can go quickly nearby (5
Gyu Tongue Steak - $18.00 , Grilled Beef Tongue in Teriyaki Sauce, served with Rice Here lies Japanese food worth travelling for - I would happily make the 25-30 minute drive down to Langford just to have dinner at Kanta. I love watching the head chef intricately slice tamago and prepare these beautiful platters of sushi right before my eyes - this is one of the best restaurants for sushi in Perth . Kanta is also a haven for adventurous eaters; I've had beautiful dishes like beef tongue, oxtail karaage and everything in between.
Likes: carefully prepared fresh sashimi, smoky grilled whole squid, twice cooked pork belly; Dislikes: rickety tables, fluoro lights; Value for money: reasonable; Overall: look past the decor and teriyaki chicken, there are some winning and authentic dishes
Kanta is definitely recommended if you are in the area and looking for great Japanese food.
...the chef on display in the centre simultaneously cooking about ten different dishes, while calling out cheerful greetings to customers. It's quite interesting but stressful to watch him work The menu is very reasonably priced, with most mains averaging $9-15. There is a specials boar
A meal at Kanta cost 10 times less than a degustation at the famed Tetsuya’s in Sydney, but in my mouth it provided no less satisfaction.
More is definitely more when it comes to the salmon in Kanta special creamy sauce. The already rich, flaky flesh of salmon is enrobed by an even richer (and even more orange!), decadent sauce. The sauce is so more-ish, by the end we are desperately mopping up the sauce with the few remaining flakes of salmon.
