If you want a kbbq that doesn't marinate it in salty korean sauce, this place is it because everything taste fresh and lean also their egg rolls are boss
Staff are very friendly. Absolutely My favourite Korean BBQ, the flavours in the marinade/sauces of side dishes are to die for! Very juicy and delicious, the meat is very tender and always melts in your mouth. Definitely worth trying out. Prices are very reasonable for what you get!
Nice and quite big restaurant. The staffs are friendly and helpful. You can order per portion here. The meats are nice. They also taste great.
Tong 86 is our favorite Korean BBQ Spot in Perth. This restaurant served really good quality meat to satisfy your Korean BBQ crave. Even my Korean friends love this place!
I love the ambience of the restaurant and they play really good upbeat KPOP song.
Our must-order include: Beef Intercostal, Beef Tongue, Cold Noodle Soup and one rice to share (all orders come with Ban Chan – Korean side dishes for free).
Generally, the service is quick and the staffs are friendly, too. So far this is the best (and the most authentic) Korean BBQ we have experienced in Perth.
Big fan of Korean BBQ so it was nice to try out a new place. Really good value for KBBQ and a quirky venue. The service was quick and having a call button the table helped a lot.
Definitely a fun place to venture with friends, particularly if you are new to Korean and would like to try BBQ in a casual and fun setting. It's byo wine, but they also have great Korean beers. The bbq is tasty, although some interesting marinades would make it even more enjoyable. Not the best bbq, but it's pretty good and central, next to the CBD and Northbridge.
Good value for money Korean. Meat was fresh. The Seafood pancake was perfectly crunchy, the warm glass noodles (don't remember the name unfortunately) had a intricate flavour and the rice rolls were cooked well. For $30 a person, you're stuffed!
My only complaint with this place is the tiny size of the tables. We had to drag another table close to us to put our non barbeque'd dishes on. You couldn't have a group of more than 5 on one table.
Date night with the hubby, and we came here on recommendation from a friend, since we both love Korean BBQ and are always looking for new places to go. The place is a very 'no-frills' type of restaurant with a casual feel - a young crowd made for most of the diners, although we did spot a couple of families with their kids.
Service is very fast, with a waitress setting down our sauces and sides almost as soon as we sat down, but during service if it gets busy it's a little difficult to get a waitress' attention. The atmosphere is (and I will emphasise the point) 'no-frills', so it's strictly casual. The walls are covered in graffiti, which I suppose gives it a modern urban vibe, but having two little ones just reminded me of kids scrawling on the walls out of control. Still, it was something interesting to look at.
We ordered a few different dishes to try and get a general taste of what they had. The tongue came out a little hard from the freezer, but was cut thinly so that it cooked fast on the hotplate anyway. I suppose a blessing from the restaurant is that the meat is re-prepared so that it comes out fast. Despite it being so, it still tasted very good. The pork belly strips were very thick, and needed time to cook properly to render the fat nicely, so I recommend you order some rice to accompany it, and get something cut thinly so you can start munching down while you wait. The snack-y side dishes (sprouts and tofu strips and our favourite, kimchi) were tasty.
The standout dish for us, however, was the meat cheeks. They were our favourite of the night, and we sort of wished we'd ordered two plates of it, instead of one of the pork belly. Still, a great meal, and we were nice and full at the end. The price wasn't too bad, either, and the waitress was happy to refill our sauce when we ran out, but you need to ask.
Tip: Don't wear your nicest clothes, since you'll be cooking your own meat and you'll probably smell like delicious tasty food after from all the sizzling (thank goodness we already knew this!)
Love the Fish cake soup here. Just like the street food in Seoul. Seafood pancake was good too, crunchy outside & gooey inside. Came here on Sunday night, place was full but only 3 staff were working. Felt sorry to the waitress as they had to run around serving everyone but still managed to smile
Definitely some good meat here, the environment was much more casual n definitely very chilled. I enjoyed the quick service, I had a very fun night here without any pressure. The meat was very flavoursome n delicious. Would recommend!
Your standard korean bbq joint with no frills. If you're after purely kbbq, then this is your place. The interior has a warehouse and urban feel, and the staff allow you to "leave a message" on the wall as you please. The (small) tables remind me of your local korean bbq joint in korea. They price the meats quite well, and hence I believe is the best value for money place!
its a good place to eat in winter season. Reasonable price and the staffs are friendly. Lots of room in the restaurant. love the tongue and pork belly
My wife had been wanting to try this place out, so here we are.
I'm not so familiar with Korean food but i thought it was ok.
Anytime you mention to me (BBQ), im thinking it must be with charcoal or is just like a fry pan. No charcoal here, just a different fry pan.
We ordered four different types of meat: brisket, tongue, pork belly (chewy) and marinaded pork.
I'm glad i cooked the pork belly first to add fat and more flavour to the other meat. The marinaded meat was the best. It tasted like bulgulgi.
It comes with several side dishes. Nothing special but it help add different taste, texture and freshness to the meal.
We got this stir fry spicy sauce with pork and veg. I could've just eaten that and rice. The seafood pancake was flavourless and oily.
Servers were great! Lots of room in the restaurant.
The whole meal cost $100 for the 3 of us.
I'll come back for that spicy (which it wasn't) pork dish and rice.
The place is reminiscent of a warehouse, so it's not the fanciest place to go for a meal. However, it is one of the slightly cheaper places if you're wanting to eat Korean BBQ. The barbecued meats are tasty, but they don't have marinated meats options which is a drawback. The kimchi stew and seafood pancake is good too.
Authentic atmosphere and environment. Moderate pricing. Love the side dishes but it's not free to refill. Meat was above good. Korean ice cream and ice pops are available. Overall very good experience. Would come back for 2nd time!
Best food to eat with beer. Can't recommend enough everyone that leaves negative review is a white pig that wants waiters to suck their toes and bow. Press the service button for service, order rice and you will have a great time.
Really good value for money. The atmosphere is quite cool and relaxed, great for students or large groups of people as there is lots of room in the restaurant. The pork belly was so juicy and flavoursome, and comes with all the usual sides (pickles, oil, sauce). Would definitely come back!
Been meaning to go there for a while, it didn't disappoint! Quality meat, fav was definitely the ox tongue. Had the pork on the bone soup and it was delish. Would love to try their army stew next time. Absolutely enjoyed it, strongly recommended.
found another place for supper! I love their everything! soju is quite cheap compare to other restaurant. reasonable price & friendly staffs. one thing bring disappointed was no cooking hood available, so ladies, make sure don't wash your hair before BBQ!
My favourite Korean BBQ joint. Food is fresh and relatively cheaper than other Korean BBQ restaurants!! Wide selection of meats as well. Maybe could improve with more marinated options though. Very interesting and unique decor.
Nice place to eat asian food. If you are an asian who need rice, come to this place. Tong86 have a friendly staff and good service. I like thier kimchi the best! 😍😍😍 and also the staff.
TONG TA TA TONG!TONG TA TA TONG!LET ME SEE THAT T--OOoooOOONG!
Sung to the tune of that Thong Song.
I always do this in my head and it makes me laugh.
Simple bbq fare. Good for a group of six or so - don't take a girl on a date here and expect to kiss neck later.
The tongue is tres delicioso (Italian for very tasty according to George K my neighbour from Athens).
The first 3 burzum albums out of 5 plus an EP making 3.5.
I love you Tong 86
In comparison to the other KBBQ restaurants that I have been to in Perth, this has to be one of the restaurants overall, it provide such a diverse variety of meats. You can not FIND intestines in most restaurants here and that's what (along with the tongue) I would go to KBBQ for. The service is prompt (Thank the lord for the bell!) and great.
Good place to go for a cheap and tasty meal. The wait staff can seem a little bored/annoyed at times but for the most part the service is very good and efficient.
Worth going back? Still unsure. Food: more plain meat than marinated meat, and unfortunately only two choices when it comes to sauce--Gochujang (Korean chilli sauce) and a garlic oil--which meant that our BBQ was a touch on the plain side, in comparison to other Korean BBQ places that are heavy on marinating meats. However, rolling up the "intercostals" (meat from between the ribs) with a smattering of Gochujang in a lettuce leaf did taste very nice. Marinated chicken and marinated pork were, on their own, nicer tasting than the pork belly (that is raved about for some reason, but it's just plain pork belly) or scotch fillet steak (while thick and juicy, it is just plain.) The seafood pancake was nice, though dominated by large chunks of spring onion, and kimchee pancake was good, however needed to be spicier, truer to that 'kimchee' taste. The egg omelette with cheese was tasty. 11/20
Service: there's a button to attract waitstaff's attention, which is a concept we were entirely not used to, so we often just flagged people down with our hands. However, when using the button, they do come quickly and help out quite well. I find ordering too much meat and cooked dishes at once to be bad at a Korean BBQ: the tables are always round and dominated by the grill, so there's never any space. We ended up using two vacant chairs to hold the tray of meat and the egg omelette. 12/20
Ambience: it's not fine-dining obviously, but it does have a bare bones charm about it. Relaxed atmosphere, and fairly welcoming. 12/20
Overall: would I come back? I haven't quite decided. Certainly, there are other Korean BBQ places in Perth that have more variety of meats, cuts of meats, and marinades. Unfortunately, there might not be quite enough here that's worth the trip of visiting again. 11/20
Interactive Eating. Tong 86 has a student vibe with friendly staff and fast service.
A bell on each table and your BBQ set up in the middle you can chat and cook while you dine. BYO we were full up on: Pork Belly, Marinated Chicken, Beef Ribs, 2 portions of Mushrooms with their 5 side dishes and dips.
Overall I was happy and full for $15! Bargain!
Good food and cheap.. I like..
We had the pork belly, intercostal, brisket and mushroom.. I def prefer the marinated meat i think that was the pork belly.. Very tasty & Good portion.. We also ordered one of my fav korean which is Toppoki.. Its ok but the one at Poppo is better.. On top of these and about 5 soju.. Cost us $30ea for 4 of us.. Always good when your order turns out less than you expected.. Korean bbq + soju = great way to start the friday night before heading off to northbridge.. ;)
I love it, it makes the tasty. I don't mind. Final destination
Favourite korean bbq restaurant! the pork are juicy even without marinating. love the pork belly and cheek meat. The kim chee stew is so tasty and delicious for those who like hot/spicy soup. A restaurant that i always crave going back for.
Not bad. It's a good place for a get-together with friends. Food are okay at reasonable price. Staff are not friendly with cold faces.. Come on, we come to pay for dinner, not beg for food...
This place is great! Just be prepared the deal with staff who have limited english.
Food that you cook yourself .... So came here again for a bite tonight with the gf. A good option when you are after something for not much money without much wait. The staff are pretty good at getting the BBQ's up and running which can be more complicated then it seems at times. All the dishes come out very quick (I am assuming they are prepared earlier in the day).
No problems with the BBQ's here ever. Always runs smoothly and it doesn't take long to develop an appetite here once the meat starts cooking. The ox tongue and mushroom set are just some personal favorites that I recommend.
Not much else to say really. If you have never had this kind of dining experience before definitely give it a go.Good for a casual catch up with one or even a group of friends.
Points off for the fact they don't marinade the meat here. Other BBQ places in NB and Perth do this. Having said that the sauces provided go quite well with the meat.
Worth a visit. Went this evening with family. 7 of us so we had 2 bbq tables pushed together. I am not a fan of spicy foods ...... so why did I go? well, it was worth a visit and a try of some new things. The set up was great and gave an authentic feel about the place (but not having been to Korea I am just guessing, I guess !). I think I was the only 'westerner' in there, many Koreans seem to eat here. Staff attentive, always a plus. I did enjoy the cheese and egg roll - basically a big rolled omelette. I enjoyed the experience, if not all the food - my choice- but if you have never eaten Korean food then this place is worth a try.
They cater for students so the prices are reasonable and as far as the quality's concern I find it fair enough to be equivalent to the stated prices. x
I looovvveeee this place.an awesome way to eat food, busy, organised chaos at times....love it:)
Service is prompt and always friendly.
Delicious! First time having Korean BBQ and it was lovely.
Lots of fun and something a bit different! Sure, marinated meat might be better (as previous reviewers have suggested) but a flavour hit is what the sides are for. Good choice of drinks :)
Meat & alcohol. Get smashed with cheap meat and add some korean liquor to the taste!
Preferred over other korean bbq restaurants
Casual with cheap tasty Korean foods! Perfect place for catching up with friends! Live their seafood pancake!
Cheap Korean BBQ eats and so worth it. Finally tried Tong 86 after so long. The place looked great, even the ceilings with Korean writing plastered over it made the place look good. The service was friendly, and most importantly, the food was delicious. Most of the customers were Korean, which almost took me to Korea, after watching korean dramas in my teen years.
My partner and I ordered the pork belly and cheek for meats. I also ordered the mushroom set, and egg roll with cheese. The egg roll is a must get - so delicious, yet so simple. My partner was impressed with the egg roll. We were surprised with the amount of meat that came out (or lack of) but we later found out that it was just enough. We are used to korean bbq buffet, but we ended up being full. It was great, and best bit was that the whole dinner came to $49, including two drinks. Cheap as! I will definitely come back.
It's cheap for a reason. The meats were unmarinated so they were very bland and tough, but the side dishes were very nice and delicious albeit simple. Do try the cheese egg roll, kimchi pancake and the kimchi soup.
Eclectic. Friday April 13 Dinner
:) fun place
casual and relaxed
great value
Love.
Fanastic meal here last night. We tried the scotch fillet, pork neck and mushroom set. This came with sides of omlette strips, kimchi and a delicious green salad I couldn't identify. The chilli paste and soy bean sauce was amazing! We both really enjoyed the hands on approach and the BBQ really gave the meat an amazing taste. We rolled out of the door and the meal only cost us $34! We will definitely be back.
I wish I had known about this place earlier. You walk in and leave Perth. It's a very cool venue, great service and the food is delicious and cheap. Will definately go back.
I love this place- you definitely don't feel like you're in Perth! The beef cheek is probably my favourite meat but my favourite dish is the kimchi pancake. Is it just me or is kimchi oddly addictive?? Go there with a bunch of friends & enjoy.
Interesting. Friendly Staff, Cheap food, Something different
Amazing!cheap, fun, delicious, central, thisplace is a must!!!I go there all the time,I love it
Fun authentic korean. Have to say love this place, been a few times always in small groups. Loved it. very authentic and Vibe a plenty. the wharehousey vibe is trendy and bustling. reminds me of the vegy bar in Melbourne although that similarity certainly doesn't extend to the food. yes if you order the pork belly its going to be fatty,( mmmm pork belly) for the more adventuresome there are some of the "lesser eaten" cuts. others have complained of the heat but the times i have been her it was fairly late at night. perhaps thats the key.
Tong 86 Is fantastic! I went there with my friends and we had a fantastic time. The meat they gave us was really fresh and it tasted really good. It was a bit hot but besides from that the waiters were friendly and I love it!!
Cheap and Fun!. I think the owner saw me 5 times in four weeks last month.
Some of my girlfriends hate it because as with most Korean bbq's you have to wash your hair right after to get rid of the bbq smell.
Food is fresh and cheap. Menu is limited but who cares - its so cheap ! Pancakes are average and baitop shell salad is a large serving. I can't wait to try the spicy soups and hot pot selections in winter. In the meantime - I'll stick to the good old barbeque.
Ambience - it's trendy and suits the place which used to be a warehouse. Nice young vibe here too.
I would agree that it's better for dining in smaller groups rather than large ones. Service is good but less efficient on busy days. I have seen huge groups of more than ten struggling with the awkward round tables and lack of space. Food is okay but cheap
Tong86 gives you this amazing atmosphere, as if your in korea. The food was exactly how its Meant to be. Fresh cut meat with no marinade, i love how you can choose all parts of different animals. Depending on what you like, there are some meats that still have large amounts of fat + dont turn down a nice bottle of wheat beer, this is exactly how you eat a traditional korean bbq!!!
Food was good. And so was place for a casual atmosphere, but service was a bit lacking. Not friendly
Great Fun. Just as the title suggests and if you go with a large group it works out so cheap. Went with the pork belly, intercostals, kim chi pancake and seafood pancake. All of which were fun to cook and a great sharing experience. I believe there is no corkage fee for BYO which is also nice to hear.
A corner of Korea. What a find! This is like a little corner of Korea tucked away on Beaufort St. We were the only Westerners there when we turned up but the staff were super helpful and explained all the drinks and food - including how to barbeque the meat at the table, Korean style. Don't miss the kim chi pancake, which goes down really well with a bottle of draft rice wine. Great food, great atmosphere, and really reasonable prices. You'll leaving feeling like you've just taken a quick trip to Seoul ...
I like. First things first: this place is totally cool! An old shop and warehouse have been left bare and then filled with Korean wallpaper, handwritten graffiti, lights, tables and korean people! Food and service is good and the atmosphere great.
Definitely not as good as my mum's home cooking, but the best Korean you'll find in Perth (looks like a roomier re-creation of a Seoul BBQ joint too). Try the samgyupsal and doenjang jjigae and knock back some soju....good times and cheap too!
Tong 86 is a Korean bbq casual restaurant located on Beaufort Street in Northbridge near the police station and the Court (I've been known to eat here before hitting the dance floor there - maybe as a result of a little too much soju!). On the odd occasion that I'm suffering from massive red meat cravings (I generally prefer chicken or fish) I love to come here. You cook the meat yourself at the table and it's served simply with a few side dishes (most often lettuce, fish cake slices, cabbage kimchi and spring onion kimchi (at least I think that's what it is)).
I've also tryed the fish cake soup - don't really think there's much to it, other than the unmarinaded fish cake slices which you have as a side dish. So not much taste. There's the kimchee soup which is spicy but not as flavourful as the ones I tried at TBK. Has something to do with their kimchee, which is a little bit sourer than others.
I have never experienced the world of Korean BBQ before and if you’d ask me what I though of it after my time at Tong 86, I’d say I’m a bit of a fan! I like the cook-it-yourself ritual, but it was really the atmosphere that had me sold on this place.
