Review Hifumiya Udon Noodle House - Perth

Kagumi Parasya
Went here couple of times for dinner (it has different menu) but first time for lunch at Hifumiya. It feels a bit different on the day time, but I always love their decoration. Went there at 2pm, so it wasn't crowded and can order right away. Very fast and efficient service. In terms or taste, hands down for one of the best udon in Perth. We ordered udon, curry rice and fried dishes. We spent $37 for two people, with one drink. It was really good and ended up very full.

The go to Udon place. Have been here numerous times. I always go for their spicy ones. However, I do find all of their menus are delicious. You order at the counter with the tray provided and wait for the food you have ordered. The food do come out very quickly as they prepare them for you there. You can also get some of their side dishes such as takoyaki, terriyaki chicken on sticks, vegetable tempura and so on. Water and hot green tea are free and self serve along with their crunchy nibbles.

Get really busy on the weekend, the queue move fast. The share seating arrangement I don’t like and get very tight at time. Good ramen yes, good size yes. Price is toward the mid to high.

Immensely popular freshly made udon restaurant that can attract long lines at opening and peak times. The restaurant is structured for efficiency to get your meal out quickly, kind of like a cafeteria with trays that you push along as you collect your main then any additions and finally pay. Udon is continually made and cooked and served very quickly almost like fast food. They have hot and cold, soup and dry udon, as well as some rice dishes and sides which are largely tempura snacks and meat skewers. The udon itself is very good for the quick, easy and relatively inexpensive type of establishment, thick and slightly chewy and toppings are varied but typical of an udon restaurant with plenty of deep fried options. The dining hall is crammed when they're busy. There's tables that range from 2 seats through to large tables with bench seats that become communal when there's not enough smaller tables to go around. However, turnover is quite fast from service through to people quickly eating then leaving.

Delicious and authentic udon, cheap and affordable price. Beautiful restaurant and friendly staff Quite a self-service format, can grab your own utensils and tea.

Udon is made in the shop. Texture is special. Had the cold udon and was fantastic. Onsen egg was cooked to perfection. Staff were energetic and happy. Shop has a nice ambience. Well done guys will definitely be back

WE LOVE IT HERE! Food is amazing, filling and well-priced. The atmosphere and vibes here make us feel like we are back in Japan whenever we come here…and Japan so happens to be our favourite country too! Will definitely continue to visit for sure!

Affordable and authentic japanese food! i ordered the curry udon with a side of chicken karage. Curry sauce had a good balance of spiciness and sweetness. Karage was well fried, crispy outside and juicy inside. definitely worth a visit
Food Is Life
Cheap and cheerful!
From people who enjoy making your food, to a full belly of warm comfort udon soup and a healthy balance in your wallet. Nothing can be more satisfying on a cold afternoon.
Delicious clear broth, bouncy noodles, sweet tofu skin, perfectly poached egg and bits of fried batter for texture. A generous portion for 9.80.
Ample seating but so is the crowd.. so eat and go!

Absolutely love the udon here. Simply Authentic

Best and most authentic udon in Perth

🍜Authentic Eats! 🇯🇵

Been here several times and always a great experience. It’s pretty much exactly how it would be in Japan! The Udon is soft and bouncy with a great range of types. If you are in doubt go for the original or my personal favourite the cold Zaru Udon (best enjoyed in summer!) which has a delicate well flavoured broth that is perfect and not at all salty while being incredibly flavoursome.

Also highly rated is the curry and karage. They also do competitions for people to suggest their own ideas that you can vote on- the winner gets theirs added to the menu as a special item for a period. Past specials include beer udon, carbonara udon, nacho udon and coffee udon! (Which didn’t win but I really wanted to try)

There is free tea and savoury bits to add to your udon if you like. Service is always fast and friendly, and very like Japan- do the kind thing and return your tray in return.

4.5 out of 5.0
Came here for lunch after being recommended by a friend. Great to see a purpose "udon" restaurant and canteen style dining concept. Family friendly, lots of benches and high chairs.

Udon is available hot or cold, plus they have hot sides you can purchase after receiving your noodle bowl.

I had the Hifumiya bowl which reminded me of Osaka's kitsune udon.

Top first impression and a plus that noodles are made in the store.

Fulfils a much needed niche in Perth Japanese food scene.

Hidden little gem off Murray st. Great flavours & very generous portions. Will definitely be back to give this place another full blown crack‼️
The warm udon were perfect for a cold winter’s day. I tried the spicy miso pork. Broth was delicious. The spicy taste was rather subtle. There were also quite a number of side dishes to add on - all deep-fried food.

I don’t understand the hype. Not that special. Won’t wait in line again to eat here... I’d rather go down the street and eat at any half Japanese places (where non-Japanese ppl run) and it would taste the same or better. Nice set up though

Hifumiya feels very authentic and down to earth. It has a very self service style with minimal service from the employees, however the diner is decorated nicely and is spacious. The food is very reasonably priced and tea is free. I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely come again.

Actual score: 4.5

An alleyway gem. Top points for the handmade udon which had great bounce and chew, and the dashi broth which you could tell was made from scratch without cheating.

They have an excellent selection of hot and cold udon, and varieties ranging from the ultra-classic (e.g. Zaru/original) all the way to some seriously boundary-pushing creations (e.g. udon carbonara). Curry udon and rice dishes also available, as well as a good offering of add-ons like takoyaki, tempuras, croquette, etc.

I enjoy this style of ordering and eating and good to see it appear in Perth. No-nonsense and good value. Highly recommended.

Very affordable and nice portion of udon in Perth
Located in an alleyway which could be missed by many ppl but when we went it was very packed , but the service is very fast

Nice open space with open kitchen. Efficient with seevice as you get to order existing menu or make your own udon bowl, friendly staff too. Had the original hifumiya today with takoyaki and fried chicken stick. Generous portion at a very cheap price. Tasty too! Will definitely come back to try all the other menu or make my own udon bowl.

Have been here frequently, and it's never let me down.

Don't expect anything fancy, just good and quick udon, consistent flavors and presentation. The spicy fish roe udon and the pork udon are probably the ones I'd recommend.

Their tempura station has got an excellent variety and tasty deep fried snacks. Highly recommend the karaage (deep fried chicken bits) and kakikage (deep fried vegetable ball).

In terms of pure dedication to serving udon, I don't feel there's a place in town which currently does what Hifumiya does.

I have been here couple of times now and have never been disappointed. Depending on the time there is a queue to order but if you come before or after the dinner rush you’ll be fine. Also the noodle dish comes in two serving sizes but I always get large. Small size may be sufficient if you are getting few fried dishes on the side as well. My favourite so far is the cold noodle with yam and mentaiko (roe) topping

Oh my god!! I finally found Authentic Japanese udon in Perth. The noodle texture, flavour and their customer service are Japanese quality.
Price is good too a lunch for under $10.
I am going to be a regular customer from today.
I am absolutely obsessed with this place!! Cheap and delicious food.. I work down the street and i find myself summoning all my willpower not to walk in for their tempura squid and spicy miso pork rice every lunchtime!!
Fuad Pratama
Really worth the money. Cheap but, come in large portion. The taste also represent the true japanese udon not just ordinary stuff in town. I believe it really authentic because the cooker is a japanese that really know how to make a good udon. The broth feel fresh and decent. Will come back for sure. And one last thing. They side dish such as the tempuras must be tried as well
Janet @ Perth
This udon is by far the best in Perth. Also their price is very reasonable. We had the curry beef & mentaiko (cod roe) udon. Both are delicious. The udon was cooked perfectly & both beef & cod roe are very tasty & goes really well with the udon.
MiloTehC
Horrible experience. Will not return and will not recommend to anyone on earth. I will also not trust the good reviews on Zomato because these reviews are so not reliable. Mood spoilt thanks to the visit to this place. My day has never been this worst ever going to any dining place! The cashier is a joke.

A hidden gem tucked in an alley off the eastern end of the CBD. Their udon noodles are made fresh in the shop everyday and the selections are wide and varied. Prices are well appropriate with the menu...nothing too pricey either. Good value for good food. You can't go wrong when choosing between hot or cold udon noodles.

Ask for the 'Menu Number Zero'...their hidden menu!

A Delicious Udon place hidden in a small alley of Murray Street.
Blink and you will miss this place.

The price is really affordable for a generous portion of Udon (about 10-11 dollar)
The broth taste amazing.

The only thing I was disappointing at was the tempuras that both were not crispy anymore.
Vicky Li
I’ve been here twice now and absolutely love how this concept has made it to Perth. I love udon so naturally, liking this place is a given. Menu items are very simple but the serving sizes, service and quality of the food is amazing for the small price you pay - super good value and sooooo satisfying.

Hifumiya is a hidden from the main bustling streets of Perth, which oddly is reminiscent to many of the excellent restaurants found in Japan. The ordering process is unique as well, reminding me of a cafeteria and is also quite efficient and fast.
The udon is authentic, and in my opinion is a very accurate representation of what I had in Japan. The udon noodles are made fresh in store, have a nice firm structure whilst maintaining a high level of bounce. The broth adhered to the noodles very well without breaking the noodles down.
The broth was phenomenal, rich without being dominant or repetitive. Be careful! I returned to the office with a couple of stains on my buttoned shirt.
If you're after a bowl of good udon for a reasonable price in Perth, I would highly recommend Hifumiya. Rated 4.5/5

I made a mess. I slurped. I enjoyed. Arigato #thank. The curry beef was delicious and the sides of fried delectables made for a great experience at a fantastic price. Only request is that you add a drinks fridge, so I can have a can of coke for my hangover.

Nice cheap food, like the udon stations you find in Sydney. A unique dining experience.
Also has free tea/water, condiments and also tempura potatoes, so yummy! Would definitely come here again. Would be good if it was a little closer to the city though!

Nice little udon place tucked away in a little alley close to Miss Maud’s, Pizza Hut and RPH. I walked by the alley a few times before spotting it. Came at 11.45 on a weekday, it got pretty packed after 12 and there was a long line waiting for seats so best get here a bit early.

We got a signature udon and spicy pork udon (both large), and helped ourselves to sides of veggie tempura, squid tempura and chicken karaage ($2.80 each).

The signature udon came with a beautifully cooked slow egg, bonito flakes, spring onion, seaweed and one of those spongy fried tofu puffs that I love so much. Broth was predominantly kombu/dashi, a bit bland if I must say but then I love my tonkotsu and ramen. Udon noodles slippery and well cooked. The spicy udon had another slow egg, sprouts, chilli and spicy pork mince. Yum yum. Much better.

Sadly all the fried food was cold and therefore unpleasant. Oily and cold fried food isn’t good. The karaage was tasty and well seasoned, the veggie tempura was humongous but mostly onion but with some carrot mixed in (blooming onion much?), and the squid slightly chewy. Perhaps our coming early to get a seat did have a downside as these were not fresh. Ah well.

Beautiful free green tea and water is available, and we did not feel rushed or pressured to leave. And we left pretty full.

Worth a try if you like udon. Maybe give the fried things a miss.

Tucked away in an alley of Murray street is this beautiful restaurant that serve amazing udon. There were signage on how to order at the entrance of the shop. Decide on rice or udon on the menu, place your order with the friendly kitchen staff, grab a tray and in less than 2min and your food ll be ready, move on to the next station and choose your fried side dish and lastly pay at the counter. They throw in free tea and condiments too, do try out the fried bits on the counter and dont forget to return the tray to the designated shelf. Price was very reasonable, friendly staffs and amazing food. Definately a hidden gem!

On my second visit, I had the Beef Curry Udon as I was craving for Japanese curry. If you love Japanese curry, you will love the beef curry udon. The curry was so delicious and heartwarming to the soul together with the tender beef. There’s was just so much flavour in this bowl of beef curry udon!

Such a good find! Service is cafeteria style which makes it super fast, plus you get to pick from a selection of side dishes like karaage chicken, takoyaki etc to add to your udon noodles which is nice as well. Complementary green tea too. Noodles and the soup are yum- We all had the spicy miso pork and really enjoyed. Will keep going back - also a nice change from ramen!

I love hifumiya! I had been here a few times and always had enjoyable meal! I like their ordering system that is efficient allowing long queue to diminish fairly quick. Their staff is super friendly and always greet customers with big friendly smile!

In terms of udon, my to go choice is curry udon: tasty and fresh. But my ultimate favorite would be their rice option with extra onsen egg and, a must, their fried food! They have a few options to choose from but I highly recommend the big ball of onion vege and the fish cake (the one with green spots)! Their price is also friendly, I can get away with a rice and 2 fried options for less than $10. You may think that oh it’s because the rice portion is small, but don’t be deceived, it is actually quite filling!

Ps : also on the self serve table next to the end of the line there is free fried crackle that is perfect to mix with your rice and udon dishes! It adds both texture and flavour to an already delicious meal!
Riska Apricia
My fave is their Kamatama Mentai udon. So creamy and the right saltiness. Add the fried dishes to add a bit of a crunch! Will try their curry udon next time

Tasty udon soup, fresh deep fried mixed vegetables and fish cake roll. Very generous portion and very reasonable price. Highly recommended and definitely will be back!

love this place! came on a sunday afternoon for a late lunch. as everyone has mentioned, there are a range of both udon as well as rice options that you choose at the start of the self-service line. options range from about $4.50 for the rice bowls to just under $10 for the large-sized udon bowls (that come in both warm and cold types), which is sooo reasonable. we got the beef curry and original udon. beef curry was the star for me - curry and beef were both soooo ridiculously tasty! soup for the original udon was also great. we also picked 4 sides that range between about $1.50 up to $3. there is free green tea and water available, as well as table condiments. service was typically japanese - polite and efficient! can’t wait to come back to try their other options!

My friend and i were lucky enough to come here just before the place got really busy (at around 6pm). I like the Japanese ambiance of this place which definitely adds to the whole food experience. I personally am not a fan of udon but the noodles were good. However I did not like the broth but maybe thats just me (and also because I havent really had a good udon before to compare this to). I do recommend getting the sides which were cheap (under $5) and tasted good. I will definitely come back to this place but probably to try their rice meals and have more of the sides again.
Food Mania
Cheap and economic lunch. Half price udon. But the fried foods are cold. It is not as nice. Quite a lot of people queuing to order. It is like a fast food service. Can try if you want something cheap and fast.

THE place for udon... been several times and the quality of the udon and flavour of the broths is incredible!
My faves so far are the japanese curry udon and the spicy pork mince udon....They also have lots of tasty self-serve side goodies....the fried onion for the win!
Staff are super sweet too.

Just tried secret menu item zero...LORDY it's amaaazing..... Beautifully chilled and dressed udon with tempura chicken, special tartare, seeded mustard and salad. Mouthy melty goodness 😀😀😀

Absolutely love the this place. The greeting when you enter and order your dishes reminds me of Japan. The udon dishes we ordered: Hifumiya Original and Spicy miso pork from the warm section was delicious! Love the freshness and texture of the udon noodles. The takoyaki skewers were tasty and so was the fried squid kebab. Definitely coming back for more!

I’m so glad a place like this opened up in Perth. I’ve
eaten at a place like this in Japan and the flavours here are probably one of the closest tasting ones you can get here in Perth. Not only is the food fantastic (especially the handmade noodles) but it’s super cheap and the portions are just perfect. The setting is also very nice and there are always seats available although the place looks full. I love how fast the service is and the staff are always so bright and friendly. I only wish it was open on Saturday night as well, not just Fridays.
Billylamb
Yessss. Love this place. Delicious generous sized udon. Even the regular size was filling enough. Love the almost canteen feel, where you line up, grab and tray, select your sides and slide down to the end to pay. Free tea is available and don’t forget to return your tray once you’re done.
Airwolf
Nice fresh warm udon, arrived just after 11.30 on Saturday and got our serving quite quickly. Likely to come back again, prices are very good and great little gem tucked away in an alley.

After so many ramen restaurants, there is finally an udon specialist place in Perth. The udon & rice here are great here. You can choose whatever tempura & fried toppings to put on your chosen favour udon, but they are not as great in comparison with udon & rice "base". I would suggest Kamatama Mental for first timer (something difficult to find a similar in Perth)
Lady X
This concept of udon noodle house has finally arrived in Perth. You start by choosing your udon, then you’re given your bowl of udon and you move towards the left. Then you can choose to have a side of tempura or others and you pay after. It’s efficient and easy. The original udon was delicious and serving size was good. The fried chikuwa was tasty too! Will definitely frequent this place
Jryou
I loved the Udon here so I wish I could give a higher score, however the basic practice of temperature control goes over the head of the resteraunt staff here as either the lukewarm takoyaki or fried prawn gave me food poisoning.

I love Udon and I will definitely coming back for more however that being said, seafood MUST be kept either below 5 or above 60 degrees to prevent bacteria from forming and I advise anyone visiting to avoid any of the meat based sides unless they are cooked to order, the vege tempura and croquettes are fine as those won't make you sick if eaten at an irregular temperature.

Great value for money! I have had the Himufuya Original, Beef Bukkake Udon and Beef Curry Udon. The original is much more delicate in it's flavour where's the Bukkake is sweeter and the curry is very flavourful. The curry udon was different from expected in a refreshing way as it was not the thick curry sauce usually seen, but a broth that was just right to go with noodles. There's also free tea which is always a plus.

Authentic udon house feel like you at Japan. Really have that environment.
Simple decor. Self service.
Fresh, Reasonable price and yummy.
Udon texture very good. Curry was good .
If you're not udon fans not suitable.
Megaleg
Great tucked away location serving warm bowls of fresh springy premise made Udon noodles.

On entry you make your selection and watch your dish being prepared in front of you before moving along to select extra toppings such as tempura ebi, takoyaki, fish cake and tempura vegetables. You then pay, visit the side station with condiments and a tea urn to to customise your flavours before trying to find a seat to eat.

We got the beef Udon and spicy miso pork.
The spicy miso pork came with a slow cooked egg, negi, chilli and sesame seeds and was served warm. The beef Udon came in a wonderful dashi broth and was hot.

The sides were tasty, we came just after the lunch rush so they were a little cold but still very crispy!
They offer cold versions of each dish meaning that they will still appeal in the hot summer.
Overall great experience and with MJ and Whitney Houston playing in the background I'll happily go again!
Onigiri
Ordered the Hifumiya original udon. Soup base was just right, not too salty. The noodles were chewy. Friendly service and great ambiance. You need to order and pay first before finding somewhere to sit.
Qts
Great little establishment in the laneway. Food is great and reasonably priced. Noodles are made in house which is great to see. The restaurant is set up similar to some of the Udon noodle shops in Japan, where you order your Udon and then you can select a range of sides. It can be a bit confusing but they have a great little A frame guide to explain the process. Will definitely be back.
Casey
This place is delicious! Finally this concept style restaurant has come to Perth. I’ve visited here 3 weeks in a row it was that good. I have had their plain udon which is nice for winter, but the highlight for me is the curry udon, by far the best. Select other options at the end with your tray, octopus skewers, tempura, prawn tempura.. list goes on.
Munchie Junkie
When you rock up it’s a bit confusing. You grab a tray and make your order. Noodles come out almost instantly... you choose your extras and pay, then get told to bring your tray and plates/bowls back.
The broth was smokey and had some depth but was nothing special. The udon noodles were no different to the frozen type you can cook at home. Slightly disappointing.
F4fitfunfoodfly
We had spicy pork noodles. Hot and soupy slurpy udon. SK had beef & DA had porky noodles too. Service was fast. Hot tea was complementary. Hard wooden seats. Wooden tables. Communal seating.
