Certainly a big step up from its predecessor, this place has a great ambience and sublime views, right on the river. Good coffee, cakes and cafe-style food overall but quite expensive. I will probably stick to coffee meetups and afternoon tea here rather than lunch.
Being that this restaurant is located along the amazing Swan River I was very shocked to see that you use single use coffee cups for water. And provide plastic straws with your drinks. Make a change and go plastic free!
We ordered fish n chip, chicken sandwich and chilli mussels. They all good. The place was beautiful, near swan river at matilda bay. The staffs are nice.
Popped into this cafe during a walk with my family mid week. Lovely setting overlooking the river, plenty of seating and pram friendly. We had coffee and cake. Coffee was nice and the cake was delicious and moist.
With the views of the Swan River and the Perth City, Bayside Kitchen is just perfect venue for breaky/ brunch/ lunch. The atmosphere is very relaxed with both indoor and outdoor seating. Just love the vibe of the place.
Menu is good… lots to choose from and the kitchen also does a good job, but the only let down for me was the soggy chips, I would prefer thick cut better quality cafe chips to go with my burger or with the fish and chips.
Also they do have plenty of savoury and sweet options in the cabinet, which are a more pocket friendly option than their usual menu. Water is self-service with disposable cups, would prefer table service.
The staff were friendly and polite and the eating area was nice, clean and tidy. You can order at the counter which makes split billing easier for group lunches.
Have visited this place thrice in a fortnight and would definitely recommend.
Sit back, relax, enjoy the stunning view, sip your coffee and relish your food!!
Dropped in 2pm on a rainy Sunday afternoon, I had the GF open chicken sandwich which was tasty and filling. Decent gf bread. Loved the decent amount of lettuce and tomato that came with it as it is a bit high in protein. Egg was just a tad over packed. Hubby had the burger which he enjoyed but the bottom became soggy quickly. Chips good also. Lovely atmosphere, cute, open, lovely views. I though it was not over priced for the amount served. Would have given a 4 rating but food served on a wooden board, I really hate that. Points though in that is was GF and I was not ill after, tick!
We only had a ham n cheese croissant, carrot cake (both to share) and some coffees, but have to say that the food was great, fresh, and tasty, the location and views are amazing, and the staff were very friendly.
Definitely worth a visit!
Stunning location on Matilda Bay. Staff were friendly but asked to sit outside cos they were closing in the next 45 mins - weird, oh well. Ha. Ordered a few wines and juices and sat outside and enjoyed the atmosphere. Menu looked nice and I'd love to come back and try the breakfast on offer.
Beautiful setting and delicious food! I think it costs a little bit more, maybe to pay for the view... Or the better quality items. Everything I've tried has been pretty good! I've had items from the cake cabinet in the past, burgers, and the eggs and bacon i tried most recently was delicious - the poached eggs were cooked perfectly! You won't be disappointed with the coffee either it is great!
Loved the place and the food exceeded the expectations. The only one drawback are annoying crowns and seagulls that stealing food and making mess.
The place is pretty and relaxing, vegetable soup of the day was surprisingly delishious and reach in flavours. Wraps were tasty and value was good. Coffee was not bad at all. Not sure what people are complaining for. As I understood, the place has improved a lot.
Love that they renovated this place. Nice and airy and a good spot to have a long brekkie or lunch. The pumpkin, haloumi and chickpea dish was tasty with crispy chickpeas and very filling. I was expecting long slices of haloumi and long wedges of pumpkin but it came out as little cubes of both which was quite nice and easy to eat but I think I prefer pan fried haloumi to fried. Some slices of flat bread was placed under the sauce and other ingredients which made it soggy so didn't eat those bits. Good range of dishes, some 'trendy' salad bowls with buckwheat soba and black rice etc were available and some bagels etc in the cabinet.
This place rocks
Biggest hidden gem! Everything I've had is spectacular! Pumpkin bruschetta is the bomb boi, also try the squid salad and pulled pork salad!
And how about this view!
Salad was delish !!!!!! Pulled pork salad so good, squid salad was good too but needed a little bit more squid.
Vanilla milkshake was super taste, defiantly will be back
The Avo smash was a delight. The fusion of the corn bread and minted peas smashed with avocado mixed with greens was great. Always recommend a side of bacon is included. The view is as always incredible but with a breakfast like this - loved it!
Stunning location and plenty of outside seating. The inside is enclosed with awnings to protect from the strong wind that can sometimes blow from the river.
The food, smoothies and coffee is excellent although service can be a bit on the slow side when they are busy but the staff are chatty and hard working.
The only gripe I have is that you are expected to have selected a table and noted the tiny table number before you go up and order. If I am on my own I like to go straight to the counter, order my coffee, then sit down. A small thing I know but it just gets me!
Thank you for your exceptional service today while visiting your cafe, especially with our special dietary requirements! You should be proud of the service delivered. The coffee was the best in Perth. Thanks again for providing a fabulous start to our day. We will be back
Great newly renovated cafe. Went for breakfast and the coffees were great. Smashed avocado was Delish and service was very good. Great spot on the river. Defiantly worth a visit!
Dropped in for lunch and am extremely pleased with the salad platter. Healthy and tasty - great glamour balance and great ingredients. Well done as it's definitely a step beyond the usual healthy attempts. Barley and beetroot with rocket and kale, and thinly shredded red and white cabbage with baby corn and cashew. Lots of tables, pleasant and quick service.
Love this little local gem. I am very fussy with my coffee and theres not too many places in Perth that get it right but these guys do.
Thoroughly enjoyed my smoked salmon salad and my lunch partner had the most gorgeous zucchini fritters.
Their cakes are gorgeous and I look forward to visiting again. After traipsing around the city on Sunday trying to find somewhere half decent for breakfast after the HBF fun run, I wished I had remembered about this place as their breakfast menu looks great too. Love the decor, love the views, love the food.
Seemed to be under renovation for the longest time but worth the wait. Very good coffee, food and service and you can't beat the view of the river. Extra points for location. The smashed avocado and the eggs were perfect with the delicious cornbread. The muffins also looked delicious.
We were offered a choice of main from the rack of lamb on soft polenta with roast capornate and the grilled barramundi with minted pea puree, white quinoa salad and pomegranate vinaigrette.
While lamb sounded delicious (and looked incredible when it came out to the table), I am just the biggest sucker for fish. Crispy skin paired with soft, flaky flesh was juicy and wonderful. It was a really fresh dish, popping with flavour and texture – and just the thing to enjoy with a view of the river.
Fantastic service and great food, all that with the best view in Perth - simply perfect! We can't wait to come back for a meal here at Bayside Kitchen!
Lovely location. Situated on the Swan with amazing views and birds to watch. You can even see the famous yacht club that brought to Australia the America's Cup. Massive improvement to the decor after the refurbishment. Hats off to the owners in doing a job well done. A nice menu which should please every palate. Coffee was lovely. Nice coffee even though the coffee machine seem to getting a workout. Great atmosphere by a lovely crowd. Outside spots are best for watching the world go by but must get it early for those spots. Was a cue of people waiting for take away which is a bit surprising considering they were well staffed. Some tables had dishes enjoying their own lunch or maybe they were just left out on their own for a bit too long. Food looks quite nice but yes, it is in the upper range in terms of price. The location and view would make it expensive to operate the cafe hence it's reflected in the price. Overall a very nice looking restaurant with a decent menu and good coffee. As other's have posted table service would bring this restaurant up to the 5 star mark. Looking forward to visiting again.
This cafe looks out across Matilda Bay and serves a basic cafe menu with a good atmosphere. Nearly everyone at our table had the fish and chips. They were cooked very well and presented in a sort of enamel dish. It is a great place to take children as there are ice creams and a relaxed cafe area outside. The service was good and even though it was a Saturday lunchtime we didn't have to wait. The coffee cups are strangely large and heavy.
Had breakfast here for the first time since the revamp.
Menu is really good and the food was fantastic! So happy as it's been my local for years and wasn't very keen on it before. I will be a regular at Bayside Kitchen from now on! My only recommendation would be to play music in the dining room!!
Today we visited the Bayside Kitchen in Crawley for a Sunday lunch. From a choice of beef, chicken and falafel burgers, I had the beef and PBG had the falafel. These were some of the best burgers we've had so far since starting the blog, though PBG believed that here falafel burger could have used more salad, and that the polenta fries that came as I side for her burger were a little underwhelming. However, the beautiful view of the Swan River and lovely atmosphere of the newly renovated restaurant more than make up for these short-comings.
Very impressive! From the old, somewhat outdated cafe named Matilda Bay Tea Room, the new one is much more welcoming. Brand new covered alfresco area with well-paved floor, really hip chairs and tables, and, of course, the awesome view!
They've changed the menu slightly too. I had the Pork Belly with Maple Corn and Chorizo, which was delish. Correctly proportioned for me. Then I saw the chicken burger... Oh my, that was big! And yet, compensation was made with smaller portion of chips. Well done there!! Overall, the menu has a healthy slant to it and more upmarket.
Service is average, and with a smile. The run: look at the menu, or on special, order, sit down, then food will be delivered. Timing is not bad. We got our food today within 10 minutes, and it was on lunch hour rush. Free tap water, self served.
I love the ambient. So close to the water, with just gorgeous view. Worth a visit. And back!
My wife surprised me by taking me here for breakfast for our 3 year anniversary and oh boy I fell in love!
Firstly the cafe is beautifully located in Matilda bay with city views and basically on the river bank! The open air and very spacious interior meant the coffee tasted so much nicer as a brisk breeze filled the indoor area! Sitting down relaxing with a coffee looking out onto the river was such a perfect and peaceful way to start the day!
I indulged my sweet side and had the buttermilk pancakes with honeycomb buttering caramelised banana. The pancakes were fluffy and tasted delightful with maple sauce and honeycomb butter! For $14 the serving was large and had great presentation...I left the whole meal hostage in my belly as the plate was left without evidence of such a treat ever existing. For a starter we had the polenta chips which were fried lightly and were delicious with the tomato relish!
The service was great, the coffees came out super fast and the meals weren't too slow! The prices are really reasonable and on the cheaper side ($50) for 2 coffees, 2 breakfasts and the side. One of the cheapest meals to be had these days in perth!
Having previously been a barista for five years and knowing good coffee I can say this was easily the best coffee I've had in Perth. Service time was very decent considering how busy it was and all the staff were all very accommodating. Beautiful view, great vibe and excellent coffee. Definitely a place to check out.
Bayside Kitchen Matilda Bay (formerly Matilda Bay Tea Rooms) is a lovely spot along the Swan River to dine with your dog. You'll need to sit in the outside dining area, but this has a lovely view over the river towards Perth city.
This place has been revamped and renovated, and is now called Bayside Kitchen. Not only is the decor more impressive (hamptons/hipster), but the range of food and coffee has also improved (no longer wedges and sour cream, now polenta chips!).
We ordered an avocado smash/poached egg on corn bread, and savoury muffin- both of which were simple but well executed. Coffees were good, however the regular size for $4 is extremely small. I believe they will be opening for dinner in the next few weeks, so it will be interesting to see what their night menu will be offering. Definitely worth a visit to catch some morning sun in any case. Hopefully with time, the rating will improve to a 5.
This place has a terrible rating on Insta so I was apprehensive but kept quiet and went along. Lovely setting. Good enough choices on the menu. Would have been nice if the juices were made to order but they were bottled and tiny for $8.50! Service was nice. Doggy friendly. No complaints really. The pancakes were the cheapest I've seen for $12 but they were a decent size however didn't come with mascarpone. Not dry though as the butter and syrup was adequate and super tasty! The fruit bread is very rich and dense I'm told, definitely get your money's worth for that. I'd go back :)
Beautiful benches and tables under the tree to sit & enjoy a tea with a gorgeous view :)
Lovely place! Have enjoyed the tasty wedges several times. And good coffee and THE BEST Fresh MUFFINS ever, enjoyed savoury and berry!
Best decaf coffee in perth!
Been here several times this year and have always had a fantastic experience.
The food always looks fresh and the salads are to die for! The watermelon and feta salad is my favourite..
The staff are always friendly and helpful, so nice to go to a place in perth where the staff are not constantly scowling!
Also they have a great selection of gluten free food and staff make you feel confident in there gluten free choices..
Great Location: Terrible Food. Hands down one of the top 3 locations in Perth for lunch or coffee. My advice would be to pick up lunch from IGA around the corner or take away coffee from 10th State and sit directly beside Matilda Bay Tea Rooms on the grass or one of the lovely benches provided. The tea rooms are extraordinarily over-priced for what is essentially school canteen food and the entire operation is set up to fleece tourists and families. The last time I visited this cafe I paid about $16 for a kid's sized chicken & Chips with a small drink: daylight robbery! Its no surprise that on weekends the hundreds of families enjoying the sun and river usually have picnic baskets :-) Despite the exorbitant prices, the cafe itself is usually very clean and tidy, with lots of kids and activity inside. The service has always been very good when I have visited there: friendly and efficient always. Drop by for an icy pole on a sunny afternoon and beware the giant swans.
Improving. I have avoided this place for quite a while (just the tea rooms not the location) but it is definitely improving. Wraps are nice and the price and service seem much better than previous visits. It could still improve given the fab location but it is not bad.
Best Fish and Chips. Recommend the fish and chips here, really good, lovely crispy batter on the fish. There was a bit of a wait because they were so busy but the girls behind the counter told us when we ordered so that was fine and we sat out under the trees and enjoyed the view while we waited.

Excellent food, beautiful setting....tasty sweet potato wedges! After taking my clients out to many Perth coffee shops, what a pleasure it is to always be greeted by the friendly staff here who always give outstanding service!
Well I must say the service was excellent the staff were friendly the view was gorgeous too
I ordered a variety of rolls and coffee and tea and all the people in our group really enjoyed them they were fresh and tasty we didn't have to wait the service was excellent
Thanks girls see you soon
I come here for coffee often, as I work nearby. Lovely, friendly staff. Marvellous location. Had lunch a couple of times and have been very happy. I can't comment on what the tearooms are like on the weekends, but I highly recommend it for lunch or coffee during the week. And there's the extra treat of frequent special guest appearances by dolphins! Enough to make anyone's day...
Really good cooked breakfasts
I have eaten here more times than I can count! The view is beautiful and the food and coffee is always good! Normally I get breakfast foods but I recently tried the salmon and it was good. Never had any issues with customer service, timeliness or finding a seat despite it always being busy when I go!!
Beautiful river view with great menu. Was busy on Saturday morning. They got seating inside and out with river view. Good customer service. Coffee is good. Ordered regular cappuccino feed bit smaller looks like a small coffee. If you want good size go with large. Overall had good experience.
Went for a quick drink & dessert after lunch.
Beautiful location & waiters were very nice & friendly.
Lady that took my order at the counter was a bit blunt & could not be bothered giving any eye contact when I asked whether the wine I got my friend could be a bigger serve & I was happy to pay the difference.
Just a “it’s standard size, anything else and pointed pay wave tap here” not even a smile or thank you!
Maybe she was having a bad day but no excuse when you are front of house.
That aside, no complaints here.
Had a very good brunch at Bayside 👍🏻ordered Salmon and Bacon&eggs
Very always busy place with good food and good views
Spearmint milkshake is always my fav as its not too sweet like other places ❤️
An excellent view of the bay with nice coffee and friendly staff. It is a good place to catchup with friends or sit and work for a while. the only problem is that there is no power point to plug in your laptop@@:))
This is one of the good cafes by the riverbank. The ambient was very good. The scenery of the Swan River and the city view had enchanted me in the morning. A place was well thought of giving pushbiker parking bays. The foreshore is also suitable for landing the kayak. The coffee was aromatic and tasty. The coffee beans were supplied by a coffee roaster in Northbridge. This is one of the scenic places that friends and visitors should be invited to experience. Cheers! (2021-10)
Had a wonderful coffee and cake here this morning. Perfect location to catch up with a good friend and let the kids run around nearby on the lawn. They were in full view so very safe.
It’s my new favourite place.
Service impeccable.
Would love to see some more children friendly cakes or biscuits added to the menu.
