Review Tea Cafe - Perth

Poon Supachoke
Chinese hongkong style food. Taste is ok, prince is ok. I got roast duck and pork combination with rice and a pot of Chinese tea. It's cost 12.5 aus.

Located at the downtown and layout and decor is very similar to original Hong Kong tea house. They served authentic Hong Kong food. Variety of dishes available for order. They have package menu for 4pax. Must try the tasty roasted duck. The server is very helpful and attentive. The food is not expensive compared with other restaurant.

Had been the only place in the whole of Perth that had truly authentic Hong Kong tea houses' taste and decor similar to Hong Kong's, and had a wide menu range to order from. The other person reviewing saying the chicken has no taste doesn't know jack because she's chinese. I told the new Malaysian owners that overhauling the place was a bad decision as everyone who came to Tea Cafe wanted the HK taste, I was ignored and was told not everyone had the same taste as mine. Time proved me right as many customers such as me have moved to Kowloon Cafe, where the main chef at Tea Cafe had a hand in helping it open. Menu range is much smaller here but kept some of Tea Cafe's favourites. The staff at Tea Cafe was very good to me and my family, a legacy of Hong Kong's neighborhood eateries that fostered friendships and relationships with its regular customers. The staff at Tea Cafe was great in helping me look after my son while I had to quickly go for a haircut just around the corner. So sad Tea Cafe had to close and overhauled.

I don’t recommend you go there. It is quite noisy. When they are not busy, waitress are chatting loudly. Sounds like you dining in the market. The BBQ pork is ok, but chicken tasteless.

My parents and me travelled to Perth and had a meal in Tea Cafe. My dad paid with a 100 - unpopular in daily life, then the cashier found my parents were tourists and not familiar with Australian notes. She misdirected my dad as it was a 50, but she didn't know I have been in Australia for two years.

Been here several times for lunch. Consistently good food here. Reminiscent of a Hong Kong coffee shop, except with a larger area.

One of the more authentic Hong Kong cha chaan teng style places in Perth. Great food, no-nonsense service, and good prices.

Amazing food and prompt service, they changed their management and menu recently but lucky for me they are still keeping my favourite dim sum and the dish my friend and I both love: Cheese Baked Rice & Tomato Sauce.

Typical low key Hong Kong style dining. No fuss, quick service. Roast duck is super, noodles, Beef brisket, all fantastic. Always predictably good.

My last visit was one year+ ago.. decided to come back and have a try again. Had their lunch special, $13 for a main+ a four dollar drink, pretty good value. It's a HongKong style restaurant. In-shop deco is bad, everything looks old (chairs,tables...) Besides, the attitude of the waitstaff was bad and I felt like she kept rushing me to order even though it was not a busy moment when I dined in. The way she served food was like throwing the plates of food in front of me. However, food was okay and big portion but due to the dining environment and experience I won't visit it again in the future.

I regularly attend this place for afternoon tea when I'm craving some hong kong food.

Service is quick and it's a great place to chill and chat with friends. If you're not into hong kong cuisine, this place might not be to your liking. For the hongkies, it definitely provides a great sense of nostalgia.

Great old-school Chinese bbq. No fuss, no frills, just great simple food. The menu is hilariously diverse (western cafe items) but go for the bbq. Yum.

Ordered stir-fried noodle with seafood and it wasn't that tasty as expected. Dry noodle with strong taste of soy sauce, garlic and sesame oil and less seafood was given. Not worth the price paid. The iced grass jelly drink was way too sweet and the waitress wasn't friendly.

Had the BBQ few weeks before and it was much more better back then. Quality and taste dropped compared to last time. Can be improved further with their consistency.

Disappointing and overpriced!. Came in the afternoon and thought we would give it a try! Unfortunately we obviously had made a mistake! We got in and the waiters seemed like they were doing us a favour, we sat down and asked for a whole roast duck with the pancakes like for Peking Duck, she said for an extra $5 we could get noodles as well, great! Two other tables were given there food first. It came out with about 8 pieces of duck skin and then we assumed the duck would come out after - she told us that this was how it was everywhere! Our duck meat had been put into the noodles. It was pretty average meal and not worth the wait. Then the most atrocious part was it cost us $71! 8 pieces of skin, pancakes and a plate of noodles and two drinks! What an absolute rip off, we told her that and she replied with, you should have said - WE DID! Would never go back ever!

Wrong order. Had lunch at this place today which was fine...
Asked for a half a duck and a piece of red pork and paid $30 extra
Got it out of the container to heat up for dinner and found they had given half a duck and a few pieces of roast pork!
When I called up,they said they couldn't do anything, should have checked it before I left!
Guess I won't ever be going here again.... Neither will my friends

Place to go for the real taste of HK. This is one of our casual lunch/dinner places. There is no other restaurant serves the HK tea café style foods other than here. Big varieties, generous portion and delicious. I would recommend their Beef brisket noodle, Chicken/ seafood hofun with egg sauce, Salt & pepper spare ribs with fried rice, French toast or the classic HK style instant noodle & sandwich set menu! Give this place a go should you want to experience some real HK tea café delicacies

A taste of Hong Kong. My BF love this restaurant really really much. They make very traditional HK style milk tea. I like the Yin Yang fried rice and baked rice (but portion is abit small). My BF loves the BBQ and soup noodle. The sizzling Japanese tofu is very delicious. The Shanghaiese dumplings is not properly made but taste very good. But the clay pot rice is disappointing...

The only thing I really want them to improve is to put some soup in the bathroom ...

Very rude and disappointing waitresses. Dodgy food. Unhygienic. Came with my 2 years old. She made a bit of mess as you would expect from a 2 yearold. As soon as we finished, waitress came and threw some napkins and menu on the table. While looking at us in anger (I guess because my 2 years old made a bit of mess). I wonder if they do not like children why would they provide many many highchair. That's the consequence of family restaurant. Not worth your money to dine here. Never again.

For times of desperate measures. Service was 'okay', seating, ordering and the food came out quick but mistakes are made on the way (ordered roast duck and noodles, but the duck was missing from the dish...had to notify the waiter). Food was very mediocre packed with oil and msg. Roast duck was great though. Menu was enormous which made me question how the food is prepped. Serving size is huge (so you do get your money's worth) and prices are very decent.
Would return in times of drunkenness and desperation.

Good food and reasonable price
Went back after the last experience and it was still so good. Once again the service was great and food fantastic. BBQ dishes and Hong Kong ice tea was excellent. I'll try more dishes next visit!

Pork Belly (*_*). It's the only thing I come here for. Service is almost non-existent, ambiance is what it is - uber casual somewhat cold and a little uncomfortable, but I truly believe that there are some gems to be eaten from this place. I have had a bad experience with the Squid Tentacles that literally had chunks of what looked like MSG on top of it (lol), so you have been warned. But the Pork Belly with Preserved Veggies is done well. I will return to try other dishes when I am feeling game enough.

If u can get over the overused menus and cutlery not to mention the typical family owned business customer service.. This place is Great! Being relatively new to Perth I wanted to find a nice Chinese place and this place has done it for me. Gotta have the Fish Fillets with seasonal vegies :D
Hardrockcafe
Dirty, run down, oily food, all MSG. The BBQ meats tasted good!

The ONLY authentic Hongkong/ Chineese restaurant in Perth.

A bit dull and rundown looking but the food is as if you were actually in Hongkong, not some westernized, bastardized version.

This is Perth's only 茶餐廳 (cha chaan teng) that I know of and if you've been to Hong Kong before you would be familiar with the fusion colonial menu. I've been there a few times in the past but in the past month I've been there with friends two times (both by my recommendation) with mixed eating experiences. The first time, between three people we ordered the squid tentacles, pork belly and yam hotpot and the baked pork chop spaghetti. I can thoroughly recommend all three dishes with the pork belly being cooked perfectly (I.e rendered so you don't feel like you're eating a chunk of fat), the squid tentacles being seasoned perfectly and in a large portion and the baked pork chop spaghetti being an unusual and typical 'tea cafe' choice. My friend also ordered a red bean drink and said it was good though I didn't try it personally. The second time left much to be desired however, the Japanese tofu was yummy but stock-standard, the squid tentacles were fried in possibly old oil or not at a hot enough temperature, the duck was edible but not particularly outstanding and the baked Portuguese chicken spaghetti was good but nothing to write home about. Overall foodwise, the second visit was a far cry from the first visit. Tea Cafe is almost infamous for its less than stellar service. The first visit, a waitress spilt my friends drink and though she said sorry there was no attempt on her behalf to wipe up the spill. The second visit there was a mix-up with some drinks and it took awhile for this be remedied due to miscommunication problems. Their English is not fantastic but then again most of their patrons are Cantonese-speakers. Would I go there again? Yes, in general my experiences there have been OK and I've liked the food. Would I recommend this to my friends? Yes, BUT with the warning that it is a bit hit and miss and not to expect 5-star service.

Not a fan. To begin with the menu's were extremely oily and dirty (which I suppose one should expect of such an establishment). The service was ok from one of the girls, terrible from the guy. They brought a drink to our table which we didn't order, and when we asked the guy to take it away, he thought we were asking him to bring more drinks. We had to repeat ourselves 10 times before he understood. He literally spoke zero English!

The food was below average at best (even for the cheap price) and you can get much better at the same price at most other restaurants just around the corner. Would certainly not return.

Disappointing service and average food. Would not recomment unless last choice

We ordered a french toast, set menu b, and ice tea. The drink and the macaroni set never came out even after 40minutes wait. My french toast came as ham and egg toast and they insisted it was french toast! We had to asked twice for our ice lemon tea. At the end we demanded discount and only got seven dollars off (frm 22 dollars bill) Perhaps i came at the bad time but i never ever been anywhere with such bad service in perth and overseas.

I liked the relaxed atmosphere and I am really eager to go back and try a few different things on the menu. One of the things I want to try is the baked pork chop that they have on the menu.
