Decent ramen and gyoza at reasonable prices. Perth has some of the best Japanese offerings in Australia. Service was prompt, friendly and polite, very Japanese.
Mouth-watering food at very reasonable prices and friendly staff make for exceptional value at this Japanese corner cafe. Teriyaki ginger beef is a stand-out dish.
I visited here for a quick bowl of udon. The broth and noodles were delicious! My partner ordered spicy miso ramen- a lot of noodles, but the broth wasn’t that spicy. I will be back for the udon!
Had a great experience with the vege ramen here at freshmade. Having been let down by a number of other vege broths around Perth, this was nice and rich and full of flavour. The tofu was also some of my favourite! I will be back at some point.
No problems with the service, and my ramen came out pretty quickly.
Very quiet though it's a Friday nite, kuro tonkotsu shouyu ramen was alright, broth was delicious but a bit salty, karaage bento set was pretty standard
We seem to be having some brilliant luck with Japanese restaurants in Perth. This place was a lucky find. Delicious tokyo ramen with delicate flavors. Spicy miso ramen was not shy of spice. A big explosion of flavour in the mouth. Definitely going back for more
Boxing Day shopping. Most restaurants closed. Found this gem of a Japanese diner. We had fried chicken spicy Karaage. Tempura curry udon unspicy thick scrumptious noodles. Tonkatsu ramen was chewy with soya sauce. Green crispy fried gyoza. Black rice chicken rolls. Wow so healthy & nutrient packed. Self service. Unlimited water and hard seats. Takeaway may be better on a crowded day. Filled the shopping belly for more buys on Boxing Day.
What a generous serving! There’s plenty of food on offer and lots of variety which appealed to me the most. I’m a real fan of karaage chicken so was glad to see this as an option under the bento box section. This version was different to those I’ve eaten previously with a slightly different batter. It’s light and crunchy and doesn’t go soggy at all. The batter is lovely and encases tender succulent chicken with a rich mayo. Karaage chicken normally is crumbed which I prefer but this was still tasty. I also loved the other elements in the bento box. The fish cake was so delicious, light, soft super tender fish encased in a golden crumb. The tempura prawn was also excellent, a perfect light crunchy batter encasing well cooked prawn. Then there’s the octopus balls (takoyaki) which has soft tender octopus surrounded by a light gooey pancakey mixture with a lovely golden brown outer. These were rich, creamy and very enjoyable, especially with the sweetish BBQ sauce. The miso soup was warm and soothing, the salad certainly helped to take the edge of the rich and deep fried elements and was particularly refreshing. The rice with sesame seeds was lovely and I like the pickled ginger to aid digestion. The sugar snap peas were a bit unusual though, very stringy and chewy apart from the peas inside. Really stuffed, glad I’ve got a bit of a walk back to the office which is much needed. Satisfied.
Quite like the ramen here. Vegetable tempura is nice
Good choices and food to choose from
Broth is full of flavour
For the price that you pay this cafe is rather good. The terryaki chicken udon always hits the spot!! definately would recommend over their ramen
Wohooooohoo...in this cold weather, soup always the best solution to keep your body warm. Perfect combo.
I had spicy miso ramen-love their broth and the amount of chilli that they put in the soup just at the right level. 😍😍😍
I also tried their karage chicken..nice and crunchy
Hot ramen on a cold day, so glad I came here, it was really tasty! I could say they are just as good as Nao without the long queue. Loved the fact that they used different noodles types in their various choices of ramen. We tried the Spicy Tonkotsu Miso ramen and the Shiro Tonkotsu Shio ramen - both delicious. The broth was strong and full of flavour, could taste the pork base, see the bits of pork in there - which is a good thing. A bit light on ingredients but it's a decent portion and the price is reasonable being in the city. Will definitely come here again for more ramen.
Best ajitsuke tamago that I've had in Perth!! The ramen was good texture - they were different types between the kuro and shiro ramen. I did prefer the kuro ramen though. The broth in both were tasty but too salty. Quite small setting, feels a little open and crowded - but I'd be happy to try it again as a local if I were craving some ramen.
Definitely One of the best ramen in Perth, me and my wife have eaten here 4 times since the discovery of this little gem since February and this shop is the only reason that we have not been back to our previous ramen choice, the Nao Ramen, Which is just a few minutes walk away.
Tried all 4 different soup base ramen and can't really pick which one I like more because they are all very good, biggest thing is we never feel 'thirsty' afterwards from drinking too much of the soup (which is different from most ramen shop, could be that there's less to no MSG in the soup)
Would definitely recommend this place to 'll ramen lovers, it's a small shop and it deserves to be successful!
Weekly trek to this shop. Only had one ramen and that's the shio tonkotsu. Broth is like my favourite ramenya in Kobe. That and the crispy katsu which reminds me of the depato in Japan has me as a loyal customer.
i've had the miso ramen, cold ramen, and then today black rice salad and all good! this is the best lunch strip in perth!! (with smashup and stuzzico)
Tried this place with my partner using a shop-a-docket discount where if you buy a bowl of ramen, the 2nd one is 50% off. (It was how I found out about its existence!) My partner was particularly hungry, so we ordered 3 main dishes between the two of us: shiro tonkotsu shio ramen, kuro tonkotsu shoyu ramen and a karaage cheese curry. (And a side of extra chashu, and a drink.) This came to about $38, including the discount.
The broth for both ramen was tasty; the shiro broth is quite rich due to the oil. The toppings given are spring onion, a slice of chashu, half a soft boiled egg and a large piece of seaweed. The shiro ramen also came with some red pickles. The chashu is a little dry/tough, but otherwise fine. The curly kuro ramen noodles seemed a little undercooked when first served, for the first few mouthfuls, but the residual heat eventually cooked it to a nice consistency. The shiro ramen seemed to have different noodles, something resembling somen, but not quite.
The karaage cheese curry is a nice nostalgic meal, as I haven't seen this dish since I was last in Japan. The karaage serving is generous and deliciously crispy and comes with a side salad that has some dressing poured over it. (The salad consisted of salad leaves, two edamame beans, and some thinly sliced red onion and carrot strips.) The rice serving is a bit small for those who like an even amount of carbs to go with their protein, but overall the dish is of a good, filling size. The curry comes with some pickles, but unfortunately they are not the same type used in the curry houses of Japan, so the combined taste doesn't quite hit the nostalgia spot. There was also a miso soup, which both of us found a little too salty.
Price wise, this place is not bad. It may be more worth it to get the box version of some items, as in the case of the karaage cheese curry, you pay an extra $3 for the miso soup. (Though I'm not sure if the dine-in option gives you more food overall.) If the servings are the same, then $9.50 for the portion sizing is quite reasonable.
I wouldn't mind visiting this place again, but with regards to ramen specifically, if Nao is open, I would probably go there instead.
Move over Nao! We love the ramen here. The smaller bowls look small but it's deceiving! Between the two of us we've tried all the ramens and love them. The soup is always so full of flavour. The other dishes like the teriyaki chicken etc haven't hit the mark but the ramen is great!!
Stumbled across this Ramen store! Absolutely Delish! I've been to Japan before and had authentic Ramen and this place comes quite close to it in terms of broth, meat & egg. So glad I found it, if I ever want Ramen this place is the go to! Personally think it's better than Nao!
Ramen, the five lettered word that evokes joy in my soul. Okay, that might be exaggerating, but I do love my ramen. I love Japanese food in general, as you can tell from the past three posts! My latest Japanese food obsession is Freshmade Cafe ramen. Before my first trip here, I've heard mixed reviews, some were impressed, some not so much. By those who didn't like it, I was told it was not authentic and that Nao or Dosukoi were still better. All these reviews made me want to try it even more!
My number one choice now for a Japanese ramen! The tonkotsu broth is very delicious and the flavoured egg is to die for. Personally think this is better than Nao or Dosukoi. Give it a try!!
Although they're open from morning, they don't serve ramen until 11:30am so I was disappointed when I came in earlier and was told that. However, I returned at a later time and ordered the kuro tonkotsu ramen. The soup was flavourful, and they did the egg well with the hard boiled egg white with the soft egg yolk. Only one piece of charsiu, but that's pretty common when you order ramen here.
Tried the kuro ramen and the broth was lovely. Only setback was that you have to pay extra for extra topping as they only give you one slice of chashu (which most of the places are like that too). Friends also ordered the curry and spicy ramen. I personally didn't like the curry as the taste wasn't as strong as I thought. Very mild curry. Quite like the spicy ramen as it was spicy enough but it was a little too salty. Texture of the ramen is just right. It's definitely one of the best ramen in town. Will go back there to try other dishes
My wife loves the Curry Ramen. Everytime we come here, she always order the Curry Ramen aka “Ki Tonkotsu Curry”. Most of the time it was good, while on few occasion it taste rather too salty. Nonetheless, they provide different flavour that the traditional ramen. Service is also good, staffs are friendly and useful (ie recommending the cold ramen soba during hot summer, stuff like that).
Myself – I prefer the rice menu. Tried the Karaage Spicy Chicken and Teriyaki Fish before, and last time I tried the Karaage Cheese Curry which is taste okay. It’s simple and quick, and location near my church so I definitely would come back for convenience.
For rice menu, they have Box Meals and Dine-In Meals, the difference is that Dine-In Meals comes with extra Miso Soup but at $3.40 extra. I don’t think it’s worth it unless you really really really love miso soup.
This place deserves a better rating than it currently has. I ordered the "Kuro Tonkotsu Shouyo" ramen and every part was delicious. Finished the entire bowl and I swear I could of eaten 4 more! Service was great from the 2 women behind the counter and I will definitely be back. Gochisosama deshita!
Two words: CURRY RAMEN.
The curry ramen is the bomb. We ordered one Ki Tonkotsu Curry and one Kuro Tonkotsu Shouyu. The curry ramen was definitely the show stopper and I will order this again. The Kuro Tonkotsu Shoyu was a bit too salty for my liking..but everyone is different.
No frills dining - order at the front and they bring your order to your table. I find that the serving sizes were larger than Nao and it's always nice to go somewhere different.
I intend to try their udon next time!
Edit: Aug 2015, Managed to try their udon..it was very tasty and I was very happy with it!
Tried the ki tonkotsu curry ramen, kuro tonkotsu shoyu ramen aka tonkotsu spicy ramen. The best had to be the kuro tonkotsu shoyu ramen, the broth was salty and tasty. The curry ramen was nice and thick and tastes like Japanese curry. All the eggs were cooked well and the chashu was tender, although a bit too thick and not as flavoursome as Nao's chashu. Not bad and we'll definitely be back!
Freshmade has been open for only a month and is already cementing its spot on the Perth ramen map. Have been for lunch 3 times now and plan to keep heading back to try all the different dishes.
My favourite so far is their tonkotsu shouyu ramen (the first pic which has the darker broth). The tonkotsu broth is the highlight - Good pork broth richness and has depth to it. The noodles are firm but still springy. The soft boiled egg is a nice addition though it seems to be always a tad overcooked.
Their udon is outstanding - The noodles are soft and very well made. Good udon is hard to find in Perth (Perth's udon scene is seriously lacking compared to ramen), I would rate it as one of the best I've had.
I noticed they also do katsu sandwiches which is a rare sight! The chef is Japanese which is always a good sign.
Went for a late dinner on Saturday night with a group of 16 people. We basically occupied two rows of table inside the FM Japanese Cafe. The chef announced in advance that he can only bring 3 orders in one go, but he brought out our orders quicker than we anticipated! We didn't know until later on that the cafe's closing time is at 8PM, but Mr. Chef said that they will stay open until we finish our meals.
Two dishes that he recommended are the Kuro Tonkotsu Shouyu and Ki Tonkotsu Curry. Most people ordered those two with the exception of one black sushi rice roll and one tonkotsu spicy miso. The curry ramen was probably the best curry ramen I've tasted in Perth due to the right thickness of peppery curry broth and springy noodle texture. Mr. Chef has a secret spicy sauce which is extremely spicy when eaten by itself, but will taste good when mixed together with ramen.
Skewered takoyaki and karaage chicken were awesome, but the gyoza didn't taste good. I think I will skip on the gyoza next time. FM Cafe has some condiments such as chopped seaweed, fried onion and fried garlic.
We went back a few weeks after our first visit and tried their rice meals, but the portion of the rice was too small for our liking.
I like the attractive and eye catching logo that they have against exposed brick wallpaper. The cafe is quite spacious and can easily fit 26-30 diners. All staff were friendly, like to smile and strike a conversation. I haven't tried their sushi yet and will go back to try different ramen.
Its open Monday night!
Ramen, Udon, Donburi, Bento box, Sushi, Sashimi options.
By Japanese chefs.
Tastes devine and looks so good.
It takes us back to Japan.
No wonder its so popular.
Lunch and dinner.
Cheap eats to restaurant style.
Quality and quantity without loosing any authenticity.
Recommended and recommend.
Was greeted promptly at the door and shown to our seat. Very accommodating to kids and brought out smaller cutlery for the young ones. Wait was worth the while as food was BEAUTIFULLY presented and piping hot. Attractive menu presentation and nice ambience. Would definitely come back. Authentic Japanese.
Perfect for a quick bite. Big selection and super tasty Asian cuisine. Order and pay first. Veggie gyoza and three choice bento. Awesome!
Had a lovely lunch at Freshmade. They had a variety of rice, ramen, sushi and side dishes. We tried the spicy ramen, Teriyaki beef, gyōzas and sashimi. It was all very tasty and fresh. Would definitely come back.

Very authentic Japanese atmosphere and food, the service is great. I had the Udon with Tempura prawns and a side of Jiaozi, I have been to Japan and the food here is very authentic and delicious! My friend had the Ramen which was also very nice according to him. Will be coming back!
I had the tonkotsu curry ramen with salmon sashimi. The ramen broth was flavorsome and noodles were just right! Definitely not your traditional bowel of ramen but great experience. The salmon sashimi was very fresh. Service was friendly but they were definitely under the pump during peak dinner service.
It's my first time here, and I'll definitely be back again. Love the Shiro Shio Tonkatsu Ramen I ordered. Soup has great flavour, noodles cooed just right and the char siu melted in my mouth. Beautiful. The place may look a bit basic to some, but hey, it's the quality of the food that counts right?
