Review Comida Do Sul - Perth

Jemma Cauchi
My best friend and I booked Comida for our 50th birthday celebration about a year in advance as I had my eye on them for ages and didn't want to miss out considering our party was in summer and a long weekend. From the very beginning Juliana was wonderful to deal with. She was so helpful with our menu, planning, communication and putting me at ease. I was so excited to finally meet her and her team on the day and they were so friendly and provided a wonderful service. All my guests commented to me how delicious the food is and how lovely the team are. We had 80 guests with 4 canapes and one substantial - tacos, cheese balls, friend chicken, skewers and cerviche. As assured by Juliana we had plenty of food for everyone and my husband who is fussy about his cerviche loved it. I am so happy we had them at our celebration and have no hesitation on recommending them to anyone. Thank you so much Juliana and team. You were everything I had hoped for!

Comida recently catered our wedding down south. From when we first booked them to the day itself, the Comida team communicated well with us, were incredibly professional, catered to a variety of dietary requests and provided such awesome and delicious food! Comida was key in providing an awesome reception experience for our guests and friends of ours are looking at using them for their upcoming wedding.

We were so impressed with Comida Do Sul as were all our guests. There was a real buzz having a Brazilian Food Truck parked in the drive as they walked in. From the first meeting with their delightful staff to their professional and friendly attendance throughout the evening everything went really smoothly. I have to say the food was a highlight of the party. Really good quality ingredients and superb flavours. It was delicious and there was plenty of it. We would definitely use Comida Do Sul again.

We had Comida Do Sul cater our wedding a week ago and from the first contact with Fran, Dany and Joel through to the big night they were nothing but a delight to deal with. They accommodated all our requests with no fuss, their staff went above and beyond, and most importantly the food was delicious. A special mention of the Argentina Lamb Shoulder they provided for a late night snack, our guests loved it!!!

Love Comida do sul ... the food is fab and the team are great too. We booked them for our end of year celebration for 75 people and had no issues with food service ... it is a very relaxed way do do food and the food really is sensational. Everyone, even our most fussy guest, loved it! i needed to be a little patient when conversing with the team via email when planning an event as they don't respond as quickly as I'm used to but I put that down to a small business that is super busy (no dedicated admin).

Did an amazing job catering for our wedding on Saturday. There was so much food and everyone commented on how delicious everything was. A big thank you to Juliana for all communication before the wedding - you made everything a breeze.

We had Comida Do Sul cater for our wedding this past weekend, from the begining of planning they have been fantastic to deal with. Great communication and even better food, the guests at our wedding couldn't get enough! Thanks so much 😊

Thank you so much Juliana and the Comida do Sul crew. You did a great job. The food was amazing, customer service was excellent and you even went over and above to serve a vegetarian option on the day. We received fantastic feedback from our clients and you helped make our event a success. We will definitely use you again for future events :)

The hot dog with chimichurry sauce is the best! The vegetarian prato feito is also decent, with crispy cassava chips and filling vegetarian sausages, though the prato feito dishes tend to be on the dry side. Sweet setup with mini chairs and cacti.

Had lunch from here at the ECU Open Day today. My husband had the O Mutante. He said it was nice but didn't make a huge impression - it had lots of ingredients but nothing stood out. I had the Choripan, which was quite highly flavoured. It was good to eat, but unfortunately kept repeating on me until this evening. We liked the bread rolls used in both meals.
We both thought the service and presentation were good, and that it was fairly reasonably priced.
Comida Do Sul
We love bringing the family to this little truck when its parked up in Freo. Get the Prato Feito! Its a really cool mix of flavours, something we dont have anywhere else in Perth.

had terrible service but great food. Trucks normally kill it with service as thats one of the main things that can draw you in. However these guys were too cool or something. Tried it anyway and the food was great. The casava fries were cool, and the beef was cooked nearly perfectly. i'd grab something again probably

I had the Brazilian hot dog which was filled with grilled chorizo, salsa verde and a nice sauce, I can't remember the taste but I was very nice. It was enjoyable and it was quick.

Recently had these guys at our house party and was stoked with the food and the service. All our guests loved it. Surprisingly popular with the kids too.

Just had the Brazilian hot dog, the chorizo wasn't that great and for $10 you expect some Amazing flavours happening but it was quite basic!! The chilli sauce compares to a tin of tomatoes with no heat whatsoever!!!

A good little food truck offering different food. I love a place that has something a bit different! I had the plate meal (with a name I couldn't pronounce!!!) which comes with kale, melt in the mouth beef, casava fries, black beans and rice. Takes a while for your order but then you know it's fresh and it's worth the wait. Good stuff!

Delicious fresh food truck cuisine! Have eaten from here a couple of times and am always satisfied and get my money's worth! Would recommend
Everyday Weekends (Yoshika)
So happy they offer a vegetarian option! The plantains were yum, and the beans were very flavourful. There's a mix of textures and flavours, a great option during festivals and markets,

The choripan was delicious. Great set up for a food truck- a long wait but it was worth it. There are too many food trucks that are overpriced and under whelming- Comida do Sul is fresh, tasty, and great value.

We had the Choripan (chorizo hotdog) and Mutante (beef & kale sandwich) both were filling, tasty and a beautiful blend of exotic flavours.
These were accompanied by a fresh coconut drink which matched the food.

Im guilty of stalking this truck. Have had almost everything on the menu and...cannot fault it. Choripan (hotdog) is a favourite. Love the flavours.

Have spoken to the owner Joel on a few occassions and also chatted with the various staff...always friendly and good vibes all round.

Amazing. I'll hunt this food truck down because it's just so good. Seriously don't miss this. Great dinner on the run, healthy, different, super tasty and really filling. Portions are huge. Winner.

Great food truck! Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Really nice mutante roll, loved the kale and chimichurri, one of the better beef rolls I've had a in a long time.

For anyone who can remember the old chicken patties at Chicken Treat back in the 80's, try the coxinha, a ball of shredded chicken and potato goodness that will bring back childhood memories!

I’m slowly working my way through the menu and so far have tried two of their sandwiches: the Choripan (AU$10), an Argentinean-style hot dog, with spicy chorizo, homemade mayo, vinagrete (tomato salsa) and chimmichurri (a green sauce made with parsley, coriander, garlic, olive oil, vinegar and chilli) in a bun; and O Mutante (AU$12 – the ‘mutant’ tropical Brazilian sandwich) with grilled strips of salty rump steak, farofa (crushed roasted Brazilian yam), pineapple chilli sauce, garlic kale, homemade mayo, tomato salsa and chimmichurri in a bun. The sandwiches are made to order, substantial and flavoursome. Just a warning: the mayonnaise is incredibly garlicky!

What a surprise it was when I spotted a food truck right across from my client's offices at lunchtime. My staff and I succumbed to the temptation of trying something new plus the sun was shining so warmly to toast us up in the cold day. Comida do Sul is a Brazilian food truck and I'm slightly ashamed to say that I have had very minimal contact with this cuisine.

Which is why I was very spoilt for choice and must've spent too long reading the menu and making the all-important decision of what to order. I settled with their box called Prato Feito: Rice, Beef Steak, Beans, Salsa, Kale, Yam sticks - $14

I was so happy with my decision - no regrets at all. This box has ticked all the right boxes for flavour, texture and was amazingly delicious. Beef steak was cooked right such that it was still tender, the yam sticks reminded me of a childhood tapioca snack, the kale and salsa provided the much needed freshness and the beans and rice were the right mix to eat everything with. There is a couple of minutes wait for them to prepare the food but it was very worth it. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out on their FB page for their locations in the future!

Eat Drink Perth: Food Truck Rumble – Chilli Hot Dog It was pretty tasty. I slowly munched away on the soft bun containing a nice hot dog, covered in a chilli con carne type beef mixture, gooey cheddar cheese and cheese wiz, plus some jalapeños for that extra kick. A pretty good version but it still needs more smokiness in the chilli con carne and far more chilli kick. Next up, I finally spotted the Comida do Sul Brazilian Food Truck which generally frequents around Fremantle. I’ve heard good things about them and I’m keen to try South American cuisine. The hot dog was filling so I decided to go with a few lighter items: A few menu items from the Comida do Sul Brazilian Food Truck The coxinha are a snack, a rather filling snack, maybe even a meal in itself. They look very enticing in the display cabinet, a line of golden crumbed crispy pear shaped items lined up row after row in the oven. They’re best enjoyed with chilli sauce which really is a must, it’s not optional. The coxinha are a soft shredded chicken mixture surrounded with cheese and soft potato, before being coated in a crumb and fried. Boy are they soft and delicious! Wow, this should start gripping the streets as an ultimate street food. They’re very filling and moorish. I had to get something sweet to finish off and the dessert, pudim, caught my eye. It’s a semolina type pudding which has shredded coconut on the base and is coated in a caramel sauce. The pudding is soft, rich, and creamy. It too is very filling. The shredded coconut presents a contrast to the smoothness of the dish and the caramel sauce adds just a touch of sweetness without being too sweet. By the time I made my way out, there were long lines snaking there way from some food stalls, but the turnout has been excellent despite the weather. There’s still time to check it out if you’re lucky. It’s fantastic that we have these great events to go to in Perth. Like This Food Blog & Want A Second Helping? Earlier this year, the City of Perth announced the trialing of the operation of food trucks in the City of Perth Local Government Area. The news greeted most I know with excitement especially my sister who has now become an avid fan, constantly on the look out for the food truck near her work place in West Perth! She was actually the one who informed me about this, and told me that Langley Park is one of the approved locations for the trial. Beauty, as that is very near my work place. I started my own look out throughout the week!

Brilliant vegan choices. Kale in a takeaway truck - does it get any better than this ? :)

Amazing!. This food truck is amazing, I love the food on offer... the coxinha and the choripan are delicious and full of flavour. The pudim (which is a desert) is so good, one of my favourite deserts!! Please come and check out this wonderful food truck,
Sarah

Vege Prato Feito. finally tried a praito feito (or a "composed plate" which includes rice and beans and some sort of protein, fish, chicken or in this case bean sausage). so my meal had, as well as black beans and rice, kale and diced tomatoes with a great vinegary dressing, a bean sausage, a crispy fried yam (yum) and farofa (crushed, dried yam). this dish was veery tasty, good home style cooking. worth hunting down this food truck to try all their dishes.

-----18 Apr, 2014-----

Vege Choripan !!. tried the vege choripan (hot dog) with a bean sausage, housemade salsa and mayo and topped with chilli sauce. this was so good, an explosion of different tastes and all working together so well. will definitely be trying this again.

-----13 Mar, 2014-----

Coxinha !!. caught up with this food truck at the maylands hawkers market and finally tried a coxinha. such great flavours, creamy mashed potato, crunchy coating and the shredded chicken in the centre ... awesome.

Tasty fare. I've eaten from this truck twice now and enjoyed it both times. The Coxhina and the choripan are packed with flavour. Also tried the meat, beans and rice combo but wasn't as pleased with the one. The mushy black beans are pretty garlicky and flavoursome but the beef was a little on the chewy side.
Anyway, it's a great little business so check it out if u see it in your neighbourhood.

Yummy in my tummy. I’m loving this food truck frenzy in Perth. We need more, especially if they’re as good as this. Tasty food and great friendly service. I drive all the way from central Perth to Freo just to eat it. I’m a big fan of the Coxinha – deep fried chicken ball goodness, Choripán – chorizo dog and finishing it off with a fresh coconut....I go loco over Comida do Sul

...we were very impressed with the food being made by Comida do Sul - I can see why they're building up something of a following, and those Choripans were definitely the best hot dogs Alissa and I have had

Fantastic Food Truck in Perth. The Choripan is the business!

Overwhelmed by the very tasty sounding menu, we decided to try the Coxinha – an amazing snack filled with spiced shredded chicken and potato, deep fried and topped with hot sauce. Next time, we’re trying the Choripan (Argentinian-style chorizo hot dog) or the Prato Feito (grilled beef, yam, cassava, black beans and rice) and we’ll be washing it down with fresh coconuts. I’m so excited for summer. Look out for their locations on their Facebook page . Various locations, Fremantle

Comida Do Sul is absolutely infectious, every detail and inch breathes a cool, laid back personality reminiscent of a true street vendor.

We found this little piece of Brazilian heaven at the Twilight Hawker's Markets on a Friday evening. Wedged between trucks of sweet goodness, Comida Do Sul, was dishing up flavours of Brazil.

Praito feito is an essential part of Brazilian cuisine, its literal translation being "composed plate". A plate composed of rice, beans, meat, french fries and salad, in the motherland you can also find an egg or two slipped in.

Another regular on the m

The steak is cooked medium rare, a nice juicy pink centre and slightly crisp outside. I love the crumb that you can dip each piece in, with the texture that enhances the juicy flavours. The rice is fluffy and works well with the tasty black beans.

Add their deliciously simple fare and a fresh coconut and I am convinced there is such a place called paradise – it’s Leighton Beach on a Saturday arvo.

Comida Do Sul (Brazilian food truck) – this proved to be quite popular as the food was sold out by the time we got there. They were making a new batch of Coxinha ($3) which had a 15 minutes wait. My friend purchased the last one and was hungrily munching away while I was talking to him making me very envious. Boo! He said it was really good!
