Review Cafe Myriade - Perth

Rania Samawi
This place is fantastic for bringing a group of friends and playing a HUGE variety of board games while drinking your favourite coffee. There is a decent selection of savory snacks, cakes, tarts and drinks to choose from. The staff are rather helpful with showing you how to play the games and will recommend games for you as well. I have enjoyed every visit to this little cafe and I certainly recommend you try it at least once as it is the first of its kind in Perth.

They have a great selection of boardgames, and Nintendo Wii games available for play, as well as a variety of drinks and desserts. It's in a great location with food nearby so you can come here afterwards to have dessert and play some games. The lady serving us was very friendly and polite. The chairs were comfortable and if I was back in town, I wouldn't hesitate to come here one night again for some games. I got an ised chocolate, while other members of our group also got desserts such as various types of mouth-watering cakes. The only downside was a brawl between some drunk Aboriginals out the front while we were playing, but that's Perth's CBD in a nutshell :P Police soon showed up to arrest them.

Nice and unique. A cafe with board game booths is one of a kind. This place is nice and peaceful but it could use a well trained barrista if it wants to attract more people.

Super place, best to check they have gf cakes beforehand. Also take care if you are going to play their excellent range of board games not to do it at a time that coincides with the noisy computer game events.

Awesome place - great atmosphere, huge selection of games, and the staff are very helpful. The food and drinks are great too. Game recommendation - Geisters Blitz. So weird but so good.

Good service, the owners know their games and they have a wide variety. The actual games are a little rundown, but overall it's always a treat to go and is a great social outing with friends.
David D'Mello
Wide stock of games and pleasant environment. Giving 1 star as they did not provide any prior notice before not opening the store today. Atleast a sign on the cafe would have been nice.
Alphonse Faure
Café with tables by the hour and a large selection of board games and activities available to play. Great for social occasions and ideal for families with children

Nice concept, a Cafe where you can catch up with friends over some board games, coffee and cakes. The games are fun and a huge variety. The coffee and tea selections are decent. But the cakes - that's another story, are not nice at all. Tiramisu tastes just like plain sponge cake with alot of unflavoured cream. The Ferrero slice was solid, hard to dig into and a bit dry. The sticky date cake was moist, better of the choices we made but it was very rich and sweet. Come here for the entertainment but expect too much from the food.

I wished this place served better food options because it really is my favourite date night place. I guess they dont want sticky fingers and grease on the games which is understandable. <br/><br/>A lot of fond memories and laughs and tiffs had here over a vast variety of board games and Mario kart. It's such good value and a cheap and memorable date night. <br/><br/>Game recommendation: Ghost Blitz<br/>And they do a pretty good affogato and iced chocolate!

Had an awesome time! Staff was very helpful and helped us find the best games to suit our group. Waffles were delicious :-)<br/>Great concept and menu!<br/>Will definitely be back!

Great drinks & cakes here but what's better is the staff!! They were so kind and understanding when my group of friends and I accidentally stayed longer than we paid for! Great selection of games as well, never fail to have fun at Cafe Myriade!!

HAPPY HOUR HAPPY TIMES. I frequent Cafe Myriade quiet a bit and nothing beats a great time during happy hour.<br/><br/>For $9, you can play boardgames from 2-7pm Fri-Sun. Especially for those long intense board games, this is so value for money.<br/><br/>The staff are immpecable. They have played all the games themselves and can run you through them - especially for people like me that refuse to read instructions.<br/><br/>The desserts are made externally and they have a great selection. Great place to catch up with friends - or destroy friendships depending...

Found this place by typing 'top desserts in northbridge' and this cute little cafe was the first place that popped up! First time we've been here and first time ever have seen a cafe with awesome desserts and coffee with games that you can play on the side!! What a awesome idea! Food we had was amazing and the way the greeted us was the nicest way we have ever been treated in a long time at a cafe. Super happy and definitely will come back again :)

Oh that cake. Had the Ferrero Rocher cake. Goodness gracious!! Great stuff. And full of nice people.

Went here on the weekend with 3 other mates. Nice venue and atmosphere. Think it's over rated though. Played 1 board game, did not even get to finish it (otherwise we would have had to pay for another hour, on top of the 2 we had already paid for) and with the amount we all paid combined, we could have bought 3 board games! food was well below par. Nice staff. Won't be back though.

Good concept but needs improvement. Oganised a social event for a friend who was visiting from overseas. The games were great but the food menu was lacking. Only had a choice of two items from the hot savoury food menu and when the food was brought out my dessert was brought out before the pie I ordered as it was still cooking in the oven. <br/><br/>Pros: friendly staff, loads of games to choose from<br/>Cons: poor quality and not enough options with choice of food, beverage menu was average and cakes were not fresh.

Don't get why this place has such good reviews. Agree great concept, but seriously, can they learn to write a better menu! Food is awful!! Waffles is worst than home made. Stale and dry! Cake is old and stale. Games is great but seriously , paying per person per hour is just ridiculous! There's another place in perth (forgot what it's called) but at least u pay per board game! Given than most board games take 2 hours average to finish this place is a ripoff. Female staff is quite annoying too.

Food for the mind and a sweet-toothed body.. I have been attending Cafe Myriade since it opened - being a boardgamer for decades it was pretty exciting for us when it opened up. Board game cafes were something that happened in other, more sophisticated cities a long way away.<br/><br/>Cafe Myriade has maintained a consistently friendly, knowledgeable and professional standard of service. The desserts are interesting, and the gluten free ones are so nice it's best to check to see if there are any the day before you go in, because they're popular and disappear! They do waffles and hot savoury snacks as well. (not GF) <br/><br/>Both the desserts and coffee are well worth visiting even if you're not interested in boardgames. But if you're not interested in boardgames perhaps you should be - whether you have kids or not. <br/><br/>But especially if you have kids. Apart from the old saying that the family that plays together stays together, boardgames help children develop social skills, and exercise numeracy and literacy without even realizing it. Pattern recognition, decision making and strategy and problem solving just happen.<br/><br/>Not to mention that it's pretty cheap entertainment!<br/><br/>As a start, ask the staff to teach you and your kids, if any, Spot It! followed by King of Tokyo. Both these games are enjoyable icebreakers which should animate even the most reserved. After all, who wouldn't enjoy being the biggest monster in Tokyo, with lots of chunky dice to roll? Hey That's My Fish!, when you are penguins trying to collect the most fish is also appealing to children and adults alike. These are quick games, accessible to children and adults alike. You could easily fit a couple of games of each into one of the affordable packages Cafe Myriade offers.<br/><br/>And these are just a few suggestions. Want to teach kids to work together? Or need a break from the ultra-competitive spouse? Try the exciting Forbidden Island, save the treasures before the island sinks! Goes well with the cafe's excellent iced chocolate. Or try the firefighting Flashpoint, or help stop the spread of disease with Pandemic and the Centre for Disease Control, also part of the rapidly growing co-operative genre.<br/><br/>Build words with Bananagrams or find out how far you can push your luck with Can't Stop or Incan Gold. There are whole worlds to be explored out there, and there are friendly people to teach you, and delicious treats to also assist in helping you play. <br/><br/>I try to visit Cafe Myriade at least once a month, sometimes more, since it opened a couple of years ago, and I've always had a good time.<br/><br/>Top marks from me.
Chicken Little
Firm Favourite After One Visit. Remember the days when boardgames were the staple source of entertainment and battle of wits in the family home? Cafe Myriade brings this back with gusto.<br/><br/>This little cafe tucked in around the corner from the bright lights of Northbridge signature is board games. They have an incredible library of board games. To quote one staff member, "We have games so much better than Monopoly."<br/><br/>And boy do they. There are the childhood favourites included like Cluedo, Guess Who? and Operation. However there are a whole lot more games in boardgames and this is where the staff shine in customer service.<br/><br/>Someone approaches you upon entry and asks whether you've visited before. VERY important because you pay for your time in the cafe to play their games and the rates are really reasonable. They also do Murder Mystery Nights catered especially for your group!! FINALLY somewhere central in Perth that does this.<br/><br/>Where was I? Okay. There are packages of game play plus drink and dessert or you can pay by the hour. The staff point out which one works out cheaper for your plans for the day or night if you're unsure. There are also Happy Hour Specials which on a Saturday from 2PM - 7PM is $9 per person for the entire five hours of game play. It sounds like a lot for us newbies being introduced by friends of ours, but four hours went by FAST.<br/><br/>I understand that you may have your hearts set on a particular game from childhood or you want to settle a score from yesteryear with a foe. Totally doable but explore the games. How this works is that a staff member will ask what you what you want to play. You can let them choose and they ask for what kind of game you would like to play and your interests. Then they wander off to their library of games from A-Z and come back with a game and teach you and your friends how to play. The let you play and come back to see how you're going. What's more, they're genuinely interested in how you're finding gameplay. You can have some serious in depth discussions here. The boardgame nerd within me, (never knew I had one), loved this so much.<br/><br/>They are also totally honest about whether they have personally played it or have just taught a game. What is invaluable is description of how they or other people have found gameplay so you sort of know what you're getting into.<br/><br/>The food. Well there's a selection of cakes and even waffles for under $10. There are also savouries for under $10 and the price of savouries gets discounted with the purchase of a package. There are also gluten free options.<br/><br/>The drinks. There's coffee, tea, soft drinks, and juices. For groups you can order juices and soft drinks by the jugs. <br/><br/>And if that's not enough, there are also Wii games available as well.<br/><br/>Definitely returning. Never had so much fun in a cafe anywhere.

Exciting Hangout. This Cafe is a great getaway from normal life to a place where you'll find it very hard to be bored and be fed with mouth watering desserts and scrumptious drinks. The Sticky Date Pudding and Iced Chocolate are amazing. If you have not have this before, you MUST try it. You simply MUST.<br/><br/>It definitely is a different hangout from the normal dinner and drinks. It's a place where you will discover things about your friends that you have never discovered before with their big collection of games to cater for a big range of group numbers. So even though they provide a wonderful environment, the company we go with is what I look forward to every time.

Cafe Myriade provides a unique atmosphere unseen in Perth. <br/><br/>The staff are friendly and helpful, and the amount of effort they have put into learning the games to help others is incredible. <br/><br/>It is an excellent way to learn new games and have an incredibly fun time.

Friendly Staff + Great concept. The friendly owners and staff have bought a great new concept to Perth. It's like having boardgame night at a friends place except they have 250+ boardgames and someone who knows how to play them all!! They can also recommend ones to play.<br/><br/>Staff are very friendly and helpful. Drinks and dessert are well priced as is their drinks/dessert+game package. TRY THE FERROR ROCHER cake!! It its awesome!!

A great concept well executed by the friendly staff.

Fun night for all!. Attentive and helpful staff who were ready to assist us in choosing some games. <br/>We also tried the ice chocolate and they were yummy and big and combined with the 2 hour game time, it is well worth your money for a Friday night. <br/><br/>Love the concept! Good work guys

Fun, Interesting, Addictive, Top chilling out place. I can stay here with my family, friends or even dates forever and not notice the time.<br/><br/>Definitely a top Cafe to go to, staff are very pleasant, helpful, committed in bringing the absolute enjoyment out of their customers. Deserts and drinks sold are reasonable in price and delish. Massive amounts of different card and boardgames offered.<br/><br/>Already booked next weekend with mates to come back again!

Sweet Fun. Cafe Myriade is the most unique cafe I've ever been to; an enormous variety of board games with friendly staff to give you instructions(if you need them) to play any board game you may choose. Delicious gluten free raspberry friands, heavenly milkshakes and an array of sweet baked goods that look almost too good to eat. the atmosphere is light and fun, the roof painted to look like a monopoly board, huge chess pieces in the windows and creative displays made up of photos taken of happy customers. Anyone who loves board games and has a sweet tooth will love Cafe Myriade.

Great atmosphere. What an excellent idea for a cafe.<br/>Had a lot of friends recommend this place, and I am happy I tried it.<br/>Excellent selection of board games and the staff are extremely friendly.<br/>They also have a nice range of drinks and desserts available.<br/><br/>A lot of fun, great for an afternoon with friends

This is not a CAFE with games. This is a GAMES place which has cafe offerings. It's not just about the food and drinks (which are wonderful, by the way), it's all about the games. You go to Cafe Myriade for the specialty/exotic games that you won't find at other cafes (i.e. more than just Scrabble, Monopoly, Connect4, etc.). Sure, they have those too, but why limit yourself to the usual stuff, when you can experience so much more?!<br/>Thumbs up to the proprietors bringing this to Perth, I have missed games nights till I found out about Cafe Myriade.

Amazing!. I absolutely love Cafe Myriade. You've got a range of boardgames as well as coffee and desserts. The staff are incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is brilliant!

Little Gem. Friends and I wanted a place to have coffee and dessert on a Friday night. We came across this little tucked away cafe and absolutely loved it. The drinks and desserts were wonderful and the staff were really friendly and patient with us recommending a wide variety of games. Would definitely be coming back here.

Fun and Friendly. I saw friends posting about this place on Facebook and decided to give it a try one day since we had nothing to do. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are really friendly and recommended games and taught us how to play it. They didn't mind when we only spent 2 minutes on each game because it got boring. The drinks were good. Haven't tried the desserts before but I'm hearing good reviews.

Oldies Enjoy this experience. We have just enjoyed a delightful afternoon at Cafe Myiade . Being seniors did not deter the proprieters Mandy and Ricky from being most engaging and encouraging as we tried out a number of fantastic board games . The coffee was first class and all agreed that the desserts were superb.<br/>Will definitely return and will be keen to share this gem with friends and family<br/><br/>AJS

Wonderful idea for a cafe.. I love this place! A friend of mine discovered it whilst browsing the web, and we've been addicted since! The price is very reasonable, at $8 from 2pm-7pm where you can leave any time. The staff are very friendly and know exactly how to play each and every one of the boardgames and also help you make your board game selection from their vast collection. I haven't tried their desserts yet, but they look tasty.

Terrific. Lovely desserts, decent coffee, and a huge array of board games for a really good price. We went the other day to try it out, and wound up staying for five hours - we'll definitely be back. It's a great place to go that's just a bit different.

Wonderful place to spend time. It's a pretty wonderful place to spend time. there are lot of borad games. <br/>Some are really simple. To be honese, you don't even need to use your brain. Some really invloves a lot of tatic, strategy, skill. <br/>anyway, a lot of fun. <br/>price? reasonable. 12 bucks for 2 hours+a drink.

Café Myriade, Northbridge Board game galore! I don’t classify myself as an exceedingly competitive person. Even when I used to play netball in primary/ high school, I would never get wrapped up the heatedness of the competition, and would rarely resort to aggressiveness and complaints if we were losing. I’ve never been too concerned about ranks, prizes or recognition in either my personal life or career – I like to think of myself as someone who’s pretty chilled and easygoing, enjoying life in a calm, collected, appreciative way. This all changes when I start playing board games. I completely and utterly lose my head...

I have never been a big fan of board games when i was young, the only games I ever played was Monopoly and Cadoo. When i first found out i was going to Cafe Myriade i honestly was looking more forward to the desserts. It turned out to be one of the coolest places i've been.   There are over 100 board games and wii games to choose from. We couldn't decide which board games to play and didn't know how to play most of them. The staff was super friendly and came to help us, they took their time to help us choose a game and teach us how to play.  A variety of desserts, drinks and savory treats are available. The desserts and drinks are a Must Try!  You can get food and drink packages with the games which turns out to be cheaper and Happy Hour is from 2pm -7pm where you get discount on game play ($9pp for 5 hours). Strawberry Tart It was obvious i was going to chose the board game package which included 1 drink and 1 dessert plus 2 hours of games. I got a strawberry tart, inside was filled w

The cafe looks pretty relaxed and friendly and a cool place to just hangout. Rupert said it would be a great place to come when it’s wet and cold outside.
