Review High Bench Espresso - Perth

Aggie Szabo
Great little Cafe in the heart of West Perth. The Team are professional and friendly. Our coffee orders weren't the most simple but no fuss was made. The coffee (all 3 for me and the same for my clients) were exceptional and well presented. The owner was present when we attended and was helpful and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend High Bench Espresso if you are looking for a goof coffee in West Perth! Looking forward to my next visit and trying their breakfast.

Had a quick lunch here and we LOVE their iced coffee and sandwiches! The Cafe is nice and clean, and friendly staff as well. 😁

Excellent coffee, but $1.10 surcharge for alternative milk is outrageous. Lunch items priced around $20 also so not cheap. The mini cup of bircher muesli that comes with the coffee + bircher combo is quite nice if a bit too sweet, but be warned that the spoon doesn't fit through the top so you'll need to open the lid, which is very messy as the little cup is overflowing with muesli and dripping honey. Probably best to dine in for this one.

Unbelievable food, great coffee and a great experience.

Great coffee and some morning tea snacks

The photos are correct! This is some of the best food in West Perth - some of the best cafe food you’ll ever encounter! The coffee is consistently good as well. This family run cafe is a West Perth institution - right in the heart of the town and opposite the Cat bus stop. On a corner location, it has a variety of indoor and outdoor seating. A favoured venue for business discussions and catch-ups.

Love the food and coffee. Must try their smoothies next time. Great service and friendly.

Rubbish!  Lady was rude and the coffee was rubbish.  First and last time I'll be visiting.  Not impressed and will go back to my favourite Ms Mauds just up the road.  They always have smiles on their faces and give me great customer service.

Restaurant was open early and serving breakfast before 7am which was good. I asked to order my usual sides and it was just all too hard. Said I had to order and pay for toast. I said I had coeliacs and was told I could have gluten free bread instead. I declined as most of the time this bread is toasted in the same toaster as normal bread which for a coeliac the consequence of this is painful. Servings were tiny - 4 cherry tomatoes and 1/4 of an avocado... no wonder they wanted to give me bread. Coffee was good and cups were cute. Left hungry and annoyed.

It was the only place buzzing in West Perth today. The coffee was fantastic!! Had the Nasi Goreng with pork belly...to die for! Great gluten free options for my partner. Really so delighted I had to hop on and give it a huge thumbs up!

The food is a tad pricey for a breakfast/lunch spot although it is usually good. The fresh fruit and salad on the side is a big plus. Service is ok.

Hands down best coffee and lunch options in West Perth. Always friendly service and the food is made with so much love! All hearty, healthy and delicious food options - highly recommend! There is a reason it's always bustling :)

Favourite place to come for food, snacks, coffee the lot! Very friendly and personal staff who are always a pleasure to talk to. Guaranteed to walk away satisfied & with a smile!

This place is outrageously overpriced (even for West Perth). I still get the odd coffee and slice from here because yes, they are good quality, but so are a lot of other places in the area. The wait time for a takeaway coffee is also ridiculous. But my biggest gripe is with the insufferable woman who appears to run the joint. No other word to describe her really, she is just really strange.  She has terrible customer service and doesn't know how to talk to people; I suggest she takes a course because I know I'm not the only person deterred from the place because of her.  I recommend Fix Espresso across the road - their customer service is impeccable, coffee is great and I'm not waiting 20 minutes for it (even though it can easily rival High Bench in volume of customers most mornings).

Very exceptional food and environment. I had lunch here several times and I really enjoyed eating delicious food like Stuffed pepper, Balli chicken and different soups. You must try these.<br/>Good healthy food choices are available there as well and all staff are super friendly.

Was kicked outside to the cold because I wasn't eating!<br/><br/>Just dropped by for a coffee. Freezing cold day. I specifically asked the guy serving at the till when I ordered in a takeaway cup if it was ok to sit down for a while, but explained that I might need to leave in a bit (hence the take away cup).<br/><br/>Was sitting at a table for 2, reading the paper, minding my own business. Suddenly a woman interrupted me without introducing herself and asked if I was waiting for anyone. I thought she was another customer and perhaps would like to use my spare chair. <br/><br/>No, turns out she worked there (so I was left to figure out), and, immediately upon my saying that I wasn't waiting for anyone, told me that 'she'd have to ask me to move then', as 'she had customers wanting to eat'. I was a bit stunned, but managed to asked her where she actually would like me to move to? She looked around and then told me outside. In the freezing cold. 'Because there were others that wanted to eat.' Then in a sing song, completely unapologetic voice, 'sor-ree...'<br/><br/>I wasn't about to be treated like a second class citizen. If a cafe isn't prepared to invest in the capital required to provide a heated and properly sheltered outdoor area where customers will enjoy eating, then it should limit the number of customers that it is prepared to serve and profit from. <br/><br/>Likewise, if it is not prepared to operate as a cafe where people can sit down over a cup of coffee for less than half an hour (or will not tolerate that over the peak lunch period) that should be made clear so that paying customers can take their business elsewhere. <br/><br/>As I was leaving I told the woman that I didn't think I would be returning. She said 'oh sor-rrreeee' again in a completely unapologetic manner and tone. <br/><br/>Truly despicable customer service.

This place is WILDLY overpriced. $13.50 for a tiny takeaway soup with 3 little pieces of bread. The food here is good, but so not worth the price. I work right by here and I always regret paying for whatever it is that I got.
Dizko
Sorry but a $6 takeaway muffin.......... this place is way overpriced and the long waits you have to undertake for your drinks let alone the food is ridiculous. Waited over 10mins for a juice... a juice.. The only thing here is that they have a large selection but you pay for it. Definitely not coming back after this experience totally not worth it for me, plenty of places around to go to instead.

Delicious. <br/>Flavours are amazing. Spicy but not overbearing or too hot <br/>Had Balinese chicken special and an amazing side salad. <br/>Meals served with cooling fruit on side. <br/>Will be making this a regular. <br/>Highly recommended

I grab lunch here once a week and I really like their food. Great selection of healthy options and a few naughty treats if you're feeling particularly indulgent. The only negative is I don't like their order/pay system. It takes forever to get served and where you line up is in the way of the restaurant staff and very crowded. Maybe they could look at having two people serve at a time over lunch to keep the line moving. Great joint otherwise!

There is a plethora of cafes and coffees shops around these days so it can be tricky business to decide where to head for a decent cuppa. I would never profess to be kind of coffee aficionado, but it’s noticeable when you are served a nice coffee. . I recently headed to West Perth for breakfast. West Perth was my old stomping ground, the suburb I worked when I got my first big girl job. Ahhh real work, makes you realise how good you had it during uni days, when work tended to be casual or part time. But I digress. My breakfasting partner in crime and fellow early bird Mrs P and I lined up a visit to High Bench Espresso in West Perth. As I pulled up out the front I recalled having visited this location previously but under another name, a name which I can’t recall.

As I work rather close to this spot, it has fast become my go to breakfast/coffee spot. With some great interesting and healthy food options, there is a lot of choice on their menu. Plus their serving sizes are quite large and more then worth the price! The coffee and sweets here are also tasty and the staff are always super friendly.

Awesome food, great coffee. I come to this place on a regular basis and the food is always amazing! The staff are very friendly and I always love to try something new from their large range of choices. Everything from savoury to sweet and in between. Today I tried the Tuna cake salad and was not disappointed. Will be back!

Great breakfast. We had a fantastic breakfast here. Lovely presentation, selected fruit was tasty and ripe, really tasty food. Service was friendly, and didn't wait to long for the meal. So good we are going back, and looking forward to it

Average. The breakfast frittata is nice, esp with the relish<br/>Do not try the nasi goreng.. it is one of the worst dishes ever.. definitely fusion confusion and exp at $16.50<br/>A nice selection of juices and smoothies <br/>Overall the place is ok, food price is on the expensive side and the service is soooooooooo slow.<br/>I only buy from there as its the nearest place to my office.

Best coffee in West Perth. My workmates and I go to this little cafe every morning<br/>For coffee. The staff are excellent who always remember our coffee orders. we have been here for lunch a few times and it is amazing, the food is delicious and very well presented. I highly recommend stopping by!

Ripping you off with the EFTPOS. It really annoys me that this place charges 25 cents if you buy a coffee with eftpos and its under $10. It's a coffee shop...the chunk of your business is selling products under $10....I don't know any other coffee place that does this. We head to bocetto espresso on Hay Street now because you can swipe your card without feeling ripped off

Finally some HEALTHY and YUMMY food to hit West Perth!. Finally some wholesome, healthy food has hit West Perth and at a reasonable price too! My hubby and I stumbled upon this little gem and it is now a favourite of ours. So many delicious lunch and breaki options to choose from - the options are endless. My husband fell in love with the Nasi Goreng and I couldn't get over the choice of yummy salads - and yay for using superfoods! The juice selection must also be mentioned - Green Charger woowwwwweee!! You can tell this chef has a real passion for food. <br/><br/>Thanks for bringing such yummy food to WP!

Great food and a nice spot to sit away from the main drag in West Perth. Not cheap but this is a quality cafe, not a lunch bar (although plenty of people get take aways) and the standard of food matches. The coffee is well made but I'm not a fan of the beans they use, too sweet for my liking, with a caramel flavour profile. I prefer coffee from Fix just up the road 50m.

Delish & I'll be back!. Today was the first time eating lunch at the High Bench Espresso. It was awesome! I loved my vegie tart & hubby enjoyed the pork Nasi goreng. Both dishes were presented wonderfully & service was very fast, even though there was alot of business. There were so many yummy treats to choose from it was hard! They have all options displayed so it makes for easy picking! Will definitely be back again soon... my new fav lunch eatery!
Contessa.Eats
Expensive and culturally confused food. Asian salad + olives? Chicken and leek and sweetcorn and carrot chowder? Taking this fusion thing too far. Avoid having anything heated. They will nuke the buggery out of it too.
Marty
High Price Espresso. This place had some promise. Right up until they jacked the price of a REGULAR long mac up to $5.50.

Great food and best coffee in west Perth. This place getting way too busy, you have to be early to get lunch and the coffee line in the morning can be ten minutes!,<br/><br/>Why you may ask.<br/><br/>Well it's the best place, the owners refuse to compromise on the coffee taste and the diversity of the lunch menu and size of the portions is over generous.<br/><br/>Who needs a dinner after lunch here!
Anthony
Fabulous! Super tasty, great meals. Nice atmosphere too.

Lunch on the run. Dropped by for a quick lunch with staff before a meeting.<br/>ABSOLUTELY loved the Nasi Goreng.<br/>Unique, full of flavor and presentation was a gem.<br/><br/>Keep it up. Certainly will be back, but most importantly will be telling my friends all about this West Perth gem !!!

Not worth it. The food here is good, but it is expensive and not worth the wait time. I waited 20 minutes out of my 30 minute lunch break for them to warm up a tuna pattie and put some pre made salad with it it. People served after me got their food before me. Not cool. I'm sick of the long wait times at this place for take away food

I have worked in West Perth for 20 years and this is the best thing that had happened. Finally some interesting and and wholesome food.

I come to West Perth often for work, I'm so glad there's somewhere I can get decent fresh juices and salads, great for summer time

MUST GO!! Simply said amaz.... MUST GO!! <br/>Simply said amazing coffee. I get my coffee every morning from my favourite male barista! He Takes a lot of pride in his title to give me the same coffee how I like it everytime!! Food is to die for!! The soups the chef makes are irresistible. Customer service is perfect very friendly and funny but professional at the same time. I always get greeted as soon as I walk in and that just makes me feel welcome!

Awesome food, Sensational food and service is good.

HUGE wait time, disgusting cofffee and Non-existent Customer Service. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.<br/>I will NEVER return to this pathethic excuse of a coffee shop.<br/>The first time we went for an informal work meeting over coffees as my manager suggested we have coffee over at Highbench. When we arrived there were only few people in the cafĂ©, we ordered our coffee’s and sat outside. <br/>As the time dragged on and on we realised the place was attracting a few more customers but our coffee’s were still nowhere to be seen. The time dragged on further till just before the commencement of our meeting when we all decided that someone will need to say omething to the young blonde woman behind the counter who took our coffee orders when we came in. <br/>One of my work Colleagues went up to talk to her and as he was talking to her you could see her spring to life busily trying to bust out our coffee order with the barrister. <br/>There was only 6 of us but only 5 of us had ordered coffees, that should have been no longer than 10 minutes and because they had completely forgotten about us as the female worker pranced around the tables pretending to do work, chatting to her work colleagues she forget entirely about us! She placed the coffee's on the table and hurried off not even so much as offering a proper apology.<br/>Whatsmore is that the coffee was disgusting, a burnt horrible excuse for a coffee!!<br/><br/>The second time I visited highbench was with another work colleague we decided to walk down to order something for breakfast.<br/>Another young female was at the counter this time and was “attempting” to take the breakfast order of a customer in front of us. She kept repeating the order to the customer and each time something was wrong with the time she took it and the customer would have to repeat the order and it would start over again. In this time the young male barrister who was standing close to his female work colleague would be staring down the customer in disgust, however the customer was being extremely calm and patient given the continuous upset in her order.<br/>The male barrister and his female work colleague both seemed COMPLETELY incompetent. <br/>The place was filled with frustrated, waiting people impatiently wanting to get to work (no doubt they had been there for ages and more than likely regretting their decision) and this young female at the counter was clearly the reason for their hold up considering she couldn’t get AN order right. <br/>We waited nearly half an hour and I told my work colleague we should just head elsewhere as that was ridiculous! Not to mention that their music choice in there is just odd, they have a mix of horrible 90's pop/dance music that didn’t make the top charts, very strange for a supposed “modern” cafĂ©.<br/>Don’t waste your time!!!

So disappointing. The food looks great, but oh so disappointing. Not enough filler in the sandwiches (one teeny slice of brie in a whole baguette) and the fantastic looking raspberry scone which I couldn't resist had barely any flavour at all.<br/><br/>But, that's nothing compared to the service! 10 mins to get a take away sandwich from the shelf! Another 5 to finally get the scone. No appology, just a grunt. I even gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back a second time, only to have a similar experience and saw a few people in the cafe having similar experiences.

"Simply Irresistible". Formally "Chaos" ...wow have these guys done a remarkable makeover, simply great coffee they use "Di Bella" and the food was to die for. Looks as though they do all this in house.<br/><br/>Had a great muffin, Spiced pear, rhubarb, custard and toasted almonds never had anything like it before, the best I have ever had. Got there around 7.45 am, and it was very busy.<br/><br/>After finding out it was only there second day, they seemed very organized with 2 baristas, and plenty of other staff in hand.<br/><br/>There counter food on display looked very appetizing, I work in the area, and definitely will be going back.<br/><br/>The lady in charge said they had named the cafe "High Bench Espresso"<br/>after the long outdoor bench which I was told should be up by the end of the week.
