Review Hwa Ro Korean Restaurant - Perth

Good range of meat, though no labels and quite pricey at $38 pp. The ventilation tubes on every table drastically reduced the heat and BBQ smoke hotbox effect, making for a more enjoyable eating experience.

Amazing place, I cannot recommend it enough. The food is relatively cheap and tasty, the way authentic Korean should be. The vibes are also great, with the food being replenished regularly. The owner is friendly and doesn't seem to mind having a chat and giving tips. I went before a night out and surprisingly didn't notice the usual Korean BBQ smoked smell. Definitely a go to for a casual night out.

Delicious food, with a good variety of meats with and without marinades. Has recently come under new management as of March 2016. Tables were a little crowded, especially with 4 people to a table but nothing that couldn't be worked around. This was the first time I had ever tried Korean BBQ and I loved it. Staff were extremely friendly and always smiling. It was a great atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Set up was nicely done. Hot food wasn't hot, there were a few flies about as well. The staff made you feel like you were a hassle when you asked about the different meats, just ruined it for us by the way we were treated in the beginning. We left after 20 minutes.

Poor quality food and buffet trays not replenished regularly. All Staff were eating at a table laughing and talking loudly ignoring attention to guests. They were eating sumptuous food not available to guests. Cost was $38 per head and we paid $152 for food only , which was a waste of money for what was provided. An all round bad experience.

It's a nice place but if you don't know what to cook how to cook etc or are really a fan of the food style for the cost you could get a great eye fillet steak for $40 per head somewhere else. That being said it's a fun super social way to eat :)

Delicious all you can eat Korean BBQ place! Steam boat 🍲 with seafood 🐟 and bbq 🍳🍖 at the same time. The marinated pork ribs 🐖 and beef 🐄 were terrific! Also had an assortment of fruit for dessert 🍎🥝🍉

Dang, we got FED! $36/person for all sorts steamboat, and bb and all sort of other dishes and no one gave us stares for going up multiple times... We ate the steamboat thinking we were done... Then the Mama San (new owner) demanded we have our fill of special beef and chicken which she cooked and tended to us and told us what to eat and dip with - which we did. Beef fingers - say no more, they're your favourite. This place is swell. You should go if you like food. Which you probably do.

$35 what? Too much man for those quality of food + staff TBH they just walking around I asked for drink over than 3 times I almost die because its was spicy but I don't mind about that just disappointed, please train your costumes service🍼

Meat, meat all you can eat! Hwa Ro is a DIY Korean BBQ/hot pot buffet. It cost us $35 a head and each table is equipped with a hotplate and a gas burner for your hot pot/steam boat soup.

The buffet itself consisted of cold food station with sushi, hot buffet selection included fried chicken wings, sweet and sour pork, spicy pork belly, beef bulgoggi, stir fried udon noodles and jap chae. The raw section for your DIY cooking station included veggies, prawns, fish, squid, salads, pork belly, beef ribs, chicken.... the cuts of meat could've been labeled better. Some were marinated, some weren't. Then there was a station for pickles and sauces.

The dessert section was seriously lacking.... Just a fruit platter consisting of mostly watermelon and a bowl of fruit punch. Meh.

I really liked all the hot food, especially the spicy pork belly. BBQ wise, I was a fan of the marinated beef short ribs. The prawns were really fresh too. Everything was topped up pretty regularly throughout the night.

Worth checking out. We came on a Monday and it was quote busy. You could get away without booking but glad we did as we managed to secure a table close to the buffet station for minimal effort, maximum eating.

So far, the most amazing Korean bbq restaurant I ever been too. Went here a week ago and they have an amazing variety of cook food that you can eat while cooking your own. They have an amazing staff that gives you a lot of freedom to do your own thing with the bbq, unlike with others that interrupts all the time like you're doing something wrong.

Such an amazing little gem in Northbridge, definitely worth a visit!

Don't bother to go there. Poor quality of food, not fresh, limited choices, and the older woman there were very rude, as we didn't eat the part between the bone of the beef rib, she spoke very rude to us that is the best part of the beef and it is so waste of food. She totally didn't know how to do her business

Fantastic buffet in this kitsch and easygoing BBQ restaurant. The food is excellent and the value is great. The staff offer attentive and genuinely nice service. Would recommend in a flash.

Anyone who doesn't rate this place must have something wrong with them. Everything is good at management PR is next level.

Well-priced, great location, quality meat.

Wow. Wow. Hwa Ro. Been here every week for the last 5 weeks. Have not been disappointed once. Apparently new owners, so huge kudos to them.

So I really believe in terms of Korean BBQ this is one of the best. I've been to Oppa, BBQ sister and Seoul Korean and by far the quality of the meat they serve is one of the freshest most tastiest amongst the four.

Their cooked food which includes spicy pork, bulgogi, japcai (the last two times not available), sweet sour pork, sushi and fried chicken wings are more choices than other similar restaurants and in terms of quality is definitely better than normal ban Marie type of dishes.

Their raw BBQ meat sections have nice taste to those marinated ones and very good high quality meat in terms of the unmarinated ones. Their raw pork belly, simply DIVINE!!!!

They also have a steamboat alongside the BBQ for a more healthy option with more of the quality ingredient for you to consume.

So. Why not the 5.0 star... desert station is lacking slightly. They serve very fresh fruits, but unfortunately that's that. They have tea and coffee, but would be nice to have an ice cream station like Seoul? (Might be asking too much perhaps - maybe 4.5 should be 4.8).

Price we find is reasonable at $38.00 for adult considering the quality of the food. The service!!! WOW!!! These are prime example of what we need in the Perth hospitality industry, courteous, knowledgeable and very friendly. Our family love these guys! They are simply nice folks.

Good luck Hwa Ro. We wish you all the best as the new owners. Well done on all you've achieved to date. You guys should be very proud.

Most amazing Korean BBQ buffet I ever had!!!! Had dinner with my family few days ago and most of the food was definitely perfect and also the steamboat has fresh meats, seafood and veges and the udon noodle was fantastic. I recommend that the place is best Korean BBQ & steamboat buffet.

I went with 3 friends. I been there previously and it was not bad. This time, the price was cheaper $31 per person for steamboat and BBQ. The lady said we have 2 hours and any wastes will be charged $5. We walked and there was only one table occupied. The "hot" food were cold. The meats were there for quite sometimes and i didnt see an refills - as they probably think they dont need to as there hardly anyone. The service was non existence as the only waiter there was too busy with his phone. Couldnt find any serviettes, and had to ask - turned out they hid behind the counter!!
I doubt I will go back again

I went to this place with 4 others. I initially called to book and was advised they no longer do Al carte ordering. They offered $25 pp all you can eat korean bbq and steamboat buffet. Given the value I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

Tables were decent with the extractor fan meaning you didn't walk out smelling of bbq. Service was lacking particularly at the start where we had to figure out you had to get your own cutlery and plates. The steamboat gas burners had no gas bottles until you asked for them and you had to figure out how to light the hot plate burners yourself.

The selection of meats was fair and the staff did refill them quickly when required. The quality of meats were poor though and I often found myself over masticating the meats or spitting it out as they were far too chewy and fibros.

Vegetables were fair and the prepared foods (fried chickens wings, glass noodles, pancake, sushi) was average. The soup they provided was plain, tasteless and not even salted.

It was a disappointing meal but you could still eat 25 dollars worth if you wanted to. I didn't enjoy my experience but looking around the restaurant there were many Koreans who seemed to be eating their full 2 hours worth. Perhaps this place is for those accustomed to this place but if you're after some korean bbq I'd go looking elsewhere.

Price for buffet dinner on weekends $29. Sounds good ? I made reservations but when there at 7pm, seems it was okay to walk in without reservations. By 8 more patrons have walked into the restaurant. The lady boss briefly mentioned that $5 per pax will be charged for wastage. And 2 hours limit for buffet. I did exceed 2 hours but they did not get me to leave the table given there are still empty tables.

Was pretty lost given my first time there. Not much orientation given by the staff. Instead you got to figure out that you get your own cutleries, plates and bowls. And figure out how it works after a while. You can have both steamboat and BBQ style for your food.

They do refill foodstuff but slow on refills for certain foodstuff. They do have seafood like mussels and prawns. But each time they refill the quantity refilled is little. Given there are many patrons.

They have pork bone soup which was super bland. Potato noodles not refilled in that 2 hours I was there. Fried chicken was good.
Kimchi was not nice as well.

A one off experience for me. Doubt I will head back.

Korean buffet at $35pp. Yes please! Great value for money, authentic and fresh ingredients. As part of the price, you also get cooked dishes (Korean fried chicken.. Omg!).. And fresh fruits. Love it

Great Korean all you can eat restaurant! They had cold crab and the bean curd rice rolls which were my favourite! Kimchi was great and I loved the hanging exhaust pipes to prevent you from smelling like bbq after dinner. The only downside is the lack of drink variety.
Hannahbarden92
Our weekly favourite!. This is our absolute favorite restaurant! We try and eat out here at least once a week and we always leave happy :) The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, food fresh and delicious and price, extremely fair. So lucky to have Hwa Ro in our neighborhood!

Dinner at Hwa Ro Korean Restaurant, Northbridge, Perth. I and my daughter went to have dinner last night, 13/9/14 at Hwa Ro Korean, in Aberdeen Street. I just wanted to try the food compare to other Korean Buffet in Perth. The foods are very clean and tasty and there are also the hot foods are ready to eat at Hwa Ro Restaurant. I like the BBQ, I did not get smell after dinner. All the meat for BBQ are also very fresh and I like the brown rice to eat with BBQ pork belly and Beef rib dipped in the sauce. Hot and Spicy crab soup is so good. I give score to all the food 10/10. I will definitely come back to have dinner again with friends. Hwa Ro is the best Korean Buffet BBQ in Perth. I travel to eat every week-end all over the place. Finally I find the right place to eat At Hwa Ro in Aberdeen Street,Perth for Korean BBQ Food. A lot of selection foods that I can eat in the buffet.
Cheers, Helen Munteanu

Has the best rice out of all the Korean restaurants (I believe red or black bean rice)? The Ventilation for the cooking is designed so you can eat without leaving smelling like Korean BBQ. BBQ plates are neat and easy to cook! Love this place.

The kimchi soup was too sour, the other soup was too sweet. Food were not worth it for its price

Came on a Monday night, was seated quickly. The first staff member who tried to serve us realised we weren't Korean so we were given another waiter. Service was quick, food was good, I like the button on the table to call for service, made the experience a little more authentic. However we ordered the fried chicken and this dish didn't come out until after we had finished everything else and we only ordered one crushed pear drink and was given two (after telling this to the waiter, he just left it there on the table anyway).
Also it was a little annoying having to move out of our seats when they had to change the coal for the BBQ over. However overall good experience, would return.

Been here before and had no problem but went tonight after work and one of the dishes we had was the stir fried pork, which came out with 5 cent piece size pork and a whole lot of veggies, we complained and were told it's the right portion size of pork, also has a few other dishes which were very bland and tasteless, very disappointing and will not go there again
Wrap 'n' Rice Thai Cafe
Reasonable price. Better than Thong 86 on every side.

Love Korean Food!!. This restaurant really reminds me why i love korean food so much. I really enjoy cooking the bbq meat and the steamboat. It was really awesome, I'll definitely comeback for more!
Jenn_uine
Yummy food and excellent service. One of the best korean bbq in Perth! Really like yukhwe (raw beef with egg yolk)!
Dilectio
Staff are very welcoming not like other Asian places, the manager speaks good English and has very good understanding of what they serve at the restaurant, big portions, great value for money, and the taste is also good too. I wouldn't say "authentic and traditional" food but this is what modern korean people eat these days.. and the atmosphere is also like korean bbq places in Korea too.. I will be back.

Nice food, reasonable price, and good service... Had the pork kimchii hot pot and it was great with generous portion.. Will sure go back for more
ILoveFood
The place was packed on a Monday night! Tried the bbq, hot pot & a seafood pancake which were all lovely. Very helpful & friendly staff, as we were not familiar with the many types of BBQ. Reasonably priced, we'll definitely be back again!

Yummy.. This place never disappoints. Moderately priced Korean BBQ in Perth, with nice ambiance and authentic feel. Unlike other BBQ places, they have exhaust fans for each table, which means less sweat and ickiness while you eat. Really like the duck skewers and dipping sauces. I especially love how they use black rice! Service is attentive, and prompt to refill side dishes! Nice for group gatherings. Expect to spend around $25-30 pp for a good fill.

Chicken Thighs. Yes they take time to cook but genuinely the best item on the menu. The staff are all friendly and very helpful in deciding dishes.

First time to the restaurant last week, we really like the good variety on the menu and because there were just 2 of us, we needed to make our decision. We went for the beef bulgolgi with mushroom stew & seafood pancakes. The generous serving of the stew can easily feed 2-3 hungry people. The stew accompanied with 4 small cold dishes and 2 bowls of rice. It was really nice that they served Korean black rice. It's a healthier option & I like the fragrance. I find the stew was a bit to the sweet side, I prefer it to be less sweeter. The seafood pancakes were the highlight. They were served in 4 medium irregular rounds. They are thin & non greasy. I will certainly go back to try out more from the menu e.g skewers, chicken wings, BBQ, etc
Hardrockcafe
I recommend the spicy seafood soup, we have it every time we go there and u must have the wagyu beef!! Service is good! But seems like only the manager could speak good English. I definitely recommend this place!

Mashita!. Set out to eat Korean BBQ and this place was recommended by many. We booked for Sat night just in case - and we were glad we did, as it got really busy from 7pm onwards. The staff were really friendly and kindly answered all our questions - recommending better deals/quantity for money. We ordered the meat combination and there was ample meat for the 2 of us. Loved the condiments, seasonings and rice was delicious (red bean). We were recommended a cold soup which was delicious - even on a wintry night. Clean, love the red walls and screens showing KPop videos. The best thing was not having a smoky smell on our clothes/hair after leaving the restaurant! Will be a great place to go in summer too!

Korean bbq without the smell. Went on a saturday night and the place was packed.. definitely try to book in advance (don't bother calling in the arvo because no one will pick up!) service is quick, all it takes is a push of the red button on the table. the girl who took our order wasn't very fluent in english and repeated our order to us in korean... which left us a bit confused. the ventilation is a LOT better than all the other korean bbq places we've been to - didn't leave the place smelling all smoke-y and oily. had the kimchi soup, chicken skewers, plate of assorted meat and seafood pancake. nothing fancy about them, just good, simple food. it was a great place to have a casual meal & drinks with a few friends! will definitely be going back soon.
Hendrik
From the outside it doesn't look special but when you walk in it changes 100% to ++. Great food and service with authentic styles and food utensils. We would come here again
OnePointFive
Very Authentic!. Nice setting (reminds me of actual Korean restaurants in Korea) and nice food (especially their pancake basket). It's officially my second favorite Korean restaurant!
Pris
Not worth it. Service was efficient - manager was great and had he served us he would have been able to familiarise us with all the types of korean dishes and how to eat them. We had other that gave us wrong orders and who couldn't really assist us when we had questions.

I'm sure the hot pot and the other dishes were nice though I can't imagine returning anytime soon. As a party of 11, I would say we had a fair spectrum of the entire bbq and grill section + kimchee soups and pancakes as starters.

Overall it was expensive, food was not outstanding if not unmemorable, side dishes servings were tiny and we sat at the bbq indoor area (painted red) - acoustics and ventilation was bad. A tipsy party was having a good time understandably, but the walls amplified it to the rest of us.

Highly recommend...food was really good, nice korean wine, nice envirnment. will defnitely go bk again.

Not what i expected, food is not tasty and i ended up with an excruciating stomache ache after dinner. The service was not as good as i expected and the heat was unbearable. However the interior design is quite fine. Bye hwaro

Great experience: Authentic, good value and delicious Korean BBQ. Highly authentic Korean BBQ place! Meats are fresh and tender, ambiance is casual and pleasant, and staff are friendly and keen to please.
Other non-bbq dishes are great as well, the Korean pancake is one of the best ones I tried in Perth. An added novelty is the ability to bbq skewers of meat at the table. The skewers automatically rotate alongside the charcoal briquettes, cooking the meat evenly while allowing some of the fat to drip off. Overall a value for money and highly enjoyable dining experience!! I'll definitely be returning.

I know this Korean restaurant from a friend of mine that had come here for I don't know how many times. She said how awesome this restaurant is and this is why I finally came here with quite a number of people. When I first walked in, I can see how authentic this place is with the exhaust fan and different kind of stoves for bbq and steamboat. Also, the server gave us different kind of side dish. All I can remember is the kimchee, glassnoodles and pickles. I must say, my favourite one is the glassnoodles! I can't even remember how many times we asked for refill. We ordered the seafood pancake and roasted chicken wings as our appetizers. I was pretty satisfied with their seeafood pancake. I love the chicken wings as well, even though one of my friend felt like it is too sweet. My other friend ordered the beef bulgogi soup as their steamboat. They said that it was too sweet and overpowering. I ordered the Pork Kimchi Soup and I must say that it is much better than the beef bulgogi. It is

Hwa Ro is a definite option if you are hankering some good authentic korean. You can tell that it is fairly authentic as when we were dining, we were surrounded by koreans and they would definitely know where to go. The service is quick as they use the buzzer system where by you call for service by pressing a button situated on your table. Overall a good catch up with half the smell!

You’d probably balk at the idea of having to cook your own food at a restaurant, right? I mean, you’re already paying for it, so now you’re in charge of preparing the food, too? Ludicrous. Hwa Ro Korean Restaurant in Northbridge is doing just that… and customers are coming in droves. It’s all thanks to Hwa Ro’s winning combination of nifty tabletop cooking stations (complete with charcoal barbecue, automatic skewer rotator, soup burner and smoke-gulping ventilation chimneys – the only set-up of its kind in Perth), killer kimchi and a constant stream of K Pop music videos. Oh, and a team of Korean wait staff who not only tell you when your meat needs flipping, but also seem genuinely happy to bring you your third complementary dish of sweet potato noodles. First timers might feel a bit lost with the menu. It’s long, and has some curious menu items. “Pork shoulder butt”, anyone? Newbies are often told to try Hwa Ro’s signature dishes like the kkochi – skewers of duck, pork belly, chicken
WenY
The girls found this dish yummy albeit being on the sweet side. What surprised me was...
Jojo
I had a glance when I got in and customers were all Koreans.. I thought.. this is a good sign hehehee

We had a great time at Hwa Ro and left with full bellies. The cooking was fun and our meatfest delicious. Our waiter’s English wasn’t very good and had trouble understanding what we wanted (she was clearly fine when dealing with tables of Korean customers); thankfully, the manager intervened before bemusement resulted in frustration. Jac was fascinated by the enormous pancakes and the hot pots bubbling away on adjacent tables – I guess that’ll be our next meal at Hwa Ro – hopefully it won’t be too long before we meat again.
Mei
Hwa Ro’s barbeques are beautiful, they are fuelled by briquettes which give food that mouth watering, smokiness where you can almost taste the food before eating it.
Perth Food Engineers
Overall it was a nice meal and I would be back again to try their Kkochi set, assortment of meat on skewers which you can bbq on the table. The service was ok although I think the waitstaff needs to be more proactive in explaining the dishes especially to people not familiar with korean food. That would definitely be a big help!
