Review The Honeycake Fremantle Markets - Perth

A MUST try when you're at fremantle market! These cakes are just simply amazing and super delicious! They're not cheap (A$37 for the big box, A$27 for the small) but it's worth the price.

Ive been eyeing this Honey cake off for a few months & decided yes its Honey cake time. Seriously this is the Best Cake I've ever eaten. It was worth the wait. I had my cake delivered to my door, now that's service. My advice...do it, you have to experience this cake.

The honey cake was surprisingly soft and easily melt in the mouth. Although the sweetness of the cake was slightly lesser than the sweetness of the honey, it was still tasty and addictive. $37 for 450g is still worth it. Great for dessert. (2021-08)

The shop attendant always looks so grumpy and fed up with life every time I visit this place? They are so stuck up and never smile. I asked if they could mix the two flavours? And got a very abrupt β€œNo we don’t” and went back to her phone. My visits are like a year apart and nothing changes! πŸ˜• The cakes are delicious though! πŸ‘Œ hence the reason to my visits.

Oh my gosh 😍 so damn good we made it our wedding cake. It tastes amazing, our guests went crazy for it. And after eating the leftovers for a week after our wedding I still LOVE it. Can’t wait to come back to pick some up for our wedding anniversary. Or perhaps a little sooner 😘❀️ PS. Much cheaper than a regular wedding cake. And WAY more delicious. Thanks guys βœ¨πŸ™

Diehard Honeycake fan since day dot. This cake is amazing. Gets a bit sweet but perfectly balanced when having with a hot cuppa. Can easily down a whole small box to myself. I usually get these as presents for my birthday as others know how much I enjoy eating it. The different sizes available make it a good gift idea for different occasions and price points. I'm glad I have introduced so many of my friends and family to thile Honeycake who have turned out to love it as much as me πŸ₯°

Delicious cake, something different and the staff was nice. Definitely worth trying when you are at Fremantle Market.

Absolutely love honey cake! The staff are always friendly behind the counter and the different idea are always coming out! Although you can’t beat the original which is what we are always back for!
Vina
Staff was very friendly and nice. She allowed us to try every single flavour. My fave is pandan and coconut which has a light taste yet delicious. Second is original. It is the sweetest but it comes from honey. The chocolate one comes the latest, not too sweet but I barely tasted the honey and choc.

Great layered honey cake tried at Fremantle Market.Β I brought it to home to enjoy more of it! Awesome delicate taste, but difficult to eat at the market with all crowds.Β Just take it away and have it with a cup of strong coffee.

My trip to Freo market has always been highlighted with getting honey cakes! They have added a new flavour, chocolate honey cake, probably half a year ago and it has been a big hit! Very generous with giving little samples out, give it a try and I can guarantee you would want another slice πŸ˜‰

The Honeycake – Shop 40 Corner Henderson Street and South Terrace, Fremantle (Fremantle Markets). Shop B3B Corner of Saint Georges Terrace & Barrack Street, Perth CBD (Treasury Building Basement). 58 Southside Dr, Hillarys (Sorrento Quay Boardwalk). Pictured: original honeycake. If you live in Perth and you have never heard of The Honeycake, then you must be living under a rock. The Honeycake is an amazing Western Australian cakery that specialises in a very special cake obviously called the honeycake. It is a traditional Czech layered cake that offers a unique combination of thin and light honey flavoured cake with smooth, creamy caramel sandwiched between the layers and topped with fresh walnuts and honey crumbs for texture. They now have 3 shops in Perth: Fremantle (first store), Perth CBD and Hillarys.

Love honeycake! Love the flavour, I always want to buy a big piece but can never finish it all because it can be sickening. Would be great with tea. On the expensive side for a small cake

I really enjoy the Honeycake. I find it quite sweet though, but still very tasty!! I like this stall at Freo markets- lots of samples on offer and variations of the Honeycake
More Than Nourishment
If you haven't tried their honey cake before, the stall always has small free tastings which goes to show that they are confident you will make a purchase after you try it. Even though it is slightly on the priced side, it is worth it for the quality of the cake. It's layers are so delicate and you can see how much effort it takes to make it (knowing from experience by trying to make it myself at home). For me, it is on the sweet side so just a small piece is satisfying enough.

I'm not someone who likes cake, however, the Honeycake is something I always end up purchasing when I'm in Fremantle. The original is the best, the layers and the inclusion of the honey make it an unbelievable cake. The cake melts in your mouth, it is great with ice-cream, however, it's best by itself. This is something everyone needs to try.
LittleGirlBigFood
This cake is unbelievable!!! Words do not describe! Little layers of honey heaven at $5.50 a slice. I highly recommend as it's like nothing you have had before. The original cake beats the chocolate hands down
Dpizzy
This cake is quiet an expensive cake but you can taste that it is worth it in the quality. It is so rich and thick and the flavour is beautiful

Apparently this is Fremantle's special thing? Hmm. It wasn't bad but I think it is too sweet. And the price is ridiculous. If you are curious about the taste, just buy a small one. It's enough for the whole family :)
Littlemisspiggyeats
A must try. Such a beautiful moist cake thats not too sweet and you only need a small slice to hit the spot Whilst it is exxy $20 for a smallish slab it did last a few days and was a nice change my usual go to chocolate in and with everything

If you haven't tried the famous honey cake before, you're missing out. The decadent layers of melt in your mouth caramel and cake. It's smooth, it's rich and it guarantees to satisfy a sweet tooth. Be warned, a tiny piece is enough and best served with a cup of tea.

It is quite pricey but perhaps justifiable by the quality of the ingredients and the amount of testers they give out. There is a gluten free version now but I'd like to see more of a range. Maybe even a reduced sugar one as it is incredibly sweet?
Monmon
The cake was so nice and melted in your mouth straight away when you eat it. It's pretty expensive for a small cake but thinking about ingredient that they used free range eggs, honey, etc i think it's worth the price. It's a little bit too sweet for me though but it's personal choice, I'm not a sweet tooth so I can't eat it more than a piece
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
The Honeycake is dessert heaven! Whilst I've never visited the store, I've purchased the cake at more than one event and market place and if I know they're going to be somewhere, I'm there! The cake is melt in your mouth divinity. Layer upon layer of moreish, sweet heaven. You don't need a lot as it is quite rich, but worth the extra calories! Ha! Do yourself a favour - try this place. It's dessert heaven.
OnePointFive
Addictive cake! It's so good, but cant eat too much at a time since it's so sweet. Best to eat with coffee or tea. Better to buy a medium size for $20 than 2 tiny ones for $10! Thank you Hubby for this Mother's Day treat...

I'd say its safe to believe the hype. These guys used to change locations in the freo Markets, but it now seems they have a permanent stall which is great. Very sweet but delicious and rich at the same time. It is expensive for what it is, but a great treat

Best cake everrrrr !!!!!!! A bit expensive for cake but worth the price !

I just passed the store and then tried a piece of cake...OH MY GOD !!! The honey is filled in my mouth. This is the best cake that I haven't eaten before.

I was really excited about this cake but overall it was just okay...
Too sweet for me, and a bit pricey I have to say.
It was nice to try tho!
This is a must try! This is the best cake I have ever tried hands down, and goes really well with a cup of coffee πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ‘ŒπŸ» the honey cake in the photo is from the Perth shop (I've already eaten a slice - oops), it was $20 for a 5 serve slab, (this is the smallest other then a single slice) but you could prob squeeze 7-8 serves from this. I am addicted.

Hands down this is one of my favourite cakes and it really is one of a kind too. The sweet honey flavour coupled with oozing buttery creaminess, with nuts of top. Definetely a must try. Usually the lady who owns the shop has some samples to taste if you're lucky!
Cassie
Yum, the honeycake is such a treat! The cake is light and fluffy with the sweet honey flavour. Can't resist getting a bite of the free sample every time I'm at the Freo Markets.
PerthfectBreakfast
Everyone raves about Honeycake like it's the best thing since sliced bread! It's okkaaaaayyyy I guess. Too sweet for my liking but I never say no to a free sample each time I walk past at the Fremantle Markets. I don't think I could eat a whole slice though. They now have a gluten free option too!
LadyEvar
I cannot fathom how they fit so much flavour into such tiny layers. This cake is amazing and famous amongst everyone who has tried it. Best to eat a small piece at a time. This cake isn't a mere snack to satisfy cake cravings, it's a treat to be enjoyed,
EnjoyinGodsBlessing
It has "legendary" ratings for a reason! It is sooo yummmyyy and addictive >.< all of us including my picky daughter loves this... We could finish this big box on the same day... They say it lasted for 10 days in room temperature, for us probably lasted 1-2 hours hahah... It is sweet, like really sweet - almost tasted like a sticky date pudding... My kinda desserts :p green light for the peanut allergies: u can eat this - as the top is walnut :)
Pennae
A bit too sweet for me! My friend described it as a cakey baklava. I can see the appeal and it would go well with a coffee or ice cream (or both!).
Triple_V
Oh my gawddddd whoever invented this.... I lurve youuuuuuu!!!! Too gooooooood! Perfectly layered honey cake. Just cannot stop the spoon from digging into it. A must to get when you visit Fremantle market.
CiderCraze
Expensive but so addictive! Can never resist the temptation of this wonderful honey cake. A must try at Freo Markets, or wherever else they sell them now...Nom Nom Nom
Cluelesstraveller
The honey cake tastes really good, might be too sweet for some people but I love sweet things. Sadly they are too expensive, a small box is around $20. But the cake is really good. Go inside the freo market to try first before you buy.
Pris
Expensive but good. Quite sweet and not cheap but such a treat when I allow myself to have them.
We have seen this as a wedding cake too - it displays well and it doesn't dry out.
yummy

Magic magic, love it...

The best honeycake in the world. Seriously gotta try them out!!
Food Lover
First I tried this at a market and thought yeah it was alright. Then I tried it for second time, bought the large box and I am hooked! Last week, a friend bought the large pack for me and I ate the whole lot within two days! Love how light it is, not super sweet and the crunchy walnuts hhmm yeaah yummo!!!!
SugaredDoughnut
Nice flavour and replication of honey. It was soft and delicious!
Queen Of Bad Timing
I first came across the honeycake in a complimentary pack sent to me from Whitford City promoting their Saturday markets. And it was so, so, soooooo yummy! Moist, only slightly sweet, and light as a feather. I fell in love instantly.

There are a number of cake and dessert stalls but The Honeycake caught my immediate eye and after sampling a bite size portion of the cake I had to take a slice home for later. Another reason to visit the farmers markets is the opportunity to taste the various products!
