Magic on Ferrars was a cafe serving Modern Australian brunch food in South Melbourne. Coffee was great and I loved how it came with a "fortune". Food-wise, we ordered the apple crumble and corn zucchini fritters. I really enjoyed the apple crumble; it was warm, hearty, and not too sweet despite the custard. The fritters were very nice too; flavourful, good texture combination and generous in portion. Staff were friendly and service was prompt.
Magic is the perfect spot to grab that snack between dance classes on Saturday. Their smoothies, coffees and porridge is perfect. The porridge is truly exceptional and I'd highly recommend it as the creamy texture and variety of toppings truly makes it unique. Their coffees are big and bold too. Awesome spot. đ
Magic is my spot. They have the best coffee in the area. My favourite thing to order is the BLAT. It's so delicious, the portion is large and it's really well priced.
Been to this cute little cafe twice now and never disappoints. Really friendly staff who give great service and the food has been fantastic. Canât recommend the avocado smash or the fritters high enough!! Coffee also goes down a treat - will definitely be making this a regular brunch spot.
Went there for brunch on Monday, obviously not many people there as it was Monday. Small place But lots of Outdoor space if the weather is good. Very friendly staff. I had the brekky bowl which was amazing, very fresh and flavourful bowl. Very filling. The salmon and avocado and the seeds , everything just went really well together, I really enjoyed it after a workout as well. My friend had the brekky tower which was delicious as well, smaller portion but enough for breakfast and beautiful ly presented.
Brunch was awesome here this morning. Coffee superb and a quotation for the day as an extra kick .
Went low carb this morning with a healthy bowl which was insane. Kale with roasted tomato, mushrooms, goats cheese , avocado , poached egg and bacon. Finished it all and could eat it all over again. Definitely be back for some more Magic
Was surprised to see a cafe open on Good Friday! So we hopped over for coffee and some food. Coffee was really good, and each comes with a little quote to put a smile on your face.
Service attentive and quick, we were regularly checked on throughout our meal. We were seated after a large group so had to wait a little before our food arrived.
There was heaps on the menu to choose from. Amongst us we had the fritters, benedict, grilled chicken burger and salmon rosti. All were really good, with my favourite being the rosti.
Will head back for more :)
Ok coffee with a lovely touch (inspiring quotes that continue to make my day).
Good seating outside on a lovely residential street.
Customer service is straightforward and neutral.
A regular take away/quick coffee stop.
Melbourne City offers heaps of brunch options in many different hip areas but that day I decided to give Magic a shot knowing people have been saying some positive things about it. The place is rather small but luckily we got a table. Staff were extremely friendly, attentive, they even gave us some cookie sampler! Off to a good start.
Whenever I spot corn fritters on any menu, I'll always go for that. So of course I had to order the Magic Fritters which loaded with stacked corn and zucchini fritters, magic relish, poached egg, served with bacon. My goodness it was an awesome dish! The corn and tomato bits on the side were so fresh and lemony. So good. Crushed it. It instantly put a smile on my face. Another order was the Smasher, with extra smoked salmon. A fresh, delicious and healthy dish.
Price wise, it's pretty high but those stackers made it worth it and the service was really good sooo that's a definite yes from me.
this restaurant is small but good quality food. I ordered green linguine, my friend had superfood salad. The flavour is top notch and the presentation is good as well. Definitely will be back next time. Good place for my mid week lunch options
Magic is a cosy little cafĂ© right on the corner of Ferrars St in South Melbourne. Thereâs limited seating inside, so not the best for bigger groups. Breakfast options are limited but they do have all the basics like eggs, fritters and smashed avocado. Food is decent and coffees are good.
This place was a bit out of our way to get to but good to get out of the cbd. It was rather small cafe and the tables and chairs a little impractical (couldn't tuck your knees under the table and felt in the way) but the food was good and the decor really cool. It looked like a hit with the locals as many people who grabbed a take away coffee or left after breakfast were greeted by name.
Really beautiful little place. No frills. Good food and coffee. Â Great place to catch up with a friend and have a dnm, relaxed vibe, service is friendly and staff don't hurry you on. Also loved the art work on the wall ;)
Cute and cozy little spot. No frills and doesn't pretend to be.
Great food. Great coffee. Super friendly and attentive service.Â
Sweets cabinet - on point!

Great local cafe with the friendliest staff ever! We were greeted warmly upon our arrival and were seated straightaway. Ordered the matcha scrambled eggs and kale power bowl, dishes were simple but definitely yum!
Friendliest staff around in a homely neighbourhood cafe. Considering the small size of the place the menu is surprisingly broad and more importantly is ultimately delicious. Adding to that it seems they're able to concoct any drink to order, an iced mocha herring a welcome treat in this hot weat@her.
"I do so like green eggs and ham" but I just like Nutella hot chocolate a lot more. A cozy spot away from the main shopping strip to sample their cafe fare. My first time trying matcha scrambled eggs and it's a good experiment. The milk crate tables add to the homely feel of the place.
Lovely neighbourhood cafe that serves delicious food and coffee. Great customer service as we were seated outside but owner checked on customers outside quite frequently. Prosciutto salad and Cheesy fritters were delicious and generous with ingredients. Owner gave us a yummy salted caramel donut to share.
Magic on Ferrars is a great little cafe. Coffee is spot on, staff are friendly and meals are always generous and delicious. It's dog friendly too so bring your pooch and enjoy a coffee in the sunshine.
Magic on Ferrars is one of those local neighbourhood gems, tucked away from the main drag of South Melbourne on Ferrars St. Situated on a street corner this relatively unassuming cafe with just a sign in the window and a blackboard outside can be easily missed. Seating is modest with maybe half a dozen tables against a wall inside and a few more outside. The menu consists of the usual Melbourne breakfast and brunch affairs with a focus on organic and locally sourced ingredients. There is also a selection of baguettes and a burger of the day, todayâs was a chicken breast with brie, rocket, tomato and Spanish onion on a brioche bun. For some reason I get very excited over melted brie on burgers, something I believe is quite underused, so Magic definitely ticked the right boxes. Table water was served in a cute metal mug that youâd find back in the date at school camps.Coffee options were a bit of a surprise from a small neighbourhood cafe with range of espresso, filter and cold drip options from St Ali.
Great cafe and the staff are so friendly , nice atmosphere. The coffee is great, nice meals also. Good seating outside also , north and east facing . Well done guy's

Food here is hard to beat - and the owner looks after both new and regular customers. The coffee here is the best in the area and the food always comes out quickly.
My favorite ice latte and pasta here. The most important thing in life is that Ash is good for my asthmađđđ
Try to be a full time here~~~ hah
Delightful staff, excellent service and yummy food.
A perfect combination for lunch.
Reasonably priced, plenty of parking around the area and simple, wholesome (in a non-douchey way), healthy food.
I'll definitely come back and visit again!

A Big tick on their Customer service, the owner is extremely friendly and accommodating, he gave us free donuts to share as well.
Love that rose lychee donut as its my fave.
The coffee latte art is just too beautiful to drink.
I ordered a matcha fritters with salmon and scrambled eggs(again, they are very accommodating willing to change the menu thumbs up for that!)
Only thing is the Fritters needs a bit more seasoning maybe some creamed corn smokey paprika or anything that matches with smoke salmon, I will personally think the matcha is not necessary in the dish.
Sorry I am giving too much of my opinion but I genuinely love this cafe, it's one of the most welcoming cafes and I am sure I will revisit them in near future.
Mr LB:âMagic is the ability to influence events by employing mysterious or supernatural forces. The term doesnât resonate well when referring to the art of cooking or styling brunch dishes; but yet, we have all suggested â at some point â the kitchen added âa little bit of magicâ to heighten our senses. A little mystery to the cooking process can produce a phenomenal dish, that in-turn pulls in the weekend 11am brunch lines. The weekend just passed, I ditched the magical hunt of the âin-demandâ brunch and chosen a little unknown local favourite in South Melbourne â Magic.
Magic On Ferrars South Melbourne is one of those places that you stumble across and wonder how you didnât know about it before. Ashley Kniveton and his wife, Verlyn, have created a hole in the wall cafe which is all about exceptional coffee, a focused, quality food menu and great service.
Been here a few times and very consistent friendly service , tasty and interesting specials and great coffee .. Though small and little crowded when busy can bit of a squeeze .. Seems to be local secret .. Had a double espresso , juicy and bright with Indian rostti something .. Funk tunes and owner operated a must ..
On the corner of Bank St and Ferrars St lies a cosy little cafe isolated away from the main shopping district of South Melbourne. It is accessible by the #1 South Melbourne Beach tram, getting off at stop #26 for Ferrars St/Park St, followed by a short walk. The entrance is on the Bank St side of the building. I tried to enter from Ferrars St side and it was locked, but I thought it was stuck and kept pulling. The staff took notice, with a wave of his hands they cast some magic on the lock and
Long time no brunch in South Melbourne! Had to go for theming day in Crown this morning, so I finally managed to drag C with me in such early hours. Very friendly staff, they are so welcoming. It's a matcha day for me. Match a latte and matcha fritters! Such a big portion for my fritters, I couldn't finish the last piece. The poached egg on mine was a little overcooked, otherwise it was amazing! Definitely coming back for more!
Cosy and friendly place, but a little too cosy that people squeeze through and made me not very comfortable having breakfastđstaff are very friendly and coffee is very good.

This cosy little cafe offers its customers a fun, fresh & welcoming atmosphere. Serving coffee by St Ali & a tasty line up of breakfast & lunch options..... Read full details on melbourniancritic.com.au/magic-on-ferrars-south-melbourne
Really enjoyed my brunch here! The location is a little bit far off from the main street in south melbourne but it was definitely worth it! The duck omelette was really good and so were the purple pancake! Highly recommend them. The cafe has very cool decorations and Artwork. On top of it all I would to point out that the staff were absolutely delightful and entertaining :)
Magic is the place to go!!! It caters for any type of person wether your wanting a guilt free meal or to just have a absolute hearty fun plate of goodness!! Full of happy faces serving you who will go above and beyond to ensure your content! I will now go out of my way to pay a visit as they love their regulars and always want a chat!
Coffee was obviously perfect and will reach Melbourners high expectations with flying colours!
Just came here for brunch on today. Very friendly staff and the beef burger was amazing. Definitely will be back soon to try the other stuff in the menu.
I came, I saw, I ate, I came back again and ate again. I think this cafe is my life now. The food they serve is almost the way my mother makes. I live around South Melbourne and came across this cafe,  went it for lunch and was instantly blown away by the bright, friendly faces that welcomed me, you will not feel out of place there, they will make sure of it.  I had a bowl of their fresh and hot minestrone soup, washed in down with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and had this sweet called a "scroll" and it was a cookies and cream variety among many others, and  I'm pretty sure the scroll was laced with a potion that forces people to want to come back. Because believe it or not I will be for sure.
The hospitality is 5* and the food hearty. The coffee is delicious. Cookies n cream scroll is my favourite followed by the carrot cake. #ilovedessert
It's almost disguised on the corner of Bank and Ferrars street in South Melbourne, a small little cafe with exceptionally friendly service and good coffee. I ordered one of the specials, beetroot and cumin purée on sourdough with poached eggs, and standard me, I always opt to add bacon. Overall it was really nice, although I couldn't taste the cumin as much as would have liked. My only criticism of this place is that the chairs and tables are a little awkward, there doesn't seem to be enough room under the table for your legs, so you either sit fair away from your meal, or have your legs off to the side awkwardly. Definitely a place to stop by on your way to the markets.
I had a "scroll" for the first time in my life and let me report ... I AM SOLD!!! Like I am totally all in, 100%. I was expecting a cinnamon bun/roll similar to what I grew up with back in Cali but there was something just a little different. So it reminded me of my youth but at the same time a new experience. We all shared the salted caramel (salted caramel is one food trend that I hope never goes out of fashion, the last 5(?) years have been awesome due to this flavor marriage) and cookies and cream with our hot chocolates and coffees. The cookies and cream was amazing. Like seriously stupid good. This little shop seats more people outside than can fit inside which I feel brings a lot of charm for a neighborhood locale. I had the daily special which was steak and a grilled portobello with hollandaise and the ubiquitous roasted tomato. I added a poached egg. It was fantastic. The veggie zucchini cakes with bacon and poached egg was totally legit. And it is a compete pleasure to add that despite this little place being very busy, the service was fantastic!!! First rate! If a customer wants a breakfast at a table with tons of elbow space and room to spread out, this is not the place for them, but I think the tight quarters add to the ambiance and the entire aesthetic.
Solid breakfast menu and top coffee. Beef burger was the flavor of the week. Another pattie and corn fritter were added . Corn fritters were awesome, bacon cooked crispy and the ingredients were fresh. Beef a more of a rissole style but was flavorsome and didnt take away from anything and the gravity defying tasty cheese. Smashed avo was a hit. Some more seating would be ideal.
First brunch of the year! Glad to be back in Melbourne!! (after my food journey in Thailand) .. Here at Magic on Ferrars, the food is average but the service is outstanding! Great coffee & staffs are very friendly and thank you for the FREE donut!! âșïžđđ»đđ»
Luuuuuuvvvv this place!!! Been there a few times. One of my fav in Melbourne. The owner, also as one of the waiters, is so friendly and funny. Above all, love their food!!! The fritters are amazing! Sometimes the Today's Special is sensational. Had a roasted duck omelette last time, which was one of the epic ever!!!
This will become my new local coffee place! Delicious food and coffee, friendly staff and love the set up. I drive past here every morning and have been meaning to step in for ages. Well worth it, very impressed and a very happy tummy!
Amazing little café in a beautiful Melbourne suburb. I was visiting from Sydney and this little hidden treasure was recommended by friends. The coffee to start was gorgeous, I had a very simple breakfast of bacon & eggs which were yummy. Great service with the guys making you feel very welcome and an lovely Irish chef was an added bonus.
Dropped into Magic for a coffee and couldn't resist the Carrot and Ginger soup. Absolutely delicious! Always yummy delights at Magic. Great Food, wonderful staff and a cosy atmosphere on a cold winter's day. A winning formula.
A cute little hole in the wall cafe. Super friendly wait staff and a great menu with Paleo options if you're that way inclined. My only complaint is that the seating and low tables with milk crates underneath them aren't the most comfortable - my back was a little sore by the time we left. The highlight was definitely the coconut milk Nutella hot chocolate that I got as a takeaway at the end and took back to work with me. It was OMG-amazing!!
for those reading who may not be melbourne-based, we victorians are currently experiencing one of the coldest winters in a while + certainly the coldest iâve encountered since moving here four years ago. sure, its not exactly snowing and -13C (like that one christmas that i experienced in new york)⊠but itâs still pretty flippinâ freezing thanks to that incessant + icy antarctic wind. however, unlike london + new york, at least the sun still comes out to play + youâre not left stuck under a cloud of miserable grey. speaking of miserable grey⊠my recent invite to (re)visit to magic on ferrars in south melbourne contained nothing of the sort.
Had a relaxing brunch here. Ordered 2 specials which is the beef burger and the salmon on rye. The burger is great especially the bun. The salmon on rye is similar as egg Benedict, but still taste nice.
Came here for brunch. The coffee was really nice , and the burger special was delicious ! Service was also great ! Will definitely be returning !
I've gone here for afternoon snacks and it's always been good. I had the Nutella hot chocolate and it tasted amazing. Perfect for winter! The chocolate and marshmallow brownie is the best - so fudgy and delicious. The chai lattes are good here too. The staff is friendly and always so happy. The only downside is that it's a really small cafe, so it can get a bit squishy.
Great fresh tasty chicken baguette for lunch. Interesting menu well prepared and served by friendly staff. Definitely come back again.
Conveniently located and lots of parking.
Great service, food and coffee! Ash always makes you feel warm and welcome. Little local neighbourhood gem. One of my favourites! Can't go past the fritters. :)
We love this little place! Having gone out on a limb to bring a crowd of 10 friends to this place is never been to, myself and co. were shown great service and priority even on a busy, sunny Sunday morning. Ash (our waiter and possibly the manager) was witty and energetic and even threw in a free salted caramel donut for fun.
Food was good, coffee great and atmosphere fun. We will be back to this cute little red brick cafe! Thanks for a great brunch.
Awesome service! Awesome Coffee!. Great coffee all the time! Friendly service!
Best coffee in South Melbourne. Love this little place! Great coffee and the couple that run it are so funny and friendly!
South melbourne gem..... Quirkly little local cafe - coffee is great, service is fantastic, staff are unpretentious and they serve tasty breaky that can be modified to your diet of choice (paleo/GF etc)... what more could one ask for? corn fritters are the bomb!
Best all round cafe this side of river. Great cafe . Probaly a cut above others as a bit of a trifecta
Great cafe !. Fun , clean healthy food with lots of treat aswell . Great coffee , and service . A must try!
December 16, 2014 December 16, 2014 / inlovewithbrunch can you believe we are halfway through december already?! âŠÂ are you as exhausted as i feel yet? in all of this hurrying, i definitely recommend taking some time to smell the roses, reflect on the year that was, and prepare yourself for whatever 2015 may hold (i know iâm certainly needing some perspective in amongst all the madness) â and what better way to take a time-out than with a coffee + brunch in hand?! which is where âmagic on ferrarsâ comes into my long un-abbreviated introduction⊠this great cafe was a much-needed respite before commencing a crazy weekend. it is a short walk from the south melbourne markets
Top reviews. Magic on Ferrars is one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. I come here atleast twice a week... Amazing coffee and incredible service. The food is also very delicious, I recommend the Corn Chilli Fritters with bacon & the weekend specials are Rad.. They change every week but my favourite is Brioche French Toast with Bacon or Sweet Chilli Pulled Pork bun = YES!! Great atmosphere, staff & all over experience, a must try cafe when your in melbourne. 5 stars.
Greatest breakfast and coffee in Melbourne
Cool cafe and good. Great place . Enjoyable experience all round great staff . Perfect coffee
Great local. My local and always consistent. Well done guy great corner.
Fantastic food. Amazing Service. Will always make my trip to the markets a little longer just to pop in here. Love these guys. Definitely now the best in South Melbourne (I've tried most of the competition!).
Magic corner. Cute cafe on the corner specialising in healthy food and niches . Perfect service and coffee and healthy delicious
Food options . Lovely sunny spot on the corner and always welcomed with a smile a must brunch destination .
Ticks All the Healthy Boxes. I visited Magic On Ferrars on a weekend at lunchtime, craving a healthy & fresh experience over the traditional decadence and excess characterised by the weekend.
I was not disappointed.
It seems all dietary requirements are catered for her - from paleo to gluten free (although they ran out of GF bread on the day I visited). They even serve almond milk with their coffee - a big hoorah for the dairy intolerances and ant-soy brigade in Melbourne.
My simple chiken salad was plentiful, satifying and very reasonably priced. My girlfriend also seemed pleased with her 'paleo breakfast'. The coffee was quite drinkable too.
All in all it was a good experience, and may prove to be my 'healthy cafe of choice' for now and for the future.
Outstanding. A little gem on the corner. Will be back!
Awesome little cafe. I dropped in today to try it out.
Latte was really nice and went well with the peanut butter & chocolate cookie.
The ham & cheese toastie was also really tasty.
Will definately be going back eat in next time. Great work guys.
Warm welcome. Great food and coffee but the warm atmosphere and super attentive service makes this cafe a stand out. Highly recommended. Will be back!!
Absolutely love this place! What a little gem. Excellent coffee and a breakfast menu to die for with a great regular menu plus daily specials. Really friendly owners too who have the most impressive ability to remember names and orders of regulars. Reasonably priced too which is a nice change from the other south Melb extravagant options nearby. Pop by at least once weekly for my fix!
Magic at Magic. For a city that raves about having the best coffee in the world, Melbournians when asked that question can never give a definitive answer, it's always, 'try here, or that place, or i can't remember the name of it', well Magic is the answer to that question. Take note of it's corner location, sit outside when there is light above, let the team thee make a positive difference in your day.
Enjoyable. Cool place . With a lot to offer. Full brunch menu and st ali on tap . Always rember ur order and name . A must visit on the brunch scene
Small but excellent. Magic is unusual . Small cafe and unique . Quirky staff and attentive. Had the chicken salad and long black and Both where tastey . Service was spot and cafe was busy. Nice people great coffee a d food . My new local
This place is the shiz. Come here everyday for coffee before work. Comes with free smiles and coconut milk if you're that way inclined. Love a bit of Magic.
I never understand why anybody doesn't like this place. Another rippa breaky and coffee guys see u next week
Quaint, friendly, local, delicious, colourful and efficient! This place is lovely and although a stones throw from the hassle and bustle of South Melbourne market it is like a different world. Thanks for the hospitality and that excellent mango smoothie đ
Food was good, especially the Mexican eggs. Prawns in pasta were overcooked though. Service was friendly, but struggling to keep up with the number of guests, and at one point she even had to help wash some dishes. No high chairs for children. Overall a good experience though.
Magic is my go to. The coffee is consistently delicious. I regularly get the BLAT which is priced well and super yummy. The breaky tower is slowly becoming a new favourite! The atmosphere is really welcoming too.
Nice corner café. Staff are very nice and food and coffee are delicious. Didn't have to wait for a table. I had the magic fritters and my sister and partner had the Power Brekky Bowl. If you come to south Melbourne market, try finding parking around this cafe, have brunch here then go nice and calm to the market. Indoor is quite small but if the day is nice, you can get table outside that fit several.
Great spot on a the corner of Ferrars street. Service was a bit slow but the staff was excellent and so were the food and coffee. We ordered a few different dishes and they all hit the mark! Portions could be a little larger but the flavours were spot on.
Coffee was good and have their own little spin of the usual food, which was a bit of "fresh air" when you compare to so many other cafe within the area.
Cosy, with extremely friendly staff you feel like you're eating amongst friends.
The burger was literally top 5 I've ever had.
My gf rated the coffee as great/amazing/tasty/incredible, or basically no word described how good it was.
Her food was just as good.
