I think it's a very busy place but it is worth it, the lunch specials are good price and tasty, they offer free rice tea, potato salad and kimchi. The lunch comes with a nice miso soup. I will go back and try the pancakes and the chicken.
Credit where credit is due! We have been ordering regularly from Restaurant Gangnam for a while now and it's squarely at the top of our list. LOVE their food. Today our order wasn't quite correct and after a phone call to them, the manager personally came to our office to deliver the missing meals AND some freebies. Now, that's service!!! Everyone's human, mistakes happen, but it's how you recover from them that makes the difference, WHAT A GUY!!!!! Have also dined in at this restaurant and equally amazing food and service. Fave meals - Beef Jap Chae and Kimchi Jeon. Top notch 5 stars ALL the way! Don't miss this one.
Oh and don't forget the fried chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice shop, well ventilated, clean and cosy. The food is not that spectacular, but the bibimbab and kimchi are DEFINITELY worth a try. The kimchi is sooo good. Like seriously, when they have enough supply, they will sell it, and it tastes really good. Also, the bibimbab sauce is magical. The beef one is my personal fave and it tastes really good with the sauce.
Contrary to popular belief, ginseng chicken soup 🐥💦 isn't traditionally eaten in winter to keep people warm. It is eaten on the 3 hottest days in summer 🌞 because it's believed that eating a medicinal soup will replenish the nutrients lost from sweating. Maybe I should have been Korean all along, I drink hot tea in summer and eat icecream in winter.
With that said we're not in Korea and can now taste the iconic dish this winter at @GangnamPerth 🤗. The whole young chicken was stuffed with rice, ginseng, red date and purple potatoes, boiled till tender and meat literally falling off the bone 😋. I actually ate a lot of the bones because they were so soft and just disintegrated in my mouth. There were mushroom floating in the broth, shredded omelette as garnish, as well as salt and pepper on the side to season to taste. The soup was very mild and pure in flavour but got fatty towards the end as it cooled so you might wanna eat it quickly while it's still piping hot.
If you're into #KoreanFriedChicken 🍗 you must have @GangnamPerth at the top of your list. We totally adored the crispy, golden and crunchy batter, along with the juicy flesh in each and every piece. I don't normally like my fried chicken drown in sticky sauce so the sweet chilli on the side was more than enough.
LA beef ribs 🍖 marinated in garlic, sugar and soy sauce was sooo delicious, I'd definitely recommend eating them with steamed rice to fully appreciate the sweet and salty sauce. They weren't the cheapest things though, with 9 thin pieces costing $23.
Although the main dishes were more than satisfying, Restaurant Gangnam sadly don't have the best kimchi and bean sprouts 🌶🌱. I found them both rather bland and lacking seasoning.
Great value for lunch price, otherwise it’s a bit on the pricey side. However, the foods are great. Love the bibimbap. Spiciness level, medium. More on sweet side.
Someone recently asked me if I liked Korean food. I had to really rack my brain and try to think about what Korean food I’d actually eaten before. I could recall thoroughly enjoying Nene chicken wings last year, but that was about it and also a visit to Arirang Korean BBQ many, many years before, but that was about it. So I was excited by an invitation to Gangnam Restaurant Perth at the Waterford Plaza in Karawara because Korean is a cuisine I’m really keen to learn about.
Take Me To Foodie Heaven
+4
Located at Waterford Plaza, Karawara is neighbourhood Korean eatery called Gangnam. Gangnam is a relaxed eatery that has an extensive menu of Korean food and delicacies from soups to Korean BBQ. We had the Seafood Soft Tofu Jigae ($17) which comprised of mixed fresh seafood with tofu, vegetables and a dash of chilli in hot spicy soup. I love Korean soups and how heartwarming they can make you feel especially on a rainy day. To me, Korean soups are definitely comfort food for the soul. The seafood soft tofu jigae at Gangnam was deliciously heartwarming and had a lovely hint of spice to it. I really enjoyed the soft textures of the tofu floating around in the soup.
Great food with great lunch specials, not really for kids or families though as they are geared for students or those who work nearby at the university. If you do come here with a stroller, you may struggle. Best to come outside of their lunch rush hour.
Ordered the tofu bibimbap, beef bibimbap and the rib soup. All delicious and well priced because of the lunch special. They do rotate their specials from time to time.
We ordered the seafood and tofu casserole for main and fried oysters for entree. It was really yummy and we absolutely loved it. However, the service was quite poor. Not very attentive waiters due to short staff. Definitely will visit again !
Gangnam never and ever disappoint me once. Amazing food as always. Love the spicy pork bimbimbap, pork bulgogi and , solf tofu casserole, KIMCHI ❤️.
Been here couple of time , service always been good even when the restaurant was very busy. Food was quite tasty especially the pancake and japchae. Had the beef bulgogi, wish there have more beef in this dish. Really enjoyed the soup too, great on a cold rainy night.
Love the food at Gang Nam. The service is top notch, always obliging and easy. When we had a lot of leftover, they let us took the food home and even separated all our food in so many containers. The cheese buldak, jap chae, bulgogi and spicy seafood soup are amongst my favourites on the menu.
Been here previously for dinner. We had japchae which was really yummy and there were lots of beef in the dish. Reasonable price and big serving. Highly recommended!
A casual, well priced, cafe style Korean restaurant.
We had the Bentos for lunch, a Spicy Pork and a Beef.
Great flavours and a filling lunch time meal.
The spicy kimchi and the tofu were good accompaniments.
Decently priced meals but nothing to get hyped over. We tried the crab and seafood casserole and my friend was pretty pleased with the flavours and spice but I would have liked to see some ramen or something in the soup too as there wasn't a lot of seafood in the pot.
Good food, good location, great atmosphere, ample parking and dessert options nearby for afterwards. Menu is suitable for individual meals or to share. Love the cheese buldak even though our mouths were on fire and I went through almost 2L of water. Chatting with a staff member after our meal we were informed that you can make it less spicy but I do highly recommend trying the original at some stage too. I can't handle spicy well but I will still get it and eat it; my stomach so warm afterwards :P
Also recommend Mushroom japchae and Kimchi pancake ^_^
Only con was table was set with minimum number of napkins, essentially one per person with maybe one spare; would be okay if they were thicker
One of my favourite Korean restaurant. Love the ambience, decor and food.
Some of our favourite dishes:
~Beef Japchae
~Soft Tofu & Seafood Casserole
~Seafood Pancake
~Cheese Buldak
Sizzling bulgogi meat dishes are also generally good; well-cooked and tasty.
Not very keen on their Budae (ham & sausage) casserole or Kimchi, Pork & Dumplings casserole, but would definitely recommend their Yuk Gae Jang (spicy beef soup) and Seafood Jigae.
My favourite Korean BBQ restaurant. Although it's a little pricy and the protions are a little small, the flavours and tastes definantly overpower the two factors. I love the decor, atmosphere and how friendly the staff are.
I've been here a number of times and every experience is always great. The food has a great amount of flavour and always taste so delicious. Some dishes I really love and recommend are the bimbimbab, bulgogi, tofu steak and the noodles. They're definitely a must try.
The only food that I didn't like from them is their kimchi pancake. It didn't have much flavour and the texture was really soft with no crunch element.
Overall I love this place and their food and would definitely recommend. If you haven't tried Korean food before, be sure to give this place a visit.
Ordered budae casserole, cheese buldak and kimchi pancake. Kimchi pancake seemed really healthy with the addition of carrots and mushrooms and is not as oily as it usually is. Cheese buldak was tasty and spicy. Budae casserole was average, not fantastic but not bad tasting. Was definitely not a fan of the side dishes which were on the sweet side
Fried chicken Strip $8.00
Seafood Pancake $15.50
Dok Bok Ki $17.90
Cheese But Dak $24.00 was divine
Very warm and friendly Korean staff. Decent price and big portion. Recommended!
We have eaten here a few times now and am yet to find anything that isn't fresh, delicious and absolutely yummy! Love Restaurant Gangnam... will be eating here lots!!
Located at Waterford shipping centre is Gangnam. Same cheap and delicious meals as the one at Carillon food court (upstairs) but this one also offers Korean bbq. Order at the counter and water is self service
First visit to Gangnam Karawara last night - hubby and I shared the beef bimibap, mushroom jap chae, and a kimchi pancake. Pancake was a bit too oily, but the other dishes were terrific. The hot stone dish was still hot at the end of our dinner, and we were scraping the rice from the bowl - Yum! Friendly service, was busy on a Sunday evening around 7.30pm, but we got a table within 3 minutes of arriving at the restaurant without a table booking. Looking forward to trying some other dishes next time.
Second time here and we tried different dishes this time. Still very happy with our choices. The beef and mushroom casserole was delicious and great for the cold weather. The chicken strips were quite addictive. I would, however, give the tempura prawns a miss. The last time we came round we had the beef bulgogi which was very tasty.
Love all the food here. Pretty expensive but it comes in a big size. The service was really friendly and helpful. We'll definitely come back again!
Been here twice (dinner and lunch) but didn't review last time. Cant remember what we ordered for dinner last time, but everything was good and service was as expected from typical Korean restaurant, quick and efficient. For lunch we ordered lunch special dishes: Chicken Bibimbab, Spicy Pork Bento, JjaJangMyeon & Jjambong. My (picky) Dad ate almost everything. Mom loved her Bibimbap. My sister's JjaJangMyeon could be better. My Jjambong got generous amount of seafood and broth got nice seafood taste and not fishy. One thing I don't like from eating here was the smell sticking on whole body and cloth due to open kitchen. I guess that cant be helped.
Awesome Korean food that would leave you wanting more. Chicken buldak, Pork bulgogi, japchae, seafood pancake are all a must! Great quantity and good price. Perfect place to hang out with friends.
Totally love coming here. I would recommend getting their bibimbap dishes and if you like something spicy maybe try their duk bok ki. Their noodle dishes aren't bad too.
Heard a lot of good things about Gangnam and came to try for lunch. Ordered dishes to share - beef japchae, beef bulgogi, kimchi pancake, and kimchi, pork and dumpling soup/stew. Everything was fantastic but the standout was probably the japchae. Yummy hearty food perfect for winter. Staff ar very friendly and price was good ($18 each for 6 people). Would definitely come back to try lunch menu.
Love this Korean restaurant. I have been a few times. And they put additional menu for each season.
In this cold weather, soup always the best option to keep your body warm.
So I tried their spicy seafood noodle.
😍😍😍definitely recommend it. You should try it. Love everything about this soup
We also had fried chicken as side dish.
Nice and crispy too.
A hip and modern eatery serving an extensive menu of traditional Korean dishes. The serving sizes are quite big for what you pay for. My friends and I ordered the crab and seafood casserole to cook in the middle of the table. The seafood was quite fresh, except the crab, it just wasn't springy crab meat but more on the mushy side. They had little dishes and of course Kim chi to accompany the casserole for 2 ($42). The broth was delicious and flavoursome. The bibimbap bowls were super hot till the end. And the seafood pancake was ok, a little under seasoned. Staff were super friendly and attentive and gave great recommendations and happy to answer our questions. Great little place to have dinner on a cold winter night, food to warm the Seoul (soul...see what I did there haha)!
One of the rare Korean restaurants in the suburbs. Been here a few times now and the service is average but the place is often busy. This time ordered the Yuk Gae Jang (spicy beef & veg) soup, Gal Bi Tang (braised beef) soup, Combo BBQ plate (beef, chicken, spicy pork) and Seafood Jeon (pancake). All dishes were flavoursome, but nothing standout from other places, though it wasn't too bad. The beef soup had quite a strong beef flavour to it - some might not like it. Meats were marinated well, so that was good. It's a place you can come back to.
A very good variety of dishes and choices, they have delicious Korean food here. Different types of meat and vegetarian options, they also offer cheap lunch time bimbibap specials. It's not the most romantic place but for a quick tasty bite it's a good place to go.
Went to Gangnam Restaurant for lunch! I Ordered Bibimbab pork and YukGae Jang (without rice tho😅) i really love my food and i can't get enough with korean food! I will come again to try another korean dishes! For those who loves korean food should come to this restaurant!
The first time I came here was with friends. I wasn't expecting much. Ordered the seafood hotpot, fried chicken, eel, and mandoo. God, they were all so good. Especially the fried chicken. We ordered the half and half. So fresh. So crunchy. I missed the fried chicken so much I came back the very next week with my sister and she liked it too.
Had the Korean chicken salad and pleasantly impressed by how tasty it was. I would go back for more. It was as colourful as it was refreshing and flavoursome. Adding some Kimchee to it made it even better.
Love this type of food...quick, tasty and great value for money.
Not sure of the name of the dish, but it was rice, vegetables and bbq meat. Absolutely beautiful.
Had some lovely fried dumplings as well.
Great food, lovely staff and BYO! We had the kimchi pancakes, beef bone soup and many more. All delicious. No corkage fee and we had a group of 10.
One of the nice korean restaurant around the area :) they recently started to do korean fried chicken, we got the mixed one.. The spicy one was better in my opinion, tasty and crispy.. It comes with some salads on the side to.. Some great dishes from menu: japchae, beef ribs, cheese buldak and bone broth soup.. Location is convenience and staff are friendly too😊
A nice restaurant located at waterford, right across curtin. It was a busy Sunday evening but that didn't slow down the service.
We ordered bulgogi which serves in a sizzling hot plate. The portion can be considered as big; a portion cost you $19.90 and it is big enough for 2 people. The taste was as expected. I do have to rate them lower due to lower quality of beef. We were able to taste the fat in the beef and suspect that it might not be the best cut.
I am pretty happy with the service and quality and would recommend this place. Would be great if they can improve the menu to include more variety of korean food
More Than Nourishment
+3.5
I went here on a random Monday for lunch. The place was packed! There was a variety of different lunch specials. I decided to have the spicy pork bulgogi. For $10.80, it was a decent serve. Food came out quickly for how busy it was. It was hard to eat, particularly when I like to drench my rice in the bulgogi sauce. The actual flavour of the dish was nice but definitely not spicy enough. I really liked the kim chi.
Celebrated my cousins birthday and we were allocated a nice private corner for the 10 of us.
I thoroughly enjoyed the beef bibimbap. Only thing missing was a fried egg which I had to add on. Plus, my arms had a good workout mixing the ingredients with the two sauces.
I think the only disappointment was the Korean pancake which was pretty bland. Having chunks of Spring onion certainly does ruin the overall eating experience and it would've tasted nicer more finely chopped.
Ok! Two days after my first real dinner at a Korean restaurant, we went to Gangman due to my sister who loves this place.
Now i wanted Korean BBQ that uses charcoal. This had no charcoal or even anything to grill or cook on a hot plate.
We ordered quite a few dishes as the extended family came along. (They know i review every restaurant i eat at. Some of them even have Zomato accounts haha)
Anyway here are the dishes:
Combination Bbq; had three different types of meat. All the meat was bbqed by someone standing at the front. Why take the joy out of someone who wants to grill his meat. There was plenty of meat but the taste was ok. No bbq flavour. Why not call it "sizzling hot plate" coz i think it would suit the restaurant.
Pork Bulgolgi: best dish! This was on a sizzling hot plate. We poured the rest of the sauce to our "bbq" combo.
Grill Ribs: on par best dish (haha is that possible?) Ribs were tender and beautifully marinated.
Beef and Chicken Bibibbam: nothing special about this dish but i would imagine that it would be comfort food like a beef teriyaki.
There were some other accompliments but at Tong86 were better (I thought anyway and my taste buds agree)
Service was really good. It's a newish restaurant.
If the place was named differently I would give it a higher score but to say Bbq and i only see a hot plate, shame!
I love Bulgolgi!
This was my second time here, had a craving for Kimchi Pancakes and this place does them extremely well. Instead for a change we decided to order the Seafood Pancake, it was lovely and crisp and the Seafood was cooked perfectly, even the squid was tender and the dipping sauce its served with brings it all together and makes it super tasty.
We also order the Bul Dak which was something we hadn't tried and were curious to know how spicy chicken covered in melted cheese that sits on a bed of onions tastes. We were pleasantly surprised it was tasty but not for the faint hearted as it was rather spicy. We ordered a noodle dish with vegetables but found it extremely oily as we had found with there Beef Bulgogi that we had ordered last time we dined there.
I haven't been here for a while but the food is still as good as I can remember.
We ordered the beef bibimbap and squid bibimbap; simple and humble dishes, always been my old time favourite, yet they are sooo delicious. The beef had very good flavour, but the squid was a bit chewy.
Then we also ordered the sizzling beef ribs; which was the highlight of the night for me. The ribs were so tender and juicy, and it was packed with lots of flavour, it was so good.
The service was good, all the staffs were very friendly.
Nice and decent Korean restaurant where I would come back again. I remember the last time I came and we ordered the cheese chicken buldak (which has 2 chilli on the menu indicating the spicy level) and it turned out to be super spicy (they should probably mark it with 10 chilli on the menu)! We didn’t finish it. So when we came back again yesterday, we asked whether it is possible to make it less spicy or not spicy at all which they can do it – in fact they make us a special cheese chicken buldak with soy sauce which is actually pretty good (it came with a note thought that they are only doing that because it wasn’t as busy as usual – so I can’t guarantee if you come with the intention of the soy cheese chicken).
Overall the food is great, the pancake is crispy and tasty, the ddeokbokki (soft rice cake) tastes and smells amazing – this is Ji Hyo and my personal favorite when I go to Korean restaurant.
Love bibimbap, although they don't put the soft fried egg on top here like I'm used to, but still really nice and you get to choose which meat you have (eg: beef, chicken, eel, tofu, mushroom or kimchi). My partner has never had Korean before so he was a little dubious, but he decided to be adverturous and tried eel bibimbap (I had beef), and he really liked it, even put heaps of chilli and the spicy kimchi on it, when he doesn't normally like too spicy. Definitely be back to try some other dishes and maybe the combo bbq one day.
One of good Korean restaurant i ever taste. We could have free hot water and tea which could be fill up anytime we want so don't bother with drink if you go there. The foods are nice, my fav is their bibimbap. I love their decorations as well.
Been here many times because its near my uni. The food is always delicious and value for money. Love their seafood pancake when it nicely done and crispy base. Nommmmm
This restaurant offer authentic korean foods. Even my korean friends give them a thumb up. Try many of their dishes are all great and tasty.
Food was good and staffs were friendly but you know what's absurd ? $2.50 extra charge for lettuce refill and mind you, it was only 5 very small pieces of lettuce.
Pretty happy here with this bbq. The supply the regular staples from Korea and a few cool non-alcoholic mixed drinks. Service was friendly enough and for a Korean fix in this area, can't go wrong. We also had the BBQ and the amount was adequate and meat was good quality enough. You'll enjoy yourself here, even for lunch.
nice food and service, served hot and fulfilling. never go to the other branch at carillon city mall because they served the bibimbap rice in warm almost room temperature which is worst way to eat bibimbap.
One of the better Korean places I've been to. Nice interior. Had gun mandoo (dumplings) which were crispy. The galbi tang (need bone soup) was so tender
Good Korean restaurant which offers small snack dishes, individual mains, hot pot to Korean bbq. Absolutely recommend their seafood pancakes (avoid the kimchi pancakes as it was not as crispy) and Galbi Tang (beef ribs soup)! Remembered from my earlier visit that their bimbimbap was tasty too.
Pretty good for the area. A bit pricey but good quality.
The restaurant had a casual and friendly feel to the place. the waitstaff were friendly for asian restaurant standards. We decided to start with the Kimchi Pancake, I have never been a fan of Kimchi but have come to like Korean food over the last year or so. The Kimchi Pancake was a tad salty but it has the right crunch. As usual with any Korean meal, the condiments of Kimchi and pickled sides are served with dipping sauce for the barbequed meats. The condiments served are certainly fewer than other Korean restaurants but tasty nonetheless. The Mushroom Bimbimbap was a nice break from all the barbequed meat. It didn't have the crusty crunchy rice I expected but it was still tasty. When we decided to order the Combination Barbeque meats of Pork, Beef and Chicken, we did not expect the amount of meat that appeared! The meat was full of flavour although a tad on the salty side. Thankfully we managed to finish all of them over the course of the meal, we almost considered takeaway at one point but decided to power through it. Overall, it was a pleasant meal and the parentals enjoyed it. It was fairly good value for money as well considering the amount of food we ordered and how full we were by the end of the night. J.
Good, but a little pricey. Been here 3 times now and the food has been good every time. Prices are a little on the high side for Korean food though.
Good Food. My wife and myself went to the restaurant for dinner.
Dishes ordered:
Seafood pancake, seafood soft tofu jigae (tofu in soup) and beef bibimbap.
Overall 4/5. Even though it was crowded, the food came fairly quickly. The seafood pancake was pretty large. Overall the dishes tasted good
Simple delish lunch. I took my mum heere to eat and suprisingly she love it. I would eat this everyday since it is light and tasty. Sides, water and hot tea was provided FOC equals bonus. Staff were nice and friendly. Overall satisfied tummy
Tasty food and quick. I went here with my friends on the weekend. Food was really good and came out quickly. whether it is authentic i dont know since i am not korean but was tasty cheap and fast so will be back
Bibimbap wasn't the best- had shredded egg omelette instead of a fried egg on top. The marinated meats and seafood for bbq and the bulgogi were nice though.
Excellent customer service. We were given free drinks as an apology for our food arriving late, but we only waited about 15minutes which I didn't consider late at all. Lovely atmosphere. Very friendly staff. definitely coming back here again.
Nice.. Spicy soup. Yum!
I love this place. Great interior, and very inviting.
What I least enjoyed was some of the staff were a bit offstandish, but maybe they were just having a bad day.
Great food, reasonable price, inviting venue. I highly recommend!
Best stone bowl bibimbap in perth! Service was quick and friendly. Food was to rave about. Mushrooms japchae was yum too!
Gangnam Style!. I have only been here a couple of times and my first impression was that it looked a bit too franchise-like to be any good. The waitress who served us was virtually undecipherable but she got our order right in the end. I had one of their hot stone bowl rice dishes with the sauces and the kim chi. Excellent flavours and a bit of theatre is always good. Went back again and it was equally as good. It is full of asian students from Curtin uni which is a general sign that they are getting something right. I will have to try the Korean BBQ next time. The carparking around Waterford Plaza can be a bit of a nightmare but other than that, this place is great!
Had dinner last nite n it was so good as usual:) n im gonna try wid d new menues so soon future!! Yay~~
Thumbs up for the bibimbap! Another good spot nearby to satisfy my random Korean food cravings
What a gem...loved it, friendly staff and a wide menu to boot. Good pricing., fresh food served quickly with heaps of flavour....I will be back...
Have a love for Korean food and having been Korea the food at gangnam is really comparable. Been here a few times and they have some very authentic dishes and the casseroles are an experience. Service is great and you get all the side dishes and service you would expect. Recommend this place if you are keen on Korean food. Casseroles and galbi tongue dish is quality.
YUm. First visit and not the last. It's good and reasonably priced fare for those who live around the area. We had their spicy kimchi soup hot pot which was ok. I had their squid dolsot bibimbap which I thought was quite unique and they had beef bone soup which was very flavourful.
Will return!
Lunch special at Gangnam Karawara, service was fast, but felt like the meals quality had reduced and the portions were a bit smaller now, used to provide free flow of tea, but now only water. Kids liked the original fried chicken. I had the spicy pork bibimbap, the taste was more to the sweetest side, I had had better spicy pork somewhere. Overall it is an OK meals.
Gangnam is one of authentic Korean restaurant in Perth. The food really delicious. The fried chicken crispy, the seafood pancake also good. If you want soup but not spicy, gal bi tang soup one of the best! This restaurant is famous with bibimbap in the hot stone.
The rice cake also really delicious. We will comeback again to this restaurant!
Delicious food and great service - the server was friendly and funny and made sure we were seated as soon as possible, even though the venue was full at lunch. Try the chicken Japchae!
Excellent place but recommended to come early before crowd comes. Meat platter is good and reasonable priced.
Great ambience serving delicious korean dishes! A little bit overpriced so expect to spend. Otherwise, highly recommend!
It's quite pricey but food r fresh n yummy
