My go-to coffee shop. I've been going here for years and the coffee is consistently great, as is the food. Friendly, helpful staff and a relaxed vibe. Love this place!
Friendly staff and lovely food make The Counter a great little local café in Petersham. The dishes, especially the Breakky Burger, weren’t pricey and would definitely come back for it!
a cafe that changes their "specials" everyday! 😍👍🏼 we're lucky we got to try today their TRUFFLE PROSCIUTTO BRUSCHETTA with Smash Avocado, Ricotta and Mango! 💚💛❤️ // @thecounterpetersham, #petersham

Great cafe in petersham! Very relaxed with friendly staff. The staff are quick to take your order and always checking in to make sure you have everything you need. The avocado on toast was great! Perfectly poached eggs.
Great place to catch a snack. Delicious sandwich and a great range of cakes. Friendly quick service. A little loud but cafe intimate cafe feel.
Nice little café, good coffee and quick service. I had the smash avocado, which was nice, however the egg was a little undercooked. Will be back to try the selection of teas!
Located close by to Petersham Station. I stopped by here for a quick takeaway breakfast. The service is both nice and quick. It was quite busy with most tables filled inside and outside.
I scanned the cabinets full of delicious cakes and pastries and settled on a Pecan Pie. The pie had a nice shortcrust base and a crunchy sweet filling. I also got a Chai Latte to go with it. I liked the blend they used.
My local cafe. Coffee and table service consistently great. Try the chef's special of the day, often inexpensive and delicious. Busy in the mornings but good to sit in for an hour or so in the quiet afternoons. Closes at 3pm so don't go too late. Best cafe in Petersham, beats out Brighton on the Corner, The Pig & Pastry, The Tiny Giant, Daisy's and The Butcherbird easily.
Consistently fabulous spot. Today had scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Not sure what they did to the mushrooms but they were delicious. Great coffee. A favorite.
I was very impressed by the banana cinnamon smoothie here. It was thick enough so as not to meekly surrender to nothingness after a few hard straw drags, and also cold enough to imagine that it would be refreshing on a hot day. The breakfast burger was also very tasty. Would come back here.
Popped in here after initially headed to the Grumpy Barista who were not serving breakfast. The coffee is by Alchemy and really good. Full of flavour and smooth. I got the smashed avocado with marinated feta, two 63° eggs, cherry tomato and chilli gremolata on sourdough. Really light and delicious.
Some of the best coffee in Sydney me thinks. Friendly neighbourhood vibe. Can't say I've ever been super interested in the food though. ....
Yes we all are over the milk crates and boxes to sit on, and wooden chopping boards our food is served on, but if you look past all that ... The Counter is a great little reliable local. The coffee is Coffee Alchemy brewed, but sometimes not up to the Coffee Alchemy standard, maybe they ran out of the beans a few times I went in there. Since opening they have remained consistent with great fresh baked cakes, great sandwiches, good food offerings on the menu and most importantly staff are friendly, I have been a customer here since opening in 2012, and I can say that is one good thing about The Counter, so keep it up with your fun and friendly staff, hipster or not.

What’s this? “Tables” constructed from pallets and other repurposed materials; potted succulents; drop-shadowed retro font work; a blackboard promising cold-drip coffee; and an all-girl team wearing sensible aprons? Yes, a small piece of hipster Surry Hills has sprung up in downtown Petersham, just ‘round the corner from Little Portugal (and on a street with free parking, no less)! The Cold Drip ($4) made on Coffee Alchemy (from Marrickville) is quite good: fruity, and perfect for a warm day. However if you find yourself sitting in a wind tunnel (as I did), consume yours in a Latte ($3.50) with their signature Beetroot Brownie ($4.50) . Owner Mariella Traina (who you might remember from Balmain's True Religion Espresso ) has come up with...
Delish!. Discovered this cafe just recently and was impressed from the moment we stepped in. Polite helpful staff, good atmosphere, Great food!! Great coffee!! An absolute gem.
Picollo from heaven. I got a take away skim piccolo from The Counter this morning, and will definitely be staying for breakfast next time. Coffee was super smooth and chocolatey. The place smelled amazing, awesome fit out, and I had serious food envy of the breakfasts I was seeing. Will be back...
Nice friendly cafe. Trendy without being pretentious. Went for breakfast and had the muesli which was tasty but quite rich. My friend had the fruit toast with ricotta, seeds and nuts which tasted pretty great as well. May order that instead next time. Would definitely go there again.
Popped in with my 12 year old son while Miss 5 & 1/2 at ballet. Shared a Nutella bomba. Yum! Tick. Cappuccino not hot enough, remade straight away. Tick. All the dishes landing nearby looked too good so we shared the avocado, feta and poached eggs on sourdough. Sublime, fresh, tasty, happy. Tick. Would definitely come back.
Discovered this cafe this weekend at the festival in petersham. Great coffee and I tried a Nutella bomba. Woaw! Will be back next weekend for breakfast.
Great spot for brunch, food was really lovely. Dangerous for sweet tooth like me though, both cakes I tried were delicious!
Coffee is a bit exy for a place in petersham. this place is basically an opening of things to come in petersham.. the muffins and sandwiches are great. Getting a hipster vibe from this place...
Love their coffee, their friendly and warm service, and especially their Buddha Bowl! Will visit this cafe again.
My go to for really good t/a coffee with super friendly staff. Good range of food to grab on the go whilst you’re in a hurry on the way to work. I’ve never had to wait long and they always have enough people serving to deal with the hoards of tradies that come for the bacon and egg takeaway options.
I love the chicken sandwich, which I often order for breakfast - it's healthy and filling and a great start to the day. The ham and cheese croissants are also a treat and are beautifully toasted. Makes my morning much more pleasant! Thanks guys :)
great coffee, our sandwiches were very tasty and well prepared. the service was top notch. loved this place, highly recommended.
Great coffee and delicious slices. Always greeted with friendly staff who are quick and efficient. Couldn’t fault the place. Also has a cool, Melbourne vibe to it!
Probably the busiest cafe in Petersham, but for good reason! Service is fast, staff are always friendly, and coffee is great.
Undoubtedly the best coffee in Petersham. Period.
Consistent, good coffee, every time.
Super friendly staff and open early.
Great selection of pastries and cakes and a good menu with lots to chose from from brunch to lunch.
This has a great community vibe to it and it's easy to see why they're a favourite among locals.
Absolutely recommend coming here, again and again.
