Great place to grab a chicken burger, quality of the chicken was spot on. The burger is a classic adding with chilli sauce made it 10 times better. Would recommend đ
The greasy burger it self is soggy, thrown in a bulk mayo and chilli sauce dripping in oily fats. Messy every bite!!!!
Terrible service.
Not only it was very busy, the staffs were avoidant and rude.
One of the very old lady which I believe may be one of the owner kicked us out on our table for the new coming customers, despite of having seats available at the back due to the customers that just left. I would be happily to offer my table if I had been given the chance to.
The food overall is ok.
Donât believe some of the positive reviews online it can be misleading.
I grabbed takeaway from here on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the original portuguese chicken burger with cheese, chilli and mayo. I really liked the burger. I thought the flavour was great and the chicken was tender. I also got a side of chips which were nice but a tad oily. I would go back again to try their charcoal chicken and also grab another burger. Unfortunately this place is always busy so you will be waiting for your food but it is worth it. I feel like the service could improve with a more efficient ordering system (e.g. having customers pay first and also letting staff know what you would like on your burger at the time of ordering instead of midway through the process).
Have been visiting this place since I was a kid. People who grew up in the area call it "Porcho's". The grilled chicken with perri perri sauce is an absolute classic, juicy tender chicken, crisp skin, slathered in spicy tangy sauce. The chips are a-grade as well. Chicken burgers also very popular but I'm a chicken and chips girl.
It's so busy even on a Sunday arvo, we had a late lunch at around 3pm.Â
The smell is amazing in this place and it was enjoyable to see the cook at work with the chickens.
We ordered half chicken with chips and a house special chicken (chicken with creamy mushroom sauce with rice and chips). We really enjoyed our meal. The chicken is smokey, flavourful, however I wished it was a bit juicer and not so burnt. The chips is perfect. Boyfriend's house special is creamy and filling.Â
The best part is the sauce. The chilli sauce is tangy and punchy, I love how they offered mayo as well.
Very good meal :)
Can't get enough of Frangos chicken! The chilli sauce is so good! The service could be improved with a proper ordering system in place. It's confusing with people standing everywhere and no one knows who's ordered, waiting to order etc
Best chicken in town! Absolutely delicious and good value. I just couldnât put 5 stars because the service is often not welcoming. And they do not take card!! Which is annoying, itâs 2019!
Honestly the food was 6/5 stars but at first we had a waiter who serve us and she she couldnât be anymore rude, she would ask us about our order then rolled her eyes. When we asked to dine in she just walked off without saying anything then comes back and points to the back and said someone will come back and take your order. We then sat down and not long after another waiter approached us and took our order and was very polite. The food was brought out and it was delicious, it was just our experience with the first waiter that made them lose a star from me.
can always rely on this place for some tasty, gourmet chicken burgers. I absolutely love their famous chilli mayo sauce. they are always packed and youâre lucky to get a seat. their fries are also so tasty; and are the thin, shoestring style.
Awesome chicken shop for a young family. We all love this place â€ïž always exceeds expectations. Best chicken in Sydney by far. Get there and try it out.
A Sydney institution. Yeah, the ordering process isnât organised and the customer service is non-existent. But the chicken!!! Oh, the chicken!!!
If Frango started in 1992, they were the new kid on the Portuguese block when I was hanging around Petersham, but they seem to have outlasted everyone. They really go through lots of proper Portuguese chicken and the burgers have much thicker and tastier chicken than Oporto. The ordering is a chaotic madhouse though and I saw a fight between a drunk guy (probably his fault) and a Portuguese guy who might have thought it was like the old days when Portuguese got served first. Still, it was the best Portuguese chicken Iâve had since Timor-Leste.

Thereâs a reason this place is busy.
Great chicken and chips. The perfect hangover cure!
My preference is the burgers. Make sure you get some of their renowned chilli sauce slathered on the chicken too. Yum.
Do yourself a favour and line up at this place and try the food. We've been regulars over 10 years and it tastes just as good as the first time. Deliciously cooked chicken, great variety of salads and plenty of other options. The combination of the signature chilli sauce and whole egg mayo are to die for.
There is a restaurant in Petersham, Inner West Sydney, that (I think) have achieved the âlegendaryâ status. Frangoâs or âthat Portuguese Chicken place in Petershamâ is probably well-known to most of Sydneysiders. One of the âlegendaryâ issues was that service was pretty horrible in the restaurant. While we have experienced this in the past, their service is quite good now.
Frangos please please please start doing delivery for the love of God and all things good! Sydney is begging you! Also please please keep it up making yummy food đđ»đđ»đđ»
The. Best. Chicken. Ever. Moist, flavoursome and just delicious. The dining room is somewhat crowded (doubtless because of overwhelming demand) and the decor is nothing special but really, itâs hard to fault the best charcoal chicken ever.
We went there for lunch on Friday. The restaurant was so packed and the line was long. However, the staff were friendly and served us pretty quickly so we didnt need to wait too long. I loved the chips and the chicken. I would recommend coming here again.
As popular as it is for a reason. Awesome chicken burgers and no matter how long the line is you never seem to have to wait long. The single with chilli, mayo and cheese is the only way to go. The servings of chips are huge and theyâre nice and thin so you get a good crunch-to-fluff-to-sauce ratio and thatâs all that really matter when it comes to chips, especially when they chilli sauce is so effing good.
We went for dinner last night in the upstairs restaurant and we ate like kings!
The service first of all was great, the food... just outstanding. The chicken and sauces that come with it are excellent. The fries that come are also so nice. We got a beef sword and that too was super succulent. Loved it!
Went there during lunch hour for take away, long queue, waited for 20mins.
Ordered:
Portuguese style chicken burger with cheese
Double fillet with cheese
Fries
Burgers are good. Chicken is nicely marinated and succulent. Goes well with mayo and their chilli sauce. Their chilli sauce is a bit on the sour side, quite spicy but itâs good. Price is really cheap for a big and yummy burger.

Love this place, love the chicken, love the service and love how it's changed my views on Portuguese chicken. So yummy, words can not describe how happy I am with them :)
Came here one lunch time in a group and got some Portuguese chicken and chips. The food was impeccable and the service was really lovely. I would definitely come back again.
Original Portuguese burger (marinated breast filet, cheese, lettuce, tomato & mayo) $6.50. Delicious, generous portion and at a affordable price (takeaway menu) Recommended.
Frango's are famous for two things - great chicken and rude service. You can be guaranteed to get both in their Petersham store. Not a fan of their chicken burgers, I think others do them better, but everything else is yum.

Best Portuguese chicken in Sydney. The peri peri sauce is great. Charcoal chicken is way superior to all other types of cooked chicken. These guys have been at the top of their game for many years.
Has anyone seen the Seinfeld episode about the soup nazi? It pretty much sums up the experience of Frangos in Petersham. They once got my order wrong but I was too scared of the repercussions if I corrected them.. so I just rolled with it.
A Sydney institution. Frango's in Petersham may look like an ordinary Charcoal Chicken shop, but within these hallowed walls is the best Portuguese style chicken.
There are other items on the menu, but if you've never been here before you have to start with a simple half chicken and chips - you won't need anything else!
Prices are reasonable and staff are overall nice, but be warned: this place is very popular, so go early or you may not get a table!
Pro tip: have a bit of mayo with the hot sauce so you can control the level of spice
In Petersham for the Portuguese festival and our friends took us to Frango's. Huge line up but they dealt well with the crowds. Our friends had some amazing chicken burgers which I wished I had tried too. We got a whole portuguese chicken with chill sauce - extremely spicy but very tasty! We also had a few different croquettes - cod, prawn and a beef. Very good. Worth a visit everyone
Good fast food joint option. Good value, huge chip portions, burgers made in front of you. Always busy. Lots of people serving behind the counter but the line is awkward and bit all over the place.
I was in the area looking for a lunch time feed. I came across this place and it was buzzing with lots of people and was in the mood for some chicken. You would come here for the food but not the service. The lady serving me was quite brusque when I asked for a plastic bag to take away my lunch. There is a small seating area inside as well as a couple of tables outside too.
I went with Combo #2 for $12.50 which included Half A Chicken (Portuguese), Chips Or Rice (I went with Tomato Rice) & Can Of Drink. This was good value. The chicken was nice and the rice went well with it.
Friendly staff. Food was delicious. The only problem was waiting on the food. It took 40mins. It took far too long to the point where I wanted to leave. Despite that, everything was great. The floor of the restaurant was slippery due to a build up of oil which is a slip hazard. The waiter who served us was very friendly and attentive.
Next time I would probably just order a burger as it came about in
Only around the corner from my work Frangos has never disappointed. They are the kings of Portuguese chicken and must be noted for such a busy place they get things right
Food is absolutely fantastic. Come for the chicken! It will help you sit through the appallingly rude customer service. be warned - They have weird rules about when and how to order burgers
Went here for the first time and was quite impressed! We had the half chicken and rice and the burger and chips. Everything was so delicious, food came out really quick (even tho it was very busy) and loved the mayo and chilli sauce they gave us! The service was great, they were so friendly and very helpful. It gets so busy here so make sure if ur eating in to make a booking. We didn't but we got a table which was lucky because a few people had to wait after us. There is also a line just for takeaway so that is another option if not wanting to wait for a table. I think the price is quite reasonable, maybe just a little higher than other places but very well worth it. The portion is quite good. Would come again
Zomato's latest update deleted by draft review of this place
Before Portuguese chicken took off with Nandos and Oporto there was this place,Frango's!
The day was our lucky day. I'm hesitant to come to this place as it's usually packed inside and with takeaway, not this day thank goodness
It's been a while but coming with Food_Rampage_AM @INSTA I remembered that the chicken is the way to go. My pork and chicken burgers were filling, the pork burger they put a lot of onion on it and the piece of meat is big and hanging out of the burger. After having my burgers I saw how much Al enjoyed his chicken and semi regretted my decision
Service here is always up and down, probably depending on how busy it is,thus day the food didn't take that long to come out
If your a fan of Portuguese chicken, this place is a must
Great chicken - can get a bit too salty at times, but most of the time it's beautiful, moist and tender chicken with a nice char. Â However, don't expect to get that much meat on your chicken. I usually get half a chicken but it never feels like there's enough meat.
Been here about 20 times in the past year - never ceases to rake in customers due to its great customer service and its quality meal deals. Definitely great customer service - when I ask them to put a tiny bit of chilli on the chicken, they dip the brush once and smear the sauce lightly. That is perfect!
For the burgers, the amount of chicken patty they give you is insane - and you can tell it's real chicken!! And the generous amount of mayo they will give you. Â
And when I say generous, I mean just about everything they give is generous. Â Like how their $2.50 small fries is equal to 5 small Maccas fries. Â Value for money!
Definitely needs a bigger front area - the front area gets much more packed than its restaurant section!

Beautiful succulent juicy chicken 3.75/5, i usually avoid breast meat but frango's is surprisingly not dry, testament to their grilling skills. Dont get me started about the flavours n spices n their chilli sauce.. Loved their chilli sauce.
Unfortunately i didnt get to bite into my dining partner's burgers but was told they were good.
Service a little disinterested from front counter staff but our waiter @our table was much improved compared to the front staff.
Company 4.5/5 (minus 0.5 for not sharing)đ
This place does amazing Portuguese char chicken and the burgers are a steal for $5.50. At lunch time it's absolutely packed. The chili sauce is to die for and the chips are of generous quantity and delicious. Would come here over nando's any day. Staff are however miserable and often mix up orders. I guess it's understandable since I have only been at lunch time.
I've been going to this joint for over 10 years now. I live on the north side of Sydney, definitely worth the drive out to the inner west to get my Portuguese chicken fix đ the chicken taste/quality has changed over the years, not going to say for the better, but their signature sauce has stayed the same and is my favourite! Their sliced potato is divine! (But wasn't so good when I went the other night - not too sure why) đ
Most inner westies seem to know about this place for the Portuguese charcoal chicken. For fans of nandos like me, I became curious upon hearing the rumours that frangos is a big deal, so we finally decided to try it out one Friday evening. Testament to their popularity was the queue inside, but the seasoned workers were churning out orders fast. I saw an interesting offering of salads behind the glass but we came for one thing and that was the chicken. Verdict? Very smokey and tasty as you'd expect, but you'll pay a little premium for the name (and the sauce). Good neighborhood eatery but I would not forego my nandos (extra hot) fix any time soon...
Heard that this place is always super packed so booked a table for four. Unfortunately we were booked for the upstairs restaurant where you cannot order burgers. Had the chicken, chips, rice and homestyle potato slices. Service was nice and quick. Servings were huge which is a plus. Chicken is great, but I don't know if it's the best - it's on par with the likes of El Jannah, etc. Loved the french fries and potato slices. Chilli sauce makes the meal, you can't eat anything without it. Nice and cheap, will be back to try their burgers.
Humble appearances from the street belie the beauty within. We arrived just before 6pm on Saturday night, sans reservation, and the place was chockablock already. They were so lovely, finding us a table provided we were quick (which very much suited us).
The music began when the chicken arrived. How good is this! Perfectly cooked, smoky char yet still moist, abundant serving sizes. Beef skewer really good too, moist and tender, so flavoursome. Shoestring fries and garden salad the perfect accompaniment.
The welcoming vibe is that of a family gathering. Kids made feel so welcome. All done quickly and efficiently with understated class. And the queues down the street for takeaway on our exit were extraordinary.
The other Portuguese chicken place 4 doors up the road was virtually empty. Need we say more.
Remember to book if you want a table, else you will be, sadly, turned away, as so many were.
Well done.
I've heard good feedback on Frango's and looked forward to checking out their charcoal chicken and famous peri peri sauce. The front of the shop looks like a humble chicken shop but they actually have a lot of seating downstairs and upstairs. I order their famous chicken half size ($11, top photo). The chicken has been marinated and arrives cut up. Â The chicken comes with peri peri sauce and is nice to eat; moist and marinated as you expect for Portguese chicken. The sauce is the winner of this dish.
This was a while ago
Stood in line with my friend (we were the only Non-Europeans) and watched the ladies smile and give great customer service to other patrons in line.
When it got to our turn they said "what do you want?" And proceeded to roll their eyes
Haha. Guess the racism makes the chicken burger taste better
Now I just order takeaway to avoid the eye rolling/angryness
Excellent food and portion sizes but they really need more room. I noticed a few comments here about the wait or staff attentiveness and this is merely because the place is always busy! It's always busy because it's the best portuguese chicken I've had in NSW or VIC (I suspect most customers say the same thing). The wait staff aren't rude, they're just very busy serving the customers very well.....they probably need a front of house to keep the waiting customers happy but where they would put someone, I don't know. All of the food is consistently very tasty and very well priced. The chicken, whether it's a burger or my preferred chicken pieces is delicious.Â
All that being said, the Piri Piri sauce is to die for. They could close down and just sell the sauce and I'd be back everyday....
The Portuguese chicken at Frango's is definitely the best I've had. Laden with a not-too-spicy chilli sauce, the meat is moist and the skin is crispy. The shoestring fries are nice (apparently gluten-free) and there's a good selection of sides to choose from. My only gripe is that the service isn't always the friendliest. But hey, with chicken like that, you could yell insults at me while prodding with me with a taser and I'd still collect my order with a smile. Great burgers too!
Had great fun here for dinner. We devoured a whole chicken, a chunk of a cow, potatoes and rice. All absolutely delicious smothered in garlic laden chilli sauce. The beef skewer is a true monster and the chicken cooked to perfection. Good to sit upstairs away from the constant rush of the shop front and be looked after by old school decent staff who deserve the tip you can't help but want to leave. Classic suburb restaurant joy.
If you are going to be eatng Portuguese tarts (obligatory in Petersham) then you may want to eat something savoury first. Frango's could be just the place, a Portuguese chicken specialist from way back. The portions are generous, and the chips are definitely the best accompaniment.

The most AMAZING CHICKEN IN SYDNEY ... My sister and I are chicken addicts, and this is the ultimate location to satisfy this addiction.
I've been coming here since I was 8 years old (probably earlier, but who can remember!). I absolutely adore the chicken here.
The service is great considering how busy it was, the servings are generous ! The chicken is tasty all the way through as if the smoke just saturates the chicken meat. The skin of the chicken is deliciously addictive, with the charcoal essence, the lemon and chilli. YUMMM !
I'm in heaven !
There must be a secret to these chips because they are unique ! I've loved them since childhood and the recipe hasn't changed !
Just writing this review is making me crave Frango's... I need to go back !
Frangos Frangos Frangos. Where do I even begin. AMAZING and the 4/4 on our foodie Saturday.
You know what they say. Save the best for last. And it didn't disappoint.
I came here as a kid and will continue coming here for the rest of my life. Lol
The Portuguese Chicken is just great! Succulent and tender and flavoured to perfection. How do they do it?????
The restaurant needs a redo. Severely out dated. The system isn't great and the space doesn't allow for the large number of customers wanting to eat In or take away but adds to the feel that man their food is good so they can get away with it.
Ordered the quater chicken with salad and my sister ordered the quater chicken legs with chips. The chilli dip. OMG. A must. And the servings a generous for what you pay. All up $26 for 2 people. And parking is super easy too so no issues there.
I will always come back. Best Portuguese Chicken in Sydney.
Nice chicken, even better chilli sauce and mayonnaise. Enjoyed eating in with chips n Greek salad. Delicious and low key dining. Service was friendly too.
Excellent crisp Portuguese chicken cooked over coals and brushed with hot sauce. Many say, the best in Sydney. Everything else is an aside, but their chicken burgers are pretty good, as are the shoestring fries. Plenty of premium salads to choose from also.
Have been a fairly regular customer for the past two years. Never sat in, always take away. Has to be one of the best value food joints. Quality food and super cheap. The charcoal chicken, the croquets (especially the cod fish), the burger, every single thing hits the spot. And the chili mayo is a MUST with the burger or the chicken. The pork crackle is worth trying but nothing beats the chicken. Salads are decent as well to go with the meat feast.
Funny enough we've had three different people mention to us about three different stores and claiming their chicken burger is to die for. Ironically all three places were of the same company: Frango's.
As we stand in line waiting for a table on a Thursday night, the anticipation grew stronger. Look around the neighbourhood in Petersham.. it's pretty much Portugal. Every 2nd restaurant is selling chicken and only this one is booming with a line out the door.
We finally got a seat after 15 minutes.. with a near argument with the girls behind us trying to push in and just be seated without a booking. They eventually left half annoyed but who cares, good riddance to the impatient.
Yet again more waiting after you were seated for a menu. The problem isn't that the staff is rude.. it's that they are severely under staffed. I only saw 2 people serving tables and with that many customers they need to invest in some more hands.
The home made sliced potatoes looked fantastic on the table next to us so we ordered that. Only bits of it was crunchy and it basically was a salted, thinly sliced potato. Suppose the name didn't lie... just thought it'd be a bit more amazing.
Finally my infamous chicken burger arrived. First problem was I ordered a single fillet and got a double. Secondly... Where's my sauce? That in itself was a 15-20 minute. In the meantime we manage to pick away at 30% of the burger.
The chicken itself was surprisingly not that dry and tasted quite juicy. Bread was ordinary and the lettuce and tomato tasted fresh. The chilli and mayo is the savior of this meal. Once added it was a completely different burger. Unfortunately by then I was so hungry.. I devoured it without taking any photos. But here's a tip, make sure you order the chilli and mayo beforehand to save yourself the problem.
The burger is pretty darn good. The chilli sauce for me didn't have enough kick and was a bit mild for my liking. Overall a burger I'd definitely recommend if you're in the area.
Frango's chilli sauce and mayonnaise ($2 each) were also heavenly. The taste of the chilli sauce dolloped onto the chicken plus the mayo plus the chips just cannot be described in words. It is something you simply need to try yourself. My lips are salivating even just thinking about it.
When the charcoal chicken arrived, in the middle of our excitement and hunger, we were like piglets rushing for our food. While the charcoal chicken was a delight on the more tender areas like the wings, drumsticks and thighs, I wish the breast was a little bit more tender.

This meal didn't start out as a review, but as I purchase my favourite Portuguese Chicken Burger ($5.00) from this busy little shop in Petersham, I was reminded of why I drive past the chain stores like Nandos , Egalo and Oporto
So friendly, delicious. We dined in tonight and it was absolutely pumping both takeaway and sitting areas. Our waiter was so friendly and attentive even though he was rushed off his feet. Don't believe all the cranky people below, they are very friendly at Frangos. We had chicken, rice, sliced potatoes (like amazing disc chips!), fresh crispy Greek salad and chorizo. All great. I would have liked some garlic sauce but that's just me. Thanks Frangos!
Very good place. For my birthday, my husband took me to Frangos in Petersham. The staff were very welcoming and the food was really superb. For desert we oedered a piece of cake for each of us, and without asking for anything more, they came with a candle on the cake which really made my evening. I am really impressed with their service and quality of food and would recommend this place to anyone who loves having a good time... Yasmine
One of the great institutions in Sydney. Perfect food, service and atmosphere. Chicken is succulent and served straight off the coals - tastes delicious with the accompanying sauces. Also recommend the clams. Canât go wrong with Frangos!
Very good chicken. Nice atmosphere. Vegetarian options were a little bit underwhelming. Take care if you go for your Portuguese chicken craving and have a vegetarian friend with you...
I used to work in the area and would really look forward to getting some chicken from here. Nothing beats a nice juicy tender chicken leg with fries. And on a recent return, I got the chicken burger with the chilli mayo and it was equally amazing!
Smokey, fresh, succulent, flavoursome! and we couldn't stop even when we already full, just had to finish it! Off the charts! No wonder it's packed all the time! Highly recommended to try at least once, but then you will find out its never going to be only once!
Make sure you ask for salt on the chips. I've made that mistake twice and had to eat bland chips. Food is good as usual. Staff have gotten much more friendly ever since covid
Food is fantastic and a reasonable price. The staff are all very warm, friendly and attentive. There's a reason why it's always so busy!
We had a lovely night and plan to come again.
Came on a Friday night for eat in. Lovely seating upstairs with very attentive staff and a great relaxed atmosphere. Had the octopus which was beautifully cooked and the chicken which was fresh off the coals. I am a big fan of the take away menu but eating in is another step up!
The most amazing charcoal chicken in Sydney. The service was outstanding we were seated immediately and food order was taken and quickly served. I am definitely coming back again with a group of friends. After Covid these guys have really sprung back on their feet and have a really efficient process to take orders. Food is still consistent and never dissapoints.
