Review Fishes At The Point - Point Lookout

Amy
I ordered 4 menu It was a too long time to take foods. It was more than 20 minutes. And the staff was good when she got the order but another staff was not kind when she served the food. She just left the foods on the edge of the table and didn’t tell the food's name.

Loved the food we had on our first night on the island so much, that we came back for lunch the next day. Therefore had 4 different meals here...all delicious. Highly recommended. Friendly service from the lovely girl from Scarborough UK 🇬🇧. 😊

I had a half decent fish burger here. The service was real nice and quite quick. Come to think of it the fish burger wasn't that great. I would say it was a little bit too oily to be honest. I would also say that the chip was not a great chip. It was under salted and just basically not a great chip.

As for fish and chips, these guys have all the bases covered and the food is good (we ordered the family pack for 4 people at $100 - have a look at the pix). Generous serving of lemon wedges and tartar sauce and overall quality was positive. Seating location is not bad and you can also takeaway and enjoy your food with stunning clif-side view of the beach... Staff were friendly and I asked multiple times for a few extra things like sauces and plates to share food and responses were ok at peak businesses and there were no nonsense extra charges for ketchup or anything. Cutlery was wood so no plastic and things were MOSTLY served in paper/cardboard which was great. It would have been great if they had a recycling bin for all the paper (and the plastics) but they did have one for glass and cans.

Enjoyed two breakfasts here. The wait was fine — I suggest an early visitation, avoiding the crowd is a must. Poached eggs were perfectly done, as were the pancakes.

I can honestly not rate this place enough. The customer service I received today was phenomenal. (A very) long story short, I didn’t have cash on me to pay for my bus ticket. Kayley, the lovely hostess at fishies at the point was so amazing in trying to help me find somewhere I could get some cardless cash out. She went out back to try and get some suggestions from coworkers (Connor and Cayderyn) who, upon hearing about my situation, gave me money from their own pockets. I genuinely could not thank these lovely people more if I tried. I found out I was able to get cash out at the local food works and was able to return their money along with a $10 tip but their generosity was astounding and definitely needs to be commended. So thank you again to the amazing team!!! I will definitely suggest this place to anyone I know coming to the island.

Fishes at the Point A bustling cafe, with a seafood focus, kept busy with the tourist trade on Stradbrook Island. Service is friendly, and food is tasty, with generous portions, and reasonable value for money. It ain’t real fancy, but it’s super popular all day long. Lots of free chilled bottled water in the fridge inside. We had a couple of chicken thigh burgers, a salt and pepper squid, some of which was a like on the chewy side, and a barra burger. No complaints from anyone. The fries are crispy coated - thanks! And they are delicious!!

Located just across the road from great sea side views. Food was pricey but delicious I had mackerel and it was fantastic the salad could use some fine tuning though. Take away meals are a lot cheaper.

We grabbed takeaway fish and chips from here and it was all very good. Fish well cooked, chips were delicious and portions fairly good. It is expensive but it was quick, well cooked and very tasty. Yum.

I went to Fishes at the point to enjoy a great arvo with my mum and I had the worst experience in my life. The place was crowded, no tables available to sit so I've ordered take way to eat in front of the restaurant on the grass. OK perfect... While I was waiting for my meal 4 tables got free so I've sat on the table happy and smiling, suddenly one of the waitresses said that I couldn't seat there because I've ordered take away, so I've asked her to change my order to "dine in" once the place was already empty and plenty of tables free. Ok I thought was everything all right when the other waitress (she said that she is the owner ) came to me screaming "YOU CAN'T EAT HERE, DID YOU UNDERSTAND?" so I told her that I could pay more to seat there and I went to the till to pay the difference but she continued to scream and scream in front of every client so I got angry, we discuss, she was sarcastic and ironic with me, one client even asked me later on the bus stop If I was ok. Guys my mum is an elderly woman and I'm a 30yo engineer, I would never complain to pay more to seat in a table, I've ordered take away because when I've placed my order the restaurant was full of people. Why she didn't come to me politely and asked me to pay a little bit more instead of scream like an animal? I'm still in shock with this place, with these people and if she is the owner, the only thing that I can say is please you should have more peace and love in your heart and hospitality skills.

The seafood was strangely tasteless, the fish & chips not too bad. The meat dishes were overflavoured & drowned in cheap bbq but certainly generous. At night it's a bit depressing & grubby feeling, so probably better a place to take away than eat in.

Had take away on Saturday night not very good value for $60 chips were dry and over cooked hamburger was very salty and I don't usually mind a bit of salt. People cooking didn't wear gloves.

Oh my god! My worst experience ever! You can't bring your own. BYO in info is absolutely rubbish. Waitresses were so rude, absolutely rude. The food was terrible as well. Can't recommend it at all.
Peter Lee
Worst food I've ever had. Took one and a half hours to get a single burger, and they still gave me the wrong meat. Asked how long it will take to come for the second time (cooked the correct way) and the waitress in the rudest, most ignorant way stated "it does take time to cook you know" Would rather have eaten shit off the floor than this crap. Could probably catch some fish from the ocean and cook it up better on the bonnet of my car. Only time I'm coming back here is to tell the people sitting at the tables not the eat here.
Helen Christie
Terrible food...the worst fish and chips I've ever had. $10 for a portion of chips, it was way overpriced, tables were disgusting and poor service.
Marcel Du Plessis
I can't believe that I spent almost $70 on fish and chips and drinks plus extra calamari and then got literally one quarter of a plate of food. Does it actually cost this place that much more to actually fill the plate and give the costumers what they paid for...

Do not recommend could literally buy my own food for two full days for the same amount, do not attend this venue. They are money hungry bogans.
Marie
If the food was cheap I wouldn't feel the need to complain, but also wouldn't go back. Ribs and wings were OK. Fish was overcooked and average. Bugs were inedible and dry as though they'd been cut and then sitting in the fridge for a few days. For some reason they were served with crayfish/crab eating utensils?????

The food here was REALLY good. I ordered barramundi, chips and calamari. It was nice, but a little greasy, and the waiters took around 45 minutes to serve it. I would recommend this, but as an one-off.
Alice Houston
Love the food. Me and my family always make sure we go to ribs night when we holiday here. The burgers are delicious and chips crispy and crunchy
Jeremy Wolff
The employees were very rude and absolutely not trying to provide a good service at all. All free tables were covered in dirty dishes that none of the employees decided to clean up and food was very just average. when you are starting to get so many reviews that say the same about your business, maybe it is time to reconsider your customer service and professional values.

More of a cafe/fish and chip shop then a restaurant, but it is relaxed with really good service! Food is basic but good or be it over priced (but this is the norm at point lookout). Definitely one of the better places to eat at point lookout!
Holly Ryan
What a dud. The grilled fish was horrible, the chips were soggy and everything is completely overpriced. I would never return to Fishes at The Point.
Charles Murdoch
Probably the worst Fish n Chips I've ever had and came to the grand total of $100.
Davidcaralyn
Worst Fish n Chips ever!. Worst fish and chips weve ever had. Phone staff failed to advise that they dont serve cod and thinking we were eating cod later found to be barramundi. Potato scallops with a slither of potato and soggy. Extremely expensive. And a Manager who didnt seem to care about our feedback.

Friendly service, flexible and accommodating with our custom order (12 nuggets and a portion of chips for $10). Nice work Fishes on the Point.

Poor performance. We have been holidaying on Stradbroke for many years and until now we have always had a pleasurable experience. Last night we went to this cafe for dinner and the food came cold and both under and over cooked. The service was very poor. We put this down to the fact that they were very busy and probably just a bad day.

Today we returned to get fish n chips and the gentleman behind the counter was just utterly rude and treated us as though we were an inconvenience. We Willmot be returning a third time.

As a vegatarian on an island I was pretty excited to see vego lasagne, vego burger and vego nachos on the menu! I got the nachos and they were really really good! My boyfriend also enjoyed the seafood. It's set up like a takeaway, but the menu is better than your standard fish and chip shop and the staff were lovely too!

Fish is the point, and it wasn't good. We called in here for lunch after a walk around the beautiful gorge, looking at whales and dolphins in the distance. We had a cold Coopers Pale Ale off the tap which was delicious while we waited for our order which was the family pack for take-away - Snapper in breadcrumbs, twisters, scallops, calamari and chips. We took it back to our accommodation. All the seafood was over-cooked, the breadcrumbs were dark brown, almost burnt. The over-cooking was confirmed with the first bite. There was an undertaste typical of old oil. Great location, but not recommended.

Are you serious.... One of the kid went on a day trip with high school they stopped off here, for lunch. 10 chicken nuggets at $2 per nugget and chips nearly $25!!!! Defo seen the kids coming. Day light robbery....

Expensive and very disappointing. Went to this cafe for breakfast a few days ago and it cost for 2 adults and 2 children $84. I had the eggs Benedict and to say it was disgusting would be an understatement. The hollandaise sauce was melted butter, by far the worst breakfast I have ever had. Coffees were ok but expensive. Overall very disappointing won't be going there again!

Basic fish ans chips - at a pretentious premium.

As regular visitors to Straddie we are well aware that you're never going to be in food heaven on the Island but if you want the worst service and most overpriced meals go here! Don't bother asking for anything remotely custom (like the burger without the onion) because you'll end up with whatever they want.

If you want great Fish and Chips, go to the Straddie Roadhouse.... The meals are better and you'll get what you ask for at half the price.

Overpriced Rubbish. WAY too expensive for the quality of the food - service was pretty dismal. Left very unsatisfied. Great location is all they have going for them.

RIP OFF & bad service. I was utterly disgusted & disappointed when we ate at Fishes Seafood Cafe on the weekend (13/05/12). we ordered a fruit salad for breakfast for our infant son. Being the fruit salad was $13, we expected to have an array of in season fruits (like apples, pears, banana, watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew melon, oranges, pineapple, grapes), what we got was brown pineapple, bruised red apples, bruised green apples, honeydew melon & orange. The natural yoghurt that was on top tasted not quite right & was a little lumpy (I know that yoghurt can do this when not stirred properly before serving, but it did taste funny as well). When we took the fruit salad back as it definitely was not even worth $5 let alone $13. We were initially told we would get a refund, but when we went back to get it, we were told that there was nothing wrong with the fruit salad & that the fruit was cut up fresh (ha, it may have been cut up fresh, but the fruit itself certainly wasnt!!!).

Dont waste your time & money going to this place!!!
Cathy
If you want Raw food and Rudest service in the world, go to Fishes. If you want your holiday ruined, go to fishes. Loads of great restaurant around fishes but don't go there. Have all of us raw fish and then said 'since you ate it no refund'. No apologies. We did not even ask for a refund and they rolled their eyes at us. Would not go there even if I'm paid a million dollars

Food okay Shop dirty looking. Staff young didn't look clean. Shop is dirty l don't think they have cleaned concrete outside since they opened. Tables not clean sauce bottles on table were dirty.Floor inside shop could do with a good mop and polish. Food was plenty salad fresh husband had grilled snapper l had calamari. Too heavy handed on the dressing but otherwise okay.Staff standing at front counter texting on Mobils not a good look. Advice clean it up take pride employee staff who earn their wage.
Lauren
Terrible! My husband ordered us a "Fisherman's Basket" each, and the only thing I could eat from it was about two calamari rings each and some of the chips. We had the battered Snapper, and it smelled so bad we couldn't even eat it! The scallops were all different colours and didn't look appetising at all. The chips were one of the only things were stomach, but even then they had so much salt on them we couldn't eat more than a few. Please save yourself from food-poisoning and DO NOT EAT HERE! You have been warned...
Reyne
Go elsewhere! Maybe we just caught then at a bad time during low season. Food was cooked and served by teenages who preceded to smoke outside the shop front during our meal. Fish appeared to be under cooked by staff who didn't know what they were doing or had no care for our health? Not happy.
Jakajutin
Appalling. We had fish that had an ammonia flavour which is brought to the attention of the manager who flat out refuses to provide a refund because 'we left the comment too long'. Do not eat here because, as usual Queensland tourism workers do not cater for tourists. No wonder the tourism industry is flailing.

Hit and miss had a great bacon egg hash brown and coffee for breakfast $10 no bargain but it was tasty went back for dinner had a $14 works burger and chips and gravy chips plenty of them but pretty average old oil taste gravy was out of the can terrible but the burger was without question the worst we have ever had a dried up meat patty and I mean dry about half the size of the average breadroll it was on with 1 strip of bacon an egg a slice of beetroot tomato and lettuce and BBQ sauce even though we requested tomato sauce. I had 2 bites my wife ate cheese and crackers dreadfull and $14 ??????
Justin
Hearty food. AND they take phone takeaway orders on Friday night while you are still on the ferry.

Fish, Chips and Salad. The Barramundi was grilled to perfection with a nice bit of golden-brown all over the fillet, laying on top of a bed of freshly fried chips (I like them with the tartare sauce, always), and side salad which was absolutely refreshing.

Seeing the huge mugs of mocha other patrons were having with the slight chill in the air had both a friend and I aching for some ourselves. And they heaped the chocolate in the creamy milk – absolutely perfect for hugging in one’s hands.
